Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction Launch NIN/JA in Florida

Everyone, check your copies of Ritual de lo Habitual: Somewhere, there’s a Dorian Gray-esque portrait of Jane’s Addiction that shows the band members losing their hair and growing paunches. Onstage Friday night in West Palm Beach at the first night of the NIN/JA tour — Jane’s reunion, Nine Inch Nails‘ swan song — the four band members looked a lot like their 1990 selves. Give or take a couple clumsy spills across the Cruzan Amphitheatre stage (maybe those knees don’t work quite like they used to, or maybe it was the bottle of wine he was swigging), singer Perry Farrell was a preening, prancing, silly satyr. And Dave Navarro — ah, muscled, goateed, chain-smoking, bare-chested, alt-rock guitar icon, thy physique is perfection, and your hammer of the tattooed love god riffs are pretty good too.

(Check out photos of Trent, Perry and Morello in action in our NIN/JA tour opener gallery.)

Including original drummer Stephen Perkins (rocking a kilt) and secret-weapon bassist Eric Avery (keeping Farrell’s and Navarro’s egos tethered to the bottom), Jane’s came onstage for their first tour in 17 years full of themselves. First there was a short movie that touted the importance of the band’s return to children who never got to see them live and that of course featured JA’s habitual muse: pert-breasted pinups. Then there was Perry doing his Fiddler on the Roof court-jester hip dance, Navarro performing long manic love to not one but two guitars, Perkins soloing with not one but two bass drums, Farrell waving that bottle around like a merry prankster — and that was just the first song, epic opener “Three Days.”

>Photograph by Joshua Prezant for RollingStone.com

The moon was full and Farrell was on home turf, with old high school chums in the audience. Before the encore, he dedicated the show to a friend who had passed. Then the band played a lovely, acoustic “Jane Says,” with Perkins on steel drums and the audience of course singing along. Interacting little during the previous 70 minutes, the players came together at the end, arms slung across shoulders, the demons that drove them apart at least temporarily quelled.

That unplugged moment was the rare instance when Jane’s Addiction hasn’t pursued the maxim more is more. Even before the dawn of the Nirvana era, they defined alt-rock as progressive music rather than punk. With a darker predilection for pomp, Nine Inch Nails was right there alongside them — literally, sharing the stage at the first, historic Lollapalooza tour in 1991. That festival broke Jane’s up. Unable to split with himself, Trent Reznor has stuck out the rise and fall of alternative — until now. “It’s been a good run,” the Nails head said, sounding pretty banal for the erstwhile dark sex god of industrial thrash. “Thank you for your support over the years.”

Taking the stage before Jane’s, while it was still light outside, NIN was at a distinct disadvantage — Reznor does not play summer feel-good hits. He and his three bandmates got straight to their business of calling the world a dark hole full of pathetic humans. Sorry to wax Nietzschean here, but NIN is Apollonian in its pursuit of order, compared to Jane’s Dionysian zest for excess. It’s always been a bit hard to take lyrics like “If there is a hell I’ll see you there” seriously, but it was even harder with a beach ball bouncing around the audience’s heads.

NIN sounded scary-great on “Head Like a Hole,” the first song on their first LP, and on a song that Reznor announced they had never played before, a cover of David Bowie’s “I’m Afraid of Americans.” But the material from in between wore thin. Looking more like a meathead Tom Cruise than Alan Rickman’s black-magic Severus Snape, Reznor has not sipped from Jane’s fountain of youth. But there’s no doubt that his raw power has long spoken to the disturbed souls of goth youth, and when NIN didn’t come back for even one encore, the booing audience clearly felt like something important had been lost. Reznor Tweeted that the PA got shut off, giving him a “temper tantrum.”

The NIN/JA tour — which also features Tom Morello’s Rage-esque new band, Street Sweeper Social Club, which debuted in New York a few days before the Florida show — doesn’t mean that alt rock has hit the oldies circuit. It’s more like catching Genesis and Yes in, say 1985, when their best days were behind them, but you just wanted to say one more farewell. “Wave Goodbye” Reznor has dubbed this tour. Friday night, it ended a little sooner than he wanted.

Best Tour of the Year ... | 5/11/2009, 11:21 am EST

… or best tour of the decade?

You decide.

Nathan johnson | 5/11/2009, 11:52 am EST

NO

Mrs Mariqueen Reznor | 5/11/2009, 12:19 pm EST

Trentie, you forgot to take the garbage out.

TPorter | 5/11/2009, 12:26 pm EST

I saw the show the next night in tampa and it was incredible. Both NIN and Janes were amazing. The wait for Janes was worth it. So glad I could see them again.

Hula | 5/11/2009, 12:31 pm EST

Wow! You win at life!

‘Meathead Tom Cruise’? Trent’s been through the ringer, I think he’s entitled to look a little different than he did 20 years ago.

As for ‘the material from in between [wearing] thin’, you obviously haven’t seen the fans’ reaction to this tour.

Anonymous | 5/11/2009, 12:50 pm EST

I saw them in Atlanta last night. Everyone completely blew me away. “Reptile” from NIN’s set was absolutely flawless, and miles better than the album version, and several songs had the same effect. Jane’s Addiction, which I was never well-acquainted with musically was amazing as well. my mind was blown and I’m just sorry it’s over.

exc1t3r | 5/11/2009, 3:06 pm EST

THIS IS THE BEST TOUR OF THE DECADE! I MEAN, HONESTLY – THE JONAS BROTHERS ARE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE… AND WHILE BANDS LIKE THAT EXIST, EVERY TOUR FEATURING JA & NIN IS KICKASS. EVEN IF IT`S FARELL AND REZNOR PLAYING DAMIEN RICE SONGS FOR TWO HOURS…

stephen sarsfield | 5/11/2009, 3:32 pm EST

was @ wpb. been caught stealin was the high point… kinda awesome; between songs it was very quiet, so i yelled out “been caught stealinnnnn” and then they played it right on time it was cool!

was very disappointed in NIN, too acoustic, didnt even play “f*ck you like an animal”

they were so acoustic i didnt even know it was them – i thought it was a tribute band playing homage as an opening act!

also, the venue isnt great. need some laser light shows and more projection screens… projection on the side of the stage (on that blank wall)so you can see the bands while at the concession area/bathroom would be very cool.

it was gross how much garbage americans leave behind. what a bunch of animals

Evan | 5/11/2009, 4:25 pm EST

I was there and no encore was extremely disappointing, knowing there was a 99% chance the encore was gonna be Hurt made it even worse. TR said the PA system was shut off. So turn it back on! many people left after NIN got off anyway. Even if it took awhile for the PA to get fixed, every1 would have waited! This was my first NIN show, and this is there last tour. I didnt have a chance to see them before cause Im 16. So knowing this is the last time i will ever see Trent play, and knowing the show wasnt as good as it could have been is frustrating…

Huh? | 5/11/2009, 5:14 pm EST

“Material from in between wore thin”? Hey missy, obviously you know nothing about NIN material, and that’s ok, but than don’t pretend like you do. This is not a tour for those want to hear that “fuck you like an animal” song, as someone above pointed out. This is a tour for hardcore NIN fans who are EXCITED to hear songs that haven’t been played 100000000000 of times before. And if this was so bad, I would like to see what you consider as being a good gig. Probably Kings of Leon coz they have so much energy on stage!

Tex101 | 5/11/2009, 7:10 pm EST

It’s more like catching Genesis and Yes in, say 1985, when their best days were behind them, but you just wanted to say one more farewell.

WTF? Wow how can you put Jane’s and NIN in that category? They are two seperate eras in rock history. BTW Yes’s “Big Generator” went platnium in 1987.

Timber | 5/11/2009, 8:12 pm EST

Hell, Alan Rickman looks way better than him, and he’s 63 years old! He used to look like 20-year-old version of Professor Snape, but now he’s an overweight buffoon. And that haircut does him no justice either, it emphasizes how large his head is. Maybe that’s why he proposed to that Mariqueen bimbo so quick, he probably thought this was his only chance at a young, hot thing.

Sober Blues | 5/11/2009, 11:21 pm EST

@Mrs Mariqueen Reznor:
The real Mariqueen apparently just read your comment! She just said on Twitter “it would really be mrs. trent reznor, fucking dumb ass.” LOL!!!!!!!!!

nin opening for janes? what??

Anonymous | 5/12/2009, 1:54 am EST

Why does Trent Reznor, in every photograph, look like he just had a red hot poker shoved up his ass? He’s been working that pained, angry rock star look for 20 years now. Good god man, give it a rest.

Howard Bedford | 5/12/2009, 11:57 am EST

I was at the Atlanta show and it was extremely disappointing. There was a pre-sale ticketing fiasco. Half of the audience was outside while NIN was playing. The merchandise was priced skyhigh. I have given up on NIN after this concert experience, Trent picking fights with other musicians, Trent being rude to fans, and now this insipid female hustler. I don’t know who Trent Reznor is anymore.

Ari | 5/12/2009, 12:44 pm EST

A bunch of tools get together to make noise. Bleh. I’d watch them only if it’s a 10 dollar bill for both bands.

Mariqueen is the dumbass Mrs. can be used both ways. Jeez, she calls Trent’s fans “dumbass”. REAL CLASSY.

James Varnum | 5/12/2009, 1:43 pm EST

I felt like the FL show was very down tempo. The pit was the tamest I have ever seen at a concert. Overall the show wasn’t very good. I heard Trent say the show was going to be stripped down but this show seems better suited for a small venue. Trent needs to regroup and get away from this media crap. Then he might find a good woman and do kick ass concerts.

Oda | 5/12/2009, 2:08 pm EST

I was at this show. Front and center in the Pit. I have to say, even though it was disappointing there was no encore for NIN, this was an AMAZING show. I did not stop jumping and singing for a second. I sat in front of my computer and hit the button right when they went on sale and got the prime tickets and it was worth every cent. I am a long time fan and glad I got to see this.

Kirby will b back | 5/12/2009, 2:18 pm EST

So that’s what it all boils down to in the end? Dave “lipstick” Navarro is thin and Reznor is aging normally? barf. Yep your article really gives that impression. Another one of those new RS girls who prances around calling evrybody “dude”, eh…

You don’t get it; the hints have been clearly laid down: this accoustic NIN is just phase one of their come-back as Accordion/Gipsy band comeback.

Now THAT you won’t expect. “hurt” on bandeleon is really something. You just wait. You just wait.

Jeff Walker | 5/12/2009, 2:22 pm EST

The FL show was the highest price I’ve ever paid for a concert. I’ve seen NIN multiple times, and expected a good show. The FL concert was the most lackluster stage show I have ever been to. We were hoping for a true NIN show of visual and auditory overload not what was had. I left disappointed as did my people, and everyone walking out after the show from what I heard had very similar feelings. We felt like we just got screwed over, the tickets should have been no more than 29.99. Reznor needs to focus more on this tour and not on tweeting his relationship with some Hollywood ho. I heard Atlanta got more screwed than FL. I’m disgusted.

Gibby Haynes | 5/12/2009, 3:45 pm EST

To the person below surprised that NIN opened for Janes, um, yes. Its been done before, and Jane’s paved the way for NIN. Respect your forefathers and learn your history, moron.

You just don't get it... | 5/12/2009, 4:15 pm EST

@ Sarsfield. This tour is for the fans who appreciate the talent of the musicians. You are a douchebag..mad at nin for not playing the “f**k you like an animal song?”.Seriously. The song is called “closer” by the way. Its dicks like you who just want to hear the song on the radio that you know that ruin it for fans who want to hear a spontaneous and unique show. Listen to your cookie cutter greatest hits cd and let us enjoy the rare moments of true expression. I love the hits as much as the next person but the great moments are unexpected.

Nic Stein | 5/12/2009, 4:18 pm EST

There was a BIG problem for those of us that bought nin.com Atlanta pre-sale tickets. This was COMPLETELY screwed up, they didn’t have the tickets ready at all! There were literally hundreds of people waiting in line to get their tickets. Once you got to the window (which took over an hour), you had to give them your name, and then someone had to run out and find them somewhere and bring them to the window. It was a total fiasco. I got there just before 7pm, and we didn’t get our tickets until almost 8:15pm. We missed Streetsweeper and half of the NIN set. And we were actually lucky because we were at the front of the line. I feel bad for all those behind us that were waiting. I WILL NEVER GO TO ANOTHER NIN CONCERT. That’s what you get for being greedy old man Reznor.

Matt | 5/12/2009, 4:52 pm EST

Gibby…get your facts straight moron. NIN has been touring the world for years. Jane’s Addiction came out with three albums. No way NIN should be opening up for them, especially since Trent says this is the farewell tour.

Sammy | 5/12/2009, 5:58 pm EST

The problems in atlanta did not happen in Tampa. Sounds like a problem with how Atl handles concerts. Put the blame where it should go Jackass, not old and smart reznor… @ young and stupid nic stein

PHOENIXAMAZON | 5/12/2009, 8:03 pm EST

Hey look my comment bashing the authors taste in music was removed. Why an I not surprised.

No Name | 5/12/2009, 10:16 pm EST

Trent Reznor is a dangerous man.

ghosthorse4949 | 5/12/2009, 10:48 pm EST

Reznor is a rock god. Who care’s that he’s aged, we all do. I’m sad NINis going away indefinitly, Reznor has scored the soundtrack to my life and i’m thankful to him for that. I hope he finds happiness in life he has worked hard and deseves it. P.S. FUCK ALL YOU HATERS

Shaun | 5/13/2009, 12:18 am EST

There were a lot of very pissed off people at the West Palm show… NIN opened for Jane’s, but nobody knew that was going to happen. I guess my fault for showing up a little late, got there around 7:45 and NIN was already on stage. Then they didn’t even come out for an encore. The stage looked like they were going to come back out for a bit and then all of a sudden the lights came on and they started setting up the stage for Jane’s. Heard a lot of booing… Lots of pissed off people…

Cory B. | 5/13/2009, 2:28 am EST

Went to the Austin show and it was awful. NIN was lackluster and sounded weak. Audience was not into the music. Trent recently tweeted about it: “Not one of our better shows. Despite our efforts we seemed unable to win over the crowd. Texas ends with a whisper.” about 4 hours ago from Tweetie
Trent should buckle down and focus on the tour and not his cheapo girlfriend.

Hey austin | 5/13/2009, 11:14 am EST

How can you be mad at the band. They feed off the energy of the crowd. You got no feeling….you fail.

Jasmine | 5/13/2009, 1:14 pm EST

Jane’s was sooo good! especially Dave Navarro OMG! Trent Reznor looks old and fat now I can’t believe I used to have a crush on him in high school.

Gibby Haynes | 5/13/2009, 2:19 pm EST

hey matt, as someone who was there, jane’s released 3 albums, but have been around since 1986. they came first. trent saw them as pioneers. he thanked them on his first album, with public enemy and prince. only a goth kid wannabe would refute what I originally said. jane’s closes the shows because they are the forefathers. now go play with your daddy’s video games.

Al Landow | 5/13/2009, 2:53 pm EST

Did you see Trent Reznor whining about the Austin show on Twitter? Really, is he surprised? IT SUCKED! HE SOUNDED LIKE SHIT. He needs to grow up and stop being a ass. He’s “sad” that the crowd wasn’t into it, well if he had put together a tighter show, we would have been into it.

maybe best of the decade | 5/13/2009, 4:07 pm EST

Concert experiences are so hit and miss. It’s a shame that they cost so much, considering all that can go wrong and ruin it. Tech glitches, poor performances, idiot fans, you name it. It’s always interesting to see different attendees’ accounts of the same show. The reviews run the gamut from “OMFGbestshowever” to “WTFtheysoundedlikeshit”.

Tha t said, I am a big fan of both bands, and was in the pit for the ATL show. It was worth the $110+hotel+gas from Knoxville. SSSC was great, NIN was superb as usual, and Jane’s KILLED. Believe me, for the high ticket price I was ready for a letdown, but not this time.

David Beard | 5/13/2009, 4:24 pm EST

I caught the Atlanta show and both bands did a great job. I liked the fact that NIN played mostly B-side stuff instead of the mainstream that all of the little kiddies were wanting to hear.

Jane’s absolutely rocked the house even after Perry tore his calf muscle on the first song (3 days). There is not a better tour going around this summer!

C. Hernandez | 5/13/2009, 11:12 pm EST

It was announced before this tour began that the NIN set would not have all the over-the-top lighting and production that the previous tour had. It was also stated that where previous tours had standard setlists, this one would have a few surprises. Trent also specifically stated that “Closer” would not be played. Regarding not knowing that NIN would open for Jane’s Addicition, all I can say is show up to places on time and you will never go wrong. I’m surprised at how selfish and unappreciative fans can be with bands/artists that are so giving. I don’t blame Trent for saying good-bye! I was fortunate enough to see NIN 4 times and I enjoyed every single experience. Thanks Trent!

E P | 5/14/2009, 1:04 am EST

I am going to see this show in DETROIT and i guarantee it will be AWESOME- how anyone can’t GET IN to music by NIN (ie: austin, tx) astounds me- GOOD CITIES HAVE GOOD SHOWS

joseph marks | 5/14/2009, 1:09 am EST

Trent Reznor is a desperate, middle-aged clown. He whined about the Austin show. Really, is he surprised… He’s spent the last two weeks being a complete jerk who even goes as far as attacking fans, then he’s “sad” that the crowd wasn’t into it. I wasn’t blown away by the NIN/JA show because they sucked. The show was very down tempo.

Jim Harrison | 5/14/2009, 1:20 am EST

In all seriousness, I have met a number of fragile personalities over the years and Trent Reznor is one of them. They way he has behaved in the last couple of weeks is extremely disturbing. He needs a shrink for his big inflated head.

Devinoch | 5/14/2009, 4:32 am EST

Wow, comment trolls are trollish.

Seriously guys, if you don’t like Trent, don’t like the music, then stop paying attention to him and/or it, and leave it for those of us who do.

Oh, wait, no one listens to you when you guys aren’t whining about how you hate everything, and you desperately need someone to pay attention to you.

Trent’s done alright by me. Seen NIN live 3 times (1994, 1999 and 2004) and seeing him with JA next week, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

As for you trolls? Well, no one cares what you think. We’re simply pointing and laughing at you.

Phillip Lindsey | 5/14/2009, 9:04 am EST

It was clear that Trent Reznor did not give the Austin show his usual commitment. A simple show for a hefty price. The setlist was challenging for newer or casual fans. I liked the Downward Spiral material. However, Trent seemed elsewhere in his performance and there was no energy. The lighting, audience, and pacing was off at this show. The light show was minimal and Trent didn’t win over the crowd. Very disappointed in JA since we could barely understand what Perry was singing.

Roy Munson | 5/14/2009, 1:25 pm EST

I ansoulutely LOVE Jane’s but I’d disappointed to read NIN is opening for them. They’ve got a much bigger catalouge and can/should play a longer set — plus, having seen them in the afternoon at the original Lollapalooza, they are SO much at night.

The headliner only plays 70 minutes? That’s a little lame. Still looking forward to going in NJ next month.

Roy Munson | 5/14/2009, 1:26 pm EST

I meant they are so much better at night.

Sean | 5/14/2009, 6:19 pm EST

I keep hearing all this gripe about NIN in Austin which I thought was a good performance. Definitely the best set out of the three bands. The set list was perfect as far as I am concerned and the people in my section were pumped during the entire show. Most were singing their asses off word for word. In honesty, I was shocked that NIN opened for JA…I think it took some people 2-3 songs to realize that NIN was on stage. I was completely expecting a NIN headlining show.
I also kept hearing rumors that JA was cancelling due to Perry’s leg injury in Atlanta so when NIN hit the stage, I can hear people commenting on if JA was even going to perform. I give Perry props for keeping his commitment to the fans but for most of their set, you could not understand one word coming out of his mouth. The only reason you knew it was him is from his signature ‘ECHO’ at the end of each vocal line.

I think the fans enjoyed the NIN show and appreciated their performance. You do not have to jump on stage and bang your head on the floor until it bleeds to appreciate the band.
The other surprise to me was the amount of people that made it to the show. I spent 45.00 a ticket to sit in the highest section possible before you hit the ceiling. It seemed like the show was very close to selling out and in a time when tours are not doing so well, Trent should be grateful for all of us who did show up…

Ryan Henry | 5/15/2009, 7:18 am EST

The image and mystique of Nine Inch Nails has been destroyed for me forever by Mr. Reznor. His latest fiasco with the media-whore girlfriend has made me ashamed to have been a fan. He took a finely-crafted, respected image and threw it in the trash. Goodbye, Mr. Reznor, you have lost another fan.

Loose Cannon | 5/15/2009, 11:07 am EST

I cannot tell you how much agree with this review. All of you need to Google the review of this concert “Trent Reznor does not want to F— you like an animal.” It’s on a site called RUFKM. The beach ball comment was priceless. Jane’s Addiction stole the show, Trent had a stage made of Lite Brite, and there was absolutely no vibe going on. I love this review.

grimjack | 5/15/2009, 9:49 pm EST

Bands that are so giving? They are charging money for this show. If it is truely the end of a touring NIN, then they should do a proper set, and shouldn’t be opening for anyone. I regret not seeing the 2008 tour. I was hoping to get a proper send-off this year.

WHAM! | 5/16/2009, 12:20 pm EST

To Ryan Henry, why do you hate his girlfriend? I’m just curious :P

dreath | 5/16/2009, 2:54 pm EST

Worst concert i ever seen. Please do not waste your money on this show. NIN only plays for an hour and leaves. AFter that janes plays and dances around like a bunch of faries. Crap Crap Crap… NIN final tour and they open for janes ,,,,,hahahahahahaha shoot me or at least give me a refund

crzydgldy | 5/16/2009, 4:39 pm EST

Wow. All this surprises me. I caught NIN in July 08 on the Canadian leg of that tour. Shitloads of energy, stunning light show, nicely balanced setlist (The Big Come Down! Yes!). 2.5 hours of amazingness. Even my NIN-hating concert companion loved it.

matt | 5/17/2009, 1:34 am EST

I went to this opening night show. It was great. Trent has also said that this final tour was a tour for the real fans and wasn’t going to be a greatest hits tour. You people who go only to hear the radio singles shouldn’t bother going, should sit home and just listen to the singles on your cd’s if that’s the case.
Janes Addiction, for me did steal the show. As for the writer of this article, how far back were you that you didn’t see that Jane’s was in amazing shape for their age. Possibly even better than they were before they broke up. Pouches? come on. Seriously, learn to review a show as an actual music fan and not as one of the masses that’s obsessed with radio singles and looks.

diggityd78 | 5/17/2009, 9:47 am EST

I went to the 2nd show in Tampa. I have to say, I saw NIN in Tampa (on the With_Teeth tour) in 2005 and this show was NOT on the same level technically. BUT, I enjoyed Trent & Co. actually playing the songs with a stripped-down approach. Jane’s Addiction live was stole the show. They opened w/3 Days, in what seemed like a version that lasted as long! Anyways, NIN & JA had great energy (along w/SSSC opening) and the crowd was WAY into it…

Pete | 5/17/2009, 1:30 pm EST

No disrespect to JA but I was very disapointed that NIN played before them in San Diego. I, along with many people in the audience, was not expecting that at all. The show was promoted as NIN with JA. I did not pay $80 to see JA headline, I am sorry.

mr.self.destruct | 5/18/2009, 1:15 pm EST

@Dreath..why don’t you shoot yourself and save someone the bullets. This tour is for music lovers not posers.

HOLLEE | 5/19/2009, 2:02 pm EST

I am seeing them this Friday @ Shoreline. I personally am going to see Janes and am STOKED that they are headlining……I have seen them several times including the very first Lolapalooza…..honestly Janes and NIN are 2 very different types of music so of course their fans are going to be looking for different things from a concert so quite the cry baby bs and just be happy that you got to see NIN before they quit touring and be happy that you got to see Janes back together again! PS Perry is the real GOD of SEX and ROCK AND ROLL can’t wait to see them !!!!!!!!

bummed in irvine | 5/21/2009, 12:31 pm EST

saw the nin/ja show last nite .. i bought tickets to see nine inch nails, with ja opening and i get there , after hitting gnarly traffic and just as much traffic to get a parking spot . nine is opening for Ja with a shorter setlist?? i cant begin to tell u how dissapointed i was. very unclear in the marketing.. Nine inch Nails should have been the closing act. plus they pack sooo many people into the lawn at irvine meadows that there is basically standing room only, but also on a slope.

there was sound echo problems with the JA set that never got fixed.

both bands sounded good but u could tell how dissapointed all the NIN fans were, myself included , who showed up with plenty of time to seee their headlining band, only to find they’ve missed at least half of their bands farewell tour.. plus no encore.

btw, this is coming from a big fan since about 1995..

i feel like i cant cross NIN off my must see list :-(

to all the haters. trent is buff now. look close the dude is ripped. probably cause he’s laying off the booze.

The NIN/JA concert at irvine was great. Had presale tickets but they didn’t let you in early to the seats. They only let you in to the surrounding venue only to wait an hour to get to your seat. You could hear the sound checks from outside. Street Sweeping Social Club was great also. By the way Perry Farrel always uses a delay when he sings so it wasn’t echo problems during Janes.

About order of appearance:

Trent made the announcement very early on that JA would be closing the show. Yes, the show was billed as “Nine Inch Nails with Jane’s Addition”, however “with” does not establish an order of precedence. Excellent job failing first grade vocabulary, guys.

The lesson: learn to read. I have no idea why you’d spend over $100 for something and then fail to properly research it.

Finally, a rudimentary glance at each respective act’s setlists reveals that NIN is averaging 18 songs per show, while Jane’s is averaging about 13.

You were not ripped off, you were not duped. You are a moron, and you got what you deserved.

What was the specific reason that NIN went on before Jane’s? NIN were the headliners, what happened? It was way too bright for them to be playing.

Whoops, ignore that last comment. Jane’s was boring as hell though, usually the HEADLINERS perform FIRST!

I just returned from the Jones Beach show and there is a reason Trent is retiring NIN. After his ridiculous twitter rants and this terrible performance I would like to pretend the last performance they gave was at MSG 4 years ago. This show was beyond bad!
