Lambert Vs. Allen: The “American Idol” Finale Live Blog

5/20/09, 8:04 pm EST

Photo: Mickshaw/FOX

It’s the final countdown! Hope. Dreams. Sweat. Tears. And that’s just the guy whose job is guiding Paula up the stairs. Last night was just the first round — tonight we find out who took the crown. Full disclosure: I voted at least two dozen times for Adam. (I hit a pocket between 11:45 and 12:30 East Coast Time when I was getting through one out of three times.) So did 100 million other voters, all of whom would have gladly cast a ballot to keep from hearing that dogvomit Kara ballad “No Boundaries” again tonight. Too bad. We’re hearing it again. And watching a new Idol take the crown.

For reference: the Kara who wrote the godawful coronation ballad about the hurricane is the same Kara who wrote “La La,” the 2004 Ashlee Simpson hit that’s still a single-of-the-decade contender around this apartment. But the thought of hearing it again is pretty traumatic at the moment. No matter. Last night Adam took round one handily with his cowl-and-fog reinvention of “Mad World,” then nailed it with “A Change Is Gonna Come.” Kris didn’t come close to matching him in terms of vocals, but he seems like a nice guy, right? Nice white suits! Adam looks like such a Clockwork Orange droog!

8:09 pm: They’re all here! Lil Rounds! Anoop! Allison! Alexis! The whole top 13! In those white suits! I missed you, blind guy! I love how you can still hear Adam’s screech above the whole choir. I always love when Allison and Adam are snuggling — it reminds me when she was hugging Kris and Danny goodbye, then turned to Adam as if to say, “I’ll miss you most of all, scarecrow!” “So What” was an awesome beginning, the kind of uptempo number that was sorely missing during last night’s ballad-heavy torpor. I am predicting a night of festivities that will make the David Hassehoff inside all of us shed some Glambert-shaped tears.

8:17 pm: Making David Cook sing a song called “Permanent” is kind of a mean joke. Egads, I forgot how boring you were last year, Cookster — sorry. He’s the Kris kind of Idol, the kind of singer who may not be the most talented, but tries hard and tugs heartstrings and squeaks by week after week as the flashier ones fizzle. I watched last night’s performances over and over again, and I was surprised that Kris handled himself so well on the first couple of songs, before he gokeyed out at the end. Although I’m predicting (and rooting for) a Glambslide, it’ll be far from an atrocity if Kris wins.

That’s why this season was such an up — it was a likeable crew, and even the ones who couldn’t sing weren’t so unbearable to spend time with, right? I wasn’t into the Gokedragon’s voice in the least, but I liked him fine. Same with that Alexis, who sang “Jolene” despite not being able to hit a single one of the high notes in the chorus, and yes, even you, Blind Guy Who Ryan Seacrest Attempted to High-Five. I think it’s the Glambert Effect: his star power just increases the energy level for everyone around him — even Simon looks glad to be there this season. I think Paula said it best: “Adam, you dare to dance in the path of greatness!” But then, Paula always says it best, doesn’t she?

8:27 pm: LATIFAAAAH! And Lil Rounds, who always seems so game even though she can’t carry a tune at all — she got kicked off the show for fubaring up the melody to “I’m Every Woman,” which barely even HAS a melody. No matter. All is forgiven tonight. LIIIIL!

8:32 pm: Oooo, Anoop is getting IRIE! And Alexis too! And Jason Mraz! And my MUTE button!

8:40 pm: Kris Allen and Keith Urban. Nice. I think I like Kris because I like how he spells his name just like Cheryl Ladd’s character on Charlie’s Angels. He kind of looks like Cheryl Ladd, too. Why didn’t they give Glambert the country song that goes “I wanna kiss a girl”?

8:45 pm: Aaaaw — all the girls are singing Fergie’s “Glamorous” together, just like the girls’ choir did on “Gossip Girl.” Flossy flossy!

8:49 pm: Randy’s the only judge who gives Fergie a standing ovation. Or maybe he’s just wondering why she’s wearing the floormat out of his car. Fergie just got a whole line censored, maybe for profanity or maybe because this song is almost as bad as “No Boundaries.”

8:58 pm: Rock of Love reject Bikini Girl does a duet with Bikini-Clad Judge Kara, who apparently wasn’t 100% sure she already sealed her doom on this show with “No Boundaries” last night. There aren’t even enough G’s for this UGGGH.

9:04 pm: Cyndi Lauper? Another Gossip Girl moment! “Time After Time” is like my sixth favorite Cyndi song, but seeing her scat along with Allison Iraheta is what insanely padded finale episodes are for. Glambert needs to bust out some “She Bop” right about now.

9:05 pm: We’re an hour into the show and not a single Glambert shriek? This is NOT MY NOW. I am not INSIDE MY HEAVEN. Idol is not MAKING ME PROUD. (Sorry, just bracing myself for that crap coronation ballad.) Come on, Idol, Glambert is your sole meal ticket this season. Turn that bitch out and make him SING.

9:08 pm: Lionel Richie! You are looking EASY, my man, like a SUNDAY MORNING. (Glambert, get out there and do some “Brick House.” What, are you on vacation night? How long are you taking in that makeup chair?)

9:09 pm: Lionel is KILLING IT. Taste this moment, Gokey. This is so your now! It’ll never be this good again.

9:16 pm: Yeah, Glambert’s “Ring of Fire.” Remember that one? Randy Travis: “I’m speechless.”

9:18 pm: WOW! Glambert meets Kiss! You wanted the best and you got it! “BETH!” Wow. LOVE those…uh…shoulder pads? Snake cages? What the hell is that you’re wearing? Fire your LOVE GUN, Glambert. He is KILLING “Detroit Rock City.”

9:21 pm: Kiss Meet The Phantom of the Park had nothing on Kiss Meet The Phantom of The Glamb-Screech!

9:24 pm: That was even greater than Cyndi with Allison. To recover, I’m going to need some cold gin, tequila, vodka and orange juice.

9:26 pm: Well, THAT was a star. Maybe if Adam doesn’t join Queen as their new lead singer, he could tour with Kiss. He could be Ace, right?

9:28 pm: This is so my now it’s not even funny. Adam rocking (and rolling over) with Kiss was just about the best thing on Idol ALL SEASON LONG. Am I right or am I wrong?

9:30 pm: I was so excited about Santana doing “Black Magic Woman” until Timberfake started to sing. That song belongs to Allison, who is trying to make a devil out of all of us. Jorge, I missed you! Oye como va, Seacrest! This is kind of great, but maybe I’m just still in shock from “Rock & Roll All Nite.” Is that Heather Locklear in the crowd? Smooooth!

9:31 pm: Steve Martin? WTF? Are they going to do “The Grandmother Song?” “King Tut”? Some of those Three Amigos ballads?

9:33 pm: I have the strange feeling this Steve Martin banjo bit is not a joke. I’m not sure, though. Comedy is not pretty! That was perhaps the strangest thing he’s been involved with since “The Man With Two Brains” — and why didn’t he get down with Queen Latifah to re-enact scenes from Bringing Down The House?

9:37 pm: Commercial break = watching Adam sing “Rock & Roll All Nite” again! You show us everything you got, baby baby that’s quite a lot, you drive us wild, we’ll drive you crazy.

9:40 pm: “Do You Think I’m Sexy”? Is Rod Stewart coming out?

9:41 pm: RAAAAAAWWWWWWD!

9:43 pm: Okaaaay, Rod isn’t in 100% top voice right now, but check out Janice Dickinson playing air mandolin!

9:44 pm: Oh Rod, you made a first class fool out of me, but I’m as blind as a fool can be. I wonder why they didn’t get Steve Martin to bust out the banjo on this one.

9:52 pm: Another commercial break: rewatching Cyndi and Allison. Oh, these girls just wanna have fun.

9:54 pm: “We Are The Champions!” This is fucking brilliant.

9:55 pm: Adam and Kris singing this song to each other is pretty fucking sweet. They sure made it happen with the classic rock guest stars tonight.

10:00 pm: Down to the wire. Final results!

10:03 pm: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. [Editor's note: Kris Allen won]

10:04 pm: Shock.

10:05 pm: Trauma.

10:06 pm: The 5 stages of Kris

Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance

I’m somewhere between 1 and 2. No, still stuck at 1. But how relieved is Adam not having to sing “No Boundaries”?

10:10 pm: Kris is shocked. Adam is taking it better than Kris. I thought I was prepared for this, yet the scent of “preposterous bullshit” hovers in the air. Kris was incredibly gracious with his apparently sincere “Adam deserves it,” Allison was adorable snuggling with Adam, and me, I feel like the senator in The Godfather who says, “I’m gonna find out what the hell happened here today.” I AM GIVING A GOKEY “DREAM ON” SCREAM OF DISMAY.

What a shocker. I would have bet one of my kidneys that the winner was going to be my black-leather-clad demon-prince hero! Well, now is the time to congratulate the winner, not to bang our heads against the wall and wail “Mad World,” so let all of us Glambskanks just take a moment from our grief to wish Kris a long, prosperous, and happy career. Congratulations, guy. But in all honesty, my head and the wall are demanding a little together time right now. So thank you for the music, Glambert. We will meet again.

[Editors note: distraught Glamberts can console themselves by gazing at photos of Adam Lambert's glorious Idol moments. Plus check out What's Next for Adam Lambert.]

Kris is the more talented singer/musician/artist, while Adam is the more talented/dramatic performer, who also can sing. I would prefer to listen to Kris’ recordings long term, and see Adam perform/sing on stage.

BupsJones | 5/20/2009, 8:44 pm EST

Is this a blog or a roast?

ei | 5/20/2009, 8:50 pm EST

i can’t wait to see who adam is paired with!

Charity | 5/20/2009, 8:57 pm EST

Way to go Kara!

KaptainKirk2 | 5/20/2009, 8:59 pm EST

Boy, Rob S nailed it. Kris is nice, but not bankable enough for Simon/Sony. Adam is amazing both for his vocal capabilities and his theatricals. I would buy a CD from Adam. With the right backup group, Adam could soar like Kelly, Carrie and Chris Daughtry. Good luck tonite SD son.

StrummerJones | 5/20/2009, 9:04 pm EST

““La La,” the 2004 Ashlee Simpson hit that’s still a single-of-the-decade contender around this apartment.”

I’m sorry, what?

Robin | 5/20/2009, 9:06 pm EST

David Cook was the most interesting, exciting performer AI has ever seen (including Adam Lambert) and yes, he tugs on heartstrings, because he’s real and is connected to his music. And no one “made” him sing Permanent..he wanted to sing it, in memory of his brother, and all proceeds of the song and performance on itunes go to support Brain cancer research. What kind of journalist are you?

StrummerJones | 5/20/2009, 9:10 pm EST

David Cook could do covers.

He can’t do originals, it seems.

pedxing | 5/20/2009, 9:11 pm EST

did cindy lauper ever once look at Allison?

Nick M. | 5/20/2009, 9:19 pm EST

With all due respect to previous posters, I’m going to have to disagree with some things. I think that Kris is one of the blandest Idol contestants I’ve ever seen (and certainly this season). Every song he sings sounds the same, a flaw that’s hard to overlook even when the songs he sings are from totally different genres. As far as Cook is concerned, I thought he, well, sucked. The song was boring, the arrangement was boring, and the lyrics lacked any sort of grace. The fact that the single’s proceeds to go cancer research is far and away the best thing about him. In addition, NOBODY on this show is an “artist” yet – they are simply singers who hope to make the leap, and as far as that goes, Adam easily shows the greatest talent and showmanship. So I’m hoping that he comes out victorious.

Jaylah | 5/20/2009, 9:19 pm EST

I’m with you Rob, where the hell are you Adam? lol….I still can’t get over his Change is gonna come performance lastnight…He took that to Church…AMEEEEEN!!!

erica | 5/20/2009, 9:21 pm EST

this glambert moment has to be your now, rob!

MonaKayKay | 5/20/2009, 9:24 pm EST

Yawn….I already lived thru Kiss and the scary tongue man. I hope Adam doesn’t aspire to that for his future.

Jaylah | 5/20/2009, 9:27 pm EST

ROCK ON ADAM!!!!YEEEEAHHH!!!!

S | 5/20/2009, 9:29 pm EST

What’s a Glambert?

dinnie | 5/20/2009, 9:35 pm EST

I am thinking that Adam should win this competition. He has the marketability. While Kris is cute and sings his heart out on every song, he is so normal!

OldLadyol | 5/20/2009, 9:38 pm EST

I wanted to see Lambert with Meatloaf. Can’t you hear him screaming out “Bat Out Of Hell?” But Kiss rocked.

Marlyne Skaff | 5/20/2009, 9:38 pm EST

ADAM AND KISS ROCK! You, Rolling Stone, reported it! He’s the hottest, brightest star Idol ever produced. He better win!

smdg1011 | 5/20/2009, 9:39 pm EST

DO YA THINK IM SEXY! This is sad

Jaylah | 5/20/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Glambert is the Name given to Adam as his last name is Lambert, his fans decided to add the G spelling Glam short for glamorous together with his lastname. His fans are also referred to as Glamberts.

Jillian | 5/20/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Glambert combines Adams last name (Lambert) with his style (Glam) so it is a nickname for him. Some of his fans also call themselves glamberts.

MonaKayKay | 5/20/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Please somebody….prop up Rod Stewart before he keels over.

menny | 5/20/2009, 9:43 pm EST

Let’s just finish the season, ok? Adam & Kiss was the best fucking thing in universe this competition is ever able to offer us. Period.

Jaylah | 5/20/2009, 9:44 pm EST

Hey Jillian are you a glambert?:)

S / angeLovah | 5/20/2009, 9:45 pm EST

Thanks for the clarification. Can’t wait to read who wins!

smdg1011 | 5/20/2009, 9:49 pm EST

Del Toro strikes back!

MonaKayKay | 5/20/2009, 9:53 pm EST

Apparently Janice and Rod celebrated before AI started.

KS | 5/20/2009, 9:54 pm EST

adam lambert needs to be freddy mercury 2.0. it’s perfect

MonaKayKay | 5/20/2009, 9:55 pm EST

OK….Adam is the champion for that song.

glamberter | 5/20/2009, 9:55 pm EST

loving the updates! Laying in bed in the uk waiting for the big news! How long until the winner is announced? Are they running long?

pk8679 | 5/20/2009, 9:58 pm EST

Adam and Kiss WAS the best thing until Queen showed up! Freddy Mercury would be proud…..

Valentinegirl214 | 5/20/2009, 9:58 pm EST

Why are they Showcasing ADAM ONLY??

What a Crock of Crap!! This finale has been all about Adam…..I hope that means that Kris will WIN!!!

Adam belongs on Broadway and Kris belongs on a Concert Stage!!!

OhYah | 5/20/2009, 10:01 pm EST

Adam and Kiss was the best only until Queen came out! Just wish they had let Kris off the hook and let Adam do We Are the Champions alone. Smokin’!

Paul Stanley | 5/20/2009, 10:01 pm EST

I’m an old wreck.

smdg1011 | 5/20/2009, 10:02 pm EST

WTFWTFWTFWTFWTF!!!!??????!!!!! ! is this happening? is this happening? my brain just stopped.

KS | 5/20/2009, 10:02 pm EST

WHAT?!

KS | 5/20/2009, 10:03 pm EST

all the gokey votes went to kris. no one seems happy about this. not even kris

Brian Nettles | 5/20/2009, 10:03 pm EST

I wasn’t going to watch because I got other stuff to do. This is going to be cool. I’m in California. Thanks for the updates.

tgi101 | 5/20/2009, 10:04 pm EST

wow kris won?
lemme see’em!

pk8679 | 5/20/2009, 10:04 pm EST

At least Adam doesn’t have to sing that crappy song.

OhYah | 5/20/2009, 10:05 pm EST

It was meant to be. Mediocrity continues for Idol. Can’t wait to buy the new Queen album with Adam as their lead singer.

MonaKayKay | 5/20/2009, 10:05 pm EST

My Man Kris. Woo Hoo

Jaylah | 5/20/2009, 10:06 pm EST

O.M.G….I’M SO NERVOUS….

Anonymous | 5/20/2009, 10:07 pm EST

OMG. This sucks. Who’s really going to remember Kris in a year?

pk8679 | 5/20/2009, 10:07 pm EST

Maybe Kris and Taylor Hicks can tour together…..

angeLovah | 5/20/2009, 10:08 pm EST

It’s those teenybopper votes!!!! Well done to Kris nonetheless.

janicelee | 5/20/2009, 10:09 pm EST

The show had to be fixed!!
Adam lambert not winning idol is total crap

mcfc_2 | 5/20/2009, 10:10 pm EST

What a crock. Adam as more talent than teen idol Kris.

glamberter | 5/20/2009, 10:10 pm EST

i’m never watching idol ever again.

Veronica | 5/20/2009, 10:11 pm EST

I will never watch thia crazy mess of a show again. Who the hell voted for Kris.. He sounds like a elementery school play with bad singing….OMG what the hell?????!!!!!

mcfc_2 | 5/20/2009, 10:11 pm EST

If you had to be over 18 to vote Adam would have won

Lily | 5/20/2009, 10:12 pm EST

Well, at least it’s not Danny Gokey. Haha, Danny Gokey = Taylor Hicks version 2.0. I sorta wish Adam won. Kris could have done without the craptastic song Kara wrote.

shocked79 | 5/20/2009, 10:12 pm EST

i can’t believe kris won! I am watching from Australia and Adam you are an awesome performer to watch. you WILL be a star! (can someone please explain exactly what goes on in the American mind to allow this to happen? lol)

nvjosy | 5/20/2009, 10:12 pm EST

Adam deserved to win!! BUT – the only bright side is that I think he only has to sign with them for 1 year instead of the 5 years if he had won. Is that correct? I think Adam not winning will be a bigger story than Kris winning.

janicelee | 5/20/2009, 10:13 pm EST

I won’t be continuing to watch Idol in the future its crap and just because Adam was gay they boycotted him. Not fair

Debs.. | 5/20/2009, 10:13 pm EST

I’m in New Zealand…you could hear a collective gasp around the country…not happy people not happy. America, what were you thinking??

Kay | 5/20/2009, 10:13 pm EST

Idol’s a sham. Adam should have won! Kris is ok but he doesn’t hold a candle to Adam! I’m pissed.

glamberter | 5/20/2009, 10:14 pm EST

i’m actually so upset with this. I wonder whats in store for adam now? This sucks.i hate it i hate it i hate it i hate it. Screw denial, I’M BLOODY ANGRY.

pam | 5/20/2009, 10:14 pm EST

The winner is always the one who sings the Idol written song, which is the winner’s first released single. The songs always suck but it’s what the show is all about. They could have a competition to see who sings their song the best in one show and have the same results as they would after three months of fake tv. The song just didn’t fit Adam’s voice, it was way too lame. Won’t be watching next year, sorry Simon, the jig is up.

IHeartAdam | 5/20/2009, 10:14 pm EST

Adam Lambert was ROBBED. He should have one tonight. Kris is very talented, but Adam was much more talented and he truly deserved to win tonight!

allen lover | 5/20/2009, 10:14 pm EST

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Althage | 5/20/2009, 10:15 pm EST

That was some fine lip syncing at the end there. How cheap and fake can you get? Does anyone know that in reality if you take the Microphone away from your face even a little bit the sound changes if you are not syncing to tape? WTF?? That was terrible. Why did that have to be on when I turned the TV on tonight?

kel | 5/20/2009, 10:15 pm EST

I am so disappointed and genuinely sad for Adam. Chris sounds like a guy from my local baptist church choir. Adam already has the flexibility and star quality. How many people in the WORLD can sign along with KISS and be so natural and perfect?!! I may have lost faith in American Idol. Is it a beauty contest or talent?

Frank Sullivan | 5/20/2009, 10:15 pm EST

What a disgrace. This will mark the beginning of the end for American Idol. The only reason I would watch again is to see Ryan Seacrest beat the living hell out of Simon Cowell.

pk8679 | 5/20/2009, 10:16 pm EST

Hey, it was a school night last night. What kind of parent lets their tweenies stay up late enough to keep voting? ;) Damn it…is it too late to call Child Protective Services?

KS | 5/20/2009, 10:16 pm EST

at least adam won’t have to be bound to the american idol contract. he can have more creative control over his career now.

allenlover | 5/20/2009, 10:17 pm EST

All this shows is that America is tired of freaks like Lambert. Fly away Vampire boy. Hello Kris angel. hahhaahaha

menny | 5/20/2009, 10:17 pm EST

Screw you America.

Simon’s reaction kinda made me smile though. He could care less, he didn’t even stand up for Kris.

Adam’s “duet” with Kiss was the best possible example of who was the star on that stage today. Hint: It wasn’t Kris.

Marilyn | 5/20/2009, 10:19 pm EST

I’m shocked America! You denied a super talented guy because he’s gay! Should’ve known that, America pulled another George Bush nite! Tragic and goodbye AI forever!

bms | 5/20/2009, 10:19 pm EST

that’s it for american idol for me…if someone as good as adam didn’t win then the show is a joke

Jocelyne Bertin | 5/20/2009, 10:19 pm EST

Hi,
Adam his gay and never the american will give him the chance to win, but Adam are the most beautiful humain I never heard and I understand why Simon dont be wake up when the annonce of winner are Kriss.

Because Adam deserved to win this competition.

Im a French Canadian and never never I would see again The American Idol, and you know why?

Because the american are the most hypocrite peoples who never give a chance to a person and just because this person are gay!

So bye bye American Idol, and Adam I will be buy all your CD and I will always love you for your sincerity and I pray you make a big concert and we are going to see you…I pray for your agent to give us a chance to see you in Montréal Canada.

We love you and dont be skeard because you will be a not just be a STAR but you are now a huge star in our heart…

And bravo to Kriss!

capetown, sa | 5/20/2009, 10:20 pm EST

The rest of the world is probably reacting with as much shock and horror as it did when George Bush was re-elected. How can over 50 million Americans be so wrong again?

Trisha | 5/20/2009, 10:20 pm EST

I’m NEVER watching American Idol again!!!

cindeefromwi | 5/20/2009, 10:20 pm EST

I AM SO UPSET I COULD PUKE!

how long before people get bored listening to the same monotone kris and his style

kel | 5/20/2009, 10:21 pm EST

did i not hear ryan seacrest say it was like the the ball had just dropped on new years eve after Adam sang? does that not tell you what the atmosphere must have been like in that auditorium? Adam is already a star. I want to know how much he lost by.

Nicky | 5/20/2009, 10:21 pm EST

That’s bullcrap Adam should have won!

mcfc_2 | 5/20/2009, 10:21 pm EST

Hey Allenlover. It’s past your bedtime!!!!!

Maire | 5/20/2009, 10:22 pm EST

I agree with MonaKayKay. Adam is entertaining, but I could only listen to him in small doses just like I would a Broadway soundtrack. While Kris is completely listenable anytime.

JOE | 5/20/2009, 10:22 pm EST

IT IS UNBELIEVABLE TO ME THAT ANYONE IN THIS WORLD CAN ACTUALLY THINK THAT KRIS HAS A BETTER VOICE THAN ADAM. AMERICAN IDOL IS FINISHED

sargeincharge | 5/20/2009, 10:22 pm EST

Kris Allen is decent, but Adam Lambert is phenominal-no way he should have lost. This was not about talent but teeny bopper votes!!!!!!

jackie | 5/20/2009, 10:22 pm EST

ugh,
kris is such an average singer.
i wish adam won!!!
kris will be just like taylor hicks.
FORGOTTEN.
adam was consistently great each week.
a true idol.
he desereved the title as american idol way more than kris.
kris, is just cute. and teens love him!
but i’m a teen and i HATE kris.
!
i can’t even remember a single performance besides heartless which was performed last weekk..

I am seriously never watching american idol again.
they should have rigged the show!

me | 5/20/2009, 10:22 pm EST

I will never watch this joke of a show again. Good Luck Adam…you will be the most successful idol yet…even if the 8 year old voters got it wrong.

MarCanada | 5/20/2009, 10:23 pm EST

My God! I can’t believe this Idol mediocrity! ADAM WAS ROBBED! I DEMAND AN INVESTIGATION. Kris Allen’s side cheated! ADAM is a star. Simon was thoroughly disgusted. He didn’t even stand and clap. Good for him! I will never watch Idol again!

Missbaby | 5/20/2009, 10:24 pm EST

i swear i’m never going to watch american idol ever again adam was so much of a better singer than kris by far…nor will i buy a single song or CD that has anything to do with Kris allen i will boycott. i think the real reason that adam didn’t win is because america is so conservitive its not funny. people shouldn’t care about adam’s sexuality and in the end i think thats what it came down too! AHHHHHHHHHHHH
P.S. and anyone who thinks kris can sing needs a hearing aid!

valerie | 5/20/2009, 10:24 pm EST

the show was fantastic until the end, I am totally blowed away that Adam did not win. This is the last season American idol will be on in my house. Kris suxs and will never be famous with any body except maybe little children. Adam you r the best

Brian | 5/20/2009, 10:24 pm EST

Adam will have his own show in Vegas…He is the best most versatile talent Idol has ever seen.
The Kris result is pathetic beyond belief.
Good luck to Kris on the lounge circuit.

valerie | 5/20/2009, 10:24 pm EST

the show was fantastic until the end, I am totally blowed away that Adam did not win. This is the last season American idol will be on in my house. Kris suxs and will never be famous with any body except maybe little children. Adam you r the best

Disheartened | 5/20/2009, 10:24 pm EST

I am boycotting all futire AI shows…Adam deserved to win. He is amazing to watch and such an excellent entertainer.

kel | 5/20/2009, 10:25 pm EST

I say we all protest by buying the very first album ADAM records.

whatthehell.. | 5/20/2009, 10:25 pm EST

OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!

Adam is the best talent Idol ever had bar none.

Karen | 5/20/2009, 10:27 pm EST

How pathetic!!! America got it TOTALLY wrong !! Obviously the religious geeks won out. Adam was totally robbed. He is a musical genuis and will go on to be a mega star and Kris will be a one hit wonder and fade into oblivion.

Lauren from Sydney Australia | 5/20/2009, 10:27 pm EST

I had hoped homophobic American could just once recognise an amazing talent – so bold and risk taking, and with a stunning voice, good looking and NICE. But no, once again you went for good looks over substance. So many Australians were watching today and are so disappointed. It is bad news for American Idol as it shows you like ordinary “stars”. Bad decision guys. Disappointed in you.

Anonymous | 5/20/2009, 10:27 pm EST

lol so I never watched this season until part of the last hour of the show and wtf? XD first: even Kris thinks Adam won…2nd: MEGA-lipsyncing!, but 3rd: at least this got Adam out of that heinous deal with AI: its kinda better to be 2nd place than the winner, unless you can pull off a kelly xD

Kaye M | 5/20/2009, 10:27 pm EST

Unbelievable – Kris is OK but My God, Adam has the vocals and the whole ’show’. . . . I thought they were voting for an artist – I could snooze through Kris’ music most of the time, BUT ADAM – I can’t take my eyes off him when he performs! Gay, straight, I don’t care, that boy can SANG!!! I’ll still buy his music and he’s GONNA BE HUGE! I’m still on freakin stun. . . .

whatthehell.. | 5/20/2009, 10:27 pm EST

KA puts me to sleep! nice enough guy- but give me a f.. break!

Brian | 5/20/2009, 10:27 pm EST

Sheer robbery !

Kevin | 5/20/2009, 10:28 pm EST

As a gay man, I must say that I wanted Kris to win as did most of my friends who accept and love me as I am. So, I know there were some who wouldn’t want Adam to win because he might be gay, but honestly some of us just liked Kris better. I’ll probably buy both their CDs. And myabe this will teach the judges to not push a contestant down our throats as the winner so early in the competition.

pk8679 | 5/20/2009, 10:28 pm EST

Hey Marilyn, we feel bad enough as it is. Please don’t throw Bush back in our faces again. That’s just pouring salt in the wound. Just keep repeating, “Adam will be fine, Adam will be fine, Adam will be fine…..”

Nicky | 5/20/2009, 10:28 pm EST

Way to be disrespectful glamberts.
Kris has nothing to do with having won or lost. I mean, damn, he even said Adam deserved it but still you get a group of *ssholes saying Kris is a nobody.

Adam will have a long career.
Get over it.

Erin | 5/20/2009, 10:28 pm EST

Adam is so much more talented, unique, and more fun to listen to /watch then kris is.

he only won because all the little girls think he’s cute and everyone who is old fashioned and religious didnt want a guy who dresses in drag to win.

sargeincharge | 5/20/2009, 10:29 pm EST

Adam will be way bigger star than Kris ever will be. Can someone say Taylor. Hicks?
Al be a way bigger star than Kris
than

AdamRocks | 5/20/2009, 10:30 pm EST

Aaaaaaargh! This is SO wrong! Such a fabulous show and then the whole thing was ruined by the crime that occured at the end. Adam rocks. He wuz robbed!

Shocked2009 | 5/20/2009, 10:30 pm EST

Shocked in a bad way!

Chrissy | 5/20/2009, 10:31 pm EST

I believe the top 4 all deserved to win! I stopped voting because I couldn’t see any of them go. No worries for Adam …you boy are set for life now, and Kris take the moment and go with it you rocked as well as Adam, Danny, and Allison!!!

melina | 5/20/2009, 10:31 pm EST

Who is going to go out and buy Adam’s first album!? ME! I bet he’ll be the next Steven Tyler…
Speaking on behalf of Canada… We believe you Americans are tone-deaf!

MJU | 5/20/2009, 10:31 pm EST

Congrat’s Kris you are humble and deserving

Megan | 5/20/2009, 10:31 pm EST

Just by the comments on this blog, there are only a few people who are happy that Kris won and the rest of the world is baffled! Something went very wrong. Adam has so much more talent. I do agree however that Adam can break free from Idol now. But this will always piss me off.

tx mom | 5/20/2009, 10:31 pm EST

why can’t the voting be one per phone line and let the true volume of supporters be represented. I will not ever watch idol again.

CanadianRockerMom | 5/20/2009, 10:32 pm EST

Adam Lambert will do just fine without having won American Idol. He is probably the best new talent I have seen in years! When they called him a “Rock God” they were so right!

Anonymous | 5/20/2009, 10:32 pm EST

What the heck does Adam’s sexual orientation have to do with anything? and why are so many foreigners assuming this is why he lost? bizarre. I think a few of the bloggers hit it- too many kids are voting. Perhaps there needs to be an age requirement.
Adam, PLEASE TOUR WITH QUEEN! Great outfits! You looked so comfortable and so hot! You have an elvis-like mystique.
this all coming from a 40 year old straing american woman.

oldguy | 5/20/2009, 10:33 pm EST

Stop whinning. All of you that are saying you’ll never watch again are full of crap, and all of you who claim Adam was robbed should have voted more yesterday instead of complaining today. The judges never critized Adam for his weekly scream and Kris can put you to sleep. There’s always next year.

tryin | 5/20/2009, 10:34 pm EST

Absolutely shocked —wonder if they will release the vote count. No worries for Adam — he’s on his way to becoming bigger than any American Idol — AND HE DESERVES IT – THE BOY IS PURE TALENT

kel | 5/20/2009, 10:34 pm EST

Clearly, AI needs to have an age cut-off for voting.

Adam’s confidence and charisma reminded me of a young Elvis.

penbrook | 5/20/2009, 10:34 pm EST

I am completely blown away that America would vote for such a boring run of the mill guy like Allen with his cute barbie doll wife grinning from ear to ear! Aw shuck, them peoples down in Arkansas are happy tonite!
AI is obviously not about talent anymore!!!

Maggie | 5/20/2009, 10:34 pm EST

Adam was the better singer. He should have won.

Terri | 5/20/2009, 10:35 pm EST

I can’t believe that Kris won. Nice guy, but not anywhere near the TALENT that is Adam Lambert!

Jocelyne Bertin | 5/20/2009, 10:35 pm EST

Finish for me to , I never see again American Idol, I have 54 years old and I have 2 little grandaughters and I love ADAM because he have the most huge powerfull voice in the world but …kriss win and I dont feel really good.

Adam deserved to win, because he have each week the talent to make the songs is own but he have the powerfull talent to make that each week and why he dont win???

We all know’s its because a big part of United Stade dont accept the gay peoples. But I dont know why…

Sir Elton John is gay and all peoples accept him and im a Canadian and I accept Sir Elton John.

Its just because Sir Elton John’s make his coming out after he his popular and I thanks this man to wait for tell that in front of USA because the people likes him…nobody deserved more that love like Sir Elton John.

But Adam think in 2009 its probably is time to change the world and accept him for who he his and who he always his.

My Adam sorry baby we all love you and I pray for you to have all love you deserved, because you deserved that love more than anythingggggggg.

Jocelyne Bertin , alias AdamLambertWinder. your big fan’s to live in Montréal Canada…

Love you Adam and bravo to Kriss it is not his fault if he win…

Megan | 5/20/2009, 10:35 pm EST

It was really enjoying this final show! They went all out and made it about the Idols. BUT….RUINED AT THE END!

Cowboy Up | 5/20/2009, 10:36 pm EST

What a joke – we all know who the real Idol should have been. This is my last season of Idol. Wonder if this is why Simon is leaving the show -

OLDER WOMAN | 5/20/2009, 10:37 pm EST

I TOO VOTED FOR FOUR HOURS FOR ADAM. I GOT IN 270 VOTES, BUT I NOTICED THAT JUST BEFORE 12 MIDNITE TO ONE AM, I COULD GET FIVE OUT OF EIGHT CALLS. I THOUGHT THIS SPELLED TROUBLE AND UNFORTUNATELY I WAS RIGHT. ADAM SO DESERVED TO WIN. ALL THE PUBLICITY OF HIS LIFE STYLE AND PICTURES IS WHAT DID HIM IN. OTHER GAY SINGERS OVER THE YEARS STOPPED SUCH BAD PRESS BY PAYING THEM OFF, WHAT ABOUT LIBERACE AND ELTON JOHN FOR EXAMPLE. ADAM DID NOT HAVE THE KIND OF MONEY IT TAKES TO BUY OFF THE PRESS. HE SO DESERVED TO WIN, I HOPE HE GETS A GREAT RECORD CONTRACT IS SPITE OF ALL THIS CRAP.
WE HAVE SEEN OTHERS WIN AMERICAN IDOL AND NOT DO AS WELL AS THE RUNNERUPS. ROCK ON ADAM!!!!

StrummerJones | 5/20/2009, 10:38 pm EST

Here’s something to calm ya: It doesn’t matter. Aside from the trophy, Kris gets nothing more than Adam other than having to sing that damned song (AS HIS FIRST SINGLE) and getting his face on the opening credits of the show.

It’s a real testament to the fantastic personalities of the two finalists. Adam immediately hugged Kris and took it so well that I couldn’t believe it. Kris said what we were all thinking: No, this is Adam’s. He’s flattered, but he knows what’s going to happen. He’s not a Taylor Hicks, at least.

Ex Idol Watcher | 5/20/2009, 10:38 pm EST

I will never watch Idol again.
First Bush, n ow this.Whats up America?

NonAmericaninChina | 5/20/2009, 10:40 pm EST

Yes, this feels just like the re-election of George W Bush… At the end of the day, AI is not a singing competition, but a popularity contest when it comes down to the final two… wasted so many hours following the show… no more for me

julzzy | 5/20/2009, 10:40 pm EST

My father lives in france, I’m going there…….was the consolation prize not singing that awful song? Kris? nice guy , he knew who should have won, but Kiss and QUEEN!!!! they were not there for Kris to sing with them. Adam brought shiny happy things to EVERYTHING! It’s back to a certain bleakness…. plans to even fly over the middle of the country canceled ….at least I now understand why people blog, Thanks for your very accurate reporting.

michelleN | 5/20/2009, 10:42 pm EST

I’M SO ANGRY!! Once again mediocrity prevails. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? Based on every measure of popularity out there (Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Twitter, FB), Adam won by a freaking LANDSLIDE.
Who was it dialing for Kris last night ESPECIALLY after that atrocious version of No Boundaries? Was it Jesus hitting the redial button? GOSH!
OUTRAGEOUS doesnt even begin to describe it. I wanted to believe in America for once, and i was so wrong. American Idol can go die. I’m never watching again.

WhatCrap | 5/20/2009, 10:42 pm EST

I hope Simon doesn’t come back if there’s a next season…that will be my 2nd reason for never watching AI again!
Adam…pffffft to AI…you’re already a star…Kudo’s to Simon for not getting on his feet, it looked like he was as shocked as the rest of us. I’m totally OUTRAGED!!!!

dave powell | 5/20/2009, 10:42 pm EST

man i know i’m whinning but i’m so freaking upset that adam lost! :( i’m bout to start crying! lol kris puts me to sleep! hes good and all but adam is freaking amazing! hes got soooo much more talent than kris! man what an upset! i bet ADAM WILL SELL 10(TEN) TIMES MORE ALBUMS THAN KRIS!!!! good luck adam hope you go far!

KVAO | 5/20/2009, 10:42 pm EST

I won’t be watching american idol again — it is rigged. What a disappointment — so glad i have moved out of the US – american idol and the people that voted for mediocrity — really deserve to have kris as their idol. losers – go back to your non-existent union jobs putting bolts in a fender. brilliant – why don’t you kris lovers go out and find your special cow and show them how talented you think they are.

kel | 5/20/2009, 10:43 pm EST

I don’t get it… did Adam say he was gay? I must have missed that. Why are so many of you assuming he is is gay? He is an artist. Get over it. Are the guys from Kiss then also gay? I’m so upset by Adam’s lost that I’m blogging for the first time in my life.

MonaKayKay | 5/20/2009, 10:43 pm EST

In regard to where is the Kris supporters. They are out celebrating right now…they aren’t sitting around bitching and posting.

habluvr | 5/20/2009, 10:46 pm EST

This is the biggest outrage in American Idol history. Adam is without a doubt, the most talented artist to ever appear on American Idol. In fact, he puts many established artists to shame with his talents. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Queen suddenly announced that they have finally found the singer who can replace Freddie Mercury – Adam Lambert?!

WhatCrap | 5/20/2009, 10:46 pm EST

I actually blame this hypocracy on Kara and Paula for any and all of their moronic comments about Kris.
KRIS COULDN’T BELIEVE IT HIMSELF SAYING, “ADAM DESERVED TO WIN”
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT…LISTEN & LEARN KARA & PAULA!!!!!

smdg1011 | 5/20/2009, 10:46 pm EST

Kris Allen is the Martin Van Buren of Idol’s now!

tx mom | 5/20/2009, 10:46 pm EST

I;d like to know more about the wife’s voting cherade… now Chris will always have to wonder if he won fairly. Have a nice nite, it will soon be overshadowed by guilt.

natureboy | 5/20/2009, 10:48 pm EST

Once again the contestant that tweens want to win wins. This is why this show sucks. If Lambert won at least everyone could say the person who deserved to win won because they had the most talent. Hell, even Kris at the end of the show said “Adam deserves this.” But in the end its better for Lambert. He’ll have record companies lined up at his door and involved in a bidding war, and “Idol” will get stuck with Kris singing a crappy “No boundaries” song and once again the producers will be pissed, why? Because all the tweens who voted for Kris, and all the people who voted for Kris simply because they didn’t want the person who should have won win (Adam) will not end up buying Kris’ album, and so Lambert will go on to make his new record company millions, and “Idol” will get stuck with Kris and “No boundaries.” And next year it will happen again, which is why this is officially my last year watching this show, and it should be yours.

ann | 5/20/2009, 10:48 pm EST

We all know Adam is by far the best talent american idol has ever had on the show. Know one will ever top his brillant voice and performances. America and all over the world will be hearing from him again. Adam rocks my world.

BBahr | 5/20/2009, 10:48 pm EST

America at its finest homophobic state!!! We’re still fighting the same war that Harvey Milk fought for us. Adam is far more talented, yet the public couldn’t allow themselves to vote for an openly gay male. Adam was ROBBED, but he will succeed because he truly has talent. Goodbye American Idol.

WhatCrap | 5/20/2009, 10:49 pm EST

TO: habluvr

YOU’RE COMMENTS WERE SPOT ON!

“This is the biggest outrage in American Idol history. Adam is without a doubt, the most talented artist to ever appear on American Idol. Blah Blah | 5/20/2009, 10:49 pm EST

Okay so WTF! I could have told you this would happen. They were all so good this year! But Adam….Damn he could sing! yet he didn’t have the sweet, shy guy thing going for him like Kris. So I knew he wouldn’t win. The problem with this show is the voting process isn’t fair. Hell I think Allison is just as good as Adam but she didn’t stand a chance because of the little girl voting factor. Little girls 9 and up will use their own phone, their parents phones and their siblings phones to get as many votes in as they can. Do you think they would vote for Allison? I don’t think so. Now let’s take a look at the boys 9 and up. If their gonna vote at all their not gonna vote for a girl. Yuck! Their gonna vote for the cool guys. Maybe once or twice. When they hit 14, 15 years old they might vote for Allison because she’s cute. No offence Kris your awesome, I would buy your CD and give it a listen. But Adam and Allison I would PLAY your CD’s until they were wore out. Mark my words. Every year I pick the people that SHOULD win at the beginning of the season, and then they don’t. But everyone that I have picked went on to have a bigger career that the person that won. There, I’ve said my peace. I’m done.

chris | 5/20/2009, 10:49 pm EST

Im impressed by Kris — very, very gracious and a humble guy. I wanted Adam to win but not surprised at tonights results. Favorite part for me was Brian May of Queen watching Adam sing during their performance. Methinks Brian totally see’s the talent and potential in Adam to be a mega-star… cannot wait to see Adam live.

blest | 5/20/2009, 10:51 pm EST

What is the purpose of the weekly judging. Adam is clearly a student of music. Im done watching idol..How unfair to Adam who clearly was more prepared clearly a more talented singer. They need to check out the voting system.

yougottobekidding | 5/20/2009, 10:52 pm EST

Both nice guys but one great singer one marketable middle American guy that can sing good, but not great. At least we got a good President this time around even if our American Idol is not so noteworthy

Done with Idol

SorryKrisButYouSuck! | 5/20/2009, 10:52 pm EST

As someone else said, Kris is a nice enuff guy but definitely should not have even made it to the final 3!
Simon should’ve signed off the show b4 this happened-he couldn’t even stand and applaud with the rest of the judges. Don’t quit school Kris and keep your day job! This is total BS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointed | 5/20/2009, 10:53 pm EST

What a joke – a great show but I came away throughly disgusted. This should not have been even close. I tried to vote for hours for Adam and only got through a few times. Are they ever going to provide enough phone lines?

djandy | 5/20/2009, 10:53 pm EST

I would love to see a duet between Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert in the future. Kris will be dropped from the label soon anyway but Adam will keep on making hits. Simon wanted Adam to win because Adam will sell records and not Kris. Oh Well its just another stab at prejudice in United States. Go Adam you will be number one soon! (On the Charts!)

yougottobekidding | 5/20/2009, 10:55 pm EST

Two seemingly nice guys; one is a great singer and one is a good singer. The average middle American won I mean was crowned tonight.

Done with Idol

Jocelyne Bertin | 5/20/2009, 10:55 pm EST

kevin,

You just tell that because you have a crush to Kriss and not because he more talented to Adam’s its just that, but I know if ADAM’S not win it is just because he’s probably gay and american peoples who have 40 and + age dont like gay person just that.

Who are really want to see in 2 hours none stop listen Kriss in a concert????? He have a good voice but, he dont entertaining the concert show if he only in the show. Neverrrrrrrr!

But Adam’s in the concert if he his just him in the concert will be entertaining all the peoples and the people would want more than Adam…I know that because his really a big artist and a huge singer…and he make diversed songs , he sing Opera, he sing Soft Rock, he’s also a Pop Singer and more he sing all this music song beautifully so he most huge in a concert to anybody in the Idol was perform.

But lets it for Kriss and we see Adam all in the around the world because all around the world already love him for his talent.

tetonlady | 5/20/2009, 10:56 pm EST

Hey wait a minute everyone, the one with the most votes wins!!!! How many times was Kris in the final 3.

leslide | 5/20/2009, 10:57 pm EST

I will never watch American Idol again. Never. It is a joke. What a waste of time. I want that time back. Watching the most amazingly talented performer all season, just counting off the weeks until the best man won. He was robbed. Seriously, all of those really talented performers out there, beware. Best be a mediocre pretty boy. The texting teeny boppers have the last word. It should be called American “how many times did you call Ashley” Idol. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!

al bundy | 5/20/2009, 10:58 pm EST

damn kara looked hot, even better than bikini girl! Anyway go adam u are the real future of music not kris zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, oh i woke up i thought i was listening to kris zzzzzzz Allen

Di | 5/20/2009, 10:59 pm EST

Ludicrous! “Idol”……………OUT!

bgood | 5/20/2009, 11:01 pm EST

Wow… We are really wallowing in mediocrity if Kris is our American Idol. From the beginning, Adam set the standards vocally for Season 8. He is the true artist and has the star power to succeed. He will surpass Kris in this arena. I feel for the guy. He knew who the true champion should have been.

Dorothy | 5/20/2009, 11:01 pm EST

Mercury retrograde in action! (things go opposite to how they should) Kris is a nice young man whom can sing ok, but Adam is the most talented singer/performer to EVER grace the American Idol stage. The voting system for this show needs to be rectified to include those who don’t have the time to sit pushing redial for 4 hours. Some other shows cap the votes at 10 per voter which doesn’t give that impressive 100,000,000 votes number but it reflects a more honest reality.

Anonymous | 5/20/2009, 11:01 pm EST

The vote had nothing to do with Adam being gay. Maybe some of us like to hear great music without the screaming.
Congratulations Kris!!!
I would definitly buy your record.

Furious | 5/20/2009, 11:01 pm EST

What a shame that American Idol finally had a true star born of the show only to have him lose to a hugely inferior talent who only won because he has a cute crooked face. Anyone who voted for Kris should be ashamed of themselves and apparently never closed their eyes when they heard him sing, cause if they did they would realize they have heard singers like this for years now- terrible backstreet boy voice. Adam is completely original and supremely gifted and will no doubt be a far more important artist in the true musical landscape. This is a pathetic shame and I no longer see any value in this show. American Idol blew a great opportunity to lend real credibility in their supposed goal to find the BEST singer. I cant wait to see how many people buy Kris’s crap album when it comes out. American Idol is done.

julzzy | 5/20/2009, 11:02 pm EST

also…..did anyone even get how genius Adam singing “beth” was? more then the eye crystals , shoulder cages , The Lyrics!

Vicky | 5/20/2009, 11:03 pm EST

Is this show fixed? Do they actually even count votes? What the hell are people thinking? I have been a fan of Idol for years, but this just might be my last!!!!!
Adam Lambert is far more talented and experienced than Kris will ever be.

DeepBreaths | 5/20/2009, 11:04 pm EST

Adam was certainly the most talented, but Americans on the whole are contemptuous of the more talented person. So, while Adam’s records will probably sell better, people will vote for Kris either because they think he needs it more, or because they are threatened by Adam’s talent. I’m writing from the middle of Gokey country, which celebrates mediocrity and distrusts and loathes excellence.

Grandma from Tx | 5/20/2009, 11:04 pm EST

I am an avid AI fan who watches every show. Adam has been WAY ahead of the pack from the very beginning even though this is an exceptionally talented group. I am very dismayed and disappointed that America got it wrong. Really wrong! I am concerned that many times when my daughter and I tried to vote for Adam we got a “number is disconnected message” although we were on redial. Could Kris’ win have been a massive phone malfunction???? I love this show but may not be a viewer next year. Adam was in a different league from any of the others and deserved to win.

wishadamwon | 5/20/2009, 11:04 pm EST

well there’s the end of idol.
simon cowell will go to Britain and host his other famous shows, at least britain knows talent.

unlike america.
adam was the main reasoning i began to watch idol again.
and then he LOST?!

ryan secrest should have rigged the show to let adam win!
aha
who cares if it’s unfair.
at least they would keep people watching next year.

good-bye american idol.

marilyn - asia | 5/20/2009, 11:05 pm EST

I just watched American Idol in my country, guess what? America just proved that Evangelistic Christians/middle America rather let a great talent loose because of his sexual orientation! Sorry, Rob, the world is flabbergasted with America’s decision, again!

Fair Play | 5/20/2009, 11:06 pm EST

Judges are supposed to be neutral but Simon begged everyone to vote for Adam. That’s not right. Probably cost Adam the competition.

Tim | 5/20/2009, 11:07 pm EST

October 3, 1945 Elvis Presley comes 5th place in a talent show…go figure… Go Adam Lambert!

tamg | 5/20/2009, 11:08 pm EST

Just total shock.
Adam so deserved the title.
I am so disappointed. Something needs to change with the voting system.

midwesterns | 5/20/2009, 11:13 pm EST

I am totally upset with the outcome of American Idol. After watching every episode, I would have never thought the outcome would be this. There is no question in my mind that Adam Lambert was by far the best idol ever.

mcfc_2 | 5/20/2009, 11:15 pm EST

Voting should be for people over 18 years old.

lady gaga | 5/20/2009, 11:15 pm EST

I think that Adam lost b/c he was so over the top. I dont think he is as humble as he appears either…but in any case, I got tired of seeing his tongue every other note. It was too much. Yes, He is a great singer, but the voters have spoken. The end.

lady gaga | 5/20/2009, 11:15 pm EST

thanks. now i don’t need to watch. maybe you should wait til we find out on west coast.

Sadder and not wiser | 5/20/2009, 11:17 pm EST

Shades of the 2000 presidential election. A result like this kind of renders the whole process meaningless. Okay, it’s just a TV show. But it’s the Number One TV show. Adam, in an even slightly more perfect world–YOU deserved to WIN this. Did you just hear about 50 million people say “WHAT??!!#^&()@” Producers –hey, this was not a nice thing to do to the national consciousness.

Tommy | 5/20/2009, 11:18 pm EST

Can you say….BullSh#$! I will never watch Idol again…

Corbino | 5/20/2009, 11:20 pm EST

Catholics fault, don’t blame us Christians. Haha. ADAM SHOULD HAVE WON. (and please, do picture someone you know yelling that)

GDigital | 5/20/2009, 11:21 pm EST

I am done with Idol – Kris will go the way of Taylor Hicks. Watch the record sales – Kris can carry that Kara albatross song to obscurity – Adam will soar

Furious | 5/20/2009, 11:21 pm EST

If there is any consolation ta Adam losing it’s that he doesn’t need to sing that godawful, horrendous, hurricane piece of shit song NO BOUNDARIES by Kara. It’s gonna be funny hearing KRIS on the radio struggling to keep up with that shit song.

BonnieD | 5/20/2009, 11:21 pm EST

Congratulations Adam! This means you will NOT be stuck with Americant Idle (spelled correctly)

I am sad, but not shocked over the results. Look at previous stupid results-David Cook, now Kris Allen. The best talent is always 2nd, due to the average low class minds who think Allen or Cook have talent. No one 5 years from now will know who these people are! On the other hand, Adam whose talent is above anything American Idol has produced, except possibly Cary Underwood, can become the next “ELVIS” if he does not confine himself to one type of musical genera. He has the talent and vocal range to sing anything and make it great as Elvis did.
Time will tell who is the real winner. I would spend money to travel to Vegas to see a show with Adam, whereas, I would not walk across the street to see a free concert of Allen or Cook!

jackk | 5/20/2009, 11:22 pm EST

man.
what’s the point of watching idol now if someone who has had the BEST talent on american idol show ever didn’t even win.
he deserved the title.
no one will remember kris as much as they will adam

no more american idol for me unless adam comes back next year!
i miss watching him perform :[

Krisall the way | 5/20/2009, 11:24 pm EST

Ha! Ha! Ha!

I bet this is the last thing you people expected. After a whole season of the shameless plugging, the show’s efforts have failed. While many Americans out there may be mindless idiots, eating up all the bullshit flung at them weekly, it seems many more of us are able to form our own opinions. It’s been very obvious that the producers and the judges wanted Adam to win from the beginning. Why exactly? I have no idea. I personally find his woman-pitched screaming unbearable… but hey if that’s your thing so be it. (But ask yourself…Do you like Adam because you enjoy his singing, or because you have trained by the show to love him? If you actually like him, this is not direceted to you)What’s even worse than Adam’s shrieking is the fact that the show so blatantly favored him. Each judging went a little something like this; “Oh Adam. Please will you just go ahead and bend over so I can kiss your ass. I mean really. That was fucking brilliant. You are a God!”

But Kris won. GREAT! But he is so mellow you say. He’s an acoustic singer!? Exactly! Listen to the radio some time. While you still hear the music-less pop songs on every station, a new wave of music is starting to make a name for itself. Mellow songs and artists are starting to become more popular. Take singers like Jason Mraz, Michael Buble, Jack Johnson. Take bands like The Fray, One Republic. Kris can sing similar to any of these artists. Kris is where music is going. If you want to hear the 70’s and 80’s hair band music that Adam sounds like, turn on the classic rock station.

I am so very pleased that America was able to see through the endless “hints” the producers shoved in their face about their opinions on Adam. While I’m sure blogs and websites will be riddled with angry comments about how “America got it wrong”, I will for one say I am so excited that a MUSICIAN won rather than a PERFORMER.

Mike | 5/20/2009, 11:25 pm EST

Adam…a ship in a fleet of boats…an the dinghy wins.
WTF?

sebastian | 5/20/2009, 11:25 pm EST

The majority of those Americans who voted obviously preferred white bread to talent, but the laugh will ultimately be on them. Adam will go on to achieve greatness while Kris will merely have his fifteen minutes of fame.

E | 5/20/2009, 11:26 pm EST

Adam couldn’t sing a song unless he was in a high key. He has no range.

TommyG | 5/20/2009, 11:26 pm EST

Waaay off base, America. WTF? I’m disappointed that the obvious best singer didn’t win, that’s it for me watching Idol. Buh Buy.

older rod stewart fan | 5/20/2009, 11:28 pm EST

Can’t believe how mad you all are that Kris won. You voted 270 times for Adam? Really? Get a life! Adam’s flamboyant stage presence and shrills got old. He didn’t improve but stayed as he was in the beginning. Yes,he’s talented but not sincere. Why males wear makeup is beyond me; especially already handsome ones! Confused and cocky never wins! Save dress-up for 6 year old girls!
Congrats Kris for being a man as God intended you to be. And, by the way, his voice is awesome!!!

boo | 5/20/2009, 11:29 pm EST

so that is IT for me maybe it is a good thing, personally , as i wasted so much time for years, watching american idol . I refuse to watch it next season….why bother? teeny boppers and bible belters may once again flood the system and vote for some boring person like chris or kris or whatever is his name…….Adam so deserved the title Fox made one big mistake no Fords for me (and i need a new car too) and no more American Idol for me and unless it is family guy? no more fox for me either………have fun Fox…have fun with your teeny boppers and bible belters…….you lost me and I SPEND MONEY

TRVLING GIRL | 5/20/2009, 11:30 pm EST

You know, everything happens for a reason. Truly speaking, this is probably the best thing “professionally” that could have happened to Adam. He will be successful and free to choose any path he wants without being bound by the AI contract….so now he is free to sing with KISS or Queen if he so wants! Awesome night.

Now, I like Kris just fine, easy listening and hometown feeling and can see why he appeals to some people.

Adam on the other hand is the total package – Not just a singer, but a great performer. I am shocked that he won…as much as the next guy, but it will all be well in the end.

Blogging hateful messages about how idiotic americans are or how 50 million americans got it wrong doesn’t help anything…there probably weren’t 50 million americans voting. I’ve read some blogs with people voting 270 times….and therein lies the problem. It should be one number, one vote. That would give you a more accurate result. That’s the flaw with AI, the voting system.

LoisC | 5/20/2009, 11:31 pm EST

I am mad & very upset because Adam didn’t win. I usually don’t watch the show but I did because of Adam. I won’t watch American Idol anymore. I know Adam will have a great career even he didn’t win but still, I am mad & very upset at the result.

Sara | 5/20/2009, 11:32 pm EST

Adam was the best singer by far. His voice moves me. Kris is just OK. I’m disappointed that the better singer didnt win, but who cares, Adam is off to selling millions of records, and as for Kris, I wish him the best, but come on, it was like watching a singer in a high school band. Give me a break please. Even he felt he shouldnt have won. At least he is humble i guess!

cooper | 5/20/2009, 11:33 pm EST

I have a prediction, wann ahear it? …the show has now officially done itself in with this ridiculous voting system. Every one EVERYONE knows that Adam was the better singer by a landslide, even the Kris lovers know this, but they won by voting over and over and over again, hundreds and thousands of time. This time though, EVERYONE knew Adam was the best. There was no doubt, no gray area, he really truly is an amazing performer. I predict Oscars and Grammys and Tonys and awards of all kinds, given by his peers and his fans, not the itty bitty you know what commitee. And here is my next prediction, American Idol will never recover from this fiasco. MARK MY WORDS!

Josie | 5/20/2009, 11:34 pm EST

America is ready for a Bi-racial President, but not a Bi-curious Idol……interesting.

GG | 5/20/2009, 11:35 pm EST

I’m actually glad that Kris won. There is a level of credibility in the industry that doesn’t hit for most Idol winners, and there is a level of success that only has hit a few of the winners as opposed to the winners up….so in saying that, I’m okay with Adam’s having lost. As a person who never paid much attention to Idol until this year. As a lover of rock and roll, everyone said I had to check out this Adam kid. At first I was like….whatever….and then I saw him sing Ring of Fire. I realized that he was on to something. I would hear him and think that he could easily be front a major rock band….so his future will be bright no matter what…and I think Adam will have more credibility in not winning. He also will not have to shake the whole Idol recoding contract off since they won’t be controlling his career.

Tim L | 5/20/2009, 11:36 pm EST

Did anyone see Vote for the Worst? They are claiming that Kris winning is their greatest victory. Ugh.

In the end, Adam will win.

Singing Grandma | 5/20/2009, 11:37 pm EST

As a vocal music teacher, I can tell you that Adam can sing rings around Kris. Adam can sing anything given to him, whereas Kris’ songs all sound the same and he has a limited ability to diversify because of his vocal qualities. Kris is a sweet guy, but this contest should have been about singing and who has the most potential to bring to the public winning recordings!

grammagail | 5/20/2009, 11:37 pm EST

I will never watch Idol again. I have never seen a person as talented as Adam. Maybe Idol should change way of voting?

ms | 5/20/2009, 11:38 pm EST

Adam is the most talented. I think middle America was threaten by this. Adam will have a great career and major impact on the artistic, musice world. The other guy would be footnote in the history book, if at all.

Merle | 5/20/2009, 11:39 pm EST

As Jack said why bother watching American Idol anymore if someone as talented as Adam, who comes along once in a lifetime, can’t win.
Even though Adam will be Ok, he worked so hard and was so consistently wonderful each week, he deserved to win. Our hearts are broken.

MamaMia | 5/20/2009, 11:39 pm EST

Simon Fuller, you just blew it. Let Adam Lambert out of his Idol road show so that this amazing talent will not waste one year of his career! I am a 58 year old white female who grew up listening to the likes of Marvin Gaye, the Beetles, Led Zepplin and so many more. They were musicians in my time, not past legends. I know talent when I see and hear it, and Adam Lambert is genuine talent. I want MORE!!!

Daisy | 5/20/2009, 11:40 pm EST

Don’t forget that Adam is probably better off being unconstricted by AI’s contractual obligations to sing POP music. As second place winner he can be free to make any kind of music he wants and will thererfore be more successful than he would be if he had won!

Sense | 5/20/2009, 11:41 pm EST

Kris is a cute face but a forgettable, and average voice that that little girls texted into the top spot. Adults don’t bother voting, but after witnessing this farce maybe they should. All I can say is, “Adam, you got robbed”….

Deborah Brown | 5/20/2009, 11:41 pm EST

I am from Canada, so had to sit back and trust the US voters. Would love to have seen Adam and Allyson win, they were the only two who did not stand out as mediocre, soft backstreet boy material. I love passionate singing and thats what they displayed. I was sooooo disappointed Adam didn’t win simply because I have floor seats to see him in Hamilton and he would have likely been the main character, if not the MC. Oh well, I won’t be watching Idol again. I know that doesn’t make alot of difference to anyone. But I have read alot of others on here too. And I bet you won’t see Simon there next season. I bet he was disgusted.

emmalyn | 5/20/2009, 11:43 pm EST

Deborah Brown | 5/20/2009, 11:43 pm EST

cassiee | 5/20/2009, 11:44 pm EST

i won’t ever watch american idol again unless they make adam lambert a judge or something.
replace kara!
adam was the best this show has ever seen.
sucks that an average, cute guy won.
it’s about the talent.
i am 14 yrs old.
and i’m personally mad at any of my friends who say that adam screams and kris is better..
outrageous.
never watching idol again.
!

they just lost a ton of viewers according to everyone who blogged on here.

countryboy | 5/20/2009, 11:47 pm EST

I really enjoyed Kris’s singing and his acoustic ability and sound should not be slighted. BUT – If I were spending my money to see a show, I would stand in line for hours to see Adam Lambert, the guy was so far ahead in not only talent but stage presentation, for him to lose is one of American Idol’s lowest moments. I will be listening to Adam Lambert’s CDs, hearing him on the jukebox at the bar and then trying to stay awake when listening to Kris on AM radio.

Some Dude | 5/20/2009, 11:49 pm EST

I’m happy Adam Lambert lost. Because he lost, he has the possibility to front a rock band instead of have some lame ass pop career under that crap American Idol contract. Celebrate Lambert, you jus got a God send.

Trust me, Adam will go very far. I will buy his first CD and I venture to say he will go on to be the rock artist of this decade and beyond. A legend has been born. Trust me I’ve seen them come and go. Adam is here to stay !.

HEman | 5/20/2009, 11:52 pm EST

why are yall whining so much? it doesnt matter who wins? they both are discovered. both will be successful! not like the loser immediately falls back into performing at smoky bars. both kris and adam have a record deal waiting for them and they will tour frequently for the next 5-10 years. quit crying about the talent losing. they both won.

jenny | 5/20/2009, 11:52 pm EST

I agree with previous bloggers: Adam will be the next lead singer for QUEEN and won’t to worry about the American Idol contract. This was a blessing in disguise for him!!!!

Homophobia was idolized tonigh | 5/20/2009, 11:53 pm EST

I was so hoping the dumb mediocre masses will get it right this time… We should just all forget this night of SHAME and put some cash in Glambert’s pocket, when his album is released.

Conway did a better job of supporting their boy.

Don’t be mad at Kris, he publicly stated, didn’t think he deserve the win.

*enjoy your 15 minutes, kris!

Adamfan | 5/21/2009, 12:05 am EST

Some consolation for all the Adam fans.
1. He won’t have to ever sing the atrocious ‘coronation’ song.
2. He won’t be tied up with an ironclad, straightjacket contract from 19 Entertainment and churn out elevator music for years to come.
3. After the AI tour I will bet there will be far more lucrative offers on the table for him to choose from.
4. Only one more year and we will have our Adam delighting us with his phenominal talent under a ‘real’ record label.

Jody0124 | 5/21/2009, 12:06 am EST

I loved Adam’s originality, but I really did get tired of the screaming — because all the songs started to sound alike. But I REALLY hated his tongue sticking out all the time. It was an affectation — almost as bad as Gene Simmons in KISS — If Adam had toned it down just a notch, he probably would have won.

I expect both Kris and Adam to be successful. Each of them will play to their own fans instead of trying to score points with the entire AI audience.

Oh yeah, definitely Kris is way more talented in GUITAR and PIANO… but hmm, it’s not a guitar or piano competition is it? Adam is best at SINGING and ARANGING SONGS and PERFORMING. Why the hell did Kris win? I know! Little tweens think he’s cute. Sorry if I’m “offending” anyone. I need to rant. Adam deserved it. he was honestly better.

Sorry Simon Fuller, I’m not watching Idol anymore! You showed me for sure this year that this show is rigged and fake and unfair. No more Idol for me.

ParkCityMom | 5/21/2009, 12:17 am EST

A very sad day, indeed. But what a show ADAM put on!!!! Kiss AND Queen??? Unbelievable, and ADAM rocked hard!!! Well, this isn’t the ending we all wanted…so now I say we continue to rock the vote for ADAM by voting with our wallets. ADAM, lead the way please.

Kim | 5/21/2009, 12:20 am EST

Adam and KISS ROKCED! OMFG that was awesome! And Adam w/ Queen rocked too! He is amazing and can rally give great performances. I am so sad that he lost to f-ing Kris Allen. Who is Kris anyway? A nobody. Sorry.

The only good thing is that Adam won’t have to sing that awful song again. So Kris can have it. Adam is the true star anyway.

I love You Adam and You’re f-ing Aweseom!!!!!

Music Industry Insider | 5/21/2009, 12:22 am EST

Newsflash! Adam actually WON!!! Let me explain: If Adam was named the “American Idol”, his lifestyle would have been scrutinized & he would have been open to scandal because of things that are out there. The Producers knew this! But they also knew he can be an International Superstar. In my opinion, they engineered a 2nd place finish for him. If Kris finished 3rd, his votes would have been split. With an equally “polarizing” Danny, an Adam-Danny Finale would have meant an Adam win. So they “overpraised” Danny’s weak perfomances to rile people up, got him knocked out at 3rd knowing his “sheep” would flock to Kris and ensure an Adam loss. At the same time, Adam gets maximum exposure through the Finale, becomes a beloved/sympathetic figure as “the guy who got robbed”, gets a major label record deal and he’s been so “showcased” during the season that he doesn’t need the crown-he’s already a Star. Kris is collateral damage. In many people’s minds, he now takes over Taylor Hick’s title of the “winner who didn’t deserve it”. They’ll let him release one album, half-heartedly promote it and then drop him. (While I supspect Adam will be working with the best in the business on his album and will be heavily promoted!). The show can afford to have a weak winner this year because they’ve already got their Star & money-maker…Adam!

DisappointedMom | 5/21/2009, 12:23 am EST

My children were in tears over this travesty! Hope you’re happy, AI. I won’t put them through that again!

cindyleeberryhill | 5/21/2009, 12:24 am EST

Gahdammit, that sucked. I hate that show anyway. But it sure puts me in a lousy mood when the wrong guy wins.

No matter. Adam is king. And Kris will have to do a year of those lame-live-Idol shows.

Did you notice that the real rock gods each shot Adam a “you the man” ? Santana reached over and shook Adams hand in the middle of Santana solo and guitarist from Queen could hardly look at anyone but Adam and mouthed “you the man” after that song.

Rock and Roll knows they’re own kin. Adam is a true rock icon….I look forward to the ride. clb

It’s late, but I’m so upset I can’t sleep. It helps to hear so many others who feel the same outrage. I really do think this is the end of American Idol. I’ll never watch again. America can be such a plebian place. I just hope Adam’s confidence is not hurt. He’s a stunning talent and he should blow off the AI “reins” and be totally his amazing self. The world needs his shine.

ChrisR266 | 5/21/2009, 12:42 am EST

Those two moments at the end–Lambert singing with Kiss, and that almost orgasmic moment with Queen (I prayed for something like this moment all season long)–were the triumph of the true American Idol this evening. Anyone notice how Lambert held those vocals back with Queen? He showed an admirable and genuine level of respect to Allen by not blowing him out of the doors of the theatre with what he could have (but chose not to do) vocally in “we are the champions.” That my friends, was class. Everyone in Nokia got that, too. Queen got that too, and still had trouble hiding their thrill with what Lambert did do with that song. I agree Idol has jumped the shark with this coronation, and the outcome has cured me of Idol as well, but I cannot wait to see what this marvelous, fantastic talent is going to do–he IS going to rock our world, in a way we haven’t experienced in a long, long time. Hold on to your seats!

Old Mom | 5/21/2009, 12:49 am EST

Dear Rob Sheffield, Thanks for the brilliant sense of humor. Your blog may get me through the serious dose of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder I feel coming on after the finale’s unexpected result.

Berns | 5/21/2009, 1:01 am EST

Wow! Intense anger from Adam fans, whoohoo! So much has been said about Kris being ordinary and so-so compared to Adam. Are you guys blind or deaf? I mean even Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino spoke highly of him. Chris Daughtry twitters for Kris votes, Melinda Doolittle praises him on her blogs, and David Archuleta thinks Kris is a genuine artist.

Adam is huge but he’s just not for everyone. His style goes well with Kiss and Queen, both legendary but also both from the 70’s. While Kris did great with 80s and 2000 songs, and his duet with Keith Urban was a preview of what he will be in the future.

Kris’ music I can play all day and everywhere, Adam’s songs maybe just ocassionally. Adam has a powerful voice, but Kris has a soothing and lovable voice. They are too different to be compared, it just went down to who had more fans.

P.S. I’m neither tween or Christian but I prefer Kris Allen.

Lola | 5/21/2009, 1:02 am EST

Get over it everyone….it was a show. They’re both going to have careers in music. And right….you’ll never watch AI again. That’s the way to do it….stop watching so none of the up and comings have this awesome opportunity ever again. The world isn’t going to stop turning. Good God.

Bryan | 5/21/2009, 1:06 am EST

I’ve only watched this season sparringly, but here’s what all the Glambert fanatics here are missing:

Is he the more talented singer? Yes, I don’t think there’s a question there.

But he’s WAY over the top singing those rock songs. TOO MUCH vibrato. Ruins the song. Obviously miles ahead of Gene Simmons on a talent standpoint, but I’d still rather here Gene sing because he’s got a rock voice.

If he harnesses the vibrato and brings it out at the right time, he’ll be a step closer.

lisa klein | 5/21/2009, 1:07 am EST

That’s the last time I watch idol. Pathetic.

Jayrbart | 5/21/2009, 1:15 am EST

Am I the only one that thinks it should now be
QUEEN+ADAM LAMBERT since Paul Rodgers is callin it quits

Tracie | 5/21/2009, 1:16 am EST

I believe Simon is 100 % correct when he told Adam that we have truly found a world wide star! Adam’s musical abilities are brilliant.

ParkCityMom | 5/21/2009, 1:18 am EST

Just saw an interview with ADAM — says he’s already received some offers and plans to start recording very soon. Stay tuned, ADAM fans!!!

Miami DJ | 5/21/2009, 1:19 am EST

Take it from a radio DJ…Kris fans won’t be celebrating for long. Adam Lambert will own the tour and his debut album will outsell Kris’s by millions. That’s where the “real winner” will emerge!
Remember this?
Chris Daughtry’s debut album: Sold more than 5 Million copies worldwide, has gone Platinum 4 times, reached #1 on the Billboard chart, won an American Music Award and was nominated for 4 Grammy’s
Taylor Hicks debut album: Sold 700,000 copies.
And Taylor was actually a “more popular/frontrunner” winner than Kris and Chris a “less popular” loser than Adam.
Adam fans…just sit tight. The tour starts in 2 months (His reviews are going to be unreal!!!) and those albums should be out in about 6 months. Personally, I can’t wait to play Adam’s songs on my program and I know many other DJ’s feel the same way.

Chris | 5/21/2009, 1:20 am EST

There’s a simple way for Adam fans who bought tickets to the summer Idol tour to show their displeasure. Since Kris won, he will perform last, Adam will be next to last as the runner-up. When Adam finishes his set, just get up and walk out. I am looking forward to seeing Adam on a solo tour once he is far away from the corrupt Idol machine.

Ray | 5/21/2009, 1:23 am EST

Why does anyone in their right mind care? Mindless made for television garbage. Rolling Stone magazine, once the bastion of true rock & roll, has once again sold out. John Lennon has to be looking down at all of this and laughing his damn head off. RS has come a long way from the days when they were cutting edge.In all fairness, they are no worse than the viewers who swallowed this pablum and came back to ask for more.

FREAKER | 5/21/2009, 1:25 am EST

WTF happened how does adam not win it was soooo obvious that he was better the proof came when SIMON COWELL gave him a standing ovation during Mad World ARGH!!!!!!! This is the last time i ever watch idol they did it before and now theyve done it again!!

Jeremy | 5/21/2009, 1:26 am EST

Anyone else notice how simon didnt stand up when they announced the winner — thats because he was DISGUSTED as well as the majority of the people who watched the show (excluding the cesspool known as the state of Arkansas)

A not-so-American-dol fan | 5/21/2009, 1:27 am EST

Adam, you are the real Champion. Even Kris know that. He was in shock like the rest of the world was. I hardly watch the American Idol until I saw you sing one night. I followed through since then. So, this is quite shocking and disappointing to me that you lost. But I know you have a great future in your career. You are a STAR!

karavottedoff | 5/21/2009, 1:29 am EST

kris is such a mediacore talent i believe this is miss usa pageant where will remember the loser at the end of the day adam has more people talking about him than kris check out all the blogs and kara needs to go

Jeremy | 5/21/2009, 1:29 am EST

Chris — i like that idea — everyone should stand up and leave before Kris sings his final song when they go on tour (not like you would probably be able to hear his weak and uninspiring voice anyways) — Kris Allen shouldnt have even been in the top 5, let alone be crowned the winner of AMERICAN ‘conservative’ IDOL

Deedle | 5/21/2009, 1:36 am EST

I’m in shock–officially dipping into a depression. I really thought Adam would win, but I do think Kris has talent as well. I give him kudos for singing that awful “no boundaries,” song very well at the end. And I’ve forgiven Kara for her part in writing it since she rocked her song with that fabulous hard body. Yes, I’d like to hear more from her.

Adam is far too glam to be sitting on the back of a Ford Fusion in little hometown parades. Look at the bright side. He will never sing at any venue associated with Disney. He would have been crucified by the press for his style and difference. He will go on to great things! I’ll support him with my wallet rather than my redial finger.

Kris will do well–he’s the more homespun boy, and he’s perfect for the idol bobble-head car dummy. And I don’t mean that disrespectfully–this turned out alright, I guess???

DeeJay | 5/21/2009, 1:36 am EST

Looks like the religious wackadoos struck again! Had to turn even AI into a “red state/blue state” affair. They still can’t believe we have a black Prez, either. And it’s so unfair to both Adam AND Kris. C’mon, now…Kris seems like a nice, talented young man but does anyone really see the words “sold out” (or “platinum”) in Kris Allen’s future? Don’t think so. On the other hand, who can’t wait ’til Adam lights ‘em up – on tour, on Broadway, wherever. Just sign me up when he records his first cd and starts his first tour…better get in line for those tix. He’s the real superstar and everyone knows it. Afraid AI’s become another battleground for the “you know who” crowd (Hint: religious right). How sad…….

Xander | 5/21/2009, 1:38 am EST

Although Kris is a talented, charming, and likable musician, let’s not forget who REALLY made this season worth watching. I predict that both will have big things in the future (although Adam’s will be bigger!)

TheInformant | 5/21/2009, 1:39 am EST

Two large “family orieneted” sponsors threatened they’d pull their advertising and support for the show in the future if an openly gay man won. I’m not going to name the companies but they represent a large number of ad dollars/revenue. American Idol was also being threatened with boycotts from certain “groups” if Adam won. The show was afraid of the backlash and reprucussions. There was no way that Adam was going to be named the 2009 American Idol. No way.

Captain Zoots | 5/21/2009, 1:41 am EST

Kris Allen for the Win! Lambert will be big on Broadway, Allen could be Jack Johnson Big. It’s a Win Win, Cept the fact that Lambert fans are whiney bitches.

ADAM's Fan's from ASIA | 5/21/2009, 1:41 am EST

CONGRATULATIONS, AMERICA!
Just shows the tweens of America are no better than their elders who voted BUSH twice. While that caused America to be the laughing stock of the world, this shows its ignorance.
The WINNERS are votes of HATE, votes to spite, votes to bring down the deserving, votes against talent, votes of ignorance, votes of homophobia, votes of prejudice, bias and bigotry.
Add votes of alienation due to AI judges, Katy Perry, EW Cover and bigoted fans.
Though the judges’ praise of ADAM is deserving, it backlashed.
They should have taken into consideration the feelings of other fans.
Hell hath no fury like fans scorned.
This is a number competition. It doesn’t necessarily mean Kris has more fans. Fans of other contestants simply voted against ADAM. What’s overwhelming are votes of HATE.
Congrats Tweens! Congrats Danny’s fans! Congrats Vote For The WORST – you won.
This is NOT a singing competition, NOT of talent, NOT of the best, NOT of popularity why ADAM is robbed BIG TIME of being acknowledge for his genius.
No matter, he is on his way to SUPERSTARDOM. The world is waiting for him.
If only the international fans could vote, this travesty will not happen.
This AI 8 Season is hate and bigotry votes against ADAM.
ADAM is too big for AI. He is The WORLD’S IDOL.
GO ADAM!!!

Jim | 5/21/2009, 1:42 am EST

Adam peaked mid-season with Mad World. Kris peaked with Ain’t no Sunshine. Last year Archuleta was the best mid-season, by the end Cook was rocking. Why does America think rock n roll is the only genre? Kris made almost 100 million phone calls for himself..leave before he sings last song as protest? Grow up.

Michael | 5/21/2009, 1:51 am EST

I barely watched any of this season. Enough to know that this Kris guy was a snooze-fest headliner. Tuned in tonight to see who wins, because I like to know what’s going on in pop culture – and hate snooze-fest headliners so wanted…no, needed Adam to win. To make sure the earth’s still turning, that things make sense. Boy! Boy! American Idol eh? This guy can’t sell records…are they crazy? He’s about as generic as can be. More boring than Jordin Sparks…more boring than Diana Degarmo. Whatever. It’s not like I buy these records. I literally have no friends so these are the things that keep me busy! Talking about crap I don’t even like!

Adamfan | 5/21/2009, 1:53 am EST

Does anyone know how and where we can reach Adam, email or otherwise, to let him know how much we appreciate him and his once in a lifetime talent?

bethwhatcanido | 5/21/2009, 1:56 am EST

I did notice Brian May eyeing Adam, that to me was intense… a rock legend recognizing an upcoming legend!!
I’m gonna have to watch this show over to see what cbl saw!
“cindyleeberryhill | 5/21/2009, 12:24 am EST
Did you notice that the real rock gods each shot Adam a “you the man” ? Santana reached over and shook Adams hand in the middle of Santana solo and guitarist from Queen could hardly look at anyone but Adam and mouthed “you the man” after that song.
Rock and Roll knows they’re own kin. Adam is a true rock icon….I look forward to the ride. clb”

Greatness certainly recognizes one of their own… it’s gonna be one hell of a good ride.. im gonna enjoy it… rock on Adam!

PR Pro | 5/21/2009, 2:04 am EST

As a Public Relations executive, I think it will be very interesting to see how American Idol “spins” this. What do you do when your Star isn’t your Winner? How do you promote a concert tour where the warm-up act outshines and outperforms your headliner? How do you handle the release of a loser’s CD that’s more anticipated than the winners? They’ve got a real mess on their hands!

Adamfan | 5/21/2009, 2:09 am EST

Copied from DEEDEE | 5/15/2009, 9:43 pm EST – Could not have said it better.

I’ve always wondered what would happen if young, undiscovered Elvis Presley were a contestant on American Idol.
Would Fox just shut down the season after a week or two? Would the other contestants simply give up, acknowledging that no one could compete with a performer so extraordinary?

Now I know: The season would continue as planned.
I know because something similar happened this year with Adam Lambert.
Week after week, Lambert has towered over his fellow singers the way Elvis towered over normal entertainers in the 1950s. While the likes of Danny Gokey and Kris Allen turned in regular American Idol-style performances — sometimes competent, always earnest, never surprising —
Lambert amused himself by reducing us to quivering wrecks.
One week he liquefied our hearts with a delicate ballad; the next he fried our nerve endings with an incandescent rocker. He’s insanely sexy and charismatic when the music starts, sweet and humble when it stops.
He employs an upper register with no apparent ceiling. In addition, he has Elvis’ once-in-a-century gift for implying a good-humored wink even while blowing an audience away.
Still, the season continued as planned.
So here we have the American Idol finale, and never has it seemed so irrelevant. Winners, losers — who cares as long as Adam Lambert has arrived?
To put things in perspective: Young Elvis Presley lost the talent competition at the Mississippi State Fair.

Zeppelin | 5/21/2009, 2:44 am EST

Have you ever seen a winner NOT want to win? That was Kris, that was hilarious. he looked like he literally didn’t want to win!

I think one reason why is because he didn’t want a backlash of Adam supporters

Kris Allen BLOWS | 5/21/2009, 2:45 am EST

I’m never watching this show again. This just proved that American Idol is not about singing, it’s about popularity. All the teeny bopper preps voted for Kris based on thinking he is “cute”. Clearly, the fact that Adam is vocally superior by a clear mile, has his own style and originality, (unlike Kris, who wears a plain t-shirt and blue jeans on the show week after week)and is a much more seasoned and entertaining performer did not matter one bit. American Idol is a joke. But, the reason Adam will go further than Kris, in the same way Chris Daughtry has been more successful than past Idol winners, is because the people that voted for Adam did so because they recognize true talent and support musicians that they like. All these teeny boppers don’t give a crap what Kris Allen sounds like, they just care about what he looks like. And I guarentee you 99% of the idiots that voted for Kris won’t buy his album, because they simply don’t care whether or not he can sing. Adam Lambert wins.

Steve | 5/21/2009, 2:48 am EST

I felt Taylor Hicks was great singing covers but his voice, style, and look wouldn’t translate well with original material to masses.

I thought Bo Bice was an opportunity, but only if his first album was created in a very specific way, which would be very difficult to achieve.

Adam Lambert has shown that you can give him ANY material (even a crappy Kara song) and make something good out of it, so I’m confident Adam “the artist” will shine through and won’t suffer the usual American Idol syndrome of putting out at least 2 crappy CD’s before “they” figure out the artist.

adam isn’t a puppet, he is the creative force behind his stuff so it’ll come through

Steve | 5/21/2009, 2:51 am EST

Is it just me or do you get the feeling that music stars almost universally are excited about Adam Lambert?

do you remember any Idol getting this kind of support? I think the music industry looks at Adam Lambert as a star in the making rather than a reality show contestant.

I think the industry will be genuinely excited when he debuts and if his first single knocks us out like his performances on the show, then he’s going to be one of the biggest stars in music.

Adamfan | 5/21/2009, 3:00 am EST

Voting BS | 5/21/2009, 3:19 am EST

What is it with America and voting? Didn’t Gore vs. Bush from 2000 teach us anything? I feel a little bad for Kris…not like he voted for himself…hell even HE knows and admits Adam is the winner.

So let the conspiracy theories begin…Religious right, producers fixing.

The great thing is that if this was a Christ ploy, those who voted are going to rot in a hell of their own making.

WWJD? He would have voted for Adam!

ET | 5/21/2009, 3:22 am EST

As a musician I have to say that there is no question AT ALL that Adam is by far THE absolute best singer/musician/performer I have EVER seen on American Idol.

He makes it look easy-but what he does is actually the result of YEARS of hard work, years of learning, musically, dramatically, technically.

It is not at ALL easy, and his apparent ease is due to having worked it all out so well that it looks effortless.

He songs are like little stories, with beginning middle and end that make sense emotionally-which is by design.

That it seems so powerful and free is only because of this design, understanding and mastery over what he is doing.

Even though Kris is a nice guy, and sounds okay, he just is not even close to this level.

Even though the sounds are different, I would compare Adam to Celine Dion. She has this vocal control and well designed aspect to her work. And yet it is beautiful, powerful and moving. Not by accident or by just ‘putting your feelings into it.’ Dramatic too.

These singers do make choices all the time-it’s just that Kris’ degree of choice, in awareness, and ability, are far more limited, and he is just not nearly as aware or sophisticated musically or dramtically. In a different league, that’s all.

And truthfully the truly ‘good’ ones are far and between. Most of us are far below that kind of place. Which is okay.

But what a disappointment to see the best guy lose.

Can’t help but believe that prejudice about his sexual orientation played a role-America has a long way to go, but I have to believe we’ll get there.

From ET

adam fan | 5/21/2009, 3:37 am EST

I’m no longer watching AI they choose the worst singer in the top 12. Adam should have won or allison even gokey!!!

Nick | 5/21/2009, 3:40 am EST

I find it ironic that all those Adam support is coming after he loses, there was a lot of “I would much rather have Kris win” for the last week or so.

Clearly Adam should have won, but Teenage Girls and Religious nutcases thought it would be a better idea to vote for a generic singer over a flamboyant homosexual stage performer.

It’s like picking James Taylor in singing competition over Freddie Mercury. It just makes no sense. It’s just as much the blame of idiotic tweener girls as everyone else, what a horrible choice.

This show is OVA! I’ll enjoy Kris’s music when I’m on an elevator or watching a 15 second Levi’s jeans advertisement otherwise I’m not buying crap from him. Lame choice.

Adamfan | 5/21/2009, 3:41 am EST

Adam Lambert’s tracks will be downloaded by the millions worldwide to IPods and enjoyed anywhere, anytime. Go Adam!

As a long-time rock fan, Plant, Gillam, Marriott, BOWIE on my turntable kinda rock fan, I am ONLY interested in what will happen with Adam now. I don’t need him to be the title holder and could care less about what underwhelming stuff the “winner” will turn out.

He definitely carried the show and the classic tunes with pinache. Brian May looked happy to be playing with him. That was very cool to see.

Thank you for your articles. Love what you have to say.

Adamfan | 5/21/2009, 3:57 am EST

The American Idol tour can redeem itself.
AI will build a fancy throne with a BIG #1 on it. Place it high up and center stage. Put cute and nice Kris Allen on it.
Then let Adam perform and mesmerize the audiences with his magic, while Kris is looking down with a benevolent smile.

brin | 5/21/2009, 4:03 am EST

This whole show has become nothing but the butt of a joke at this point. Allen seems like a nice guy but man that Queen song pretty much showed who the real star was and who the back up singer was. I wish Adam Lamberta wonderful career which I will follow with great excitement, the rest of the show can drown in the sinking ship that is American Idol.

truth | 5/21/2009, 4:11 am EST

Of course Kris won, not based on his singing ability but rather because he makes little tweens vaginas tickle… simple as that

Bups Jones | 5/21/2009, 4:12 am EST

Hope you are over your shock of Kris winning. Let me ask you, have you ever watched the show, I mean really? Any of the past 7 seasons? Let’s brake it down and you will understand why Kris won. Season 1, who was the one with more experience and professional talent, Justin. Who won, Kelly. Season 3, Diane again with more professional experience and who won? Fantasia. Season 5, Taylor over Kat, last year, David Cook over Archuletta. America votes for a good story and an unknown talent. Not someone that has professional singing/performing experience and has had their chance in other aspects of the music industry, or is a young prodigy that will have years to become great, like Allison this season, who I think will be the true star of this group. Adam is a talent, but he has been paid to perform in cabarets, musicals and some other things they probably do not want us to know about. Kris is the guy next door who has a superb talent and was the unknown. This program is about discovering the best talent, not having people try out that have been on the big stage already, even if they are not household names. And newsflash, there is a reason that Adam was not a household name already if he had this amazing voice…shhhhhhh, he’s really not all that great. Saying he sounds great with Kiss or singing an Aerosmith song, I mean really? You know they have made music since 1980, really good music, too. He proved that after singing his final song on Tuesday, he was as you would think “mortal.” For the first time all season he was not able to steal someone else’s You Tube performance and pawn it off as his own. Kris had this season won 3 weeks ago because he is talented and America liked his story. Not the dark horse, not the underdog, just the good guy who more people wanted to see win.

Amanda | 5/21/2009, 4:14 am EST

Uh, well, THAT SUCKED!!! Adam should have one, hands down. What a shame. I’m embarrassed to be American right now. I wanted Adam to represent. Ugh. I heard Arkansas voted 38 million strong for Kris. Let’s just rename the show ARKANSAS IDOL!!!

Adamfan | 5/21/2009, 4:23 am EST

- Simon Cowell (the best judge)looked digusted when they announced the ‘winner’.
He has already hinted at wanting to leave the show.
- Almost nobody likes the new judge Kara.
- Randy only knows 5 sentences.
- Paula is Paula.
With this result debacle, American Idol might as well pack up and leave. FOR GOOD.

EViL | 5/21/2009, 4:47 am EST

I can’t say that I’m surprised because after all, lets not forget this is Rupert Murdoch and his FOX Network who ultimately decides who will represent their flagship TV show. AI, after this blatant fiasco is toast. Stick a fork in em.

Rob | 5/21/2009, 4:53 am EST

Almost everyone I know voted for Adam. I have friends in several states and except for 1 or 2 everyone I knew (and their friends from what they told me) voted for Adam.

So how did Chris win?

This was surely rigged. Or an American Idol ploy to make sure people create a controversy so that it gets more popular and they make bigger bucks. I’ll never buy a Kris Allen record, he’s so average and boring.

Laine | 5/21/2009, 4:55 am EST

The announcement of Kris was the biggest buzzkill comedown ever to an otherwise rocking AI finale. Adam’s the star no doubt. No one I talk to even knows who the other guy is. His home state just grabbed it for him by putting in 39 million votes. Must be nothing else to do there.

AdamRocks | 5/21/2009, 5:08 am EST

Adam deserved to win. The anti-gay bigots voted in force AGAINST Adam not for Kris. Adam is an amazing singer, performer and personality. I’ve already bought his songs that he performed on Idol on iTunes and will buy more in the future.

Adam’s duet with KISS was classic! Best moment ever on Idol.

Stephanie | 5/21/2009, 5:41 am EST

ARKANSAS DECIDED AMERICAN IDOL!!!!
There are multiple credible reports saying that AT&T confirmed that 38 Million American Idol votes came in from Arkansas Tuesday night. If about 100 Milion votes total were cast, that means Kris Allen’s home state of Arkansas cast more than 1/3 of the total votes. Every major national poll on Tuesday showed Adam favored by 55-60% and on Wednesday every major national poll is showing that 60-70% of people do not agree with the results. One state does not represent America. This is just so wrong!

Mike | 5/21/2009, 6:20 am EST

American Idol is sometimes FIXED. I think it was fixed in Season 2, when Ruben Studdard won over a more talented Clay Aiken. Why? Because the execs thought Studdard would sell more CDs than Aiken—as if he was the new Luther. Turns out they were wrong.

As others have said, it’s best for Lambert that he DIDN’T win. Male Idol winners haven’t done well, historically. He will have more rock and roll cred by not being the winner.

I’m sure producers and songwriters all over the country are wanting to work with Adam. He’ll do fine, if he makes the right choices.

Siryn | 5/21/2009, 6:24 am EST

How can anyone who is not stone deaf think Kris (on his best day) sounds better than Adam (on his worst day!) On quite a few songs (including that original one no boundaries) it’s at best, a chore to listen to Kris squeak & screech through a song and sometimes it becomes absolutely painful!! I’ve just come to the conclusion that the vast majority of americans must be tone deaf and just don’t hear those clunkers than some of the idol contestants (Matt & Kris are surely the 2 biggest offenders!) hit on a regular basis! I guess listening to no music just bass turned as high as it will go in a closed car is fast giving us a generation of young adults going deaf early! LOL And no, I’m not some old fogey who hates that rock n roll! LOL I work in the medical field and speak fact! The human ear is not built to process sounds at the decibel level of alot of the bass that guys play in their cars. Some of them test at a higher decibel level than jets! In simple terms, we have tiny “hairs” within our ear canals and any sound makes them vibrate which is how we pick up those sounds. The louder the sounds the harder and faster the “hairs” vibrate until they finally just break. And to the future dismay of those guys who think they look so cool with their entire cars vibrating so hard they sound like they’re just going to fall apart, they’re going to realize in a few years that they’re going to have to play everything louder than they do now just to be able to hear any sound! I think we should all buy stock in Beltone! LOL Now won’t those guys look even cooler with their bass louder and that Beltone sticking out of their ears?? haha
Doesn’t songs with beautiful, heartfelt lyrics accompanied by many different complimentary instruments (in addition to bass) stir anyone’s heart, soul, or imagination anymore?
The finale is just so disappointing! I just don’t agree that he deserved to win when there were many others with much more talent and versatility than he has. Out of all the top finalists, I thought Kris and Matt were at the very bottom of the barrel. Oh well…..at least no one can force me to buy his records or prevent me from changing the radio when he’s on! LOL
Congrads to all who voted for him.

Kris is a talented guy…was he the most talented??? NO! BUT, this is not a bad thing. Kris needs the American Idol Umbrella to guide him so congrats to him. This “loss” for Adam is a blessing. He can do what he wants, the way he wants & will bring rock back into the mainstream. This is an exciting “loss” for the world of music!!! So excited Adam didnt win!

Peter | 5/21/2009, 7:07 am EST

What a joke. Kris is mediocre in every way, and Adam supremely talented, skilled and entertaining.

Peter | 5/21/2009, 7:24 am EST

Looking at comments on several sites, including the official AI one, I see that 9 out of 10 (or more) favor Adam over Kris.

I am not paranoid or cynical enough to think that it is due to foul play, but still wonder why there is such an overwhelming support of Adam online (including on “neutral” sites such as AI and YouTube), and Kris still won.

Any ideas?

Anonymous | 5/21/2009, 7:34 am EST

I will buy EVERYTHING that Adam puts out – PHENOMENAL talent. Kris’s win is an anthem to mediocrity.
I dare to step in the path of greatness, long live Adam Lambert, the GOD of ROCK and all that is GREAT!

alphabetagamma | 5/21/2009, 7:48 am EST

I was devastated when they announced Kris as the winner, as Adam was so clearly the greater singer and performer. Yet I don’t hold it against AI — without AI, I never would have heard Adam! I will continue to watch AI because maybe there will be another awesome contestant in the season to come.

This is definitely a joke….if this show is really a singing contest Adam Lambert would have been the winner by a landslide…obviously people that voted for Kris voted for him for other reasons….I am really disappointed… I have followed American Idol from the first season and by far Adam is the best singer ever to be on American Idol…none of the idols that have gone before are as good and I don’t think we will see one as good any time soon…the Judges got it right Adam is the best. By the way I am not American but every one from my country had Adam to win….even Kris know’s he is not as good as Adam…however i am sure that Adam will get a hugh recording contract from a major recording label and he will be a bigger recording artist than Kris.

adam is superb fan | 5/21/2009, 8:03 am EST

I LOVE YOU ADAM!!! YOU DEFINITELY ROCK!!! No matter how the results show went, you’re still the American Idol in our hearts!!!

elletherose | 5/21/2009, 8:13 am EST

Adam is still my idol. I honestly believe that, after all this Adam will have an AMAZING career, and I going to support him all the way in any way I can from my country. I will buy cds, albums, go to concerts (if he comes to my country). America got it wrong this time around, but I am still so happy for Adam to make it this far. I love him so much! :-)

marlyly | 5/21/2009, 8:21 am EST

Adam’s the real winner of AI 09′ and everyone knows it. He didn’t need to take the crown, he’s had the title since the top 13.

Deb | 5/21/2009, 8:21 am EST

It appears that American Idol has officially jumped the shark. The show has absolutely no credibility now. Kris winning over Adam is like me winning over Mariah Carey. Totally laughable.

Ex Idol Fan | 5/21/2009, 8:24 am EST

I would have to say this is a hollow victory for Kris. He didn’t win because people voted for him; he won because the bigots and homophobes voted against Adam.

Lovelove | 5/21/2009, 8:29 am EST

How many people commenting about how Adam should have won actually watched American Idol all season? And how many actually voted Adam last night? Anytime during the season? Exactly. That why Kris won. Plus everyone was all over Adam to win so Kris supporters came out in full force, successfully. Congrats to him. And to Adam. They both got great exposure from this to start their careers.

Adam - RU ready for megastrdm? | 5/21/2009, 8:29 am EST

We all know Adam will join the likes of McCartney, Bono,Bon Jovi, Jagger et al. That’s all that matters. We can’t wait to see more of his wonderful, wonderful performance. Kris, Danny & Matt are nice guys all although I can’t remember what they did. With Adam, we remember every video, the performance magic and his powerhouse talent.

cumuluscld | 5/21/2009, 8:31 am EST

Wow. Glad I found this blog. It’s been very comforting to read as I try to dry my tears (yes, real tears) and recover from the “Shock and Awe” . . . er, I mean, the “Awe” of the Fantastic Finale Show (AI knows how to put on a show. Adam with Kiss – Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Loved the angel wings, too), and then the SHOCK of said finale results. It is, indeed, a Mad World. Surely, it is the end of life as we know it. Yes, I’m a Lambert fan. He had me at Hello – well, actually, at Ring of Fire. He had caught my eye early on, but after that, I knew he was THE ONE.

I won’t keep repeating what many others have said, like maybe it’s better for him that he didn’t take the top spot, etc., etc. (agreed – don’t like it, but I can definitely see the pros in that). But I do have a few other comments.

Agreed, we shouldn’t be mad at Kris. Maybe we should be mad at Arkansas. How the heck do they get in 38 million votes? Is that true? If so, what kind of speed dial psycho machine are they using? It must be like the Arkansas lady said, they have nothing else to do. So they figured out how to skew the results and throw the contest. Is this even legal? Civil War, Part II anyone? I think we could take ‘em. (Relax, it’s a joke.)

Like many others, I feel like I never want to watch American Idle (I like this new spelling) again. If, and that’s a VERY big IF, I do, it most certainly wouldn’t be the same. And I don’t see any more Adams appearing any time soon. But I will say this – AI gave Adam a great platform on which to show us his amazing, insane talent. We all might have discovered him at some point, I don’t know, but AI really catapulted him to us, nay, the world, like a speeding bullet. It gave him a chance to demonstrate to the world his remarkable and incomparable range, artistry and versatility all in one neat little format of a show. They handed him to us on a silver platter. With that, they accomplished their goal of discovering new talent. Adam auditioned for us in a big way and millions of us gave him the job. At least we tried to. Voting for him was a weekly 2-hr. ritual for me, and I voted, or tried to vote, for 4 straight hrs. on Tues. The lines were so busy that I got in a whole lot fewer votes than usual. And that is with repeated dialing on our AT&T home phone and trying all 3 numbers at various times. Our (Sprint) cell phone would hardly ever get through. I had a fairly good window of opportunity a few times, and it seemed pretty wide open after 11:30 CT. Is it possible that so many of us were trying to vote that the lines just simply jammed up? Maybe I’m just trying to comfort myself with that notion. I kind of like the idea of limiting the number of votes per phone number. It would save me a lot of time, too.

Although Kris was very vocally inferior to Adam (like everyone, even other professionals), I do give him props for some talent in that not only did he have to learn a song vocally each week, he also had to learn/figure out an instrumentation to play. I play piano, in a conservative Midwestern church, mind you, and I thought he did a great job of knowing/memorizing whatever he had to play, too, besides the singing. That’s what helped him to last as long as he did, because if he had to just sing every week, I frankly wouldn’t see him lasting too long (sorry). And I thought this was supposed to be a singing competition. Apparently not. Kris is a real stand-up guy for realizing and saying at the end that Adam deserved to win. I give him HUGE props for that. Thanks, Kris. For that, you really rock. You always did seem like a really nice guy on the show.

And by the way, everybody, us Christians didn’t keep Adam from winning. I’m so tired of reading that. Yawn. I’ve seen a lot of blog posts by Christians who say they were for Adam. So please stop blaming us, everybody. As Christians, we love all of God’s people and we’re not supposed to judge. Except for singing contests – I’m pretty sure we’re OK to judge those. I’m also tired of hearing that the judges were so in the tank for Adam. Well, of course they were!! He’s the best!! They recognized that and they have a right to express their opinions. I think that’s what they’re there for. That’s why they’re called judges. I really think they did a pretty good job of pretending like there was actually a contest going on. And they also tried to give Kris a graceful excuse for singing the coronation song so terribly – “it was too high, it was in the wrong key”. Come on. Are we supposed to believe the song would not have at least been put in the right key for him to sing?

I’m a 56-yr.-old happily married woman (baby boomer), with children a little older than Adam, and with grandchildren to boot. I voted for Adam’s stratospheric singing talent. I thought that’s what this show was about. I will be saving my money to see Adam in his own concert or show, or whatever he does (but not the AI tour) and to buy his CDs.

Thanks, Adam, for all the mesmerizing, fantastical and IMPECCABLE singing, performing and entertainment. I mean, really, THANKS!!! You worked really hard and you REALLY rock!!!! Your talent is, of course, undeniable. I couldn’t wait to see what you would do each week. I will definitely miss that. I love your tender tenor singing – please don’t forget about that part of yourself. The only critique I very hesitatingly would make (yeah, like I’m an expert) is to try to minimize the tongue-thrust just a tad – is that even possible when hitting the high notes? Or maybe the cameras need to not focus on that. Other than that, like Paula said, you’re so A Whole Lotta Perfect!! The ticket is now yours to write. I’ll see you on the flip side. Until then, at least I can see you on the interwebs. Thank God for the interwebs.

trilam | 5/21/2009, 8:33 am EST

Simple. Gokey and Kris are both devout Christians. Gokey gets voted off, and in the final, Gokey’s Christian (anti-Adam) vote puts Kris over the top.
Reminds me of the November 2004 shocker ….

MsWrite | 5/21/2009, 8:34 am EST

I too am absolutely beyond devastated about this sick injustice, but it is done. I feel like what NE Patriots fans must have felt like when they went undefeated, then lost the Super Bowl. Some things I do know: Adam is already signed with 19E. Simon has known for months that he is going to be a star the likes that the world has never seen.

He will not front Queen or KISS or Velvet Revolver, though he might tour with them and have a blast doing it. He will be a solo artist and KILL. He already has quite a lot of original material and the best writers and producers will be lining up to work with him. As Jamie Fox said, “He can go stratospere.” He has already rewewed musical passion for millions. And THANK GOD he doesn’t have to have “No Boundaries” as his first single.

I’ve been saying for weeks that it was going to be so sad for anyone who happens to beat Adam because they will be immediately eclipsed by him. The talk shows will be shunting Kris aside to give Adam more air time and that’s sad. Kris knows this though, he’s been living it since Day 1.

The two obviously adore each other and their bromance is the cutest thing I ever saw (except for that hug with Allison after their duet). Adam is PURE class and exemplary talent. He is so going to own the world!!

austin | 5/21/2009, 8:43 am EST

I don’t even notice kris was there, well, struggling during ‘We Are The Champions’. Brian May still rocks but i wasn’t shock Adam could actually fit in.

Poor Kris, he was so left out.
He is just another oh-so-common singer. blahhhh.

And KISS ROCKS!!
Adam will rock.

mk88 | 5/21/2009, 8:47 am EST

Kris would have been a good American Idol in a season of where Adam does not exist. In fact Kris might even have difficult time because its hard to fly under the radar if the frontrunner is not as amazing as Adam.

Adam is … well Adam. I FLOVE this man. The first time ever to be invested in a AI cheesy fest. First time ever to comment on forums/blogs/articles. I hope he will get to make his album the way he wants – pop, rock, techno, dance?

Its a lifetime commitment for me – I would be following his career as long as he puts out one good music after another. Please release an album and do world tour. Come to Asia.

Radicalman2045 | 5/21/2009, 8:47 am EST

Kris?!?! Don’t we already have a John Mayer? Great, more generic nonsense for us to get tired of immediately. This is why music sales are in the toilet and no one listens to the radio anymore, its BORING!!! I don’t know what kind of record Adam would do but that’s what makes him interesting!

Merle | 5/21/2009, 8:47 am EST

I was having a hard time sleeping last night trying to figure out how Adam lost since everybody I knew were flipping out over him the entire season. Reading all these blogs have helped. Some of you are so funny and it seems Adam is the favorite in 99% of the blogs. Then I read where Arkanas gave Kris 38 million votes and it all made sense. I don’t want to take anything away from Kris but even he knows. I really wish him the best.
I am grateful I was able to see and hear Adam these last months and even more grateful for ITunes. I have downloaded all his songs and videos. Adam is going to be the next great rock star in the world. I agree with Jayrbart, he was amazing with Queen. In fact Adam’s performances last night were the best part of the show and without a doubt the best performances ever on American Idol. Go Adam!

Anonymous | 5/21/2009, 8:58 am EST

Clay ‘lost’ to Ruben due to the ONE measly phone line and 2 hours of voting time each finalist was affored in Season 2 (and 1)-Clay’s, most likely, 80 percent MORE votes than Ruben just couldn’t get through. (Clay’s mother got only 2 votes in–Ruben’s—200! Which line was the busy one???) The very next year AI producers set up 2 phone lines and 4 hours of voting time. This year each finalist had THREE phone lines, ONE text line and FOUR hours of voting time; and still some complained their votes for Adam weren’t going through!! When TWO producers of AI said, on camera, that ‘Clay received 80 percent of the vote every single week he was on’-that doesn’t equal a loss to Ruben. Ruben was good-but boring as a singer and stage presence. There never really was a ‘competition’ between them. Clay made each song HIS own (I know, that’s a cliche)-and even Neil Sedaka stated his ‘Solitaire’ will ‘now be known forever as a Clay Aiken song’. Adam will prove to be the ‘real’ AI8.

Mel P. | 5/21/2009, 9:16 am EST

adam! I wasn’t surprised he didn’t win but i really wanted him to :( him and allison were so cute!

darma | 5/21/2009, 9:18 am EST

The voters who voted for Kris, and you know who you are, Not the genuine supporters, but the small minded ones who voted NOT to support Kris, but to cast a vote against Adam, YOU all should be ashamed of yourselves. What ever platform you stand on, whoever you believe in, this was just cruel. Kris is a sweet guy, but in absolutely NO way does he possess the talent or staying power of Adam. You made a mockery of the show and of both contestants. Kris was embarrassed to win against Adam, even he knew it was a joke. I believe that what goes around comes around, so Watch out, the backlash will be more than even you and all of your phone calls can control!

Dalton | 5/21/2009, 9:22 am EST

You people are retarded. It’s a show. A SHOW with absolutely no bearing on life.

One of you bitches wrote that it was unfair that Arkansas cast so many votes because “one state does not represent America.” Please, please, please people, do not have children.

axegrinder | 5/21/2009, 9:22 am EST

I think Allison should have won

Adam Fan | 5/21/2009, 9:24 am EST

Can we demand a recount. Kris himself knows that Adam deserved to win.
Kris is an ok singer, we will forget about him in about 3 years, hell we already forgot
about David Cook. (That was a joke too). It just goes to show that Americans don’t know talent

Even though Adam did not win American Idol, we will see him 50 years from now. Where will Kris be? Kris who!!!!
Adam will be iconic just like Mick Jagger and Steve Tyler.

I am going on strike has of now I will never, I REPEAT NEVER watch American Idol again. I’m sure Simon
feels that same way. I beat you Simon does not resign his contract and then American Idol
will be Crap. (We can already see that coming after these last two years of Idol.

Adam Fan | 5/21/2009, 9:26 am EST

I would have been less upset if Allison won over Adam, at least she would of deserved to hold that title.

Arkansas? | 5/21/2009, 9:30 am EST

People here are saying Arkansas voted 38 million times. Give me a break, there are only 2.7 million people in the state, and that would mean EVERY man, woman and child would have to vote 14 times, and that just doesn’t make any sense. They were both talented musicians. They both can sing. If you are an Adam supporter, I know you are upset, even the judges were trying their hardest to swing the votes to Adam, and maybe that is one of the reasons he lost. I personally got tired of Paula and her constant adoration of Adam, and Simon all but crowning him the king prematurely. But, I was getting tired of Paula during last season as well.

PARAZAR | 5/21/2009, 9:32 am EST

I’m with you on this one Rob! Only in my case my head was meeting my palms in utter disbelief. Why? Oh, why America? Yet another boy next door, clean cut singer with an ok voice and no stage presence. I would take Adam’s tongue out screech over Kris’ weird crooked mouth wailing any day(or night).

You need to get that boy on your cover!

Callie | 5/21/2009, 9:33 am EST

Whoever keeps saying that Adam will be better off are wrong. He is still OWNED by the Idol franchise for quite a while. Clay had no say in anything with his first several albums. The only good thing for Adam is that he doesn’t have to sing that Kara song.

chickc | 5/21/2009, 9:34 am EST

Conspiracy Theory (and America’s homophobic attitude)

Its fairly easy to understand why Adam Lambert did not win last night.

Remember the movie “Quiz Show”, where it tells the true story of the “Twenty One” quiz show game fixing scandal of the 1950s? Sounds very similar here.

Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Network pushes a very “right-wing” point of view including extreme Christian values. American Idol is on the Fox Network and to have a “possibly” gay eye-lining rocker represent the “values” of America probobly pushed Christian corporate executives at Fox over the edge.

Kris Allen has been working with the worship ministry at his home church, New Life Church in Arkansas, on both the Conway and Little Rock campuses since 2007. He is also involved with Chi Alpha Campus Ministries at the University of Central Arkansas. Danny Gokey is a Christian Music Teacher and a praise and worship leader at both Faith Builders International Ministry locations, in Beloit, WI.

Adam Lambert is Jewish (before “American Idol” he was a rising star on the Jewish stage) and of course the contrversy surrounding his lifestyle outside AI was certainly not considered mainstream Americana.

A sudden “buzz” started a few days ago asking if people thought the gay vs. Christian thing would be an issue and it hit all the conservative radio and TV. Fox News right wing news nut, Bill O’Reilly, did a whole segment on it, saying he had never seen the show or either performer and wondered if such things should matter. His “expert” warned that Middle America hadn’t paid a whole lot of attention but that the last show would draw people to whom it would matter and Christians would band together because of what kind of man Lambert represents. And vote they did, with Gokey and Allen’s Christian fanbase leading the charge.

Its been reported that AT&T says about 38 million (of the 100 million) American Idol votes came from Arkansas last night. Supossedly, most of those came from Kris’ home town of Conway, (but I find it hard to believe that all thoses votes could come from a town with a total population of 50,000). The interesting part is that the news was leaked from local news (FOX16).

Who knows? And better yet, who cares I suppose.

But it certainly felt like Adam was the clear talent winner of this competition.

Seanmhathair | 5/21/2009, 9:34 am EST

I am saddened by the outcome of AI. Having watched AI from the beginning, there is no question that Adam Lambert was the most talented, creative and entertaining artist of the group. From the first show to the last, I tuned in just to see what he would do next. He creativity and talent was unsurmountable ~ how many can say that about Chris? He had several so so performances and certainly should not have won. His own reaction when his name was announced told me that he too didn’t think he should have won. I can’t imagine sitting for two hours in a concert listening to Chris perform ~ boring! Adam, on the other hand, will exciting and dazzling to watch and listen to, and the audience will come away fully satisfied that they had got more than their money’s worth for the evening. Seems to me that Chris will follow in the path of Taylor Hicks, and down the way people will be saying “Chris who?”

Callie | 5/21/2009, 9:40 am EST

And stop blaming the tweens! 90% of my tween daughter’s friends were for Adam. Blame the religious right, homophobia, and possibly Fox for some fine print that allows them to nix a winner who they feel won’t best represent their value system. Rumor was that FOX wouldn’t let Clay win either because they thought (correctly) that he was gay.

Long Live Rock! | 5/21/2009, 9:41 am EST

ADAM, you rock! My husband and I have never watched American Idol before this season, but we thoroughly enjoyed watching you. You are hip, cool and relevent and restore our faith in the music industry. Keep on keepin’ on and let your freak flag fly!

dlvsadam | 5/21/2009, 9:43 am EST

kris sucks. alison was better than him common adam is not dramitic he can rock hes gonna make way more money than kris.adams another steve tyler. i think american idol needs the judges to vote the finale. cuz once again america got it wrong…

spleencat | 5/21/2009, 9:49 am EST

The outcome last night is probably the best possible outcome for both Adam and Kris. Adam did not need this win to solidify his future. He’s a great talent, and now he’s been discovered. Kris is much less the star, so the Idol win probably helps him more. But, more importantly, had Adam won like he was supposed to, there would be no news. It would be no big deal. But, now that there is a controversial outcome, there’s news, and buzz, and blogging, and outrage, and martyrdom. There will be endless discussions about why Adam did not, could not, win. This story will stay in the news cycle for much longer now, and that benefits Adam, and Kris, and, oh yea, American Idol. Of course I would never mean to imply that these things are manipulated.

Dave | 5/21/2009, 10:13 am EST

It is season 2 all over again when people voted against Clay and not FOR Ruben. In the end Clay wiped the floor with Ruben and Adam will do the same to Kris because voting against Adam doesn’t translate into sales for Kris.

Edz | 5/21/2009, 10:18 am EST

The fact that Rolling Stone has given credence to this karaoke contest is disturbing enough, now we’re bringing in conspiracy theories? Give me a break. The same people griping about how Adam should have won are the same people who think Green Day is real punk and the Sex Pistols aren’t. By the way Mr. Murdock isn’t a right wing guy trying to change the outcome of a reality show, he’s the guy pitting both sides together and counting the cash he’s making off both sides. Wake up.

Hey Rolling Stone, instead of hyping the next James Taylor clone or some guy who “rocks” because he screams high and shops at hot topic, why don’t you do a scathing expose on how the music industry is dying despite the fact there are great artist making great music because American’s are too lazy to actually go out and find the music themselves and rely on a weekly show to spoon-feed them what is good music and what isn’t.

pugue | 5/21/2009, 10:24 am EST

Sixty three and bummed out. I caught an early performance of Adam and was hooked. I watched Idol every week to see this most talented man do his thing and be so glad that I had lived so long as to see a new exceptional talent be discovered. WOW! Thank you Adam – you renewed my faith in the music industry. I am thinking about getting an IPOD! just to download your tunes. I went to you tube and saw you kiss another man and was so proud that you were so proud. You are a star and I will support you and buy your albums forever. As for Idol, I’ll never watch it again. Season over. Cancelled! Simon leaves, Paula is in rehab, whatever her name is finds happiness in the auto industry. And poor Randy… what up Dawg! He’ll survive. Unfortunatly so will FOX. But I won’t be watching.

Dave | 5/21/2009, 10:26 am EST

Based even on the Posts Here, Adam by far is the Favorite;
America Had Nothing to do with the outcome;
Exactly; Kris received the sympathy vote? or did he?
OR; Is American Idol in complete charge of everything
and did they LIE to us? …Simply to create Hype and market their show ??
I feel sorry for Kris, Kris Himself said; “NO FRICKIN WAY, ADAM DESERVES THIS”
Psssssssst,
Again everyone, this show isn’t about “who needed to win it”, this show is about Talent. I’m amazed by the sympathy givers! How do you think Kris feels, Kris Himself said that “ADAM Deserves it”, Press Replay/Rewind, let me say it again as Kris said it, “Are you Frick’in kidding, no way, …Adam Deserves This!” America’s vote had Nothing to do with the fact that Kris won. As other’s have mentioned in recent posts on here, American Idol gave the best Props and Costumes to Adam to keep us all entertained, only to create extreme controversy and hype at the end when Adam did not win… Controversy SELLS, this is a SAD SAD world we live in, it’s ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. The larger the controversy, the better the marketing! This is Completely Ridiculous. American Idol has lost me as a viewer. I’d venture to say that AI has lost many viewers and this was a very bad marketing decision.
We all know that Adam did not deserve to ever be in the Bottom 3, but American Idol owns and directs the show and creates the *HYPE. AI placed Adam in the Bottom 3 merely for hype, viewer entertainment and controversy. The only thing American Idol accomplished was to upset and displease the *Majority
of People who watch the show. Last year was a sham and SCAM TOO, David Cook is certainly a good performer however he was Not the best talent, and the Majority of us knows this fact to be true. Good Luck to American Idol, I believe a majority of people will be tuning out! This was absolutely wrong, contrived and Rigged. Let’s stick with what even KRIS Himself said, …NO FRICKIN WAY, ADAM DESERVES THIS.

Jeff | 5/21/2009, 10:32 am EST

I’m sorry, but I’m glad that “Screech” didn’t win… I’m not a fan. Go back to Broadway, Glambert!

Susan | 5/21/2009, 10:33 am EST

I think it is foolish that some people are saying they will never watch American Idol again because Adam lost to Kris! If it weren’t for American Idol, no one would have known who Adam Lambert was, and he would not have a great singing career ahead of him. I thought Adam was great from the beginning and would haven chosen him to win although some of the songs he sang were way over the top with the screaming for me. I really liked his softer side which showed to me what an incredible voice he has. Some of the people who did not get close to winning AI in the past have had fantastic careers like Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry so the winner is not always guaranteed a more brilliant career than others who came in behind them. I began to really like Kris Allen toward the end of the show and think he is quite talented and loved that he played the piano and guitar too. I hope he does well. I have no idea why more votes went to Kris, maybe because the judges had Adam touted to become the winner during the last few weeks which turned people off. I never voted myself. I just loved the show and will continue watching it in seasons to come to hear the incredible voices and artistry the contestants bring to the stage. I also loved Danny Gokey and think he has a good career ahead of him too. So for all you people who have vowed never to watch Idol again because Adam lost, get over it. American Idol made him a star!

Anonymous | 5/21/2009, 10:57 am EST

So what if 38 million votes came from Arkansas. Thats less then half. That means the whole country not just Arkansas likes him. And we voted for Kris because he is a great singer and he is from our state, not because the other guy might be gay. Just get over the fact that Adam didnt win you will live

Are there 38 million people in Arkansas? I’d go to my local coffee house to see Kris, but Adam will be selling out stadiums. He was awesome with KISS. That place was ROCKING!!!!!

dees | 5/21/2009, 11:14 am EST

adam doesn’t need the so-called title ‘american idol’ behind his name. his mission in AI accomplished : he’s now known worldwide.

AI is the one who needs Adam to win. now, as he’s coming 2nd, he need not to be contractually bound with idol, and can have freedom to build his own career.

hope to see you become the best, Adam..

oh, and guys, think this article’s title need to be corrected a bit:
‘Kris Allen beats Adam Lambert on VOTING competition finale’

Ed | 5/21/2009, 11:16 am EST

Sour grapes from sore losers. Kris won, Adam’s still great. Get over it. America already proved it’s not hateful when it voted it’s own national American idol as President of the country.

Ed | 5/21/2009, 11:18 am EST

By the way, until I see an Aboriginal Prime Minister of Australia or a Maori PM of New Zealand, shut the bleep up.

MB | 5/21/2009, 11:24 am EST

It was not fixed and there was no conspiracy. What typically happened was everyone thought Adam was going to win so everyone voted for Chris thinking Adam didnt need there help. Its that simple. America screwed itself on this one. Next time just vote on whos better and youll have a much different outcome.

anon? | 5/21/2009, 11:29 am EST

Wait, so all I have to do to become loved by rolling stone mag fans is to be a failed glam rocker and come in second on a reality show? Get out! Next you’ll be telling me to grow a beard and buy a road bike and then I’ll be able to walk into any hipster bar and have girls all over me. Can I sing other people’s songs to help me get there? Can I compete against another hot guy with the same dreams, same humble attitude, same singing ability, but a little less make up? Really?!?! Can people that will never even buy my pop/alternative/glam album fight about how awesome I am on a RS forum. And can sing that song that everyone knows from Donnie Darko with smoke at my feet? What about KISS? Will kiss be there too?

ROCKNROLLPIMP | 5/21/2009, 12:04 pm EST

haha you ppl crack me up
I’ve never even watched 1 idol episode…my mom is so proud

pearl004 | 5/21/2009, 12:05 pm EST

It’s great that Kris won. He absolutely deserved it as he had the talent. Simply loved his songs, what he stood for and would definitely buy his album.

Sharona | 5/21/2009, 12:09 pm EST

Thank you, Rob Sheffield! I needed that. I’m LMAO. I hardly slept last night after the upset but this morning I’m starting to feel GLAD Adam lost. I think we should change the name of America to Glambertopia.

basser | 5/21/2009, 12:23 pm EST

Sheffield,

Get over it. America voted. Not everyone in America agrees with Rolling Stone staff members all of the time. You guys really are out of touch with all of America, aren’t you? You really thought Adam was deserving? He’s good, but his Mariah Carey/Axl Rose high-pitched wailing got old after the first time he did it on the show. I think it’s great that more people voted for Kris. Heaven forbid a decent Christian man who loves his wife, family and the church be considered in the spotlight these days. Rest assured, Rob, Adam still gets a record deal and maybe even some of Green Day’s (over)exposure in the coming months. Adam is OK, but he’s way too cartoony for my musical tastes. Way to go, Kris!

Dawn | 5/21/2009, 12:23 pm EST

I have never been more pissed off than I was last night…..and I’m still pissed today…..

Adam Lambert is the reason so many people tuned in to Idol this year, and he kept them looking forward to the show each week…..what a devastating end to Idol’s best season ever (because of Adam Lambert)…and how tragic that the crown is accepted by the recipient openly admitting he did not deserve it….we all already knew who the real winner is, and he will go on to prove that in his career that I feel privileged to have witnessed the beginning of…

Adam….you are an amazing talent, and I know I will be seeing you in concert somewhere soon, and I cannot wait to buy your CD’s….

American Idol, this may have been the beginning of your end…..

teegee | 5/21/2009, 12:29 pm EST

The local FOX station here in L.A. interviewed Kris and Adam together this morning. Both guys look exhausted, but happy. Adam doesn’t seem to care that he lost — I think he understands he just needed the AI stage to get his talent noticed. He doesn’t need the AI title at all. In fact, he is probably better off not winning, because now he doesn’t have to worry about how AI’s production company trying to force him into some sort of “package” in order to market him. He’ll have a lot more freedom to record the music he wants to do then he would have if he had won. I hope Adam has a long and successful career. He’s different from most musicians I hear on the radio or see in concert these days.

And if you bother to listen to him, he is a HUGE fan of Kris’ talent. If Adam recognizes Kris’ talent, why is it so hard for so many of Adam’s so-called “fans” to do so? I’m not saying you should buy his CD or go to his concert — but at least recognize that Kris is a talented musician in his own right.

Meanwhile, Kris still seems stunned that he won. And he is a HUGE fan of Adam’s. He said that his favorite moment of last night was getting to duet with Adam and Queen. He recognizes that Adam is already a star. But he also seems more confident now. That was a problem with him early on in this contest — he didn’t seem to fully believe in himself. I think it’s entirely possible that, with this win, he will go on and become a much more confident (and thus less “boring”) performer than he was on the show. He obviously has talent — he’s a good musician and he rearranges songs in an interesting way. No, he’ll never be as edgy or as unique as Adam. But it’s unfair to expect him to be. That doesn’t mean he can’t be very successful. last I looked, John Mayer was selling out concerts and winning awards left and right. Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson are also very successful. It depends on what kind of producers and songwriters Kris works with (or whether he can write good songs himself), but there’s no reason to think Kris can’t have a long, successful career.

I really enjoyed both guys’ performances this season and wish them all the luck in the world. I also hope that they remain friends — it seems like they genuinely like each other. It would be nice if the people whining about Adam being “robed” and putting Kris down as a no talent nice guy would follow the lead of Adam and Kris. The performers are acting with grace and class. Some of their respective fans — not so much!

Katmandu989 | 5/21/2009, 12:54 pm EST

Adam is the only true STAR to emerge from Idol this season, heck probably since Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.

He is far and away the most talented person I’ve ever witnessed on Idol and maybe most of TV since Elvis.

Lets see who outsells whom with AI Itune downloads by crazy margins!!! David Cook made half his money so far just on AI Itunes downloads (I read this recently) so GO ADAM! Hopefully these numbers should be released next week or the next and probably break David Cook’s record of all the songs at one time on Billboard charts, the most downloads, etc.

Best Idol moment EVER – Adam singing “Beth” and then joined by KISS for “Detroit Rock City” and “Rock and Roll All Nite”. That kind of moment is what its all about! I jumped up and down screaming (no, I’m not a teenager, I’m over 40)- best freakin’ cool, surprise of the night…. the season….. of Idol EVER!

Destructo | 5/21/2009, 1:20 pm EST

“I’m sorry, but I’m glad that “Screech” didn’t win… I’m not a fan. Go back to Broadway, Glambert!”

Here here… RollingStone and secular progressive Holly Wood have no clue. There is a reason Idol had to take school children out of school in San Diego to cheer for this guy on “return to home night.” If I ever have to liste to his god awful screetch again, I will go insane. Go back to signing show tunes.

Jussie | 5/21/2009, 1:22 pm EST

Great post. You nailed it. Adam Lambert held his own on stage with Queen and Kiss. During the Queen number I barely noticed that Kris was involved because I was too busy enjoying Adam’s Freddy Mercury moment.

How wild is it that the finale only served to enhance the injustice that the wrong man was crowned Idol last night? Viewers knew it. Kris knew it. And now sadly it’s a burden he’ll always have to live with.

ltr08 | 5/21/2009, 1:45 pm EST

Adam will be just fine…
He may even be better off…he got plenty of attention for his career and this is just the beginning for him…one of my fav old time singers Tony Bennet was second to Rosemary Clooney in a similar contest many years ago…did nto hurt his career in the least…this will not hurt Adam either…

ET | 5/21/2009, 2:19 pm EST

I’d have to say that Adam is a far better musician/performer than anyone I’ve ever seen on Idol, but also far far better than so many ‘pop’ ‘artists’ (by the way this thing of calling so many of these people ‘artists’ is pretty much a joke-let’s see, Beethoven, Bach, Monet, Picasso…oh yeah, BRITANY SPEARS???

As a person with degree in music, I know very well that it is far from talent alone or some kind of magic that makes people ‘good’. He has worked out his technique over years and years of performing, EVERY single performance is carefully thought out and planned, he is like the ballet dancer who is so good that she doesn’t need to THINK about the steps so much anymore.

Reminds me of Celine Dione. The entire thing is structured, from his shaping each phrase to the overall shape of the song.

Also he’s generous-notice how he and Kris blended, and how he didn’t overpower Kiss etc. He is enough of a musician to not only have the ability to tone it down, blend, or go ‘over the top’, but knows when to do what. I think it’s a lot of experience going on here.

I think they are both really nice guys. It was great to see them this morning, Adam looked genuinly happy for Kris, they both handled all this really well. Nice to see.

By the way, what he does vocally is HARD, not easy at all. But his flamboyance and style, along with personality and acting abilities make for a really good performance.

Want to see the difference, just compare different singers or musical theater performers doing the same song….

Lots of fun too cause he throws in all kinds of stuff from the past. Good stuff.

He’s the only reason I even watched this season.

Take another example, Frank Sinatra, like his style or not, did TRULY difficult things, and it sounded so easy.

Same with Jazz singers. Now I could say that many Jazz musicians actually ARE artists……

IdolRocks | 5/21/2009, 2:33 pm EST

Yes!!! Kris won. It’s so good to see that FINALLY the results were fair. Adam and his annoying screaming need to go back to the 80’s when Kiss used to be more than just face painted clowns with beer bellies. Kris is more of a contemporary artist and not show out of a Broadway show. The best part of it is that now you, Rob, had to eat all your comments filled with sarcasm and hatred. I still don’t get how you get to write this blog. Also, I was glad for the great performance of Danny Gokey. YES!!!!

dlt | 5/21/2009, 4:30 pm EST

Rob Sheffield is Lester Bang’s offspring

Slidell Senior | 5/21/2009, 4:58 pm EST

I have consistently watched AI this season. From the beginning I knew that Adam and Danny were the stars. I never gave Chris any consideration. I voted as much and as often as I could for my picks. I was shocked last night when Chris won over Adam. Chris is a nice wholesome guy but he is definitely NOT the singer that Adam is. Adam is in a league of his own and will be a big star soon, if not already. Good luck to both guys.

JumpStartMyHeart | 5/21/2009, 5:49 pm EST

I am very disappointed but not surprised at America’s inability to have the guts to stand up for the obvious…. being that ADAM WAS BY FAR THE BEST!! I agree with you PRPro!! Attempting to market a singer like Kris Allen has been done before and will fade away in a couple of months or within a year!! How utterly stupid and a waste of time it was! Adam, you are my fave babe!! I anxiously wait for your first album!! Rock On SUPERSTAR!! Adam Adam Adam Forever!!!! Kris Allen not so much!!!

DoubleOBlonde | 5/21/2009, 9:35 pm EST

American Idol should go home now. Job done–you found the American Idol for America–and in anticipation of America turning up its’ nose at the prize–rewarded the rest of us with the best show I’ve seen on TV in decades. Adam and Kiss, Adam and Queen…Cyndi Lauper with Alison…

Well done, thank you for giving us Adam. Now go away. Sheffield will alert us IF there’s ever a reason to tune in again.

Truth | 5/21/2009, 9:52 pm EST

Ok, fact is the VOTES are in, therefore, most people favored Kris. I don’t get how people get so made at the results of democracy voting. If the wrong guy won then I that means his fans didn’t pick up the phone and vote but if they did vote and he still lost than apparently Kris has more fans.

phillip | 5/21/2009, 11:53 pm EST

I can promise everyone that reads this unlike everybody that seems to be posting the same..have directtv check my box.. that \american idol will never, i mean fricking never, be tuned into my home. Go screw your self America
Heterosexual white male.

Twister | 5/22/2009, 3:02 am EST

seriously? get over yourselves people, it’s not like the end of the world…personally, i’m glad that screecher didn’t win because i won’t be buying his album anytime soon…as for kris winning, america voted, it’s not like they can do anything about it…quit whining and accept the fact that he won…and for bringing in david cook into the situation, seriously? he was way better than david a. last year…yeah, archie could sing the phonebook, but only in one way, cook however could sing it in ways you could never imagine. ha! shame on you people…adam will never outsell david cook, get your heads out of the glambert’s butt and smell the mud you people dug yourselves into, hahahahaha!

Troy | 5/22/2009, 11:57 am EST

Poor Kris….. I hope he does not Google himself to see how disgusted everyone is that he one. The better singer was Adam or Allison! Too bad America has no taste. It doesn’t matter though, they will sell more albums that what’s his name…Kris!

Millaray | 5/22/2009, 3:57 pm EST

Kris won, it’s Ok, he is a veryy good singer, very nice. But an Idol? never! Adam is so better than Kris. And you are right, in “We are the champions” moment… Kris disappear over Adam’s voice and stage presence, was so fantastic. Kris is the typical american singer… so common, so boring zzzzzzzz… Oh! sorry. And Adam, the contestant ever in American Idol… I’m so angry, but now I’m really happy for Adam, he es free like a bird, a few AI concerts and then…. his owns albums YEAH!! Adam rocks!! In the world outside US, we are Adam’s fans: Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australia… and we wait for him… US rejects Adam! No problem, US can keep Kris, is totally OK, keep you pretty face boy. Outside US, we know aprecciate the true star, our WORLD IDOL! Adam Lambert!!

Delo | 5/22/2009, 9:04 pm EST

This is the best recap of the finale I’ve read post-show! Love your play-by-play comments that made me laugh out loud! I’ve been an Adam fan since I tuned in mid-show for his “Ring of Fire” rendition while flipping channels..had decided not to watch this season AI but after seeing Adam, I was mesmerized and looked forward to his performances each week. Loved Allison also! Adam is a star and will be a big success no matter what.

silvia | 5/22/2009, 10:16 pm EST

Well I think this:
Kris= simple singer, bored, one more of the list.
Adam=autentic,unforgett able , a great showman.
You can like or not to Adan Lamabert, but if you see him one time you´ll never forget his face and his talent.

Bourbon | 5/22/2009, 11:18 pm EST

I am really tired of being called homophobic and christian – neither of which pertains to me at all. All I did was vote for Kris who I thought was the better singer/arranger of the two and now I am being labeled with all these odd ball stereotypical titles. Please – just recognize. Not everyone was into Adam. You know my grandmother hated everyone on the show, when she heard any singing she’d say ‘turn that noise off’ – it didn’t matter who was singing. She prefers Bach. So you know, everyone has different tastes in MUSIC – yes in MUSIC. And many of us did not vote against Adam for any reason other than we liked a different singers style better overall.

Samanatha | 5/23/2009, 6:58 pm EST

Kris Allen demonstrated his artistry and musicianship and talent when he made these songs his own:
“Aint No Sunshine,” “Heartless,”
“To Make You Feel My Love,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” and who didnt think he was the hottest, on the duet with country superstar, Keith Urban ala “I Want to Kiss a Girl?” American Idol is NOT the “throat olympics,” and Kris delivers a dreamy, and sincere lyric. Kris Allen won American Idol because he exemplifies the AMERICAN DREAM without extreme makeup, costumes, props, smoke and fire.

Anonymous | 5/26/2009, 7:01 am EST

Im never watching idol again! When kris name was announced I couldnt even look and turned the TV straight off. Ive read about the lines been jammed in California….i bet that was the case! Recount!!!!

max | 5/26/2009, 7:05 am EST

Kris is not even as good as Danny. His boring as shit!

Kittycomere | 6/1/2009, 8:25 pm EST

Thank you, that was the best momrnt-by-moment! I hate America! What is the rest of the World thinking right now, when we crown medicority with the AI crown? They’re laughing at us. What, bakclash against a black president? a gay American Idol too? Not in my back yard! American Idol will take a big slam dunk next year when no one, I mean no one, will watch let alone give them any legitimacy in the music World. Adam forever spoiled American Idol! The finale should be renamed “The Adam Lambert Show”!

terie D. | 6/27/2009, 5:59 pm EST

Don’t cry for ADAM……….he DID exactly what HE wanted to do. YES!! HE SHOULD HAVE WON!! HE IS THE BEST!! But at the outset, he told Simon he wanted to take well-know music give it a twist & make it CURRENT!! HE also wanted to stay on IDOL as long as possible…..HE did that too. But the COVER of ROLLING STONE & EW….I think those were bonuses he DIDN’T count on as well as an RCA recording contract. AND………he is GENUINELY HAPPY for KRIS. Those guys REALLY LIKE EACH OTHER ……. AND I LOVE THEM BOTH!!!!!
