Exclusive: Queen’s Brian May Addresses Adam Lambert Rumors

After Adam Lambert’s killer performance with Queen on Wednesday night’s season finale of American Idol, rumors flew that he had already been offered a job singing with the band. That’s slightly premature, according to the band’s guitarist, Brian May. “Amongst all that furor, there wasn’t really a quiet moment to talk,” May tells Rolling Stone in an e-mail interview. “But [drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy. But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.”

May, whose band recently ended a four-year-long partnership with singer Paul Rodgers, is comfortable with Idol as a launching point for the careers of rock singers. “You’d have to define ‘legitimate’ first,” he writes. “The long-term answer has to be that, if you have enough talent and enough will to succeed, you will get there by whatever route presents itself. Once you have scaled the castle walls, with the sword in your hand, it matters little how you got there. I’ve not always been positive about shows like this, but there is no doubt that it offers a door to some real genuine talent along the way.”

“Both those boys are well worthy of big success,” May continues, in regard to Lambert and Idol winner Kris Allen. “So it’s pointless for someone like me to stand on the sidelines jeering. I’m confident Adam will make great use of this wonderful opportunity. I hope I’m there to see it.”

Yeah, totally called this. Adam looked at home with Brian and the rest of the band.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 5:35 pm EST

Yeah, you were the first one to call it, Evan!

Ha!

raisedlefteyebrow | 5/22/2009, 5:49 pm EST

Don’t you dare! Didn’t Paul Rodgers do enough damage? Either pack it in or get Mika. Freddie is rolling in his grave.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 6:02 pm EST

Brian May is 61… How many more tours does ‘Queen’ have left in them anymore?

Time to let it go.

dlt | 5/22/2009, 6:04 pm EST

Brian May’s still got his seventies hair. But, like Curtis Mayfield said, Fred is dead

Margaret | 5/22/2009, 6:04 pm EST

Brian May’s comments brought tears of joy to my eyes. I’ve been so sad about Adam losing AI because of frenetic finger flexing. Queen is the greatest rock band of all time, and Brian May’s opinion means more to me than the AI title.

Alex | 5/22/2009, 6:06 pm EST

Grat!!! The best idea ever!!! i always though there will never be another Freddie after Freddie, but there you are ADAM LAMBERT is fabilous!!! I instantly though he would be ever so good as a fronman of QUEEN and FReddie would love him!!! GO FOR IT PLEASEEEEEE

Jenn | 5/22/2009, 6:07 pm EST

totally should not do it. he’s his own person and should make his own music-he not freddie reincarnated. hope he has better since than that

nnn | 5/22/2009, 6:17 pm EST

I would love to see adam perform with queen but not be part of queen. I want adam to do his own thing. Maybe they can make a band and find a different name and songs. I loved the song they did at the show. Adama really was shining.

tw123 | 5/22/2009, 6:20 pm EST

Great!!! I can’t wait for the concert.

Black Hole Sun | 5/22/2009, 6:21 pm EST

Oh boy…

Chuckio | 5/22/2009, 6:21 pm EST

Uh Oh. I guess Brian hasn’t reod on Freddie’s grave enough.

TWEETS | 5/22/2009, 6:25 pm EST

BETTER MAY THAN SIMMONS. QUEEN ROCKS BETTER THAN KISS.

Tony | 5/22/2009, 6:31 pm EST

I thought they sounded great together. Adam has a great voice. I have been a HUGE Queen fan my entire life. I would definitely buy a ticket to see them together as well as buy any CDs they might make. This would be great!

Adam Fantard | 5/22/2009, 6:37 pm EST

Thank you, Rolling Stone. I needed this…Always loved Brian. I love him even more, now.

Anna | 5/22/2009, 6:41 pm EST

I certainly don’t think Adam should (or would) do this instead of a solo career, but I could see him doing a tour, or at least a few benefit concerts, with Queen. HUGE compliment though from Brian May. I think Freddie would love Adam.

Rustoid | 5/22/2009, 6:42 pm EST

Go listen to the crap on Adam’s myspace page and tell me he wouldn’t be better off fronting queen for a couple of years.

kev | 5/22/2009, 6:45 pm EST

mika you must be deaf, paul rodgers,
great rock singer, on his own or with free, adam is a great singer, a bit like darren hayes, freddie was at one with queen, its a hard act to follow, as freddie would find it hard to fill paul rodgers shoes with free, but each to his own, but mika?
he is shite

Amy | 5/22/2009, 6:49 pm EST

God, I friggin love Adam Lambert. I had been waiting and hoping for him to do that song for weeks. What an instrument indeed…… and he’s freakin’ gorgeous as well.

Lexy | 5/22/2009, 6:51 pm EST

Totally, yes, yes ,yes, 100%!!! Who cares about winning a stupid title let Kris entertain Americans and please please let Adam come to us-uk!!! Ta ta

Wonder Woman | 5/22/2009, 7:03 pm EST

I think Adam would be great making a CD with Queen and going on tour but nothing permanent. Queen is my all time favorite band and Adam is freaking amazing but no one can replace Freddie Mercury. Besides Adam needs to grow as an artist on his own. He has so much talent. I can’t wait to see what he does next.

mADAMoiselle | 5/22/2009, 7:20 pm EST

As both a big Freddie, Queen and now Adam fan – I absolutely adored seeing Adam singing with Queen this week! Of course Adam is not Freddie – no one will ever be Freddie – but he is Adam, looks and sings great and was totally in his element on that stage with Queen. I would pay money to see Adam perform with Queen and I would also pay for any records that they chose to put out together. I am also looking forward to Adam’s debut solo effort as well. Loved every minute of it and am loving the idea of them working together in some capacity. What an amazing compliment to Adam from Brian May. He is the true winner going forward.

Parry | 5/22/2009, 7:24 pm EST

Not a big idol fan. But Adam was amazing, but Mercury will always be Queen.Brian May could really give him alot of help I’m sure.My kids had never seen Kiss,so that really was cool.Adam is the best out of that show yet!

Rose | 5/22/2009, 7:25 pm EST

i hope Queen and Adam do a cd!

…but i don’t really want that to be his only success. I hope he does a bunch of stuff in independent format:] i can’t wait to hear Ryan Seacrest
say,”(blank)is your # 1 hit in America, by Adam Lambert,” in that silly over-dramatic voice on the top 40 count down. YAY!
I can hear it now – it’s in the VERY near future ^_^

db in Ct | 5/22/2009, 7:33 pm EST

Adam threw his own twist on “We Will Rock You”…that’s when Brian May gave him that smile in the pic above. He channeled Freddie…but still wasn’t afraid to sing the song his way (with considerable restraint as well, to accommodate his friend Kris Allen).

I say one year-long worldwide tour to sold-out stadiums in honor of the songs Queen made iconic. There’s no doubt Freddie would be front row and proud…

Duchess | 5/22/2009, 7:36 pm EST

I am also a huge Queen fan.
I spent some time last night listening to Freddie, then listening to Adam.
Both has got tremendous and very distinct voices.
I would love to hear Queen and Adam do some sets together.

Imp | 5/22/2009, 7:40 pm EST

tweets needs to stop trying to impress us with non-understanding of true, REAL DEAL rock and roll.

johanna | 5/22/2009, 7:41 pm EST

I love Queen and what may help the pondering: the KISS video with Adam is the SMASHING SUCCESS on Youtube!

bijou | 5/22/2009, 8:07 pm EST

First Brian says he collaborated with Paul Rodgers because he wasn’t anything like Freddie, and replacing Freddie with a sound-alike would be disrespectful. Now he’s seeking out a Freddie-wannabee?! I’m losing all respect for Mr. May and Mr. Taylor.

Queen Fan (former) | 5/22/2009, 8:12 pm EST

I know what you mean, Bijou. Years ago, Roger Taylor wrote a scathing song Dear Mr. Murdoch. And now he not only appears on the show TWICE, he wants to take one Mr. Murdoch’s own into his fold so both he and Murdoch profit. I’ve lost all respect for them, too.

basser | 5/22/2009, 8:12 pm EST

I can’t believe Adam Lambert, the Idol runner-up (not winner, Rolling Stone) is the top news item now. So now we get our serious artists from reality TV shows? Wow, times have changed. I’ve never seen Big Media (Rolling Stone leading the parade) get behind an American Idol contestant like this. What is the world coming to? Adam has talent, but people are treating him like he’s an Obama-type messiah. Kinda scarey.

Ana | 5/22/2009, 8:14 pm EST

This is almost as bad as that Robbie Williams collaboration.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 8:19 pm EST

I forgot about that Murdoch song. He wrote it because of what Murdoch’s tabloids did to Freddie in his last days. And yes, I remember reading over and over how terrible they thought it would be to replace Freddie with a sound-alike. Somewhere Freddie must be so sad…some mates!

Brian M. | 5/22/2009, 8:20 pm EST

I don’t want to hear any of this. If Brian and Roger muddy the Queen name with this clown I can’t imagine “real” Queen fans will take too well to it. Lord help us!

Cj | 5/22/2009, 8:26 pm EST

WOW!!! NOW you see the $$$ signs in the Queen survivors eyes! Boy, nothing gets by you!!

Eva | 5/22/2009, 8:28 pm EST

Take two:

Brian M,.

I am a real Queen fan. Seen Freddy live (R.I.P.) more than once. I would pay good money to see Lambert with them. So speak for yourself, only.

angie | 5/22/2009, 8:29 pm EST

Been a Queen fan for 35 years and have everything Queen released. I’m so with you Brian M. What’s wrong with these two?

Adam (not Lambert!) | 5/22/2009, 8:33 pm EST

It seems like they’ll stop at nothing to ruin their musical legacy. Truly not in touch with their long-standing fans.

Gilbert | 5/22/2009, 8:41 pm EST

HUGE Queen Fan here,
but, Freddie is dead, alright?
This guy Lambert has the most
powerful voice I have heard
in a looong time.

MKW | 5/22/2009, 8:43 pm EST

I am not sure what all of you “die hard” Queen fans expect the surviving members of the band to do. These guys were one of the best bands ever, and I am not sure if you all have heard, but Freddy Mercury is still dead. There is nothing any of you whiners can do about it. If Queen can work with someone with the caliber of Adam Lambert, along with his own set of successes, then I think it could be great. Oh, and by the way, I am huge “die hard” Queen fan, but as I said, Freddy is dead, should the rest of them disappear too? Wouldn’t that be a tragedy?

Max | 5/22/2009, 8:43 pm EST

Oh by the way, it just came to me…To those who think the Kris vs Adam finale was a battle between blue state and red state, you are wrong. Check out Arkansas. The governor is from the Democratic party, the senators are Democrats, three congressmen (including the one representing the region where Conway belongs) are also Democrats. Arkansas has only one Republican congressman.

Trish | 5/22/2009, 8:47 pm EST

Adam- go it alone. You’ll be a great star. (My two cents!!!)
Nice job on Idol, by the way.

Trish | 5/22/2009, 8:48 pm EST

MKW- you make a good point. Adam- do what you want!

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 8:49 pm EST

I’m a huge Queen fan, too. Been to two concerts and have all their records. I’m disheartened that they have done a 180 after all the “Paul isn’t trying to be Freddie…we wouldn’t do this if he was” crap. And don’t get me started on the Rupert Murdoch connection (see Roger Taylor’s Happiness record). My musical idols, it seems, have no integrity.

kathie | 5/22/2009, 9:01 pm EST

There seems to ba some conflict as to what Gene Simmons said because there are many articles that stated that he told Adam that he could tour with them anytime. I would ten to believe that more..

DuplinPrint | 5/22/2009, 9:07 pm EST

I always felt that if their were anyone that could be a replacement for Freddy would be a woman. The band should have its Queen.

glambert! | 5/22/2009, 9:09 pm EST

i love adam [if u cant tell i am a glambert] and i am a huge queen fan, but no one can replace freddie. but if he worked w/ brian and roger it would be ADAMAZING

Gen | 5/22/2009, 9:17 pm EST

Why not see it as bringing Adam in and mentoring him into the real world beyond AI? It would be advantageous to both, a new generation exposed to great music and providing Adam with some actual legitimacy beyond Idol. Adam will never replace Freddie but he could learn a lot to promote his own independent career.

Tony | 5/22/2009, 9:32 pm EST

I never would have thought I could get behind any one singing Freddie’s songs. Been to 3 concerts – NATO 2/76, DATR 1/77 and NOTW 12/77. Didn’t care for PR, am glad they parted ways. I don’t agree with having this Lambert kid front the band completely but I do think a collaboration would be great. As long as he changes it up a bit like he did the other night I could get behind that. As a TRUE Queen fan I would never question the decision of May and Taylor. This is their namesake they are dealing with and they have every right to decide what direction they want to go in. Besides, I would take Lambert over PR any day.

AI is a scripted show | 5/22/2009, 9:33 pm EST

Many of you are forgetting that Adam has a contract with AI and won’t be able to do anything with Queen until he’s out of his AI contract.

Anna | 5/22/2009, 9:41 pm EST

This whole AI thing goes against everything the remaining members of Queen have been saying for years in so many ways. Hope it never happens.

ed | 5/22/2009, 9:46 pm EST

Funny, I was OK with the Paul Rodgers thing cuz it was taking the music to different places. This reeks of a tribute band.

phks | 5/22/2009, 10:08 pm EST

some bands would not consider Daughtry ROCK either….but there are those that do….

define ROCK

kinda hard ain’t it…..

Tony | 5/22/2009, 10:20 pm EST

May/Taylor/Rodgers did take the music in a different direction – away from the original sound of Queen. Evidently May hears something in this kid that sounds promising and who are we to diss that? His own words: “But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.” Maybe he has in mind to write something new that this kid could sing that is more reminiscent of the Queen sound. The kid could never replace Freddie, no one can but with May/Taylor taking him under their wing and helping him to refine his voice a bit they could help to give the next generation their own version of Freddie – even though he could never replace ours. I say “go for it” if this is what they have in mind. Leave your stamp on the next generation, an influence of Queen will live on for another 40 years. At least it would be infinitely better to listen to then this current drab pop crap.

Imp | 5/22/2009, 10:26 pm EST

Brian May hears something alright. It sounds like this…CHA-CHING!!!

Tracy | 5/22/2009, 10:33 pm EST

Awesome!!!!!!! Brian and Adam I am behind you all 110 percent. Finally someone like Adam would give Queen a proper send off before the band really retires.

Ron | 5/22/2009, 10:35 pm EST

Appropriate replacement for Freddy.

Sam | 5/22/2009, 10:38 pm EST

I wish people would stop posting what is already known. Of course nobody will be able to replace Freddie. That’s obvious. What do you expect them do? Never play again?Freddie would want Queen to play and spread his music forever. Paul Rodgers had no charisma to go along with his vocals. Adam is the best of both worlds. I am all for it

anon | 5/22/2009, 10:58 pm EST

Adam and Queen would be a great match. Queen has such a great body of work; Adam could do a few songs, or even a tour and then do a solo album. Also a better fit than Kiss, I guess Gene Simmons prefers a gravelly sound?! where as Adam and Freddy are sort of the prettier side of rock, if that makes sense. Also, I went to highschool in the 90s, and the cool, older kids listed to Queen and Led Zep. We were forced to listen to it on the school bus, haha. Anyway, it’s good stuff, it’s not outdated, it’s pretty timeless …

Tim | 5/22/2009, 11:13 pm EST

I think as a whole Adam would benefit on having a mentor such as May and Rodgers to bring him into the rock arena side of things. Adam will have a long career and honestly it does not matter whether it’s one set, cd or even tour. This could be the thing both needs right now. I am glad the option is even out on the table. I think in the end everyone can agree that Brian May and he has great respect from every type of music fan.

CJ | 5/22/2009, 11:36 pm EST

Not crazy about Adam Lambert but more importantly, I don’t want to see Queen become a parody of themselves.

dlt | 5/22/2009, 11:42 pm EST

Maybe Curtis Mayfield is wrong, Fred ain’t dead

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 11:42 pm EST

Why does wanting to work with Adam mean wanting him to front Queen? Jumping to conclusions.

Mary | 5/22/2009, 11:48 pm EST

That was an audition of Adam or Queen would never have been there. They do need a singer. In the next year Adam will be done with Idol an sign with Queen !

SWA | 5/23/2009, 12:09 am EST

Hmm; for Adam’s next stunt, maybe he could petition Jimmy Page to take him aboard the Zeppelin, just to do “How Many More Times”!!!!

Anonymous | 5/23/2009, 12:23 am EST

Never saw American Idol but I think if this guy is as talented as I’m reading, he should go on his own. Why be Freddie’s stand-in and be forever compared? Besides, can two 63 year olds keep up with the energy level of a 27 year old physically or creatively? They’re winding down and he’s starting up…doesn’t seem a good fit. If it were me, I’d take the free mentoring, if that’s what this is about, but I’d draw the line there.

Shelby | 5/23/2009, 12:30 am EST

Yeah, it would be great if Adam did some work with Queen. But ultimately, he needs to do his own thing I think. Adam grew up loving the music of Queen and has said Freddie was one of his favorite artists. So I think in many ways he has already been lessoned by Queen and his music reflects that. Listen to how great he sounded singing “We are the Champions” and that says it all.

Johne | 5/23/2009, 12:35 am EST

Geeze. Let Adam and Brian talk if they want to talk. Don’t slam Adam for wanting to work with Queen or vice versa. Adam can’t do anything for a year anyways. Queen and Adam are equally talented in their own aspect. The story will unfold itself in time..

Jeff | 5/23/2009, 12:41 am EST

I was hoping for this all along, and when I saw Adam singing with Queen Wednesday night, I REALLY believed it could happen. And then Brian May clearly loved what he was experiencing with Adam. I am an old fan of Queen and Freddie. True, no one can replace Freddie, but my God, Adam Lambert would draw people out, including me, and I haven’t been to a rock concert in 20 years. Adam doesn’t have to long-term commit.. just do one tour, one cd, then he goes solo… what a follow-up to the Idol success!

Diana | 5/23/2009, 1:33 am EST

Being 50, I rarely go to concerts anymore. But Adam leading for Queen — man, I wouldn’t miss that!!!

CR1ZZ | 5/23/2009, 2:24 am EST

Fuck anyone who doubts the ability of Adam Lambert. Freddie was the best rock vocalist to grace this earth, not a soul on earth could REPLACE him. This would be the greatest tribute band in history though I can tell you now!
And Adam could out-sing Robert Plant in an instant, but he does’nt have roberts image. Led-Zep is over anyway but let the original members play in that instance. Adam has the glam look, like Mercury.

Kris is the worst thing to happen to music since bret michaels.

doitnow! | 5/23/2009, 2:41 am EST

The first time I heard Adam’s voice I thought, wow, someone to tour with Queen! Can’t wait to see what happens.

Anonymous | 5/23/2009, 2:47 am EST

Freddie is Freddie and I never thought Queen would ever really be Queen again…but, although no one can bring back Freddie’s awesome vocals, Adam is awesome – Bring it on. It can only get better………….

SLB | 5/23/2009, 2:49 am EST

If Queen and Adam get together and come to Pittsburgh – I am there!!!

mia | 5/23/2009, 2:54 am EST

maybe not frontsinger, but they definitely should make some songs or a tour together

Robert | 5/23/2009, 2:54 am EST

Adam with Queen…count this 49 year old in! Love the match, definitely a potential “champion!”

Deborah | 5/23/2009, 3:16 am EST

No doubt Adam is for Queen ….

Success Adam & Queen…Huge Fan of you both…..

Sunny | 5/23/2009, 3:27 am EST

Reading some of Queen’s Fan that are narrow-minded made me feel sick. If you really love Queen, you should let it live on and let the younger generations have the experience on their own.

Or maybe Queen needs a NEW FAN BASE. not some old folks with narrow-minded comments on Adam is not Freddie.. blah blah… that’s yawning, man.

jackflintstone | 5/23/2009, 4:59 am EST

I would love to see Adam do some Queen covers. I haven’t heard anybody do it as well as he did. Freddy wouldn’t be mad; this guy can sing and would do song book justice. Please do some Queen covers Adam! You should have won.

Lucy | 5/23/2009, 6:30 am EST

raisedlefteyebrow
Mika, LOL! Adam has more talent in his eyeliner than Mika has in his entire being.

Anyway, Adam will be spending the next two months doing media promotion (interestingly he is getting the same as the winner – more if you consider that the winner, on the few occasions that he has been interviewed alone, has been asked mostly about Adam), the on the AI tour then recording, the promoting his album, it isn’t likely to be before the beginning of next year that he is able to do anything else.

Mind you, there is nothing to stop him collaborating with Brian and Roger on parts of his album.

Adam working with Queen is something that I have been wanting to see since I first heard him sing those few lines of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Good luck, Adam, You may have lost a battle but you will win the war.

Donna S | 5/23/2009, 6:42 am EST

If they toured I would go, it would be hard to not feel sad for missing Freddie, but is would be a wonderful chance to allow my grown children to experience the music of Queen

Brian May-WAKE UP!

Anonymous | 5/23/2009, 7:31 am EST

What’s happened to music? These comments remind me of what I do all day in Photoshop. Just take out this image and drop in that image because its easier cheaper than photo shoot.

Dan | 5/23/2009, 7:42 am EST

Lets be honest. How many people were put off by the judges comparing the somewhat screechy and kind of weird personally Adam to our most iconic rock heros. I am glad he lost just to shut them up and maybe what the judges did was an injustice to Adam, who even though I wouldn’t want him around kids of mine, didn’t seem like a bad guy. And by the way, Chris has mainstream talent.

Mena | 5/23/2009, 7:57 am EST

Kris won AI fair and square. Hopefully, he will be a hero for young kids. AL will be tne “next” Queen leader. I think the band should be renamed Queen II

Blurred Vision | 5/23/2009, 8:10 am EST

“Dear Mr Murdoch you’re a dangerous chap. With your jingoist lingo we’re drowning in crap.” — taken from a song by Roger Taylor of Queen about Rupert Murdoch, media giant of Fox/AI fame.

jimmy from china | 5/23/2009, 8:58 am EST

adam is NO 1 ,he is world idol not only american !

Jim | 5/23/2009, 8:59 am EST

It was painfully obvious to me early on that Adam was bound to do at least a few shows fronting Queen. He’s an imposing, powerful sounding, and talented singer who will only succeed in a band setting. I’m an old Queen fan from way back and as far as I’m concerned it’s a perfect fit.
Being a front man is a young man’s game.

Chuck | 5/23/2009, 9:06 am EST

As a 50ish Queen fan I would like to see Adam put a different spin on Freddy’s tunes. To try and reproduce FM would be a mistake.

Anonymous | 5/23/2009, 9:19 am EST

Yes, we know Freddy is gone and we will never forget him. Those of us who love Freddy are not looking for a REPLACEMENT for Freddy but Queen needs a lead singer and Adam would do a fabulous job of it. He would not be Freddy, he would be himself, with his own way of things. That’s OK. I’m sure Freddy wouldn’t want his band languishing for the lack of a lead.

Gary | 5/23/2009, 9:39 am EST

As an old rocker myself, the first time I heard Adam I thought, wow, this guy has the range of Freddie! When I saw Queen on Idol, I actually jumped up out of my chair and started singing the tune with them. Adam NEEDS to be in the studio NEW…layering harmonies with HIMSELF to achieve some new FANTASTIC songs with QUEEN!!!

Tulipa181 | 5/23/2009, 9:48 am EST

I can’t stop listening Adam’s part (We are the champions).I hope Adam/Queen get along because Adam is a good match to the Queen.

dlt | 5/23/2009, 9:51 am EST

Patrick B | 5/23/2009, 10:08 am EST

On watching Adams performance with Queen I commented to my wife that he would be a perfect fit for Queen. It might be a great move for Adam to be a part of one of the all time greatest bands. It won’t go on forever obviously and he would still have time for a solo career. I think Mercury would probably be proud.

Anonymous | 5/23/2009, 10:17 am EST

Montserrat Caballes and Freddie back in 87 blew me away! Freddie was 41 back then…Adam Lambert is only in his 20s and it is clear that he will go far! Brian May knows talent and to do the closing song “WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS” showcased Adams vocals, he stood out! You could see how proud Adam was performing with his idols.

I only wish that Adam had done a Queen song for one of the AI theme weeks. And I also wish that instead of duetting with Kris with Queen that he had done it solo.

I consulted the latest charts and didn’t see Queen anywhere. They really are off the charts!
I grew up listening to Queen and they will always be one of the classic rock bands. When I played gigs you had to have a couple of there tunes on the set list. But this is today.
The finale took Queen fans back to a living breathing Queen of old. But reality is that they aren’t going to muster a comeback. Not enough demand.

jay | 5/23/2009, 11:45 am EST

Queen + . Whatever. And I’m no fan of Gene Simmons and Kiss, but he was smart enough to start back away from this Idol thing the very next day.

Linni | 5/23/2009, 12:01 pm EST

When I first heard him sing he reminded me of Freddie Mercury. Seeing him perform with Queen the other night was great. I think he’d be the perfect fit and Freddie would be a fan!

Anonymous | 5/23/2009, 12:06 pm EST

Judging from the comments, it seems like most want this guy to be a replacement for the great Freddie (impossible IMHO). Don’t know much about this guy, but if he’s a serious musician, he won’t do it. Why become a stand-in when you can become a stand out?

gee | 5/23/2009, 12:18 pm EST

freddie would’ve loved him and adam fits in so well

he deserves something huge like this – he should’ve won!

Nefret | 5/23/2009, 12:22 pm EST

Proud of Adam for not discussing his sexual preferences publicly. Prefer him as is in this age of fluid sexuality, where there can be nuanced levels of appeal to both genders. As a straight woman, I find his confidence onstage and his interpretive singing extremely attractive. Have no interest in gay bashers or people who demand to have Lambert’s preferences laid open to judgment.

Gern | 5/23/2009, 12:34 pm EST

A better pairing would be Adam and slash doing guns and roses.”Sweet child o mine” adam-style would be epic.

Larissa | 5/23/2009, 12:38 pm EST

Brian May recognizes the same thing that all of Adam’s fans do — he is a ridiculously gifted singer who can adapt to a variety of genres and make it work. Heck, anybody who can take a Kara DioGuardi hot mess like “No Boudaries” palatable is a vocal alchemist.

Jim | 5/23/2009, 12:48 pm EST

Queen is the type of band that demands a larger than life front man who can sing. It’s all about the show, theatrical, over the top, demanding, and energetic. How many front men are able to do that? I say the show must go on.

Freddie Mercury was larger than life. He also had the good common sense to not live out his personal time in front of the media. What can we say about him now other than he was a great front man and a fine gentleman?

Of course anyone looking to sing with Queen is going to have huge shoes to fill. How many singers can parade around in tights, an ermine stole, carrying a scepter and make it work for them?

I don’t want a replacement Freddie. I want to see a solid front man who can take the stage and not look like he’s just carrying Mercury’s bucket. Lambert can do that as long as he doesn’t take it all too seriously. Queen is not about being self-important.

Marty | 5/23/2009, 12:52 pm EST

That would be totally awesome !!! Queen rules again with Adam Lambert as their lead singer!!!

Thea | 5/23/2009, 12:56 pm EST

Brian had a sincere expression of delight on his face while performing with Adam. Same smile he had during the Freddie Tribute while George Michael was singing Somebody to Love.
I think it must be nice for them to be able to hear their songs performed the way they are supposed to. NOT saying Adam is like Freddie- just saying their voices are comparable, which is not very easy to come by. Anyone who heard Adam sing immediately heard something of Freddie in his voice.

This is a huge, huge compliment coming from Brian, and I hope Adam can make the most of it, maybe even just a collaboration or mentorship.

I’m not sure thqat is true. I know I want Lambert to have a real shot at having some real perfomance cred.. Singing occasionally with a group like Queen would do just that. His fans know he’s paid his dues, but it doen’t go all that far when coming out of “Idol” in in the “real” big-time music scene (i.e. Brian May “jeering” comment).

Stardust | 5/23/2009, 1:46 pm EST

What an amazing performance we were treated to. One of the best I’ve ever seen in my life.

As a long time Queen fan who saw Queen live on their first three American tours in the early 70’s, I was thrilled to see this performance. Just thrilled!

It was great when Adam started singing such a wonderful song, but when I saw Brian May walk out onto the stage so unexpectedly, I started yelling “Queen, Queen!!!!”
I felt like a teenager again.

I mean, QUEEN!!!!!!!!!
It doesn’t get any better than that!

I did not feel that I was seeing Queen “with” Adam Lambert singing. I felt like I was seeing “Queen!” again.
As a whole, as a group. As one.

What a joy it was to see Brian May and Roger Taylor again on stage doing what they love.

Adam was fantastic with them.

I would love to see them become a band together.

I haven’t been to a concert since the ’70s. But, would definitely drive to another state to see Queen perform, and would love to have the joy of watching Mr. Lambert be part of the honored tradition of Queen.

Sue | 5/23/2009, 1:58 pm EST

I grew up listening to Queen, and Freddy. Adam is the closest that could rival Freddy. He was sorely missed, and Adam filled the void this year. Freddy was an operatic tenor. He didn’t have a real heavy weight voice, but one killer falsetto like Adam. You listen to Adam sing all his songs on Idol. He definitely has weight to his voice, but not for really Heavy Metal. There’s different degrees of being loud, and in sound. Adam is more for Classic rock. He wants it Glam, but I think he would do better without the Glam. He’s too beautiful without makeup. Check out his photos on You Tube under Pop Goes the Camera which he wrote BTW. He’s one beautiful dude.

TommyBoy | 5/23/2009, 2:14 pm EST

I’ve said it before, Adam Lambert is unique in the way of Freddy Mercury and David Bowie. There’s no one like him on the scene. He’d be a perfect fit with Queen. A Killer!

kill the industry | 5/23/2009, 2:44 pm EST

I am a jaded old man about this kind of thing …. and a Queen fan since 1974….. but I thought that kid was great …..and it would work a heck of a lot better than Paul Rodgers.

But…

It still doesn’t matter until they get John Deacon back into it again.

SWA | 5/23/2009, 3:06 pm EST

I wonder if Adam’s done the Deep Purple/Ian Gillan Portfolio, “Highway Star”, “Child in Time”, “The Mule”, “My Woman from To-kay-o”??

The Who’s “Won’t get Fooled Again” would be trippy.

Alan | 5/23/2009, 3:14 pm EST

Well I have been a Queen fan since the beginning and I can say, Paul Rodgers sucked with Queen. It is impossible to replace Freddie, but if you are going to go out as QUEEN, they you at least need someone with the same vocal ranger as him. I believe Adam has the quality. Paul definitely did not in my humble opinion.

Chilove | 5/23/2009, 3:49 pm EST

Adam is not only an amazing vocalist…but, if you check out some of the video of him posted on youtube – before AI. He is amazing on stage! MAD stage presence.

dlt | 5/23/2009, 3:58 pm EST

Killer Queen was their first (US)hit. Remember?

Zeppelin | 5/23/2009, 4:30 pm EST

I can see Lambert touring with the guys a few times (you’d have to be deluded to turn this down) but he’s a songwriter and collaborator who’s ready to start his own recording career – it will be a one-off if anything.

Jermaine | 5/23/2009, 4:35 pm EST

Clay Aiken is a smug, cheesy, catty douchebag.

chubbytabby | 5/23/2009, 4:45 pm EST

I have been a Queen Fan for over 18 years, my husband has been over 35 years. I believe on the “Pure Queen”, my husband though, thinks Brian and Roger should do whatever to make them happy. However, without dear Freddie, without his unmatchable and unreplacable voice, they should not use the name “Queen” anymore.

Tyler | 5/23/2009, 5:01 pm EST

No one can touch Freddie but it’s been a while since I’ve heard this type of vocal resemblance. The lad can suprisingly hold his own without sounding karaoke. Vocally he’s there yet he has his own glamrock thing going on although I understand he used to front his own metal band. So I’m not sure he’s the right fit – but then, who is? I’m parroting May and the guys when I say no one will replace Feddie. But touring for the fans a few more times who still want it makes sense – the band will call it a day when they’re ready to end it all. If I were May, I’d give Lambert a few mentoring sessions to help kickstart his own career. Lucky guy.

RE: | 5/23/2009, 5:04 pm EST

@chubbytabby.

They’ve never called themselves just Queen since Freddie passed. It’s always been ‘Queen and ____’.

Kazzy | 5/23/2009, 5:31 pm EST

Adam could be a front man for any band, he’s that good. I’m a fan of Queen, and honestly, I thought Adam sang even better than Freddie! Can’t believe I said that, but I think F is looking down at Adam with a big smile. I think Adam should forge his own road, but maybe a short stint with Queen would be a great start! Queen would also score millions of new fans (and bucks)

Merv | 5/23/2009, 6:13 pm EST

I hope he gets the gig. It’s a perfect combination.

Treg | 5/23/2009, 6:14 pm EST

Wow, I’m not surprised about this at all… As soon as I heard Adam open this throat I sat forward and laughed with excitement, he had more vocal & stage talent than most BIG stars on stage these days, and I often described him as a NEW modern version of Freddie that the ‘popular’ music scene has long been missing… But note, I said ‘new’…. Adam is young, he’s current, modern, a new face… and not sure he belongs on stage with an ‘old’ (although fitting) band behind him? Adam should do well as lead man with his own band, a new version to continue the greatness of bands like Queen and it’s genre. Adam would make a great ‘Freddie’, but will the old boys cramp his style and ultimate audience acceptance??

Romeo+Thorazine | 5/23/2009, 6:40 pm EST

Queen should consider pulling some of their unseen, unproduced stuff out of the bottom drawer and do a jam session with Adam. Really.
Brian May & Roger Taylor were part of a truly amazing artistic group – if they still have any creative bones in their bodies, they should consider a brief collaboration with Adam Lambert for his first album. His confidence, theatrical sense & outstanding interpretations could begin something very cool and NEW. And they don’t have to call themselves Queen.

Palindrome | 5/23/2009, 6:50 pm EST

Every one seems to be suggesting that Adam either do his own album or front Queen ( and implying he would just be singing already recorded Queen songs on a tour). Nobody seems to be considering the possibility of a new Queen album with Adam handling lead vocals and co-writing. It would be the best of both worlds. Adam gets to record his own album of new material with Queen ( and incredible tutors and co-writers in Brian and Roger ). If he did an album entirely on his own he’d have a limited book of hits for a live show. If he records with Queen, he’d have his own new material co-written with Queen and they would have Him to front the band and sing lead on the old material.

dlt | 5/23/2009, 7:37 pm EST

griffin | 5/23/2009, 7:40 pm EST

queen freddie mercury – 730 000 hits
queen adam lambert – 2 850 000 hits (was 2 400 000 a couple of minutes ago).

Weird, huh?

Maybe they should really work together…

Ken | 5/23/2009, 7:56 pm EST

Lambert is terrible. He’s Grade B Musical Theatre at BEST. The song he did with Queen sounded very mediocre. Having said that, this is pretty much like those rumors with Daughtry. Lambert is going to go out on his own and make his own money. Would be foolish for him not to.

NO | 5/23/2009, 8:15 pm EST

NO

Melissa | 5/23/2009, 8:18 pm EST

I love Freddie. Adam has the voice and the heart to contribute to Queen as a musician, which is what Freddie did. Having heard Adam speak during the competition I could tell he has what it takes to collaborate in a real way in Queen. Paul Rodgers, unfortunately, was simply not the right fit. Adam has the right spirit and Queen would not have to tone down their music to fit a vocalist that couldn’t keep up. (Sorry Paul Rodgers, that was the way your songs with Queen translated.) I think Adam and Queen are a perfect fit.

Melissa | 5/23/2009, 8:24 pm EST

And LOL at “Musical Theater” comment below. Because as any true Queen fan understands, Queen was not in the least bit theatrical. Just ignore that whole “Night at the Opera” thing.

JMO | 5/23/2009, 8:48 pm EST

Adam as a replacement for Freddie wouldn’t work. Why is everyone so in to that? Because he dyes his hair black, wears leather and is gay? Yes he can sing but he’s a screamer most of the time. Yea, he likes to do glamrock. Remember Adam is 27 yrs old. Almost 30. He should do his own thing and maybe at a tribute he could sing a few Queen songs. Otherwise he will spend his time being continually compared to Freddie.

sheesh | 5/23/2009, 9:15 pm EST

Brian May was being kind complimenting Adam, very p.c. in fact. He WAS not saying that he actually wanted him as a permanent replacement unless that is exactly what you wanted to see. After listening to Adam, I had to cleanse my ears with “The show must go on.” Could Lambert write a song while on his deathbed and then actually get out of his deathbed for one take to record a masterpiece never creating a video because of his condition? Nope, only Freddie.

sheesh to Melissa | 5/23/2009, 9:20 pm EST

No wonder you heard that May wanted Adam Lambert in Queen since you also failed to note that the comment was not about Musical Theater as the issue but “Grade B” musical theater which makes ALL the difference. Freddie was Grade AAA musical theater singing instead of screeching.

JJ | 5/23/2009, 10:20 pm EST

First time I heard Adam I said, Wow, Freddie Mercury. Looks like Brian May thought the same thing. It’s a great collaboration.

raisedlefteyebrow | 5/23/2009, 10:22 pm EST

“Mika, LOL! Adam has more talent in his eyeliner than Mika has in his entire being.”

Oh really? When was the last time Lambert actually WROTE a song?

I wonder how many of the self proclaimed Queen diehards on here know any of Queen’s catalog besides songs like We are the Champions, We Will Rock You, and Bohemian Rhapsody. Ever heard of Seven Seas of Rhye? Stone Cold Crazy? Radio Ga Ga? I don’t listen to much Queen and I’m only a casual fan but I’m willing to bet that people who truly care about the future of the band don’t say things like “Freddie is dead, alright?.” Freddie Mercury didn’t sing passable versions of other people’s songs. He put his heart and soul into his own in a way that only a few people have ever been able to do. I find it amusing that people think this guy is the next David Bowie just because he imitates voices from the past in eyeliner. If you so called Queen fans want Adam to replace the irreplaceable, its your call. But do you really want this to be the future of one of the greatest bands of all time?:

“OMG RU4RL? He is sooo cute! All my friends talk about him and I think he is like OMG!”

My husband and I and our 8 year old son were thrilled when Adam and Kris started singing ‘We are the Champions’ in the AI final, and totally blown away when we realised Queen were actually there. If Queen toured with Adam Lambert as frontman and came to NZ we would definitely go. My husband and I have been Queen fans for around 30 years, our 26 year old grew up to love it, and now our 8 year old loves it too. Their music spans all the generations (even my mom loves it), it is timeless – having Adam Lambert bring new life to Queen would be the ultimate, he is a fitting substitute for Freddie and I am sure Freddie would have approved.

Wei Guo | 5/24/2009, 1:00 am EST

What a tribute to Freddie Mercury! Adam has reminded so many of us of Freddie Mercury. He has introduced a whole new generation of fans to Queen’s music. Freddie must be smiling.

LOLA | 5/24/2009, 3:57 am EST

WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS A GREAT NEW ROCK ALBUM WITH MASTERS IN THEIR CRAFT.
THIS IS ADAMS DESTINY, HE WAS REINCARNATED TO SING IN A MEGA BAND. WHEN SOMEONE MASTERS VOCALS LIKE THIS, THEY DESERVE TO PLAY WITH THE BEST. WAKE UP THIS KID IS TRULY GIFTED. MY DREAM WOULD BE TO GO TO A QUEEN SHOW AND HEAR SOMEONE AS GIFTED AS ADAM, TO HONOR FREDDIE. MY GOD BRIAN WAKE UP, HE WAS BORN TO WORK WITH YOU. THERE ARE NO MISTAKES IN LIFE,THIS WAS MENT TO BE.

Barbara | 5/24/2009, 4:15 am EST

Freddie Mercury was unique, the greatest EVER and is irreplaceable. Brian and Roger can never be Queen again without him. However they are remarkably talented musicians and I would certainly love to see and hear more from them. A collaboration with a bright new star like Adam would be awesome as long as they focused on new material & I believe that between the 3 of them they could bless us with some truly great new music.

Margaret | 5/24/2009, 4:24 am EST

The fact the musicians like Queen and Slash (who says he’d like to collaborate, too) are considering working with Adam is remarkable. These people are HUGE and they’re literally courting and wanting to “have a meaningful conversation” with the American Idol runner-up. What a testament to Adam’s ability and sheer star power. Adam has “IT”…plain and simple. These people know he’s going to become a Music Icon. They’ve been in the business long enough to know when someone truly “special” comes along. We are seeing the birth of something like Elvis or the Beatles. Adam is the one.

Sarah | 5/24/2009, 4:32 am EST

Do you have any idea of how big Adam is going to be after the American Idol Tour this summer? They better be prepared for mob scenes at those concerts.
By the time the tour ends he’s going to be a Mega Star. Personally, I’d like to see him take the Solo route or form his own band. Possibly could see him as the frontman of Queen, if they collaborate and come up with totally new material. They are smart to be talking to him about it though because in afew months he’s going to be so huge it’ll be ridiculous! I just hope he’s ready because it’s going to get CRAZY!

Lucy | 5/24/2009, 5:04 am EST

Adam can’t be Queen’s new singer, he just can’t be! Paul Rodgers is the man for them. They can’t just put Adam as their leader singer straight away! NOOOOOOO!

meddows | 5/24/2009, 7:59 am EST

I notice that most of the pro-Adam comments are from females. Same as during the Clay Aiken uprising. I read Brian’s comments and don’t think he’d consider Adam, seriously, for a minute. I am a *true* Queen fan- not someone that has a Greatest HIts CD and thinks they’re an expert. First concert was 1980 during The Game tour, and have seen ever incarnation since then such as solo Brian and Q&PR. I have every album (vinyl!) and two of each CD- the original (better) UK version, then the US Hollywood Records version. My office is lined with collectibles from over the years. Every time a hot singer comes along, someone links them to Queen. Reading this hype, I watched the clip of Adam and Queen. He was not terrible, but he over-sang every line. He added inappropriate wailing to phrases that are meant to be punched out. It was almost dead-on identical to the (horrible) performace of the same song by Liza Minelli for the Freddie Tribute concert. Adam also backed away from the mic the way most do– when trying to hit a note only Freddie could do. If you have the range, you don’t need to pull off the mic. Adam and similar singers add that bit of inflection to compensate for lack of range. That doesn’t mean he can’t sing loudly, it means he can’t sustain and hard note w/ control. Brian is a great person (adore my signed copy of his book: “Bang!”), and he would probably LOVE to have Adam perform for the WWRY Musical. Adam is destined to be a teeny-bop sensation (for the 1st mentioned women in this post), and then move on to Stage. Gene Simmons is correct: Adam is not a true rocker. He sings guy songs like a… girl (watch him then watch Aguilera with the sound off). That’s fine, but how many female-led ROCK bands are on the charts today? He will do a lot of stuff, but every attempt to do edgy material makes him look like a $3 lounge singer.

A. Men | 5/24/2009, 8:07 am EST

The fact that Queen and Slash say they would love to work with Adam, just shows how over the hill they are!
Dated, tired has-beens.

Anonymous | 5/24/2009, 9:44 am EST

Adam is the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury. His voice is amazing and he could easily make some amazing music with Queen. Adam is brilliant and far superior to Paul Rodgers, and is prob the only person that could do Freddie Mercury justice.

It’s a huge compliment that so many successful rock musicians are Adam Lambert fans. I think if Adam did some guest appearances with Queen, or any other suitable band, that would be great. But honestly, These “legends” really are no place for Adam to camp out and stay.

Adam is in a growth period. He needs to put together his own band like Daughtry did, and write and perform his own music. So my vote is for maybe a temporary short term guest appearance but not a long term commitment.

dlt | 5/24/2009, 10:22 am EST

Ever check out the first Guns & Roses’ album, Appetite For Destruction? Ya think A Lambert can write lyrics as strong? And there’s a Night at the Opera, Sheer Heart–F Mercury quoting Shakespeare: “My kingdom for a horse”–Attack. Lambert gonna use Desmond–is he/she still alive?–Child, and/or that chick who wrote the pulp for the last AI show?

YSU78 | 5/24/2009, 10:27 am EST

@ raisedlefteyebrow:

Perfect post, perfect response to the youth on here that have NO CLUE to Freddie’s brilliance.

Please don’t put Adam in the same sentence as Freddie. It isn’t fair to either of them.

isla | 5/24/2009, 10:36 am EST

Firstly, Lambert hasn’t staked any claims to being like Freddie or anyone else. Brian May complimented him, and Lambert was suitably grateful. Secondly, the way Queen was with Freddie can never be brought back. But if the Queen of today wants to collaborate with a young singer who, as Slash points out, has got an amazing set of pipes, thats great. Lastly, I don’t think Brian May was hinting at Adam as a front man for Queen. He was simply acknowledging that the boy has talent. Amazing how nostalgia makes some people bitter and twisted about new talent. Lambert’s talent is interesting, cos he can’t be boxed in and labelled. Whether people like or not he’s got something that a lot of people want – and its not genre or age specific. Critics can blag him all they want, but at the end of the day supply only exists if there is demand. Idol and the media haven’t created Lambert. He’s done it by himself. If the big guns are happy to mentor him along his journey, good for them and good for him. All respect to Queen, Kiss and Slash.

@ raisedlefteyebrow | 5/24/2009, 10:41 am EST

“Oh really? When was the last time Lambert actually WROTE a song?”

Wow. Do your research. Adam is a songwriter and collaborator, he can read music and was mastering the piano before he auditioned. He co-wrote Crawl Thru Fire with Monte Pittman, Madonna’s guitarist. He wrote material when he fronted his old metal band, when he fronted his old glamrock band, when he was doing acid rock, when he was doing art-rock, when he was doing alt-rock and psychedelic progressive rock and ambient funk. The list goes on.

dlt | 5/24/2009, 10:50 am EST

Free to choose, Slash once complimented Iggy Pop, saying that he thinks outside the box. Unfortunately, Slash and Brian May are stuck inside the box, seeking comfort(s), retirement pay–not art

dlt | 5/24/2009, 11:38 am EST

Axl Rose. Freddy Mercury. Adam Lambert. Who’s the best lyricist?

JX | 5/24/2009, 11:54 am EST

I don’t know what all of the hoop-la about lambert was…at best, he sounds like a cat with his tail being stepped on. A front man for Queen??? Please! This guy couldn’t be a raodie for the group. Freddy he is not!!!!

LOLA | 5/24/2009, 1:39 pm EST

FOR ALL OF YOU PUTTING THIS IDEA DOWN, GET A GRIP, THIS WOULD BE THE GREATEST ROCK EVENT OF THIS DECADE. WHY SHOULDNT ADAM WORK WITH THE GREATEST ROCK BAND-MUSICIANS.
ADAM HAS A TRUE GIFT VOCALLY. NO HES NOT FREDDIE , HES ADAM WITH HIS OWN GIFT TO SHARE. BRIAN AND ADAM SHOULD COLLABRATE IN THE STUDIO TOGETHER AND SEE WHAT THEY COME UP WITH. GOD KNOWS WE NEED A GREAT ICONIC ALBUM.I KNEW FREDDIE AND HE WOULD EMBRACE ADAM, AND LOVE KEEPING HIS SPIRIT ALIVE. LETS CELEBRATE ADAMS BIRTH. HE IS A GIFT FROM THE GODS.BRAVO ADAM. ALL OF YOU PUTTING HIM DOWN, I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ANY ONE OF YOU HIT THOSE NOTES?

Outshined | 5/24/2009, 2:05 pm EST

Meddows, you are talking rubbish about Adam backing away from the mic when it came to a hard note, I suspect he was trying not to dominate the song and embarrass Kris whose voice is nowhere near as impressive. If you had watched Adam at all through the rest of the competition, you would know he can EASILY sustain a high note with plenty of control. Plus I would like to point out that contrary to your generalised opinion, I’m male and mostly listen to rock music. Some of my favouirte singers are Chris Cornell, Maynard James Keenan, Myles Kennedy, Robert Plant and Jeff Buckley – and I think Adam is right up there with any of them.

turned off | 5/24/2009, 2:09 pm EST

Absolutely horrible. And very hypercritical considering the songs Queen put out recently (and as solo artists) condemning shows like this as well as the king of Fox network. I realize they miss the success they had with Freddie, but at 64 you’d think they’d be old enough to accept it!

Brian's Blurred Vision | 5/24/2009, 2:47 pm EST

Freddie gave everything he had to Queen, singing even when he could no longer stand, until he died. Queen fans are upset because Freddie wouldn’t want to be replaced, and Brian said he’d never do it. Personally, if he replaces Freddie, I’m done with them. I don’t want worship false “idols”.

FIN83 | 5/24/2009, 3:36 pm EST

I think Adam is REALLY GOOD and i listen him all night and days :) He`s voice is awesome!!
It would be great if he work with them, but not the name Queen… Maybe some new material…
And those queen fans -> We live the 20th century, so give me a brake!!!
Lots of people saying he can`t sing or he sreams ->But i also think that Slash / Brian and so on… Knows a talent AND ADAM IS SO TALENTED!!
I live in Finland and i will come to USA to watch him some day , and he will a superstar!

Anonymous | 5/24/2009, 4:57 pm EST

Boy, Meddows, you must have missed that AI show where Adam hit that 13-second note that could have shattered a glass with it’s perfection and consistency. Pity you missed it, but then, perhaps you just feel like itching.

Zeki Laurent | 5/24/2009, 5:05 pm EST

This could be a win-win situation for all parts involved. Queen will arrive in this century by embracing, Adam who gets to be the frontman in a band he has always admired. This collaboration would be very very marketable, and Bryan May – as well as all others – know this.

Leonardo | 5/24/2009, 5:28 pm EST

Jesus…don’t get all the hype on this little boy…
He is no rock singer; can’t hit the high notes..is all about screaming like a prima dona Whitney Houston with a bad cold.
He’s just a performer, wouldn’t last 30 seconds on a big stage.
Please is an insult comparing him to Freddie Mercury; Freddie is a legend, an icon…he is one of the best singers in music history. And please, don’t say he sings like Steven Tyler as well because he did an awful job trying to sing ”Crying”…
Boy is just a performer (a bad one)….didn’t even write a good song…
Also, Axl Rose is a living legend, the greatest frontman in music history…ask Adam to sing ”Welcome to the Jungle” and let’s see if he can get to the second verse.
Adam…you have a lot to learn…

Bruno | 5/24/2009, 5:31 pm EST

Whoever said that Adam is a better singer than Paul Rodgers deserves to be shot in the head…

DallasGal | 5/24/2009, 5:36 pm EST

I hope Brian May keeps up with these comments: Adam fronting for Queen — wild, sold out concerts worldwide. No one replaces Freddie. We want to see Queen again and Adam Lambert has mad vocals the “it” factor. Combine the two and you have a whole new generation of followers. The sooner the better.

dlt | 5/24/2009, 6:53 pm EST

Queen’s new lead vocalist: Lola

Steve | 5/24/2009, 6:54 pm EST

This would be a good move on Queen’s part. Pairing up with Lambert would make them more modern and introduce them to a whole new generation of fans. For Lambert, it would provide older mentors to ground him through the insanity (similar to Elvis and the Beatles) that is about to become his life.

Atli | 5/24/2009, 7:00 pm EST

I hope that they will not tour with Adam, Paul Rodgers tour was cool but i really hope that they will not tour with this idol star.

For the love of God, Brian! | 5/24/2009, 7:01 pm EST

Please don’t do this!
Or, if you do, don’t call yourselves Queen.
I didn’t mind your work with Paul Rodgers because he’s a legitimately talented singer.
But not this shemale!

I agree with Gene Simmons’ comment on Reuters’ website that Lambert is not a rock singer, but more of a Broadway performer.
So, Brian, leave the shemale alone. And let Adam wander the Great White Way, where he (apparently) belongs.

CR1ZZ | 5/24/2009, 7:04 pm EST

GERN! WTF MAN!?
AXL ROSE IS STILL ALIVE! FREDDIE MERCURY IS NOT!!! Guns’n'roses DO NOT need another frontman! THEY HAVE THE ORIGINAL! Even though they don’t perform it could happen anyway.
Queen however will never get their original frontman back on stage!
THERE CAN BE QUEEN WITHOUT FREDDIE! JUST WATCH HIS BENEFIT CONCERT- George Michael, Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, ADAM IS BETTER THAN ALL OF THEM!

try hards | 5/24/2009, 7:07 pm EST

LOL, May did not say Adam will be fronting Queen. He wants to WORK with him. Adam’s a collaborator and the next male Madonna, he’s not fronting Queen.

Mary | 5/24/2009, 7:13 pm EST

I’m 63 and a woman who loves all kind of music. I would LOVE to go to a concert with QUEEN and ADAM LAMBERT…I think they would compliment each other and both are off the scales for TALENT.

CC | 5/24/2009, 7:17 pm EST

Leonardo, if you haven’t seen Adam live Pre Idol, you really shouldn’t be commenting. People haven’t seen a quarter of what this guy can do. He’s yet to meet a stage large enough for his voice and presence, you can quote me on that.

Die Man DIe | 5/24/2009, 7:30 pm EST

Ok you haters – here’s a predictioin you’ll just love – Adam will tour with Queen and pack Wembley. Yes. You have permission to stay home and swallow a Geritol and rub your legs with Ben Gay whilst an ENORMOUS throng of young people flock to Wembley to make Adam very very rich, and add a few more million pounds into Dr. May’s personal coffers.

Jeff | 5/24/2009, 7:36 pm EST

It’s always been hard for Queen to be accepted as a “rock” band. But in the last few years, public opinion seemed to be in their favor. Collaborating with an American Idol would more than like sway public opinion back to the notion that Queen is just a pop group.

Old Queen Fan | 5/24/2009, 8:24 pm EST

One can’t justify negative comments on his singing ability. In the first AI show I immediately thought of Queen when I watched Adam, his energy, charisma, vocal talent, and stage presence is a young version Freddie, not as flamboyant, but is possibly one of the best up and coming performers. He could perform any of the songs off of the Queen II album and make Brian and the rest proud. I hope that he has the chance to perform with Brian- the kid deserves it.

Another Old Queen Fan | 5/24/2009, 8:41 pm EST

Zeppelin or Green Day or Radio Head or any reputable rock band for that matter wouldn’t even consider this as an option. “Reputation once lost…”

dlt | 5/24/2009, 8:47 pm EST

Clara Petlak | 5/24/2009, 10:12 pm EST

rockfan | 5/24/2009, 10:42 pm EST

Funny thing is: the Kiss/Lambert video has about a million more hits then the Queen/Lambert video. Guess his fans would rather see him hook up with Kiss. And Gene Simmons wants nothing to do with him!

Faizal Juhari | 5/24/2009, 10:48 pm EST

200% agree Adam is the World idol…I stayed watch American Idol season 8 coz of Adam. I was extremely sad to see Adam has been treated so cruel by Americans just like how they treat Michael Jackson…Maybe Americans always judge the book by its cover..They do not know the real meaning of TALENT. No worrz anymore Adam lost his title in AI coz Adam now is THE WORLD IDOL just like Elvis, Queen, Michael Jackson, Elton, U2, Rolling Stone…Can’t wait to see Adam & Queen show again…

Regards from Malaysia….

Ray | 5/25/2009, 1:01 am EST

Do May and Taylor have no shame? After Queen fans had to suffer through the dreadful Paul Rodgers collaboration, we already know the duo has lost whatever credibility they once had. But even thinking about a collaboration with the winner of a contrived televison show is ludicrous. Damn, Taylor and May have become the latest in a long line of aging rock stars who refuse to go away. McCartney, the Stones, the Who, Kiss, Aerosmith and now what’s left of Queen, have all become the very thing they once sneered at; irrelevant artists who seemingly quiver with fright at the prospect of seeing the spotlight turned off. As for American Idol winners (and the giddy fans who worship them), you can go to any blues bar and find more talen than the pretty boys and girls being offered. What in hell has happened to music???

chris | 5/25/2009, 1:25 am EST

everybody wants him with queen, why, they just want to jump on the band wagon and make money while hes popular rght now and then throw him away when they dont need him and hes not popular anymore

Tammy Kessler | 5/25/2009, 2:29 am EST

You do not have to replace or to be anybody .If you have a talent, have confidence in yourself, go out and give your best shot. Sure the World will decide that you are a super star… Keep moving Adam to the Top….

Alx | 5/25/2009, 2:36 am EST

I think that a short term collaboration would be great for both sides, maybe a couple of gigs; I adore Adam and I love Queen, but I really want Adam to be iconic on his own, but it’s not that easy after idol, this is the kind of collaboration that would really give him the exposure he deserves outside of AI.

Honestly | 5/25/2009, 2:38 am EST

“Funny thing is: the Kiss/Lambert video has about a million more hits then the Queen/Lambert video. Guess his fans would rather see him hook up with Kiss. And Gene Simmons wants nothing to do with him!”

rockfan,

the gene simmons thing has been debated into the ground. anyone with half a brain can go to genesimmons.com, read all three letters, gene’s responses and know that is NOT what he meant or said.

now, i’m going to be the bad guy, here. i like kris allen a lot. i mean it. he’s talented and i’m okay with the fact that he won american idol most of the time. i have watched both the idol KISS performance and the Queen performance on youtube. i enjoyed the KISS one more, because (gulp) during the duet with Queen, i just wanted kris allen to stop singing. he’s got a great voice, but when he and lambert sing that song with Queen side by side (and/or together) it demonstrates (to me)exactly why i felt adam lambert should have won. the joy of listen to the song is further tampered by the fact that i feel lambert is toning down his own performance so as not to overshadow allen. it makes me feel like crap. i’ll go back and watch again, i know, eventually. i’ll learn to love it, i’m sure and, if it’s released buy it off of itunes. i suspect i’m not the only person who feels this way. peace.

Honestly | 5/25/2009, 2:47 am EST

Oh, yeah,

what makes it even worse, is that allen is clearly having the time of his life (lambert, too), but the whole thing makes me feel guilty for wishing allen wasn’t there.

Haley | 5/25/2009, 2:47 am EST

Adam can basically write his own ticket at this point. Iconic Bands want him as their frontman or to tour with them as a guest performer, producers are lining up to work on his album, Slash wants to collaborate with him on the album, record labels are probably in a bidding war to sign him and every media outlet wants to interview and feature him. It’ll be interesting to see what choices he makes and what direction he wants to take his career because he has more choices/options than anyone right now.

BR | 5/25/2009, 3:27 am EST

“everybody wants him with queen, why, they just want to jump on the band wagon and make money while hes popular rght now and then throw him away when they dont need him and hes not popular anymore”

Well, I think both Queen AND Adam would benefit from this merger. Can you imagine any better way for Adam to “get out there”, and for Queen to boost their image? Wouldn’t need to be forever, maybe a tour or a few appearances. It’s really a win-win!

Adamania83 | 5/25/2009, 5:56 am EST

While I love Queen, I think it would be a big mistake for Adam. People would always be comparing him to Freddy and there really is no comparison to make. Adam needs a big powerful band behind him and just name the whole thing “ADAM”. Make your own music Adam. The world awaits you and your style alone. We’re ready. Now…frickin’ rock us!

Perfect | 5/25/2009, 5:59 am EST

It would be great if Adam just did a guest apperance, Adam is Adam and he will always stand out ,he has such a powerful identity all on his own, and he needs to express that wonderful creativity that is in his soul. We just got a taste of it on AI- now that Adam can really fly to the stratosphere we are all in for the ride of our lives!! Love you Adam!!

Stan | 5/25/2009, 6:01 am EST

I would be heartbroken if Adam joined QUEEN. To work with them on some tracks — great. But to become a permanent fixture with them, that would be a shame. Adam has way too much versatility to go there now. I hope he will do something on his own where he can really showcase all of his talents. Just hooking up with QUEEN would be such a letdown.

May&Roger | 5/25/2009, 6:22 am EST

As a fan of “real” Queen, I hate to realize that Brian and Roger are just two old pals desperately trying to regain their popularity. In fact Queen has already come to its end since Freddie left us. However, while only poor John has remain some dignity, it is a shame for Brian that he tried hard in this several years to disgrace the fame of Queen and himself, only to try vainly to show that he is as important as Freddie for the success of Queen. Damn it, I just can’t find what good he’ll get in the end.

Bryan | 5/25/2009, 7:45 am EST

These contestants should go out on their own and prove themselves before we elevate them to the status of iconic musicians. We just hand over the respect automatically. Every year there’s a frenzy over the American Idol finals; it’s just this is the first time a major group has been sucked into it. Hopefully, it’s the last.

dlt | 5/25/2009, 7:55 am EST

All the guys in Kiss sing. And Cher (Bono) sometimes helps out.

Ever hear those restaurant workers that sing in the Times Square area, the NYC theatre district, w/ their Vienna boys choir voices? I’ll bet they haven’t listened to much Howlin Wolf

Nothing but blue | 5/25/2009, 8:04 am EST

Queen is being reduced to a vehicle for the latest manufactured pop idol. I can’t believe that his fans are wondering if Queen is good enough for him!

Adamania83 | 5/25/2009, 8:36 am EST

I didn`t mean that Queen is not good enough to Adam. I think Adam should not go the band which is ICONIC really. Because everybody will goin to compare Adam to Freddie and so on…
Adam should do he`s own thing what will make him to be ” iconic” :)
That was my point and i really love Queen but i also never been this excited a singer before so:)
I can`t wait to see what future brings to Adam…
And i really hate these trashers here, because you haven`t see him performing LIVE and i can sure that, this singer belongs to the BIG ARENA :) I was there in the final so…

Sarah | 5/25/2009, 9:36 am EST

Well, Adam definitely has the chops.

kelly | 5/25/2009, 10:05 am EST

If Brian died, I wouldn’t want to see anybody strap on Brian’s guitar for that sound and just replace him. And I wouldn’t want to see Queen put anybody even remotely close to Freddie in there either (isn’t that what Journey’s supposed to keep doing?!). So my vote is no.

NOOOOOO! | 5/25/2009, 11:00 am EST

this would be a complete embarrasment to the Queen name

Sandra | 5/25/2009, 11:16 am EST

The whole thing reminds me of the character in St. Elmo’s Fire who happily blows a high-school fortune on hiring Van Halen to play at a party. Both Kiss and Queen were admired by all teen boys in the 1990s, but when megatalented Adam completely grows up, after fulfilling all of his old teen dreams, he will move on to loftier goals.

AGREEEEE | 5/25/2009, 12:25 pm EST

I was just at my local record mom and pop record store. The three guys working there were discussing how bad this was for music not to mention Queen. Their ‘who’s next’ hookups were very amusing though like Susan Boyle and Ossie. Maybe Brian May was just caught up in a moment.

Cynicus Diogenes | 5/25/2009, 12:40 pm EST

Most of you guys are too old to remember, but Queen (like Zep and Kiss before them) was definitely a money grabbing ploy from the group’s inception, and this DOES make a difference. So quit acting like that old prostitute’s ‘honour’ is at stake, and realize if it wouldn’t amount to as little as what they underachieved with Paul Rodgers (called ‘the best ever rock singer by none less than Rod Stewart), they would probably MARRY Lambert, this week’s lion, er, flavor of preference.. ON TV. God bless the preen!

Adamnation | 5/25/2009, 1:33 pm EST

I was a mad Queen fan and went to every concert I could get into when they toured. During the auditions once Adam sang I immediately thought Holy Cow he could bring Queen back! Hell yeah I think Freddie Mercury would love to see Adam Lambert with his old band performing again. Freddie Loved music. Adam Loves Music. Queen needs a front man and Adam is it. I do think Adam and Queen should do some new music. I do think Adam should also continue to do his own thing. Adam isn’t just Queen music he has an R&B sound, a Soul Sound, Punk, Dance, Ballad and if none of you have heard him do Brigadoon you are just in a cave. Adam would make Queen so much money it is beyond. Queen entertaining anyone else to be their frontman right now is silly. If I were May I’d be talking to 19 Entertainment to see what they could work out. Oh and Adam Lambert is the American Idol, not Kris Allen. Adam Lambert is the Ugly Duckling turned into that beautiful swan – look at his back story and you’d see that. He is a disney story just waiting to happen. Talk about life imitating art, if you relook at it he is the real underdog in this story and not Kris Allen.

Stones | 5/25/2009, 1:39 pm EST

Some of you are so narrow minded and totally … And he is not Freddie and never will be, he is Adam Lambert who has so much talent and you can only dream on REALLY!!! He will be a huge star. You can listening your old singers/bands, you don`t have to like him, but i don`t see the point to trash this guy! I think you guys in the USA are freaking idiots!! If you don`t like him, dont`t read any articles, see the videos … of him. You people are like 5 years old childs!!!!!!!!
GOD bless America… I always wondering that you haven`t kill each others yet , so now is a good time :)

Sis | 5/25/2009, 1:49 pm EST

This is insulting to Queen… there shouldnt even be a debate on it in the first place. Can’t believe Brian May is even talking about it… Brian, it’s an insult to Queen’s fans.

Anonymous | 5/25/2009, 1:56 pm EST

I don’t think Adam will joined Queen , simply because there are a lot of hard fans out there who will accept only Freddy, and no one else, even Adam, can`t replace him. But Adam should definitely have his own career. Because there is lot of fan in this world , who just love this guy.
We have all our opinions, but i don`t understand all the hate! He definitely is no Freddy Mercury but he is damn good, and if he doesn’t do stupid things he may be really famous one day! I So only time will tell!
I hope you can see the good of all people and i am sure that you will do what is best for you and your talent! And i think we can expecting something new and fresh :) I Can`t wait to buy your “upcoming record ” !!
Love you :)

DEFINITELY ADAM AND QUEEN COMBO!!!

dlt | 5/25/2009, 3:22 pm EST

There are many folks who have at least as much talent as A Lambert, and I’m one of them. How do ya measure talent? Originality is a major factor–integrity, as well. Any canary can sing.

On a Michigan stage, Jim Morrison once hollered to the audience, “Anybody got a cigarette?” Morrison proved you could get away w/ anything if you had style.

Do ya think Slash and/or Brian May are really considering Lambert, or any of the other AI alumni? Any hype involved in this?

Gloria | 5/25/2009, 3:24 pm EST

Adam with Queen would be awesome!!
I’m 54 so I am VERY familiar with Queen and KISS and IMO to tour with either band, would be a phenomenal step in Adams’ career. He has his fanbase and the bands have theirs and I know many of my generation would love to see Adam with either one, even if only guest spots. It would be a boost for his career and as someone mentioned being compared to Freddy Mercury…Well that has already been done. Adam is Adam and not replacing anyone! He is his own man with his own talent and I for one would love to see Adam with an Iconic Band whether it be as a guest, touring etc… bottom line is that Adam is destined to become a Legend!!! ADAM ROCKS MY WORLD(ROCK GOD) ADAM IS PURE PERFECTION!!!

Melissa | 5/25/2009, 3:55 pm EST

LOL at all of this. Should Adam Lambert and Queen play together? Only if they all want to make a grazillion dollars. See you there boys! As Freddie would say, “Fab.”

Tony | 5/25/2009, 4:29 pm EST

Give it a rest, May never said the kid would front the band. Half the people here complaining probably never even attended a true Queen concert. My first was A Night At The Opera in 76 and I hit as many in Chicago as I could after that. I don’t want to see this Lambert kid FRONT Queen either, I don’t think anyone should. PR was a damn joke, the music was not in Queen’s style even though they used the name. I’d much rather see them collaborate on a couple new songs –with the Queen sound and this new kid – then to listen to the crap with PR. At least this kid can come closer to the original sound of Queen that I love then any other singer has been able to do so far.

My two favorite bands has always been Zep and Queen. I can appreciate that at least some of the old timers see some promise in this kids voice. Slash DID say he had some damn good “pipes” and agreed to mentor on AI just because of Lambert, Zep DID clear for him to sing WLL (first time for an AI contestant) and evidently May/Taylor hear something they like as well since Brian said the kid had “one amazing instrument there.” Who am I to disagree with rock legends like that. I’ll take their word that they hear something there before I write the kid off. Who knows, May might not plan on touring any longer and just wants to give the kid a break by mentoring him a bit. I say go for it, help bring some real rock back to the world we live in. God know we could use some.

As far as Simmon’s remark that the kid is not rock but more theater – look who’s talking. I know the night of the finale he said that Lambert wasn’t really KISS material but more suited to Queen. What the hell Gene – with your additional comment does that mean you don’t consider Queen to be true rock? Well, your band was a joke to any serious rocker in the 70’s that wanted more then a show – we wanted the music! The only reason people remember them now is due to their theatrics, has nothing to do with the music. Without the costumes your band would have never made it in the real world of rock.

I know someone that was at the actual Finale and after they came back and watched a rerun of the show they said Lambert’s voice was so much better live. They claimed it filled the whole damn theater. With all the above I say “go for it” Bryan. Help the kid out a bit, show the younger generation what rock is really about instead of this drab crap they listen to now. Help shape this kid so he can become their legend as Freddie was ours.

Want to add – I don’t see how anyone that can’t even spell Freddie’s name right has any business calling themselves a fan.

Tony | 5/25/2009, 4:33 pm EST

Well hell, I just did what I complained about someone else doing. Sorry Brian – I see I spelled it Bryan once. My son’s name is Bryan and I got carried away.

Adam should do his own thing. It is his time to shine and hopefully with a good producer and back up band he can take us all on an wonderful journey to new worlds with a great voice and big sound.

dlt | 5/25/2009, 5:09 pm EST

Adam Lambert is a perfect Adam Lambert, just like Al Bundy is a perfect Homer Simpson

Leonardo | 5/25/2009, 5:36 pm EST

CC…here’s my challenge…ask Adam to sign ”Welcome to the Jungle”, let´s see what your golden boy can really do….

Tony | 5/25/2009, 6:06 pm EST

Clay is the man he will set queen on fire

Bunny | 5/25/2009, 6:10 pm EST

Adam’s voice reminds me of the late Roy Orbison. Maybe he could replace Roy in The Traveling Wilbury’s (Are they still together?)if Queen doesn’t work out! I can’t stop listening to Adam Lambert’s idol songs…to me he has the most beautiful male voice I’ve ever heard and his thrilling high notes make my soul soar & my heart tremble!

Kaylee | 5/25/2009, 7:02 pm EST

Adam needs to do his own thing. He needs to establish himself as a solo artist. People adore him all around the world. He needs to capitalize on that right now. I would love to see him as a guest performer with Queen…that would be awesome! But I don’t want him locked into a gig as Queen’s frontman….he doesn’t need to be compared to Freddie..he needs to be just be ADAM!

Maggy | 5/25/2009, 7:31 pm EST

I just wrote it on another blog, the next Freddy Mercury, he has the voice, he has the talent, he is the best I have heard for a long time, Still love Freddy till the end of time, but I love the new showman that has emerge. Adam, you are the Winner.

Merle | 5/25/2009, 8:01 pm EST

It would be fantastic if Adam joined Queen for a few concerts. I’d buy tickets. Go Adam. So many of us love him. He has what it takes to be a super star and he sounds great with Queen, best band ever! Freddie would be proud. Good Luck!!

Soul Brother | 5/25/2009, 8:19 pm EST

If this happens, Queen will lose their respectability just like, say, Quentin Taratino would if he gave Heidi Spencer a starring role in his movie. Sure it would bring in the money, but, he would be ridiculed either openly or in secret. While I understand the desire to return to the splendor of yesteryear, sometimes its best to live with the great memories and move on and be thankful for what you had.

MagnificentSynonym | 5/25/2009, 9:19 pm EST

Two things:
1 – Jermaine, lmao at your Clay Aiken comment. So true.

2 – You haters gots to tone it! Let it be, y’all – Adam is pure talent. Screeching is what poor Danny Gokey emitted at the end of “Dream On” on AI, NOT the unbelievably controlled high notes that Adam Lambert is able to hit. Check out “A Change is Gonna Come,” “Mad World,” “Tracks of My Tears” and “One” studio versions on iTunes, not to mention the countless YouTube videos of Adam pre-Idol. Check it – he is the real deal, here to stay, and Brian May seems like a decent dude who recognizes that Adam Lambert has phenom stage presence and the chops to beat any and all of y’all out of your shower screeching any day of the week.

Adam Lambert is a Glam Rock Sex God (thank you, Mr. Sheffield, for that moniker) and deserves every inch of our love.

Stephanie | 5/25/2009, 9:35 pm EST

I would be extremely dissapointed in Queen if they let that idol runner up into their amazing band. I would loose respect and interest in their music if Adam Lambert joined. Adam would be taking the place of Freddy, something no one can do. The members of Queen have to relaize that no idol freak can fill that role.
-also, Adam may be a hit now, but who knows, his 15 seconds of fame are already burning up…and 12 year old girls wont listen to Queen. This is a slap in the face to true Queen fans everywhere.

Faith | 5/25/2009, 9:53 pm EST

Adam ROCKS n id b great for teen girl that love adam to get into queen it might help rock become poular again among teens n help push out SOME talentless pop stars

StephanieisWrong | 5/25/2009, 10:08 pm EST

Adam Lambert’s voice is brillant –Queen should be so lucky to have him.

Michael | 5/25/2009, 10:43 pm EST

Please shutup about the new & reincarnation of Freddie. Adam is no way compared to him sorry.

Kim | 5/25/2009, 11:11 pm EST

Adam addressed this tonight(Monday) on Larry King Live (with Ryan guest hosting).
Adam says they did have a brief conversation. They have not offered the lead singer job. he says “I think they were inteersted in maybe me coming out and joining them here and there” Ryan asked him what he said and Adam saud “Well, obviously we have to work it all out. There’s alot going on”. Ryan pressed and Adam said “It would be amazing” to be the lead singer but he says that i fnot the offer. “They said they would love to see me come out and sing with them and I said I would love to.” Then Ryan asked how he could do that with the upcomiong Idols tour and Adam saus “That’s why I’m hemming and hawing for an answer because that type of stuff would have to be worked out.” It’s awesome though that music legends want Adam to perform with them. People are lining up to work with Adam!

motherbear | 5/25/2009, 11:38 pm EST

Adam wouldn’t even get any consideration from May’s if he didn’t feel Adam had something to bring. I think all you disgruntled fans of contestants that couldn’t hold water next to Adam should go back to your hatred/bashing threads on your forums.

Dunsa | 5/26/2009, 12:08 am EST

What the hell is wrong with all you “haters” here??? What a heap of bigots!!! Like every word you say is going to change Brian’s decision or affect Adam’s soaring popularity and his future. Negative comments will only create a hate war on this board!!! I personally don’t agree Adam should front Queen. He needs his own music but if he wants to have a few gigs with them then I’m sure the shows will sell out in 30 seconds.

Anonymous | 5/26/2009, 12:17 am EST

Ugh, I don’t know why people think he’s original. Adam’s just trying to pull something off that he can’t. I appreciate the try to breath that kind of air back into modern music, but he’s just not gonna cut it.

Starry Eyed | 5/26/2009, 1:30 am EST

RS, how can you honestly justify KISS, Alice Cooper, and ACDC not being in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame? Don’t play innocent…we all know they’re not in.

yes!!! | 5/26/2009, 3:12 am EST

@Tony: you are so right. I’m 19 and I thought rock is dead. But right now I love Queen and can’t stop hearing them because of Adam LOL. Yes, we’ll see what happen if Adam sings WITH Queen.

Fan | 5/26/2009, 3:36 am EST

Oh I would LOVE to see Adam front for Queen, it’s a dream! Adam’s the closest thing to Freddie Mercury I’ve ever heard, and I believe Freddie was the world’s geatest male vocalist of all time.

I’d also love for Adam to put out a solo record and do a world tour. I’ll quit my job and follow him like a Dead Head, LOL!

I want to see Adam do everything! As Brian May himself wrote, I WANT IT ALL!

Trish | 5/26/2009, 4:11 am EST

I loved Adam singing with Queen. My fav song. I loved his voice as I am sure did Brian May. It was strong and it was spot on. I think Brian would have thought it was like performing with Freddy again. I loved it. I think Adam should do some songs with Queen but in this modern age he should not put himself in a box and should bring out sone new music. I would go and see him no matter who he sang with or what he did. Adam has brought music back in to my world and I thank him for it.

Anonymous | 5/26/2009, 4:19 am EST

I’ve decided I’m not going to publicly go on and on about how much I love Adam anymore. It’s obvious our love fest for him is irritating to those who do not feel the same way, and that generates hateful comments.
We all have things, singers, styles & bands( and so on…) we like and that makes world very interesting place, but i`ve also think that all the hate will destroy this planet someday!!!

SporeGlambert | 5/26/2009, 5:45 am EST

Stephanie, you are wrong. In fact, I’m happy now that he is NOT THE WINNER, because I know he has more to gain. Kris got crown, but Adam got career going now. If Adam can join Queen, he would immediately be a legend. Called ADAM AND QUEEN. Wow sounds cool. It is thrilling to know these celebrities are looking up to Adam and you know these people don’t have time to vote. I think from where Adam comes from, majority of people might be too cool to vote too. But we want him to come world concert and bomb us.

dlt | 5/26/2009, 7:12 am EST

Can’t see Lambert singing w/ the Traveling Wilburys. Can he strum a few chords (like likeable hustler Madonna) on the guitar. Also, Lambert’s vision of American probably doesn’t cooincide w/ the old boys’–read Bill Flanagan’s A&R–vision

Scott | 5/26/2009, 7:16 am EST

Queen will become a joke to hardcore rock fans. But if commercial pop is what they want… Shame really, they were great IMO.

Anonymous | 5/26/2009, 7:18 am EST

This won’t happen. He’s got to honor his obligation to the American Idol machine first. After that, people will *hopefully* be over his hype. I mean really, he’s not a good singer, he’s just a decent performer.

Slash | 5/26/2009, 7:48 am EST

He should join Velvet Revolver

Anonymous | 5/26/2009, 7:54 am EST

Anonymous | 5/26/2009, 8:53 am EST

I should probably say that GET A LIFE!! Really people, i think there is now lot`s of people who has now work so they will use their time to so worthless things …

MJ Shaw | 5/26/2009, 10:16 am EST

Who are the retards posting here saying that Adam’s voice sucks??? It’s fascinating how they can say this and yet music industry legends and veterans are blown away by Adam’s vocal prowess… Fascinating indeed….

Dinorah | 5/26/2009, 10:19 am EST

Dear Stephanie: You must read the comments of almost all the REALLY true Queen`s fans about Adam Lambert. There`s nothing wrong to have been on an idol contest, even Queen was in the same program singing with Adam (remember?).It was the same Queen who says their are thinking in Lambert , so, they don`t care if he`s an “idol freak” as you call him. By the way: 12 years old girls are not exactly the people who support and likes Adam Lambert, pleaes read all magazines, and finally, you`re lying, you are not a Queen fan, you don`t even know that our beloved FM was Freddie, not som “Freddy”. Queen lovers don`t do that mistake.

Tom | 5/26/2009, 10:41 am EST

All I can think of is that it must be a real hoot for any of these guys to troll all of these comments. In the end I think they’ll do what works best for them. As an old fart and fan of the band, whether a single, an album, a small tour or larger commitment, I’d try to check it out.

Fail | 5/26/2009, 11:18 am EST

Tracy | 5/26/2009, 11:36 am EST

Soon into the competition my husband and I said that Adam should be the new singer for Queen. When they came out and performed at the finale I couldn’t believe it and it was an amazing performance. It would be awesome.

Baggem | 5/26/2009, 12:00 pm EST

Boy, America sure does love to build ‘em up just to tear ‘em down.

Funny thing is…that’s pretty much a wasted effort when it comes to Lambert. Oh sure, you CAN say the guy can’t sing, but it really just makes you come off looking like a horses ass with some sort of agenda.

JBZ | 5/26/2009, 1:38 pm EST

Adam + Queen is a incredible match – it would bring a whole new audience awareness to Queen, and give Adam a chance to expand his career. I hope Adam didn’t get locked into too much with his American Idol contract – this would be the main ‘problem’ for him to work with Queen. They would fill the bigger stadiums again, and not be resigned to playing the casinos as they have been doing here in the NW.

rockn'oll | 5/26/2009, 3:06 pm EST

It would be an absolute disgrace to Queen and to all its longtime fans if Adam Lambert would front the band from now on.

No offense, I’m not blind as far as his talent is concerned, cause he is a talented vocalist no doubt, but for him to represent a very respected band that has an amazing history and die-hard dedicated fans, would be a “slap in the face” to all of Queen’s lifetime-dedicated fans.

He’s a contestant on a TV show for God’s sake,he had no previous experience in any sort of world-renoumned band, and so on…

He’s got a wide range, yes, but he belongs in the theaters, not sharing the stage alongside rock music’s finest.

sad day in rock | 5/26/2009, 7:12 pm EST

Wrong on so many levels for BOTH Queen and the Idol guy. And anyone who knew anything about Freddie knows that he wouldn’t like this but I guess after 18 years, it doesn’t matter to them any more.

Maggie | 5/26/2009, 7:23 pm EST

If Queen thought living in the shadow of Freddie Mercury was hard, wait until this inevitable hook-up where they’ll find they’re actually the backup band for a reality show contestant.

Jim | 5/26/2009, 8:12 pm EST

Say It’s Not True…

Let Me See | 5/26/2009, 8:33 pm EST

I think if Adam wants it and Queen wants Adam, they should definitely hook up. Mercury is gone. It’s the same as saying a widower or widow should never remarry, which really should be noone’s business but the person who might need companionship. For the sake of “life,” what’s left of it should be enjoyed!

ks | 5/26/2009, 9:28 pm EST

Why is it that Queen fans are so accepting of other singers stepping in and performing with Queen, yet…when Adam’s name is mentioned for this role….all h**l breaks loose? Think about it people. Why didn’t you think any of the others were “trying to replace Freddie”, yet you think Adam would (NOT that Brian would want/allow that to happen)….but really why do you think that? Why is it that some singers didn’t push your buttons, but this kid does? I’ll tell you why…it’s cuz the kid has an amazing range, and stands on stage in COLOR…both things that Freddie did. I find it entertaining that some of you can say that Freddie wouldn’t approve, or Freddie would be rolling over in his grave. Really?
REALLY? Did you know him personally? I’ll leave that call up to Queen. If they are ok with singing a few songs with Adam for whatEVER reason….I’ll respect them, listen, support and buy the music. Hopefully it will inspire a whole new generation to go back and fall in love with Freddie.

QPR | 5/26/2009, 9:52 pm EST

Actually Queen already hooked up – since 2005 they’ve been with Paul Rodgers. I think when their fans say replace Freddie, it has more to do with comments that they have made in the past and less to do with a new singer. Long story, but I think they feel that they’ve been lied to.

Ron | 5/27/2009, 12:15 am EST

A very long time fan. But I don’t think anyone could take the place of Freddie but to add to Queen would be the best. I do beleive that Adam is that person.

Thanks For All the years of Great Music

Acemeister | 5/27/2009, 1:27 am EST

How low can RS go – repeating idiotic rumors. I’m not an Idol watcher or fan – but I’ve been a Queen fan since way before Rolling Stone started their long term slagging of them. Whether mascara boy has talent or not, Queen would be doing terminal damage by taking on a kid as a vocalist. I traveled to Rotterdam to see Q+PR (never was lucky enough to see the real Queen live) – and Brian and Roger more than delivered real Queen (with all due respect to Freddie’s memory – he can never be replaced). Paul Rodgers was great as well. The teenyboppers who have diminished Rolling Stone to a pale, MTV shadow of what it once was are also fueling this kind of 15 minute fame musician. What a senseless fricking waste of time! Mentioned earlier – Dr. May IS too much of a gentleman to speak up on the ludicrousness (if not a word, it is still apt) of this idea. Queen is the best there ever was!

Huh? | 5/27/2009, 2:10 am EST

(Reposted in order to make sense)

Acemeister,

Adam Lambert has been around a while, he fronted and wrote songs with (individuals from) the band, Citizen Vein, whose members include Monte Pittman (Madonna, Prong), Tommy Victor (Prong, Ministry) and Steve Sidelnyk (Madonna, Seal). He was part of the respected Zodiac Show. There is a reason he has been refered to as the “Real Deal”. Maybe you should check it out on You Tube. As to performing with Queen, I think it won’t damage the band’s reputation to do a few heavily press covered gigs with Lambert. It most definately would be positive to expose a new generation to Freddy and the Gang (like Zeppelin and KISS) and give a new talented guy some decent non A.I. props. (By the way, I nealy pissed myself when Rodgers stepped up to the plate –it took me a long time to get used to it.) Change is hard, but it can be a good thing if we let it happen gracefully. Just sayin’

Merle | 5/27/2009, 8:17 am EST

I love Queen and Freddie Mercury was brilliant but Adam is brilliant, too. I think Queen is smart to have Adam sing with them on occasion. Adam more than held his own when he performed with Queen. How can people not love the guy. So what if he was on a reality show, he outperformed everybody on it, and dared to show the world something different, whether he won or not. Go Adam!!!! Whatever you do, your zillions of fans are behind you 100 per cent.

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 9:16 am EST

Acemeister writes:

“……….Whether mascara boy has talent or not, Queen would be doing terminal damage by taking on a kid as a vocalist……”

my note: and age is relevant because????……..Freddie was younger than this kid when they formed the group..what the hell does age have to do with it?

Acemeister continues:
“I traveled to Rotterdam to see Q+PR (never was lucky enough to see the real Queen live) – and Brian and Roger more than delivered real Queen (with all due respect to Freddie’s memory – he can never be replaced). Paul Rodgers was great as well.”

my note:
and once again I ask…if these guys were acceptable to you as people who could sing with Queen, why the hell does Lambert push your button so much…what the f*** is the difference?…is it because he reminds some people of Freddie?? really … I want to understand what the difference is

Kracked | 5/27/2009, 10:25 am EST

what a mistake that would be. Leave the queen legacy alone, already.

So you would say..... | 5/27/2009, 10:47 am EST

That Brian May and Roger Taylor can’t make music again? As long as there is a market for the brand they should be allowed to dust it off.

Now I don’t forsee Adam actually joining Queen as his primary gig. Both Brian and Roger have said many times that Queen isn’t their number one priority in life anymore. They prefer not to do any massive tours or serious promotion for any new music they put out. I would see it as now more than a show or two every once in a while, and maybe a live cd/dvd or even a record ONE DAY. Adam happens to be a much better choice than Paul Rogers for that. Also, if Adam does a solo record, you can bet that at least Brian would be a part of that in studio.

If Adam Lambert joins a band, he either needs to join Velvet Revelover or put an all-star lineup together: here’s an idea

Guitar- John 5
Guitar- James Iha
Bass- Jason Newstead
Drums- Josh Freese
Keyboards- Stephen Bier (Madonna Wayne Gacey)

i think brian may have had that moment when he heard Adam Lambert sing

Of course I love Freddie like no other, and no one could ever replace him, but I believe Adam would be fairly adequate to front Queen, and it would be a great match. However, I think Adam should go his own way and do his own thing. I’m looking foward to hearing something cool, like a mix of Bowie, Queen, and even The New York Dolls maybe. Anyhoo, I love Lambert, but I think it would be wise of him to do his own thing. But let me ask you all one question, don’t you think Lambert is much more suitable than that fuckin Paul Rodgers was?

Greg | 5/27/2009, 11:41 pm EST

Damn it, I wish Brian May would move towards his solo career that he started. He is god damn talented in his own right. He sings great, and he plays guitar great. He’s written many of Queen’s songs, so he’s obviously capable of writing. As much as I love Queen (they are my favorite band ever), I just wish Brian would spread his wings more.

flatbread | 5/27/2009, 11:55 pm EST

what no one mentiions, but i will, is that QUeen aint that good,… ever check out their “greatest hits #2″ ?absolute shite…….

and greatest hits #1–is mostly a collection of novelty songs… with lame ass lyrics..and i dont think they really even rock that hard….

so for those who think its a bad move for Adam to go with Queen, that is one reason why …

Greg | 5/28/2009, 12:14 am EST

flatbread- Your opinion of Queen is obviously based solely on their greatest hits. While there are some good songs on those, most of their best songs aren’t found on the greatest hits. The greatest hits CDs weren’t arranged by innate song quality, they were arranged based on their popularity, radio time, billboard position, sales, etc.

Songs like Great King Rat, Brighton Rock, The Prophet’s Song, Good Company, ‘39, Death On Two Legs, Dragon Attack, The Millionaire Waltz, Dead On Time, Liar, Ogre Battle, etc. are not on the greatest hits CDs, even though they are better than the bulk of the songs on the greatest hits discs, especially disc 2. In my opinion, the Queen greatest hits collection is basically Queen with training wheels.

flatbread | 5/28/2009, 2:21 am EST

Greg, point taken, and youre right, it is the hits that i am most familiar with..will take yer advice and check out the other stuff… ..

Adam has the “OBAMA” affect on us … the same unexplicable appeal is there. That puts a lot of pressure on Adam though because we expect it all – and we don’t even know what that is exactly! Thoughts …..

I think he done the right thing !! And when you look all the interviews this guy knows what he wants!

dlt | 5/28/2009, 12:47 pm EST

My mistake. Paul Rodgers also couldn’t replace Mercury.

Funny combination: Rodgers and Queen. Rhythim and blues Rodgers and Opera-Mercury. (But Mercury was a big Jimi Hendrix fan.) Brian May and Roger Taylor should be able to find many vocalists, right?

Heather | 5/28/2009, 3:41 pm EST

OK, well the good news is that Freddie is face up again. He rolled over once when Queen showed up on American Idol, and then again with this Lambert nonsense.

What is the matter with people? Et tu, Brian? I’m stabbing my eyes and ears with a screwdriver at the very thought of witnessing such a thing for real (and not on a cheesy Idol finale). It’s not about living in the past, it’s about the wisdom of casting a legendary band like Queen with a thoroughly overrated screeching actor, when you could presumably find a person with actual music in his (or her) soul.

Chris | 5/29/2009, 5:15 pm EST

I think they should leave it there, now, for doing Queen songs.. Fair do’s, create an album with someone, but please don’t call it
‘Queen + so and so’.

Queen = Freddie, Brian, Roger, and John. I am a big Queen fan, and liked some of the stuff that they did with Paul Rodgers, however, I think it was wrong that they called themselves Queen. Freddie, Brian, Roger and John were Queen.

Steve | 5/31/2009, 12:55 am EST

Yes, Brian and Roger have every right to do this. Yes, it’s their decision. And as a tremendous fan of the original lineup (not to mention a consumer who’s spent hundreds on Queen), I also have the right to express my embarrassment and distaste with what Roger and Brian have done to the Queen legacy. Brian was always my favorite member of the group, but I’ve started to question his judgment, especially after listening to Queen+PR’s album.

Brian and Roger could make great solo albums. Or start another project. But they shouldn’t expect longtime fans to remain silent as they tarnish a great legacy.

Maybe if this doesn’t pan out they can get Celine Dion…

Strange…I jokingly said a few weeks into American Idol “Adam should do some shows with Queen, they have the same energy and entertainment value.” Didn’t think much of it…didn’t realise it may ACTUALLY happen. I’d go see it. LUV’S ADAM. LUV’S QUEEN…could be cool.

This would be an outright atrocity. He is not worthy. There will never be another Freddie Mercury. John Deacon knew that and that’s why he has retired from music, because it will never be what it was. Oh, and for all of you saying Freddie has rolled over in his grave, I agree with the sentiment, but he was cremated and so therefore doesn’t have a grave to roll over in.

I loved F. Mercury but Adam L has it all over him. When Queen came on stage on the finale I thought YES, finally a group worthy of Adam. If they don’t sign him immediately, they’re making a big mistake. Queen has the good sense not to make sexual preference a factor; after all, Mercury was “bi”.

Go Adam and Queen!

As long as Brian May and Roger Taylor are still making music as Queen, I’ll listen and buy their CD’s, no matter who they choose to do the lead singing. They are incredibly talented (listen to the earlier albums). And John Deacon wrote some of their biggest hits and enjoyable songs that were not released on the radio. God, I miss him.

Walking into my living room and seeing Adam perform for the first time was exactly like walking into a friend’s room back in the 80s while she was playing ‘The Game’ Queen album. You just stood there and went ‘wow’. I am sure Adam’s career will take him in many wonderful directions; anything he does, he does well. But I do hope he tours with Queen at least as a special project. It would be a fitting tribute for Freddie, a wonderful showcase for Adam and it would challenge Brian and Roger to go the extra rock mile (as if they could ever help it). And yes, come back John Deacon, all the dodgy hair-do’s of the past are forgiven :-) you wouldn’t want to miss this party! I hope they tour the UK. But no matter, what’s a few plane tickets. ROCK ON ADAM LAMBERT and LONG LIVE QUEEN.

Freddie's Revenge | 8/21/2009, 6:15 pm EST

It’s no secret, says Rolling Stone, that American Idol has written themselves into the red with this character, we’ll play it out to see what’s there with real support, Brian May is really Brad Cummings of England, that’s his real name, and he changed it after Freddie Mercury discovered him in a pauper’s funderal disguise, and he’s kept the Ann Wilson wig on his head ever since, defying his age of 70. Brian is okay, Billy Squire tried the same thing with flanging his sound through the PA with echo, big deal, he was slow but had a nice rock chord sound. Nice work on Bohemian Rhapsody as well, Brian, but really, you don’t have what it takes to push this freak to the front of rock. Case in point, he can only sing on helium, granted it’s “specie driven” and everyone loves Classic Rock, but this guy is a cannibal amongst musicians and is so god awful ugly in person, with his head transplant neck and his wild silk front with scar makeup hairpiece, that only those who look like him or prescribe to his style would support him, and you find them in the gay scenes worldwide. They of course have fielded “name” from Erasure, don’t feel like looking him up but he has the best voice for “Byzantine” superstar voices and he’s very current and still touring, and he laughs when he sees the glamour catastrophe of Brian May. Maybe they should trade wigs and places in music. Hope that hurts, talent is very thin in rock since rock musicians in their 60’s are still better than those in their 20’s, simply because they know what it takes to rock. This guy doesn’t and at best is a talented Kareoke artist.

I so love Adam. I cannot wait to hear the song. He is just the most amazing artist ever!!

Mary | 9/3/2009, 7:24 pm EST

Adams album comes out 11-24. His obligations with AI will be over. He will be on the soundtrack of the movie 2012 to come out in November. Brian heard it and was astounded by the voice, power etc. Adam has said he wants to do his own music and to go out with Queen. I am sure that can be arranged. There is no reason Freddie’s music should not be heard by a new generations. Adam sang Bowie, Aerosmith Cryin, U2 One, Led Zep Whole lotta of love & did expremely well. I have waited since 1991 to hear this music again and now it has come. Brian & Roger know it ,so it WILL happen.HUGE BUCKS for sure !!!
