Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament Injured in Robbery Outside Atlanta Studio

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament was the victim of a violent robbery outside Southern Tracks Recording studios in Atlanta, where the band is recording their ninth studio album with producer Brendan O’Brien. According to a police report, Ament and a band employee pulled up to the rear of the studio on the afternoon of April 27th when three assailants brandishing knives emerged from the woods wearing black masks, gloves and pants. The robbers smashed the windows of a rented Jeep and grabbed a BlackBerry before demanding more money. In total, the pair were robbed of $3,000 in cash and $4,320 worth of goods.

(Click to check out page one and two of the police report.)

The bassist was chased and knocked to the ground, sustaining a head laceration which was treated by EMS. The attackers — who also stole Ament’s passport — escaped into a waiting black Nissan Maxima. The incident was captured on a surveillance camera, but no arrests have been made. Pearl Jam declined to comment on the incident.

In February, Rolling Stone confirmed Pearl Jam were hitting the studio to work on an album they plan to self-release in the States. “The new record feels good so far — really strong and uptempo, stuff we can sink our teeth into,” Eddie Vedder told us. It’s the band’s first album with O’Brien behind the boards since 1998’s Yield.

Pearl Jam are booked to headline both the Outside Lands and Austin City Limits festivals alongside the Beastie Boys and Dave Matthews Band. The band has also confirmed two late-August gigs, one in Toronto and one in Chicago.

Eric | 5/13/2009, 4:59 pm EST

Bri Potter – 3 assailaints weilding knives – like to see you stand your ground. I have a feeling you wouldn’t, but keep up the internet tough guy act, it’s working for ya. =)

D-Town | 5/13/2009, 5:03 pm EST

Guess that scraps any plans for recording their next album in Detroit.

Brodie | 5/13/2009, 5:15 pm EST

Needs a gun, fact’ he needs two! Come back to Montana, Jeff, where the people walk upright and you can feel safe again. What the hell is in Atlanta anyhow that you don’t have up on Blue Mtn?

Mike | 5/13/2009, 5:36 pm EST

Welcome to Atlanta. You think this would have ended differently if they tried to rob Ted Nugent?

mmm? | 5/13/2009, 5:38 pm EST

Why are they recording in Atlanta for God’s Sake?

John | 5/13/2009, 5:38 pm EST

The bigger question is why was he carrying 3k in cash?

Nick Stoll | 5/13/2009, 5:55 pm EST

The purpose of them recording in Atlanta is that it is the home base of producer Brendan O’Brien.

Well... | 5/13/2009, 6:01 pm EST

They were really trying to rob Pearl Jam of their releveancy and talent. But settled for cash and goods since PJ lost both over 10 years ago…

too bad | 5/13/2009, 6:25 pm EST

Too bad this crazy lib believes in gun control.

Ken | 5/13/2009, 6:31 pm EST

Is there anywhere to see the serveillance (sp?) footage?

Yep... | 5/13/2009, 6:33 pm EST

Yep, this is what is great about the internet. Self indulgent, narcissistic idiots comment on how they are so tough, how this stuff is just publicity. Just brilliant how most of the people in this country have de-evolved to such idiots.

Hope Jeff is ok, can’t wait for the new album. Oh, and to the sh*ttard who said PJ lost relevance 10 years ago, well, hey, that’s fine, as long as they aren’t catering to your dumbass needs with some fallout boy pete wentz “music”, or do you prefer creed?

Crooks | 5/13/2009, 6:34 pm EST

They will get caught, especially since it is on tape.
F****** losers, get a job.

Ricky Stevens | 5/13/2009, 6:34 pm EST

“Well…” Aren’t you just a clever young thing. Just like the rest of the tough guys here, who hide behind the computers and comment about Pearl Jam is nothing or being robbed is no big deal. I better watch out for tough guys like you huh?

Anonymous | 5/13/2009, 6:35 pm EST

It was the reformed Creed tryin to take out the kings.

Wrong | 5/13/2009, 6:38 pm EST

go to east l.a., it’s safe over there man!

Jerry Jarvela | 5/13/2009, 6:57 pm EST

Does Jeff’s dad know about this?

to Anonymous | 5/13/2009, 7:05 pm EST

All Pearl Jam needs for publicity for the new album is the fact that they are Pearl Jam. They would never pull some shit like this on purpose; What are they, Janet Jackson?

Fucking dolt.

Hope Jeff gets better.

to Anonymous | 5/13/2009, 7:07 pm EST

That comment was for the first ‘Anonymous’, no the second ‘Anonymous’ who’s talking about Creed… who may very well be on to something…

Reuben | 5/13/2009, 7:08 pm EST

Half of the people commenting here are have to be some of the biggest jackasses that I have ever had the displeasure of associating myself with.

eddielees@yahoo.com | 5/13/2009, 7:09 pm EST

Maybe he should learn karate. “It makes ma think of kaaraateee..” And Eddie can write a song about it. At Gun Point, Jeremy Spoken Part 2

Dave Abbruzzese | 5/13/2009, 7:22 pm EST

Too bad it was Jeff. Can we just stuff Eddie full of money and have him loiter outside?

Dave | 5/13/2009, 7:41 pm EST

Well it is Atlanta, it may as well be Memphis. I hope this shows bands that it is not a good place to do business!

WALK TALL | 5/13/2009, 7:42 pm EST

I would have kicked the three losers ass’ !

Tels | 5/13/2009, 7:43 pm EST

amy b. | 5/13/2009, 8:24 pm EST

Love Jeff… Hope he’s ok. And to all the idiots with the negative comments, hopefully karma doesn’t find you one night. You may not get the chance to run…

Drinkslinger77 | 5/13/2009, 8:26 pm EST

What the fuck is up with all the haters out there. All the fuckers who think that Jeff got what he deserved and that it’s some kinda publicity stunt……Are you fucking joking me?! Listen, I’m not the biggest Pearl Jam fan in the world (far from it, actually, but they have major talent and staying power)- who the hell are you loser haters listening to?

godsdice | 5/13/2009, 9:04 pm EST

why wont anyone publish a description of the ass-ailants? Yes they wore black and yes they wore masks, but unless they were wearing gloves and had necks covered, i demand more description!

Nathan | 5/13/2009, 9:19 pm EST

Close call Jeff. I’m very glad you’re all right.

Bass Player | 5/13/2009, 9:28 pm EST

I live in Atlanta and know that part of town well…not the best place to have one of the best recording studios reside. Seems like after 2005 the scum of New Orleans came to Atlanta and Houston and never left. They’re now breeding with the scum we already had here.

suissebro | 5/13/2009, 9:44 pm EST

America is the land of f***edups. Move to swiss Jeff, it’s much more civilized here. At leat we’ll rob you through your bank accounts, not by stabbing you on the streets

Frankie | 5/13/2009, 9:49 pm EST

the robbers were wearing PANTS?!!
I can’t believe it…

PJlover | 5/13/2009, 10:19 pm EST

The last album sucked….whatever ..one of their best yet…hope Jeff is ok and they get the guys that did this.

Haha | 5/13/2009, 11:00 pm EST

Punk ass got what he deserved, get some talent or stay out of Atlanta!

THOM Y | 5/13/2009, 11:05 pm EST

First off, I hope Jeff is ok. Second, why are readers surprised he had $3000 cash on him? He’s a wealthy, successful musician. Why wouldn’t he carry a few grand on him? This is a sad story. Our prayers are with you Jeff. Nevermind the haters on this site. They’re probably ignorant Creed fans who have nothing better to do than write crap on blogs.

Haha | 5/13/2009, 11:10 pm EST

Punk got exactly what he deserved, get some talent or stay out of Atlanta!

Texas Kingpin | 5/13/2009, 11:36 pm EST

Jeff man, i love you and your band but for fuck sake man! Carry some heat! Now you know what all those second amendment folks are trying to say.

Hope you’re ok!

StiGuy | 5/13/2009, 11:54 pm EST

I love Pearl Jam and I pray he is ok. But seriously, why did he have that much cash on him? I mean, those robbers hit the jackpot. Does this all seem a little too coincindental? Is it possible theese criminals were aware of his money situation? Or maybe they knew it was pearl jam and just figured they were fuckin’ loaded. Regardless, thats way too much cash to be carrying. I hope he is ok.

Anonymous | 5/14/2009, 12:33 am EST

Hope your ok jeff. To the people who say he deserved the beating are no class animals who belong in Atlanta. Toothless trash. Jeff, carry an ATM card man and have a bodyguard with you. Better yet, bring Boom with you. That guys a monster. haha. Feel better Jeff!!!

Topher | 5/14/2009, 12:53 am EST

Hey jeff, glad you’re ok. Those assholes will get what’s coming to em. Hopefully a hot beef injection from Bubba.

Kbilly | 5/14/2009, 1:03 am EST

Love the poster who says get some talent or stay out of Atlanta. Not sure how that makes sense Because Jeff is an incredible bassist for one of the best american rock bands of all time and you’re some anonymous prick posting on a website. Fuck you “haha” and fuck the idiot lowlifes who can’t make their own money, and feel the need to steal it from people who’ve actually done something with their life.

thwipp89 | 5/14/2009, 1:12 am EST

newsflash- rich people carry around a few thousand, like it’s nothing…because 3 grand to them is like $30 to you and me. sounds like it was an inside job. they knew who, when and where to jump ament. he’s lucky they weren’t packing heat and shot him.

Sandro Graca | 5/14/2009, 3:03 am EST

hey Jeff
hope you’re well
don’t mind the stupid comments of the selfish people that are jealous because you made your life worthy – obviously they haven’t…

Anyway, get well soon! Hopefully those robbers will get what they deserve
Keep rockin’ in a free world!

Slatz | 5/14/2009, 3:40 am EST

its not that jeff had 3 grand on cash in his possession cause he didnt have 4320 worth of instruments in his back pocket either, it just means thats what was robbed fullstop

Anonymous | 5/14/2009, 3:47 am EST

So much for Pearl Jam playing the south

Human Being | 5/14/2009, 4:22 am EST

All f**king idiots posting about the cash he had on him or even dumber things like “this is publicity for the new album” can STFU! Some guy got mugged and beaten. It’s not right. No one deserves that, regardless of what music you like (I’m talking to you “Haha”).

I hope Jeff’s ok. He’s one of my top 3 bassists of all time I hope to see him back at full strength (very) soon!

dedph1sh | 5/14/2009, 7:40 am EST

Fuck ATL!

PhillyJammer | 5/14/2009, 8:31 am EST

I hope Jeff is okay and is ready to rock out again this summer. Anyone else think it’s strange that the incident is being reported 3 weeks after it occurred?

versedandvested | 5/14/2009, 9:18 am EST

there is absolutely no reason on earth to carry around 3000 dollars in any developed country in the world anymore.

No one deserves to be robbed, but have a little commmon sense.

And here I thought the only people who carried around thousands in cash were drug dealers, pimps, and my girlfriend’s dad.

versedandvested | 5/14/2009, 9:21 am EST

boy, debit and credit cards must really lack that “rock-star” cool.

Yo | 5/14/2009, 9:36 am EST

Hey jeff get well Dude……. Hope they get those assholes that did this to you…… Peace

Banjo | 5/14/2009, 9:36 am EST

what, no shirts? what kind of robbers are these?!

Redemption | 5/14/2009, 9:46 am EST

Get better soon, Jeff.

For all those haters out there…….This isn’t Creed or any Punk Ass Rapper who needs to throw themselves in the headlines to get publicity to sell records. This is Pearl Jam, the band that lets the music do the talking. Get a fucking life.

elvis yolkum | 5/14/2009, 9:48 am EST

If he was not such a lib he would have had a gun. he had a chance to rid the world of those ass jacks. but he ran away….. To bad George Bush was not there to save him

Rabbitbunny | 5/14/2009, 9:50 am EST

Jeff,I hope you’re OK-what the hoodlums did to you was not cool. My heart and prayers go out to you and the rest of Pearl Jam-who are the best-dare Isay it-classic rock

That’s scary.
Hope you’re okay, Jeff… :(

NCR | 5/14/2009, 11:23 am EST

I live in Atlanta. Wish this event would clean up some of the scum on our streets. What a bunch of fckn thugs this city has got. But I gotta believe that it was an ‘inside’ job somehow.

mark | 5/14/2009, 11:28 am EST

Thats funny how it is Jeff’s fault because he was carrying cash. Wouldn’t he have still got jacked? I guess when an attractive women gets assaulted or raped it is their fault for looking good. I am gonna guess all you smart asses like that Nickelback song about having something in your mouth. BTW you Pearl Jam haters don’t know what’s up

MB | 5/14/2009, 12:20 pm EST

First off Pearl Jams last album was really good! Also for those who are saying this is a publicity stunt im sorry but Pearl Jam is the last band on Earth to pull a publicity stunt! They dont need to because they are that good and have loyal followers unlike the junk you listen to today who most likely need a publicity stunt to sell more records. Go listen to your money cash whatever or your emo and leave PJ alone!

tom | 5/14/2009, 1:13 pm EST

Scott Stapp and his followers did it..

blix | 5/14/2009, 1:56 pm EST

Maybe the thug was trying to tell Jeff his band has blown chunks since O’Brien has been producing their stuff.

Frank | 5/14/2009, 3:59 pm EST

You should have hit him with your rearview mirror.

JC | 5/14/2009, 4:14 pm EST

Atlanta is a hell-hole. Sorry to hear about this.

Drewdog21 | 5/14/2009, 4:19 pm EST

Too bad the rest of the band wasn’t there to kick those guys’ asses!!
Be well, Jeff Ament!!

D | 5/14/2009, 4:50 pm EST

DAM!!! I glad Jeff is o.k. and the situation wasn’t worst. But to most of you saying the last CD was worst must have clog ears. That album was great and one of the last decent rock albums in years. So back off. Again Jeff, get well.

Jabron | 5/14/2009, 5:42 pm EST

“Mike | 5/13/2009, 5:36 pm EST

Welcome to Atlanta. You think this would have ended differently if they tried to rob Ted Nugent?”

Yes. they would have left with $3 and a can of Aqua Net instead of $3,000.

Drewdog21 | 5/14/2009, 5:53 pm EST

Have you ever heard the sound a guitar makes when it hits someone in the head? Wish Jeff had been packin’ his bass. Then Brendan O’Brien could have recorded it and put it on the next Pearl Jam album. That would have been sweet!! Fuckin’ punk-ass ATL thugs!!
Again, be well, Jeff!

Keith From Seattle | 5/14/2009, 6:25 pm EST

Hope you are well Jeff. Can’t wait for the new album, we miss you here.

ZombieAnts | 5/14/2009, 7:22 pm EST

Shut the hell up v and v. Just ’cause you don’t have any money…

hey "dave abbruzzese" | 5/14/2009, 8:34 pm EST

you should be happy it was jeff. he hates you and acknowledged that in an ESPN.com feature last year.

SID | 5/14/2009, 10:05 pm EST

If Jeff had had a gun, the Robbers would just have stolen that too.
Then THEY would have a gun now, as well as his passport, $3000 and gear. People forget that “armed robbers” GET armed because they have ROBBED someone who bought their weapon legally.

Jeff Amett had just made a run to the local music store, stocking up on new gear to record with. THAT’S why he had so much money on him. No he wasn’t showing off, he was just shopping. Yes, he should have used a credit card, but he didn’t. Ok? Ok.

Jeff Amant’s a good guy. Never hurt anyone in his life. Just wants to rock out and do good. Doesn’t deserve this.

Those fucking assholes.

Feel better soon, Jeff

endbadguy | 5/14/2009, 10:17 pm EST

Get well Jeff, look forward to the new album, be an interesting follow up to the solo album ventures and the avocado! Looking foward

FoolMoon | 5/14/2009, 10:38 pm EST

Everyone saying that this is a publicity stunt for the new album is completely high. The new album won’t be coming out until at least early 2010. No one will even remember this…you’ll all move on to the next story…get well Jeff.

Peace brother Jerome Watkins | 5/14/2009, 10:56 pm EST

I would be glad to work Security for the Band, Aint nobody gona Mess with “Brutha J”, here, can you all dig wut “Brutha J”, is tellin y’all, I’m 6′2” & weigh 295, and built like iron, so y’all let me handle it, they see e, & them dudes aint comin back, and that’s the bottom line cause “Brutha J” says so!!!

Anonymous | 5/15/2009, 12:16 am EST

j | 5/15/2009, 8:46 am EST

any security on this studio?

It is in Atlanta and they have successful people coming into this place. If he had a gun and started to fire, then he would have to be in court or worse.

Some Trout | 5/15/2009, 12:23 pm EST

I’m appalled. State of Love and Trust boys. Take your recording back to Seattle or a city with less crime and brighter community. Atlanta sucks.

greg | 5/15/2009, 12:57 pm EST

If these one-hit wonders had given up recording instead of making 5,000 live albums and believing they still had talent, this wouldn’t have happened. Besides, it’s not the fault of the robbers. It’s Obama’s fault for the shitty economy.

Mick | 5/15/2009, 1:24 pm EST

People can talk all they want. Most people are jealous that Pearl Jam is the greatest American Band in 20 years and they have an incredible fan base that they take great care. The violent negative people on here don’t get it because that’s not what we are all about. You’re all probably a bunch of Republican hate mongers. I don’t wish bad stuff on anybody. You truly are pathetic people.

Hello guys, this is Duff, ex Gunner and Ex Velvet Revolverer. It was me. I robbed Jeff. THe thing is, I was always envious of his bass skills. I was after all a DRUMMER before I turned to bass. I just want to borrow his bass and see if any of his playing chops rub off. Ok, bye for now, got to go and write some second rate finance column for a limp pornography mag.

drewdog21 | 5/15/2009, 4:38 pm EST

“greg”, you’re an idiot. “One-hit wonders”?? God, you’re a fuckin’ idiot you are!! When their debut album “Ten” came out, it had at least THREE Top 10 hits!! “Alive”, “Even Flow” and “Jeremy”. Fuckin’-A, memories are short!! Do you even remember grunge at all?? No, you probably don’t because you were in fuckin’ diapers suckin’ on your mama’s titties.
Goddamn, I’m so sick of you wanna-be thugs and you Disney Channel idiots who wouldn’t know good music if it shot you in the ass with an AK-47!!
Pearl Jam will live on longer than any of your flavor-of-the-month shitty pop music, or all of your rap-crap that all just sounds like the same last rap-crap song that came out five minutes ago!!

YOU ALL SUCK AND I’M OUT!!! PEACE BE WITH YOU, JEFF AMENT!!

Jon | 5/15/2009, 4:46 pm EST

To the person who said that Pearl Jam is a one hit wonder…have you ever actually listened to any of their material, or seen their total album sales?

I hope Jeff turns out alright, and that they actually find the people that did this to him. I still find it strange that they stole his passport too…

DAZ | 5/15/2009, 4:49 pm EST

While I hate to see anyone become the victim of a crime (especially a crime against a person, and not just property), there is a certain sense of irony when that victim is a liberal advocate for social justice. As Frank Rizzo famously said…”a conservative is a liberal who was mugged the night before.” Plus, this is just a few guys spreading the wealth before President Obama and Congress have a chance to do it officially…

Anonymous | 5/15/2009, 5:20 pm EST

The whole point of my earlier point was to put blame on the victim and the current president, instead of where it belongs–on the perps…just like Ament & Co and the left in general like to do.

And by One Hit I mean the album 10.

But don’t take my word for it. “The Nation” columnist and uber-leftwing liberal and self-professed music critic Eric Alterman described Pearl Jam as a O.H.W., too.

For the record, I like their one hit (Ten) and I hope Jeff makes a full recovery and I hope him nothing but the best.

I hope the thugs who did this are caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

And I hope Jeff and the rest of you leftists wake up and realize that these thugs, along with Bernie Madoff are nothing compared to what Obama’s policies are going to do you.

Go to nrtw.org and see what’s in store for workers who refuse to vote “yes” to unions or who cross union picket lines. Google Glenn Dale Yeatts or Roderick Carter and see how what happened to Ament was nothing compared to what Big Labor has in store.

Obama–One Big Ass Mistake America

Greg out.

Drewdog21 | 5/15/2009, 5:32 pm EST

More idiotic comments. Pearl Jam have more than a “one-hit wonder” album. A lot of like to think they have EIGHT great hit albums!! In succession, they are “Ten”, “Vs.”, “Vitalogy”, “No Code”, “Yield”, “Binaural”, “Riot Act” and the newly self-titled “Pearl Jam”. Many of us like these albums and the great music Pearl Jam still makes and will continue to make long after everyone forgets about 50 Cent and Miley Cyrus.

Anonymous | 5/15/2009, 6:22 pm EST

Sorry Drewdog your wrong rollingstone never gets tired of promoting garbage like Miley Cyrus and 50 Cent.

you clowns | 5/15/2009, 7:42 pm EST

PJ should come to live in South America, where no “american” idiots are found (¿is there another country in the world who call themselves like an entire continent?). these kind of stupid comments demonstrate why the entire world laughs at you.

Kate | 5/15/2009, 7:47 pm EST

DREWDOG21… I LOVE YOU!
and “greg” this isn’t political u idiot!

Pearl Jam ROCKS!!! And if Jeff HAD hit the guy… he could have broke a finger, ANYTHING, and it would have turned out way worse! Bassisits in an awesome band aren’t gonna risk their career (and their bandmates) to save a few bucks! get real! he did the best thing he could in a violent situation! I LOVE YOU JEFF… GET BETTER SOON!!!!!!! :)

mATTERgOD | 5/15/2009, 8:16 pm EST

Despite the ignorant trolls who have posted to this thread, no one deserves this type of situation to occur in their lives.

Jeff will be fine and his life will continue to be good. It is a shame that our country has expanding areas that mirror this.

Furthermore, PJ is relevant and has no need to address any naysayers. It is really simple, they make music that represents them and relates to people who appreciate their contributions. No one else has to approve their work.

Lastly, those who committed this crime will be brought to justice. Be it directly or indirectly, their lifestyles dictate it. Ignorance always finishes last in the long run.

mATTERgOD | 5/15/2009, 8:20 pm EST

Couldn’t resist one more post…albiet a humerous slant.

Thank God no one got Ed and his beloved notebook. They’d have had hell to pay!

suissebro | 5/15/2009, 8:31 pm EST

Americans are real idiots indeed. One fine bass player got robbed by some wankers, and they blame their black president! Hahaha. And somehowe they still don’t get it why the rest of the world are laughing at them….ROTFL

stinkwater | 5/15/2009, 9:08 pm EST

to the first guy who said thank god they didnt get Ed! screw you pal!!! to bad they didnt get you! JERKY!!! It wouldnt be Pj without any of them!!! period!!!!!

Neubian | 5/15/2009, 9:40 pm EST

You know, a “Glorified Version of a Pellet Gun” would have saved Jeff’s cash and some of his blood. I live about 30 minutes from that studio, and my 357 goes with me everywhere in this town. Jeff, Eddie, and crew — those were products of the liberal policy you so vigorously champion. It’s your bed. Sleep in it.

J. Wadd | 5/15/2009, 11:00 pm EST

“Last Kiss” was their biggest hit, in 1999. They’ve done pretty well for a band that only produced one music video in 20 years.

Pearl Jam was instrumental in the election of Senator Tester, from Jeff’s hometown of Big Sandy, MT. Tester is a full-on gun nut, 100% NRA-approved. And a Democrat. They actually need guns on the ranch where Jeff grew up.

Hope you get better, Jeff.

Matt | 5/15/2009, 11:46 pm EST

Be well, Jeff.

And I doubt anyone, including myself, posting comments has any clue what it’s like to have the kind of success, fame, and public profile as someone like Ament. Additionally, I also strongly doubt that the people here have ever been mugged, had knives pointed at them, or had their head lacerated. What was Ament’s alternative to running? Stay trapped in the car with three men able to come at him with knives on either side and from behind? He was already out of the car when they attacked and he did the smartest thing possible.

Why make fun of someone like that? All the man wants to do is lead a purpose driven life of rock n roll, making art, helping others, and getting busy with a very pretty lady.

I doubt any of you have the sack to live the kind of life he’s led to this point. Instead, you remain anonymous pussies posting pathetic jokes and digs about someone you’ve never met or know anything about.

Mike | 5/16/2009, 12:04 am EST

SID—that’s just about the dumbest thing I’ve read in a long time. People aren’t strong arm robbed of their gun while HOLDING IT. Weapons are stolen in burglaries. More than likely, if Jeff or someone in his party had a gun, the thugs would have fled. Gun trumps knife.

Peace brother Jerome Watkins | 5/16/2009, 12:36 am EST

Hey, you all lsten up NOW, when “Brutha J” speaks!
I am a ig dude, & I am offering my services to PJ, as Director of Security & International Relations. Them robbers would have had no chance, had I been there, can you dig wut Brutha J is sayin here,
I do’t give a damm about their music, I have a job to do, & I need to get paid.
I am a Proud black Man, making an honestliving, unlike a lot of you dudes here on the Blog, so that’s my message, & I expect to hear back from this guy Arment, right here, so I can forward my contact information.
that’s it for now, you’re all dismissed, so get the hell out of here right now

dtrod | 5/16/2009, 3:22 pm EST

I love PJ to death, and no one deserves this… BUT it’s always interesting to me to see someone who advocates taking guns out of the hands of HONEST citizens learns first-hand why that’s a bad idea: criminals don’t care about gun laws! The only one who gets hurt is the honest musician trying to carry his stuff into the studio, or the graveyard shift worker coming home late at night in a shady neighborhood.

Thank God he’s alive. Time to rethink the liberalism, Jeff…

Peter | 5/16/2009, 4:12 pm EST

What the fuck?

Someone gets robbed and beaten up and it’s because he doesn’t have a concealed weapons permit and believes certain things about carrying guns?

And the stupefying ignorance of that perspective is tempered by some variation of “I love PJ to death, but…”?

I’m sure you all would have shot at least one of them over some pocket cash and music gear, pulled out your harmonicas, and started playing “Man with Harmonica.” Or, if they fled upon seeing your piece, you’d tell all your friends, who already know you’re such a huge badass and so fearless that you carry a gun, that nobody fucks with you.

Then you’d get on RS and say you hope Jeff’s learned his lesson.

ragnarus | 5/16/2009, 4:22 pm EST

get well soon jeff. wanna see you and the other guys in berlin in august.

VirgoLibra | 5/16/2009, 8:34 pm EST

all you people dissing pearl jam and taking sadistic pleasure in a good guy getting screwed over are probably sad that t.i. is in jail. real men dont need weapons or friends, they fight one on one with their fists but this new generation has no concept of these types of thinking because they are brainwashed by media companies into thinking they are all hardcore gangstas, well i got news for you the government is gangsta :P

Carrie | 5/16/2009, 8:37 pm EST

This is publicity for the new Pearl Jam CD. Watch the video. It’s obvious. Don’t take the bait kids…

Maria | 5/16/2009, 8:39 pm EST

Looks like an inside job to me. I would fire the guy driving the jeep Jeff. You need new staff around you.

Anonymous | 5/17/2009, 3:26 am EST

fuck creed. they did it.

Mike | 5/17/2009, 6:10 am EST

He didn’t get attacked because of what he believes or preaches re: guns. It’s just kind of fitting that someone in a band who sold t-shirts that advocated gun control was the victim of THUGS WITH KNIVES. LOL.

anna | 5/17/2009, 6:28 am EST

love you jeff se you on tour in europe. PJ the best band in the world.

Diego | 5/17/2009, 3:15 pm EST

Pearl Jam is the only band with the balls to say what they believe in, and the integrity to act on it. Carrying a gun wouldn’t have helped Jeff out, it would’ve made things worse. If u want a real solution, fix the economy. Oh yeah, Bush already fixed the economy. 8 years of “fixed” economy.

hank | 5/17/2009, 3:26 pm EST

Love pearl jam, but, Jeff needs to take advantage of our “contitutional” right to protect ourselves, instead of focusing on taking that “freedom” away from the rest of us. Guns always win at knife fights.

Peace Brother Jerome Watkins | 5/17/2009, 3:49 pm EST

I am a Proud Black Man, that being said, -keep your racist comments to yourselves, regarding the Jeff Arment Incident, if not, I will see you in Court -’Brutha J”

Brendan | 5/17/2009, 4:55 pm EST

i don’t see any mention of this at pearl jam’s official forum. just millions of threads plugging products and their new Rock Band Pearl Jam Live game. if Pearl Jam of 94′ look at what they become, they’d think people were joking.

people are dumb | 5/17/2009, 7:26 pm EST

GUNS RULE! YEAH!

Anonymous | 5/17/2009, 9:26 pm EST

Whoever attacks a member of Pearl Jam should be shot in the face.

Officier Dudley | 5/17/2009, 11:10 pm EST

“snatched”

Nice casenotes, very professional in all CAPS as well.

Anonymous | 5/18/2009, 4:16 am EST

Guns, knives, bats, sticks, stones or fists. It doesnt matter…this kind of shit happens to thousands of people(globaly)everyday. We should all be ashamed that humans would do something like this to each other, stop thinking your being clever by makng smart-arsed comments at the expense of others misfortune. PJ make music, why dont you time wasters focus on that.

noise | 5/18/2009, 10:57 am EST

i love the comment about how he’s wealthy and successful enough to carry around “a few grand” on him.

wtf is he gonna go out and buy? nobody should carry that much… seriously… $3000 cash. get a check book if you plan on spending that much money.

…in fucking atlanta.

he kinda deserves that i guess. it sucks, dont get me wrong. but he didnt get seriously injured or anything. hell be fine, album will come out fine, haters will still have sand in their vaginas.

Hammersmith77 | 5/18/2009, 2:42 pm EST

Pearl Jam is the best band of the last 20 years. Go see them live, then bow down. Frank Rizzo was a scumbag.

Tommy | 5/18/2009, 7:10 pm EST

I just “stumbled” across this on the web. Who gives a rat’s rear end to what happened to Jeff, and why this is creating so much news? Just because this guy is a rock star doesn’t make him anything special. I work with carpenters, plumbers and electricians who are more highly skilled in what they do than he is!

Reeferchief | 5/19/2009, 8:01 am EST

Peace and love y’all, new album is gonna be cool, and as for the people who are hating here, why dont ya get back to worshiping the pop idol or whatever it is you love. Life’s too short to hate.

pınar kayış | 5/19/2009, 5:05 pm EST

I’m really sorry this happen is so bad we know everywhere is not safe alright how are we live in this world, who is know a safety place???whoo answerr

Now noww in the world we are in the deep we can’t save we wait a hand a person But actually this person is ourself we have to do lots of things…

Jeff care of you and Eddie we will meet.

dtrod | 5/19/2009, 8:53 pm EST

To Peter: It’s “stupefying ignorance” to believe that concealed weapons deter or stop crimes from happening? That’s weird, because the number of crimes that are prevented each year from someone simply brandishing (or using) their guns in self-defense is huge. But you wouldn’t know that because to you anyone who carries a weapon is somehow trying to prove they’re a tough guy and you only watch Michael Moore movies.

I’m sorry it upsets you a conservative likes PJ’s music. Who’s open minded and who’s ignorant again?

obs | 5/20/2009, 1:49 am EST

I lived two floors below Jeff Ament in an co-op in Seattle for about five years. We have both moved on, but I got to know him slightly — I say slightly because although we were neighbors he tended toward paranoia a little, and was very quiet, generally. But he was always down to earth, and didn’t flaunt his money or his fame — for cryin’ out loud it was a little coop in seattle, right? And so it’s a shame to see these silly comments here, many of which are obviously written from a point of view of what I suppose is jealousy. It’s easy to hate the famous. Thing is, they really are just people, and Ament, from what I could see over the years, is a pretty regular guy… and not deserved of any malice like that which we see above…

Stand my ground | 5/20/2009, 2:04 am EST

I would have stood my ground – I would have stayed in the vehicle, upholstered my GLOCK 22, and I would have started to fire if they opened a door or broke any windows. Situation over…quickly.

Stand my ground | 5/20/2009, 2:08 am EST

One more thing – if Ament actually fights against gun rights then he got exactly what he deserved. Just run away they all say, right? He is just lucky that these guys didn’t take that as a sign of disrespect and kill him for trying to get away with “their” money. Carrying a firearm has nothing to do with being tough, it has to do with being smart and taking your responsibility to protect yourself seriously.

Brian Papenfuss | 5/21/2009, 3:39 am EST

WoW. Funny how all the jackasses who say shit about “if he had a gun” or “he had too much money,” blah blah blah -as if it makes it ok to be robbed- but they can’t even leave their names?? Fucking pussies!!! Why blame Jeff? He was the victim. Oh it’s because you’re using this as a way to punish somebody who stands for something you don’t; gun control. I’m not a PJ fan, but I support people who try to improve the world with their success rather than stockpile arms to protect their coffers. He doesn’t give a shit that he’s out 3 grand- dudes a millionaire, he’s probably upset that somebody is desperate and confussed enough to think that money will solve their problems and willing to harm another human to get it. Talentless cowards they are. A coward carries a gun. A brave person counts only on themselves and their community for the solutions to their problems.

dtrod | 5/22/2009, 5:32 pm EST

“A coward carries a gun. A brave person counts only on themselves and their community for the solutions to their problems.”

What does that mean? I suppose if I was in the Matrix I could stop a mugger’s bullet with my hand, or bend his knife with my mind…

I’m glad you advocate allowing thugs to dictate whether someone lives or dies during a robbery. The number of crimes prevented every year from someone using their weapon for self-defense is huge. But hey, I guess they’re all “cowards.” You rock, dude.

PUBLICITY STUNT?? | 6/3/2009, 6:18 pm EST

NOT BUYING IT. THIS LOOKS STAGED!!! WHAT A FAKE. THIS PUNK IS A RICH YUPPIE WITH BAD COTHES. WELCOME TO ATLANTA BITCH. THEY TOOK MY PASPORT? WAAAAA!!!

THIS LOOKS FAKE | 6/3/2009, 6:27 pm EST

HA THEY SHOULD’VE SHOT HIM IN THE FACE ALONG WITH HIS 3 FOOT TALL LITTLE BITCH “CH…EDDIE” LOL. BUY SOME REAL MUSIC PEOPLE.

PJ | 6/5/2009, 2:36 pm EST

Wow, so many fucking idiots commenting on this news. Seriously, all those who say Jeff deserved it (for whatever idiotic reason you come up with)…I’d like to see that happen to you and see how you feel afterward. Anyone who needs a weapon is a coward. Period. Work on your self-esteem and insecurities…or knife yourself instead. The comments on this forum is very indicative of the ignorance of this society. Very, very sad. Glad Jeff’s alright.
Antlers instead of guns…

huber | 6/18/2009, 3:47 pm EST

When A band this big makes headlines it brings idiots out from under writting garbage about a great band. From the Jim guy to to Anonyous, I read one sentence of your crap and when I see hate I look on, I have no time for fools. Pearl Jam will be forever and ever remembered as a great band. The album TEN is in the top 25 of best albums in the histrory, so all you unpaid critics out there, go toss a baseball with your kid instead of acting like a fool on here

Pam | 6/20/2009, 4:15 pm EST

Jeff is my cousin and I am appalled by some of the comments on this site. No one ever knows how one will react in a situation until in that situation, so to criticize a person’s reaction is asinine. Jeff comes from a family that lived in a small town in Montana, they are lovely down to earth people. You don’t have to like someone’s music or approach to life to have empathy for a bad situation. People like alot of you who have commented in a negative vein are the reason our world is such a mess today. I hope and pray that when something bad happens in your life that you will not have to face such ugliness. Peace comes with compassion for all people, not just those whose music, politics, religion, color, etc. are in line with our own. I will continue to pray for enlightenment and peace for all of you with such a negative view of life and people.

Matt Mac | 6/23/2009, 3:08 am EST

@Stand My Ground:

“upholstered my GLOCK 22″

Where do you hang the curtains on a Glock 22, you moron?

Phil Stiles | 7/11/2009, 8:55 am EST

It is both disgusting and sad that certain people on this site feel it is acceptable to wish harm upon a man who has done nothing but share his love of music and voice an opinion on politics. You don’t have to like PJ, or agree with his stance on gun control – having different opinions is a mark of a civilised society – but to state that you wish he’d been injured because you don’t like his music or his politics is thoroughly uncivilised. As for the gentleman who is going to ‘upholster’ his Glock, well, he clearly doesn’t need me to point out his intellectual deficiencies. To all the people who stood up for Jeff, irrespective of whether you like his music, you have my respect, to those who made the negative comments, you might want to stop and consider how you would feel if one of your loved ones was involved in a similar incident before you make any such ignorant assertions in the future.

Maybe this event can inspire them to actually write a good song. It’s been ten years guys, cmon!
