Trailer for Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz’s “Precious” Hits the Net

5/14/09, 5:48 pm EST

The trailer for Precious, which stars both Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz, is screening now over at the WeAreAllPrecious Website. The film, which was originally titled Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire (it now takes its name from its main character) was the winner of the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and is currently a official selection at the Cannes Film Festival.

Based on its trailer alone, Carey’s performance in Precious makes amends for her less-lauded roles in Glitter and Wise Girls. The singer completely shakes off all vestiges of her diva persona and takes on the frumpy, gritty role of as a social worker. The film also features Lenny Kravitz’s actual acting debut — he previously lent his voice to the 1998 animated Rugrats Movie. The rocker makes a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the trailer as a doctor in the hospital. We’re assuming Kravitz will play a larger role, given that he’s the fourth name listed on the movie poster. The question is, will Kravitz’s performance make him worthy of our Rocker-Actors Who Don’t Suck gallery?

In his Sundance wrap-up, our movie critic Peter Travers wrote, “[Director] Lee Daniels’ film got right up in your face, being the story of Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a morbidly obese high school girl pregnant by her father for the second time. Mo’Nique, as the mother from hell, picked up an acting prize. Now let’s see if this powerhouse can dodge the chill of an NC-17 rating.” Precious opens in Los Angeles and New York on November 6th.

What do you mean ugly???

Charlize Theron in Monster is also not looking like she is looking in real life.
As i can see, she is doin´a fantastic job.

Bravo Mariah and also everybody else in the short trailer, fantastic acting…

Greetings from Germany :-)

I’m crying just watching the trailer. I’ve just reserved the book from the library. Mo’Nique and Mariah seem to do an amazing job, just by the looks of the trailer.

Oink,

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it is a heart thing; and they are all beautiful to me. This is a deep trailer dealing with deep and real issues, not superficial stuff like outer appearance. You could be the beautifulest looking person in the world; and you could even look like Halle Berry, Jennifer Anniston or Denzel or Brad Pitt on the outside, but that comment you made, made you look sooo ugly from your heart where it really matters. I pray for your “real” beauty to be revealed.

looks good

For the years I cried inside due to my dark complexion and obesity. I always had a great heart. Now, I’m just a sexy swan letting my wings flow due to my outside catching up with my inner beauty. Damn I can’t wait to see this movie.

When I saw the trailer to this movie I was almost in tears it is hard to wrap your mind around how a mother and father could abuse their child and how others can be so cruel, this is going to be a deep movie Mo’Nique is really playing her part to the T and Mariah is doing her thing to. I can’t wait until Precious come Indy

Oink needs to see the film asap. Missing the point completely.

I read the book twice and can’t wait to see the movie. I wish they could have kept the original title “PUSH” because it means so much and relates to the storyline in so many ways.

Oink, I think they added some makeup to Mariah to make her look like that. And I heard that MOnique is getting some Oscar buzz.

Mariah is wonderful..I will always love what she does, couse if u think she is a diva in a mean way u never really trusted your feelings when she sang her heart out back in the days and STILL TODAY..She is Great. and this movie, hope it wins oscars!

Mariah Carey is truly not a good looking woman at all. I hope that her acting will be much better in this movie than in her previous movies. She really should insist upon wearing make up as the au natural look is truly not for her…

Shaun | 9/28/2009, 3:00 pm EST

Simply amazed and saddened and the number of people who felt it was best focus on the looks a few rather than the plot line and performances. Sad.

Cat | 10/1/2009, 4:04 am EST

Only having seen the trailer, I plan to take my children to see this film. They need to see this to see the human strength and determination expressed by this abused teenager. Kudos!
