Blink-182 Recruit Fall Out Boy, Weezer for Reunion Tour: Hoppus and Wentz Speak Out

5/14/09, 2:40 pm EST

Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus breaks some big news in the Summer Tour Preview in the new issue of Rolling Stone: the reunited band is bringing Weezer and Fall Out Boy on the road this summer to open Blink’s first tour since 2005. The news resulted in a big reaction from fans yesterday afternoon when Hoppus posted our story on his blog — and we’ve got more from Hoppus on the lineup, and what to expect on the road right here:

“We started talking about bands to tour with and Weezer was actually one of the first ones that came up,” Hoppus tells Rolling Stone. “They wanted to do the tour, and so did Fall Out Boy. It worked out perfectly.” But fans hoping to catch all three acts together on the tour, which begins July 24th, may be out of luck: Fall Out Boy are on board for two-thirds of the dates and Weezer will play the other third. Dates for the tour, and which bands are opening in which cites, haven’t been announced at press time.

This won’t be the first time members of Blink share the stage with Weezer and Fall Out Boy. Blink guitarist Tom DeLonge’s side project Angel & Airwaves toured with Weezer last year, while Hoppus and Blink drummer Travis Barker toured with Fall Out Boy when their side project, +44, opened FOB’s summer tour in 2007.

“When we started our band, we were like, ‘Man, that’d be so awesome to meet Blink-182,’” Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz says, adding his band is looking forward to the change an opening slot will bring. “It’s been a great stretch of headlining tours the last few years, but there’s something interesting about opening up for bands when you have to rope the audience in.”

Blink-182 are also working to make this tour accessible to as many fans as possible. While the most expensive tickets will go for $60, Hoppus says the band has secured a $20 ticket fee (charges included) for the arenas. “We want this to be an experience that brings the show out to the audience,” Hoppus adds, noting the band has partnered with the set designer Kanye West and Daft Punk use for a light show that will incorporate the entire venue into the band’s performance.

And Blink will debut at least one new tune on the road alongisde favorites like “Rock Show” and “What’s My Age Again,” which may have a more polished feel thanks to the band deciding to do some serious rehearsals before hitting the road. “We used to go on stage and forget our parts,” Hoppus says. “This time we want to be more artistic. We really want the live show on this tour to be something nobody would ever expect from Blink.”

Whaaaat? | 5/14/2009, 3:37 pm EST

Why the hell is Weezer opening up for Blink-182? What a slap in the face.

surforia | 5/14/2009, 3:58 pm EST

very cool that they’re reserving a group of tickets for $20.

Tom | 5/14/2009, 4:11 pm EST

Yeah and Travis will be sitting out 99% of the tour (everywhere but California) since he’s such a bitch about flying now

ayerad | 5/14/2009, 4:41 pm EST

$20 is referring to the ticket fee, (which pays for the set/lights) and is on top of the base fee of $20-60, so that means technically, the tix will be roughly $40-80 each. oh yeah, and i’ll strangle some bitches if fob comes to boston. that’d be garbage. me + 14 year olds = disgusted fan

Mark | 5/14/2009, 5:05 pm EST

They better be coming to canada

Steve | 5/14/2009, 5:36 pm EST

I’m praying it’s Weezer that opens when Blink comes to Chicago….I can’t stand that douchebag Pete Wentz.

I | 5/14/2009, 7:02 pm EST

dude | 5/14/2009, 7:55 pm EST

jesus christ…FOB and Blink-182? both are horrible. i at least respected blink-182 a little bit before i read this article…but now?

and as for weezer opening up for them?…i think the first post by ‘Whaaaat?’ says it best.

ryan | 5/14/2009, 8:01 pm EST

id say its a co-headliner when its blink and weezer and hey ayerad read it again theyve secured $20 tickets with charges included

ugh | 5/14/2009, 8:10 pm EST

russel | 5/14/2009, 8:45 pm EST

How many plane crashes have you survived tom?

JD | 5/14/2009, 8:46 pm EST

Is there really a difference?

Tiffany | 5/14/2009, 8:55 pm EST

What’s wrong with Fall Out Boy? Why do so many people hate them? I just saw them live when they came to Utah in April and they were so good live! I can’t stand Blink 182! If they come to Utah I will go just to see Weezer & FOB then probably leave after that.

FOB love | 5/14/2009, 9:15 pm EST

Wow! That is totally cool! I like blink-182 and loooove fall out boy. I saw FOB in a concert in montreal and they are excellent live. I don’t understand why everyone is against FOB (especially pete wentz). People are always so cruel to them….

kfawv | 5/14/2009, 9:45 pm EST

Why the hell is Weezer opening up for Blink-182? What a slap in the face.

fuck you dude. obviously you know about as much about music as the douchebags in fall out boy

Thomas | 5/14/2009, 10:33 pm EST

God I hope I catch the third with Weezer and dont have to listen to a Fall Out boy set.

L | 5/14/2009, 11:35 pm EST

Oh God Oh God Please let it be Weezer in the L.A date please! I really want to see Blink but if Fall Out Boy is there I’ll pass! Nothing is worse than a bunch of 16 and under year old emo kids at a show.

I also agree that it is a slap in the face that Weezer is opening for Blink 182 though.

Tea | 5/14/2009, 11:58 pm EST

Wait wait wait wait….Weezer is the opening act for Blink 182? And they were ok with this?

blink ftw | 5/15/2009, 12:16 am EST

obnoxious weezer fans can go fuck themselves.

Emme | 5/15/2009, 12:36 am EST

Darn, I want both Weezer and FOB as opening acts, not just one.

FOB Suck | 5/15/2009, 12:47 am EST

FOB can suck my balls!

Daniel | 5/15/2009, 1:56 am EST

I prefer blink not have any openers and it just be them… weezers alright but FOB is a band for little boy and girls

k | 5/15/2009, 3:12 am EST

blink and weezer rocks but fob sucks a big cock!

FOB RULE! | 5/15/2009, 5:36 am EST

Yeh they can suck your balls, but they dont want to!

Dimas | 5/15/2009, 5:56 am EST

what?? i’ll pass then

The Music Elitist | 5/15/2009, 9:16 am EST

I like how everyone here thinks blink is badass but FOB is lame. what’s the difference?

Aaron D. | 5/15/2009, 9:19 am EST

I’d definitely want to go to one of the Weezer shows. It seems a bit weird for them to open for Blink, but since its all about album sales, and Weezer’s been on an artistic slide lately, it kinda makes sense.

FOB, on the other hand, are another matter. Their first two CDs were pretty great, but the two more recent ones are overproduced and bland. They also reek of hubris and a misguided, goofy-sounding embrace of hip-hop culture.

Britney | 5/15/2009, 10:44 am EST

Have respect for music!
Fuck you guys…
We all love music, right? So respect bands no matter what even if it isn’t your style. All these guys worked really hard to get where they are today.
I might not be the biggest fans of weezer OR fall out boy.
But I love Blink 182 so respect them and go out to the shows.
(:

FOB | 5/15/2009, 12:20 pm EST

People hate Fall Out Boy because Pete Wentz is a tool that tries too hard. That band only cared about making the big time and didnt care at all about the music, why do you think theyre albums went to crap when they got big?

iLly | 5/15/2009, 12:32 pm EST

Weezer sucks and they are overrated. Gimme blink-182 and FOB.

Guerra | 5/15/2009, 5:40 pm EST

I like all of these bands but im more of a classic rock guy so… yea. But I’ve always been a fan of Blink 182 and my girlfriend’s favorite band is Fall Out Boy so I’m hoping for that one. But I much rather see Weezer and Blink!

casey | 5/15/2009, 8:40 pm EST

hell yeah! blink is back!

luke | 5/15/2009, 10:20 pm EST

i will go if it’s weezer and blink, I hate fall out boy. they would ruin the entire concert for me

Anonymous | 5/15/2009, 11:08 pm EST

weezers not overrated bc no one really likes them but dont get me wrong i think their amazing but still

me | 5/16/2009, 3:55 am EST

fall out boy has the dates posted – so if a date is there i guess you know weezers not playing there. looks like some bitches are gonna get strangled in boston.

(: | 5/16/2009, 3:26 pm EST

i honestly don’t understand why eeryone is so fucking mean about Fall Out Boy. Or any of them.
Every single one of those bands are hard working musicans. They’re all talented. And they all LOVE what they do, why can’t you respect that? Even if you don’t like them. Telling the general public they can suck you dick is just immature.

I’m going because i love music, i think it’ll be a GREAT tour.

meerez | 5/16/2009, 5:02 pm EST

ok- i aint gonna bad mouth any bands… but… some of you people are severely poor judges of talent.

Rivers is a song writer in the same league as Lennon, Cobain, & Wilson… any one with a real knowledge of music and art is aware of that. But it goes without saying that most of the sheep on this board don’t own a copy of Rubber Soul.

Now I aint gonna comment on “Blink Out Boy”, but they don’t keep company with the forementioned greats.

Oh… and did I mention Rivers knows how to play the guitar (i mean he actually shreds- knows alot more than a few power 5th chords). But again, i aint putting down any musicians (no matter how insignificant their contribution to music will appear 10 years from now)… and Travis is the greatest.

… but Weezer- well let’s just say that Rivers is the complete and legitimate fulfillment of the void left by Kurt, and know one else has even come close since!

“…they know it all, and their pinning you to boards…” -Cuomo

21st Century Breakdown | 5/16/2009, 11:04 pm EST

How can you claim people on here are poor judges of talent and then go on to say Rivers is in the same league as Lennon, Cobain, and Wilson? You can’t just name drop a beatles album and think it gives you’re opinion more validity. Obviously you are completely biased towards weezer since he isn’t even better than Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day. Weezer is better than both these bands and kick ass but the same league as Lennon? Laughable

lovethisshit | 5/17/2009, 1:03 pm EST

lmfao
i love reading these comments.
i fiend it.

D Freezy | 5/17/2009, 11:06 pm EST

You idiots, they said on their site that on the dates that weezer is playing, fall out boy won’t be. Thank God

Blinkboyweezn | 5/18/2009, 1:37 am EST

Dude all these bands have pros and cons all of them have sold out in a way. But do you wanna be a struggling musician forever? No u want the clothes cars and ho’s! Bottom line is don’t hate. Rivers is a genius but so is patrick stump he rights some hella good rifs. Wentz gets the spotlight stump is a talent. As for blink it’s all tom nuff said. But everyone is needed In a band it’s like a basketball team u need 5 and u have stars and role plAyers. So respect every musician they are here to entertain if you font lime them then turn on old beatles or nirvana CDs or whatever YOU POSERS do to seem relevant. Peace stop the h8!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blinkboyweezn | 5/18/2009, 1:45 am EST

And anyone that mentions Lennon and cobain as best songwriters ever has no musical insight, fordight, or hindsight. Basicly what they are saying is I like van halen and jimmy Buffett hahaha please way better song writers then those two. How bout johnny cash perhaps ? And yes both cobain and Lennon sold out!!!!!!!!! So don’t hate others fir selln out

Gabby | 5/18/2009, 11:26 am EST

im 14 and i love blink and have since i was like 9 so i dont care who the tour with as long as the come to philly

Nick | 5/18/2009, 2:48 pm EST

Not that I care, but I’m shocked DeLonge went back to Blink 182. I read an interview with him a few years ago where he shit all over their legacy pretty harshly. He said among other things he’d be embarrassed to sing juvenile Blink 182 lyrics at his age now and was only interested in “creating art” with Angels And Airwaves. But I guess money talks at the end of the day.

Joe | 5/19/2009, 9:48 am EST

It’s not just that money talks, but it’s also that Travis almost died. Things changed when that all went down.

Quaz | 5/20/2009, 12:22 am EST

No No… all you teenieboppers are right! Good for Fall Out Boy! I mean, they had a loyalist fan base who respected what they did and gave them the popularity that got them into the spotlight… and what greater reward for those fans than to slap them in the face with ‘Infinity on High’ – the biggest radio regurgitated, over-produced garbage to hit CD stores in the last couple of years. Not only that, but Wentz then took the E! Hollywood Story bait and begun sticking his face and his petty comments in every glossy magazine to hit shelves all over the world before marrying a pop star (or at least the wannabe sister of one) who’s probably responsible for the pitiful lyrics that have burned all our ears on the group’s latest album. Fall Out Boy may not have sold their soul in all of our minds, but the fat pay cheques from Warner Music (or whichever label it is funding these idiots’ and their egos) definitely changed their job description from musicians to celebrities. Blink and Weezer no doubt rock, but I’m from Australia and I’m glad this tour isn’t coming down under because I wouldn’t want to see any of my friends’ money get wasted on another prefabricated tribute to the losers that are… Fall Out Boy.

Falloutshake | 5/20/2009, 1:22 am EST

Now now. Guess what you can’t stay the same I’m glad they didn’t make another take this to your grave that album is classic. Infinty on high mocks the whole EMO scene if you listen. And yes when u get babyface to produce songs on an album you draw a lil stare. Folie a duex rocks bro Sorry They Grew Up and you want the band from 7 years ago

STOP H8′N

FOB | 5/20/2009, 5:20 pm EST

Fall Out Boy is a disgrace to music. They would be a disgrace to Blink to play in front of them. They suck D.

dizzy | 5/21/2009, 1:14 am EST

guys, i’m a big fan of weezer & blink182, i’d prefer to see them both, i don’t listen fob so much… but why hate so much dat fob’s opening d concert, maybe situations hard for them too 4 reasons we don’t know, we fans also need to understand them, hope for weezer but if not try to accept it, stil support blink for watever they do, let’s not be so complaining. and about the unlikely changes in the new blink182, we need to remember dat we fans r the ones who can help them, making them want to be better by stil supporting them but also showing them wat we don’t like in them, but not by only complaining… let’s be supportive, it’s a very hardwork for them too and we know no one is perfect…

Stay Together For The Kids | 5/21/2009, 5:05 pm EST

blink, Fall Out Boy, All-American Rejects all coming to Atlanta September 29. I live 6 hours away but me and my buddies are gonna drive up. SO FRIGGIN STOKED, blink-182 is my favorite rock band of all time, you dont know how much they have been missed in my life. HOORAY BLINK

angelsblessme | 5/22/2009, 2:58 am EST

blink 182…..i think their reunion is only for money………but i like them as my life.especially travis barker.

KRISTEN | 5/24/2009, 12:19 pm EST

BLINK 182 IS GREAT AND FALL OUT BOY IS ONE OF THE BEST NEW BANDS OUT THERE SO NOT SURE WHAT ALL OF THE NEGATIVITY IS ABOUT. WEEZER IS ANOTHER GREAT CLASSIC BAND AND WOULD BE PRETTY KICK ASS TO SEE LIVE.WILL BE A GREAT SHOW

Neo | 5/25/2009, 12:46 am EST

Ok….Fob has some ok songs but they’re really corny and their lyrics target 13 year old girls…Rivers Cuomo is a great guitar player and Weezer to me is just wayyyy better than fob. Blink is better than both by far, End of story

Theo | 5/26/2009, 7:50 pm EST

I don’t know why everyone is hatin FOB. FOB are an awesome band. Blink…I knew they would eventually get back together, I’m not surprised and I don’t really care. They’re alright but I think everyone needs to move on. For example, I wouldn’t be surprised if they came out playing the same sounding stuff they used to play but FOB don’t. Each of their albums are different. They’ve moved on. Can’t really comment on Weezer as I’m not a follower.

Weeeeeeee. :) | 5/28/2009, 8:08 pm EST

ewww, thank GOD i don’t have to listen to that studio band Fall Out Boy when I go. Taking Back Sundayyy

Ciara | 5/28/2009, 8:18 pm EST

I honestly just want to go for Fall Out Boy and Blink but the concert near cleveland doesnt even involve Fall Out Boy. It sucks. They should include all the bands for all venues! Fall Out boys amazing I saw them in cleveland and columbus. I wish they would have them for all venues. I dont care what you think. I LOVEE Fall Out Boy!!! Their my life, they keep me alive.

kate Mcdonnell | 5/29/2009, 2:20 am EST

God whats with all the abuse on fall out boy.

Fall out boy have actualy sold more records than blink 182.

i love fall out boy :)

Fall Out Boy | 6/5/2009, 5:17 pm EST

It’s appropriate that Blink is playing with Fall Out Boy, they were nothing more than cash whores when they broke up and skipping warped tour to try and make a lot more money makes sense, FOB wasn’t invited to Warped Tour, because it’s not a concert for 13 year old girls.

Jennyffer | 6/6/2009, 10:35 pm EST

Blink 182 are well better than fall out boy tbh.
Screw them .

Amen | 6/20/2009, 7:51 pm EST

Thank you Whaaaat? Blink should totally be opening for Weezer, not the other way around. I’m going to see them on Sept. 4th in Kansas City and I’ll probably leave after Weezer plays. I don’t think Blink 182 sucks, they’re just not my kind of music. Weezer rocks!

FOB sux | 6/23/2009, 6:26 pm EST

i hate fall out boy and when blink comes to minnesota weezer isn’t playing wich i dont know why because blink should be opening for weezer and FOB should be in the croud hitting on 13 year olds

good shit | 6/30/2009, 6:37 pm EST

i dont know why everyone loves weezer. i personally think the blue album is the only decent material theyve ever put out. everything else sucks. to put rivers in the same league as lennon cobain and wilson is an insult to the three just mentioned. blink-182 is my favorite band ever and i think that many ppl in the world are excited about this reunion way more then theyd be excited for a weezer tour as theyve broken up and reformed a few times. Fall out boy is another one of my favorite bands and im stoked to see them on tour with one of their idol bands. screw weezer.

Lydia | 7/1/2009, 6:51 pm EST

I like Fall Out Boy, I like Weezer and i like Blink-182. but i’m hoping to see Fall Out Boy and Blink cuz i’ve heard that Fall Out Boy is great in concert. Plus i’m a big fan. I don’t see what the deal is about everyone hating FOB. sure Pete is a douche bag, but u don’t have to like the people to like their music.

wowww | 7/3/2009, 11:20 pm EST

u guys r such haters….
fall out boy had changed and has become a great band
i havent heard blink 182 but im sure theyre aweseome………….
idk about Weezer………..never heard themmmm……
fall out boy is my fav band…. if people don’t like fall out boy they shouldnt go to the concert seriously

emilystarr, ilovefob! | 7/8/2009, 11:02 am EST

so can someone tell me if fall out boy is coming to kansas city or not??

Joe Trohman(not realy tho)xD | 7/13/2009, 4:24 pm EST

why hate on fob. they’re great. they fit perfectly in the same genre as blink-182. weezer is a little more on the punk side, but their still good too tho.

...what? | 9/7/2009, 8:14 pm EST

Why would they choose fallout out boy… And then Utah doesn’t even get weezer but we get taking back sunday… awesome… (thats sarcasm in case you can’t tell) thanks weezer… I’ve lost a lot of respect for you

Peter | 10/11/2009, 5:15 pm EST

I don’t like fall out boy and i’m not really a big fan of weezer. Notice however, That most of the fans of FOB are girls, because thats they’re target audiance. Blink’s target audiance is simalar, teenagers in general.

However blink play pop-punk and FOB play Emo, so its no suprise that not a lot of people like their music

kylie | 10/15/2009, 10:44 am EST

i love these two bands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!they are the besteven togther
