Clay Aiken Snubs “Idol” Finale, Blasts Adam Lambert’s Pipes

American Idol alum Clay Aiken blasted the show that plucked him from obscurity, as well as this season’s runner-up Adam Lambert, saying, “I thought my ears would bleed” when he heard the glamboyant contestant. It’s the most controversial criticism lobbed at the show from a former Idol since Chris Daughtry told Rolling Stone he thought the show was in a “state of decline.”

Gawker picked up Aiken’s comments, which came in response to a fan question regarding the newly concluded season of Idol — and Aiken didn’t hold anything back. (Check out photos from the star-studded AI finale.)

“I couldn’t be happier about the way [Idol] ended this year,” Aiken wrote. “I only turn the show on once a season, and only to see what the set looks like each year. This year, I happened to turn it [on] during the minute that Adam Lambert was singing’‘Ring of Fire,’ and, at that moment, thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful and slightly frightening.”

Tell us what you really think, Clay. “I wasn’t really a fan and found myself surprised whenever folks told me that they liked him,” Aiken wrote. “Granted, I never saw another performance (and many folks who I trust said that he was great) but I can’t imagine I would have enjoyed it. Just not my cup of tea at all. To each his own.” (Flip through photos of Lambert in all his leather-and-spandex glory.)

Aiken admits he never caught any of Idol victor Kris Allen’s performances, saying that he thinks the Arkansas native won because he is “likable,” before drawing a parallel to his showdown with Ruben Studdard.

“It’s about the person you like,” he wrote. “When Ruben and I were standing next to each other every night (many years ago), you had two equally talented, equally unlikely, equally unpolished contestants, so it really was a matter of taste as to who was voted for. While some may argue that one of us was hyped more than the other, I don’t feel that was the case. However, this year, there was an obvious bias. Not even having watched the show, I can tell you that I was well aware of the bias from the judges as to who should win. In my opinion, that is awfully unattractive. I don’t think I am alone.”

Aiken stated the obvious, saying that the show ultimately comes down to the final night, when “the audience can effectively vote against the person that they don’t want to see win.” He continued, “In the case of season two, this might have happened. There may have been some folks who voted for myself or Ruben because they didn’t like the other of us. I was the nerdy little girly boy who some didn’t want to see win, so they may have voted for Ruben. I don’t know, but again, I feel that Ruben and I were fairly matched.”

He concluded by saying he thinks Allen won due to viewer backlash against Lambert favoritism levied by the judges and ultimately, the show’s producers.

“I think many voters got sick of being told who to vote for,” he wrote. “I think many were turned off by the blatant favoritism shown towards one contestant. Therefore, on that last night, they used their votes against a contestant that they were tired of hearing about and for the contestant who had been written off. And, at the same time, I think they voted against an American Idol that has, for four years now, been more about the slick productions and polished contestants than it has been about finding the raw talent that it did in its first three seasons.”

mikeky | 5/22/2009, 10:28 am EST

clay who?

Jen | 5/22/2009, 10:30 am EST

You SUCK SUCK SUCK clay…..always have!

Kathy | 5/22/2009, 10:31 am EST

You go with your big bad self Clay! Love it!

Jen | 5/22/2009, 10:33 am EST

I agree…Clay who? Whoever he is, he sucks! Sounds like a little bit of jealousy..I looked him up and listened to HIS voice…and What exactly is HE talking about? Again, he sucks!

EX-Claymate | 5/22/2009, 10:34 am EST

People do strange things these days just to get attention! LOL.

I see a CAT FIGHT ala Alexis Colby and Krystle Carrington!

I heard his label dropped him last year. Sad.

MarathonH | 5/22/2009, 10:34 am EST

These comments by Aiken are ridiculous. How can he be so opiniated when he saw only one of Adam’s performances and nothing else of the show? If you didn’t watch then keep your ignorant opinions to yourself. If you had bothered to watch Aiken you’d have seen that Adam was so outstanding each week that the judges had no choice but to praise him extensively, it was so glaringly obvious he was in his own league. The praise was well deserved according to the rest of the world…just maybe not to narrow minded Middle Americans. Let’s face it I’m from the UK and I’ve never even heard of you…but I know all about Adam Lambert.

Jen | 5/22/2009, 10:34 am EST

Did I say that he sucks? :-)

Lorie | 5/22/2009, 10:35 am EST

Really, Clay? REALLY? I always thought you were a gracious person. I never saw this snarky side. As far as Adam and Kris, it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Kris is a sweet, rather generic, but talented singer. Adam is larger than life and commands the stage. Personally, I am an Adam fan. In my younger days I was more Queen than Donny Osmond, so I guess that’s why. But hey, to each his own. I hope Clay is enjoying fatherhood and I wish him well.

Beth | 5/22/2009, 10:36 am EST

Who is Clay Aiken and why should I care what he thinks?

Zoe | 5/22/2009, 10:37 am EST

Clay still sounds a more than a little bitter that he didn’t win Season 2.

Chelie | 5/22/2009, 10:37 am EST

Adam Lambert Rocks!!!

Adam Fan | 5/22/2009, 10:38 am EST

Whatever dude. . .

ana | 5/22/2009, 10:39 am EST

SOOOO, let’s get Clay Aiken to speak up against Adam. Maybe that will cool down the fury brewing that Adam, the clear winner of the season, didn’t get the crown because of his sexual orientation. I mean if CLAY doesn’t like Adam it SURE can’t be because of anything Adam does in his private life now can it? Clay, I didn’t know you are for hire for so cheap! I’d ask you to come sing at our local tavern, but I don’t like or respect you any more.

Kendra | 5/22/2009, 10:40 am EST

I love both Clay and Adam. Clay is right about American Idol. It’s getting old. I wish them both well.

Matthew | 5/22/2009, 10:40 am EST

Hysterical. and dead on. Idol tried to force everyone to love Glambert. I agree with clay, that the shrieking and over the top theatrics got old fast and Idol did try to tell you who to vote for. And even telling Kris “you should just be proud you got this far”…REALLY AI??? I think its hysterical. and the only people pissed about the outcome were Adam fans. Not Kris fans. Deal with it.

Andi | 5/22/2009, 10:40 am EST

Man what sour grapes!

Akashia | 5/22/2009, 10:41 am EST

Apparently Clayken wanted to do a duet with Adam but was turned down by the AI producers. He was even escorted out the door!

This is why he is this bitter!

Charles | 5/22/2009, 10:41 am EST

Saw you on Broadway….No wonder you call yourself raw talent.

Adam has talent that you only wish you had!

cg | 5/22/2009, 10:42 am EST

He’s seen only Adam’s most famously weird performance this season, and judges him on that?

This guy sounds more than a little bitter towards a show that provided him with the nice living he now enjoys as a singer. Most singers, even the good ones, struggle to get any recognition. He’s received a lot in his life, and should not sound so bitter and angry.

yep | 5/22/2009, 10:42 am EST

clay makes my ears hemorrhage.

Toronto girl | 5/22/2009, 10:42 am EST

I think there’re both great.Clay just enjoy your ne son and leave those two new idols alone.

Darky | 5/22/2009, 10:43 am EST

It’s obvious Clay has nothing better to do anymore but look at Idol, pine for the past and bitch about someone who is a few thousand times more talented than he is.

He’s just whining cause he realizes this.

marie Batten | 5/22/2009, 10:43 am EST

he was asked his opinion, and gave it…aka Miss CA…no big deal….Adam has star power equal to that of an early Elvis…Kris is adorable but I do wish he would stop it with the right shoulder shake.

Toronto girl | 5/22/2009, 10:43 am EST

I think there’re both great.Clay just enjoy your new son and leave those two new idols alone.

Julie | 5/22/2009, 10:43 am EST

I cannot believe Clay Aiken is being so snippy. I thought he had a little more self respect and respect for others, apparently not. So Clay are you just jealous that Adam will be a superstar and you’re going to be nothing more than a piece of gum on the shoe of broadway? Seems like it to me.

Kenna | 5/22/2009, 10:43 am EST

In the end… just another opinion. It is what it is… and it is, entertainment. Whoop-de-do

Lexi | 5/22/2009, 10:43 am EST

Clay Aiken is insignificant. I smell a green eyed monster.

bambam | 5/22/2009, 10:43 am EST

Saucer of Milk for one!

kjk | 5/22/2009, 10:44 am EST

Umm… if you’ve only heard one song then why give a full interview about how much your hating on Adam…

Who gives a poo what you think.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 10:46 am EST

Both were talented performers in their own ways. I still believe that Adam should have won..then again, that’s American Idol for you. I have yet seen fair judging in winners in this show. Its a popularity contest when it comes to voting and not on their talents. I see Kris Allen become the next Tyler Hicks, you know he’s a Idol winner but what is he doing now, more like a a “one season wonder”.

nouvellarose | 5/22/2009, 10:46 am EST

I am so sad to hear you make comments on another entertainer. Clay, you were such a humble..mediocre singer. You were and are not Barry Manilow. Kris Allen and Adam are the two best performers that Idol has had. Please refrain from your inner ear thoughts as we all respected you and the American dollar only goes so far. However, I would rather use the extra dollar for a ticket or tune from either Adam or Kris. Good Luck to you Clay..you had your day.

Luvlace | 5/22/2009, 10:47 am EST

The many folks you know were right. He is a great singer!!! Believe me when I tell you I will buy his CD over yours any day.

Shay | 5/22/2009, 10:47 am EST

Way out of line. Clay, you have already faded into obscurity, as will Kris Allen who has a nice singing voice and zero stage presence, charisma or sex appeal.

Adam Lambert is on his way to superstardom. He was praised because he KICKED ASS! And not afraid to be who he is, unlike Clay who strung his fans along how long before you admitted you were gay?

Adam Lambert is the clear winner of this year’s Idol and when his CD comes out, I’ll be first in line.

Mikee | 5/22/2009, 10:47 am EST

Has Clay been out of the spotlight so long now that he has to show his desperation for attention by attacking the show that made him famous?

I’d say he’s acting like a dog that’s biting the hand that feeds him, but that would be an insult to dogs everywhere. Most dogs only get stupid enough to bite the hand that feeds them when they’ve been infected with rabies.

ChristiC | 5/22/2009, 10:47 am EST

I voted my butt off for Clay…but he sounds like a sore loser. Adam makes him look and sound like an amateur. Of course, Clay’s sexuality didn’t hold him back because he lied about it for years. Shame on you Clay for being such a coward.

jrogers | 5/22/2009, 10:48 am EST

Sounds like someone in jealous? Adam was a very humble and gracious guy through the whole show. Very talented and will enjoy a much larger careet in the industry than you did. Judgement should be left to the One who gave us our talents. Just be grateful you have the fans that you do and you have enjoyed the American Dream. Deserved or not, be thankful.

Rocky | 5/22/2009, 10:48 am EST

Clay Aiken is entitled ot express his expert opnion on this based on his accomplishments! If you don’t like Clay’s opinion and believe your opinion should carry more weight, then you go on American Idol, get second place, have your records outsell many of the finalists and then you can express your expert opinion as well based on accomplisments like Clay did. Personally I think his analysis is right on the money.

Trebor | 5/22/2009, 10:49 am EST

The words “Miserable Ingrate” come to mind. Have a nice life Clay.

John | 5/22/2009, 10:49 am EST

Clay is simply pathetic…and Adam is simply awesome!!!!!!
Now I understand why Clay has no talent…he doesnt have the ability to recoginize what talent is!

madge | 5/22/2009, 10:50 am EST

errm, clay is not equally a good singer as Ruben – not at all, sorry mate.

ronnie | 5/22/2009, 10:50 am EST

Clay if Idol had found you where would you be right now? Be greatful…Adam sings better than you ever could or ever will you are a bitter guy get over yourself.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 10:50 am EST

Wow. He making himself out to sound like a real jerk. Wow.

Jean | 5/22/2009, 10:50 am EST

It’s sad to see Clay sink so low. I agree 10% with Lorie. I was, and still am a Queen fan at 62 years old and will be until the end. I can’t wait until that first Adam Lambert album comes out. He will be my second Idol purchase. The first was Carrie’s.

Claying | 5/22/2009, 10:50 am EST

I guess it’s a crime to express an opinion. Most of the time when a celebrity is asked about another, you get the usual safe generic answer that says nothing. I applaud the honesty, especially about the favoritism toward Lambert.

Jean | 5/22/2009, 10:50 am EST

grego | 5/22/2009, 10:51 am EST

sour sour sour

lexi | 5/22/2009, 10:51 am EST

Never did care for his voice, and he always rubbed me the wrong way. Seemed to have a snarky, mean type of attitude to me. I am happy for both Adam and Kris. Although Adam is more my style, I can appreciate Kris’ talent and definitely think they are both class acts and very deserving of the wonderful futures that await them. I do think Adam should have won based on talent alone, but I’m not terribly upset with the outcome. It’s not like it’s going to slow him down at all!

NYJ | 5/22/2009, 10:52 am EST

ZZZZzzzz…neither one of them (nor most of the contestants since day one) has any musical integrity.

Doobie Keebler | 5/22/2009, 10:52 am EST

The funniest thing I’ve seen in print this week: “Glambert” . . . any truth to the rumor he’ll be taking over for Paul Rodgers?

lisak | 5/22/2009, 10:52 am EST

What a bitter guy .. too bad …

I think maybe he’s a bit too full of himself and believes as a “celebrity” he can share opinions based on no experience or information …

Hunter | 5/22/2009, 10:54 am EST

I agree w/Aiken. Every word. My ears bled with every Adam song and Idol so totally sucks as a TV show.

Problem is AI has tons of money and that gives them power. Watch out Aiken. They may treat you like crap. Oh..wait. The already have.

Deborah | 5/22/2009, 10:54 am EST

i totally agree with Clay! The judges were trying to focus in on Adam. Sure he can be a big hit but he changed himself and his pants for every song! Who was he really as an artist? He was like Halloween for every song. i want to buy a CD from an artist who writes and sings and plays the instruments not dress up in fancy clothes. i want to hear a song that makes me think or be happy or reflect. i like Chris and i will buy his music. i like Adam and probably wont buy his cd. Chris deserved to win he was humble and gracious and will be a star for a lifetime and not be a fly by night like so many. He is true to himself and i totally resent the judges voiicing their favaoritism, they should critique but not insult. And that was a horrible show all the glitz and no quality, so whos next year? where are the down to earth people? i agree with Clay that sometimes my ears were hurting when Adam sang it grated on my nerves! I love Clay and i wish him all the luck!

gramma cindy | 5/22/2009, 10:54 am EST

I was (key word: was) a Clay Aiken fan — he’s a talented singer. But this gramma is an Adam Lambert fan to the core. He is undeniably the most talented person that EVER set foot on the Idol stage. He leaves Clay in his dust. All praise by the judges was totally warranted throughout. And, Clay, Adam has more class and humility in his little finger than you will ever have. Your comments, based on lack of personal knowledge or observation, were totally unwaranted. As far as Kris — he is cute, talented — but generic. White-bread, middle-class America just won’t vote for someone with the talent that Adam has. Which is OK – Adam is going to be big anyway. As far as I am concerned, he already is.

Deedle | 5/22/2009, 10:55 am EST

Clay’s entitled to his opinion, but it should be based on having listened to Adam. Ring of Fire wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but Adam is a wonderful singer and entertainer. Sounds like sour grapes. Just to Track of My Tears and see if you still feel the same.

Stephen | 5/22/2009, 10:56 am EST

I’m a huge Kris Allen fan and voted for Clay to win, I can’t believe he’s acting like this. It almost makes me glad he lost.

Joanne B' | 5/22/2009, 10:56 am EST

Clay Aiken is a bitter loser who has to detract from someone elses talent to get attention for himself.

annanna | 5/22/2009, 10:57 am EST

I voted for Kris for that exact reason—favoritism shown by judges. And I was an Adam fan. Also, sometimes the runners-up fare better than the winners (Daughtry for example). I think they both will do fine. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Adam fronting for a well-known band sometime soon, even if only temporarily!

PAUL | 5/22/2009, 10:57 am EST

Clay,
I understand you have a few bucks and somewhat of a career now, BUT the one thing my mom always said “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you”. Shame on you, you really sound like a crying lil Mary! Get over yourself, You just lost your strongest asset Humility!

And? | 5/22/2009, 10:58 am EST

Clay who? Exactly Who cares what Clay thinks? Bitter much?

ElleDee | 5/22/2009, 10:58 am EST

wow! such hostility!
Clay may be partially correct about the reasoning behind the voting… but he shouldn’t be so vocal about the rest of the show and Adam and Kris’s talent if he didn’t even bother to tune in. That part of the opinion is completely worthless.

Sandy | 5/22/2009, 10:59 am EST

Very unprofessional Clay. You made a decision on one performance. You didn’t even bother to watch a show that made you famous. Adam Lambert’s style may not appeal to the masses, but you can not argue against the fact that he is an amazing vocalist. I’m disappointed that Clay would be so negative toward someone he doesn’t even know. Shame on you! You’ve lost my vote, Clay.

Marty | 5/22/2009, 10:59 am EST

Good For Clay……He was asked and question and answered. Adam is not his cup of tea…..big deal. The blog was more about Idol and their problems. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t agree that Idol has to do some revamping…even the viewership numbers tell us that.

Thanks, Clay fro being honest!

Cindy | 5/22/2009, 10:59 am EST

What this article didnt show you is the question from the fan. The question was “Have you heard Adam Lambert sing? He said he only heard him sing one time and that was “Ring of Fire”…..I loved Adam but I agree with Clay…”Ring of Fire” made my ears bleed too. Think people….Remember THAT song? It was awful. Simon even said “What the hell was that?”. Clay clearly said he only heard Adam sing one song. So typical of journalism…they only get the bits and pieces they need to get people to read their articles….SAD

musicdelite | 5/22/2009, 11:00 am EST

To his own admission Clay didn’t watch the show, saw only a bit of one song Adam did and didn’t even see Kris at all and yet he says he is happy how the show turned out??? HUH?

Frankie | 5/22/2009, 11:00 am EST

Sour grapes anyone? Clay you are nothing compared to Adam Lambert. Get over yourself you are not relative or that great!

LisaH | 5/22/2009, 11:00 am EST

Can you say prima donna? Adam is gracious and classy — Clay should follow his lead.

MOI | 5/22/2009, 11:00 am EST

Aiken hit the nail on the head. American Idol needs to get back to its roots and stop with the over pimping of certain performers. I didn’t even watch this season and knew all about Lambert – he was everywhere. How is that fair to the other contestants? Why even have the show if you crown the winner and then over promote that person? Oh yeah, MONEY! This year’s Season Finale was the second lowest viewed in 8 years – what does that tell you?

Also, I’m very concerned about the reading comprehension of the American public.

Stephen | 5/22/2009, 11:00 am EST

Claying,

“Re: I guess it’s a crime to express an opinion.”

It’s not a crime to express an opinion, but how one does it that matters. And if the stories that Clay demanded to meet Lambert are true and that

Joanne B' | 5/22/2009, 11:00 am EST

Clay Aiken is a washed up never was who has to detract from someone elses talent to get attention for himself.

IAgree | 5/22/2009, 11:00 am EST

We all have our own opinions of the talent and I think regardless of who “won” – Clay is dead on about what happened this season, the bias – how it works – why it was such a let down etc.

Lee | 5/22/2009, 11:01 am EST

Rolling Stone is still bitter that Clay had one of their best-selling cover in years. Way to intentionally miss the whole point of his blog. That’s what he wrote:

“I think many voters got sick of being “told who to vote for”. I think many were turned off by the blatant favoritism shown towards one contestant. Therefore, on that last night, they used their votes against a contestant that they were tired of hearing about and for the contestant who had been written off. And, at the same time, I think they voted AGAINST an American Idol that has, for four years now, been more about the slick productions and polished contestants than it has been about finding the raw talent that it did in its first three seasons.

Those votes for Kris were also votes to return the show to its roots of finding “real” contestants with undiscovered talent and giving them the chance to grow and shine. They were votes that said “we’re tired of seeing contestants who already seem to know it all”.”

melody | 5/22/2009, 11:01 am EST

I have to agree with Clay in regards to the final voting. I do believe that a lot of fans voted for Kris because they were sick of the judges talking up Adam. I also wish they would go back to the way the show was in the beginning when it was about finding the raw talent and lay off all of the showy stuff.

Stephen | 5/22/2009, 11:02 am EST

And if the stories that Clay demanded to meet Lambert are true and that Idol refused…well, it just makes Clay look bad…and bitter. It’s kinda sad.

jamie | 5/22/2009, 11:03 am EST

I agree with his assessment. I was so tired of hearing about Adam Lambert, I DID vote for Kris, though he wasn’t my fav to win. My fav got voted off earlier.

jealous much | 5/22/2009, 11:04 am EST

he seemed to know a lot about the show for someone who didnt watch. Everyone knew clay was gay on idol as well. we just had no pictures to prove it. Adam will do well because he’s a polarizing fiqure, nobody cares about clay. he has gotten a bit of an attitude though, He should learn to show the same amount of class that kris and adam do.

suzie | 5/22/2009, 11:04 am EST

Sure, Adam is indiscribably an awesome performer. That’s a given. He should become an icon. He has talent that goes beyond just recording. He is a “performer” and should be on a big set stage. He does need to hone down his screaming a bit I think and only use it on the rare song that needs it. He is lucky to be in second place because he does not fit the corporate bill for the winner. He just is not the Disney performer.

Melissa | 5/22/2009, 11:05 am EST

Wow I never like Clay before and now . . . What a prick!

Clay makes my ears bleed.

Numa | 5/22/2009, 11:05 am EST

It sad when you have to dismiss someone else’s talent to make yourself feel better, If you do not know the subject matter refrain from speaking, because Adam Lambert is very talented young man and I will definitely buy his first CD. I feel that America got it wrong, or AI phone system was wrong but I do know that Clay Aiken is so wrong he may need to get some of his Claymates to make him some new Clay and to mold a new attitude.

chrissy | 5/22/2009, 11:05 am EST

Adam isn’t for everyone-and that’s fine. His comments are a bit mean spirited and bitter, but that’s his opinion. I personally love Adam and his music and can’t wait to see what he does next. Kris is a sweet guy, and I wish him the best, but yeah, I prefer Adam.

Tracy | 5/22/2009, 11:05 am EST

Clay did not get escorted out of the Idol studio. It did not happen. He did not attempt to meet Adam or ask to duet with him. They have two different styles. If I were Clay, I’d be annoyed that the media continued to propagate this lie. I, too, am sickened by the Adam hype from the judges. Let the public decide. And the condescending attitude toward Kris was disturbing. Those of you who say Clay Aiken has no talent are the bitter ones. I think he’s a wonderful talent. Adam is talented, too, but I do not enjoy his style at all. Clay did not trash him, and I sincerely doubt he is bitter about not “winning.” I think he’s just fed up, as am I and as are many others, with the change in attitude about Idol. You tell ‘em, Clay.

JA1 | 5/22/2009, 11:06 am EST

Clay C’mon stop hating. Gene Simmons is not hating.

Hey Adam Lambert! You’re No. 1 with Gene Simmons
Adam Lambert, who performed with KISS during the “American Idol” finals, is always welcome to perform with the band, says KISS frontman Gene Simmons.

kola | 5/22/2009, 11:06 am EST

I completely agree with his assessment of AI, which is really what the blog is about, not Adam. So he didn’t like what little he saw of him. So what. The bigger point, though, is the judges pimping certain contestants and manipulating the show and moving away from the original premise of the show.

Jean (another one) | 5/22/2009, 11:06 am EST

Rocky you are out of line, Clay you are out of line.

Clay how dare you assume you know how the voters vote and why. I liked both singers and I voted for the one I thought had more talent then the other and YES both were very talented. I voted for Adam and I stand by my vote. I did not vote to slight a show.

I will say this Clay… I think the sour grapes from you come from the fact that this season had more talent then any season that preceded it! So shut up Clay, we really don’t care what you think and no, you are NOT correct.

chrissy | 5/22/2009, 11:06 am EST

Adam isn’t for everyone-and that’s fine. His comments are a bit mean spirited and bitter, but that’s his opinion and he has every right to have one. I personally love Adam and his music and can’t wait to see what he does next. Kris is a sweet guy, and I wish him the best, but yeah, I prefer Adam.

Hey Clay, you’re entitled to your opinion…however, bitter you sound, considering you were a nobody and now you have a music career (of sorts). About the “raw talent” thing, though. I’m getting sick of raw talent angle, man, because if it wasn’t for Adam Lambert this year I would’ve given up on this show LOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGG ago! While the rest of the raw talent on AI typically grows during exposure to the show, this year it was turned upside down. It was ADAM who GREW THE SHOW!!! I’m sorry, man, Adam didn’t mean to do it, he just came out and did his thing with his amazing talent, vocals and over the top performances and people were tuning in and voting in record numbers. Sorry, but “raw talent” just isn’t doing it for me any more on this show. Frankly, if a talent this amazing has to stand in 2nd place, really, what hope does AI have of annointing a super star EVER??? Now, all the glory has to go to Kris, yet another “easy listening” performer. AMERICAN IDOL is over for good, as far as I’m concerned.

AudreyLee | 5/22/2009, 11:07 am EST

Clay who? I thought “experts” speak based on knowledge. Clay didn’t even watch the shows. This is known as being “opinionated”, not expertise. Clay, should take a quick look at ITune sales…the sales speak for themselves!

PCo214 | 5/22/2009, 11:07 am EST

Hey, Clay….I’m 60 and just want to ask you, Who peed on your Cheerios? Adam totally rocked and his career will far outlast yours. I never realized what a Bitter Betty you are.

sidd | 5/22/2009, 11:07 am EST

I think it is funny people said their ears bled…there were hardly any high notes in Ring of Fire…the singing itself was rather subdued…It think people are just uncomfortable with something different from the status quo and are trying to rationalize it as something else.

suzie | 5/22/2009, 11:08 am EST

Clay has a few points that are valid, but he does come off as being a bit begrudging…..Clay Aiken has an awesome voice too, but has never been promoted by himself to continue on the fast track. I have always thought that Clay should be on Broadway and continue to think that. I think he would be an awesome musical performer. Think about it Clay.

adamluver | 5/22/2009, 11:08 am EST

clay is just jealous of adam cause adam is WAAAYYYY too much better than him!

some also said that clay is only saying this kind of things because adam refused to have a duet with him.

tsk tsk. POOR CLAY!
just accept that adam is better than you. PERIOD!

pinklollypop | 5/22/2009, 11:08 am EST

Adam has more talent in his guyliner, than Clay has in his whole body. This is pure jealousy on Clay’s part.

Sally | 5/22/2009, 11:09 am EST

Sounds like Clay is EXTREMELY jealous of Adam’s talent. Afraid that Adam will be a megastar (which he will be and has garnered more praise than any other Idol). Probably jealous that Adam is so hot and gorgeous and such a kind-hearted person and very articulate. Clay, you’re boring and plain.

Jean (another one) | 5/22/2009, 11:09 am EST

To MarathonH. Please do not attack Americans because of Clay Aikens. Thanks.

cliffdiver11 | 5/22/2009, 11:10 am EST

Clay… have you become bitter or what? Your comments are unjustified. How do you know that judges favored Adam if you never watched the show except or one performance and then you judge Adam on that that one? If you would have been judged on one performance, you wouldn’t have gone as far as you did.

Bid fan of Kris, glad he won. Big fan of Adam – probably equally deserved to win and will go far. Always a fan of Clay… but come off that pedestal.

Kate in Chicago | 5/22/2009, 11:11 am EST

I am 60 years old and will listen to Adam Lambert anyday and can’t wait for his first album. I have downloaded every Adam idol performance. HE IS THE MOST TALENTED PERFORMER IDOL HAS EVER HAD. Clay has forgotten where he came from and who gave him his break.

jealous much | 5/22/2009, 11:11 am EST

you know its funny, a lot of sites put negative articles on adam because they new that his supporters and dedicated ones at that, would read and comment. Would anybody care what clay said if he wasn’t dissing adam and idol. Way to go clay , you fiqured out how the media works, but you’re still a moron.

Kyle | 5/22/2009, 11:11 am EST

I can’t take his opinion seriously if he’s not even watching the show. He sure drew a lot of conclusions from the one tiny segment he saw; plus, he also made a broad swipe at the entire last 4 seasons.

Right or wrong, how could he have come to ANY conclusion if he’s not even watching the show to begin with.

michelle | 5/22/2009, 11:13 am EST

clay Aiken??? please…. when did this piece of S**t become newsworthy??? oh, when he talks about ADAM…of course! You s**k Aiken, and American Idol will never again see the likes of the huge talent they had on the finale show, because they will go back to being a 2nd rate kareoke show. you watch and see!

Lay Clakin | 5/22/2009, 11:14 am EST

Spoken like a true girl way to go out with a bang Clay. Can’t you girls just get along? Adam has a great range and can sing Rings of Fire around you..don’t be jealous

Carrie | 5/22/2009, 11:14 am EST

Mr. Aiken is right on the money. American Idol is no longer about finding undiscovered talent, it is about locating and pimping an already polished performer in an attempt to anoint them as the “chosen one” and make lots and lots of money off of them!
And for what it is worth, I totally agree with Mr. Aiken’s views on Adam Lambert. He made my ears bleed too!!! Often!!!
Someone needs to explain to Adam that it is called SINGING, not SCREECHING!! Someone should also explain to him that staying in key is a good idea, a little drama goes a long way and just because you can scream it long and loud does not mean it is a good idea to do so every single time! Less is more Adam.
Of course this is just MY opinion, which I have a right too, just like Clay Aiken has a right to his. Or at least I thought that was how it worked in America.

gb | 5/22/2009, 11:15 am EST

Clay who? Adam ROCKS!

Lee | 5/22/2009, 11:16 am EST

I think it’s funny how people get their panties in a bunch when someone dislikes Adam’s singing, but don’t think twice about slamming Clay’s voice. How is that different?

queenrosered | 5/22/2009, 11:18 am EST

Clay has the unmitigated audacity to speak negatively about an ICON that can outsing him while gagged and bound?? REALLY Clay? Seriously? Based on ONE song?? LMAO! What a farce, a true travisty. The judges told everyone all season when and how they had it wrong and what to do to correct their performances. Adam simply didn’t NEED much guidance and the judges got that right.A few years from now (not very many either) people will be saying “Clay who? Kris who?” while purchasing Lambert CDs and concert tickets!
Adam single-handedly has brought back rock and glamor as well as class and great vocals to the American music scene and will go on to be a MEGA-STAR! Clay?? Eat your mean little heart out! Glambert #2516. :)

first timer | 5/22/2009, 11:19 am EST

Tsk tsk insecurity brings out the worst in ppl. Adam will be much more successful than Clay ever will be. He has style, charisma, talent…and much nicer!!

Jean (another one) | 5/22/2009, 11:19 am EST

It is different Lee because Adam is more talented then Clay as a singer. It’s also different in that Adam as a person did not slam Clay Aiken. Clay is wrong. And when you are wrong you are subject to correction.

CaroleSNewZealand | 5/22/2009, 11:20 am EST

Clay, up until I read your comments above, you were my other most favourite Idol contestant, along with Fantasia. I watched the final and finale here in NZ last night – I still can’t understand how Kris won over Adam – even Kris doesn’t understand!! And have you ever heard Ryan bring the 2nd placegetter back on at the end, like he did with Adam – I haven’t! And I recall Simon’s comments to Adam after No Boundaries – “I’m not going to judge the song (Good for you, Simon – it was crap!) I’m going to judge you. Over the entire season you have been one of the best, most original contestants we’ve ever had on this show…and the whole idea about doing a show like this, is that you hope that you can find a world wide star. I genuinely believe, with all my heart, that we have found that with you. Congratulations.” So how come Simon got it so right and America got it so wrong? But after reading these comments of yours, all I can say is, even though you have come out of the closet, you are still not out to yourself. Shame on you.

rebeca | 5/22/2009, 11:20 am EST

Most of the coments about Clays’
statement are full of hate and an-
ger and you guys critizase him?A-
ren’t this contests about talent
and nice entreteinment?We are tur-
ning evereything into confrontacion and who is more ofensive or bitter.Come on American youth try to see the beauty of life and enjoy it.Why are we so angry?

Peter | 5/22/2009, 11:21 am EST

Too bad you don’t have the kind of talent that Adam has, Clay. Never have never will. Tell you what is unattractive, your jealousy and your opinion based on watching one song!! Adam is the most creative singer ever to be on American Idol. Thank God for him, or I wouldn’t have watched the whole season.

TN | 5/22/2009, 11:22 am EST

So Aiken thinks the show overhyped Adam? Well, so does almost every other person to comment on it. Big deal. The show sucks now. No fun and those judges need to be replaced.

Mike | 5/22/2009, 11:23 am EST

Who’s Clay anyway? fuck off.

Eva | 5/22/2009, 11:23 am EST

This is soooo funny. Especially since its being reported Clay wanted to duet with Lambert and Idol wouldn’t let him (Aiken) near Lambert….HaaaHaaa!

Jean (another one) | 5/22/2009, 11:23 am EST

Carrie, Adam was undiscovered.

You opionion is full of bull as well. Blah, blah, blah, in saying the show was about undiscovered talent… Adam was not discovered prior to Idol. He is discovered now though!

The Truth | 5/22/2009, 11:27 am EST

Clay Aiken is awful and always has been. King of the Tools! Like anyone listens to anything he has ever said or will ever say.

Sherry | 5/22/2009, 11:27 am EST

I’m sorry Clay, but the REASON the judges showed such favoritism for Adam, and he was ALL OVER THE PLACE in the news/media is that Adam Lambert DESERVES such praise. People who voted for Kris just because they couldn’t DEAL with that TRUTHFULNESS that he was SO much better than all the other contestants just really need to get OVER IT! This IS a competition about who is the BEST and the judges opinions are just their opinions, the fact that so many others this season AGREED with them should not have worked against Adam. Honestly I’m SICK of people voting for the ‘underdog’ or voting for #2 just because they liked #3 and their guy/gal didn’t get through..Danny Gokey Fans. I voted for YOU Clay, because I thought YOU were the best, and I feel like the same thing happened to you that happened to Adam this week. I can’t BELIEVE you can’t see that!! I agree with an earlier post, in all 8 seasons we have NEVER seen the likes of Adam’s talent, and I was so hoping he would win so that equally talented ENTERTAINERS would give Idol a shot and KEEP it entertaining in years to come. It NEEDS that kind of talent to keep it going! I was just ECSTATIC to see Adam EVERY POSSIBLE WEEK. I was in HEAVEN when he sang with Queen..waited ALL SEASON FOR THAT. And for the record I thought Ring of Fire was BRILLIANT!! He is DEFINITELY my cup of tea! Cannot wait to see him on the tour, just a little disappointed that if the format is the same as past years he won’t get to sing as many songs as Kris. For CERTAIN the climax to that show will be BEFORE the end of the show! And finally, I hope that NOT winning will NOW allow us to see Adam doing something else SOONER after the tour than we would see him if he was under an Idol contract!! Will MISS seeing him every week..but now I have my iTunes CD of all 14 performances..it is AWESOME!!!!

Holly | 5/22/2009, 11:28 am EST

Quit putting Clay down….I’m an Adam fan as well as a Clay fan…Clay is not jealous of Adam…why should he be? Clay has accomplished much in his professional as well as in his personal life….Adam is yet to be seen. Clay just stated his personal opinion of Adam and I do think seeing even one performance by Adam can give you a good idea of what he’s all about…his style.
It doesn’t have to be Clay OR Adam..there’s plenty of business for both.

Magda South Africa | 5/22/2009, 11:28 am EST

Clay, jealousy makes one nasty. Adam has a wonderful voice and a unique style.

Barry Manilow | 5/22/2009, 11:28 am EST

Hey Clay I want my style back. You stole it and I am making a comeback!

Karin | 5/22/2009, 11:29 am EST

haha this makes me laugh. Another vanilla idol expressing his opinion. Someone else said this but it bears repeating. Adam was extremely gracious and sweet throughout, you should take a lesson from him Clay. This makes you look BAD.
And I LOVED Ring of Fire, I bought it. It’s an unusual version but if you truly listen to the studio version it’s hauntingly beautiful.
That’s the difference between Clay and Adam, I never thought twice about Clay but Adam makes me excited about music for the first time in years…..

Pen | 5/22/2009, 11:29 am EST

I don’t know if this is true.

I thought Clay likes Adam. Because he wanted to meet him a few weeks before but didn’t get to because the AI producers did not allow him

Clay Aiken | 5/22/2009, 11:30 am EST

I amke my own ears bleed when I sing. I am that much of a d-bag!

Clay Aiken | 5/22/2009, 11:31 am EST

I make my own ears bleed when I sing. I am that much of a d-bag!

Jean (another one) | 5/22/2009, 11:31 am EST

To Carol, here is what I think happened. We had two amazing talents. With two very different styles. It was not a matter of picking one you don’t like, but rather picking just one. And that is where Clay gets lost in bitterness. This simple equation never enters the picture in his shallow little mind. The negative overshadows the truth for Clay, and he picks that version over the seemingly obvious fact that many voters liked both singers. I voted for Adam, but I like Kris too. Although I think Adam is the most talented contestant Idol has ever had, even over Carrie, and Carrie up to now has been my fav. I still love you Carrie! But now I love Adam too :)

I think America loves both contestants. Both men are headed to great singing careers.

And that’s what I think happened. It is not ebil or full of bias like Clay would like to think.

Clay just want to be famous | 5/22/2009, 11:32 am EST

Clay who? You don’t have to say that for public to remember your name. Adam is way more famous and you are just trying to put negative comments to draw attention. Give me a break, all marketing/PR person can see your trick. Adam only need to stand on the stage to make a mark in the history and Clay, you are just going to be forgotten quickly.

Belle | 5/22/2009, 11:33 am EST

Clay Aiken was asked for his opinion and he gave it. I guess he could have lied so everyone would feel better? He also said that Adam was probably a really nice guy. This same blog has been copied and pasted so many times now that it has become blown up out of all proportion.

I’m a Adam fan and didn’t care for his version of ‘Ring of Fire’ either – not too many people did. Nor did Simon. So what!

Kiss wrote on his blog that Adam was no rocker and should stick to ballads. His opinion and he’s entitled – so why the big hoopla here and all over the internet?

Clay is right about American Idol and what it has become. The more glitz they add, with more experienced contestants – the more the viewership drops. Adam for instance has over 15 years of stage experience so I would expect him to be good as well as confident.

nica | 5/22/2009, 11:34 am EST

Clay, you are just plain jealous!!!
FYI: Ring of Fire is the prformance that got millions upon millions of people totally “addicted” to Adam’s talent!
I never bought anything you produced, but I have bought EVERUTHING available from Adam – and will continue doing so!!!
Thank heavens for ADAM LAMBERT!!!!

Rick | 5/22/2009, 11:34 am EST

OMG! Clay Aiken dared to have an opinion!! What’s the world coming to now? What he has to say must be important, it sure has made news. You go, Clay!

Sharon | 5/22/2009, 11:35 am EST

People are entitled to INFORMED opinions. Given that Clay only saw one performance of Adam’s, and none of Kris’s, his opinion of the contestants isn’t worth the bandwidth being used to report it. All he accomplished is to come off sounding bitter and jealous. Not only is Adam a huge talent, he’s also comfortable with who he is…something I doubt Clay Aiken is to this day, even after he finally managed to step out of that transparent closet he was in for so long. Clay, grow up.

O | 5/22/2009, 11:35 am EST

who on earth is clay aiken?!?? up until this moment YOU were unknown! now i know that you were an idol contestant. damn!

dlt | 5/22/2009, 11:36 am EST

angelgirl | 5/22/2009, 11:37 am EST

Wow..

Not very classy Clay…..I didn’t realize you were like that

Clay Aiken | 5/22/2009, 11:39 am EST

I am really lying and I want to use this forum to admit that Barry Manilow is my real father

allana Cee | 5/22/2009, 11:39 am EST

I was barely a rock fan before Adam Lambert. I have never felt that ” I can’t wait for an artist to release a single before”. Now I can’t wait to hear what he is going to do. No one should judge anything on what they have heard from someone else. I had written American Idol off until I heard all the talent this year. I liked alot of the performers. I especially liked the last 4. Of them all Adam became my favorite after the third show. I do think judges comments caused Adam to lose his million dollars in winnings. They should have learned by now to keep comments like the ones made surrounding Adam to themselves. Their comments always destroys someone’s chances and saves someone’ chances. My daughter and I both feel the best thing happened to Adam when he lost, simply because now he will have more control over his first single and CD. That song written by Kara and friends was horrible. Adam will make tons more money than what he lost in that contest. Thanks to the contest we know who Adam Lambert is, and can look to forward to his future accomplishments.

ashywashy | 5/22/2009, 11:40 am EST

i love adam hes a powerhouse and the sad thing about clay bashing him is adam is way to nice to beak him back, he would accept the critism and he would probaly tell clay hes a great guy and he respects him!!

Chatty Cathy | 5/22/2009, 11:40 am EST

Clay,I always enjoyed listening to your voice. You have a very beautiful voice. Please give ADAM the credit he deserves. It is his time to let the world enjoy his GREAT talent. ADAM is an incrediblely talented person. What a very special gift he has and so gooood looking !!! We are looking forward to his first album. Clay be nice…You had your chance….Let Adam have His !!!

Wanker McGit | 5/22/2009, 11:40 am EST

For the record, Aiken’s voice is soooo annoying. Freakin’ broadway fake emotions. He obviously doesn’t like other ‘queens’ and he probably has the hots for the dude who won. period.

Sue Sanders | 5/22/2009, 11:41 am EST

I will agree that both Chris and Adam was great but how do you compair rock with country They both are great in thier own world I believe that Chris’s fans were able to get more votes in than Adam There should only be one vote per person to really know the true winner was. I was for Chris but Adam will go a long way I am not a rock person but he was right in there with Kiss. One other thing the judges should keep their oponies to themself I think they hurt Adam because of it.

Sue Sanders | 5/22/2009, 11:41 am EST

veritas | 5/22/2009, 11:41 am EST

Silly Clay. Doesn’t he know that the only singer it’s PC to trash, bash, and insult is himself?

What a bunch of nasty hypocrites commenting.

You also left out lots of that blog, where he qualifies more of his statements. The intent of the blog was to describe how the pushing of one contestant over another can have the opposite effect. Are people too stupid to see that or do they just want one more reason to insult Clay?

(Oh, and that was just a BS story in a tabloid about him wanting to sing with Adam. People who believe tabloids deserve to be lied to.)

At least Rolling Stone made more of an attempt at journalism here than I’ve seen elsewhere. Still a biased slant, but used to that.

guitar_davey | 5/22/2009, 11:42 am EST

I agree with NYJ. Why are people so bent out of shape about a bunch of karaoke singers with ZERO credibility?

AI is designed to sell you generic, prepackaged crap that resembles generic, prepackaged crap you’re comfortable with. End of story.

Holly | 5/22/2009, 11:42 am EST

Oh, there was definitely “bias” on the judges’ part as well as the producers…why else would they say what they did about Adam and allow that singer to spread her cape with the name Adam Lambert on it…they could have edited that with the 5 second delay…come on, now. The show has definitely changed…much more theatrical, especially where Adam was concerned…again showcasing Adam.
But America surprised them….

Kallie | 5/22/2009, 11:43 am EST

Clay just spoke the truth about AI. He never said he didn’t like Adam, but disliked the version of ROF he sang as many did, including Simon. He was dissing AI and machine it has become and the idol contestants are just $$$$ to idol and they care about nothing else.

well | 5/22/2009, 11:44 am EST

I guess that blows the tabloid story about Clay wanting to sing with Adam out of the water. Never could figure that one out. They are nothing alike. Adam is the flamboyant attention seeker. Clay is much more conservative and down to earth. He also has a right to his opinion. He even says himself it is all a matter of taste.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 11:45 am EST

Kris!! is the best!!!

Ciao | 5/22/2009, 11:45 am EST

Who gives a rat’s patootie what Clay thinks? He doesn’t even have the whole picture ‘cos he barely watched AI. Besides, I don’t like his music either, He caught Adam’s lousiest performance, didn’t even hear Kris at all, hid in the closet himself all those years. What a dweeb! I have no respect for the man, and to even give him this much press is a waste of “ink”.

CLAY IS RIGHT | 5/22/2009, 11:45 am EST

Kris!! is the best!!!

MarCanada | 5/22/2009, 11:46 am EST

Oh my gosh! Clay Aiken couldn’t kiss Adam Lambert’s boots. Do I taste sour grapes? Didn’t you show up at the Idol student wanting to see Adam, to try to jump on the gravy train, and Idol producers wouldn’t let you near the superstar? Adam is a genius, and a gentleman and would never bash anyone like you’ve needlessly bashed him. He’ll go so much farther than you ever did.

angelgirl | 5/22/2009, 11:46 am EST

and I am getting REALLY tired of hearing Adam was “favored”
That makes me think they liked him and said he was good even if he wasn’t…which isn’t true. Adam couldn’t help he gave a perfect performance everysingletime…What were the judges supposed to do? Lie and say he wasn’t good? He has a beautiful voice..if you don’t prefer his style I guess I understand that too – I don’t really care for Celine Dion or Mariah Carey but I know they are great phenomenal singers – I think it was a set up though.. the whole thing…they knew if they praised Adam there would be people hating on him because of it…the entire aim was to build Adam up and bring in “the dark horse” – just like Taylor Hicks…Simon Cowell didn’t want him at all in the beginning…I swear that season was built around making sure Taylor won to prove Simon wrong. Dumb. Adam was just good why can’t people accept it? Kudos to those who admit Adam was good but voted for Kris because they preferred him. I get that. I voted for Adam myself but than again I think he is also above and beyond IDOL…I don’t think Idol was a challenge for him. He’s a natural not a favorite.

ravengirl | 5/22/2009, 11:46 am EST

Very curious, given previous reports that Aiken had shown up to the Idol set unannounced a few weeks ago because he wanted to propose performing with Adam. Aiken was unceremoniously shown the door — he’s persona non grata there because he apparently broke his contract with 19. So I’m thinking this is all sour grapes and not sour notes. In either case, it’s very unbecoming and just lowered what little care I had about Aiken anymore to dust.

Clay Aiken you are nothing compare to Adam. You are so insecure and jealous because Adam is hotter than you. You have gained fats. LOL. I used to like you, although I did not buy your CD. But this time, I will buy Adam’s CD.

You sang OK but not great as ADAM. You are too weak for Adam. Sorry Clay but its the truth.

Why Clay, Why would you jugde another. I use to be a BIG Clay fan, I told everyone just to listen. And then you came out and I was proude of you. But now I just think you are a joke. RUDE, Tacky, oops there goes anouther Clay CD sale.

college girl | 5/22/2009, 11:50 am EST

I am 23 years old, and a huge Queen fan. Adam did very good. Chris not so good. But, Chis is not a rocker I did like three of his performances from other shows. I however liked Adam way more than any of the other performers. The judges cost Adam the contest. That is okay tho’ ’cause Adam will become a mega star. He proved that he can sing and perform more than rock. Let sad ass Clay RIP. His comments are meaningless. He is nobody. So he wont buy an Adam Lambert CD, so many other of us will. There are different types of genre’s of music because there are different types of music fans. I happen to be a fan of most genre’s. I hope the judges have learned to keep certain comments to themselves.

Lisa | 5/22/2009, 11:51 am EST

Well Clay, whoever you are
I guess you really wanted to get your geeky little face back into the public view and knowing that Adam is the hottest buzz going, well you picked him to glom onto – no one has ever googled you, right? I think you are mean, spiteful and bitchy. You could learn many lessons from Adam – how to be gracious in losing, how to hit notes AND turn people on and of course to be LOVED. He was raised right. YOu go back to breast-feeding your bought & paid for baby and leave a true artist alone. By the way, when you do get around to seeing ALL of Adam’s performances and listening to the studio versions of his songs, you will really be jealous then. Sorry butthead.

Anster | 5/22/2009, 11:52 am EST

Clay, you’re rotten! YOU, of all people berating a fellow AI contestant! Where do you get off? Oh yeah, that’s right you’re out of the closet. Maybe you should have kept the door closed. You’re a poor example of what an AI star should be. Very, very tacky. Hey, there’s a new movie coming out that you should star in: “Drag Clay to Hell.”

Steve | 5/22/2009, 11:53 am EST

Amazing how many people pay attention to one man’s opinion. It must have been important. I’m in agreement with Clay on this one.

steph | 5/22/2009, 11:53 am EST

GlAY Aiken is a turd…a polished turd, but still a turd.
Adam should have won that competition by a landslide. It’s also interesting that we haven’t heard any comments from Simon since the finale. He’s probably livid, and this result will certainly reinforce his decision to leave Idol when his contract is up (shortly)…he has no respect for the American voters.

Rose | 5/22/2009, 11:55 am EST

WHAT A DUMB @$$!

F*CK YOU, CLAY AIKEN!

OMG!

THAT MADE ME WANT TO PUKE!

GO TO HELL!!!

hum | 5/22/2009, 11:55 am EST

Would anyone like some sour grapes for breakfast?
Clay Aiken is bitter, and letting it be known. Defamer received this screed the former Idol contestant posted to his blog following the Idol finale.

And keep in mind, while reading it, that a few weeks ago Aiken dropped in on the Idol set unannounced (and for whatever reason) was quickly escorted off the premises because his relationship with the producers is so bad

Wendy | 5/22/2009, 11:56 am EST

My opinio of this and Chris Daughtry is nothing but pure JEALOUSY. Chris knows that Adam has more ability than he does to become the biggest success to date for AI knocking him off the block and Clay Aiken is just lucky to be there. He knows that if Adam hits Broadway he is through.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 11:56 am EST

Reading comprehension test!! Everyone go back to school or re-read above! Actually, Clay said in the blog that it was THAT (ROF) performance that he didn’t like. It was the bias and attention the show showed towards Adam and didn’t give anyone else that he was addressing.

“Ciao:P.S. I should say, he caught Adam’s ONLY bad performance. ”

I disagree. I thought Adam had quite a few bad performances. He KILLED U2’s song! It’s all a matter of taste.

superudu | 5/22/2009, 11:57 am EST

wow. clay’s choice was to come out as petty and jealous. interesting. he has a very developed opinion for someone who didn’t see the show. reminds me of when eminem tried to distance himself from marky mark on MTV’s TRL. anybody remember that?

note to clay | 5/22/2009, 11:57 am EST

You’re not a true ex-”American Idol” contestant unless you bash the show that made you famous.

Clay Aiken took to his personal website (available to view for the low, low price of $29.95/year) to rip “Idol” and its king of glam runner-up Adam Lambert. As Gawker pointed out, despite only hearing Lambert sing once, Aiken claimed he thought his “ears would bleed” when he belted out “Ring of Fire.” Pot, perhaps you’ve met kettle?

Then Aiken played the “it was better back in my day” card and wrote, “The show was different then, and folks made it in seasons 1-3 because they were ‘real’ people who happened to sing/entertain well. But, somewhere along the way, AI stopped being about real people.”

Note to Clay — real people don’t charge other real people $29.95/year to access their website.

idocritic | 5/22/2009, 11:57 am EST

Clay – jealous much? In fact, it seems that several of the previous Idol winners seem rather worried about being overshadowed by Adam Lambert. Well, they should be, Adam has more talent than all of them wrapped together.
As far as the outcome being based on ‘likeability’? Not so fast, it mostly had to do with our tween population which made up a large percentage of Kris Allens fan base and who voted on their various gadgets for hours on end until their fingers were numb. Adam had appeal to a much broader age group. Unfortunately, most of us with a fully developed brain have a job and pay taxes to support the schools for those very same teeny boppers. We didn’t have the luxury to stay up until midnight to cast 4000+ votes each and then sleeping in class the next day. Meaning, of course, that our votes barely counted.
AI should either fix their voting system or cancel the show and start a new one – “Teen Idol”. In any event I won’t be tuning in next year, what’s the point?
Don’t get me wrong, I like Kris Allen. He is an artist in his own right, he is a nice guy and deserves good things to happen to him. But Adam should have been the winner, he carried the show this year and had millions of people tuning in week after week who otherwise wouldn’t have, myself included. And, no, this isn’t sour grapes, it’s reality.
Kris knows it – this was a bitter-sweet victory for him and I am not so sure he is totally happy about how it all went down.

Llana | 5/22/2009, 11:57 am EST

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, Clay Aiken is right I watched AI all season long and did not like Adam’s singing, I’d rather listen to a screeching siren!

dees | 5/22/2009, 11:57 am EST

clay, i’ve been ur fan since ur Idol season.
i still ur fan when u said u’re gay, though.
i like ur voice and personality, that’s all that matters.
but please, clay, is that kind of ‘my ears would bleed’-like comments really came out of you? if it was, i’m disappointed here.
thought u’re a nice person who’ll appreciate others, no matter how they look, sounds, whatever.
god’s sake, u only heard his ‘ring of fire’-the most and only controvesial song of Adam this whole season’.
bet on you, you’ll take it back and fall in love with his voice if u hear ‘mad world’, ‘tracks of my tears’..gosh, he even can sing your type of songs, clay!
can’t believe u said that, clay. no wonder u’re falling slowly now..I’m sad for you..

Yani | 5/22/2009, 11:57 am EST

BAD TIME to open your mouth Clay! People are still really pissed that Adam didn’t win and you just made yourself a huge venting target…Of course Adam’s not your “cup of tea”, he’s a triple shot of expresso!

adamfanforever | 5/22/2009, 11:58 am EST

and I agree that Clay shouldn’t be making judgments if he saw ONE of Adam’s performances and none of Kris’s??? HOw can you say you like or dislike either one of them? That doesn’t make any sense. “I couldn’t be happier the way the show ended” ?? based on what? the “one” time you turned it on?

So it’s okay to like KRis and be glad he won even though you never listened to him sing because of the “one” time you turned on Idol and saw Adam doing a rendition of “Ring of Fire” during country week and even Adam said country week would be “interesting” and although I can’t remember exactly – did Clay not suck during Country week? so based on that Clay “couldn’t be happier”?? – omg..give me a break…but all people are going to read is

Gay Clay doesn’t think Gay Adam is Good and since Clay can sing he would know right..whatever Clay…someone must need some press

It’s not that I think Kris is bad at all…during the finale…I thought he sang better than the singer he performed with (omg the name escapes me)….my favorite quote in the entire world right now…

“To know one thing, you must know its opposite just as much; else you don’t know that one thing.”

– Henry Moore

Jennifer | 5/22/2009, 11:59 am EST

What gives all of you the “right” to judge Clay’s talent when you critize him for judging Adam’s talent? It’s all a matter of personal preference…are you so experienced and gifted yourselves to be able to distinguish talent?
How naive…..

Alex | 5/22/2009, 11:59 am EST

It is so cool how a runner up from 2003 is burning up the internet because he expressed an opinion . I thought he had had his 15 minutes but I guess not .

Whatever . At least he called it right on the bs behind that burned out show .

Anon | 5/22/2009, 12:02 pm EST

So, let me tell it like it is. Adam is entertaining, has a fantastic, clear, beautiful, strong voice (you could not hear poor Kris singing We are the champions by Queen as Adam drowned out Kris’ mediocre voice). Adam has an original and clear loud voice. Let me make it clear that if Adam was not in idols I would not have bothered watching it. Who is Clay Aiken? Daughtry was voted off early and look how far he has made it. Sorry Kris, but boring gets you nowhere. Adam has a fantastic career ahead of him. I can’t wait for him to release an album (and many more) so I can continue to hear that amazing voice of his. All the best Adam. And good luck to Kris, hope he does not end up like Taylor Hicks (never heard any of his songs and never will) or Clay Aiken (whoever that is).
P.S. Oi, just googled clay aiken. OMG, one ugmofo, doos. What an embarrassment, no wonder I had no clue who he is. If Adam was in Sotuh Africa he would have won. And let me tell you something, all winners of SA idols are the ones that are able to continue with their music careers. A(da)mazing Lambert!!!!!

Very Disappointed | 5/22/2009, 12:02 pm EST

Should Clay actually read these comments, be assured I will never purchase any of your music again. To make comments like those after seeing a portion of one performance is beyong rude. You are certainly not the person I believed you to be. You lost a fan here.

klc | 5/22/2009, 12:02 pm EST

After reading all the comments on this article and every other aticle I can find about Adam, I’d say he is going to be okay in his future. I am a die hard fan, and was furious when he didn’t win AI, (I am having a hard time getting over it) I still think there was a problem with the phone system based on the problems I had voting that night. I even had a few recording telling me that I had voted for contestant 2, when I was hitting redial, and for the first hour only got about 3 votes that actually connected. If that is the truth for more than myself, Adam would have had 100 million votes himself. Makes more sense to me then Kris actually winning over Adam. But back to my original thought. Adam is going to be alright in the future, he has a fan base pulling for him like I haven’t seen since Elvis. Anyone who publically comes out with negative thoughts about Adam can watch their own careers or whats left of them, hit the skids. It’s amazing, and I will be a die hard fan as long as I am here on this earth. And this isn’t coming from a teenager. I am a 60-something grandma who has seen a lot of artists come and go. Adam is here for the long run, and everyone better move over, he is headed for the top, just like Elvis.

willowisp | 5/22/2009, 12:02 pm EST

Clay has no class. Take a page out of Lamberts book and be gracious, humble and smart. you dump on the very industry that got you started and you sound threatend by Adam. You have just dug your own grave. Adam is the Light of the World!!!!

steph | 5/22/2009, 12:03 pm EST

Jennifer, i’m not sure you should mention the words Clay and Talent in the same sentence, unless “absence of” is part of the same sentence.

Mike | 5/22/2009, 12:04 pm EST

Clay is the best… until Adam comes out

Holly | 5/22/2009, 12:04 pm EST

Way too much verbal praise of Adam by judges….way too theatrical presentations of his performances…spread of cape with Adam’s name on it should have been edited…(5 second delay)…again favoritism displayed by producers.
And,guess what? I’m an Adam fan.

Laurie Kezh | 5/22/2009, 12:04 pm EST

Jennifer | 5/22/2009, 12:08 pm EST

To Steph….I used the word talent because it was something that got Clay to the first runner-up position. If he had no “talent”, he would have been voted off weeks earlier…guess you didn’t watch it back then….

Courtney | 5/22/2009, 12:09 pm EST

Come on people. Just bc he’s been through it doesn’t mean he’s wrong for having stated his opinion.
Honestly, the guy is pretty right! I will say that his opinions about Lambert are a little sharp, but he doesn’t like Lamberts style and that is okay.
Many people don’t like Simon, and will vote against whoever Simons going for- and the same in regards to the other judges as well.
The competition is over- lets all move on.

He’s entitled to his opinion, and here’s mine:
Looking at Clay makes my eyes bleed!!!!!

RyanK | 5/22/2009, 12:10 pm EST

Do I see green eyed jeolousy? It’s pretty stupid to evaluate someone based on one performance and then go public with it. Adam may not be your cup of tea, but he is honest about who he is and what he presents. Can we say the same about you?

mad4admam | 5/22/2009, 12:12 pm EST

Clay Aiken – you really didn’t get the Adam Lambert thing, did you?

American Idol is having a problem. It scours the country every year looking for raw, undiscovered talent. And out of 10’s of thousands, probably in the millions by now, it has never ONCE found a mega super star and IDOL!! like Elvis or The Beatles. The problem is American voters pick THEMSELVES! They identify with the boy or girl next door, the humble, the self-effacing, the lacking in confidence at the beginning – then the growing belief in oneself – we root for that person because it’s our COLLECTIVE dream that we can, if we try, achieve greatness with our God-given talents. AND – we want it to come easy… Then – along comes ADAM LAMBERT – and he rocks the boat (of that dream). He’s not RAW talent – he is already polished, professional, savvy, confident AND he’s already served an APPRENTICESHIP as a professional singer/stage performer. Adam has PREPARED himself for greatness. What we saw in front of us this season didn’t happen by accident or just good luck. Adam Lambert has worked HIS WHOLE LIFE on his God-given talent. I honestly think AI voters got scared of his greatness – we just couldn’t GO THERE!!! NO!!!, we said. This show isn’t about greatness and mega super stars – people we can’t RELATE to!!! Let’s just have MORE OF THE SAME!!! And this is going to be a very big headache for American Idol show going forward. Same old, same old. Same mould. Same mould. Same mold. Same mold.

SpamaWho? | 5/22/2009, 12:12 pm EST

Clay Aiken don’t be jealous of Adam. You didn’t get as much press as him. Tsk! Tsk!

steph | 5/22/2009, 12:18 pm EST

Jen, did watch that season (2). The line-up (and results) say it all…Clay couldn’t even come ahead of Rubben, that season was the worst of all.
Put Clay in season 8…he gets escorted out of the elevator during the auditions.

Topher | 5/22/2009, 12:20 pm EST

Doesn’t it seem strange that Lambert – whose sexuality has been tabloid fodder recently – lost to a clean cut, God-fearing boy from Arkansas?

I’m surprised that Aiken didn’t argue that Lambert’s loss was a result of many Americans being uncomfortable with Adam’s androgynous nature – fearing that he may be gay.

One would think that Aiken would come to Adam’s defense. Instead, Aiken complains that he wasn’t very fond of Adam’s version of ‘Ring of Fire,’ admitting that he never heard anything else by Adam or Kris. Yet Aiken “couldn’t have been happier” with how the show turned out?

The fact that Aiken doesn’t even watch Idol indicates Idol’s slow decline. However, I think that Adam Lambert’s career will be much more successful than Aiken’s.

Courtney | 5/22/2009, 12:20 pm EST

It’s funny that people are ragging on Clay when he and Adam are both 1st runners up on their seasons. America votes, so esentially you’re all bashing the voters, not the performers, anyways. Americans voted for Clay, then, just as they did Adam, now. Both came in 2nd.
Regardless of talent- they’re in the same boat and Aiken is allowed to share his feelings on the situation because he is a person and is entitled to that opinion. It has nothing to do with jealousy- if anything, the Lambert fans are jealous that Kris Allen won.
AND we all know Aiken did better than Studdard in the long run- so all you Glambert fans should have hope that your boy will come out on top!

sashcraft | 5/22/2009, 12:21 pm EST

Clay-shmay. Mr. Nobody!

kw | 5/22/2009, 12:24 pm EST

Clay, I have always been a big fan of yours and will remain to be but I was surprised that you would make such comments about Adam…I always THOUGHT YOU HAD MORE CLASS THAN THAT! The Clay that I thought you were would never trash another singer like that…that is so unprofessional. You are entitled to your opinion but could have used a little more Class in expressing it. “He made my ears bleed”?…PLEASE… Adam is not just an American Icon…he is a Universal Icon. I have lost count of the fans from around the world who love him but I honestly have not read one blog from a fan from another country that prefers Kris. You watched Adam one time and can make such a conclusion…and did not even watch Kris at all but can say that I think America got it right??? I’m a little disappointed in you. I won’t trash your talent because your behavior does not diminish your talent but it does diminish the image I had of you as a classy guy…and to be honest, It almost comes off as being a little jealous.

Jennifer | 5/22/2009, 12:30 pm EST

To Steph…granted competition was not nearly as great back in Season 2…but it was still Clay’s talent that got him to the finals…His final competitor, Ruben “the Velvet Teddybear” (gag), was also the judges preference from early on…always thought there was a “sympathy” vote shown…what has Ruben done since winning except get his name in the newspaper from time to time.. unfavorably.

Maria | 5/22/2009, 12:31 pm EST

There are ways to answer a question that are diplomatic, and ways that make the responder look like a petty, jealous tool. Guess which approach Clay took? I don’t know if Clay cares at all about the reaction to his remarks – I suspect he doesn’t – but if he does, he might want to remember that Adam’s fans are upset right now (much like Clay’s probably were when he lost), and that his comments could be seen as rubbing salt in a still-fresh wound. Maybe that’s irrational, but fandom often is – as he should know based on some of the behavior of his own Claymates.

Renee | 5/22/2009, 12:31 pm EST

Clay, you’ve just lost a fan!!! You’re bitter and u suck! Adam is a million times better than u are!!!!

Holly | 5/22/2009, 12:39 pm EST

Are you serious, Maria? Do you really think Clay cares what people think about his response?
It was his honest opinion…if anyone has a problem with honesty, it becomes their own problem…what was he supposed to do? Make up a fictious story to please who? His fans? Adam’s fans? I appreciate his honesty.

Anon | 5/22/2009, 12:40 pm EST

Oh yes. Talent and clay in the same sentence, my apologies

Sherri | 5/22/2009, 12:41 pm EST

I think Aiken is clearly jealous of Lambert’s abilities; he makes that clear with all of his unwarranted comments on Lambert’s vocal skills. Furthermore, if he turns the show on only once a season and only caught the last 5 seconds of ONE of Lambert’s performances then he should keep his mouth SHUT. He has no idea what he is talking about because he has not been paying attention. Don’t make comments when you do not know what you are talking about. Lambert’s skills are so far beyond Aiken that they make Aiken look like a JOKE; which quite frankly…Aiken is a JOKE. Lambert will be a rock legend one day while Aiken is still hanging out on Broadway.

Jennifer | 5/22/2009, 12:44 pm EST

For the love of god, stop giving attention to this crapfest! Every year they crank out a bunch of losers and butcher great songs in the hopes of popping out something teenage girls will just love. Seriously, Kelly Clarkson is the successful one? Yep, bet she’s gonna go down as the next Aretha.

Rolling Stone, stop biting the pillow.

Mel | 5/22/2009, 12:44 pm EST

Adam rocks!!! Cambodia loves you!!!!!

Deb | 5/22/2009, 12:45 pm EST

It would have been nice if Clay had watched more than 1 song of season 8 before he started analyzing talent, and voter and producer motives.

steph | 5/22/2009, 12:46 pm EST

Clay is picking a CAT FIGHT…unfortunately he doesn’t have any claws. Guess i’ll be meowing soon…roll on your back Clay, you are no match. Almighty Adam will be as successful as Underwood in no time, and Clay, like a good little kitty, will go to ticketmaster to buy his little ticket so he can get all exited about going to a great concert.

steph | 5/22/2009, 12:53 pm EST

It’s all in good fun anyway.

Adam Fan | 5/22/2009, 12:54 pm EST

Sour Grapes is what it sounds like. Adam is and has been a Super Star from the Moment he started his American Idol Journey. He didn’t need the judeges to build the hype the country did that. He will be a Super Star. He can sing any type of music and will be well on his way to a Tony before you Clay if that is the way he chooses to go.

Maria | 5/22/2009, 12:58 pm EST

Holly – I SAID I didn’t think Clay cared about people’s reactions. I ALSO said there are ways to express opinions that are diplomatic. Clay was unnecessarily nasty about the one performance of Adam’s that he saw. It actually IS possible to express opinions without being rude.

Maria | 5/22/2009, 1:06 pm EST

And a P.S. to Holly – If someone (particularly someone in the public eye whose comments were likely to be widely circulated) were to listen to one of Clay’s performances and write that “at that moment, thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful and slightly frightening”…would you be so quick to applaud his or her “honesty”?

Not Holly --Just Being A Pain | 5/22/2009, 1:09 pm EST

It’s like I have a twin. Aiken expresses my viewpoint exactly. The judges went way overboard pre-crowning Adam. The judges saw dollar signs whenever they saw Adam and may have done their favorite in by too much undeserved praise.

AGAIN, to Chris Harris…in shorter terms, what is the relevance of your article from a music perspective, and why is Clay A. worth writing about outside of generating page views?

Maria | 5/22/2009, 1:40 pm EST

Holly – If you prize honesty, then I can only assume you have no problem with others expressing their perfectly honest opinions about Clay, and about what he wrote. And I still say that honesty and good manners don’t have to be mutually exclusive. It’s not a radical thought.

Clay Aiken is a jealous out of touch bore.

Gaias Child | 5/22/2009, 2:01 pm EST

Clay who? I guess some of you said that already. Jealous? One hundred million people voted. Wouldn’t we love to know how close it was? We found out on Dancing with the Stars. Curious minds want to know. In addition to having tons more talent and present than squeaky Aiken, Adam’s got some manners, some class, some generosity of spirit to go with the rest of it. Adam doesn’t have such a pitiful ego that he needs to cut down anybody else.

Holly | 5/22/2009, 2:04 pm EST

Hey Maria…it’s Holly again. I can’t seem to get away from here.
You assume IN-correctly, that I have no problem with the personal attack on Clay, but I do “applaud” your honesty since you really seem to feel that way. We’re back to the old preference thing again. But the honesty/good manners thing is questionable…I honestly don’t see the connection here, radical or not. How do good manners apply in an interview? Guess he could have said, “Yes, Mam….or Yes, Sir”

Amy | 5/22/2009, 2:28 pm EST

I find it amusing that Aiken doesn’t think of Lambert as a ‘real’ person. Lambert is just as real as anyone else on the show, he just happens to express himself in a unique way that stands out. He has a range that is unreal, a clear voice, and the ability to create a new sound to old songs. Lambert has a stage presence that few others on Idol have had before, and was solid from his audition on. Allen is a good musician as well, but slamming Lambert because he happens to have a different style isn’t indicative of the broad range of musical interest in this country, and childish on the part of someone who made it in the music industry after losing on the show as well.

AudreyLee | 5/22/2009, 3:19 pm EST

Calling all ADAM fans……Listen to what our idol is saying…..he wants his friendship and taking silver to serve as an example of how people can get along….not create conflict. If we are REALLY fans of Adam, then let’s follow his lead and show that he IS a good role model…because he IS. It does not matter what others say. Let’s just love our idol with humility – like Adam. Let’s reach out and be good sports, not loud mouthed and rude.

TommyT | 5/22/2009, 3:35 pm EST

Clay, Clay, Clay…I’m sooo ashamed of you. What a disgrace you have become, and you WERE my favorite for the AI crown that year too!! How can you even comment on Adam (or any of them) if you never saw the performances? You are a JEALOUS JERK, and America is (still) over you.

Elena | 5/22/2009, 3:39 pm EST

This sounds like sour grapes to me. The Chicago Sun-Times reported last week that Clay Aiken showed up on the Idol set to meet Adam and perhaps do a future project together. He was pretty much ushered from the set, pronto. So I wonder if Clay wanted to meet Adam before or after he decided Adam’s voice made his ears bleed? You know, I never cared for Clay Aiken, but I at least thought he was a nice person. Very tacky.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 3:57 pm EST

Clay, Clay… go pretend you fathered another kid . Your jealousy is so obvious. You don’t even come close to what Adam Lambert could offer. You are a freaky looking has been.

BritRockChick | 5/22/2009, 4:01 pm EST

These comments by Clay just come across as Jealous and Bitchy – both against Adam and the show that made Clay famous. There was no other way Clay could have made it as a performer. Broadway wouldn’t have looked at him twice without Idol.

Clay – of course the show isn’t the same as when you were on it. If it was it would be so dull by now that NO-ONE would watch it! It had to evolve and YES the success of the show was bound to attract some professional singers. But lets get real here. Kelly Clarkson went to LA prior to Idol to try to make it as a singer, Carrie Underwood had done loads of singing locally and within her state. And alot of the other idol Top 10 contestants were semi-pro singers in other ways – e.g. Church Gospel singers etc. It’s not like these people’s only prior experience was singing in the shower – so get a grip!

And whilst you might not like Adam’s take on Ring of Fire or his performance overall, to say that his vocal was bad makes me lose all respect for your ability to judge such things. It’s fine to say that you didn’t like it – it was arguably the most controversial performance of the season, but Adams vocal was bloody impressive and you can’t take that away from him.
I think Adam is going to have an amazing career and will look out for his singles and albums with interest.

I am wondering if Chris Harris (writer of this article) is a former military officer who has a thing for Clay. Why would anyone mention Clay’s name if man-to-man attraction was not involved?

Boohoo | 5/22/2009, 4:02 pm EST

Dear Clay-did you ever get an invitation to open for Rolling Stones, Because there is a big rumour Adam got one. Shut-up jealous nerd.

Whocares | 5/22/2009, 4:05 pm EST

Clay Aiken’s is an idiot! Who really cares about his opinion. Spam a who? He sounds bitter and jealous and there is absolutely no reason for him to comment on his opinion. He is a fool to do that really. No class what so ever.

Anonymous | 5/22/2009, 4:12 pm EST

Clay, please don’t give me herpes.

Susie | 5/22/2009, 5:43 pm EST

Oh please! This fake controversy is music to the ears of AI producers who want to milk this thing as far past the final as they can. Watch American Idol! See what this year’s controversy will be about! So Clay has an opinion, so what. I personally think Adam is overhyped and overrated — and outdated. Didn’t the Glam Rock era end years ago?

May | 5/22/2009, 5:54 pm EST

Clay is right, but maybe he should not have said it. That is all.

Whoa | 5/22/2009, 6:02 pm EST

Did Trent Reznor put him up to this? What’s up with every has-been getting pissed at someone who’s having more success then they are? Hey Clay, it’s not Adam’s fault if you’re nothing more than a footnote from the year 2003, along with “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy”

Greg | 5/22/2009, 6:19 pm EST

Clay is still the best singer on Idol, not all of us like the same singers, I liked both Kris and Adam, but agree AI is pathetic, and manipulates. and influences. Adam started as my favorite but, although I actually agree he can sing, I also did not like his screeching. Kris turned out my favorite.I do see what Clay is talking about. What happened to raw undiscovered gems, like Kris. I am glad he won. Not going to be easy for him though, so much hatred around. It is just an opinion folks

Ron | 5/22/2009, 6:25 pm EST

Clay is still the best singer ever on “idol” whether people like him or not. Go Clay (maybe you should not have said anything about Adam LOL)It is a singing competition, why all the angst. Clay said what I have thought for years. It is just his opinion. lots of pretty strong ones around here.

judy | 5/22/2009, 6:28 pm EST

Adam Lambert is an over-hyped screecher. If he’s soooo talented why has he always been an understudy and never had a major part. He’s not a good singer.

Christy | 5/22/2009, 6:58 pm EST

Why ON EARTH would Clay Aiken be jealous? He has sold millions of albums, had eight sold out concert tours, written a best seller book, appeared on many tv shows, produced his own shows, had many accomplishments with Unicef, and starred on Broadway. Oh yeah, Clay has a lot to be jealous over.
He is entitled to his own opinion.

carol | 5/22/2009, 8:14 pm EST

I’m sure Clay will never never EVER again answer a question and say what he really thinks. This was on his own website for fans. Now every media outlet is picking this up. Yikes! Guess everyone still cares what Clay thinks. He’s getting more outspoken; not that shy kid anymore. But I think his long blog was directed toward the total pimping of Adam by the judges, not so much toward the person. He said he didn’t hear but one song. A lot of fans told Clay to give Adam a chance; he’s not Clay, but the man is entertaining. The media just loves this type of thing, and I don’t think Clay wanted all this press–and in the end, just helping AI to get more publicity.

Ben | 5/22/2009, 8:59 pm EST

Adam Theatre-Singer

Kris Musician-Singer

Hmmmm

kiwi | 5/22/2009, 9:23 pm EST

I think what anon had to say was great. Adam definietly came to the show and rocked the boat. Adam has got an outstanding talent and has the versatility to make a song his own. He should have won, not because of what the judges said but due to his own stage presense and what a presence he has, he has got an amazing voice thats loud, clear and controlled. Unlike Clay’s comment! Adam will have a great future in the music industry because he keeps it real, dosent put down other people, and does what he does best SING and ENTERTAIN. If he wasnt on idol i wouldnt have been watching, Adam brought a new challenge to the show, and really its abut time the winners of the show should be the ones ho have got the talent to go far. No offence Kris but you dont have the power and the presence like Adam does.

FAN_of_TRUE_TALENT | 5/22/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Clay who??? He sounded like envious, brainless idiot. I voted for him, but when I saw his interviews after the AI I disliked him very much! I NEVER BOUGHT even a single record after. If he doesn’t like a performance or a singer, he should give a constructive criticism and do not sound like a fool to get himself more publicity. Some his old FANS are leaving him for good!

Haley | 5/22/2009, 9:42 pm EST

lets make sure you get all his comments and not selected few. He writes:
“Who knew I had so much influence and that my words and opinion mattered so much to so many people!?!?! HA HA HA I’ll be the first to admit that my opinion is just that, only my opinion, but for as much as some of the bloggers seem to dislike me and care so little about my thoughts, they sure can waste a lot of their space on what I say! If only many of them took the time to pay attention to important things like the US economy and the welfare of the world’s children. But… nah… I could blog about that type of stuff anytime and most wouldn’t think twice, but let me say something that they can pick and choose quotes and misinterpret me… and it’s showtime! I never assumed my opinion mattered so much! I guess I may have been wrong.
That said, since my previous blog got dissected like a biology lab frog, i suppose I should clarify and even retract some of what I wrote.
I am sure that some were upset by my choice of words describing my opinion of a performance I heard from Adam Lambert. I hope no one actually believed that blood truly poured forth from my ears when I heard him. I obviously meant it as a colorful statement to imply that I did not enjoy what I heard. Any performer hopes that their music will appeal to all people, but no singer realistically expects it to. God knows, I am SURE there are PLENTY of people who can’t stand to hear me sing either. I wouldn’t dream of assuming that, and I am sure that far worse things have been said about my performances than I would even venture to type here. To me, that’s fine. I don’t expect unanimous, nor even majority support for my music. But, my guess is Adam doesn’t either. I would not venture to make judgements on the personality or demeanor of anyone I don’t know, so none of what I said in my previous blog was directed as a “slam” on Adam as a person. At the same time, I wouldn’t dream of slamming him as an entertainer. He does what he does, because he enjoys it, and he obviously has many fans who enjoy it as well. If what i said in my previous blog regarding my impression of a single performance from Adam upset or offended any of his fans, I expect that the mature ones will realize that it was simply a poorly worded metaphor describing my personal tastes. The only person I would really dream of apologizing to is Adam. And the irony is, if he’s smart he couldn’t give a crap what I think of his Ring of Fire performance. As an entertainer, Adam knows that one person’s opinion of one performance really matters a little less than zero, in the grand scheme of things. He could not have gotten on Idol (nor made it as far as he did) without an immense amount of talent. He surely doesn’t need my approval to know he has a gift. At the same time, he realizes that amazing talent doesn’t always equal universal appeal. (I could NEVER have the amount of skill and talent that ballet dancers have! that’s talent! But, I don’t particularly enjoy it!) I am sure that I will have plenty of opportunities in the coming years to hear Adam sing. I imagine he’ll be around for years to come. But in the meantime, I definitely don’t want to stoop to the level of so many negative freaks on the internet… so, I do apologize to Adam for my colorful (and negative) choice of words. I hope he can forgive me. I imagine he doesn’t give a damn! :-) God knows he shouldn’t. :-)

Clay is a class act with a VERY DRY sense of humor. Maybe too dry for some. I like Clay. I like Adam. I like Kris.

Obviously some people cannot tell the difference between screeching (hello?? Danny Gokey singing Aerosmith) and hitting a very difficult octave. That is not screeching people. Not many people can hit that! As for Clay Aiken….all I can say is people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones! He has no business criticizing anyone! I used to like you Clay….not so sure anymore! Feeling a tad bit of jealousy??? Shame on you for making comments like that about someone after only seeing one performance (and it was clearly not his best of the season!).

I was disappointed to hear Clay voice such negative opinions after only hearing one song of Adam’s and none of Kris’. I was a fan of Clay’s season 2 and disappointed when he lost, but will no longer buy his CDs after hearing how rude he has become or always was.
I was watching Extra tonight and they said that Kris’ area has 2.8 million population and had 38 million votes out of the 100 million from there alone. It also mentioned they had voted longer than the 4 hours by making phone calls through the computer. It didn’t go into particulars about that. Adam was asked about it and just said the fans were really enthused about voting and didn’t act outraged only conciliatory. I too called for 4 hours and only got through only a few times. Some of the times it reported I had voted for Contestant #2 whereas I was on redial and voting for Contestant #1. I did hear a tv report of someone trying to vote for Contestant #2 and got thank you for voting for Contestant #1. That makes me think there were problems with the phones. However, I think it could just be a preference of music styles rather than mechanical failure that determined the winner.
The judges are there to give their opinion and if their opinion is Adam is the best they have ever had should they lie? They have always been honest in their opinion in the past.

QT | 5/23/2009, 12:54 am EST

Adam Lambert deserved to win and was a fantastic, sublime performer. His downfall was Paula Abdul. Her stares of adoration and inarticulate worship made me want to gag. I pray she leaves the show. If not, if she likes someone next year, don’t let anyone know and give them a chance at victory. I hope that Adam becomes the new lead singer for Queen but it sounds like Kiss might grab him up despite Gene Simmonds stupid comments.

meredithNYC | 5/23/2009, 1:54 am EST

boy that was weird clay. i used to be a fan — i took a lot of heat for it at the beginning. sounds like some kind of perverse jealousy or personal issue (don’t like his values? that he too is an amazing singer? AND not afraid to be himself??). so u heard him once and kris not at all, yet had so much to say? i think u need to think hard about this clay. u should have some empathy for the guy who made a lot of people uncomfortable. u also know full well the reason he was so favorably reviewed by the judges and the media: well, he didn’t pay them or anything. he was just that good! u just missed it, or would have a problem seeing it. maybe the comparisons are just too close to home for u: 2 runner ups who were/will be more successful than the winners; 2 gay men who lots wrote/said very derogatory and hateful things about; need i go on? fyi, i think adam threatens u, but u should know that he was awesome all season long. as for the guy u didn’t see, well he’s ok; vote for the worst supported him, and multi-thousands of votes per person from certain areas of the country put him on top. i can understand AI bashing (since apparently its a voting contest, which means its a money machine first and foremost); but adam bashing — u should be ashamed. one would think u’d have learned some tolerance for difference — and be able to recognize a superb vocalist when u hear one.

Mad World alright

I stopped watchind AI because of singer like Aiken. BORING and UGLY. Only reason I watch this season was after hearing Adam sing. This guy is the total package and sure he will be million times sucessful then any IDOL.

JL | 5/23/2009, 7:59 am EST

The only reason why Clay started bashing Adam and/or the voters was because he showed up on the set wanted to do some song with Adam, and was basically escorted by the guards off the set. Only after that did he write bad things about Adam and the fans and judges.

TB | 5/23/2009, 9:07 am EST

I heard on the Hollywood gossip show of Mike Evans on the local radio staion, Clay was taking to Adam everyday to become Adam’s manager. Sounds like Adam said no.

Hey Clay...get a clue! | 5/23/2009, 10:37 am EST

I have to admit I have just lost a lot of respect for Clay Aiken. Since when does a true artist or musician judge another based on “part of one song” they heard. Next time Clay, bother to put a little research into your comments before you open your mouth. OR, maybe go back into that closet you came out of and spend a little quiet time researching. I was a HUGE Clay Aiken fan…guess I learned that everyone has an ego…I mean opinion.

joan | 5/23/2009, 12:06 pm EST

you go clay. What you said is true. You might not know this but the Judges did the same with you and Ruben. They were giving him all the praise and hype. When he won I saw Paula and Randy hug. I thought that was tasteless.I dont know why people hate you so, maybe they wanted you to come out and say you were gay, because they could,nt understand how many fans you had. If you had in those days you would be off the show. Adam picture was all over the internet, but I did,nt hear on word from the gossip colume or AI. What you have done for AI is beyond words. You made people get aware of it, and keeping watching. You made history with your first single, but everyone seems to forget except your loyals fans. Keep saying what you think and please give your fans a C D soon. Lots of love from one of your fans who lives in a nother country.

Eliza | 5/23/2009, 12:21 pm EST

Have to admit, he nailed it in many respects. Yes, many of us did get tired of the bias of the judges and did react against that. Too bad for Adam, though. He truly is talented. The best singers were Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta, but they got eliminated. In the end, Adam is probably a better singer and performer than Kris, but I can understand why many of us voted for Kris over Adam.

heartaiken | 5/23/2009, 12:46 pm EST

Clay conducts and question and answer segment on his official website, so the comments he made were “closed”, intended only for members and not general consumption.

Clay fans are fair, and so is Clay. He unintentionally made what sounded like a cutting remark about Adam, but the overall topic was the evolution of AI. Some of his fans called him on the remark.

There is not an ounce of malice in Clay, and I am surprised he made a public announcement about a misunderstanding on his own website.

I must give him credit for truly not wishing to offend anyone – his fans, anyone connected with AI, or Adam himself.

If you were familiar with Clay, you would know there is NO ego involved with this man.

? | 5/23/2009, 12:50 pm EST

On clay aiken saying, “I thought my ears would bleed”: It’s a pitty he did not bleed to death.

joan | 5/23/2009, 1:06 pm EST

You people are so hyprocritical. When Clay came out you were over him. Adam is gay and you,re all pretending that he is,nt even AI. Clay has been getting bash from he was on the show. He is one of the better singers from the show.I dont see why all the hate for him. If I dont like a person I ignore them. so why are you people up in arms about what he says. When you say Clay is ugle, some of you should look in the mirror. And Clay being jealous of Adam that,s a laugh. Go get a life and stop bashing Clay

deb | 5/23/2009, 1:40 pm EST

who does clay aiken think he is, simon’s parasitic twin? when clay aiken was on idol he was ugly and wouldn’t have made it very far without the idol makeover. But, he is a has been now. Why be jealous
of adam lambert becase of his success? My son admires adam lambert. He is into theater and music and I think adam lambert’s story made him know he can follow his dreams.

Happy | 5/23/2009, 3:38 pm EST

Some of you people commenting are just mean! Like it or not, Clay’s comments were for the most part correct. The judges did go overboard in their bias, turning AI into the Atom Lambert Show. Atom’s good, but being so prematurely lavished as the presumed winner ultimately did him no favors, and there was a predictable backlash. Krisp Allen may not be quite the singer that Atom is, but he’s likeable enough and was the only alternative for many who were turned off by the judges’ love fest with Atom. So Krisp got not just the votes of those who truly wanted him to win, but he also got a TON of votes that were really just a “anyone but Atom” sort of vote.

Too bad for Atom, but is 2nd place on AI really so bad?

Justin | 5/23/2009, 3:41 pm EST

Clay Aiken needs to get a grip. For someone who would not have any success at all in music without American Idol, he sure is quick to judge others who are on the same show. I think Adam Lambert blows Clay Aiken away in talent, ability, and musicality. I could not stand hearing Clay sing on the show when he was on, very old style lame rebditions. Oh yeah, what a shocker he came out of the closet, we all knew he was gay, at least Adam does not deny that like Clay did. Clay, crawl back in your hole and stay there, you totally suck, I mean really!

sioux | 5/23/2009, 6:57 pm EST

Aiken – You are over. Stupid comments and stupid reactions. America is done with you and wants a real star to watch – Adam Lambert

Tom in Georgia | 5/23/2009, 10:39 pm EST

Clay, open mouth, insert both feet. Once an admirer, supporter and buyer of your CD’s. NO MORE MY GEEKY, BUTT SWISHING JEALOUS LITTLE HAS BEEN. I can’t believe you have the audacity to bash Adam as you have. You are a complete embarassment to the gay community, oh heck to the human race. Adam and Chris both wanted this to be based on singing abilities and that is the bottom line. They are both winners in my book, I appreciate both singers talents but do believe that Adam should have been the winner. You don’t see them bashing each other. I really don’t see how you could make a judgement call on either since you only watched once this season supposedly. You really disappoint me Clay. I do however hope your words come back to bite you dead in the behind……you definitely deserve whatever backlash you get. I’ll be buying both Adam’s and Chris’s CD’s with the money I used to spend on yours. Oh, yes I used your CD’s to scrape the dog poop off my shoe’s today and they worked really well. Get a life…and when you get yours worked out maybe then you will be qualified to shoot your mouth off about those who are clearly more talented than you’ll ever hope to be.

First Aiken shows up at the American Idol set in an attempt to meet Lambert and gets the boot. Then Aiken tries to get Lambert’s attention by slamming him on the web. Now he publicly pleads for Lambert to accept his apology.

When will Aiken get the hint that Lambert is just not into him?

PuGSly | 5/24/2009, 8:04 am EST

Yes, CLAY IS AN INGRATE. WE WOULD NOT KNOW HIM BECAUSE OF IDOL. Before Idol, he would be filling out applications for summer camp counselor right now (a job he had before Idol) in those goofy glasses with the WTF shocking red hairdo. He should fall on his knees and bow to Idol for changing his image. But, I do agree with him that voters don’t like being coerced by the judges. They vote for who they like regardless of the judges. I THINK THE SAD FANS OF GOKEY MOVED THEIR VOTES TO KRIS ALLEM. The judges and producers would look stupid if they released the final vote count, so they hide it from the public. Also, the judges used to hate anyone who was not mainstream or was too broadway like Jennifer Hudson, who went on to win an Oscar in her very first movie while others work for decades and never achieve this feat! So, the judges did an about face and started lovin’ Adam, as they should, but they went too far. They should have remained unbiased and let America decide. America did and the judges look like idiots once again.

Pepto B | 5/24/2009, 9:27 am EST

Clay should have complained that Adam looks constipated when he sings – scrunched frowny face and all. Lambert has pipes, no doubt, but can sound shrill. I hear he is a great guy.

Kris was more enjoyable to listen to overall. He did better with that lousy last song – crappy writing. And his Aint No Sunshine was spectacular. The judges favoritism had little effect. America voted for who it most wants to listen to and watch, bottom line.

Rachel | 5/24/2009, 10:51 am EST

This why I love Clay Aiken! He is just being himself and does not care what other people would say. I love Adam Lambert and really..who cares?! I think both of them are SUPERSTARS and AI is just not happy that the last finale did not turn out the way they want it. I love the catfights between fans! That is lovely! For me..I love both of them and that what matters!

Rachel | 5/24/2009, 10:53 am EST

This what I call Clayadam! Yummy!:)

Maybewhy? | 5/24/2009, 4:30 pm EST

I’m going to hide this in here while all the noise is dying down. You maybe saw the story about Aiken getting thrown off the AI set a few weeks ago. It’s much funnier than that. Aiken came to the set with his child, to see some staffers who he stayed friends with. While he was there one of the producers asked, not to nicely, for him to show up at the finale to be there with Ruben and Kim Locke, for a show of strength. Aiken told them he had a prior engagement. The producer wanted to know what it was. Aiken said he would be out of the country meeting his bf. Producer got pissed and said some nasty stuff. Aiken got pissed, covered the baby’s ears, and told the producer to shove it up his ass, and walked out. Producer’s revenge was the tabloid article.

Verde | 5/24/2009, 5:30 pm EST

Clay is basically saying, by stating he does not like Adam’s voice, that Adam didn’t deserve all the hype.

Adam DOES deserve the hype, both from AI judges and media outlets worldwide.

Adam is THAT spectacular — a star is born.

Bowl of milk for one.

Have never missed an American Idol show from the very beginning. Adam fans don’t worry…he’ll make the big time….but I must agree with Clay, Adam is hard to listen to on a continuous basic.

brian | 5/26/2009, 7:06 am EST

Clay sure does have a lot of opinions about a show he turns on once a year and admits he never saw any of the performances. He’s just someone trying (too hard) to be relevant.

Mo | 5/26/2009, 7:49 am EST

To Clay ,

You are right about the economy and world peace.Sp why did you waste the time bashing another singers performance. My mother always told me if you could not say something nice better not say anything at all.Maybe that is what you should stick to in the future Clay. By the way some os us actually enjoyed “Ring of Fire” I purchased it off itunes already and have never done that for any song ever. But then I have bought all of Adams music because it has moved me so much.he seems like a very genuinely nice guy along with his incredible talent.I pray all the hype and fame do not cause him any difficulties as they have for so many over the years and ruin him.(think Elvis for one). These stars are after all people under neath all this and I hate when they end up in trouble and in the tabloids .While I do not like what Clay said about Adam the amount of vitriol directed at him for an opinion is just silly. This world needs less of this right now and more peace.Think of John Lennon and Martin Luther King .I think these are the type people we should emulate even when some ones opinion is so different then outs. And Clay might want to think a little more before speaking in the future to avoid such outrage also. But we need not be so mean either!

Forever Clay's Fan | 5/26/2009, 2:22 pm EST

I totally agree with Clay on every point. I stopped watching Idol once Matt got sent home. I also totally do not get this whole Adam Lambert thing. I COULD NOT STAND ADAM LAMBERT through the entire season! The way he screams makes me want to puke! Clay is one of the best vocalists I have ever heard. And an all around great guy. You go Clay! And I don’t see how one comment about one creepy AI contestant is career suicide. The other things he said about the show are true.

Indira | 5/26/2009, 9:20 pm EST

Clay, I used to be your diehard fan, not anymore. You can have your opinion, granted, but as a celebrity (if you consider yourself, apparently, by charging fees for anyone to read your blog) you have to be very careful with your words. I see so many mistakes you made with that comment:
1. Even if you don’t like Adam’s take on Ring of Fire, you don’t have to be so nasty with your words. YOU ARE NOT SIMON. People expect those kind of words from Simon as he’s the most difficult judge to please. But you, Clay, is a fellow singer, former Idol contestant. You can just say, “not my cup of tea”. Learn to be diplomatic.

2. You only watched Adam’s performance once and you didn’t even watch any of Kris’ performance, but you dare to compare them. GIVE ME A BREAK.

3. Adam got harsh critics from the judges for ROF, the only performance you watched, but you said the judges pimping him? You confuse me, Clay.

4. If you know from the media that he was pimped and over-praised by the judges, maybe you should check why he got the praises. Maybe you should check why all the entertainment media and big names in the industry are talking abt him and welcome him. You are not Smokey Robinson, not Gene Simmons, not Santana, not Bono, not Robbie Williams, not Slash. You are nowhere near their level. Yet, they praise Adam. Who do you think you are?

Chris | 5/27/2009, 3:33 am EST

Chill out Lambert fans. Clay has a right to talk and give his opinion about anyone he wants. Don’t give yourself hernias. Most of you bash singers you don’t like, Clay can do the same.

Samantha | 5/28/2009, 10:31 am EST

Okay Clay…Have Your Thoughts On Adam. I Saw You 5 Times In Concert And I totally Loved You…However, Adam Lambert Is The SNitzzel. And I Can’t Wait To See Him In August. I Am Very Disappointed In You Mr. Aiken. :(

Mc | 5/29/2009, 11:05 am EST

AI has created a monster, Adam Lambert. His head is now bigger than the four judges and M.C on AI. When he hint that Clay need him to make headlines, he must have been hiding under his high heel shoes all these years. Lets see if six years from now,he,ll be making headlines.

Mary | 5/30/2009, 6:39 pm EST

I completely agree with Clay about the Adam “pimping” as well as the comment about the Ring of Fire performance. But there was not even one performance of Adam’s I liked. I couldn’t get past the screaming and makeup. I did not vote for Kris just because he was more likable,(though I definitely think he is),I voted for Kris because he is so much more musically talented, both in the vocal area and mastery of musical instruments.

madamimadam | 5/31/2009, 8:29 pm EST

There are a heck of alot of people out here who agree with every word that Aiken said. The Glamberts need to wake up. Your glam god is getting his ass kissed all over right now, but they only build them up to knock them down. He’ll learn soon enough. Aiken, keep telling it like it is – you now have my respect & I’ll buy your next album.

aleksandra | 6/3/2009, 12:42 pm EST

i agree with clay opinion this are totally true adam lambert are talented but his ring of fire i dont liked very much it bad this may opinion i love orginal ring of fire song it is my favourite songs and i respect clay very much he said adam are talented if you dont see that you should read article second time i see from coments that many of you dont understand clay is bad becauce clay are very talented clever and amazing person my favorite idol i dont care that he is gay i love his music and work

jo-jo | 6/9/2009, 12:17 pm EST

CLAY
YOU NEVER HAD IT …….SO GET OVER IT NEVER LIKED YOU …..ADAM WILL MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE CRAP …..AT LEAST HE DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A MAKEOVER ..AND STILL YOU ARE NOTHING

Kathyek | 6/9/2009, 12:18 pm EST

Hey… to the gal (Mia) who wrote…

TO ADAM’S MORE ‘MATURE’ FANS. PLEASE STOP ADMITTING YOUR AGE. IT’S NOT COOL. THANKS.

Here goes kiddo… I’m 67 years old and LOVE ADAM!!! I will purchase his CD’s, DVD’s, books or anything else Adam makes available to us. The music he sings has been around way before your time. And just remember… You’ll be “Mature” one day. Hope you will continue to love music and great talent then. Gooooo Adam!!!!

Louise | 6/9/2009, 12:47 pm EST

Clay,

I loved you when you appeared on American Idol. Unfortunately the songs chosen by you or given to you for your 1st CD were awful. I was sorry that you didn’t make it.

I also love Adam. He is the real thing. He is charming, respectful, he takes critisism well and uses it to his advantage. I know he will be quite successful with his musical career.

Bella | 6/9/2009, 12:56 pm EST

Yea really! Clay who?! What season was he in? Don’t hear about him only that he gained so much weight because he is on an anti-depressed drug Paxil. If you were doing so well, what are you so depressed about?! Guess he is not all that so he had to criticized Adam!

Debbie0212 | 6/9/2009, 3:04 pm EST

Most people don’t realize that Clay’s comment was ONLY concerning the one song he heard Adam sing on AI and it was ripped off from a post he made in a fan question/ answer thread on his official web site. I don’t think he should be bashed for giving his honest opinion in his official site. This isn’t exactly fodder for a great debate.

Verehrerin | 6/9/2009, 3:34 pm EST

I thought my heart would bleed when I heard Ring of Fire. And it did!

Who else could reveal that song as so sexy/senuous/intriguing?? and I mean REVEAL!.

only Adam, only Adam!

Bob Turner | 6/9/2009, 3:55 pm EST

I don’t believe one word that Clay Aiken said, such as. “I didn’t watch the show”……….what a joke…..I bet he didn’t miss a one…..and, he’s one to criticize Adam Lambert, who has a voice 100% better than Aikens.

val | 6/9/2009, 4:18 pm EST

I was originally for Adam, then mid-way changed over to root for Chris. It was difficult to pick just one winner, because they both brought something really amazing to the table. I wish Adam would have been his true self all along. He said, “I wanted to come out right after the finale, but thought it would be cooler in Rolling Stone.” I’m a straight white God-fearing female, but I would like to encourage Adam to just be who he is at all times. Don’t deceive the public, even for a paycheck, but I am sure there would be some prejudice alot of people may not understand, so I can kind of see why Adam is thinking that way. He is talented and on a roll! And Chris? What can I say: awesome. Like a smooth, babbling brook… :) Good luck to both amazing contestants!

Sharon | 6/9/2009, 4:20 pm EST

Clay’s got a toddler to raise-so i think that that is what he should be doing. Bet the kid grows up loving Adam Lambert and blasting the stereo at home!

jbeatty | 6/9/2009, 8:09 pm EST

What a crock…. Granted, Clay can sing. I am, but wasn’t always, a fan of his. His talent changed my mind. But I’m somewhat ashamed to hear him critize Adam in such a manner. He should have left it with, “Not my cup of tea.” Sorry Clay…. But you went overboard.
Personally…. I think Adam ROCKS and has a set of pipes that only God can give. I hope he has an outragously long career.

Becky | 6/9/2009, 11:34 pm EST

Clay, I have to say that I am very disappointed in you. Making a comment about Adam singing Ring of Fire without ever hearing him sing any other songs. I agree it was different, not my favorite, however he sure knew how to make it his own! I wish you would have heard him sing Tracks of my Tears!! Beautiful! I think you need to be careful of what you say, there are so many people out there waiting to rip you apart. Remember, what you put in writing everyone can read it and may take things the wrong way and that doesn’t make you look good.

Becky | 6/9/2009, 11:42 pm EST

Clay, I have to say I am disappointed in you. You of all people should know that you don’t judge someone on only one song. Do you think Adam would have made the top 13 if he was that bad. I wish you would have heard Adam sing Tracks of my Tears, beautiful! Think before you write.

Rebecca | 6/9/2009, 11:51 pm EST

I agree with Becky, Clay you are such a wonderful singer and a wonderful person but this side of you I don’t care for. I understand that AI was for unknown talent, and yes it has had people on the show that has had a lot of experience, but were having trouble getting people to listen to them and being on AI has given them the chance to put themselves out there and for people to sit up and take notice. Adam and Kris were both good, very different in style but good. Not Adam’s fault for having talent, AI should be explaining exactly who can try out and how much experience they can have to be able to try out. By the way Danny Gokey was terrific! I wish you would watch the show, look where it got you!

Jenell | 6/10/2009, 9:26 am EST

Since when is Clay and expert on music talent. Even if he was, if true, watching one performance….Ring of Fire, (I loved the performance) make him think he can pass judgement on Adam’s talent. I watched Idol when Clay competed and this years idol by far was the most entertaining. Would I go to watch Clay in concert….not a chance…yawn! Adam….yes, and would know that the entire show would be amazing, with a mix of every genre. Why do people love Adam? He’s not just a one trick pony….he is able to deliver every style. Those who are stuck in one genre of music may not appreciate the variety.
It’s amazing how people think just because someone is not their style of artist that, that makes them bad, I say get a life folks and open up those closed minds….we know your ears aren’t working.

Rhonda | 6/10/2009, 12:48 pm EST

Whos this Clay Aiken guy?

CKNJ | 6/10/2009, 7:27 pm EST

Clay, you may have a right to an opinion, but being so derisive and downright nasty about an incredibly talented and accomplished fellow-performer just came across as you being threatened and insecure.

There is no need to trash someone, you could merely say you didn’t particularly care for his performance style and leave it at that… though it is a little shameful that you did not catch Kris’ performance before having the audacity to compare him to Adam in your trash-piece. My polite opinion is that I way prefer Adam’s singing to yours and have bought all the performances that he did on iTunes however I have never bought any of yours. Does not make you less of a performer but simply not MY kind of performer.

See, now wasn’t that a lot better and a lot more constructive than me saying that your crap is the last thing I would ever buy because it makes my head wanna explode listening to it?

I thought so too.

NurseTracy | 6/11/2009, 8:39 am EST

Bitttttter. Wow. I can’t even imagine why someone would say such strong insults about Adam Lambert and American Idol. Being ignorant enough to admit to not watching Adam in any other episodes, but publicly condemning him and American Idol really says something about Clay’s mentality. He probably should have took a second look at Adam and his real, unbelievable talent before making such harsh judgements. Both Adam and Chris were very talented. I thought that American Idol pulled off an amazing season. It is the first season that I (and my family)couldn’t wait until each episode aired. We clung to the TV during every episode, and couldn’t believe how talented Adam, Chris, Danny and Allison (and the other contestants)all were. Clay, I have only heard your name here and there, but after this outrageous reponse, I don’t think I want to or ever will be a fan of yours. I have been a fan of Adam since the first time he performed on AI, and can’t wait to get his new album. I actually am really excited about my AI tour tickets-I’m going to see the tour in August.

jloguercio | 6/11/2009, 6:26 pm EST

Clay – GO AWAY !!!!!

…………..
That’s the point, he only listened to 90 seconds of One song, then said even though friends whose opinions he trusted told him Adam was great, he was still SURE he wouldn’t like any performance. And he put it in the public part of the site. His latest blog was public. I read it. He knew things he posts there will end up on the internet, since they have in the past. So…shame on Clay. Not a cool move, at all. Even some of his fans were disappointed about what he said.

IVYLAMBERT:) | 6/12/2009, 10:48 am EST

To Clay Aiken:
What the heck do you know? What have you done since the show? And who do you think you are? You don’t know talent if it was right in your face. And Adam Lambert has TALENT. He can sing 50 billion times BETTER THAN YOU! Who are you anyways? And you “tried to apologize for what you said” but honestly, i think your just jealous bacause you’re not the only gay guy on the show anymore, and he has SO MUCH MORE TLAENT THATN YOU IN EVERY WAY! In season whateverseasonyouwerein you were my favorite, and i supported you. then as the years went by, i didn’t really care/ i was neutral. but now i hate you with a passion. how dare you talk about him like that? he is so amazing and so fantabulous. you have no life. i hope you have fun living your boring life in the retirement home.

He's Right | 6/12/2009, 1:14 pm EST

I agree with everything Clay said. And you all are pissed because you know he’s right!

He's Right | 6/12/2009, 1:16 pm EST

He’s right

Glamberts AUSTRALIA | 6/14/2009, 8:26 am EST

Australia wants to know exactly who is this Clay Aiken?…..but
WE SURE DO KNOW ADAM LAMBERT!
ROCK ON ADAM!!!

RawTalentLikeAdam | 7/1/2009, 10:41 pm EST

Clay should listen to Adam’s other songs, like Mad World or Tracks of My Tears. I personally thought Ring of Fire was the sexiest thing since sliced bread, but we all have our own opinion, but please, Mr. Aiken, don’t listen to one song and say “MY EARS!!! THEY ARE BLEEDING!” If you’re gonna hate someone, at least listen to all there work to make sure you hate them :/

glambertcougar | 7/6/2009, 4:18 pm EST

I just read Aiken’s comments (his music is not my cup of tea and I had fogotten he existed). I think the Australia’s Glambert comment from 6/14/09 is best – the world knows who Adam Lambert is, not because judges were partial, but because he is an outstanding talent. I don’t think it is wise to pick on a giant! Of course, Lambert could care yes, and so could I.

glambertcougar | 7/6/2009, 4:20 pm EST

I meant to say Adam Lambert could care less!

JA | 7/22/2009, 1:57 pm EST

i’M SURE THATS NOT THE ONLY THING BLEEDING ON CLAY

Mark B | 9/22/2009, 6:56 pm EST

Clay Aiken lost to Ruben because he sung the wrong Lyrics on the final show for all the gold. They were dead even until he choked.
