Ozzy Osbourne must have one hell of a trophy case at home. The man not only has a collection of Grammys to his credit, but he has been the recipient of numerous accolades over the years, including his 2006 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and his star on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame. But he’s going to have to clear some space for yet another honor this fall.

According to a press release, the second annual Sunset Strip Music Festival will pay tribute this September to the self-proclaimed Prince of Darkness, for the impact he’s made on the legacy of West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. The three-day outdoor festival is scheduled for September 10-12th, and a substantial portion of the Strip will be shut down to accommodate the event.

Osbourne first played the Strip in the fall of 1970, when Black Sabbath’s first U.S. tour invaded the Whisky A Go-Go for a five-night stretch. There’s been no word yet on who will be performing during the festival, but a lineup is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

“We are extremely excited to honor rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, and we are thrilled the City of West Hollywood once again supported the Sunset Strip Music Festival,” says Todd Steadman, the Sunset Strip Music Festival’s executive director. “This year’s street closure will allow us to expand on the success of last year’s inaugural fest and accommodate more fans and festival-goers.”

Of course, this summer, the Osbournes opted to forgo their annual Ozzfest, to permit the Ozzman to finish work on his forthcoming album, which has been tentatively set for a November release. Ozzy is also contributing guest vocals to former Guns n’ Roses/ current Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash’s upcoming solo LP.

Last year, Slash appeared at the Strip Fest to honor Los Angeles’ rock history and recalled dressing in drag to sneak into the Rainbow on ladies’ night: “It was fun, until I found myself standing in the Rainbow in girls’ clothing by myself. It was a novel idea at the time.”

Ozzy Osbourne is a one of a kind rock legend. So many awesome songs whether with Black Sabbath or his solo career. He helped establish some of the earliest heavy metal and deserves to honored. How has he not been inducted for his solo career into the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame yet. “Crazy Train”, “Mr. Crowley”, “Bark at the Moon” and need I go on. Keep on rocking Ozzy.

He deserves the accolades, even though the last five years have been an exercise in legacy destruction. After hearing the new Heaven and Hell CD, he BADLY needs to record with Sabbath one more time.

i liked him more when he was with sabbath. he’s been very fortunate to work with some of the best guitarest ever, tony iommi, randy rhodes, zakk wylde – all of them are incredible.

Ozzy has become a disgrace & completely SOLD OUT, wih all his crappy Reality TV stuff.
I wouldn’t trust his wife Sharon for anything, she sickens me, as do his 3 loser kids, who have done nothing with their lives, but to hang on Daddys coattails.
Ozzy stay on your Meds man, you need them, you big has been!

Can not beleive some of the things I am reading “Has Been” He has consistently put out great albums, and some of his gretest work has been in the last couple of years IMHO. If it wasn’t for Sharon, We would of lost Ozzy a long time ago, Ozzy will tell you that. He deserves this reward as well as the others he has recieved. I owe my tatse in music to this man, he truly is the father of my type of music. Ozzy, keep up the good work and God bless!

I respect other’s opinions of Ozzy, but seriously if you don’t have anything nice to say. Go bark at the moon. I have most of his albums and have seen him in concert 3 times and each time I go I become a bigger fan. I truly think he deserves this honour, and I hope I get to see him in concert again.
Long live The Prince of Darkness.

If opinions like so many others reflect a negative view of Ozzy, Sharon or the family why are they even on his web site;just to make off-the-cuff remarks to discredit them and cause torment amongst his followers? There are other places for that. It’s called “The Enquirer”.

From the bowels of ‘ Sabbath emerged the ‘Prince of Darkness’. At considerable risk he took relatively unknown guitarists like Randy Rhoads, Bernie Thorme,Brad Gillis,Jake E. Lee, Zakk Wilde, and Joe Holmes(a former student of Randy’s)under his wing and took them on a ride that would eventually give them their own wings to fly. For some to say he is a has-been, he is. He is a man who Has Been: able to over-come personal loss with the death of Randy in ‘82;Has Been able to overcome his addictions with the love and support of his wife and family;Has Been able to be the rock and the foundation in the music industry from which other people could build upon. So yes, Ozzy you definitely deserve this. Congratulations. All the best.

How dare they criticize my long time IDOL!!!I have been a fan for nearly 40 years and to say that THE OZZMAN sold out is just plain stupid.Mr.Osbourne is the greatest rock and roll star ever.I saw Black Sabbath in 1975 in Chicago and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to.Kudos for more recognition of one great man.

ozzy deserves everything, he`s the biggest artist that I´ve ever known, and my daughter loves him, and she´s only five, and she sleeps with a pillow that reads: “I`M IRON WOMAN”. ozzy you`re the best.
