The Big News: A beef with 50 Cent and allegations that he was a correctional officer in the past weren’t enough to prevent Rick Ross from scoring his third consecutive Number One album. Ross’ Deeper Than Rap grabbed the top spot with 157,000 copies, roughly 40,000 copies less than Ross’ 2008 LP Trilla had in its debut week, but enough to bump last week’s champ the Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack to second with 104,000 copies. Synth-rockers and Lollapalooza headliners Depeche Mode took Number Three with 80,000 copies of Sounds of the Universe, Rascal Flatts’ Unstoppable nabbed Number Four and rapper Asher Roth rounded out the Top Five with his debut set Asleep in the Bread Aisle.

Debuts: Outside the three big debuts in the Top Five, Lacuna Coil’s Shallow Life had the best showing by landing at 16. Further down, dance duo the Pet Shop Boys said Yes to 32, Manchester Orchestra’s Mean Everything to Nothing placed 37th and power-pop supergroup Tinted Windows and their self-titled disc settled in at 59.

Last Week’s Heroes: Silversun Pickups’ Swoon dove down from seven to 33 after one week. Even though she only fell one spot, Taylor Swift and Fearless‘ move from 10 last week to 11 this week marks the first time in 24 weeks that the triple-platinum-selling album hasn’t been in the Top 10. Next week we’ll find out if Ross has enough juice to hold off Bob Dylan’s Together Through Life.

WHY? WHY IS IT #1? RICK ROSS IS A PHONY, HIS MUSIC IS THE SAME TYPICAL TRASH WE EXPECT FROM RAP MUSIC NOWADAYS. Seriously, you mean to tell me that people spend money on his crap? Especially nowadays, THAT’S where you would spend your limited funds on? Meanwhile, the Silversun Pickups, who are a brilliant band, dropped 24 spots on the charts. THEY deserve to be number 1 because they make music from the HEART, not for the MONEY, unlike Rick Ross. Hip-Hop is truly dead, because damn near every mainstream rapper SUCKS. We should stop buying their repetitive crap to force them to step up their game.

The beef with curtis is what made sales. He is fake, he is rapping about a life he is imagining and denies being a correctional officer. Once 50 cent’s album is out Ross will shut up.

Rick ross is one of the dopest rappers out now! So what if he was a correctional officer..ever heard of crooked cops? 50 cent’s beef is as irrelevant as he is. Dude hasn’t had a hit album since get rich die tryin. The dude had to get his own radio station on sirius just so his wack songs and stupid freestyles can get played!
Long live rickys career! Keep bringing that heat!
