Joaquin Phoenix Rap Footage Sought for Documentary

Joaquin Phoenix’s attempt to make the leap from actor to hip-hop star has been well documented by Rock Daily — and actor Casey Affleck, who filmed Phoenix’s ill-fated club performances and the awesomely awkward Letterman interview for what is either a real doc or the next Borat-esque comedy. Now, the producers of the Phoenix documentary — or some folks claiming to be the fim’s backers — are asking anyone with videos related to Phoenix’s pursuit of MC dreams to upload clips onto a newly launched site called JoaqDoc.com.

The Website, which Rock Daily discovered after a plea for footage was posted in our own comments section, at first seems to be the real deal; it mentions the doc’s Flemmy Productions in its release form and includes a note from the director, Phoenix’s brother-in-law Affleck. “I am making a movie about Joaquin Phoenix’s transition from movies to music,” Affleck writes (maybe). “If you have any video that pertains to this topic and would like it included in this film I would like to use it.” So instead of posting your cell phone camera footage of Phoenix bumbling, fighting hecklers and falling off stage onto YouTube, you can actually contribute to a major motion picture. This has the potential to be the most Meta film ever.

We e-mailed info@joaqdoc.com (the address in the release form) to find out if this Website is legit, and our note bounced back immediately with a message saying that address does not exist, so post your videos at the site with some caution. Despite suspicions that Phoenix’s rap career is just some an elaborate hoax, the bearded former actor insists that his rap dreams are for real. So we’ll throw it out there: A rap battle between Phoenix and The Hills‘ Spencer Pratt to see who the “white Jay-Z” really is.

Come on Joaquin, get back to work. Put away the rap dream and get back to work. It was over before it began. Oh and Casey put the camera away. Nobody wants to see this whether it’s a documentary or a mocumentary. The whole charade has grown ever so tired.

Nicole keewatin | 5/15/2009, 5:05 pm EST

I have one killer design to make that him look like different person with the rap gig, like look equally to his age and a newer combination of his look now, that would just fit it, for him, i really think it would blend out good , but i can’t see any new photos of what he look like now, damm!

Jay-Pee | 5/15/2009, 5:14 pm EST

cRap no matter who does it

People lambasting him are likely just jealous because they don’t have the balls to get out of their comfort zones.

Imp | 5/15/2009, 8:29 pm EST

Dude! Here’s an idea for a career move! Get on stage, drop trou and take a dump and walk off. It’s no worse than being just another worthless rapper, and only requires SLIGHTLY less talent!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz z

News that means nothing.

Let him do what he wants to. It’s his life, not ours.

seems odd | 5/15/2009, 11:26 pm EST

just noted something odd on that site joadoc.com, the e-mail contact is info@joacdoc.com … not joaqdoc.com. I doubt Casey would make a mistake like that.

PsychTech | 5/20/2009, 7:16 pm EST

You guys really should be praying for the health of this poor soul. It’s hard to believe that someone who’s suffered such tragedy in his life already would carry on such an inane prank for this long. That’s too morally vacuous–even for Hollywood.

Sorry about the bounce back, we were having trouble with the email server. Everything’s back up and running now, please feel free to submit your vids!

Record created on 2009-05-05 14:54:08.

Then I looked up the number listed on Google, which gave a bunch of bogus blogs and rip off type storied.

Jeeze RS, you couldn’t do that much for people? Whois.net is an easy search.
