What We Learned From Season Eight of “American Idol”

5/22/09, 11:34 am EST

Photo: Micelotta/FOX
American Idol producers heralded Season Eight as a time of change: there would be a new judge in Kara DioGuardi, a new arbitrary rule with the Judges’ Save, a new set featuring a giant white staircase for gallant entrances and a newly articulate Paula Abdul. But the season’s biggest surprise was breakout star Adam Lambert, who despite losing the competition to Kris Allen, made a name for himself as a glam-rock sex god ready for prime-time. And after five months of slavish devotion to Idol in our weekly recaps, we’ve acquired a few new kernels of wisdom:

Three judges are enough, thank you
Kara DioGuardi ended up contributing little to the show other than an awful coronation song, a trumped-up beef with a girl in a bikini and poor math skills. Plus, all the extra chatter pushed the show overtime, causing viewers to lose performances like Lambert’s “Mad World.”

Paula Abdul is just here for the music!

Quentin Tarantino needs to guest on the show more/can never guest on the show again (split decision)
It wasn’t Tarantino’s first time at the Idol rodeo, and hopefully it won’t be his last: Quentin poked and prodded the singers with extreme enthusiasm and chin thrusts as Movie Week mentor. Bryan Adams’ “Everything I Do, I Do It For You” will never be the same for us after hearing Quentin “rough it up.”

Big-name guests don’t guarantee ratings
Despite the appearance of everyone from Kiss to Steve Martin and two acts named Queen (the band and the Latifah), the show’s finale pulled in its lowest ratings in its key 18-49 demographic Wednesday night. What would have pulled you people in — the cast of Jon & Kate Plus 8? Robert Pattinson?

Covering Michael Jackson is hard
So kudos to Fall Out Boy, whose “Beat It” doesn’t suck. MJ Week was one of the season’s most brutal, as Anoop Desai murdered the tune (not in the good way) and everyone but Lambert and Allison Iraheta flailed.

No TV show is above parading around a girl in a bikini
We never thought we’d see the day our Rock of Love recaps found common ground with American Idol.

Danny Gokey killed a cat …
But felines got revenge when Gokey’s “Dream On” met Keyboard Cat.

Somebody on staff at Idol likes indie pop
We’re not complaining! Those dreadful Ford ads are far more palatable when the finalists are singing Apples in Stereo and Lykke Li.

The finale is a painful reminder of how bad the Top 12 is
Or in this case, the Top 13. While Allen, Iraheta and Lambert looked at home alongside Keith Urban, Cyndi Lauper and Kiss, the rest of the finalists struggled. And this happens every year.

The contestant who tries to change her name mid-show cycle isn’t always a winner
We’re not sure when Megan Corkrey became Megan Joy. Or when she became a bluejay. But Megan Joy Corkrey had the season’s most memorable exit, “caw! caw!”ing her way to the door.

We also learned that when an artist clearly defines the type of music he/she will produce (and the teen and pre-teen female audience like it) they are favored over those who dont. Adam is terrific but we dont know what kind of music he will offer.

nica | 5/22/2009, 12:23 pm EST

Wait, you left out the main lesson:
America can not find enough courage and wisdom to elect the true singing talent – it opts for mediocrity.
So, no more AI for me and many others = ratings will continue falling into burning ring of fire until nothing left…

clvpoprocks | 5/22/2009, 12:34 pm EST

The main people in shock and complaining about the outcome are probably the same ones that didn’t bother to vote. There are so many people coming out to show their support for Adam. Media as well as Hollywood, all over, everyone seems to be upset about this outcome. Yet I hear no one talking about Kris really being the winner, just disbelief. I actually feel sorry for Kris. Even Jay Leno started out his interview asking Kris about the “big upset”. I know I voted, and I was disgusted when I saw the outcome. I don’t even feel like watching another season, because after all, who could ever be better than Adam?

Lissa | 5/22/2009, 12:36 pm EST

Predictability = boring. It isn’t what I look for in an artist – I want the surprises – show me what else you got. Hooray for Adam Lambert – the best the show has ever given us. Which means I no longer have to torture myself watching it – i’m done after this years debacle.
And YES – Robert Pattinson would definitely have helped

FLYGIRL | 5/22/2009, 12:40 pm EST

i was walking past tv when i heard ADAM sing satisfaction it was like being hid by a ten tonne truck he blew me away if America cant stand the the heat bring him over to Europe and the rest of the world where taste reigns and keep bland, allen all to yourselves ADAM rocks with his balls of steel ps i wont be watching AI EVEEEEEEEEERRRRRR

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 12:41 pm EST

Perhaps ratings are down because its the 8th year.

Did Police Academy 8 make as much money as Police Academy 2? I think not.

Also, TV ratings, as a whole, are down all across the board. Not just Idol.

I don’t think Idol can do ANYTHING to get back to the insane mega-viewership numbers of seasons 1 thru 3. But it’s still the highest rated show there is.

And despite the questionable finale outcome, I do think there was a big rise in quality of the show this year, compared to the last 2 or 3 seasons.

jim | 5/22/2009, 12:42 pm EST

The show was great. Maybe Adam didn’t “win”, but I sure can’t say he lost. At that heighth of accomplishment, there are NO losers.

Bman | 5/22/2009, 12:44 pm EST

We learned Kara can rock a bikini too!

aneela | 5/22/2009, 12:46 pm EST

trink – i think part of adam’s appeal to his fans is that he is so versatile, handling every genre effortlessly and believably (yes, even country week!)

i wonder how many of the ‘this is the last time i’m watching’ viewers will actually not bother to tune in next year.. i know ratings have been falling steadily. and after adam’s loss, i really think a large group of people won’t bother in the future. idol proved this year it isn’t about talent, vocal ability or showmanship – instead, america went for the nice voice and mild manner of allen. no disrespect to him but i think the majority of the country believes the wrong decision was made.

here’s hoping adam collaborates with some fantastic producers and puts out an amazing album. record sales and concert tickets will give us a clear indication of who season 8’s biggest success story is going to be…

geezlouise | 5/22/2009, 12:50 pm EST

I agree with your lessons learned, particularly the rock gem found in Adam Lambert. My fear is that from now on Idol will always try to include an Adam wannabe in the mix, and it will never quite compare. Adam was one in a million. I still marvel that Idol had the temerity to pluck him from the obscurity of an extra in a Broadway show to this. He was the only reason I watched this year. I doubt I will have need to watch again.

kay | 5/22/2009, 12:57 pm EST

unfortunately when we leave it to people’s choice, anything can happen…

Rockyroad | 5/22/2009, 1:00 pm EST

For the first time ever American Idol actually produced an International Idol. Never have they had a more interesting and talented contestant than Adam and I doubt they ever will. It’s just too bad Adam didn’t come from a state like Arkansas where the entire state throws voting parties. But he’s better off in the long run. I can’t wait to see what he does next. I can’t even imagine how exciting an Adam Lambert concert would be especially when he gets out from under the control of E19.

Jen | 5/22/2009, 1:02 pm EST

Honestly, I love Adam. But when I heard that awful winner’s song…I couldn’t cast a vote that would put that mess on the radio with him singing it. Let Kris have it! Adam will have much better music to sing.

Sentient Content | 5/22/2009, 1:05 pm EST

I have never watched a full season of American Idol, in fact, I only watched on week before Season 8 –Last year’s finale.
That said- Lambert should have taken this year’s title. It’s understandable that a lot of middle America is terrified of the guy. He does not just have range, he’s got a clear picture of who he is and the message that he was TRYING to put out there, versus what actually was.
The bottom line is this- Adam Lambert’s sentiment seems genuine. He lauds Kris Allen’s talent and calls him an artist. The two appear to be friends and very respectful of one another. True Adam fans, I consider myself one in fact, should be glad that the “Glam-God” got to shine. He now has a platform to jump from and we will be able to buy his work.
We should follow his lead and accept whatever this outcome is as a win for him, even without the title, with class and respect. That being said, unless they can magically pull another Adam of the hat, and fix their voting system, one season of American Idol is all I think I need.

Colleen Zulian | 5/22/2009, 1:05 pm EST

I don’t normally respond to these blogs I just read and take in the publics response. But I think everybody is not looking at the big picture here. i think this has been the one idol that has given the show more credability than any other. I was sad to see Allison go… What a talent for 16 years of age, imagine if she was back in the 80’s when a&r still existed, and she was developed and found the right original songs. wow what a star you would have.
I love Adam, he is a star and he will reinvent himself again and again if he has the guts and stamina to do so (as we have seen in the likes of Madonna and the rolling stones etc) but that is still to be seen, we know he has the ability but a 5 month show is very different to touring and pr over several years. Kris on the other hand is quality also but a different type. He unlike Adam has the ability to capture not just pop audiences but also rock audiences but also contemporary country audiences and so and so on.
And again may I say I loved Adam and I enjoyed and was excited by each performance, I also loved Kris’s performances and Kris to me is more solid that Adam. Kris if he stays as he is consistant and humble will have longevity, where Adam if he pushes it too far will have a short success. The other point I would like to share is Kris could nail any original quite easily where Adam needs a certain type of song to suit.

My thoughts and personal opinion.

I wish them both success as they both fully deserve it and they are both naturally talented.

Hawaiigecko | 5/22/2009, 1:05 pm EST

Adam has broken the mold on American Idol. He is the best talent that has ever graced their stage. I won’t be tuning in next year to see America get it wrong again. I will be too busy following the amazing career of Adam Lambert.

chakeetah | 5/22/2009, 1:11 pm EST

Don’t know what kind of music Adam will offer? If after this entire season you have not figured out that Adam will rock-a-fye any song successfully, well, you don’t know your music. Even ballads and country were theatrically rock-inspired. He’s a Rocker with theatrics. That’s what is needed to keep one from falling asleep during a performance. That’s Adam – he wakes up your senses!

TLCgirl | 5/22/2009, 1:11 pm EST

I also have no reason to watch AI any more! This was the first year that I had any reason to stay interested. We bought tickets to see “American Idols Live” before the finale and when they announced the winner, I regretted the purchace. We’ll still go though, only to see Adam Lambert! I think ticket sales will be down because of the end results this season. But you never know! I just hope Adam can get some music out soon. I’m 40 years old and think he really is an amazing person! My family had fun watching his performance each week! I just can’t wait to see what happens to him next! He is my American Idol!

RNKRIS | 5/22/2009, 1:14 pm EST

HEY! What about congratulating Kris for his hard work. HE WON. He was never in the bottom 2 like Adam was. Yes, Adam was excellent every time he got up and sang but it makes me think… maybe America isn’t ready for the screaming, black finger nail polish and gothic look that was Adam. He was true to himself and America voted. They need to limit the voting to 1 call per number. It is horrible that they let people vote over and over again.

myers | 5/22/2009, 1:19 pm EST

Who cares if Kris was never in the bottom 2. Taylor Hicks was never in the bottom 3! Kris meet Taylor!

Brazilian Nut | 5/22/2009, 1:22 pm EST

The song No Boundaries is horrible. That has to be the worst one yet. The most corny lyrics ever. Every cliche was used in the song. Adam’s performances were amazing. It was like watching the Adam Lambert Show week after week. I am going to miss my weekly dose of Adam Lambert. Is there a rehab for this type of thing?

tj | 5/22/2009, 1:23 pm EST

I am done with AI too, after Adam there is just no need to, he is simply the best AI ever found and he already has the world at his feet, America has proven again how mediocre they are…. they like the same thing every year and that is what is killing AI-it has become predictable and boring I will be too busy following Adams career and supporting him all the way to sit in front of the TV for this show.

Mira | 5/22/2009, 1:31 pm EST

Adam is a SEX God – love it! He totally is, the sexiest guy I’ve ever seen, and especially seen on American Idol. Hotness! Hopefully he doesn’t tone down from now on, hopefully he stays true to himself. Rock on baby!

Jill | 5/22/2009, 1:34 pm EST

I have been the biggest fan of Idol since Season 1. You can count on me to never watch the show again. The only reason Adam didn’t win is the rampant homophobia in this country. The state of Arkansas made 38 million out of the 100 million votes. AT&T was handing out phones in AR and telling people how to send multiple texts. There is no way possible that the “glam-rock sex god ready for prime-time” did not get more votes.

freida | 5/22/2009, 1:35 pm EST

Adam Lambert is a fabulous singer, entertainer and most of all, a wonderful person!!

Alg | 5/22/2009, 1:40 pm EST

It seems to me that American Idol has hit the wall. This was the worst season…talent weaker? Keep three judges, please!

Plrr | 5/22/2009, 1:41 pm EST

Will everyone please stop putting Kris down!!! Over the season he gave some amazing performances. He is a wonderful MUSICIAN with his own spin on vocals. And yes – there are the Freddy Mercurys – stellar.. But there are also the James Taylors, the Jackson Brownes – iconic – brilliance mixed with quiet dignity. SO STOP SAYING THAT KRIS DIDN”T DESERVE TO WIN OVER ADAM! Apples and oranges – and I guess America chose apples or even thought that they wanted to listen to a CD they could enjoy – You can’t see theatrics on a CD!! or even what people look like — So yes, Adam will have a career, but Kris the musician will too.

jPizzle | 5/22/2009, 1:47 pm EST

Aneela, if “the majority of the country believes the wrong decision was made” as you stated, then why did the majority of the country vote for Kris?

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 1:49 pm EST

I didn’t watch the finale because I live on the West Coast, and couldn’t bring myself to turn on the television when I found out early that Lambert had lost to Allen. Many people I know out here also did the same. I’ve been watching performance clips since yesterday, online.

Bim | 5/22/2009, 1:53 pm EST

Two things I learned–It is probably better to finish second and retain some artistic freedom; and middle America is more loyal to the show and voting–hence Kris’ victory. Fair enough but it made for a disappointing ending. And the song they choose every year for the winner to sing is horrid, embarrassing, and detracts from the build up of the finale. You could tell Simon thought it sucked. Why do they have one of the co writers as a judge? It doesn’t make her look good in anyway. In the end the show advocates mediocrity. From now on I am watching A.L., not A.I.

aboomer | 5/22/2009, 1:53 pm EST

Adam was brilliant performer and is brilliant with his blended persona. Have you read the blogs and noted the ages of many of the bloggers? He’s tapping into the HUGH baby boomer and lesser but equally successful punk-rocker markets. Both have been waiting for a new star to emerge. The new so-called rockers of the generation x-y-zzzzers are largely 1-hit-wonders and fade out. Yet the “old” rockers are still racking in the bucks. Doesn’t take a wall street financial analyzer to figure out who’s going to be more financially successful from this Idol competition.

boris | 5/22/2009, 1:59 pm EST

wow – I’ve never been happier that America got it right.
The big difference is nobody hated Chris Allen. Adam will be wonderful in KATZ or DREAMGIRLS but never amount to much of anything in the music industry. His screaming was more obnoxious than Axle Rose.

salvatora | 5/22/2009, 2:01 pm EST

is not about putting kris down, but adam is just out of this world!!!! i have never in my short life, devoted time to watch american idol at all, and just when i thought music was always gonna be so awful and i will always be plugged to my pm3 listening to really nourishing stuff…came adam lambert, with a vocal range so sick, that it made me wanna listen to him more and more….as i said before, you can ask kris to do a high note like adam and he will just fail but if you ask adam to learn how to play the guitar and the piano he will.
i don’t get fans from the states, here in latin america we have a vast variety of genres, artists and very very talented but because they are not that commercial they are not well known in the states, also the piratery plays such a factor in latin american artists success but anyways
if you listen to RATA BLANCA or MAGO DE OZ you will know, we, latin americans are so fucking prepared for adam lambert

Scarlett | 5/22/2009, 2:02 pm EST

We learned of an amazing rising star..Adam Lambert and also learned that the show is stupid. Never watch it again.

artist | 5/22/2009, 2:04 pm EST

I’m a rocking grandma. And I’m in love with Adam!!!! I’m going about my business still stunned that his incredible talent was not given the recognition it deserved. Adam please get recording so I can buy every CD you make and support your career as it explodes into the galaxy.

salvatora | 5/22/2009, 2:05 pm EST

jpizzle get you “facts” right…..everybody knows how the voting system goes….i person can vote 1000 times so please have some knowledge for the sake of kris allen……by the way, adam has the experts aproval so he doesn’t need the title

tw123 | 5/22/2009, 2:05 pm EST

Throughout the season, the judges screamed about song choices and song choices. Guess what, No boundaries is the worst song choice ever made on the show. It is horrible beyond imagination. What were producers and judges thinking? The wining song is supposed to be a hit? My god, with that song and Kris’ singing, you told me that was a talent search show?!

oaek | 5/22/2009, 2:06 pm EST

jPizzle, you are very wrong, it’s the minority with the best technology and time (perhaps they don’t have to go to school or work the next day so they can vote forever) who made Kris #1. Where do you get the idea of the “majority of the country” voted for Kris? Did you count their ip?

jan | 5/22/2009, 2:07 pm EST

I expected the outcome and was still disappointed. I never fail to still be disappointed when voters show no objectivity. I think I learned in grade school that misunderstanding or not following the instructions meant failure. That equates to the failure of AI and the failure of the American audience. Votes were supposed to be cast for the Most Talented, the Best Musician etc, etc. I quit Idol a long time ago for that very reason. Friends, family, co-workers said “You’ve got see Adam” I did and I’m glad of that. Kudos to AI for that. There are 3 generations of Adam fans in my family. We are all looking forward to his future as an International Sensation and of course his cd’s and all of his inspiring artistry.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 2:12 pm EST

America needs to wake up already and vote for the most talented singer, or the judges should pick the final three and winner.

vala | 5/22/2009, 2:12 pm EST

I hope Adam bring back some good old queen, foreigner etc rock!

oaek | 5/22/2009, 2:14 pm EST

I wouldn’t say No Boundaries is a bad song, but I would say it’s a difficult song. If you can’t sing, then this song would be boring as hell like the Kris version – sounds very flat. Adam can carry this song very well, especially the last “there’re no boundaries” with a little echo in the end and then he rounded the song up with a final calm.

Tracey | 5/22/2009, 2:15 pm EST

I watched American Idol from my home in South Africa. Quite boring, not as boring as S.A Idols which sucked again this year, but Adam was wonderful. He can sing any genre, Kris can’t, and he was fresh and exciting. He would have won in S.A.

Lou | 5/22/2009, 2:15 pm EST

ADAM LAMBERT IS A GENIUS! He is truly the best entertainer that has landed on this earth since our icon Elvis Presley.

What I would like to know is when did Kris become the favorite?!! As the entire show progressed he was always in the bottom 3 . . . next thing you know you pick him as your winner . . come on like really America . . get some lessons on what a singing competition really is will ya.

America you got it wrong .. .AGAIN!

Oh that’s right too . . . you didn’t want Elvis to be on tv and when you did you would only allow him to be viewed from the waist up and oh yeah . . it was also America that started to smash up the Beatle’s records too. Well that says it all . . .America can’t entertain talent.

America it will be a miracle if you ever get talent like that to light up your American Idol stage again. What a mistake you have made. You are supposed to be looking for the person that can sing the best and clearly it is ADAM LAMBERT – TO DATE! AND I MEAN INCLUDING ANY OTHER AMERICAN IDOL SHOW and for that matter someone like Adam hasn’t been in the spotlight for the world to be entertained.

I wish that Canada and the resto of the world could vote. . . and from what I have been hearing, reading, seeing is that the rest of the world got it right . . Adam is the winner for us.

To Adam: We are waiting to see you again. Look forward to all that you do with your future ahead of you. You are truly the best artist that has come our way in years. Thank you for that and for being so polite and kind to all you meet. You are truly a gentleman and I have to commend you for that. You are the sweetest entertainer ever. We love you in Canada.

chipitasgirl | 5/22/2009, 2:17 pm EST

Idol made an absolute fool of itself this year. From the tasteless bikini girl to the banter among the judges. Adam Lambert was the only saving grace this show had …. and next year they WILL see a drop in viewers. When you look at the hits on the internet, the interest shown and the responses to Adam Lambert, he won that show many weeks ago. Digital dialing blocks and the rest be damned. This newest headline today from Clay Aiken is just another reason Adam will be so big……Clay needs to coverage so the best way to do it is to slam a big star….Shame on Clay…,.,he is a has been and we all now know why he lost to Ruben…..he might be able to carry a tune but he’s not too smart….in fact, his comments about Adam show how really stupid he is….Well, maybe if he’s a good boy, someday he may be able to open for Adam at a concert…..but then again, maybe not.

bd | 5/22/2009, 2:18 pm EST

I am so very sick of hearing that Adam lost due to his sexual orientation. all is did was scream and Kris is awesome

Anne | 5/22/2009, 2:20 pm EST

Adam is a nice guy..really talented, a true artist and would have gotten my votes….until I realized he was nothing but a predicable screamer. Thank goodness for mute buttons.

PatF | 5/22/2009, 2:21 pm EST

hi – I watched in UK, am what you Americans call a baby boomer and think Adam Lambert is the most outstanding talent ever on either UK or the US version of the show. I told my husband weeks ago that Adam would not win because of the homophobia which exists in your country. Our very first pop idol was won by a gay contestant years ago and he is still going strong. I think Adam will do better in the long run, especially if he does not have to wait at least a year before an album is made as is usual with these winners. As someone who saw Led Zepellin live in the 70s, he could defintely front a band like that.

T | 5/22/2009, 2:21 pm EST

7th time in 8 years the show’s winner was a Southerner

chipitasgirl | 5/22/2009, 2:22 pm EST

Oh, I forgot…..If you go to the Adam Lambert official website….brand new. He sings “No Boundaries”……he does a GREAT job with it…..it may even sell him a million copies….which I am sure will never happen with the Kris version. Be sure to go to the webside…..it’s AWESOME. adamofficial.com

ENJOY!!!!

Cary | 5/22/2009, 2:24 pm EST

When a state with a population of 2.8 million votes 38 million times, the results do not have any merit. While the very likeable Allen has a pleasant style and voice, the world–and Allen himself based on his comments after being named the winner–knows Lambert is a rare, refined talent far surpassing the others on the show. I find solace in the belief we will hear much from Adam in the near future and the AI vehicle will never crown someone like him (I strongly doubt Steven Tyler, Freddie Mercury, or any other other-worldy, edgy talent would win the title either.)

oaek | 5/22/2009, 2:25 pm EST

Yes Shame on Clay Aiken, I hate his ugly face

Texas tip | 5/22/2009, 2:25 pm EST

My husband and I are in our 60s and we couldn’t wait to hear Adam sing every week. We both thought Kris was a good looking person and dedicated to his singing but nothing to be excited about. We come from an era of Elvis and Adam so compares to his carisma to the crowds. Good luck Adam!

Wes | 5/22/2009, 2:30 pm EST

The word ‘IDOL’ is someone that America can look up to. I personally agree with the vote. I don’t want my grand children looking up to a guy (Adam) who has black painted finger nails, fake eyelashes and dresses like an outcast. If the show would have been named ‘American Weirdo’ then maybe he would have won. Remember, people vote for the contestants that the like. I would have to agree that talent wise they were equal and possibly Adam might have came out on top in the vocal range category but why would he throw it away just to please a few acid rockers in the US. Look back at the former winners and see how many were wierdo’s??? None that I can remember.

Wilna1877 | 5/22/2009, 2:34 pm EST

OK – I wanted Adam to win AI8! But ‘yuck’ this would have burdoned him with that awfull song by Kara as his first single!!! Thank G*d he now remains a free spirit and will carry on doing what he is excellent at…BEING A ROCK GOD!

I feel quite sorry for Kris. ONLY 23 and already married a woman who are kept in the background. All interviews about him has been with parents. Do we know the wife’s name? Is she just the little woman who cooks, cleans and obeys her man?

Why dont the Rock & roll daily interview Mrs. Allen??????
I mean, seriously, will this marraige last?

Susan2 | 5/22/2009, 2:35 pm EST

I am disappointed in all the complaints from the teeny-boopers that their sacred goth idol did not win. He was NOT the best singer — accept that. But also acknowledge that he did VERY well and will go on to have a great future! History shows us that with the exception of Season 1 — the 2nd place finishers have ALL gone on to be more successful than the winner. Now let’s applaud Kris and acknowledge his excellence, his versatility and the victory HE desires to glory in instead of all this bantering and whining about who won. Congraultions, Kris! You’re a WINNER and you deserve it!

Maurine | 5/22/2009, 2:36 pm EST

I enjoyed this year’s Finale, but like every year, I feel a sense of sadness that the season is over. So many remarkable, motivated, young people on American Idol are truly inspiring to me personally. The top 4 contestants are truly amazing. I love them all.

I believe AI to be a family show. Why does it tease with sex jokes between the judges and parade bikini clad contestants and judges
in front of children?

FOX folks…Please take this constructive criticism to heart.

Wilna1877 | 5/22/2009, 2:39 pm EST

To clvpoprocks:

I dont think many Adam fans will bother watching AI seaon 9. Rumours are that Simon Cowell is leaving too.

QueenChiro | 5/22/2009, 2:41 pm EST

I love how everyone professes to hate no boundaries, yet it’s the #1 itune download. Apparently someone out there likes it (and for the record I don’t like it, I’m just wondering who does).

Lindsey | 5/22/2009, 2:42 pm EST

The population of Arkansas is only 2.8 million. Many of them are children to young to vote or don’t care anything about AI. I don’t see how it is possible to have 38 million votes come from such a small state.

babartz | 5/22/2009, 2:45 pm EST

ROCK ON ADAM! CANT WAIT FOR YOUR ALBUMS!

Lara | 5/22/2009, 2:45 pm EST

I lost faith in the show when friggin taylor hicks won! That was a joke! The shows not about the best singer, its about the most marketable. kris is safe, jordin sparks is safe, david cook is safe etc. safe sells. And thats a shame. The all mighty dollar has won.

andimfeelinbad | 5/22/2009, 2:47 pm EST

Thanks AI for the gift of Adam Lambert.
Now go fix the obvious problems with your show.

Cary | 5/22/2009, 2:51 pm EST

Susan, Lambert could have sung any song the other contestants did. They, however, could not have attempted “Whole Lot of Love” without being a mockery. Lamberts range and versatility sets him apart and he was the most remarkable vocalist. The end result of the voting doesn’t matter, but if this were a true vocal competition, judged by professionals, it would have been no contest.

Merle | 5/22/2009, 2:57 pm EST

I voted as long as I could Tuesday night for Adam and then I read DialIdol and figured he would lose. I wasn’t going to watch the results show because I didn’t want to see Adam’s face if he lost, but I couldn’t resist because I heard he would be singing with KISS. I was so excited watching him perform, first singing BETH with that beautiful heartache in his voice, and then joining the band. What a knock out performance. And if that wasn’t enough to send me to the moon, he ends up singing “We Are The Champions” with QUEEN and Kris. What a night! I am so glad I watched and taped it, too. Bets performances ever on American Idol. Best contestant ever, Adam Lambert. I’m from NY in my 60’s and totally agree with TEXAS TIPS.
I wish Kris the best of luck. He seems like a great guy and Adam surely supported him. Adam is a great great singer/performer and a class act!

sandib | 5/22/2009, 2:59 pm EST

AI die hard fan here! This season was in my opinion the best. To watch the different talent on the show was so much fun. I have always picked one artist and stuck with them in past seasons. This year I went from liking Gokey, to loving Alison. I think Adam is very talented, just not my thing. I would love to see him in a broadway musical. On the other hand, I am very impressed with Kris as I believe he really did not expect to win. Truly an underdog that made his way to the top. He is so sincerely humble and it is endearing. And so musically talented. People need to understand that everyone is different. And be happy for all the success brought from AI. I do agree that maybe the voting probably needs to be rethought.
Congrats to all the winners!

Merle | 5/22/2009, 2:59 pm EST

I forgot to say what I learned.
I won’t American Idol next year.

MsWrite | 5/22/2009, 3:14 pm EST

First of all, I adore Kris and am happy for him, but I believe down to the core of my soul that Adam deserved this as no one in the history of the show ever did.

For him not to win after everything he gave this season (and carrying the show on his back I might add) is a travesty that he’ll be introduced as “Runner up” to anyone. But, I also know down to the core of my soul that he will be an international sensation and I plan to follow every second of his meteoric climb.

Now about the alleged Arkansas vote stats; I don’t know if they’re true or not, but it is conceivable. If they were extremely organized and mobilized. There were many “get out the vote” strategies floating around the Internet. First thing, it’s all about texting. Forget attempting to dial in.

Many fans were encouraged to get an AT&T Go Phone for $20 with an unlimited texting plan. (Of course, it HAD to be AT&T, which is also why they will likely never rewrite the rules because Fox and AT&T are making ass-loads of money on this. They really should cut a $1 million check to both Adam and Kris for the leap in profits they’ve just experienced.

Anyway, on the Go Phone you can send 10 texts simultaneously to the same number. It would be like having 10 different contacts, all with the same number. I have an iPhone and you cannot do blanket texts with iPhones so I could only text one at a time. Even though, I still easily texted more than a 1,000 times for Adam on the Final 3 show (I didn’t count the Finals, but it was much more). So say you’re averaging 500 texts per hour and you voted the whole two hours, that would be 2000. Now multiply that by 10! That’s 20,000 votes from one person, going at a moderate pace.

If Arkansas was REALLY organized, they truly could have done what the rumors said they did. Sad, but true.

Nataliya | 5/22/2009, 3:16 pm EST

I can’t wait for Adam’s album to come out, simply can’t. Hurry up Adam…

MsWrite | 5/22/2009, 3:18 pm EST

Oops, I meant four hours …

suzy-q | 5/22/2009, 3:18 pm EST

So many of you are such big babies! You didn’t get your way, so you’re going to stop watching! Give me a break. The reason Kris won is because he got Gokey’s votes, not because Adam is maybe gay. Adam is very talented and I thought he would win, but his screaming did get a little annoying toward the end, just as Kara’s movements with her head got annoying. However, I thought that the finale was a great show with Black Eyed Peas, S. Martin, Queeen etc. It was VERY entertaining! I think most of the world would rather listen to Kris type music than hard rock. Especially young girls, who are probably the biggest voters. Plus the young girls aren’t Adam’s type.

PH#1 | 5/22/2009, 3:23 pm EST

This is the first year I have watched AI from the beginning. Adam was always on a different level than the others. He is extremely gifted and an awesome singer. He did remain true to himself. He didn’t toe the line of the mediocre. I couldn’t believe he didn’t win- his talent was acknowledged over and over. It came down to popularity and how fast and frequently the “tweens” and AR folks could vote. I am so disappointed in the show and see no point in watching it. I agree they are not likely to find another Adam. You could see Simon was discussed and it would be no surprise if he does leave. Let’s all support the best talent. GO ADAM GO!

Geo | 5/22/2009, 3:26 pm EST

Like idols of past, Adam will be forgotten within 6 months.

suzy-q | 5/22/2009, 3:26 pm EST

Oh, I also don’t think it was a popularity contest. If it were, Adam would have won. I think all of the complainers aren’t voters.

Chairman | 5/22/2009, 3:35 pm EST

I am proud of Kris Allen. The Heartland has choosen a Sinatra over a Liberachi; class over glitz.
Allen knows who he is – a man who is first true to himself and his beliefs. We all recognize that he sings from down deep in his soul. His records will be timeless. Congratulations to you Kris. America got it right.

Sickofit | 5/22/2009, 3:56 pm EST

Hey Geo, FYI Nobody will remember Kris by next week. They will remember Adam for years, sit back and watch who the real Idol is now.

ktd | 5/22/2009, 3:57 pm EST

I have one word to describe Kris Allen… blah, blah, blah. He may gave won, but he was not the superior artist.

tjg | 5/22/2009, 4:21 pm EST

OK, so I am old, but I used to be an avid reader of RS 20 to 30 years ago. When exactly did RS decide it needed to stoop to the level of People/US magazine? Is there not enough legitimate rock/culture/political news that RS has to lower itself to give legitimacy to the tripe that is “Reality TV” in general and “Idol” in particular.

Lin Dillon, Crete, Greece | 5/22/2009, 4:22 pm EST

Have watched the whole series – when it came to the final 13, couldn’t wait, each week, to see what Adam would come up with. I’m surprised nobody has mentioned David Bowie and him in the same breath – would love to hear him do ‘Diamond Dogs’ or, most especially – ‘Time’! Bet he’d make an original of ‘Space Oddity’ too – I’ve never heard anyone cover that track, but I bet Adam could!
Congratulations to Kris – he seems a very nice, very talented young man. Perhaps the result will turn out for the best – if Adam had won, would we ever had heard much of Kris again? Whereas I’m sure we haven’t heard the last of Adam!

mmeerj | 5/22/2009, 4:28 pm EST

My name stands for my whole family who rooted for Adam during the entire season. We just adore Adam and have waited every Tuesday to experience his music and and craft. My sons, who are musician-artists, and my husband and I can’t wait for his CDs. We also love Adam’s dad and mom and I hope they read this. Their support for Adam is awesome and one can easily see that Adam was brought up with love. This is why Adam is so comfortable with his passion and with how he puts it across.
Anonymous,Oaek,Jill, TJ,Brazilian Nut, Geezlouise,Aneela, Flygirl and other Adam fans are right. It will be difficult, and we won’t, to watch AI after Adam.

amused | 5/22/2009, 4:38 pm EST

I admit that I watched the show twice but mostly because it pleased my girlfriend. Adam seemed like he’d be great on Broadway but I couldn’t listen to him on a regular basis. All these passionate opinions are really amusing. There are so many talented musicians who actually write and perform their own music. Do you remember when that was what we were looking for? American Idol is actually very sad. What would Kurt Cobain have thought of it all?

SYNERGYARTS | 5/22/2009, 4:47 pm EST

The blog-o-sphere and every entertainment show in America is telegraphing the real results about this year’s AI. “Gee, it’s nice that you won Mr. Allen…now, tell us what you think about Adam….?”

These results and all the responses tell us what is really going on…Adam Lambert is star glows brighter each day without his saying a word. By the time the AI traveling shows hit the road, Adam’s instant fan base will make him the undisputed DRAW for the entire tour with thousands of his adorning fans selling out arenas everywhere.

What is going to be fun to watch is how the show’s producers handle this turn of events… Can you imagine him not closing the show..no other artist in the lineup has the lungs or range of an Adam Lambert (which is not to take anything from the others…after all, it is God’s gift to Adam) This year many of us have turned off the TV after Adam sang…the show was over. It is hard to imagine a stirring version of “Kumbaya” done by Gokey and Allen having desired affect…

Congrats to them all..but I will be anxiously awaiting the next move from Adam Lambert.

jfm310 | 5/22/2009, 4:50 pm EST

WHY DO YOU ALL OF YOU COMPLAINING WHINING FANS OF ADAM LAMBERT SHUT UP. THE BEST MAN WON !!!!! AND JUST THINK THOSE HILLBILLYS FROM ARKANSAS VOTED FORD KRIS ALLEN BETTER THAN THE ROCKGLAM GODS FROM ACROSS THE U.S. DON’T BELIEVE FOR ONE MINUTE THAT LAMBERT FANS DID NOT VOTE JUST ONE TIME FOR HIM.

ParkCityMom | 5/22/2009, 5:05 pm EST

Why would any “Adam” wanna-be’s want to try out for Idol in the future? They know what the outcome would be. Adam broke the mold and we will never see the likes of him again in a singing “competition” like this.

sd | 5/22/2009, 5:10 pm EST

I believe both have won and reached the beginning of a dream..
Who are we to take away the glory for either of them…Both with their different styles will become successful thanks to AI for selecting them and giving them a chance.
I may not always agree with the judges throughout the season. Sometimes I feel SC can be a bit harsh. But so are the fans of AI, after reading some of these comments we are worse.
Let Kris and Adam enjoy there life, fame and glory and continue to entertain us with there talents.

Christophe | 5/22/2009, 5:14 pm EST

I’ve watched every second of every season of AI, and ADAM LAMBERT was by far the best contestant the show had ever had.

Yet, he still didn’t win. I am as sad for my country as when George Bush was re-elected. I’m sure the same factors that got Bush in office again worked for Kris Allen: homophobia and some voter cheating in one state (for Allen-Arkansas, for Bush-Ohio.)

Childish | 5/22/2009, 5:15 pm EST

What I learned today.
1. Adam fans are all over the internet slamming Kris fans and Idol for being homophobes.
2. The very same Adam fans are all over the Internet posting gay bashing comments about Clay Aiken for not idolizing their Adam.
3. That Gene Simmons of Kiss thinks Adam has a Broadway voice not a rocker voice.
4. The Adam fans are bashing Gene Simmons and Kiss now too.
4. Bo Bice doesn’t like Adam either. Watch out Bo.

mad4admam | 5/22/2009, 5:40 pm EST

To Eagle Eyes and MSWrite – Thank you for your analysis of the voting system for American Idol! I’m 58 years old and I voted 200 times (for Adam) on a land line phone!!! And it took me 2 hours of dogged persistence to log those measely numbers in. I was trying to explain how the voting works (as I then understood it) to a friend at work. “You mean, there are only 5 people in the whole country who are actually voting?” she said. “Each one 10,000,000 times?” I totally agree that viewer voting should be ONE VOTE EACH PHONE NUMBER/PERSON and then see where the chips may fall. We who are upset that Adam lost the title are not just whiners or bad losers. We know in our hearts that it’s not about Adam or Kris – there’s something very wrong with the American Idol show at the core. I’m not buying a special phone to vote on a reality show. Let me know when it’s one vote per caller – In the meantime, I, for one, am done with AI. I know I didn’t say anything new here, but as the dust settles, I think the attention should turn away from the contestants, and should challenge the ethics behind this cheap and tawdry show. It needs a lot of cleaning up!!

marathonH | 5/22/2009, 5:53 pm EST

You know, I’m just so happy for Adam. To see this emotional outpouring of support for him is just awesome. It actually moves me to tears to see so many people affected by him. What a star!

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 5:54 pm EST

To the person who said..SHUT up to all of us Adam fans I say…Get lost! The best man did not win,the best singer did not win. A bunch of young girls voted for who they thought was cute. Even then I say..buy some eye glasses with his weird mouth, and screachy voice and chimp face I couldn’t even look at the television! Barf, Barf!

Adam you are the best, and you will never be forgotten, and you will go on to do amazing things. Chris is at home and knows in his heart he isn’t the best..and hence he was shocked. He will never amount to much and he will be washed up in no time, because he is a chimp and a lousy performer!

raisedlefteyebrow | 5/22/2009, 6:00 pm EST

What We Learned from American Idol: Rolling Stone really IS the commercial rag I’ve been saying it is. There are new albums being prepared left and right, the summer festival season is about to start, there are new artists worht covering, and good old RS decides to devote its full attention to the washed up FORMER cultural phenomenon that is American Idol. “Slavish devotion” is right.

phil | 5/22/2009, 6:11 pm EST

From the sounds of most of the pro-Adam folks I get the impression that they think the majority of rock singers suck because they lack the vocal range Adam has. I’m sorry but if vocal range were the only qualifier to be a “rock star” we would be looking at a whole different set of folks than we have for the past 50 years.

I’ll take Adam and the Ants over Adam Lambert any day.

dlt | 5/22/2009, 6:11 pm EST

Three judges constitute a democracy? We all learned how to count up to two, as in Lambert and Allen.

Time to snag the Ryan Seacrest Live album

mad4admam | 5/22/2009, 6:24 pm EST

Based on the bogus “voting” system American Idol has concocted many of us are confused and angry. – I know I am/have been!! We know that Kris got more “votes” than Adam, so Kris wins. But how come Adam was front-runner all along (or so we thought) and then didn’t win? We keep trying to figure this all out. Is it the tweens, was it all those folks in Arkansas, was it because Danny left and Kris got Danny’s votes, or maybe because Adam might be gay? IT’S THE VOTING SYSTEM, STUPID!!! It’s got nothing to do with the contestants. It’s got nothing to do with the voters! The contestants are the bait, and we, the viewers, are the fish. We are so busy focusing on the bait we don’t see the HOOK inside the bait. The HOOK is an AT&T texting phone. What we’re really watching the show for is not to vote for an AMERICAN IDOL – it is to BUY a special phone that texts more votes in than any other phone. And I’m not buying any high-tech phone to vote on a reality show. Count me out of that cheap game. Thanks Eagle Eyes and MSWrite for helping me figure this out.

Kelly | 5/22/2009, 6:26 pm EST

Oh my God was Adam fabulous when he sang Beth- so beautiful , and then with Kiss and then to top it off he did Freddie Mercury proud. Is there anyone out there today who could sing as well as Freddie Mercury…… I don’t think so. Wow, what a voice. I am stunned, I love this guy.

Jo Moore UK | 5/22/2009, 6:34 pm EST

It’s not about not liking Kris – sweet genuine guy, probably a worthy enough winner any other year – but Adam is simply in a class of his own – and that’s against most current artists not just Idol competitors. Not many people watch in the UK, everyone I know who has watched even casually is deeply shocked at the result. But at least he doesn’t have to sing that bloody awful song! Thank you Adam – you have made me love music again like I haven’t since I was a teenager, you have made me love songs I never knew I liked, you are an amazing performer and your recorded versions make me cry they are so unbelievably good. You may not be American Idol but you are a World Idol!

GMAB | 5/22/2009, 7:47 pm EST

Get a grip, people. Kris Allen won because any of his studio versions could be put on any adult contemporary radio station TOMORROW. Kris’ music is similar to Donovan Frankenreiter, Jack Johnson, Eric Hutchinson, Ben Harper etc. He’s relevant! We already have an Axl Rose. Did you buy his last album? Me neither.

Max | 5/22/2009, 8:45 pm EST

Oh by the way, it just came to me…To those who think the Kris vs Adam finale was a battle between blue state and red state, you are wrong. Check out Arkansas. The governor is from the Democratic party, the senators are Democrats, three congressmen (including the one representing the region where Conway belongs) are also Democrats. Arkansas has only one Republican congressman.

Eli | 5/22/2009, 8:45 pm EST

See the Canadians are blasting American culture by our choice again. Quite interesting considering they have no culture of their own. Not to mention, having the luxury of sponging off the safety & freedom the U.S. military has provided.

jan | 5/22/2009, 8:52 pm EST

Australia is waiting for your album Adam. Your amazing and gifted and you will do well at whatever you do. The judges got it right America didn’t. Kris is boring no personality will be quickly forgotten.

DaMama | 5/22/2009, 9:03 pm EST

I have watched American Idol since the beginning. I’ve been to almost every concert. The original premise of AI was to take amateurs and find a superstar. Adam Lambert has had professional training, and toured off-Broadway with “Wicked”. That is NOT an amateur. Kris Allen plays guitar, piano and sings. He is a multi-dimensional performer. Adam screeched half his songs. What he did to “Ring of Fire” was an atrocity! I think Adam will do just fine. But in the true spirit of American Idol, Kris deserved to win. I think he will do just fine. I plan on buying his CD the day it comes out.

mokeycat | 5/22/2009, 9:45 pm EST

Iam a baby-boomer and musician, and Adam blew me away! First I could not believe that Kris won more votes than Danny Gokey. He clearly had more charisma and a better voice. But I thought that surely Adam would win the title. Kris has a good voice, he’s very charming and sweet, but there is not that charisma that a real star has. He is more along the lines of a folk rocker, which is great. My generation had a lot of those and we loved them. But Adam is a star. I recorded the show every week and often watched his performance several times. I’ve never done that before! One of Adam’s qualities is a sense of danger- you never know what he’s going to do next! I think that’s very unsettling for most Americans. Adam is on the edge, and people here do not like that. So it makes perfect sense that Kris won. But it’s just a title. Adam IS the real winner because because all kinds of people in the music biz are going to be beating down his door. And when he does his first solo tour, you better believe I’ll be there.

poughkeepsiejohn | 5/22/2009, 10:07 pm EST

I can sum up the reason why Adam Lambert didn’t win in just one word: GUYLINER!

muzik | 5/22/2009, 11:08 pm EST

AI addict | 5/22/2009, 11:14 pm EST

I am from Arkansas, an AI addict and a Kris and Adam fan. I never heard about any software that helps you vote. I voted several times via phone. I too waited hours to get through. Was this software available only in Arkansas? It sure sounds like it from all the comments I’ve read. Yet, I highly doubt it. Were Kris fans somehow the only ones that knew about it? The anger that is in these comments is overwhelming. Let’s just be happy for these two talented guys, enjoy their music and support them. Save your passions, for world peace, saving the earth for our grandchildren, finding a cure for cancer, and putting an end to our culture of death. This is just a competition, not something to turn the world upside down for. I don’t think Kris or Adam want to hear these negative, angry comments. They are both nice guys. Too nice, infact, to want angry fans. Everyone needs to get a life.

Speaking for the Aussies | 5/22/2009, 11:19 pm EST

The truth is Adam has just as much if not more musical background and training than Chris. Adam can rewrite a song in a way that makes it unique and his voice is unmistakeable. Chris’s voice is nice but ‘a-dime-a-dozen’, if you here him on the radio you won’t know who it is by the sound of his voice alone.

Adam has the kind of vocal range that maybe 5 people every 100 years can claim to have and use effectively.

Charisma, he speaks beautifully, he is charming, elegant, eloquent, jaw-droppingly handsome, more talent the rest of the top ‘11′ put together… I can’t believe in this day and age some of you can still make comment on where someone comes from, or their sexuality in relation to their deserving to win a SINGING competition -

Adam won fulstop

He will be a huge star DESPITE AI

gWEnie | 5/22/2009, 11:24 pm EST

i do think AI should fix their voting system otherwise involved the judges on crowning the winner!man its so obvious in the finale who is the best!!its hard to swallow what they use to create AI to search for the best of the best then later the best didnt win…its like were cheated and its way out of order!!!it is really disappointing every time i saw the clip when ryan announced the winner i feel like im being flushed!!!

gWEnie | 5/22/2009, 11:26 pm EST

btw…
danny is awesome!!awesome than kris…

Chilifan | 5/22/2009, 11:34 pm EST

I honestly feel sorry for Kris, because he himself knows in his heart that Adam was the star. I really wish him success, but I can’t imagine buying his music. I like rock, not pop.

At first, I was really angry that America made this choice, but then I realized that it was actually better in the long run for Adam not to win. He would have been locked into whatever AI producers wanted him to do for at least a year, instead of being able to go his own way. Adam will have a huge career regardless.

Will Kris do as well?He is talented, no doubt, but even he admits that his best work came about when he was pushed to work harder. I liked David Cook, still do, but after the show, his music was mediocre compared to what he did on AI, where you are pushed to do your best, and out of your comfort zone. Perhaps he will do better now that he is out of his contract to them.

Good luck to both of them, but for my money, Adam Lambert is and always will be a star. Even the Kris fans should admit that the show would have sucked without him.

Speaking for the Aussies =) | 5/22/2009, 11:43 pm EST

We are all in my house we have Foxtel on – we are all pottering about the kitchen/lounge preparing dinner and none of us are paying attention to Idol on the screen – it is background noise at the moment – nothing that has happened has grabbed anyones attention – then Adam starts to sing – the rush to find the remote – ’shush eveyone’ – the burners on the stove get turned down low and everyone stops where they are and watches the TV in silence…

When it is over we look at each other – ‘whoah.’ ‘how good is he!’ ‘That blew me away’- then we find our vocabularies again and we discuss with contemplation the awesome talent we have just witnessed.

If the rest of the world had had a vote there is no question who would have won – From what I have read, I think alot of contributing factors to Adam’s loss are related to predudice, state pride, appearance in relation to his dress and make-up – and none of these things have anything to do with his ability to sing – I think it is an absolute travesty and they should cancel the show – I have no faith the right man/woman will win next time either. They didnt show Simon’s face at the end of the show… I wonder how he feels.

dlt | 5/22/2009, 11:48 pm EST

dkstar | 5/23/2009, 12:04 am EST

I was surprised as many of you were to see Kris Allen win, I was hoping for KA to win, but never thought he would, with all judges basically giving Adam the award weeks ago, Now that has all passed, I think KA will be a great artist and songwriter as well as singer, I feel Adam was excellent at singing others tune and reworking them to fit his style every week, but I didnt care for his screaming or some of his reworkings , some of them were fantastic, I think Kris did a excellent job at sing all the songs and making some his own style without destroying the song, I also feel KA will be a much better song writer than Adam , he will earn his credit easily, Adam will have to work hard to get people to buy his music, I hope I am wrong would like to see most of the top 13 succeed in the business, but I feel Ka and Matt G will do the best they seem like they all around talented and able to write songs, adam will maybe do songs that others have written, I dont know this for sure just the vibe they gave off. Scott M, I also think will succeed he was very good and deserved a week or two more on the show, kudos to him for even trying, I will buy his album first.

silvernana | 5/23/2009, 12:18 am EST

My husband and I are in our mid-sixties, and watched every week just to see what Adam would come up with. He is incredibly talented with an unbelievable range, and you just couldn’t take your eyes off him. Chris should have been off the show several weeks ago, and the finals should have been Adam and Allison with Adam the winner. Obviously, it has proven not to be about talent, but a popularity contest, because Adam was head and shoulders above the rest. I, too, compare him to Elvis, because he just has “it”. He will be a huge star, and Chris will be soon forgotten.

bev | 5/23/2009, 1:19 am EST

Kris who? Kris is cute, but has no talent. Next year at this time, he’ll be lucky to be asked to sing at a new Walmart opening.

Anne | 5/23/2009, 1:48 am EST

Wow. Both fans of Adam and Kris are so immature. We have a right to like and not like who we want, but to wish someone to fail just because you’re pick didn’t win (or won)…that’s the lamest thing ever. Adam was gracious and loving towards Kris, yet fans are basically wishing the worst for Kris. Why? Kris may not be your thing, but that doesn’t make him any less talented. Adam wasn’t my pick, but I have nothing but mad respect for the guy and wish for him everything that’s great. The contest is over, everyone is getting to work, so stop crying over it already. Take a cue from Adam.

Anne | 5/23/2009, 2:02 am EST

There was a comment on here about Hollywood being “upset” at the outcome of the competition. You really think Hollywood cares? They may have been surprised…but I highly doubt they are upset. Kris’ winning is called an “”upset” not because most people are upset about it, but because it’s not what most people expected. Where was L.A. during the whole voting process anyway? Half of the celebs probably didn’t watch most of the season, but they just need to be seen on camera again. Same old crap.

glo Australia | 5/23/2009, 2:08 am EST

I am a first time “Idol” watcher from Australia, who has been hooked on musicians and entertainers such as Beethoven, Pat Boone, Bill Haley, Ella Fitgeral, Little Richard, Vivaldi, Elvis, Bette Midler, Queen, Sting, Abba, Celine Dionne, Pavarotti etc etc etc.

I am a music lover since the 1940’s and having watched the whole Idol series from the auditions through to the finals, I was absolutely hooked, fascinated and entertained throughout.

I appreciated the music/technical knowledge of Randy, Kara & Paula. Simon’s sound sense of potential talent in the Idol line up plus his personal talent for succinct and straight talking analysis, balanced the overdone “gush” that occured during the last three shows.

Adam’s showmanship was mostly fun and exciting to watch. He displayed a confidence enhanced by his several years experience, supoort and opportunity as a professional. Sadly I thought his trade mark “scream” overshadowed his wide vocal abilities, but his “Im here – now deal with me” attitude was edgy, provocative and excitingly wicked.

Kris’s musical and vocal skills had substance, clarity and exuded a genuine passion for singing and respect for the songs. His performance was enriched by his voice that could both rock, enchant and converse with the audience. He is an honest and talented singer and musician who rose to the demands of the “American Idol” schedule.

I would go to an Adam show and love it and buy tickets for my adult grandchildren.

I would go to Kris’s concerts and buy tickets for all my granchildren, and buy his CD’s for myself and my friends.

By the way who really knows who the American people voted for …. anything other than one vote one value is meaningless. Its the experience and the opportunity to showcase and develop your talent that counts.

Well done to ALL finalists – what a fantastic effort and committment. Well done to the four skilful feisty judges – I was entertained with your reparte and the ocassional sexual energy between you all. And to Ryan – a great compere and moderator throughtout the tensions, the steams and the storms of the shows.

jeanne | 5/23/2009, 2:44 am EST

Okay the voting system is off – this time it won’t hurt, but if AI allows it to happen again they will regret it. Saying Kris’wife was shoved into the backgound is nonsense. He told Jay Leno that she felt he would get more votes from teeny boppers if she wasn’t around!
Adam Lambert is a sensation who will not go away. How do you forget him? He has something intangible as all the greats have had. My husband fell asleep twice as Kris sang – and he thinks Kris is a wonderful singer – however not as great as Adam, he admits.

BernadineS-AussieFan | 5/23/2009, 3:10 am EST

Just how many people who have made negative comments all over the web about Adam screaming have actually taken the time to listen to the studio versions of the songs he sang on AI.
You all might be pleasantly surprised.
Live music is always hyped up to get the crowd going and yeah even Adam knows that, he is a performer after all.
His albums will be best sellers and all his live shows will be sell outs, wait and see.

Jack | 5/23/2009, 4:16 am EST

I don’t care how talented some people say these American Idol performers are. To me, all of them sound like the future D-list cruise ship performers of the 21st century.

takesix | 5/23/2009, 9:27 am EST

maybe it’s a good thing adam did’nt win, he will have more control over his music career and direction he feels it should go…… good luck Kris.

dlt | 5/23/2009, 9:56 am EST

I thought Kris was a bit too Roky Erikson, but I’m glad he won

floater | 5/23/2009, 10:36 am EST

Serously, this is a music contest. It’s not a culture war. Neither finalist at least felt that way. It’s about music, and while I should be an Adam fan based on my support of gay rights, ultimately his music exhausts me. For me it was all about show em every not you got every time. I’m just not into that type of music. I hate divaish music, and to me that’s exactly what Adam’s music is. Sure he has an amazing range…I just don’t need to hear its entirety in every song. I feel Kris had a better connection to his songs. I liked him better, and not because he’s straight and/or Christian. That means shit to me. I just could listen to him all day. Can’t say the same about Adam.

Mbagirl13 | 5/23/2009, 10:43 am EST

Personally there was something wrong with the voting. There were 10 of us here dialing on 10 different phones for over 2 hours. Less than 10% of our calls went through due to busy signals. That’s just wrong. I don’t believe the vote. I think it was fixed. Adam is the star. I predict Kris will be forgotten before the tour is over. Milktoast does not sell records.

tal | 5/23/2009, 10:59 am EST

adam world idol!!!
pleaz come to israel !!!

Thea | 5/23/2009, 11:27 am EST

I really hope Adam goes the rock-glam rock way, and not the more pop-dance way like some of his pre-Idol stuff. He would fill a big void in the music market. I think that’s part of why Adam struck such a chord.
Look forward to getting his CD.

TexGal | 5/23/2009, 11:39 am EST

There are four factors that affected my preference for Kris, though I would not have been unhappy with an Adam win. First, I favor someone whose music I like to hear. Adam, although blessed with incredible talent and ability, sings in such an overblown theatrical fashion, that I don’t enjoy listening. Second, a person that exhibits talent beyond vocal ability, i.e. arranging, playing instruments, impresses me. Third, Kris’ song choices, like David Cook’s, showed something about the person that he is that was very appealing. By this, I am not making reference to any sexuality issues, as for me they are a non-factor. Finally, the judge’s treatment of these two had the affect of galvanizing my support for Kris. To have Simon, who clearly never wishes to be wrong, state publicly that Adam would win so early in the season, is inappropriate. Then, when he and others are consistently critical of performances by Kris that the audience loves, you have to question their motives. Personally, I found them as over-the-top with their praise of Adam as Adam was with his style of performing.

Soylent | 5/23/2009, 12:21 pm EST

What we learned: America likes to reward consistent mediocrity over critically acclaimed brilliance. Kris is probably one of the least talented AI winners. You’d have to pay me to go to a snoozy Kris Allen concert, and I can’t see how he is going to hold up along side some of the other Idol winners who clearly had major star potential when they won, like Clarkson, Underwood, and Cook. Adam Lambert made more sense. He’ll be a star regardless. America really screwed the pooch on this one.

calvinshobbes | 5/23/2009, 12:53 pm EST

Congratulations to Kris. Adam will be fine. Kris showed all season his musicality and artistry. Kris received no pimping, no over the top praise, no sob story and early performance (death) slots. He accepted criticism and grew as an artist all season. He is the true underdog and against all odds, he won. That is what American Idol should be and for once, it was.

dlt | 5/23/2009, 1:28 pm EST

Wild Man Fisher can’t do gigs anymore, so Adam’s doing them for him

TC - Sydney | 5/23/2009, 1:48 pm EST

Wow, I really can’t believe some of these comments. What the hell? Are you all serious? Kris Allen won – he was the complete package and everyone loves an underdog. Good on you mate and all the best. I would rather be in my car listening to Kris. If Jamie Foxx was prepared to do a duet with him, then he’s worth every cent.TC

CrystalSpyder4 | 5/23/2009, 3:26 pm EST

I definitely have to disagree in terms of Kara’s contribution to AI. She instantly became my favorite judge. She certainly has more to offer in terms of critique than Randy (who exists only to remind the contestants that they “CAN SING!”…thanks for the reminder.) True, her “No Boundaries” song completely blows…but what else do you expect Pop Idols to sing? This wasn’t a surprise..it’s as bad as every song the winners are forced to sing.

I seriously hope that Kara’s contract is renewed. After she’s been part of the family for one season, she will be seriously missed if she is missing.

dlt | 5/23/2009, 4:06 pm EST

Maybe Right Said Fred, Barry Manilow, Hootie and the Blowfish, Wham really rock Jamie Foxx’s world

Kazzy | 5/23/2009, 5:51 pm EST

The vote was definitely screwed up due to the computerized texting programs that has been discussed. (I used the phone and couldn’t get through, but Arkansas got in 38 million texts and only has 2.8 million people, therefore something was wrong there). However, ADAM is clearly one of the most talented singers in history, and has a huge fan base, and will really be a superstar that everyone remembers for decades to come. Kris will fade into boring nothingness. I’m sad because I can’t see Adam again next Tuesday, but have all of his ITunes videos and songs I listen to daily (home, car, etc.) I need Adam rehab!

Laurie | 5/23/2009, 5:58 pm EST

Listen. This is what it’s all about. Millions upon millions all over the world (from Australia, Canada, Israel, you name it) are ALL WAITING TO BUY ADAM’s ALBUM. That speaks for itself.

dlt | 5/23/2009, 6:09 pm EST

Paula Abdul should be allowed to vote. She used to perform w/ cartoons–and still does

ShariG | 5/23/2009, 7:51 pm EST

Your kernals of wisdom, for the most part, made me laugh outloud. Couldn’t agree more about most. I did, however, really enjoy Kris Allen’s Man in the Mirror performance on Michael Jackson week. It was one of the first times I really sat up and took notice of him. Of course it was also one of the first time AI bothered to show him on television. He started a little shaky, sounded a bit nervous, and then really got into the song. It is worth a second listen.

ShariG | 5/23/2009, 7:57 pm EST

LOL Every year there are Soylent’s in the crowd who vow never to listen to, never to buy, never to tune in, never to go…because their favorite didn’t win. That’s okay it is hard to be a loser. But, the fact is Adam got exactly what Adam himself said he wanted. He got noticed. He got the attention of the music world and he got to be on television for the entire show, as did Kris. Both singers have opportunity now to do something great and creative and I, for one, can’t wait for both of them to tour, make their first album, and make the most of the chance they have been given. My personal preference is for an acoustical, stipped down Kris Allen. I find him magical. But there is room for an over-the-top, flamboyant, theatrical, phenomenal voiced Adam Lambert as well. Good luck to both, and congratulations to Kris Allen for winning over more than half of the voters.

jen | 5/23/2009, 8:16 pm EST

Sally | 5/23/2009, 8:52 pm EST

Season 8 will always be remembered for Adam-Lambert. The
Glam Rock Sex God comment was great. I wouldnt’ be surprised if Simon quits AI in one year because of the results. He was clearly pissed.

Kris, although I like him (he is a great guy) and his musicality, was not the one we will remember from season 8, just like Rolling Stone has said.

ANITA | 5/23/2009, 9:37 pm EST

Roky Erikson and Kris Allen both play guitar. And they both watch TV

Rebecca | 5/23/2009, 10:59 pm EST

Interesting season of AI.
Still think that Danny Gokey was the most talented all around.
However, Chris Allen deserved it in the end.
Adam was too cocky, and just stuck in rock style.
Hopefully, they will adjust the rules next year for voting!!

Beau | 5/24/2009, 1:57 am EST

You know, Kris is a fine artist and seems to be a nice guy. Adam is a fine artist and seems to be a nice guy. They each have their own niche. But, it is my opinion that Kris shouldn’t have been in the final two to begin with. Based on talent alone, and this show is about talent…(right?)the little rocker chick sang Kris and Gokey under the table. And I predict, she will keep pace, or surpass, both Adam and Kris in sales. Soon people will realize just what she mean’t to the show, and just what they missed out on. I’ve been a media/music producer for twenty-eight years with great success, I might add, and the little girl is the real deal! We producers are very aware of the voting procedures, and after perusing tapes and various media, we are very cognizant of their potential. I’ll be getting in touch with her, as I know for a fact, some have already done. She will be just fine, and I wish nothing but the best for the two young men.

dlt | 5/24/2009, 10:27 am EST

LisaH | 5/24/2009, 11:07 am EST

Adam is incredible. This season was my favorite because it introduced Adam to the world. The “Adam Lambert, American Idol runner-up” label will fade pretty quickly and be replacedby “Adam Lambert, International Superstar.”

Can’t wait for Adam to hit Asia on Tour! He is what you’d pay good money to go watch LIVE in Concert.

Margaret | 5/24/2009, 11:51 am EST

What I learned is that American Idol is going to lose viewers if it doesn’t fix its voting system.

Aaron | 5/24/2009, 2:20 pm EST

I agreed that the finale is complete rubbish!!the top 13 is SO DAMN AWFUL!it remind me of season 6 so much..AWFULLLLL!!!
it such a shame because they got Queen and KISS but the top 13 just ruined everything lol..but i think last season finale is the best season of all,the top 12 really can sing and a very much talented than this season, they even get the audience dance on their feet all night long..yeah,AI7 still the best..from the start till the end..
The only performance that make sense that night(AI8 Finale)is David Cook,it’s hard for him to sing that song but he get through it amazingly..kudos to him..
anyway, good luck to Kris..maybe America got it right, who knows?only time has the answer..

ianaleah | 5/24/2009, 6:25 pm EST

Right on! I only can (glam rock sex god yea yea yea))add that in top 25 itunes downloads the “vote” is different. Adam Lambert has 14 in top 25, while Kris Allen has 3 in top 25. These two guys are very different performing artists-nothing wrong with variety-we get double the fun. The thing though is this-the only one I can’t wait to see is Adam Lambert. Been that way all along.

dlt | 5/24/2009, 6:56 pm EST

The time is now, and what’s the answer?

ianaleah | 5/24/2009, 8:06 pm EST

Got it right! I’ll add only that Adam Lambert ad ‘glam rock sex god’ is most suitable because he appeals to women and men young and old.
The low ratings for the finale-east coast friends let us know the vote results-countless numbers decided at that point not to watch.
I’m one of them, changed my mind, saw parts, turned it off before results announced.

will | 5/24/2009, 8:34 pm EST

I’m a big Adam fan but I wish Kris the best. Kris and Adam are clearly very close and respectful of one another and they set a good example for the rest of us. It really does feel like Kris’ victory is tainted due to things like a poor voting system and all the focus on Adam’s lifesytle regardless of whether any of this is really true. It just shouldn’t be that way. It’s not fair to either of them. I suspect nothing will change though and that the producers probably just really don’t care who actually wins beyond about the top 5 or so. The end of the process is clearly more about ratings and the voting system is setup so that the only way you can make a big impact is to pay AT&T text messaging fees for multiple phones as the toll-free phone lines are always jammed that late in the season. Regardless, I wish Adam and Kris the best on their careers, they’re both really talented, if very different, artists and there’s room for both of them in many of our music collections.

Alx | 5/24/2009, 8:44 pm EST

I’m just thankful for this season because it gave us Adam Lambert. Can’t wait to see what the future is holding for him! I’ll be the first in line buying his album and attending his concerts.

Adam is the best EVER on idol. I dont think we gona watch another season with someone like him…

J.C. | 5/24/2009, 9:49 pm EST

I’m an Allison fan but I wish them all success especially Allison. American Idol is just a title you don’t need to win to be successful or lose to be a failure. The important thing is their careers after the show will they be Kelly Clarkson or Taylor Hicks alike? no one knows yet so just support your idols.

Another Adam Fan in Australia | 5/24/2009, 10:38 pm EST

I was glued to AI each week on Foxtel just to see Adam – he is a tremendous talent – I will be looking for his album or CD. I believe eveyone except America agrees he is the true idol. As far as Gene from Kiss – I am from that era and have to say I never bought a Kiss album – I never considered that they were real Rock artists – their main appeal was to be different with their outfits however when they sang the costumes did not really depict their music. The first time I saw them I thought they would be rel rockers but was disappointed. Gene was more famous for his tongue and what mother would want him as an idol for their daughters with his constant bragging about all his female conquests – Kiss has had their day and Adam really helped their geratic performance on the AI finale. Adam is more of a ROCK STAR than Gene ever was or could hope to be. Australia would welcome Adam here anyday. Adam you will be a superstar worldwide.

G.L.A.M. | 5/24/2009, 11:12 pm EST

Good luck to Kris and Adam. Both really NICE men! I am looking forward to hearing from both of them in the future. Get those albums out for us!

Tiffany | 5/25/2009, 1:34 am EST

What we learned from Season 8 of American Idol:
The best singer/perfomer doesn’t always win.

Mitch | 5/25/2009, 3:08 am EST

Wow, the little insignificant state of Arkansas has really shaken the world up. I’ve nevers seen this much whining about a popularty contest between a resonably-talented singer-guitarist and an over-the-top camera baby with an equally over-the-top vocal range.

Whine on, that’s all I have to say.

I live fifty miles from Conway and voted ONCE, and I think the best man won. Kris is natural; Adam is show, plain and simple.

Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp… Some of the true American greats wouldn’t have stood a chance in hell on this show, for the same reason Kris “didn’t.”

john | 5/25/2009, 6:53 am EST

What I learned today.
1. Adam fans are all over the internet slamming Kris fans and Idol for being homophobes.
2. The very same Adam fans are all over the Internet posting gay bashing comments about Clay Aiken for not idolizing their Adam.
3. That Gene Simmons of Kiss thinks Adam has a Broadway voice not a rocker voice.
4. The Adam fans are bashing Gene Simmons and Kiss now too.
4. Bo Bice doesn’t like Adam either.

haha..Adam’s fans is so damn stupid for calling him a ROCK GOD..he is not a rock singer, not even close..
he is the showguy, maybe Broadway is more suitable for him..Adam’s fans don’t even know what Rock means..lol..
I don’t really have a favourite this season because this season really SUCK!!The finale is suck too(but i like David Cook performance,AMAZING!)..last season still the best of all..but i’m glad Kris won.
Only time have the answer..well the “time” is when their finally have an album..who got more sales is the true winner..got it??

dlt | 5/25/2009, 8:06 am EST

Thanks, AI. From you I learned that visionaries suck. And if you can kiss butt–feel free to insert your own metaphor–you’ll win something

tommycanyouhearme | 5/25/2009, 10:13 am EST

sums it up best

ONES ABILITY TO SING DOES NOT ALWAYS TRANSLATE INTO ONES ABILTIY TO BE LISTENED TO.

Yes Adam has the best chops and the most showmanship but somehow that didn’t translate into a victory…a sucess for him yes and good for him and his fans. He himself said he did what he set out to do use AI as a showcase for his career. Kris is just as talented but has more lowkey style not as polished or at home on a stage yet but as he has proved all season long he is a quick study and by the AI tours end should have it down pat. America chose who it chose …and I don’t think it came down to homophobia or the christian right or unfair voting ect. TV is a cool medium always has been prob always will be ..we invite people into our homes …the theater/stage and movies are HOT mediums fit for outsized personalities and the old theory goes its hard for a tv personality to make the transition to movies and visa versa. Adam is hot …Kris is cool…I just think over the course of months Hot just started to work against Adam and he lost steam while for Kris..cool worked …viewers just felt more comfortable and connected with him than they did with Adam.

Another telling thing looking at the current itunes download chart I think Adam has 14 Kris 12 ..looking at Adams list the funny thing was on most of them I couldn’t really remember what/how the whole song sounded..could remember how Adam looked ..the visual/vocal impression but the whole song itself apart from that.. not so much. Looking at the list for Kris…for most selections I was like..oh ya it went like this ..he changed it up here ..this is the part where the band came in ect. more about the song and the musicianship less about showmanship. Also Allens list just seemed more current and fresh and Lamberts list a bit more old fashioned ..really more like a Vegas or theatrical review.

In the end I think it came down to Adam peaked too soon …and Kris peaked at just the right time and at the end was coming off as more current fresh and real. Both can have great careers if they play it smart. If I were Adam I would keep the Showmanship but find a way to come off more real and for Kris I would keep the real and find a way to up the showmanship just a bit.

delsa | 5/25/2009, 12:10 pm EST

We learned that America’s viewers do not determine who will become the American Idol. The votes do not equal the number of supporters for each contestant; it represents the number of votes, which is not limited. The voting patterns are not revealed because the key factor was not the point spread between Kris and Adam. It’s the total number of voters vs. the percentage of them who cast extremely large numbers of votes per person. Anyone who knows anything about averages can tell you that a small number of people casting a huge number of votes per person (hundreds, or even thousands, for 8 hours, not 4, using multiple phones and texts), can skew the results significantly. If it were 1 person, 1 vote, Adam may well have won. We will never know. The true winner? AT&T. They sold new cell phones to rabid viewers for the sole purpose of voting huge numbers of times for their preferred contestant. And there
were voting blocks that were extremely well organized to do just that — as well as any political campaign. Quite a commentary. Fortunately, both of our final two are terrific guys who rose above all this pettiness and understood that it wasn’t about the votes — it was about the talent. And they both have it.

Hmmm…AT&T Idol. Perhaps we’ve all forgotten this is a business.

Glambert Fan | 5/25/2009, 3:24 pm EST

Adam Lambert is the epitome of an entertainer and is a reincarnated Elvis Presley. His success will be worldwide, and already is in the making. I will not watch AI until they publicy apologize for the voting fiasco this season and limit votes per phone number. I love you, Adam!!

dlt | 5/25/2009, 5:13 pm EST

What I’ve learned from watching AI is shows like Where the Action Is and Night Flight were fucking great

CanadianGirl | 5/25/2009, 5:54 pm EST

Adam is truly spectacular, great voice and great on stage – I am more interested in music than I have been in a long time. I wish him nothing but the best.

Lynn | 5/25/2009, 6:20 pm EST

I’ve decided I’m not going to publicly go on and on about how much I love Adam anymore. It’s obvious our love fest for him is irritating to those who do not feel the same way, and that generates hateful comments. Mind you, I am disappointed with my fellow Adam fans who slam Kris. Kris is also a very talented musician. We all have our own taste; we don’t all have to be the same. Both Kris and Adam should be respected for their talents and they are both winners. But I have to say this one more time: ADAM IS MY MOST FAVOURITE PERFORMING ARTIST OF ALL TIME!!! CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT HE WILL DO NEXT!!

klk | 5/25/2009, 6:38 pm EST

Adam did not lose American Idol, American Idol lost Adam.

Adam is a CLASS ACT!!

Jennifer | 5/25/2009, 6:49 pm EST

What I learned is that American Idol is an irrelevant voting competition not a talent ccompetition or even a popularity contest. I also learned how much hate and intolerance can skew the results. There are groups that would have voted for anyone who was competiting against Adam. Even a mute dummy would have been fine with them as long as Adam didn’t win. And they power voted to make sure Adam’s win didn’t happen. A very sad ending to what had been one of the best seasons because of Adam.

silvernana | 5/25/2009, 8:02 pm EST

tommycanyouhearme:
Wow! Sounds like you’re a real authority on why Adam lost. You are kidding, right, that Adam lost steam and peaked too soon. What? He didn’t peak or lose steam – he was consistently head and shoulders above the rest week after week. You can’t remember Adams’ songs? I couldn’t remember Kris’ songs, but then again they all sounded alike – boring!

dancer | 5/25/2009, 8:33 pm EST

Adam was denied the win he so deserved not only for his amazing talent but for how he pushed the other contestants to be the best they could. He is different and fresh. We don’t need any more safe boring singers that sound flat most of the time. He is a once in a lifetime talent and there will never be another AI with someone of his caliber. Look at the successful entertainers and singers. They are all a bit over the top. That is how they entertain.

BR | 5/25/2009, 11:40 pm EST

Well, the comments here are all over the place. Adam was the best, Adam sucks. Allison was too ugly, Allison has no personality. Wrong song choice, great song choice. And for cryin’ out loud, their hair looked bad. Guess that’s why there are comment sections, so I’m gonna give mine.
Adam has a great sense of the art of entertainment. He has a great set of pipes, and knows how to use them. He is multifaceted, as well as original….and a great personality!
Allison is devine! She has the quirky enthusiasm of a normal teenager, but has a mature understanding of music. She can connect with any artist, at any time, and the artist is better for it. She has a musician’s soul and grit, and will only become more endowed with knowledge as she ages. She is a good kid from a good background, who actually knows what she wants to accomplish in life. She’s not a beautiful pre-packaged fembot (I believe we’ve got enuff of those empty-headed wanna-be’s). She is cute to the millionth degree, with the happy, funny personality to match! Allison is someone who people want to be around. We all know people like that, that we want good things to happen to. Personally, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her!
Her and Adam will both achieve just what they want to achieve. They are both blessed with talent beyond compare, and know just what they want to do with it. They are the two that will be remembered for the most significant performances this year. Can you imagine AI8 without either one?

Tumi | 5/26/2009, 1:49 am EST

This is only my fourth Season watching AI but again I’ve learned to expect the best not to win; that AI’s absurd voting system is a joke; that truth and talent can be sacrificed for pride and prejudice; and that I can quit now since I’ve found my idol.

James | 5/26/2009, 3:26 am EST

It’s funny that all Adam’s fans keep on blaming AI for the big upset..
It’s stupid because the one that should be blame is themselves for not voting real hard..if they want him to win then they should vote harder..lol..AI cannot decide on who should be a winner,it’s all up to the voters..stupid people!

BeerGuy | 5/26/2009, 3:36 am EST

Gloomy | 5/26/2009, 3:43 am EST

Big-name guests don’t guarantee ratings..yeah,you know why?because the top 13 sucks so bad!
how can they let Gokey sing Hello instead of David Cook who turn the song into a hits last year?
The worst group of talent, just like season 6..Agreed with James..they should blame themselves instead of talking shit!

dlt | 5/26/2009, 7:16 am EST

aNNoyed | 5/26/2009, 10:09 am EST

both not..
Agreed..this season SUCK!

Mile High Mojo | 5/26/2009, 10:43 am EST

Enough with the conspiracy theories. With Adam facing two similar artists in the final three, it was only natural that Danny Gokey’s fans would transfer over to the similar artist, Kris Allen. This is not a political statement, Adam’s style is the polar opposite of those two, it is simple math.

American "Karoke" | 5/26/2009, 12:40 pm EST

American “Karoke” Idol needs to be cancelled. Eight years of this crap is enough already. No talent, bringing back rock bands from the ’70s, and Paula, enough said. Just End It Already… Remove the feeding tube.

Margaret | 5/26/2009, 2:29 pm EST

The voting system needs to be investigated. At first, I was upset because it’s not one person, one vote. After checking other blogs and internet sites, I’ve learned about power texting and computer dialing. Some fans of both contestants used software programs that could register hundreds of votes, so I guess Kris’s fans were more organized and successful. Apparently, this power voting has been going on for years. I wasted four hours last Tuesday night believing traditional dialing and texting, as AI promotes, would have an impact. How naive! As far as I’m concerned, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…..”
I refuse to buy the software and won’t be voting next year.

Covering Michael Jackson is hard, unless you’re David Cook, channeling Chris Cornell, on “Billie Jean”. Still the most brilliant performance on American Idol yet.

yeah..David Cook and Daughtry rules!

Has anyone taken into consideration what the word idol actually means? I’m sure there are other parents out there like me that would prefer our children to look up to someone like Kris instead of wear someone that wears outrageous clothes or wears heavy make-up. While I enjoyed listening to Adam and feel he has talent that is over and beyond, I’ve long lost that interest in rock. I still enjoy the classics, but prefer a song with a mellow tune, and even prefer country most days. Even during country week, Adam chose to scream and whine.

“Adam Lambert didn’t lose.. he just didn’t win..”
Well,it still won’t changed the fact that he is a LOSER..
…didn’t win = LOSER…get it?

To Mitch: You didn’t have to vote more than one time for Kris–not with American Idol’s big corporate sponsor AT&T helping him.

I was gonna say that any comparisons to Elvis Presley immediately destroys your credibility, and that the one comment that stands out is yes- AI isn’t even a popularity contest, it’s a phone-dialing contest.. but most of the comments here are by 12-year-olds, I’ve had enough of AI already, too.

To John: WOW! Bo BICe dosen’t like Adam. What redneck would? He is so far ahead of what any of these people can actually comprehend-Quit bashing him and open your eyes. Yes Kris won and that is good-he never would have made a name for himself if he didn’t win. he has some talent but he blends in with the million of other singers who play in coffeehouse with their guitar. Adam is memorable-he stands out-he entertains. I could not imagine sitting through a Kris concert but an Adam concert-Exciting -diversified-and adam – amazing, gorgeous, hot ,talented the adjectives just go on and on. So let Kris sing with Minnie Mouse-and let Adam turn the world upside down.

Has it occured to anyone America voted for honesty, humility and integrity rather than deviant behavior? Adam is talented beyond belief. Kris is talented and has the balls to tell the band to take a powder, and do it on his own.

I think, the real battle on “who-is-better-adam-or-kris” will begin or is beginning now that AI8 has ended.
who can sell better albums than the other.
