Aerosmith’s Joe Perry Hints At Walmart Deal For New Album

In a new interview with EW’s Music Mix, Joe Perry opened up about Aerosmith’s delayed new album and upcoming tour with ZZ Top — and also inadvertently let slip that the band’s new album might be a Walmart exclusive, like AC/DC’s Black Ice and the Eagles’ Long Road Out of Eden.

According to Perry, the band is frustrated that despite Perry’s need for knee surgery and singer Steven Tyler’s pneumonia, they haven’t finished their new album in time. “This is about the third time I’ve had to make excuses why the record isn’t out,” Perry told EW. “You line everything up just right: Brendan O’Brien producing, Walmart and Sony screaming for the record, tour coming up, and there’s no record. We’re still in shock that it’s not happening.” Perry was able to complete his own “fucking great” solo album, as well as make some culinary advances with his hot sauce and a new product called Rock n’ Roni.

Perry also confirmed that like many acts hitting the road this summer, Aerosmith will play one of their LPs in its entirety on their upcoming tour. “We’re going to pick an album and do it from front to back. Even though we do bits and pieces from all the albums, to me, there’s kind of a vibe that happens when you hear an album from beginning to end,” Perry said, though he wouldn’t specify which LP the band would play. Aerosmith kick off their tour with fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top on June 10th in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

Lets just hope the new album sounds like Aerosmith and nothing like the electronic stuff on Just Push Play!!!!!

Mike | 5/19/2009, 12:01 pm EST

Can’t say I care for it when they play an entire album. Part of the fun of seeing a live band is that (at least in theory) you don’t know what they’ll play and in what order.

flylowdj | 5/19/2009, 12:54 pm EST

Yes heaven forbit you let an artist explore their art…I bet nobody looks or acts the way they did 5 years ago so back off.

toby | 5/19/2009, 1:00 pm EST

I wish bands would do the “deep cuts tour” for their real die hard fans, I mean I still listen to albums from front to back so Adams Apple or I Wanna Know Why, ect.. would be a real treat to hear live.

I Hate Wal Mart | 5/19/2009, 1:23 pm EST

Wal-Mart? I guess I’ll just have to buy it used…

martin | 5/19/2009, 1:36 pm EST

if they choose one album i hope its Rocks arguably their best one

Tino | 5/19/2009, 1:38 pm EST

I gotta think they’ll play either Toys in the Attic or Rocks. Hopefully the new album is good, and out sometime this year. If it’s a Walmart exclusive, it will sell like hotcakes.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 2:31 pm EST

They should play whatever album John McCain likes best.

Right wing douchebags.

Bombers | 5/19/2009, 3:34 pm EST

Get Your Wings! Gets my vote.

Dude Man | 5/19/2009, 4:05 pm EST

Stop hating Joe for his politics. At least he doesn’t pull a RATM and put in a song or a Kayne West and go on the air and attack someone on a personal level. I still love the music of Pearl Jam and Don Henley despite thier left-wing politics. Judge Aerosmith on the music and you’ll find that they are one of the greatest rock bands ever.

WTF | 5/19/2009, 6:47 pm EST

Stupid Guitar Hero Posers I used to respect this band now they are just a joke.

Rabbitbunny | 5/19/2009, 7:26 pm EST

Aerosmith sucks a fat dong. What’s the last good album they put out? Pump? Just retire.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 9:29 pm EST

If country music can totally turn their backs on Dixie Chicks… i have no problem turning my back on Aerosmith.

It’s not like Aerosmith was anything special in the first place. Always a mediocre poor man’s Rolling Stones.

Anonymous | 5/19/2009, 11:01 pm EST

Youre right about not hating Aerosmith for their politics. You should hate them for how they treat their fans. They would rather play a private show for a bunch of dentists than for 20000 fans who actually buy tickets.

Imp | 5/19/2009, 11:10 pm EST

Yikes… look at this pic!Is this Stephen Pearcy and Warren Dimartini in a wax museum?

nawaf | 5/20/2009, 12:52 am EST

aero invented bad boy rock n roll for me they are way better then rolling stones even that the stones made killer cds lately but still aero they have the style and the walk

Hearing the latest dinosaur act to do an exclusive deal with Satan-Mart is no surprise, especially since Aerosmith has never been the least-bit poltical. It still begs the question however, at a certain age do you just stop caring? Why are there no younger top-selling acts doing exclusive deals with Walmart? Is integrity just a passing fancy? Is it somehow tied-in with your sex drive?

Anonymous | 5/20/2009, 3:16 am EST

“Faces” will always be know as the poor man’s “Rolling Stones”

TobyTyler | 5/20/2009, 2:28 pm EST

The Faces are the Stone’s Drunk Uncle…Aerosmith just sucks!

the REAL tc | 5/20/2009, 3:10 pm EST

if you want to listen to some good Aerosmith, go back to the first 5 albums. PRIME stuff.

Jungleland2 | 5/20/2009, 3:12 pm EST

“Why are there no younger top-selling acts doing exclusive deals with Walmart? ”

Because WalMart is not asking

They want bands that will attract 35-55 year old music fans that no longer get out to record stores – but shop WalMart & Sams club to buy food and household supplies.

When you spend $150 at Wal Mart on household crap, what’s another $10 for something you WANT??

Also Wal Mart does a fantasic job of marketing the band (games. T shirts, Hats, back catalog, posters etc.)

Best Buy and Target do the same thing, but for some reason WAL MART pulls it off best

killtheindustry | 5/20/2009, 8:30 pm EST

Please Aerosmith… Please stop peeing all over the brilliant legacy you blessed the world with until 1982.

Please get back on drugs and alcohol all of you. Your sober selves can’t tap into that magic vein of monster riffs, cheeky lyrics and killer arrangements.

Stop the madness – RETIRE!!!!!!!!

Janice | 5/20/2009, 10:36 pm EST

Ummm…The guys look pretty good in the picture to me for their age. Steven Tyler looks a HELL of alot better than Pearcy, and he’s 20 years OLDER!! seriously, I saw Ratt last summer and Pearcy looks rough…kinda like Jeff Goldblum at the end of The Fly.

chris | 5/21/2009, 11:12 am EST

satan-mart—lol.

panther77 | 5/22/2009, 6:48 pm EST

I’m so sick of these guys! The first 6 albums are VINTAGE Aerosmith. The rest is just trash. My God these guys are in their sixties and still playing this stuff. Give it a rest already!

A guy | 5/23/2009, 12:39 am EST

they just look sleazier and cheaper as they get older, its like a kind of cheap trick

Anonymous | 5/23/2009, 5:21 pm EST

I’d rather see them do an exclusive with all the mom and pop music stores out there who still cater to real music fans. They won’t do that though because WAL*MART can make them a load of money… like they don’t already have enough. But, I’ll still buy the CD wherever it’s sold because I am still a huge fan of their music, not their marketing plans.

Eddie Murphy | 5/25/2009, 8:51 pm EST

Wal Mart rules!!!

jon.macvean@gmail.com | 5/26/2009, 9:04 am EST

Jimmy | 6/8/2009, 9:55 pm EST

I like to buy Hamburger from Wal-Mart and my Aerosmith CDs!

Kira | 6/15/2009, 5:43 pm EST

“I’d rather see them do an exclusive with all the mom and pop music stores out there who still cater to real music fans.”

I agree, I’d much rather buy the album at a local store than some corporate place like walmart.

Randy B. Goode | 6/17/2009, 1:14 am EST

in the picture, Joe Perry looks likes he’s defecating

Lewie | 6/30/2009, 4:04 pm EST

Look, it dosent matter if you know hate them because there recent albums are bad, if uve got the old ones then why are u complaining? you will have all there good stuff. And incase you havent noticed almost all of the time 99.9% OF ALL BANDS always do things for money, they did guitar hero for money. I aggree that maybe they dont put the best shows on, ive watched some and it is going a bit downhill. But at the end of the day they shouldnt retire because there LEGENDS, until one of them dies, they wont stop. ROCK ON AEROSMITH!!!
