Before even releasing their self-titled debut on June 9th, new rock supergroup Chickenfoot have already sold out all nine road-test concerts they had planned for May. The quartet — which features former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Mike Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitar virtuoso Joe Satrianiposted on their official site, “Beyond our expectations, the public on-sales for the nine road-test shows sold out all tickets in record time. The band was blown away by your response and can’t wait to take the show on the road!”

Because tickets for the shows are so scarce and in such high demand, the band has instituted an anti-scalping policy for the concerts, requiring each ticket owner to show ID at the door for each show. Demand for tix was so great, members of the group’s new fan club were even shut out. However, the band promises to hit the road once again, at bigger venues, in August and September during a major North American tour. “The boys are in rehearsal this week, and we’ll see you on the road!” they promise.

Also on the Chickenfoot site, the band has posted a introductory video, with Chad Smith poking fun at his resemblance to actor Will Ferrell by calling himself “Ricky Bobby” and making a couple of Talladega Nights jokes. We also learn Mike Anthony has both a really awesome kitchen and a shy parrot and that Joe Satriani feels more comfortable communicating with a Satriani puppet.

“We spent a lot of time together in the recording studio working long hours to make Chickenfoot live up to expectations,” Satriani recently said. “We really feel like we’ve mastered it and recorded a great album but now we’re especially excited to take the show on the road and see how the fans react to it live. I think we are really going to feed off of the fan’s energy. We’re really that type of band.”

The sold-out dates include:

May 14 – Seattle, WA @ El Corazon
May 15 – Vancouver, BC @ Commodore Ballroom
May 17 – San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore
May 19 – West Hollywood, CA @ The Roxy Theatre
May 22 – Chicago, IL @ Park West
May 24 – Toronto, ON @ The Mod Club Theatre
May 26 – Cambridge, MA @ Middle East Upstairs
May 28 – New York, NY @ The Fillmore
May 29 – Philadelphia, PA @ TLA

Thats great, I like all of the members and wish them great success as a band. I saw Satriani before at Rams Head Live in Baltimore and it was a fantastic show, he rocked it!

wow it’s like Van Halen minus the douchebaggery of the Van Halen brothers…

Chickenplay | 4/22/2009, 1:26 pm EST

This is just a warm up for their tour with Coldplay. Because after all, Satch’s lawsuit is a cold play for publicity and cash.

Those places really aren’t that hard to sell out

VH? | 4/22/2009, 2:21 pm EST

They’re surprised it sold out so fast? The place in Boston holds about 250 people!

Papa | 4/22/2009, 3:20 pm EST

If they couldn’t sell these places out I would be concerned. I hope to god Hagar does not mention Cabo during the shows. I like Hagar but he has become a joke with his music and constant plugging of Cabo Wabo. Get back to music Sam. Good Luck

CR1ZZ | 4/22/2009, 8:02 pm EST

Of course it sold out. Four guys who can play their instruments good enough to have their names known is worth seeing in the first place. Slightly concerned about the actual song writing skills by these guys but such as life. Once an album is produced and more people begin to recognize these guys actual sound then they can be called a supergroup, but now there just a jam band who can sell out a few small venues.

Kevin | 4/22/2009, 9:27 pm EST

Of course they sold out the places. Those clubs only hold about 500 people. There still the guys with the mullets and girls with the orange tans and leathery skin that can`t wait to see there heroes.Their nothing like Van Halen since Eddie Alex and Dave are`nt in it. The real thing will be hitting the studio in June.

These guys all rock seperately… together they are very cool… these are going to be great shows! Hey Mike and Sam! Fuck Eddy! Do a couple Van Halen covers and send the VH boys their royalties in pennies, just for the hell of it!

Mary | 4/23/2009, 11:23 am EST

Hell, these boys have had a lifetime of music — it only fits that they get together at this stage in life and jam. Keep jamming Sammy, that’s life ! Good luck to you all, I’ll keep a close ear.

Jungleland2 | 4/23/2009, 1:32 pm EST

Good idea to do a “road test” tour 1st and get some press. The songs I have heard so far are good hard rock, Sammy isn’t really known for his lyrics, but still has a great voice. If they use the Mike Anthony back-up vocals in the choruses this will be big…that was always the secret ingredient to VH, the pop hook added to a rock song.

They have the right guys, they don’t need the money, they are still each at the top of their game.

Doug | 4/23/2009, 8:26 pm EST

Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver is a great venue. Only holds 1000 people so I’m not surprised it sold out. Got tickets for the show.

Anonymous | 4/30/2009, 3:54 pm EST

Just heard one of their new songs on the radio, terrible stuff.

suerrocker | 5/14/2009, 4:00 pm EST

the a-dog | 6/11/2009, 10:46 pm EST

just like montrose this band will conquer the world about time we can rehash the kick-ass rock of the 70’s and 80’s

KC | 6/24/2009, 3:14 pm EST

These guys are about FUN.
They rock out and dont give a f*ck what you or I think. Total pro’s and legends.

It’s all a laugh for them.

Respect.

RPM | 7/31/2009, 9:54 pm EST

I was really hoping for the best with these guys. A singer with pipes, a guitarist and drummer with chops, and a bassist..with good high harmonies. Unfortunately, they sleepwalk through these songs. Mediocre at best.
