Eminem’s Bloody “3 A.M.” Video Debuts, iPhone Game On the Way

5/4/09, 9:21 am EST

Eminem’s video for Relapse single “3 A.M.” debuted Saturday night on movie channel Cinemax and as its trailer suggested, the clip is a gruesome tale featuring Slim Shady as a serial killer out for pills and blood. Directed by art collective Syndrome and filmed in a style that mirrors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grind House, the video definitely qualifies for an R rating, boasting a body count of around 10 people. If 9 a.m. is too early to see dismembered arms and fingers and Em soaking in a bathtub full of blood, you might want to wait until after you’ve digested your breakfast to watch the video above, which has now been posted on Eminem’s Website.

“The sight of blood excites me,” Em raps in the third verse, which hints at what we can expect from the Relapse iPhone game that the rapper has planned. Eminem posted a photo of the upcoming game on his Twitter, and from what we can gather from the lone photograph Eminem provided, the iPhone game looks like it will feature Em running around with a piece of plywood, smacking down on zombie doctors and nurses. Considering its violent plot, it’ll be surprising if the Relapse iPhone game gets approval after the Nine Inch Nails iPhone app update got rejected this weekend for questionable content (stick with Rock Daily for a full report).

As Rock Daily reported last week, Relapse will contain 20 tracks, a handful of which are skits, and two more singles will drop before the album’s May 19th release date. One of those songs, “Old Time’s Sake” featuring Dr. Dre, is expected to hit iTunes tomorrow, Cinco de Mayo. “Beautiful” will follow on May 12th. Eminem previously revealed that second ‘09 LP Relapse 2 is nearly completed.

I love the video.

I like this idea of not even trying to get a video on MTV. Music television is dead anyway, why not just make videos for the internet content be damned.

MTV can still air this in their current video viewing format of “waiting until the VMAs to broadcast 10 second clips while announcing nominees.”

I like this song

Charles | 5/4/2009, 8:59 pm EST

This song isnt that great. Eminem kind of let me down on this one. anyone agree?

Eminem Pui | 5/4/2009, 10:18 pm EST

He’s become Vanilla Ice.

What the hell happened to Eminem’s voice… His voice sounds NOTHING like it used to. It’s like a completely different person.

Nick | 5/5/2009, 11:17 am EST

I dont think he sounds that different. He just cut down on the nasally bratty exaggerated voice and cut back a little on double-tracking the rhymes (aka the Masta Ace effect.) I guess it’s all part of his “maturity”.

I only like Eminem for his flow, which is second to none. So I’ll forgive the fact that so far he has given us another lame generic “celebrity diss” song and now the same “horrorcore” rap he’s been doing for over a decade.

I had once hoped he’d evolve into a social commentator (more than just stupid Sarah Palin and Amy Winehouse punchlines.) But I guess that’s never going to happen, so just appreciate him for his masterful flow. But he does waste so much potential.

Dr. Dre | 5/5/2009, 12:27 pm EST

The song is tight and the video makes the song even better. This is what hip hop has been missing for years. Something different that gets people talking. Would people like it if he was talking about how “tight” his game was instead?

Black Hole Sun | 5/5/2009, 12:27 pm EST

This isn’t Eminem. This is someone posing as him. It doesn’t look like him or sound like him. Maybe the real Eminem is dead and Interscope couldn’t stand the idea of losing their most profitable asset, so they got some dude and paid him to pretend to be Eminem. Well they might as well drop their act now. I think people would appreciate Em’s legacy a hell lot more if there wasn’t some pill-popping tool trying to take over his spot with lame-ass songs like this. He should rename “Relapse” to “Obvious Cry For Help”.

It’s nice to see that Gollum has found work since those Lord Of The Rings movies.

Jay | 5/5/2009, 5:17 pm EST

Eminem is a talented and unique dude…I give him his props for continuing to be himself and not following the trends that other people in his genre of music are so known to do…I think Em is a break from the norm and I can support that.

Odd | 5/5/2009, 5:46 pm EST

I don’t remember Eminem having the voice of a 12 year old boy… Did he always sound like this? Really? In the lyrics, when go goes “I Don’t remember how they got there – but I guess I must’ve killed ‘em, killed ‘em”… That’s really lame flow. The lyrics aren’t good and they don’t sound good.

Beardo | 5/5/2009, 5:57 pm EST

Like the song and Eminem. And shirtless.

Another | 5/5/2009, 8:30 pm EST

It’s just a different tone of voice he’s using. He sounds like normal Eminem on “We Made You” and “Crack A Bottle”.

The “Killed ‘em…..killed ‘em” flow is just the chorus. He kills it (no pun intended) the 2nd and 3rd verses. If you think that’s a bad flow you don’t know about rapping.

Odd | 5/5/2009, 9:22 pm EST

I don’t give a crap about rapping, but I know what sounds good. When he says “killed em, killed em” not only are the lyrics f-ing STUPID, they don’t sound good.

manjoos | 5/6/2009, 12:49 am EST

eminem’s lyrics are untouchable. his voice may sound different, but he’s been through a lot. so, naturally, he should sound different. to suggest otherwise is self-proclaimed stupidity. back up off him. he’s being himself. what more could we ask for?

Adam | 5/6/2009, 8:20 am EST

Can no one see that this is one of the worst songs ever recorded? And the video was pointless, all the killing was off-screen. This album will suck even worse than Encore.

Act it | 5/6/2009, 6:57 pm EST

What’s up with the weird Jamaican accent? The song wouldn’t be horrible if it wasn’t for that. And the video looks more like a spoof of the Saw movies. We get it Eminem, you’re hardcore. Stop trying so hard to prove that.

eminem girl | 5/7/2009, 1:02 pm EST

EMINEM IS THE BEST RAPPER EVER X X
