He is right on the money. People who really listen to the singers know that the real rock person on the show was Allison. Adam is a fantastic singer and performer, should have been the winner and can sing almost anything, but rock singer he is not, he’s capable but when some of the judges called him a rock god, it was laughable. And he’s so right about backing Adam, who’s rockets above Kris in talent.

Considering that Adam out-wailed him to an insane degree on that song, I’d say he’s wrong.

how could Gene say Adam isn’t a rock singer when he sang better than anyone in his band? Is Freddy Mercury a rock singer? What do you need a deep husky voice for rock? There is quite an assortment of rock singers out there. Adam proved he could sing rock when he did whole lotta love, not that he needs to prove anything. and I find it absurd that Gene is commenting about anyone’s singing since he can’t sing at all.

I think Adam has a place in rock, he just has to follow rock groups such as Fall out boy, Panic at the disco etc. That’s more his vocal range.

This is a stupid pop music talent contest that children and morons who don’t know any better watch. Just imagine the real musical talent of the world appearing on American Idol (or Canadian Idol or Pop Idol or whatever.) I am a KISS fan and have been for a long time and with respect to Gene, he did not sound his best on AI. He and Paul have a distinct sound yes, but so does Robert Plant (and I thought Adam did extremely well on Whole Lotta Love..a better fit than on Cryin, which was good also). What about someone like Geddy Lee? He sounds nothing like Gene or Paul and yet RUSH is a legend, and don’t forget Freddy Mercury or Dennis DeYoung from Styx, etc. etc. There are diffent sounds and styles in any genre which is what keeps people interested. I once drank a mixture of syrup and ketchup as a kid so my brother would give me money for my first KISS album….I would do so again as an adult for an Adam Lambert rock album (and I now have the money). As well, if Gene is truly telling different people different things (ie. he can tour with us/he is not a rock singer), then he has lost any and all credibility. You only need to listen to April Wines song “I Like to Rock” to absolutely realize that Lambert is the next great rocker and great everything else. Listen to the range in that old song.

Rock voice doesn’t automatically equal success. If the songwriting is shit or the music is predictable re-tread, nobody will care how good the singer is, outside of that 15 minute fame window any pretty boy can slide into.

Outside of Pop, any other sub-genre is usually one where the artists log years and miles before they even begin to be somebody’s opening act. This guy was a contestant on an updated “Star Search”, good luck selling that to the rock world as a genuine article.

As for the voice, he’s not brought forth anything that guys like Bruce Dickinson, King Diamond, Geddy Lee, Maynard Keenan, Rob Halford, Cedric Bixler-Zayala, Layne Staley, Dio and countless others haven’t already done. The only difference is that all of the above mentioned are already in rock bands that have kicked ass for many years for doing nothing more than being the real thing.

If you sell Adam as a rocker, it will only attract those in the pop world that already adore him.

I think Adam is perfect for Queen, not Kiss. His voice is so similar to Freddey Mercury; the musical range and power of their voices. Queen should hire him and have a global tour.

He has 13 songs, 16 albums and 16 music videos on iTunes’ respective charts. Adam holds 4 of the top 5 positions on the iTunes 100 albums chart with Favorite Performances Collection coming in at #1, A Change Is Gonna Come at #2, Mad World at #3 and #5 No Boundaries. Fourteen of Adam’s 16 music videos are in the top 25 and all 16 are in the top 31 of iTunes music video charts.

Gene is ‘backtracking’ big time to impress his hardcore ‘kiss’ audience. It was published all over the web this morning by several sources that Gene made very complmentary statements about Adam to various people after the finalle. He was quoted as saying that Adam could come on tour with Kiss ‘any time’.

Would Queen have performed if Danny or Chris were the last top 2, NO definitely not, and if you noticed Adam and Queen totally acknowledge each other after that stellar performance and the look on Queens face was “Kid you got it, even I am impressed”
It’s hard to keep this comment short, but looking at the big picture, this is a blessing in disguise for Adam. He can sooner get his thing going, will get CD’s out and music videos and the record labels are lining up to sign him, we all know that. Hopefully a “World Tour” that he can gain more fans globally, because over there, he will be respected for his talent and amazing good looks, his presence alone will take his career as an artist to heights that we can’t even imagine now at this point, and I know Adam will take the world by storm, this is factual if you read the comments and see from what countries they are coming from, plus I have family all over the world.
An early morning radio interview where Adam on our Jeff&Jerr local radio station here in San Diego, Adam is so absolutely a good trooper and again it shows his professionalism as an entertainer and just a “real” good guy. If the phone lines were not so jammed up for 3 hours that one could not even cast a vote, and honestly you tell me that technology couldn’t figure out a way where only 1 vote per 1 number, and then we would have had a “real” number of America’s votes!

It depends what kind of rock you mean. Freddie Mercury was a thespian and he was an icon in the rock world-have to say way better than Kiss.
Adam Lambert will reach iconic stature if allowed to do his own thing. Adam’s risks payed off. It was only after harsh criticism early on from Simon Cowell that Adam started to pander to mainstream a little. If Adam continues his career with the same mindset he had going into the competition he will be the next HUGE very long term star.

I think Adam was simply great. Indeed, the best American Idol has ever had in competition, hands down. He is a star through and through, his presence on-stage says it all. It will be hard to watch again next season because I doubt another Adam may appear. Performers with such qualities and star potential, do not come easy. Also, Adam’s performance with QUEEN was supreme. It really got me thinking that he has what it takes to front that band. Freddy Mercury had such a voice, and I am quite sure that from heaven, Freddy is nodding in total approval of Adam singing so well such an iconic song.

Abour Kris, well, he does not have the cords my friends (vocal I mean), and he is simply a mediocre singer, the type we have become so accustomed to hear. In any instance, the tweenies are the ones who got him to win because they simply jammed the phone lines and super fast text-messaging fingers. “Kris is sooo cute, I cannot stop dreaming about him. I do not care he is married . . . maybe he will divorce her . . . she is so . . . blah, blah, blah . . . ” The tweenies were dreaming this every week, and so, they got him to win. Well, Adam is to me a super-star in the making.

We all know Chris can sing, but I think what his fans forget is that this was a singing competition. Who was the most consistent….Adam. Who was the most original…Adam. Who was only in the bottom 3 once…Adam (Chris 3 times). Chris won, because those who voted for Danny had to vote for someone and they already decided Adam was too weird for them. Chris is a good singer, but we all know Adam’s singing is on a level all his own. They both will go on to do great, but I believe Adam will go on to be great.

Maybe Gene meant there is more to being a rock star than what Adam protrays. I might be wrong, but I think Gene did not mean it in a bad way. What I think is Gene sees Adam having more versatility and not being stuck in one genre. Gene Simmons was on the show with Adam on that stage. I could be wrong, but I think Gene admires Adam more than you think. Gene has no reason to be jealous of Adam. If anything he probably sees himself as more of a mentor since he has had a long successful career himself. I am an extreme AI fan and have watched it religiously for the past 8 years. I have never disagreed as to the winner as I am this year. However, being dubbed the “winner” is only half the battle, Kris will have to carry it around and make something of himself or he will fall away like some of the past winners. Adam is about theatre end of. I come from a theatre background and know when someone is about music theatre, and when they are a rock musician. Adam belongs on Broadway and brings a great sense of spectacle to a show. Rock star? No.

I so agree with Tij’s comments on the Part 1 and Part 2 concert – Adam can do both which is one reason he will be an Icon… as for anonymous saying “most of America” liked Kris more – there was less than 1% difference between them, and it is speculated that it was mostly texts from pre-pubescent girls that put Kris over the top. Not taking anything away from Kris, but come on – there was arguably at least half of America that loves Adam’s music. They are different artists – you don’t have to like an artist for them to be great. It’s all about musical taste and preference. Methinks you protest too much because you don’t like an artist who pushes the boundaries in the way Adam does. That is precisely one of the many reasons I love Adam – he thrills and excites. I watched the interview with KISS after the show where Gene said Adam was “welcome to tour with us any time”. I can’t see him doing a 180 within 12 hours.

The bad news about Adam is he can do anything. He can sing rock,musicals,ballads….whate ver.When you can only sing one way the choice is easy. I hope he does it all. Why not. The person who thinks that he should go to Vegas has not been there in a few years. The entertainers who are lucky enough to get a gig there make big money. Stupid money in fact.
So,in conclusion, Adam, I hope you laught all the way to the bank to the stupid people that are down on you for whatever stupid bigoted reason they have.

Listen to the interview. Simmomds was respectful of Adam, liked his work with him over Allen, thought he’d be successful, but simply offered an opinion that he thought he had a better ballad or Broadway voice than rock voice, and wished him well. He was asked an opinion, he didn’t diss Adam. The headlines read like Simmonds blasts Adam. Huh? Give me a break. Grow up everybody.

It is so easy to misunderstand people. When Gene said Adam could tour with them any day….a lot of people thought he meant perform WITH KISS when he probably meant perform BEFORE KISS….which would be why it seems Gene did a 180. Although Adam’s fans thought he did so well he could perform WITH KISS. I still say he should join QUEEN!!!! at least for a tour until he figures out what he wants to do and what direction he wants to go in…why not have fun for a bit?

Face it, Adam’s voice is just so much better than most rockers, save perhaps the great Freddie Mercury. Generally as we know, rockers don’t have the greatest voices. I heard a report that 38 of the 100 million votes were from Arkansas…Then I heard a report that people are trying to deny it…I liked both singers & I do think the voting system is flawed ( see Sanjaya ) I think it should be just 1 vote per line…If the report is somewhat true…Adam got robbed but it doesn’t matter because he will be a much bigger & current star.

Everytime I see a retrospective of Adam’s songs and performances on Idol and then remember that Kris won I just have say the world has turned upside down. Gene is entitled to his opinion, but he’s obviously lost some of his hearing over the years. The vocals on Adams version of Beth were better than the the Kiss original.

Listening to the whole season of Adam’s performances is a knock-out. I can’t think of anybody – including current and past ’stars’ – with that kind of range and creativity.

Wow folks…. so much hatred and nastiness! Both these guys did a great job. Each has his own style – and that’s a great thing. Celebrate them both – what a ride this season was. They each have fans, they will each sell albums, they will each get to live out what is only a dream for many people.

Remember that this isn’t life-or-death… it was a talent competition that got all teh contestants loads of press and performances on TV with millions of viewers.

With all due respect to Kris, the Idol voters blew this one. Adam is clearly the superior singer and all around performer. But perhaps Adam won by losing. He will end up with more freedom to pursue his path to stardom while Kris will be forced to sing cheesy ballads and pretend rock numbers.

Well, everyone has an opinion, and you know what they say about those. I agree with Gene. Maybe I define “rock” differently. Queen is not really a “rocknroll” band, today they would be called “alternative.” KISS in its day did do rock songs. I agree that Adam’s voice and performances are well suited for theatrical music. I don’t think he’s the next great rocker. I can’t stand his voice for too long, frankly..and I love rock&roll…grew up with it. But I wish him the best.

Excuse me, Crystal-Whatever … but you only have to look as far as Freddie Mercury to find a voice that was classically-trained, and not originally rock-oriented. Hmmm – I think HE did alright. And my favorite of all time, Jeff Buckley, had anything BUT a rock voice, and yet his Grace album (which includes rock songs, among its eclectic offerings) is consistently in the “Top Albums” list by just about anybody who knows anything about music. Your thinking -and that of Simmons- is stuck in some kind of predictible rut. We’ve broken out of that narrow, stereotypical rock voice=rock song mentality, and thank God, because it’s so much more exciting that way. Besides, Adam out-sang EVERYONE on that finale stage, including Kiss, who sounded like weak background singers. If a powerhouse voice like Adam’s isn’t “rock material,” I don’t know what is.

Kiss came and went with a gimmick because they couldn’t sing… my opinion. Both Adam and Kris are talented in different ways… no one is a loser, and yes I agree Adam will have the Creative freedom to fly. Kris, will have to go by the rules for awhile as did Kelly Clarkson… that is the way the business is. I for one, was an Ållison fan all the way… yet, they all are different in their own ways. As seen from past years, look at the ones who have risen from not winning.. i.e. Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtery.. etc.. winners such as Taylor and Rueben have pretty much gone nowhere… here today, gone tomorrow. Yet the show always entertaining…. I also feel they should change the voting system.. to call in and vote 100 times for one… is insane… it needs to be revamped.

KISS was gimmicky, but hardly JUST a gimmick. Back in the day, KISS could bring the ROCK. BIG TIME. That proves they were more than just a gimmick.

I have to laugh at these posts making predictions. Who would have thought Jennifer Hudson would be an oscar winner? It’s all about opportunity and perserverance. All these ordinary kids have an extrordinary opportunity. Album sales will silence the critics of either Kris or Adam. In an instant gratification society, I suppose it isn’t much consolation for most of you that rush to judgement.

I disagree with the Adam can’t sing rock. The studio version of Feeling good had a Robert Plant like part near the end and Whole Lotta Love I thought was awesome. You have groups like April Wine, Rush and Prism etc…..are they hard, acid rock? No, but good fun rock and roll. I don’t see KISS as hard rock either anymore, but still cool. Come to think of it, I think Adam has a voice very much like the late Ron Tabak of Prism….wow he could totally rock their music too! Spaceship Superstar…Adam would kill it and he is out of this world anyway!

I enjoyed watching Kris Allen and Adam Lambert this season, but I am not counting the days until either of their CDs hits the stores. As for whether or not Adam Lambert is a rock singer, rock is always more about interpretation than pipes. There are a few greats who have had both, but honestly, are Bono, Bruce, or Mick blessed with great voices? No. But they sure as hell can sing some rock ‘n roll.

Rock has changed many times over the years but it always comes back to its roots, the most popular stations on the radio (both broadcast and satalite) are whats called classic Rock….I have to agree with Bryan 100% and looks didnt mean a thing either…Look at Leslie West…he was one of the ugliest rockers I have seen but man he can sing and is one of the top 5 guitar players of all time…..some of yall may not reconize the name….he was the lead of West, Bruce and Lang then the lead of Mountain…anyone remember Nantucket Sleigh Ride or Mississippi Queen….now thats Rock.

I live in Quebec Canada, let me tell you this: adam is the best and everyone I know who watched AI from here says the same. As for Gene Simmons,he took a shine from adam’s stage presence.i am a hard rock huge fan and I have seen countless shows. Stage presence is a key to success and adam has it all. Gene’s definition of ROCK is more finely tuned than most of the listening audience. I don’t think he meant to imply that Adam couldn’t sing any Rock. Especially when he earlier in a recorded interview saying Adam could join them on tour anytime, and comparing him to Freddie. Sheesh people give the big guy a break.

It’s a shame that everyone is already projecting that Kris Allen won’t amount to anything. He’s a talented singer and musician. However, I do think that the voters got it wrong and Adam should have won between the two. But if it were up to me, Danny would have won. The tonal quality of his voice is amazing. I hope all three will do well.

Adam definitely had a better voice and stage presense, Kris had a broader range, ie playing different instruments. Some of Kris’ song choices were questionable, he totally ruined Marvin Gaye’s song. I don’t think the judges showed very much impartiality over who they liked, both Kara and Paula were practically drooling over Adam every chance they got.
I was rooting for the underdog, Kris, so I’m glad he won. I wouldn’t buy either one’s album though, they wouldn’t be singing music I like anyway.

I think the Gene Simmons and Adam Lambert’s rock styles are completley different. Adam Lambert is more of the Steven Tyler rocker, while Gene Simmons has a more raspy style of rock. Adam is very high and screachy(in a good way) So I think that Simmons is correct in saying he wont be rocker in the he has been, but I strongley believe he can be a rocker just not the way Simmons thinks a rocker should be. I like Kris and his vibe, but Adam was on a different level. I was always completely thoroughly entertained. AI chose him to close almost every show and he was so original. I am glad he didn’t win b/ now he will get a better contract and more creative control.

I am a conservative Christian Mom of three and i think Adam was robbed. Idol will never see another voice like his. You know everyone tuned in this year just to see what he was going to do. Adam never got into his lifestyle issues on the show and it shouldn’t have been a factor with voting. It was a singing competition, period. I think we can all admit that is why he lost.

I am amazed at all the adoration for Adam Lamberts voice. Quite honestly he is a terrible singer. All he does is scream in falsetto, that isnt singing. He may look and have the presene of a singer but thats it. It was obvious that there was a push for Lambert this season by the producers, and the idiots in the public almost bought it. Kris was a better singer, Danny was the best, but Kris was by far the better of the top two. Perhaps Lambert may fit in best with the Killer Dwarves when they do a reunion, but if Queen takes him on they will ruin their reputation very badly. Next year when Idol is on listen to the show dont watch it, it helps you here the vocals and not be swayed by the performance.

Simmons was right. Adam is a Broadway guy who has some versatility. In that respect, he is like Constantine Maroulis, although Constantine is a more normal person, normal guy, with much more formal training and degrees in music.

Constantine is now up for a Tony award for his Broadway show, written just for him, portraying him as a rock ‘n roller. So he found the ideal way to put his rock aspirations to work combined with his formal musical vocal training in musical theater.

I think the fact that the performance by Kiss with Adam is (at this point in time) #1 at iTunes makes the point of how awesomely talented Adam is no matter what he is performing/singing. In my opinion, Adam improved Kiss. And Gene got it right about picking Adam the one he would put his money behind (and Mr. Simmons seems to very aware of the marketplace).

I think Adam is a brilliant talent and performer. His real test now is can he collaborate with the right people to bring new, original, and compelling music the rock/pop scene. My guess is that he will. I just watched a bunch of his idol performances on DVR and continue to be blown away. As far as Simmons’ opinion I must say that I never liked KISS not even the song “Beth” but, when Adam began singing it I changed my mind. Perhaps Gene said this because he realizes there may be someone better?

I am a ROCK vocal teacher here in NYC and I can tell you flat out – Gene Simmons is WRONG. I love KISS – always have – but Gene is wrong about a lot of things when it comes to Rock ‘n Roll outside of KISS. Adam was probably the most trained singer ever to appear on Idol. The chances he took vocally could have never been attempted by Chris Allen. Chris has a nice voice but its not in the same league as Adam’s. True, Adam has a musical theater background, so what? His voice is so trained he can ANYTHING with it – as he proved time and time again on the show. Funny that Gene said he’d invest in Adam and not Chris. You can’t have it both ways Gene. In Gene’s interview after the show he said Adam could come tour with Kiss ANYTIME. He might not be a metal singer, but I think he could definitely be a Rock singer if he wanted to be. I was listening to his studio verson of Whole Lotta Love and he DEFINITELY had that ‘Edge’ to his voice…you might not even know it was him singing…he CAN singe Rock or whatever he wants to and it would be perfection…now the big question is, WHAT DOES ADAM WANT TO SING? I LOVE him on the ballads and stuff though. I think that might have actually been a COMPLIMENT from Gene because quite a few Rock singers have to have a lot of loud music and screaming to make them sound good–Adam can sing the hard, rough stuff and also the softer controlled stuff…with music backing him or not. Few people can say that. He’s MORE than a ROCK singer but if he wanted to be JUST a Rock singer, he’d be AMAZING at it…and I’m a Rock N’ Roll fan through and through! ROCK ON ADAM….oh, and I LIVE for the day of getting to see Adam with QUEEN in concert!!!

Adam didn’t win because he was a man without a state. Individual Californians voted for him, but as a whole they did not stand by their man. unlike plenty of you on here,I am old enough to remember Kiss in their heyday. Don’t get me wrong, I hated Kiss and jubilated like a MF when the real deal came on the scene in ‘78. Adam should just make his own record by himself! Im sure it was exciting to perform with KISS on Idol but that should be the end of their doing anything together. Working with Queen on a few things I could see, but no full time thing. Adam is so good by himself, if he gets the right direction he could be phenomenal!

I think we might read too much into what Gene Simmons said. From all I saw, Kiss is Adam’s fan and were disappointed when hearing Kris won. Gene said Adam can join them on their tour any time and Adam said he would like to do it. I was excited by their performance together and would love to see them share the stage again. It’ll be a win-win situation for everyone.

Adam made KISS sound like they did when they were YOUNG (and then some!) – Gene Simmons should be offering Adam a job! Personally, I think Adam is better than KISS or Queen. The media is only reporting the “juicy” stuff, as usual. genesimmons.com has more than one letter regarding Lambert on the site. Gene also calls Lambert a “great” singer and yes, states Lambert will be a success, but Simmons also states Lambert’s voice would probably suit a band like Queen better as opposed to Kiss. When asked if he was to invest money in either Kris or Adam, he chose Adam. 3 seperate letters with unequal media coverage. It’s kinda sad.

I bought the KISS album from the AI finale JUST for the intro by Adam. Never bought a KISS recording in my life, but “Beth” by Adam is one beautiful song. He doesn’t need KISS or Queen. He’s already a star, in my opinion. He should do his own thing.

Adam is definitely not a “kiss” sort-of guy, and he can sing his butt off. Another thing the Kiss crew lack. Adam is a bit on the theatric side for sure due to his background. Those theatrics help make him unique, help give him what makes him him, love it or hate it. I’m pretty sure he’ll be the stand-out of this years bunch with total sales and awards as time goes on. I would love to see him work with Queen, maybe tour and record some work while working on his own thing. I listened and compared some of what I heard to Freddy Mercury (whom is theatrical) and I’m pretty sure Adam had a clearer, cleaner voice fit for those songs. So he’s not the stereo typical “tuff guy – edgy rocker” he’ll find his place and I’ll enjoy him wherever his talent leads him.

Not all rock songs are alike. Adam sounded a bit off with Kiss and Led Zeppelin, but was damn good with Queen.

I can’t get over this. If you DVR’d the show, listen to Gene Simmons singing his own song, and listen to Adam Lambert singing it side by side and Adam blew Gene Simmons off of the stage. Gene Simmons was flat as in off key, the quality of his voice was horrible, and Adam sounded like a Rock God. No matter what style of music you throw at Adam he aces it. This guy has the widest range in his voice and ability to sing a wide range of styles. He was clearly the Idol winner, I can’t help but think that George Bush, I mean Fox News, I mean Fox broadcasting threw this contest. I couldn’t get through to vote for Adam for an hour, it kept being busy. Finally an hour and a half later I got through. Just how many lines were open for Adam, and how many were open for Chris. If you look at the MSN question of who won the contest, was it Kris Allen or Adam Lambert got robbed, 54% said Adam Lambert got robbed, and over 300,000 people voted/participated in the question. Sounds like someone rigging an election by selectively limiting the number of ballots in the polling places in Florida???
Here is the bottom line. All great icons, those at the level of an Adam Lambert were persecuted such as Elvis Presley was banned from TV, and finally allowed to appear on Ed Sullivan because he agreed to not swivel his hips, but he did anyhow so they only showed him from the waist up. He also was supposed to destroy America with his new Rock and Roll. The Beatles had long hair, were considered hippies, and would supposedly destroy America’s youth. I think the injustice of this decision will only launch Adam even farther. Listen to Adam, and listen to Kris, and mind you, I think Kris is great and a super star in his own right, not to take anything away from Kris, but Adam is someone who does more than just sing a perfect pitch, and mechanical song, he elevates the art to a whole new level that rocks you, tingles you, gives you goose bumps, he is what legends are made of. No one takes Gene Simmons serioulsy except Gene Simmons….Kiss was a joke when they came out and even worse now…Gene and the rest of the band have very little musical talent…I never seek them out for opinions.

Gene may have a point – Adam fans need not be offended. I think Gene in actually pointing to a truth – Adam has been selling more on ITunes where he uses his controlled voice and doesn’t go too crazy with the high register stuff. (eg. Mad World, Track, A Change etc) Adam is a smart – he will adapt and flow as the market shows him what they like.

I’m a HUGE HUGE HUGE Adam fan. And up to a certain level, I’ve gotta agree to Simmons. If you listen carefully, Adam does have a rock voice but it’s not that typical aggressive, punched rock style.He seemed extremely good because he didn’t have any strong competition between the other contestants in this genre.So, he may have seemed like our ROCK-GOD but in KISS’s level, maybe Adam might not have seemed superior. In my point of view,he will do well in rock genre but he wouldn’t go far. He’s more of the punk-rock/glam-rock guy. He will do much better in the current ballads and the Lady GaGa style.Anyhow, he has good voice and will do well no matter what. If Gene Simmons doesn’t think Adam can sing rock, maybe it is time for his retirement. Adam can sing anything he wants to!! IMO Adam can definitely sing Rock! Adam is a chameleon and loves to change things up, so Gene Simmons has his opinion and I have mine. I’m 54 and to me Adam is the most amazing talent to have come around in decades! Sorry Gene, but it’s true! Love Adam’s high register, it is music to my ears! I am behind Adam all the way no matter what he sings! Fan for life here!

I’m a staunch Adam Lambert fan and can’t wait for his first album. But I agree with Gene Simmons that Adam isn’t a “rocker”, not in the sense of the hard core rocker persona that is part and parcel of classic hard rock. Voice wise, I think he could easily cut it, but he belongs to today’s rock, not the rock of yesterday. Adam is no Freddie, either, nor does he need to be compared to him. He’s a creative exciting singer, he’s young and dynamic, and he has huge stage presence and crowd power. If the big guns want to collaborate with him or mentor him on his journey, good for them. And as for suggesting he’s suited for Broadway, that’s long been the old fashioned cliche for handling artists who don’t fit genre boxes. Adam’s ever growing worldwide fans don’t want to see him on Broadway. They want him to put out albums and play concerts. It’s obvious that this is going to be the only opinion that is going to count.

Your reaction is so telling..you are afraid of Adam because he so much better than you will ever be. He does not need a costume to be an true artist!

Okay here is what I have to say. I think people will either love Adam or just plain not like his voice. To all those who don’t like Adams voice have you really listened to it objectively Adam definitely can sing Rock music or anything he puts his mind to. I have never wanted to buy any american Idol music except Adam and CHRIS Dautry. In my opinion Adam made KISS sound so much better than they ever did and he definitely rocked with QUEEN ON AI. I Can;t Wait for Adam to put out his first album I will buy it. I already downloaded some of his songs off of I tunes. I just can’t seem to decide between the band best remembered for their complex yet catchy songs and dramatic lead singer or the one known for their makeup, rudimentary songs, and hysterically bad lyrics (”you see what my fingers can do, and you wish they were doing it to you?” What? Did you guys ghost write Sex Farm?)? I think none of these conversations really matter unless Lambert is got real talent musically beyond posture and vocals. If he does, his un-rock voice we’ll be all the more rock the way Mercury on Night at the Opera and Bowie on Hunky Dory seem so now in retrospect. By the way, he obviously seems born to lead a more theatric metal band. Let’s think Mercury fronting GnR. Now tell me, is that not one of the most awesome band mix ups? That album wouldnt even need great songs to be a kick in the crotch. I mean the Darkness were like Mercury and a metal knock off with so-so tunes, and they were one of the best rock bands this decade.

Simmons may be an asshole (and proudly so), but he’s absolutely right on this. Rock and pop are not interchangeable. Lambert has some powerful pipes, but expresses nothing, and that’s not rock & roll. He’s a technician, well-suited to show tunes and manufactured pop,a nd good for him. But great rock music has an edge to it, and great rock & roll reveals something profound about the performer. KISS only has a small handful of decent rock songs themselves, but Simmons at least knows it when he hears it.

I wasn’t going to waste any of my time reading the asinine and ridiculous comments that the majority of people wrote on here.

Firstly, anyone who couldn’t spell, use grammar and punctuate properly, should have had their comment deleted. Secondly, anyone who claimed to know that Adam Lambert is an amazing vocalist and could be an incredible “artist” after only seeing him on American Idol for only a few months, should have had their comment deleted as well. You all missed the point…once again!

KISS is an incredibly original band that no other band in the history of the world can claim to be. They started something that dozens upon dozens of current bands credit in hundreds of interviews of these same bands. Time after time, bands have credited that KISS got them into music and inspired them to become a rock star. Not only has KISS been writing their own material since their conception, but they’ve been performing in one way or another for 37 years and have sold over 100 million records.

Let’s all sit back and “enjoy” the career of Adam Lambert and see if he’s around 37 years from now and count just how many millions of records he has sold. Gene Simmons is currently worth over $280 millions dollars because of the wise and clever decisions he has made in marketing KISS’s products and music.

Lastly, let’s all remember that KISS are not musicians, according to Gene Simmons, they’re entertainers. At least he has the intelligence to admit that. Adam Lambert is clearly a case of hype over talent and money over music.

It’s my belief that long after Adam’s career is over, KISS will still be active in some way, shape, form or fashion in the music industry…count on it!

Seriously, I think the bias towards an Adam win was embarrassing. It was exciting over a song or two but this constant need to hit those Mariah notes is just too theatrical. Rock Singer? Don’t think so. He’s so packaged it’s almost unbelievable they didn’t give him the prize at the start. He’s good but a tad repetitive. Gorkey is a singer. A brilliant one but hey no stylist, eyeliner…. Adam’s sexual preferences might have lost him the title (wasn’t this known way before the finals anyway) but it could also be that we just knew he was going to do waht he did.

If anyone has seriously been paying attention to Adam Lambert, they’d know that his talents already extend far beyond American Idol. Have you not heard his interesting and unique songs “Pop, Pop Goes the Camera” and “Crawl Thru Fire,” which he co-wrote; watched his performance of “Is Anybody Listening” from Ten Commandments; seen his clips from Wicked or the many other stage products in which he has appeared!??? Adam would make an amazing rock star, or anything else he decides to try. Sure he can have that screechy quality to his voice when he so chooses, but he also has a beautiful quality and tone when he’s really singing. Personally, I’d loved to see his first album be all his AI performances along with his own two songs above. I’d also rather see a collaboration between he and Allison Iraheta, and see him avoid involvement with any entity which my limit his creativity and outstanding abilities. I believe he will surpass any other entertainer of our time, and become even more iconic than Elvis Presley. Agree with me or don’t, it’s my opinion.

adam can sing almost anything. he has a wide range. a rock voice doesn’t have to be rough it can be soft, but adam can definitley sing loud, but his vouice isn’t a rough rock voice but he can sing rock. no doubt in my mind.

Popularity contests do not prove that you have talent. It’s kind of like the Grammy’s…the best musicians never win. It’s all based on record sales. That boils down to PR not talent. Anyone in their right mind knows that a Rock Musician has a lot more talent than a Pop Artist. They also tour a lot more. So many Pop Artist lip sync when they go on tour because they cannot hang touring for a year or longer. Real musicians never sacrifice their integrity or sell out for the mighty dollar. They stick to their guns and make the label come to them and then negotiate a deal that is worth their time.

Wow, turning into some war over here. I guess Gene, high over the fab performance at AI, spoke too soon about taking Adam along for the tour. And on his blog, after probably 1000’s of letters from glamberts wanting his reassurance of how great Adam is, got a little pissed off and was a little cranky. Eventhough i personally couldn’t read anything negative in his comment. Fact is; kiss alone would have blown the roof off the place. Adam alone too.

I just want to say here, adam lambert is the best thing that happened in American Idol. He was able to arouse the interest of viewers notonly from america but also in the whole world.

One thing to add…
My family and I get together every week for “Idol Night” and we are not spring chickens if you catch my drift. However, every single week the one thing we eagerly awaited was watching Adam turn whatever song he sang into something absolutely incredible!!

His comment bothered me a bit, but Gene also said “What a powerful and attractive man he is” so I know he DOES get Adam’s magic.

My 3 favorite american idol contestants were ADam, Danny, and Scott. I’ve always been a fan of Adam’s. He knows how to take a song and make it his own and he knows how to intertain people and that’s why I think he should’ve won American Idol. I’ve been singing since I was 4 which makes almost 17 years of singing and I would love to audition for american idol. I’m visually impaired but so was scott and he was on the show for a while and he inspired me. You were awesome scott! And Adam I was thinking about this song Jube Box Hero from Foreigner I think you would be great at that song and I just wanted to let you know. I think Adam should’ve won. He is very talented and knows how to take a song and make it his own. When I heard him perform I just want to get up and dance like there’s no tomorrow. Yeah, well all I can say is that I have NEVER paid for any Kiss music whatsoever, but I will stand in line for hours if need be to get my hands on Adam’s new CD! KISS has been around for 26 years and they are one of the most successful American Hard Rock Bands that has ever played. They are known World Wide and they have sold millions of records. They have played with the make-up on and without the make-up and it made no difference- they were still successful..!!

Their elaborate stage show was so ahead of their time that they raised the bar for every band that came after them. “Beth” is still their biggest hit to date. It is a beautiful piece of music complete with orchestral arrangement.

A KISS Show is the ultimate experience. There is nothing that even compares. If you’ve never seen them live, then you better check it out at least once, so that you can have an opinion as to whether it kicked ass or not..!!

I can guarantee you that you will walk away wanting more..!!

KISS is certainly not for everybody..!! You have to feel it in your blood and feel the raw energy that moves your core. If you don’t get it, that’s ok- just be yourself and find something that you do like and connect with it but don’t be an ignorant fool and put something down that you don’t understand.

The power of Rock N’ Roll is an unexplainable phenomena. KISS represented a rebellious attitude that did not conform to society’s norm.

These two kids on American Idol look like a bunch of dorks. No charismatic quality at all. Anyone can sound good singing other people’s material. The true test of a real vocalist is when they write their own songs and lyrics and they become successful by what they have created- not by what others have created.

I don’t think that either of these two kids are disciplined enough to handle the rigors of fame and being on the road for a long period of time. It’s a hard job to sound good day in and day out. It’s really not as glamorous as people think it is….it’s hard work..!!

Gene Simmons sounded AWFUL singing at the Idol finale. How did he ever become a singer in a band in the first place? Wasnt Kiss the first band ever to be called sell-outs?

The KISS / Lambert part of the finale was the best! I still like Kris better, but that was a great performance. I did start having flashbacks of my Sister making me go see KISS in concert back in 1978. Yes, they were pretty unbeleiveable – but my ears rang for 3 days and I got sick from the pot smoke. We barely survived the “General Admission” seating they had back then, but we were right up front at the concert. For the record, our tickets cost around 10 bucks!! It was fun to watch them on American Idol and I thought Adam was great with them. If Gene Simmons really said that, it’s probably because his ears are still ringing from the 70s.

Gene made a contradictory remark when he said Adam’s voice doesn’t have the ‘rock’ quality and that he’d do better sticking to ballads and Broadway shows especially after he expressed succinctly, between Kris and Adam, he’d throw his money behind Adam in building his career. Adam’s sound is very versatile, with vigorous power and depth to the tone in his voice, coupled with a gifted creativity in making a song his own, which is difficult to do especially when you are singing or playing somebody else’s song. Did Gene listen carefully to Adam’s version of…..Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin? Respectfully, when you are performing someone else’s music, lyrically or instrumentally, no one, no matter how great they are can really give that song justice the way the ‘original’ owner can. Although, Adam is very versed in stage performance and familiar in attracting and capturing his audience, he’s also a showman and would be familiar in performing with minimal instruction, but I’m not sure whether he plays any musical instruments. This would be an asset to him if he does…..I thank the legendary KISS front man…..Gene Simmons… for his input because I’m sure he can offer a lot of good, sound, concrete advice to our up and coming new performers! The American Idol show that night was probably the best I had ever seen! Congratulations to all the top 10 performers!

How do you define “rock quality” in a voice, anyway? Almost every rocker I can think of has his or her own unique sound.

I love kiss have been a huge fan for 30 years. Gene is a very smart man. I think Adam does have the voice to be the rocker he sounded amazing with kiss. But he is very theatrical. I think Adam has to much of a wide variety of music just to define himself as a rocker and I believe Gene saw this and that is what he meant by his comment.

I personally think Adam is better doing rock over ballads. He said rock week was his favorite theme week and he loved working with Slash. One gravitates to what one does best. I think he complemented Gene’s and Paul’s vocals when he sang with Kiss- rounded it out their vocals with a higher register- he sounded great. I must say however that when I heard the first line he did of We Are The Champions–” And Bad Mistakes, I’ve made a few” it made my jaw drop. Absolutely brilliant voice. Love him. Voice , looks and style to boot. Can’t get enough of this guy.

All I can say about Gene Simmons comment is: Did he SEE Adam perform “Whole Lotta Love” Or “Cryin” ??? Geez, that long last note on “Cryin” alone would give Gene a hernia if he even tried it ! Adam has a LOT of power behind his voice, and Gene has NEVER had that same type of power. This is from someone who has seen three of their concerts. KISS know how to entertain a crowd, but they don’t have the technical voice power Adam does.

I think I might get what Gene Simmons is saying, although I don’t agree with it fully. I agree with the part that Adam is not a rock singer. I believe I read somewhere these comments Gene Simmons made were backstage following the American Idol finale. After dissing Adam, Paul Stanley told Gene to shut up. Shortly after that, I read a much more positive Adam review from Gene, where he said Adam was welcome to join them any time. Could it be Gene realized he was suffering from foot-in-mouth disease and was doing a little damage control?

If Gene is comparing Adam to singers in the sub-genre of rock that KISS is in, then Gene is right, Adam isn’t really that kind of rock singer, but Adam could definitely be a rock singer for other sub-genres of rock. A lot of his pre-Idol stuff was rock, he fronted the rock band Citizen Vein, and of course rocked out on Crawl Thru Fire and Black Dog in The Zodiac Show. During Idol, he totally rocked out a lot but with different other styles infused into the rock.

Gene, really? I WAS a fan of your TV show, because the show really opened up eyes about “rockers”. I’ve always associated rockers with drugs, STD’s and the like … but your show showed me a rock star (Gene) and what a nice man, father and boyfriend (you should really make things right with Shannon … she’s a GREAT lady.) The comments that Gene made about Adam were uncalled for. Adam held his own up there and made Kiss look good. As far as Adam and Chris goes they are both very different people. As a former member of the KISS Army, I was thrilled to see them on the finale, but Adam ROCKED THE HOUSE!! I like Gene but maybe there’s a little jealously or something since Adam took over the stage. Adam is a rock singer, a ballad singer, an opera singer, a Broadway singer. He can do anything he wants to do and I can’t wait to see what is in store for him.

Ok….I am a MOM of 5 girls….and I absolutely LOVE Adam. I grew up with KISS and many, many other rock bands. I’m not OLD, but I’m not a tween, either. I don’t care if Adam is gay….except it’s sad for the ladies…the guys are lucky! I think Adam is gorgeous, talented…and he has incredible stage presence….he’s amazing. Gene is just old and tired. Gene later explained this. He said Adam was more suited for Queen. He said that they should ask Adam to be their new lead singer. I am a huge fan of Freddie Mercury, and there has never been anyone I think could ever replace him until now. You never know about these things. Adam actually made KISS sound better to me! His voice and his physical appearance gave them a little bit of class and made them far more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes and ears. When I heard he was going to sing ‘Satisfaction’on Idol- I must admit I only watched to rubberneck- so sure was I that it would be at best karaoke. No one can out-innovate the Stones Man. Well- I gotta tell ya- having dessert while watching was probably not the best idea I never quite got that spoonful of ice cream into my gaping mouth and by the time the song was over the liquid ice cream began to drip! He made it his own- skillfully- he did not copy the Stones- He seemed to have a feeling about the song- and seemed he wanted to convey that feeling (I kinda got the feeling he was saying ‘Give me some good lovin’but well he has a knack for seeming to convey those kinds of feelings:-) and he looked like he had a ton of fun!
