Paramore Tackle Friendships on September LP: “There’s Fast, There’s Slow and In Between”

Paramore will release the follow-up to their breakout album Riot! in September, MTV revealed; the band’s label confirmed the news yesterday. “We made a record that is exactly what we set out to make,” fiery frontwoman Hayley Williams said on the band’s LiveJournal page. “There’s fast, there’s slow, and in between… happy, angry, desperate and over it. And I can’t believe it’s real.” For their third album, the Nashville power punks worked with Rob Cavallo, who produced Green Day’s American Idiot, Dave Matthews Band’s Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King and Paramore’s own contributions to the Twilight soundtrack, including the hit single “Decode.”

“When I started writing for the album, I was really nervous about my role and what my opinions were worth nowadays. I figured, who is going to care what I have to say? We had a pretty successful record, we tour in a bus, buddy-up with MTV, and we recorded for the Twilight soundtrack… no one wants to hear me whine,” Williams writes. Since Riot!, the band has faced break-up rumors, parents’ divorces, even the death of a former member. “Most of the songs you’ll hear have to do with friendship. In fact, this is the first Paramore album that wasn’t written mostly about love relationships. I have made a lot of friends and I’ve lost a lot of friends over the past couple years… and it’s all gonna be there for you to dissect,” Williams explained.

When Rock Daily spoke with Williams in December 2008, the album was still in its embryonic stages. “I have a lot to say this time around, and there’s a lot of things I thought I knew that I was absolutely wrong about,” Williams told us. While September seems pretty far off, Paramore will likely test out some of their new material when they hit the road this summer to open for No Doubt. Rolling Stone recently hung out with Hayley and the band for an in the studio feature, so keep an eye out for the story in an upcoming issue.

It should be interesting to see if Paramore makes “The Leap” with Rob Cavallo at the helm. By “The Leap”, I mean the stage in a band’s life where we know if they are career artists or just flashes in the pan. Personally, I’m rooting them on…nothing wrong with a talented band that appeals to the masses.

Even though Riot! was not their first album, I hope they avoid the “sophomore slump” and turn out a great record. They’re not the greatest band in the world, but there is definitely something refreshing about them.

This is definitely a band to watch. Sure fire multiplatinum with millions of new fans in tow. It’s been a while since a band like Paramore has ignited enthusiasm, anticipation and attention all focused on its female vocalist.

I like Paramore, I think Hayley Williams is one of the few talented rocker chicks, so I wish them the best. Riot was a good album, so I hope the upcoming album bests it.

Paramore is also great live act…I seen em on the final riot tour…was actually at the recording of the final riot dvd in my hometown of chicago…the crowd was so in2 it…the pit which was actually surprisng there was 1…was better than the last time I seen chevelle at the house of blues….and “riot” is not their 1st cd…their 1st cd is actually “all we know is falling” which is way better than “riot”….

Who cares about Paramore’s new album? 21st Century Breakdown is around the corner.

The Boss | 5/1/2009, 11:09 am EST

This band is one of the most talented group of artists I’ve heard in a long time. Songs are great, live show is great, fan base is endless. They will be around for years. Accept it.

Paramore is a great band.
They are fresh and really rock.
You may not like them but music has always been about personal taste.
But they are very good
And if they stay together…
The best is yet to come

Paramore is only pushed so the music industry can hold one band up as an example on how their 360 record deal scam “works”.

How stupid does a band have to be to sacrifice significant chunks of concert and merchandise revenue for a slightly increased tiny record royalty deal? I guess you have to be a backwoods Tennessee resident like Paramore.

I can’t wait for the Paramore episode of “Behind The Music” where Hayley tearfully talks about their label scamming a ton of money from Paramore during their gravy days.
