Depeche Mode have issued a statement announcing that it was a “severe bout of gastroenteritis” that sent lead singer Dave Gahan to the hospital yesterday. Gahan’s illness forced the band to cancel their concert in Athens, Greece. Additionally, the illness will also prevent Depeche Mode from performing tomorrow night, May 14th, in Istanbul. As of right now, the band’s May 16th gig in Bucharest is still on their schedule.

“Dave fell ill with a severe bout of gastroenteritis shortly before he was due onstage in Athens which resulted in his immediate hospitalization,” the band said in a statement. “At this stage, Dave’s primary concern is to return to full health and resume the tour as soon as possible.” Fans in both cities are being asked to hold onto their tickets as the concerts will either be rescheduled or canceled.

Depeche Mode are currently on tour to promote their new album Sounds of the Universe. After shutting down Hollywood Blvd. with their performance for the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show in April, the new wave band will return to North America in July for a series of dates. Depeche are also among the headliners for this year’s Lollapalooza festival this August in Chicago.

Dave, Martin and Andrew, we all love you. Get well soon and please re-schedule your Athens concert some time during the year or at the end of your tour. Try and arrange it with other organisers and play at the Olympic Stadium, since DidiMusic are by far the worst cons to deal with.

Unfortunately, the Terra Vibe (Athens) concert went “Wrong”, because around 30.000 people drove all the way to the Terra Vibe Park (40km from Athens), just to be informed that lead singer Dave Gahan got ill and the concert couldn’t take place.
The problem is not the illness of Dave and I think all the fans like to see him well again. The unacceptable and “Wrong” time of announcing the illness is what drives everybody crazy.
People took absent leave from their jobs, came from all over Greece, drove for hours etc. and that’s where the organizing company of this concert failed.
I’m sure the band didn’t want any of this to happen and are already planing a new date to perform in Athens.
I saw on the official DM web-site that the “Tour Of The Universe” has a full schedule, but it’s up to you, to give something back to all your fans in Athens.
All the “Wrongs” can be undone and we are sure that Depeche Mode are a huge band and will erase all the unpleasantness that the people feel.
We all hope to see you well, live and kicking!
Have a great tour and don’t forget to stop in Athens!

eva | 5/15/2009, 12:13 pm EST

DAve everyone wish you well.Hope that DM will reschedule shortly. But please as far as ATHENS concert do not deal with Di Di music they bahaved to the athens DM fans with a great disrespect, they were checking peoople at TERRA VIBE eventhough you were hospitalized, THE TERRA VIBE manager was checking people in and not only that they were making sure to sell even more tickets to DM fans eventhough they knew that D. GAHAN was hospitalized.ATHENS DiDI music organizers, Terra Vibe organizers misled us. Do not trust them .Respect your fans.Next time do your concerts in the Olympic Stadium. which we are proud of and not at that Terra Vibe arena which is chaos of JERK MANAGERS.I am sure they did not care care about Gahan’s illness but how to mislead the Athenians to buy more tkts.Hope you are OK and don’t led anymore fans all over Europe

MASTER BATORS | 5/22/2009, 1:31 pm EST

Let’s face it, the new album stinks, these guys are over, and Marty is forcing Gahan to go out and sing “Personal Jesus” and “Enjoy The Silence” 100,000 times and Dave must HATE doing that stuff by now. Marty is only interested in money, something Gahan himself has said in interviews many, many times. So, unable to face this awful, mammoth tour, Gahan is looking for an escape. And what is his preferred form of escape? Drugs? DOH!

People who like Chris are boring.
They generaly never do Rock on Idol because no one can do it. Its funny how Adam Lambert could do everything and then killed it on rock night. Most of the people who watch and go to Idol are young girls who don’t understand music. That was the majority vote and that’s why boring Chris won.
Adam is exiting and spontaneous.
Chris is boring and sounds like someone you would see at a RSL club. Adam was more or less the front man for Kiss and boring Chris played with dumb Keith Urban.
What does that tell you!

Loving Dave Regardless | 5/23/2009, 12:29 am EST

August 2009 – Chula Vista, Hollywood then Anaheim! I’m waiting and I’m sure he’ll show up………

Mary | 5/30/2009, 5:00 pm EST

What the hell went wrong?
Adam Lambert is the winner of American Idol. I know now that the show is rigged…because there is no-way Kris Allen should have won, he is boring and can’t rock. I will never watch the show again…especiallyif Simon leaves. Simon makes the show enjoyable, because he’s honest about all contestants.
