Eminem’s Pill-Popping “Relapse” Cover Hits the Web

4/21/09, 1:26 pm EST

This is evidently the stunning cover of Eminem’s Relapse, courtesy of our favorite hip-hop blog Nah Right. The artwork features a portrait of Slim Shady sculpted from pills of assorted shapes, sizes and colors. T.I. utilized a similar technique for his Paper Trail cover, but where Relapse is a mosaic created out of medicine, Paper Trail is a collage composed of ripped-up memos and folded dollar bills.

It might be a little hard to read, but that sticker on the lower-left hand corner of the cover is in fact part of the artwork. It reads “Mathers, Marshall, 8 Mile Road, Detroit, Michigan,” “Refills: 5-19-09″ (the album’s release date) and, most notably, “Prescribed By Dr. Dre.” And for those who maybe worried that maybe Em has lost his edge during his years out of the spotlight — despite his celebrity-bashing “We Made You” — the album notes “Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.”

As Rock Daily previously reported, Relapse is the first of two Eminem albums due out this year, giving designers a couple months to figure out how to create a Slim Shady portrait out of syringes and IVs. “Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months,” Eminem said. “We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff.” Eminem will also perform at the MTV Movie Awards on May 31st.

Big year for the Family : This for my son,and the Allman Brothers Band’s 40th Anniversary, which we’ll attend together when they get to town.

Jere | 4/21/2009, 2:10 pm EST

Hm. Meh.

btw, we worry he lost his edge BECAUSE of “We Made You,” not in spite of it. It’s a dated concept (thanks to the instant-reaction afforded by blogs) with dated references to dated celebrities.

Still will probably pick up Relapse, though. Sometimes I can’t help but act a fool.

Denton | 4/21/2009, 2:28 pm EST

Does he do any other comedy songs, or maybe some “Weird Al” type parodies?

I can understand how some core music fans didn’t like the “We Made You” or its overall tone. Yet lyrically it was still technically high quality. But you would have to be completely oblivious not realize that the its the labels formula he has to follow to some extent. Also, many rock fans are delusional in my opinion when they talk about substance and are so critical of certain artists outside of their genre. I am a huge rock fan but you cannot argue that the majority of mainstream rock is just as much if not more formulaic and watered down (following the same themes coneptually and formulas musically) than some of the garbage mainstream Hip Hop that is out there. Take U2 for instance. They are a great band but this last album was absolutely terrible. There is no way Relapse can be anywhere near as horrible as that. Eminem is one of the greatest artists of our time. To rule out an entire album because you didn’t like one single does not make you intelligent, it makes you a hater.

SLIMESHADY?
Marshall NO talent………
You wouldn’t know actual talent if someone was walking a tight rope with one leg, carrying a 75lb. of xenadrine, whistle’n dixie through a straw, drink’n holy water, in the pitch black, 2300ft. in the air!

I don’t like the song, and I am a big fan/defender of Eminem, I have been since I first heard ‘My Name Is’. So….I am not writing him off yet, hopefully this will be one of the worse songs on the album, not one of the best. I am a bit worried though, he’s been on a downward spiral since the 8 Mile soundtrack.

Captain Molotov | 4/21/2009, 4:01 pm EST

This song is horrible period I can comfortably say that I think he is the best mc ever but he’s switched up his flow and subject to b more like the encore album which sucked and not more like the 1st 3 which he almos ripped every verse of every song I hope the rest of the album doesn’t have any of this bs this is 2 trashy songs in a row and I am worried we want old eminem hellbound eminem, still don’t give a f*** eminem, stan eminem, sing for the moment eminem, rock bottom eminem, criminal eminem, bitch please 2 eminem settle for less if not stay retired dude

Captain Molotov | 4/21/2009, 4:11 pm EST

Bad meets evil eminem, forgot about dee eminem, what’s the difference eminem , renegade eminem, soldier eminem, 8 mile eminem, the real slim shady eminem I know that he drops one of these silly songs for every album but screw u if u think these 2 new songs match my name is, real slim shady and without me cuz his flow is completely diff erent we don’t want ass like that eminem, or fack eminem screw the money is that’s motivation behind this big change of style

Captain Molotov | 4/21/2009, 4:13 pm EST

Amen emfan

I love Eminem’s SCOWL on the album cover… Life sucks, I’m not gonna smile…. he is just sooooo badass.

Er, actually, no.

Jerzy | 4/21/2009, 6:58 pm EST

He’s washed up. Not to mention he ripped off Balad of DJ Tanner on his new album.

His Prince Michael | 4/21/2009, 9:23 pm EST

What, dre-dre find someone else’s sounds AGAIN?

oooo | 4/22/2009, 12:52 am EST

the “we made you” song is just his formula of music in every album he has some song talking shit about other people then he does something serious that kicks ass and then the world is right again i just hope 50 cent hasn’t got to his head. hopefully this cd he goes outside his box and get other people on the album other the dre and 50, or any one else on the label.

The Intl | 4/22/2009, 1:44 am EST

Oooh, scowl you bad rap boy, scowl. What a douche. When was the last time you even DROVE down 8 mile? Maybe you shoulda listed Bloomfield Hills or whatever palatial suburb you stay at in LA. Any photo I see, anytime his face comes across my screen, it’s always that tuff boy poser scowl. I’d like to slap it off his face. So passe.

JJ | 4/22/2009, 7:38 am EST

I was hoping he would have grown as an artist, his single “we made you” is some boring sh!t. Like any of his original fans care about those pop stars he mocks. The rest of the album better be interesting otherwise it will just prove my theory that he peeked with the Eminem Show.

Sailbad | 4/22/2009, 11:34 am EST

Who is Eminem? Never heard of it.

scott | 4/22/2009, 11:41 am EST

The dearth of inteligence on this board is discouraging. In contemporary society only a hanful of rappers are relevant. Eminem is at or near the top of the list. If Lil Wayne, Slim Thug… took a self imposed hiatus would anyone miss them? A resounding NO. They would go the way of Silk the Shokker and Master P. A mediocre Eminem song is better than 90% of the stuff in the itunes to 100. Flo Rida right round???? Give me a break. If he didnt sample a popular 80’s pop song that song would be utterly forgettable. The only rappers in Eminem’s league are Bone Thugs (when they are on a major lable and well produced), Dre, Westside Connection (especially WC) and to a lesser exter, Chamillionaire. As far as Im concverned Kanye has 5 songs that are worth listening to, and Jay Z peaked in 2001.

DontlikeDontlisten | 4/22/2009, 12:35 pm EST

Can he come back as nasty as he can? YES! He can, can, don’t ask me this again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proof is in the pudd’n you dumb shits!

Rain on em EM!

T.B. | 4/22/2009, 12:54 pm EST

Hey Scott, dumbass, before you talk about the “intelligence”, or lack of intelligence on this board, how about learn how to spell the word.

THEDETOXG | 4/22/2009, 2:15 pm EST

this albums going to be hot. i have no doubt it will be because eminem is hands down the biggest rapper alive. HANDS DOWN his shit is off the mark with dre and if u dont agree ur simply stupid. NO rapper can touch what em did

This better not suck | 4/22/2009, 2:48 pm EST

seriously, i really hope this album is better than ENCORE..
the first single is average for such a great lyricist…

Dr. Dre didn’t actually really produce “We Made You”. An unknown producer Doc Ish produced the song and the singer on the hook is Charmange The Bill Boards said from Hartford, CT…same place Doc Ish is from..I went to look and found his myspace page to do some research.

2009 could be shadys best year

i think this album is amazing

you have to sit down on your own and concentrate on the album

i love it

Em fan since just dont give a | 5/14/2009, 9:34 am EST

I was on board for the first three cds and then gave up. This cd is no different. Em has lost the drive to make albums. This album should b an embarrasment to him. He is a lyrical genius that has fallen off his game. Ionno. Eminem is nothing he used to b. But hey. Thats why there are old cds to listen to
