Is Lambert a Lock? Five Ways Adam Could Lose “American Idol”

5/19/09, 7:53 am EST

Photo:FOX

Adam Lambert and Kris Allen’s final performances as American Idol contestants are only hours away, and the debate over who will win one of the most exciting contests in the show’s eight-year history is still raging. The pair will perform three songs apiece: a personal pick (their favorite from the season), show creator Simon Fuller’s selection and the coronation song. Then Black Eyed Peas, Santana, Carrie Underwood and more will join the show for Idol’s star-studded finale.

Lambert, the glam-rock sex god who single-handedly saved Idol, as our Rob Sheffield writes, is still the favorite — or at least the favorite of stars like Katy Perry, who wore a cape emblazoned with his name on the show. While there’s been plenty of discussion over the politics of the vote — who will pick up Danny Gokey’s supporters? Whose fans will use more dialing tricks? Will conversation about Lambert’s sexuality come into play? — ultimately the singers make and break their own fates onstage. So what could Lambert do now to blow the victory?

(Check out Lambert in all his leather and spandex glory.)

Play not to lose, rather than for the win: Lambert’s best performances have been his most controversial — like his Middle Eastern yowl on Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” — so dialing it down may seem like a wise way to appeal to more voters, but it would dampen his artistic essence and risk failing his main fanbase.

Lose his upbeat demeanor: While Kris Allen shows his disagreement with the judges in smirks and head shakes, Lambert has combated negative critique with grins and spin (It sounds like Rocky Horror? I love Rocky Horror!). A personality shift this late in the game could turn off Lambert supporters drawn to his sunny personality.

Try to co-opt Kris’ bread and butter: If Simon Fuller’s selection or the coronation song put the pair in similar musical waters, Lambert should steer clear of Kris’ patented territory — an acoustic guitar at this stage of the game is pure Allen.

Go too theatrical: The biggest criticism lobbed at Lambert this season has been that his voice is too Broadway. Since the coronation song is schmaltzy by nature (”This Is My Now,” anyone?), Adam would be wise to give it more edge rather than drama and risk drawing a familiar — and on Idol, a damning — critique.

Let Kris Allen become the new David Cook: Randy Jackson compared Adam’s voice to Steven Tyler’s during an early round of competition, so it seemed inevitable Lambert would cover an Aerosmith song. But last week’s “Cryin’” was safe and too faithful to the original, while Kris Allen took a risk with Kanye West’s “Heartless.” Cook won America’s vote with his unconventional arrangements, and Allen could swoop in with the same tactic should Adam play it safe.

Tune in to Rock Daily tonight and tomorrow as Rob Sheffield live blogs the last two Idol episodes of the season.

If Adam was smart, he would purposely take a dive, and come in 2nd.

The winner gets stuck with a crappy contract, where you basically must do and record whatever junk they tell you to.

Coming in as the runner up, you are free to sign a contract independently, and get a much better deal.

Jim McCabe | 5/19/2009, 8:22 am EST

Who gives a flying shit? American Idle sucks!

Jae | 5/19/2009, 8:28 am EST

Actually, if Adam had wanted to take a dive he should have done it at 4 or 5. Number 2 is as easily 19 E’s “b” as number 1. So he may as well go for it. Adam should be in it to win it at this point or the entire journey has been pointless.

Blond Mom | 5/19/2009, 8:30 am EST

Agree with everything you said.

Adam has already won – with millions of devoted fans, many of whom are not the usual AI fans. He should take chances – that’s the dance of greatness.

However, if Adam DOES NOT win, much of the blame should be on the judges who put Adam in the uncomfortable position of competing with a sweet underdog.

regina | 5/19/2009, 8:34 am EST

ok those reasons that he might lose the crown are kinda silly- cos i doubt he’ll do anything like that!

and whether he wins or not, he will still get a contract from 19 entertainment … so its best if he wins cos he’ll get much better songwriters and songs!

ADAM FTW

simon says | 5/19/2009, 8:38 am EST

It does not matter what slot you finish in. The Idol moguls own you and you are not going to do squat without them lording over you.

OldRocker | 5/19/2009, 8:42 am EST

Agree with Anonymous. Except in rare cases, the loser is the winner on AI. Lambert can be Taylor Hicks or Chris Daughtry. I know which one I’d rather be.

Vee | 5/19/2009, 8:48 am EST

I am so worried that he’s going to lose, not because of the reasons above, but because anyone who voted for Danny Gokey is probably super stiff and therefore would never vote for Adam. I’m pretty sure writers and producers will be lining up to work with him, so it may work out just as well or better if he doesn’t win. But it will be an outrage if he loses.

ohbabyletmebe | 5/19/2009, 8:50 am EST

Jim McCaBRE (that seems a more appropriate name for you) – GET A FREAKIN’ LIFE! You’re FOS!

Dianne | 5/19/2009, 8:54 am EST

If you do a google search for Adam Lambert you get 8.5 million results – do a search for Kris Allen you get 1.5 million. Adam BY FAR has been more downloaded and searched on youtube and itunes. Gee whiz! Who do you think is the idol? If Kris wins the voting system is flawed. Period. Or as the previous writer suggests Adam has a better offer than AI.

Cindy | 5/19/2009, 8:55 am EST

Adam Lambert is over the top, but its not because he is theatrical. Adam’s handsome face and extremely beautiful voice caught my attention, but it was his heart that blew me away.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 9:00 am EST

I don’t think he the runner-up is OBLIGATED to take a 19 Entertainment contract (though its always offered by them.). But the runner up has the right to say no.

First place winner MUST take the deal.

Steve | 5/19/2009, 9:01 am EST

You people all realize this is rigged, right?

Bonnie | 5/19/2009, 9:02 am EST

If Adam doesn’t win, I will never watch AI again! He is the most talented contestant EVER!

Slippy | 5/19/2009, 9:14 am EST

Adam will loose if we don’t vote -don’t assume that’s “in the bag” -REMEMBER BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN -

VOTE ADAM EARLY AND OFTEN

chickc | 5/19/2009, 9:15 am EST

The winner and runner-up of American Idol are both bound to sign recording contracts upon completion of the season, with the winner’s contract worth at least $1 million, and lower-ranking winners are bound to lesser extents to do the same; Simon Fuller’s management company 19 Management at the very least has the right of first refusal, which gives them nearly full control over contestants’ professional careers. So, it probably wouldn’t matter if Adam got offered a better deal, although I think Adam’s potential has probably perked up more than a few record producer’s ears. GO ADAM!

poosie | 5/19/2009, 9:25 am EST

I can not imagine listening to a CD of Adam that has that high pitched scream in EVERY song. He is super talented, but needs to leave that out once in awhile. Go Kris. Danny was the best.

Lisa | 5/19/2009, 9:28 am EST

you said: Jim McCabe | 5/19/2009, 8:22 am EST

Who gives a flying shit? American Idle sucks!

Mr. McCabe,
Then why are you bothering to read the article and take time to write a comment….WITH INCORRECT SPELLINGS…”IDOL” …tool

square | 5/19/2009, 9:33 am EST

All the Gokey voters will vote for Allen, therefore, Allen will win. Sorry Glambert but there are people who don’t want you hear you scream all day. The eighties were a while ago.

Bleeding Ears | 5/19/2009, 9:35 am EST

Adam has peaked and is headed down. His strongest attribute is his scream and he has started sounding and acting like a drag queen. Bye Adam.

terrys | 5/19/2009, 9:37 am EST

Adam should win. he is the penultimate in entertainment. he gives me so much joy- his music consumes my mind. he will be bigger than Elvis.

jturner3 | 5/19/2009, 9:40 am EST

VOTE KRIS!!!! This is suppose to be a singing contest. Kris is original and unique whereas Adam screams too much and all his songs sound alike. He is a rocker for sure and has the “Look” but that’s not talent if that’s the only venue he can sing. He’s 28 years old and has been exposed to the music industry all his life so why hasn’t he made it by now???? Vote for talent not popularity. VOTE KRIS!! If Adam wins, he will be a one CD wonder hit and fade out. There’s only so much screaming a person can take.

Eta | 5/19/2009, 9:41 am EST

Well, It just so happens that Paul Rogers is leaving “Queen”, which means they will need a new Front Singer. I think Adam would fill that slot nicely. He seems to be a perfect fit for that genre. Queen has always had the rock/theater edge that Adam thrives on. Whether or not you like Adam, you have to admit he is Star Quality…Has the stuff Elvis was made of……

Dena Mericle | 5/19/2009, 9:53 am EST

Adam deserves to win! Not since Elvis has someone been so talented with the whole package. And he doesn’t scream. Find the sight on-line where opera people talk about his fantastic range. Whether he wins tomorrow night or not he WILL be the world Idol.

Roughrider | 5/19/2009, 10:11 am EST

They are both popular. They are both very good at entertaining their audience. The only question, repeat, the only question is how big will their audience be. It is not about who has the most talent, it is still a popularity contest by numbers.

Young teen girls are excited abbout Kris Allen, married or not.

Adam, as a Freddie Mercury certainly could be done. I don’t think he wants to do Freddie. I think he is very creative and wants to be himself.

Good luck to both. We all won this year. There was something good for almost all of us.

Who will win? If the teenage texters show up in mass, Kris might just beat Adam. As so many have stated, that may well be a win for Adam.

JRFLLINK | 5/19/2009, 10:11 am EST

I hope that Adam comes out with his clean cut look, with his hair back. The rocker look with black polish ETC works at times and will in his future but tonight he needs the broadest appeal possible – he needs his young Elvis look. Adam has won every week, he has been a ratings bonanza for Idol – he will not be backing down tonight. He should, deserves and will win tonight.

DJohannson | 5/19/2009, 10:14 am EST

Five reasons Lambert WILL win:

1.) He has the best vocals

2.) He has charisma, stage presence

3.) He is theatrical, like Simon said that is who he is

4.) He is liked worldwide there is blogs about him everywhere

5.) People will vote!

Tweets | 5/19/2009, 10:15 am EST

VOTE FOR ADAM LAMBERT

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 10:16 am EST

Adam will be better in concert. Kris will be better on record.

angela | 5/19/2009, 10:16 am EST

Adam is so great – I hope he breaks the Idol mold…….he already has….kris…boring sorry…been there done that…and for those who think Adam “screams” (whatever) – listen to tracks of my tears…beautiful…and his studio versions of all of his songs are great but I am kind of in love with Play that Funky Music…I never liked the song til he sang it…GO ADAM

smitty | 5/19/2009, 10:18 am EST

McCabe if you think it sucks then don’t watch it and as for you jturner3 yes this is a singing contest and if you would just listen you would see that Adam is the best one. He has proven himself since the beginning and is the next American Idol. As for his screaming, wow and what an amazing voice. Adam has been consistent since the beginning, however the last two weeks Kris has done better. I still feel Adam will be the winner but if not then there is something seriously wrong. Like someone said Paul Rogers is leaving Queen and Adam would be a perfect replacement. All you people that talk to much about his screaming don’t know a thing about singing. I love it and I do not feel his goes overboard with it. My votes go to Adam and I will be really shock if Kris wins. Kris will win only because of what people are saying about Adams sexuality and that should have nothing do to with the contest. THIS IS A SINGING CONTEST FOR HECK SAKES AND ADAM HAS IS SEWED UP. GOOOOOD ADAM… THE NEXT WINNER OF AMERICAN IDOL IS………..ADAM LAMBERT 2009 THE BEST EVER ON AMERICAN IDOL.

Rocker210 | 5/19/2009, 10:18 am EST

First of all Kris is not even in the same league as David Cook. Also Adam should win, people will vote. If he doesn’t he will still be fine and internationally known. My vote is still Lambert hands down!

fifi-m | 5/19/2009, 10:20 am EST

19E has first option on a recording contract with ALL TOP 10 contestants. therefore if they, 19E, want to sign you they will -you have no other choice. ONLY if the do not want to sign you will you have an option to negotiate a recording contract elsewhere. They will sign Adam even if he is second, as they are not stupid. He will make way more money that Kris or the others. They will exercise same amount of control over a signed contestant whether 1st or second, so best at least to get the perceived glory of the win.

CMitch | 5/19/2009, 10:27 am EST

Adam Lambert is the best and has captured audiences everywhere. Kris and his contortionist style of singing is so hard to watch, not to mention the fact he is so boring. Sure, he’s a seemingly nice guy, but Adam has his heart in entertaining and it shows. You just can’t flaw the guy and he’s worked really hard to get here and his performances were well worth watching. Who will even remember Kris after this?

cococrisp | 5/19/2009, 10:28 am EST

Kris Allen? please… he could have a thriving career singing with the organ grinder at the county faire. Simon hated that monkey face from day one, and I cant stand to look at it either.

annoymous | 5/19/2009, 10:30 am EST

Adam lambert should defninetly win the competition by a mile.. if he dnt there is no use in having the show next season.. he is THE best idol ever and he should def win.. Chris is no where near him.. there would hav been competition if Danny was there .. Chris is just all looks and not vocals… girls dont vote him for his looks after all he is married… vote Adam as he is THE bets vocalist ever…

CMitch | 5/19/2009, 10:31 am EST

Kris was actually funny trying to dance; he lacks showmanship. Are you still listening to James Taylor or do you pull out Elton John? Big difference. VOTE ADAM!

Marianadam (South Africa) | 5/19/2009, 10:35 am EST

Adam’s voice has an intrinsic beauty that really moves me. He is so gifted, and that smile is an aphrodisiac! He is definitely the most talented contestant ever. PLEASE Adam’s fans in America, cast an extra vote for us living overseas who love him but can’t vote for him. It will be a travesty if he does not win.

Salvador01 | 5/19/2009, 10:35 am EST

My first choice was Allison. Second I favored Danny Gokey he was oozed the blues and seemed nice. That being said, I don’t know what others are doing but my vote goes to Adam, he is clearly the better singer. he lights the stage up kike a firecracker, unlike Kris who tries to be something he is not. Others should be there next to Adam, not Kris. Hopefully will all the votes Adam will come hope the winner. Pull together people and Vote for Lambert, he is the the one who derserves it.

Calvinshobbes | 5/19/2009, 10:38 am EST

Kris is a great singer. I am so happy he is in the Finale. I am hoping he can connect with the audience and win the title. go Kris!

Sam | 5/19/2009, 10:38 am EST

For those who think Adam is just a performer, and not a recording artist: You should check out his STUDIO recordings on You Tube or Itunes, supplied by AI. They are amazing, and not at all like his live performances. They are understated, evocative, and really, really well done. They actually convinced me that he would make a brilliant recording artist. I wasn’t into the last 2/3’s of his live version on “One”, but then listened to the studio version on You Tube, and it was a completely different experience — right up there with Mad World. It was haunting and awesome. Check it out!

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 10:40 am EST

ADAM SHOULD WIN. EVEN KRIS KNOWS IT. THEY ARE FRIENDS. THE KRIS/DANNY FANS ARE THE ONES MAKING THE TROUBLE. SOME EVEN DO ILLEGAL VOTING. JUST KEEP VOTING (LEAGALLY) FOR OUR ADAM AND HE WILL GET THE WIN HE DESERVES

KIERA | 5/19/2009, 10:42 am EST

I have always loved the song ONE by U2. However, its message of unconditional love, understanding and acceptance was never so clear to me as it was last Tuesday when I heard Adam Lamberts jaw-dropping, gut-wrenching version on AI. Adam makes me not only want to be a better person, but also to find ways I can inspire other people too.

Next week during the finale, I pray everyone listens with an open mind and open ears and votes for the most talented performer on that stage. If they do I am sure their vote, like mine will be for Adam Lambert!!!!!!

SunStudioTN | 5/19/2009, 10:44 am EST

Vote Lambert. Kris Allen is boring. Adam Lambert will sell tickets and cd’s longer than Kris. This is a singing contest. For those who are saying Adam screams I am assuming you like artists such as Jonas Brothers, Hanna Montana, Alvin & the Chipmunks etc. and probably like Saturday morning cartoons as well. For those who are open minded and like excellent music like Queen, Kiss, Bowie, Elvis, Axl Rose, amongst other faboulous artists vote Lambert. He is the true rockstar and has true talent not worth losing the title of American Idol. Kris Allen is completely boring. The accoustic thing is old.

Jen | 5/19/2009, 10:47 am EST

Adam deserves to win.
I mean, Kris is good. But his voice is common. I hear them everywhere.

But Adam’s voice is wow.
He’s the american idol for me. GO ADAM!

elvis | 5/19/2009, 10:51 am EST

He is not even close to being in the same category as Elvis. That’s just plain rock and roll blasphemy. Glambert is just an eighties glam rocker. They’re a dime a dozen and outdated. I can’t imagine anyone buying this guy’s CD. Kris is more marketable in today’s pop music.

Cheryl | 5/19/2009, 10:53 am EST

Tonight will be a great night. The only other season (I feel) was almost as good as this was Ruben/Clay. Clay is so talented, and I wish he’d go back on tour. But Adam, what a show that would be. Kris is a handsome, nice boy, with a good voice. He will do well, but Adam should be the Idol, just as Clay should have been. I’m glad Kris and Adam are friends; they both seem so nice.
Please Vote, vote, vote for the one who really deserves it: ADAM

CHRISTINE | 5/19/2009, 10:53 am EST

I-iiiii middle eastern sing songy PUKE. Nice SCREECHING, NOT. Adam RUINED U2’s SONG. Let ALL Danny fans SINK lambert !!!!!!!!!!

HousesofHoly | 5/19/2009, 10:54 am EST

They are both very talented singers. Both totally different styles. Kris is good and seems like a nice kid and I am glad to see him in the final two. Adam however captivates people with his showmanship and his vocal range is truly a god given talent. I think it’s Adam’s time to shine. Good luck to both of them but Adam has had my vote since the beginning. Let’s get him the Idol title Glambert fans, VOTE like crazy!

PhDude | 5/19/2009, 10:54 am EST

Adam is AMAZING! He should win!

johnnyr51 | 5/19/2009, 10:55 am EST

Kris is not a great singer! He is mediocre even by American Idol standards. Common would be more descriptive – not bad, just common like so many other wanna-be c&w singer/guitarplayers.
ADAM on the otherhand is in a world of his own, singing with otherworldly vocal chords and arrangements. Extraordinary vs Common. Leave to America to vote for common.

Cheryl | 5/19/2009, 10:56 am EST

Even Simon and Idol know Adam will be the most marketable. Kris is good, but not great

CHRISTINE | 5/19/2009, 10:56 am EST

ELVIS U R right-on. “That’s just plain rock and roll blasphemy. Glambert is just an eighties glam rocker. They’re a dime a dozen and outdated.” Reminesent of Def Leppard, eh? been there done that

A fan outside the US... | 5/19/2009, 10:57 am EST

I’ve never been as excited as I feel right now for American Idol because I know that it would be the majority of the Americans that would dictate who the winner should be.
But this time is so different, I have been religiously watching AI though I am not able to watch the show live.
But let it be known that the only reason why I am watching it is because of Adam Lambert. The excitement that he exudes during the show makes us feel good and definitely wanting more of Adam.
Unfortunately, it’s only Adam that can really catch our genuine attention.
So I ask all eligible voters to please vote the guy that truly deserves the crown. Not because he is your favourite but because lhe truly deserves to represent American music around the world

CologneUK | 5/19/2009, 10:59 am EST

Hey Elvis poster. Lambert is certainly is the same category as Elvis. He is humble and his pipes are unreal. He has rocked America the very same way as Elvis and same controversy as Elvis and The Beatles. He does have the glam thing going on, in his favor that is, that is why America will vote for him. Kris markets Nickledeon, thats about it!

Clown_r_us | 5/19/2009, 11:00 am EST

The show is defnitely rigged, positively it’s fact it you watch and look closely. People get a grip and understand that. They guide the votes along the way to keep the show in high ratings,it’s fact and I know it for fact. Truth is Adam is the better performer and voice..just what they tell you the show should be all about.

WayOutWest | 5/19/2009, 11:02 am EST

Who wins Idol is really material at this point. Adam Lambert has made his mark – win or lose.

Chris and Adam should team up – in an Idol first – Adam can belt the vocals and Chris can produce and play some guitar. It would certainly beat Simon Fuller going to the vault and picking a song or those lame songs written for the winner.

Both Adam and Chris are talents in their own right, but it does break down to whose record would you buy? I have heard a lot of “Chris-like” singers, but few singers with a knack for arrangement. Adam however is the complete package sans the instrument-playing skills.

And, yeah Adam can tone down those wails a tad. At least he wails in key unlike Danny (best of luck dude) Gokey.

had enough | 5/19/2009, 11:04 am EST

There are so many of us who had enough of Glambert. His rendition of Mad World was indulgent and boring. Also, he should never be allowed to sing another Led Zep song…ever.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 11:04 am EST

Just because Danny’s fans couldn’t get their guy in, there is no reason to bad mouth another contestant. They wouldn’t have been in the top three, if they weren’t all good. How about everyone Vote’s for the best, instead of holding grudges

David Niel | 5/19/2009, 11:05 am EST

5. He’s articulate and self-aware. Just listen to his interviews — and he’s been true to himself.
4. He’s alternative, outside of the mainstream… mainstream kids have, literally, millions of icons of who and how to be. Let’s let the other ones have something for a change.
3. He oozes charisma, which makes him ready for the big time! Wouldn’t it be cool to actually vote in an Idol who made it to the big time, with some staying power, whose concerts we’d go to??? And say… “we helped make that happen…”
2. He deserves to win, based on the fact that he’s turned in amazing PERFORMANCE after performance, most of which were not even in the same league of the other contestants they were so much better.
1. He can sing the phreak out of ANY song he’s handed, and that is truly refreshing and exciting! It’s a singing contest, as the judges have said repeatedly, and not one person has delivered the kind of VOCALS Adam has, time after time, week after week….

SODA | 5/19/2009, 11:05 am EST

The BEST thing that could happen to KRIS will be for ADAM to WIN. ADAM will do GREAT whatever happens, But if KRIS wins, ADAM”S loss will over-shadow his career. Much like the PreJean, whats her name contest. VOTE

PopQueen | 5/19/2009, 11:08 am EST

Hello. Kris will win, but I will vote for Adam. Kris has a huge teenage fans base.

I keep thinking about Adam. I cannot stop thinking about him.

Vote for Adam because of his amazing talent.

By the way, Adam doesn’t scream. Get a music lesson so you’ll know the difference.

finess | 5/19/2009, 11:09 am EST

adam will win!!

Rob | 5/19/2009, 11:10 am EST

Let’s not forget the name of this competion “American Idol”. I would far rather the youth idolizing Kris than Adam. Kris is a much better role model.

Freddie | 5/19/2009, 11:12 am EST

Soda is correct – Adam losing will create more of a buzzz for Adam than for Kris. So …Kris win it all for us Adman Fans!!! You loser wanna be….

Laura | 5/19/2009, 11:13 am EST

Plain and simple…Adam will make American Idol more money than Kris. American Idol will pick Adam as there winner regardless of how many votes. Sorry but its business, that being said, Adam is phenomenal!!! He has more talent in his little black painted pinky than Kris.

cheryl | 5/19/2009, 11:14 am EST

To had enough: Why are you listening to Mad World if you hate it. I guess you know more about music than Simon – was that a standing ovation??

Laura | 5/19/2009, 11:16 am EST

This whole “Kris will make a better role model for kids is BS”. I grew up with KISS, Queen, David Bowie, Alice Cooper….and believe me, I am fine.

Olivia | 5/19/2009, 11:21 am EST

Adam has generated the kind of excitement that only an idol can. He is amazing, beautiful, stunning, unbelievable. When he sings, he can draw you right in as if casting a spell then he smiles, when its over, like an innocent child. I dont know how he does it, dont care. It’s a gift. I’m hooked. What an amazing, unforgettable talent. That’s what idols are made of.

SODA | 5/19/2009, 11:22 am EST

KRIS FANS:

Here is your WIN-WIN: ADAM for the WIn!

AN ADAM LOSS WILL BE KRI’S UNDOING!

MARK MY WORDS!!

PopQueen | 5/19/2009, 11:22 am EST

Just picture Kris as Britney Spears, who doctors her music. The only difference is the guitar and piano. Guitar or not, it is still Briney Spears.

VOTE FOR ADAM.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 11:24 am EST

Kris Allen is not boring.

People who write comments about American Idol on the internet are boring. (myself included.)

rjan | 5/19/2009, 11:24 am EST

Adam, Chris, Danny, and Alison are all better artists than some winners in years past.
But…I tuned in every week to see what Adam would do.
Adam wins hands down.
Time will tell how the careers go.
That will come down to how hard each of them want to work cause they all have great talent.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 11:25 am EST

This competition is about talent, not our kids role model. How many singers/sports figures are role models? Parents/family should be their role model. And you know what maybe the poor lost kids who are gay, instead of being picked on everyday, should see that they have a chance in life too.

Response to CHRISTINE | 5/19/2009, 11:28 am EST

CHRISTINE, You are so dumb! I am sorry that you did not receive enough cultural exposure to understand the GREAT… Shame on you for calling others into negativity. I believe your Danny would not appreciate that.

Troubled | 5/19/2009, 11:28 am EST

None of you are taking in to acount Kris Allen’s amazing musical talent. Kris can play the guitar and the piano. I want Kris to lose just so he doesn’t have to be under the thumb of American Idol like David Cook has been. Kris is the better MUSICIAN.

wd | 5/19/2009, 11:29 am EST

Sorry, but the media are struggling to equate Kris somehow with Adam, in metaphor, in simile, in mythos, in Electoral College terms, in religious imagery, “clean-cut” vs. “glammed”…..
Fuhgeddaboutit .

Don’t work so hard. Adam is better.

And he “made songs his own” before Kris or anybody else on this show. Evidence: Smokey’s own remark about Adam’s “Tracks of My Tears.”
This “Kris as Re-arranger Non-pareil” is complete revisionist BUNK.

JRFLLINK | 5/19/2009, 11:31 am EST

Kris would be the most embarassed by winning (he knows who is first) and worse it could ruin his career opportunities. He wins and his sales will be unfavorably compared to Adam’s, it will start a whole ‘the vote was rigged’ issues, and he would be the idol that wasn’t. Kris would have gladly agreed to taking second at any time through the competition and today he would be most comfortable finishing second without the expectations. Adam was always going for first and will not be satisfied with second. Finishing first would destroy Kris within the first year – he is not ready for the pressure. ALL OF YOU KRIS FANS DO KRIS A FAVOR AND VOTE FOR ADAM.

WayOutWest | 5/19/2009, 11:32 am EST

Re: Role Models – it’s not the duty of every freaking celebrity to be a rold model. I’d be delighted if my nephes and nieces looked up to Lambert. The guy is personable and humble – different, yeah – but he has never lost his respect or appreciation of those (viewers and the AI producers who have placed him in the limelight).

On that note my role models included Jim Morrison, Willie Mays, James Dean, Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol, the Rolling Stones, Teddy Roosevelt, Mickey Mantle, and the fictional James Bond — a motley group indeed, but I turned out OK because we make our own choices no matter who we admire. So…forget the role model crap. Adam and Chris are entertainers.

clamhouse | 5/19/2009, 11:33 am EST

All you folks are not getting it……..ratings ratings ratings.. Weeks ago the choice was made by producers of the show. This is no joke, the show is 100 percent rigged. Not one person should even think otherwise. The show is hand-picked and rigged for $$$$$$$$$. THey know already who is the winner and if they choose to make Kris the winner it IS because the limelight will be cast on Adam. That is how it will be….

ravengirl | 5/19/2009, 11:34 am EST

I agree with the RS article that Adam Lambert dinglehandedly saved American Idol. He is THE ONLY reason I continued to watch the show. He is THE ONLY reason people are talking about the show. He is THE ONLY one who can draw so much commentary, headlines, blogs, websites, iTunes buys, you name it. He is THE ONLY one who should win American Idol. And really, he already has. Even if Kris skates by with a few more votes fueled only by anti-Adam votes and crazy megachurch blindness, AI will have Adam go along to all the media rounds because they know that he is the one people want to see and hear from. Kris is nice enough, but there is no excitement there. Adam is exciting.

MaryM | 5/19/2009, 11:35 am EST

Adam Lambert will win. vote for adam lambert

PopQueen | 5/19/2009, 11:39 am EST

I think Kris is talented, but Adam overshadowed him. Adam is so great that people like me don’t see Kris’ talent.

I am so excited on tonights showdown.

KILL IT ADAM!!!

EXACTLY | 5/19/2009, 11:41 am EST

ADAM SHOULD BE THE IDOL!

DG | 5/19/2009, 11:41 am EST

Wouldn’t it be ironic if cable went out this evening….hmmmm? An we all had to wait till morning……

Gramma2fen | 5/19/2009, 11:46 am EST

I am a 57 year old woman. Yesterday,as a surprise, my husband downloaded all of Adam Lambert ’s songs onto my ipod. I was doing housework to”Ring of Fire,”"Mad World,” etc. I never had so much fun doing housework in my life.Adam lifts my spirits and deserves to be the next American Idol. I for one will buy all his CDs and God willing, see him live in concert. That would be a real thrill for me.

Change | 5/19/2009, 11:47 am EST

Adam Lambert is a mega star. There is something about him. When they are bringing him into the studio or he is being walked past a crowd there is a change in energy – a buzz, it is his prescence, like electricity or something. Kris Allen does not emit that same vibe. What’s more is that you don’t have to be watching American Idol to recognize his voice. The local radio station played Black and White and within seconds I knew that was Adam Lambert. About 2 weeks ago the radio station had played a song by Kris Allen and I didn’t even notice until I heard his name.
Now both of these kids are talented and I’m happy for both of them to get this far. But I honestly think that Allison had a stronger voice than Kris Allen as well as Danny to Kris. But my friends and I have talked and they said it is all due to the fans votes. At this stage of the contest tonight will come to popularity than performance. Which is crazy because each week I tune in only to see WHAT crazy-i-ness Adam Lambert is going to pull. I love this guy! His ability to be Adam is so brave and daring and hey, this is me – Love me or hate me. Could you imagine if everyone put down their guard and let others see who they really were what the world would be like? And I love his hair and wardrobe, it is all a part of him and how he expresses himself. Man, his parents must have been the coolest, free spirited folks to have allowed their son to invent and reinvent himself on stage. They seem so accepting of him and each other and I think that is great. He has been the only reason why I have watched American Idol this year as I haven’t any other year and probably won’t watch it next year. How could they top him?

What I am surprised at is this contest has become surrounded by a religious backlash. Bloggers write about how all the Christian votes of Danny will now go to Kris Allen. Some of the bloggers are even throwing Christians are better than Jews – when did Adam Lambert start bringing up his religion? Never. Adam is a very private man and so far hasn’t really brought us into his family life, not like Kris Allen or Danny. What we know about Adam is he grew up a lot at the MET and did high school plays and then worked the stage to pay for bills. Kris Allen as a missionary has traveled the world, played in 8 different countries, played in bars and on stage for years, has been singing and playing music since he was a little kid. The only difference with these two that I can see is Kris Allen hasn’t played in a musical but as far as exposure they have the same amount of time in this career. Kris Allen has a job as a missionary to fall back on. This is all Adam knows.

Will the Christian vote landslide the winner? Probably from all of my friends who say Adam Lambert should be the winner based on talent. But Arizona has an Army of Lambert fans and we are all rallying tonight. Adam’s Army. Rock the Vote!

Vote for Adam.

Annie | 5/19/2009, 11:57 am EST

All of you hyprocrites out there talking smack against Adam! You “good ol boys from Arkansas” – there are alot of people out there calling you redneck bigots so does this mean people shouldn’t vote for Kris because he is a redneck bigot. Come on people, get back to what American Idol is about – A SINGING COMPETITION – and Adam is the best singer to ever have graced the AI stage. Stop the BS – stop the hyprocrisy – stop the bigotry! You have ruined this show for so many young people who need a good escape from the bad things of this world and all you have done is created more hate! Stop it now before our kids turn into mean hateful people like the bigoted people speaking against Adam!

Green | 5/19/2009, 11:59 am EST

Adam FTW!!!
I know all the things he is up against, but I’m not gonna lose hope!!
Everyone, just vote your fingers off!! It’s gonna be a TIGHT race!!

JTyler | 5/19/2009, 12:02 pm EST

Answer me this. Anyone.

Since when did one memorable performance (Heartless) a week before the f-n finale make you a worthy winner?

alfa | 5/19/2009, 12:02 pm EST

it’s better for Kris not to win. he’s married and 99% of populaties ruined their marriage due to jealousies etc etc. Adam is single. Kris is married and will be on tours a lot. Kris is good looking and will be famous. lots of naughty girls out there..

christen | 5/19/2009, 12:07 pm EST

Adam should win to keep American Idol the number one talent seeking and delivering capital over all, keeping their ratings high..bucks rolling in…

To JTyler | 5/19/2009, 12:10 pm EST

JTyler, you are so right! I hope people see your point. And I also agree with the comments pointing to the fact that at this point Kris wants to be second. He knows who is first and knows that if it goes the other way – it will distroy his career. Elvis came second at the Fairfield tallent show. Do we even know who was first? Please, kris fans, do not bring the same fortune to your favorite. Do him a favor – VOTE ADAM!!! Kris will be happier to be second, rather to be a winner who realy has lost… Think about this…

PopQueen | 5/19/2009, 12:12 pm EST

hahaha. Jtyler. I have been wondering about that too.

VOTE FOR ADAM!!

Jimmy | 5/19/2009, 12:15 pm EST

American Idol its a very entertainment show, just that, no real artists or real talents, so don`t expect too much. peace

sandy h2o | 5/19/2009, 12:20 pm EST

What? Play to win, always! He is already a winner, anyway – no matter what the tweens do. Kris is so funny looking and short! What is the appeal for Kris, anyway? He had ok random songs. Adam has been consistently GREAT!!!

Lambert Loyal Fan | 5/19/2009, 12:20 pm EST

Win or lose, I will be anticipating the release of any CD in which Adam displays his vocal prowles. He has portrayed himself as the constant professional and will have an outstanding career. He has my vote. Loyal Fan!

Delia | 5/19/2009, 12:28 pm EST

Adam is the best and should win – hands down!!!!!!!!!

sandy h2o | 5/19/2009, 12:34 pm EST

GRAMMA2FEN & SENIOR CITIZEN: I love your comments. These kids think we don’t know talent. Our generation invented talent. I read my husband the blog about your husband downloading Adam’s music for you and put the pressure on him to do the same for me. I have 4 phones with 4 lines each on my desk in my home office and I’m prepared to use them all for Adam! BTW: Land lines go through almost every time!

Bluesman | 5/19/2009, 12:34 pm EST

News to all the people who were Danny Gokey fans and think ALL of Danny Gokey fans will vote for Kris. I am a HUGE Danny Gokey fan and so are my co-workers. We are voting for Adam Lambert. He is by far the better singer. It is a vocal contest. With Danny being out our votes belong to Lambert.

BUYAMERICAN | 5/19/2009, 12:34 pm EST

I don’t hate Adam because he may or may not be gay. I hate Adam because he is an American Idol! I despise EVERY SINGLE American Idol. They are all a bunch of desperate for fame, musically TALENTLESS hacks. Sure they can sing and dance big fat fucking deal. Write you own music, and SING them live every time. Those stupid head gear “mics” are a fucking insult. Take your stupid dance crews and you bad pop garbage and get it off the radio. Soon the only production lines left in the U.S. will be for pop stars.
BUY AMERICAN CARS, FROM AN AMERICAN CAR COMPANY, BUILT BY AMERICANS, IN AMERICA. If you drive a foreign car I hope you die!

CJ | 5/19/2009, 12:40 pm EST

I don’t want to say Adam isn’t talented, because he is. I just wish this show was called American Talent instead. To me Adam should not be an Idol for our younger generation. His look and his sexual preferences don’t sound like someone I would want as an Idol.
I also believe Adam will go far without Idol. Kris needs this opportunity to be big. He deserves it.
Please vote KRIS!!

hlona | 5/19/2009, 12:44 pm EST

This is my 1st year watching, or even caring about American Idol – all because of Adam Lambert. He has such charisma that you can’t get enough. I was compelled to google him and found that others feel the same. I bought an ipod just to download his songs. I bought tickets to the summer AI concert. Adam’s fan are older (it’s common knowledge that Kris’s fans teenie boppers), they have more disposable income (due to our age), and have lived thru generations of music (60’s, 70’s, 80’s & the 90’s). We are a very musically inclined generation and we know something great when we hear it. I’m just so privileged to be able to watch Adam’s rise to fame. He’s the real deal. Adam is in it to win it – let’s see that he does! VOTE FOR ADAM (sing it with me… all night long – ha!)

cindy | 5/19/2009, 12:44 pm EST

umm people just for reminder, this is A SINGING COMPETITION not a BEAUTY PAGEANT so if u vote for kris, you definitely find the ‘good package one’ but hello ADAM’S A ROCK GOD he had the best voice ever on Idol!! its really sad to know that america only saw the outer-beauty that is not cool at all… vote adam!!!

BUYAMERICAN | 5/19/2009, 12:59 pm EST

Cindy
Come on lady get a fuckin clue! Adam is not a rock god, he is a really good game show contestant. Lennon, McCartney, Morrison, Hendrix, Elvis, Cobain, VanHalen, Staley, Page, Plant, Jager, those are Rock Gods. When Adams music last for generations then you can call him a rock God. Till then stop insulting TRUE musical artists.
When Adam WRITES HIS OWN MUSIC, that my people are still listning to in 20 years he will be a great artist. Right now he is nothing but an actor who can sing.

Raindog | 5/19/2009, 1:18 pm EST

Who with an ounce of creativity really cares about this show or their contestants. All it is, is a factory or breeding ground for dull, boring, generic music that’s already been done. No new ground here! Wake up people1

londonlambertlover | 5/19/2009, 1:26 pm EST

Adam is amazing. He has been consistently good, whether he is an actor who sings amazingly well or not. He is the only reason many people tune in each weak, he is so compelling. surely based on this he deserves to win? haha..but they are both good role models, each having something different to offer. I just want Adam to reap the rewards of winning. VOTE ADAM LAMBERT!!

londonlambertlover | 5/19/2009, 1:28 pm EST

sorry week*

Daniel, MN | 5/19/2009, 1:33 pm EST

Kris is a good singer but his main problem is his musical style can be found in some tourist spots all over america – from the piers in san francisco to the subways of new york.

While Adam reintroduced the glorious rock/glam era of the past decade. A breathe of fresh air amidst an airwaves full or rap, r and b and lady gaga.

This Danny Gokey fan is voting for GLAMBERT!

sabrina | 5/19/2009, 1:34 pm EST

THREE THINGS!!!

1. If you are an ADAM fan VOTE ALOT.. Kris has more teenie bopper fans and they will dial more.
2. Can you imagine Adam Lambert opening up for Kris Allen on the tour.. come on.. no way!
3. Yes, Kris is talented and no Adam has not earned the “Rock God” status YET.. but dont underestimate him.. In the You Tube/American Idol reality age we all live in.. Music doesnt take the same general direction it used to. Sometimes and overnight sensation of true talent can occur due to technology. Back when Elvis and alot of them were famous they toured etc. Nowadays you can get someone out immediateley.. so there is no harm in rushing Adam and calling him an icon.. the only problem is that he has written any songs “yet”. He will, trust me.

gg | 5/19/2009, 1:36 pm EST

BUYAMERICAN;
Adam HAS WRITTEN songs that are everywhere on the net, will they endure time? who knows but they are pretty good!

Akashia | 5/19/2009, 1:40 pm EST

Kris does have the pre-teen fans…but do they actually buy records?

Ask David Archuleta…

Where is he now by the way?

A. Jones | 5/19/2009, 1:45 pm EST

Since when did one memorable performance (Heartless) a week before the f-n finale make you a worthy winner?

EXACTLY!

There have been lots of contestants just like Kris. Don’t hate on me for this analog, but…this is like the presidential election (yeah yeah I know, it’s justa tv show, blah blah) but really, think about it. A vote for Kris is a vote for same old same old. A Kris win win will keep AI in the same tired, well-worn space it has been infor awhile. A vote for Adam is a vote for change-new & exciting, risky, exilerating! The only thing I worry about is that 5 year contract. Yikes. I hope if he wins they see Adam as an artist-not just some money making drone. That would be a shame. And if he does come in second, that at least will be a comfort-Adam will be able to blossom like a butterfly rather than potentially be a stiled and caged bird.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 1:45 pm EST

i kind of agree with raindog here.
i dont really watch the show because they are all the same to me. yeah adam might be good, but we will just have to see what hes really made of when he makes his first album.

Akashia | 5/19/2009, 1:47 pm EST

Fact:

David Cook Album – 1.3 million sold
David Archuleta Album- 693,942 sold

so what I meant? Pre-teens have no buying power. I think Kris will be another archuleta and bo bice in terms of album sales.

Becky | 5/19/2009, 1:51 pm EST

Adam is a SHRIEKER not a singer!!!

His voice is like nails on a chalkboard!!!

Absolutely Dinner Theatre Magnitude!!!

You boviously haven’t been watching Idol all season. Kris has had several very memorable and show stealing performances-including “She Works Hard For the Money”, “Just to Feel My Love’, “Ain’t NO Sunshine”, “Heartless” and “Falling Slowly”. He’s subtle and REAL-unlike Lambert. He’s the true talent of the two. And this is not coming from a “tween” fan.

to dena | 5/19/2009, 2:11 pm EST

These comparisons of Adam to Elvis are ridiculous. I recall hearing the same thing four years ago when Taylor Hicks was an Idol contestant. Adam is a great stage performer, but in actuality, Kris is more of an artist. He writes songs, can re-arrange songs like mad and plays multiple instruments -including violin. He also invokes legitimate emotion when singing. Adam seems a bit contrived and disengenuious. And although he does have a good voice, I feel like he should spend his time in acting, not as a musician. I just don’t see it.

jsauer | 5/19/2009, 2:16 pm EST

I think Adam is the one that should win this competition. You can’t vote for someone one because they are christian or cute! We need the best singer and Adam wins that hands down. He oozes talent. He has the charisma and talent. Cool it with the gay shit. He’s a nice guy and his personal life is none of your business. He is here to win a singing competition and that is is!!! Vote till your fingers fall of tonight. Yes unfortunately 4 hours but it will be well worth it!

To everyone who belittles Adam Lambert – Screw You.

Adam’s versatile and an amazing performer.

Apparently you guys don’t know the difference between being able to do high notes and screaming. And btw, he sings more than he hits high notes.

Kris is a good person but he’s not a star…and who says an idol needs to be wholesome…are you living in the 18th century?

valentina | 5/19/2009, 2:30 pm EST

By the way, are you daring to tacitly imply through your adam insult/kris ommision that the latter individual is actually a rock god?

just wonderin’.

people, vote for who you like best. stop acting like a high school bullies. it’s ridiculous. peace.

Brad Wilkes, UT | 5/19/2009, 2:48 pm EST

“In many cases, Lambert clearly transcends the red-blue divide, as evidenced by the statistics presented on ‘Dial Idol’ and other websites that estimate the percentage of votes each competitor receives by state. But I have to wonder if some of his angry detractors are those with a deep-seated dislike for all things liberal and idiosyncratic.”

“Could an Adam Lambert victory represent a new level of acceptance for difference? Would a Kris Allen win reinforce communitarian values and the familiar? Some may see this season’s contest as a battle of hope and change pitted against tradition and custom.”

I do not normally post comments to blogs, however, I am a huge fan of Adam Lambert. Adam has restored Glory to American Idol and can truly sing. No disrespect to Kris Allen, but, there were much better singers in the competition that was let go. This is a “Singing Competition” and America should vote for the best “Singer”, not for the guy with charm. I hope that they change the rules and give the Judges a greater input next season.

GlAmbERt | 5/19/2009, 3:50 pm EST

hE’s so gonna win… he’s hot and sings amazing.. so the other guy just should drop for his own good… AAdAMM roCKSSSSSS!!!

Srah | 5/19/2009, 3:56 pm EST

If Adam stopped screaming & screeching long enough then maybe we could SEE if he can actually sing. His Areosmith performance actually SCARED me (and my dog), it was awful. AWFUL!
I hope Kris wins, honestly. He can sing, play instruments, and write music. The true test of a real “musician”. Adam will turn out just like David (who?) Cook if he wins.
Of course – in this competition, the winner IS the loser – at least then they can go off and sign with a record label of their choice who actually WANTS them to be successful, unlike most idols.
So I guess I hope Kris loses??? Then maybe we’ll actually get to see him make music.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 3:59 pm EST

I hope Adam comes second, then he can go and sing for Velvet Revolver!

Screech? | 5/19/2009, 4:13 pm EST

You guys are crazy. Adam sings in a high range sometimes, that is not screeching. Rediculous. You you call mariah carry a screecher?

superunknown | 5/19/2009, 4:19 pm EST

I just don’t get Adam at all or his appeal. He’s too wimpy for rock in my opinion. He makes Freddy Mercury seem straight. And I can’t take the shrieking. He absolutely butchered “One”. He may be entertaining but I just don’t see his record selling. I think people will get sick of hearing his voice on a full record.

Kayla | 5/19/2009, 4:23 pm EST

First of all … the minute you see Adam on the stage you can see that he is very comfortable on it, knows how to use the stage, preform, and can sing many typoes of music including pop , go to youtube and listen to Kiss and Tell. 2nd of all Kris is just average with an occasional good song. he has very wierd and annoying facial quirks when he sings, he has no style or personality and cant preform or own the stage. We all like differant kinds of music but I can totally see Adam for years in a rock musical movie and being on TV and selling albums and on broadway. I can see Kris making an album and fading away like Taylor Hicks or Reubon, who I loved both by the way. Adam will be in the same league as Carrie Underwood.I will be voting for Adam all night and paying to go see his shows and buy his albums!!

Laura | 5/19/2009, 5:52 pm EST

Don’t kid yourself….doesn’t matter what the votes are, American Idol is picking Adam as their winner. Its a business folks. Adam will make American Idol 10x more money than Kris. That being said, Adam is an incredible entertainer!

Laura | 5/19/2009, 5:53 pm EST

Adam Lambert is a Rock God!

Adam Lambert should do a song called Idler. One chord and one word. Kris Allen on drums

Circe | 5/19/2009, 6:14 pm EST

Quality should be awarded; Adam is quality.

me | 5/19/2009, 6:26 pm EST

The fact that Rolling Stone cares about this is one of the reasons why I don’t subscribe and why my visits here are rare and disappointing.

Lou Lou | 5/19/2009, 6:27 pm EST

Adam will not be the American Idol….he will be the WORLD IDOL!!

madA | 5/19/2009, 6:30 pm EST

It is so hilarious….you have to Google Adam Lambert to get to this site. So why are Adam haters 1)googling his name 2)taking time to read the article 3)make comments! LOL!! I am an Adam fan and have not yet googled Danny or Kris and read about them! LOL

Ricky Stevens | 5/19/2009, 6:52 pm EST

Does anyone else find it dismaying to see that his utter lack of talent and horrible screech of a voice are not on this list?

jennifer toronto | 5/19/2009, 7:34 pm EST

Well the final is here.Im nervose to see Adam sing i hope he doesnt go to over the top.I think he should play a guitar something different.I think adam has the best voice but Kris is all american boy and might win.
Because of adams sexuailty that may come in to play it should not but voters may be wary.
I normally dont watch Idol but because Adam was there made it all worth the while.
Go adam!! vote for him he is the best

ex1 | 5/19/2009, 7:40 pm EST

Tonight is the night folks to make the decision between Adam and Chris. And if you have time, do a bit of research on Adam and you will clearly see why he is a much better choice to become not only the Next American Idol but the Best Idol since this show began. I was blown away with what I found. Chris will have a nice career ahead of him but Adam will prove to us through time he belongs with the Greatest Rock Stars ever.
There is no doubt in my mind that Adam has the stuff it takes to be a Super Star…… One last thought about those bent on his so called screaming …. LOL If you download Adams Studio Versions of say ” A Whole Lotta Love ” I guarantee you will Love the Song as a Complete Song among others. I have downloaded 9 songs already and have really enjoyed listening to this guy sing. It is rare nowadays that I want to listen to anything more than twice in a row but Adams stuff has been a pleasure to hear over and over again.
My Favorites are: RING of FIRE – MAD WORLD – TRACKS of MY TEARS – ONE and WHOLE LOTTA LOVE …… AWESOME STUFF! One day last week I was playing Adams Music in my Truck in my driveway and My Neighbor came over and asked who was singing these songs ….. I replied ADAM LAMBERT from A I ….. She then said Wow! That guy sounds AWESOME!!!
I rest my case ….. a Super Star waiting to begin VOTE for Adam ….. I sure have been

CJ | 5/19/2009, 8:26 pm EST

That’s just crazy talk comparing Adam to Elvis. He is more like Michael Jackson – a real FREAK!

Sally | 5/19/2009, 8:27 pm EST

All it takes to know that Adam Lambert deserves to win is the ability to listen.

He is a truly gifted singer, a revelation.

Music Fan212 | 5/19/2009, 8:39 pm EST

Has anyone closed their eyes & actually listened to Adam & Chris? Adam’s screeching & screaming is like nails on a chalkboard. Chris has a beautiful voice – much more longevity. Number of songs/albums sold will be the final vote. I predict Adam to be a one-hit wonder. Vote for Chris!

Jenyc | 5/19/2009, 9:36 pm EST

I have never in my life watched this show until this year, and it was because of Adam. Chris is good, but boring. I would actually consider seeing Adam in concert. I can’t wait to see what he does on his own….

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 10:28 pm EST

vote for adam!!!

Momma Kat | 5/19/2009, 11:30 pm EST

Where is the discussion about how
UNBELIEVABLY bad Kara’s finale song was??? That was a disaster!!!!!!!!!! Miley Cyrus has a better single,,,,,,

God Help the show if they don’t ditch her….even my 8 year old can’t stand her!

Worse, god help us if that song is the single the winner has to put out. Can you imagine hearing that again, much less on radio rotation???

Peace.

beth | 5/19/2009, 11:48 pm EST

The people who say vote Kris, learn to spell his name right! It’s with a K not C!

Vote Adam!!!!
Better singer should win.

Idolhead Ed | 5/20/2009, 1:26 am EST

Vote for Allison……with your wallett. The other two guys will get bankrolled.

Not tone deaf... | 5/20/2009, 3:35 am EST

This is a funny blog! Anyone who says Adam Lambert “screams” doesn’t know anythng about belting out a note and must be tone deaf!
May he who has the most talent win…I feel sorry for anyone having to record “No Boundaries”.
Atleast Adam did his best to make it sound like a song remotely worthy of a competition like American Idol. And yes, if Adam Lambert loses, well Simon may as well leave Idol because most of the audience will never give it credibility again. And the audience will leave…bet on it!

AdamFanFreak | 5/20/2009, 3:41 am EST

Come on Adam!!! You deserve to win this thing but…if you have to release that horrible song “No Boundaries” that Kara wrote then maybe you shouldn’t win. Either way, Adam has been more versatile than any other contestant, ever!!! Vocally, Kris doesn’t even compare to Adam! Kris is also pitchy a lot. Thank god for Adam and Allison!! They got Rock N Roll back in the spotlight!!! Win it, Adam!!

luvadamlambert | 5/20/2009, 9:36 am EST

ADAM SHOULD WIN.

Dr FeelGood | 5/20/2009, 10:42 am EST

American Idol is pathetic. This isn’t real rock n roll. This is sugar coated bull at its best.

ex1 | 5/20/2009, 11:40 am EST

After last nights final performances I believe Adam will Win tonight without a doubt but feel bad about Kara’s Song ” No Boundaries ” because it will be Adams First Single to be released and it is the Only Song I will not download from Itunes this week sung by Adam.
I just did not care for it but between Adam and Kris …… Adam did the best with what he had to do with a not so good song…..

SCREAMER | 5/20/2009, 1:19 pm EST

ADAMS A SCREAMER AND BELONGS IN THEATRE..KRIS ALLEN IS THE FRONT RUNNER IN MY BOOK..THE VOTES WILL TELL THE STORY!! GO KRIS!!

BUYAMERICAN | 5/20/2009, 1:21 pm EST

I think Adam will end up like Underskank too. Maybee he can have someone write him a song about wrecking his boyfriends truck!

Elle J | 5/20/2009, 4:00 pm EST

Adam so deserves to win. He has devoted his life to singing. Along with his talent, he appears to be a gracious person, thankful of the feedback he receives. I can see Adam, down the road, being inducted in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. Go Adam!

WILL NEVER WATCH AMERICAN IDOL | 5/20/2009, 10:22 pm EST

EVERYONE KNOWS CHRIS CAN NOT SING.
ADAM’S VOICE IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE. NEVER AGAIN WILL I WATCH AMERICAN IDOL IT HAS TO BE RIGGED. NO COMPARISON IN VOCALS!!!!!!!!! MY WHOLE FAMILY IS IN SHOCK…..

Anonymous | 5/20/2009, 10:31 pm EST

Finally a true winner! Way to go kris! Sorry adam fans guess not all americans believe a good screamer is a good singer! Adam will be a hit on broadway but that’s it. Kris represents what america needs right now. WAY TO GO KRIS!

JesusIStheWAY | 5/20/2009, 11:34 pm EST

Kris won because of his talent, creativity, and marketabillity. Adam needs to stick to the stage (gay caberet/female impersenators) and leave pop singing to Kris. Nobody wants to hear that estrogen laden squealing on their radios. Sure, his slower ballads like “Mad World” were great, but the screaming numbers were way over the top – it got old quick. He only went that far because of the media hype and Simon’s biased comments. Congratulations Kris, you earned it. Enjoy it brother. GO GOD!

A fan!!!! | 5/20/2009, 11:51 pm EST

I am thrilled beyond belief that Adam Lambert came in second. An historical review indicates that the “winner” will not exceed expectations, while the “runner-up” will, indeed, exceed expectations.

Adam Lambert is, most obviously, extremely talented. I look forward to his aspirations as a professional in the highly competative business of his choice.

anonymous | 5/20/2009, 11:55 pm EST

Kris doesn’t have anything unique. There’s tons of singers out there who sound just like him. Why do people want to hear the same crap all the time? Adam deserved to win. Yes, he likes to ’scream’, but at least it sounds good, and that doesn’t mean that he can’t sing. His singing is beautiful. The louder notes make the songs more exciting. Kris is boring and definitely not as talented as Adam. Kris is only ‘alright’. There’s nothing incredible about him or his vocals.

anonymous | 5/20/2009, 11:59 pm EST

Idol Lover | 5/21/2009, 12:27 am EST

I am so upset with Adam’s loss and the reaction of many “Christians” about Adam. To just assume that Adam is not religious based on his performances and persona is SO faulty, and probably has a lot to do with this inability in many religions to be flexible, inclusive and tolerant. To the writer who described Adam’s singing as “estrogen laden squealing” and said that Adam should stick to the stage of gay caberet and female impersonators, this just shows this intolerance. Adam was in Wicked, he performed in musical theater. I find these comments to be extremely sexist AND homophobic.
Kris is talented but Adam is just so much more so, just re-listen to their singing with Queen, Adam clearly out-sung Kris. Additionally, discussing Adam’s unusual voice, what about some of the greatest singers of our time — Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Tracy Chapman, and so many others; they are so well known for many reasons, but also because they sound DIFFERENT. I think that Kris put it perfectly when he said that Adam should have won.
I do think that Adam’s loss says a lot about homophobia in this country as well as the age bracket that AI caters too (as could be seen by the wide selection of boomer-friendly musicians on the finale).
I just find it really sad that we can’t embrace the new, edgy sound of Adam, rather than simply falling back on a clean cut, boring singer who sounds no different than anyone else.
It is no wonder that Kris’ wife jumped up on the stage right after he won. With such a heteronormative bias in our country, a idol without a clearly defined sexuality, or even one that needed to be defined or differentiated is threatening. However, I found the whole thing to be a sad commentary about the continuance prejudices in the U.S. I am not saying that not voting for Adam was homophobic; however, I am saying that when it seemed clear that Adam was performing better, the fact that he lost speaks to a nation that is by and large intolerant. I found it satisfactory that Simon did not stand up in the end. In this case, the best man did not win.

Emerald Fairy XXX | 5/21/2009, 12:34 am EST

If your a Chris Allen fan, and excited he won- well then maybe you didn’t really watch his reaction. Although he is a nice person. He wasn’t being gracious in saying Adam should have won, he was telling the truth. Adam deserved the title. I will never watch A.I. again. EVER! This show is pop and clearly I’m not. This is how Chris won. Got Dannys leftovers. Right wing and christian vote. Prep vote [ more money = ability to vote more times] Also reminded me of a Drake Bell, adored by girls, but can’t really be taken seriously as a musician by anyone over 12.

KatieGirl | 5/21/2009, 12:41 am EST

I can’t stand Lambert’s arrogance and his fake humble attitude. He comes off as being the nice guy, but inside he’s already won in his head and won’t take any criticism seriously because he thinks he already knows it all. Most of all, I can’t stand it when he screams and sticks his tongue out. Makes me want to scream…just like Adam! Go Kris…proof positive…nice guys do finish first.

Simon | 5/21/2009, 1:30 am EST

This is the real Simon — Adam should have won!!!!!! Kris will not sell any records.

Zeebie | 5/21/2009, 1:40 am EST

I was in utter shock when Adam lost. The way American Idol is set up is a train wreck and unfair. Everyone should be limited to one vote so a fair amount of votes come through. I bet a whole bunch of tweens sat there voting for Kris a million time simply because they had nothing better to do. That’s unfair to the contestants. Rules need to be changed so this doesn’t happen again, Adam deserved the win much more than Kris ever did. He was consistantly good, Kris wasn’t.

Because he is a Better Performer – Singer and Creative Artist…. The ingredients needed to be a Super Star and Adam has it all by far ….. Now off to Download the last of Adams songs from itunes :-) The only Artist I have ever downloaded songs by from A I

ADAM SHOULD HAVE WON HANDS DOWN!

I am really laughing out loud with all your comments guys. Wew! What a tremendous boiling point of temperature.as if you guys can’t control your temper. Good thing everyone is not in the actual AI stadium. Anyway, here’s what i would like to share, after the final result of AI. Well, for me…speaking of vocal prowess and singing capability, obviously ,Adam has it comparing to Kris. (undeniably speaking) But whatever the result is,everyone should accept it. If these so-called Christians judged Adam as a gay, well i believed gays are still acceptable with God,as long as these gays observes God’s law. If ever we saw Adam’s ungodly pics online,well..we shouldn’t misjudge the guy, what someone had done yesterday, can still be forgiven if he asked for forgiveness today. I believed both guys has given us a great tremendous entertainment. Go Adam! Go Kris! Prove yourselves!!!

iluvkrisallen | 5/21/2009, 9:32 am EST

kris allen definitely deserved to win. His personality on stage was real, not to mention emotional. Adams was all fake, fake ,fake, scream, fake. He belongs on broadway. Kris allen won’t end up like other superstars. Adam would have ended up having to go to rehab or something. Adam is no good. KRIS ALLEN IS!

AI did what it was supposed to for Adam. It introduced him to the world. If he had won, he would have been stuck under their contract doing their pop thing when he’s so much more creative than that. If you’ll notice David Cook has had to tone it down from his creative juices last year. His songs are good but they’re more ballads. Adam will get to make an album now that expresses who he is which is a great artist. I don’t think it was such a bad thing that he lost even though he was the better singer.

useurbrains | 5/21/2009, 9:52 am EST

Adam won. Christians are dumb.

Mrs. Lambert | 5/21/2009, 11:34 am EST

This is just the beginning. Adam will surely be big star. I can’t wait to see him in concert. Yohhooo.. ADAM. You are my Idol

J | 5/21/2009, 12:02 pm EST

I honestly thought that Adam Lambert in no way could possibly lose American Idol to Kris Allen. Who would’ve thought. I mean really, probably the most talented singer/performer in American Idol history to lose to someone that has a decent voice and a 12 year old charm, but is definitely second-rate in comparison. I can only guess that a lot of conservative or semi-conservative/moderate fans were put off by Adam’s flamboyance (okay gay vibe). Shouldn’t be like that, but hey it’s their vote. It’s just sad that the better singer/performer lost.

Anonymous | 5/21/2009, 2:06 pm EST

Adam lost because he has already had a chance to be a star and couldn’t make it. He has been on broadway tried making a album but has anyone heard it? No. For all those who say the winner is really the loser I have one name for you carrie underwood. The country stars always make it big. Now if there was a screaming scary group adam would be number 1.

Kansas | 5/21/2009, 3:40 pm EST

Time to start the healing process to just “get over it”, and start planning your pity party.
Kris did not win because of “Biggots and Haters”. Kris won because the majority of America liked Kris more. Period.
They thought he sang well and relied on his musical talents of playing the guitar and piano, instead of Adam relying on playing the audience.
No conspiracy, no cheating, Kris won “Fair and Square.”

The drama queen lost!! | 5/21/2009, 3:50 pm EST

Adam lost because all of his LOVERS were either too stoned or drunk to vote!
Go find a Phantom of the Opera or Rocky Horror Picture Show off-Brodaway, 2-bit show to star in.
Or maybe find a female impersonater show to star in, you definitely have the voice for it.

cody sarauer | 5/21/2009, 4:37 pm EST

I’m a christian and i would’ve voted for adam lambert if I had the chance to vote.

damarie | 5/21/2009, 7:23 pm EST

I am a 41 year old woman, my mother is 65. We are definitely Adam Lambert fans. We are saddened by a lot of the comments we’ve read, post finale. Kris won. Kudos to Kris. The one thing I can most assuredly deduce after watching Idol week after week, is Adam Lambert is not a hater. For those of you who proclaim to be Christian yet throw mighty rocks, shame on you. Kris is a Christian and would never demean Adam. Yes, I’m disappointed Adam didn’t win, but I know great things await him. I wish them both every success possible.

eX1 | 5/22/2009, 12:28 am EST

ADAM FANS …… You must D O W N L O A D …..
” A CHANGE IS GONNA COME ” from ADAMS ….
TRACKS at iTUNES and You will FEEL what really is Going to Happen for ADAM LAMBERT ! He is so AMAZING ……. WOW !!!! And I am a 62 year old ROCKER who has heard The BEST of The BEST! I now OWN MY Fist of hopefully Many More ALBUMS by This AWESOME ARTIST! Woooooooo Hooooooooooooooooo !

eX1 | 5/22/2009, 12:41 am EST

PS …… You cannot deny the fact that us Baby Boomers have heard some INCREDIBLE ARTISTS.
ADAM LAMBERT is a Sound for Sore Ears :-) LOL

Adam won really | 5/22/2009, 6:18 am EST

Adam definately won in the real world…he will now have complete FREEDOM to produce proper records not the commercial crap he would in that nonsense contract.

He will have a choice of record labels offering him 10 times the amount of money Kris gets (got I hated what he did with his mouth)

Bay Area | 5/22/2009, 5:32 pm EST

Adam lost because he sounds just like the lead singer from Stryper.

His voice is twenty-five years too late.

Rochester, New York | 5/22/2009, 10:31 pm EST

Isn’t this a bit like the Presidential results. The man who had the most inherent integrity, grace and dignity as well as tremendous competence, skill and gifts won. Not the loudest or showiest. Both are vey talented, fortunate artists. we were lucky to have such performances by such special people. Kris, however did not have to force his talent theatrically. It just is!!!!!

Troelsy | 5/23/2009, 6:40 am EST

I feel sorry for Kris! He knows who is the more talented of the two and now he is stuck with that horrid single too! lol

I was a little upset when I heard the results but the more I thought about it the more I believe it’s the only right thing. As soon as I heard Adam for the first time, I think we all knew he would be in the finals. He is so fastly superior to any of the other performers this season that it soon became, for me, about what Adam was gonna do this week. He IS the winner of AI8 no doubt. But I think it will be more useful for Kris to win, to get that contract. Adam is bigger than that.

Oh and for those who say how amazing Kris is, my god, I have heard millions just like him! At the end of the day he is just a boy with a guitar. I’ve hung around alot of musicians and seen many guys who can sing better than Kris and are more creative too. So okay if Adam is not your cup of coffee but dammit, Kris is not anything special. lol Sweet kid though.

Texas T | 5/23/2009, 8:45 am EST

Adam should have won, but this is a country who elected Geo W Bush TWICE. Go figure. Kris is nothing special and will fade fast.

Corinne Johnson | 5/24/2009, 1:39 am EST

I would first like to say to all of those so called christians out there. If you really were a true christian You would pratice tolerance and accept people for who they are. To All Of THE PEOPLE Who ARE ADAM Haters. YOU ARE JUST Not ABLE TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX WHEN IT COMES TO TRUE TALENT. If you look back in history AT musical artist like The Beatles, Janis Joplin, Aerosmith, etc.. All of these Bands were known for being different vocally. I believe ADAM will have a good start in the rock world or A hot start especially with Queen Looking at Adam for the lead singer. I want all of you to keep in mind I was just a very young child when some of the previous bands I mentioned were and still are rock legends. SO TO ADAM LAMBERT ROCK ON AND CONTINUE TO BE ORIGINAL.”KEEP IT REAL”. Peace out

this is pure sh-t | 5/24/2009, 10:27 pm EST

if adam & kris were walking down christopher st. and bent over they would get what they really want.

Glambert | 6/5/2009, 2:33 pm EST

I think it is rlly unfair 2 judge sb by there sexuality it’s a part of who they r and i don’t think they choose 2 be gay. This contest is about talent not about religion and sexuality. And to be honest kris doesn’t have much of a chance on making in the real world.I mean who would buy his CD’s.He’s nothing special. But Adam is soooooo talented and he rlly deserved to win but u know what?! It’s better that he lost because he won’t be stuck to the Idol contract which leaves him free to do what he wants.GO ADAM!!!!GO ADAM!!!!And kris, u have to feal sorry for him because he obviously didn’t want to win!!!!You could see the guilt on his face!!!GO ADAM!!!!!!!GO ADAM!!!!!GO ADAM!!!

kiwimusician | 7/25/2009, 8:58 am EST

I’m a bit homophobic in some ways, however that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have voted for Adam. I’ve never met one person in NZ that thinks there was nothing fishy going on. Adam is possibly the best singer that has ever been on A.I , yes I see there are a few out there saying Kris won fair and square, but get real, Adam was in a league of his own, Kris was no comparison. The show is obviously as rigged as the US government. Vote Ron Paul!
