Bat For Lashes, “Use Somebody” [Kings of Leon Cover]
There aren’t enough superlatives in the world to adequately describe how much S-M loves Natasha Kahn. This week, she pays homage to Rolling Stone’s cover with a version that makes us starry-eyed and weak-kneed.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Zero” [MSTRKRFT Remix]
Yeah Yeah Yeahs are fresh off a particularly noteworthy victory: managing to sound good on Saturday Night Live. This hyperkenetic MSTRKRFT remix feels like a suitable reward.
Various Artists, “Indocrunk Blend” [Bhangra Mix]
Friday field trip: a skull-rattling combo of Bahngra classics perfect for starting your weekend at, say, 2 in the afternoon.
Mobb Deep vs. Sigur Ros, “Shook” [Mashup]
Enterprising remixer combines Iceland’s moody auteurs with Prodigy and Havoc’s tale of madness and mayhem. Sadly, we do not get to hear what the line “Stab your brain with your nose bone” sounds like in Hopelandic.
Lush, “I Have the Moon” [Magnetic Fields Cover]
We want to start putting together a list of artists Stephin Merritt needs to save with his songwriting. Morrissey, for example, would be at the top of that list. But this gorgeous, sparkling cover of the Merritt chestnut “I Have the Moon” is causing us to carve out a special place for ’90s shoegaze also-runs Lush as well.
