  • All that verbal sparring with 50 Cent seems to has paid off: Rick Ross is in line for his third consecutive Number One album as the rapper’s Deeper Than Rap is on pace for 160,000 copies sold. Asher Roth’s Asleep in the Bread Aisle and Depeche Mode’s Sounds of the Universe are battling it out as the week’s second-biggest debut, Billboard.biz reports.

  • Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis has been cast to play Ian Dury in an upcoming biopic of the British rocker titled Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. According to Variety, the film about the “Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick” singer will also star Toby Jones, Ray Winstone, Olivia Williams and Mackenzie Crook of the original The Office.
  • Record Store Day helped independent shops sell roughly 566,000 albums on April 18th, a one percent boost over the previous year’s totals, Billboard.biz reports. The one percent might seem small, but considering that album sales overall were down 15 percent over the same week last year, the haul was impressive. Additionally, 80,000 vinyl albums were sold, double the amount moved on last year’s Day.
  • Bob Marley’s “One Love” was named Jamaica’s best song in the last 50 years, Reuters reports.

Ummm whoever wrote this column is surely not that brightest. Other than the typo in the first sentence….The beef between 50 Cent & Rick Ross hasn’t helped Ross at all…If you pay attention to music you know “Trilla” Ross’s previous effort sold nearly 200,000 its first week. So how does the beef with 50 pay off after he just sold 50,000 less??

In this mess of a music biz, being #1 sounds better than it sold 50,000 less than the last one. Look at the top 10 right now. They would be outside the top 40 ten years ago based on sales.

I wish they would combine the catalog and the current top 40 so we could see what is really selling (Beatles, Jimmy Buffet, Metallica)

I am really impressed by 50 CENT…his business savvy.

Check this out

Rick Ross is scheduled to move between 160k – 180K with his Deeper than Rap album…OK, the album was pretty solid if you ask me. But him starting a beef has harmed him in the long run…Don’t believe check the #s.

Port of Miami — 187K in the first week…today it is 650K (just 150k over gold)…his first album, pure street, you focus more on the word play, beat selection and you got a pure album.

Trilla- 198K the first week…today it is 700k…second album, he envolved in to the BOSS syndrome…not a bad scheme it worked…plus the album was solid.

Ok DTR- Schedule to move 160k to 180k…if it lands in between them #s, this will be his lowest showing for all albums…plus if you take the average he is roughly 190K mover, at best…his feud or publicty stunt back fired in my opinion…this album had the making to be monster, lyrics on point and everything…he chose to pick the “Start a Beef to sell Syndrome”…and the beef became bigger than his album…SHAME

All that said…NEXT TIME SCAN YOUR LANE…and make the focus on your music, instead of SCREAMING “HE IS A MONKEY” to 50 CENT. And the bad thing is as an artist he is pretty tight…

The Jermaine TAYLOR Award goes to RICK ROSS…Had a Knock Out Album just don’t have the Stamina to finish the fight.
