Chickenfoot Supergroup Plot May Tour Dates

Chickenfoot, the supergroup featuring former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ drummer Chad Smith and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, have announced their first tour dates. The live gigs will lead up to the June 9th release of their self-titled debut album. While the band formed during jam sessions and performances at Hagar’s Cabo Wabo venue in Mexico, the dates reflect the first time the group has hit the road.

“We spent a lot of time together in the recording studio working long hours to make Chickenfoot live up to expectations,” Satriani — or as his lawyer jokingly called him, the “little guitar player” who is suing Coldplay — said in a statement. “We really feel like we’ve mastered it and recorded a great album but now we’re especially excited to take the show on the road and see how the fans react to it live. I think we are really going to feed off of the fan’s energy. We’re really that type of band.”

Sammy Hagar recently talked to Rolling Stone about his new band, calling their music, “Kind of like who we are. Like kind of Zeppelin, Van Halen — you know, hard rock-y, Rush-y, kind of progressive a little bit. Hard rock. Hard sophisticated rock.” Chickenfoot hits shelves of “all major retailers and digital services” on July 9th. Check below for their tour dates:

May 14 – Seattle, WA @ El Corazon
May 15 – Vancouver, BC @ Commodore Ballroom
May 17 – San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore
May 19 – West Hollywood, CA @ The Roxy Theatre
May 22 – Chicago, IL @ Park West
May 24 – Toronto, ON @ The Mod Club Theatre
May 26 – Cambridge, MA @ Middle East Upstairs
May 28 – New York, NY @ The Fillmore
May 29 – Philadelphia, PA @ TLA

Van Haggis | 4/14/2009, 7:47 am EST

Spammy Hagar? How many songs about “love” can one hack write?
Hey! Bass player! Nice Rug! Now…pass the hot sauce!

Greg | 4/14/2009, 9:14 am EST

“See you in chicago sammy.”

Perhaps the lamest sentence I have ever had the displeasure to read.

Let's Rock | 4/14/2009, 9:56 am EST

I hope this is some good rock. We need it! The members make it seem possible. Hey Mikey, Wolfie doesn’t deserve the sweat off your nut sack. Van Halen dies without Mike Anthony.

tony montana | 4/14/2009, 10:22 am EST

if this band’s first song released to the public is a glimps of how this band’s music will be then they fuckin’ suck!
hagar already blows goats with his barf face.

bob | 4/14/2009, 11:38 am EST

I lIke the tracks. Better than anything Van Halen would do these days.

C'mon get it right people | 4/14/2009, 12:31 pm EST

The name of this band is NOT Chickenfoot. It’s Van Halen, albeit Van Halen with an upgrade at guitar and drums! The tribute band with the wasted old game show host trying to sing, the second rate Jack Osborne clone, Keif Jr. and Keif Jr.’s brother needs to stop and hand Mike, Sammy, Joe and Chad their rightful name!

Let's Rock | 4/14/2009, 3:54 pm EST

Good comments.
Eddie has achieved his dream, throwing the Van Halen nation into an uproar. The guy is cleaver. I’m not sure of the improvements at guitar and drums, Alex and Eddie are about the best. Chad and Joe are damn good. I cannot possible think that the next album/CD/MP3 from Van Halen is going to be any better than VHIII. Remember how bad that was!! Kill me! Too much Eddie not enough of the band.
Van Halen is Dave or Sammy, Alex, Eddie and Mike. Let’s make it a twin bill of Dave and Sammy, Alex, Eddie and Mike, leave the kids at home and f%$#ing rock!! I hope that this new band can bring it because we damn surely need it!!

Tony Sucks! | 4/14/2009, 6:33 pm EST

Hey Tony, you suck. I get it you never, I mean Ever liked Sam. So, your opinion is crap. If you ever liked one song of Sam’s then you could have a reasonable opinion but I’ve listened to the three songs by Chickenfoot and they all are good. I don’t know what you want but this is better than anything VH has done since Balance.

C'MON | 4/14/2009, 11:36 pm EST

If you dont like it don’t listen. What the fuck are the VH tools doing? Selling a bunch of gargage. Look at the VH news desk, it’s like Eddies Home Shopping Network. Eddie sucks, he’s washed up- Nice “solos” Ed, thanks for playing the same crap for the last 25 years. Ed, doesn’t deserve to licks Satch’s ass after he takes a dump

You guys all suck. I listened to the songs and they were all good. Quit raggin on Sammy and Satriani like that. Sounds like your all jealous of the popularity!!!

randy c | 5/18/2009, 3:20 pm EST

I heard an interview on Lewis and Floorwax here in Denver with the Drummer, sounds like a very good guy……..they also played a song from the new album coming out,,,,,,,personally I thought it rocked……..can’t wait to get the CD……Having played the Drums for fourty years, I know a little about music…….this band will do great on tour……

I am a big Sammy Hagar fan and the tracks I heard so far I liked….I saw Sammy last yr in Atlanta and he put on an awesome show! I think they will rock the house in concert.

Ernie Houle | 5/28/2009, 8:24 am EST

It was downstairs, must have been a typo. I was at this show and this band kicks ass. It’s nice to finally see a band that knows how to rock..

Teri | 5/29/2009, 6:13 pm EST

Chickenfoot rocks. Only 1 more week till the album comes out. I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!

TERRY | 6/8/2009, 12:15 am EST

Fucking awesome rock, the way it’s supposed to be. For you VH fans, take Roth’s mediocre voice and crappy showmanship and continue on the classic rock circuit. Too many fans have their heads up their asses thinking their listening to twenty-year-old-plus music as if it’s as good as it was then. The cool thing about Chickenfoot is they don’t need the bucks, they genuinely love the music. Satriana smokes and Sammy is in fine gear. The entire band has a fresh sound and I’ll be seeing them in Toronto and look forward to an awesome show.

Megale in your face | 6/9/2009, 11:07 am EST

Sit down Waldo!! Look quit watchin PBS for your takes on “What is a totally different group.” If you did not see VH in their last tour with DL you missed the gang in great shape and running the stage. Sammy needs to losse some freakin weight and is only saved by his voice talent. Dave and Eddie they are always the best. And never needed to do a check to see if fans would buy tickets. They sale out huge arenas and are Front man and guitarist extrordiare. SO enjoy this little extention!! The type of Rock that I play in my car.

oscar | 6/13/2009, 5:48 pm EST

as someone who saw Chickenfoot in LA, all I can say is its Chickencrap. If you are looking for a lap around a well worn track of boring anthem driven shout out choruses about girls, tequila and hanging out in Baja, this may be your thing. For those of us that outgrew that at 15, you may want to look elsewhere for entertainment. Joe Satriani couldn’t play rhythm guitar if his life depended on it. Then you have Chad Smith in the band and you play NOTHING funky? That should be illegal. This is the definition of contrived supergroup. Chad Smith in particular is way to cool for this band. His solo project (Bombastic Meatbats) is what everyone should be checking out.

Jones | 6/14/2009, 8:21 pm EST

Chickenfoot:

Quality music. Quality vocals. Quality beats. Only one ballad.

Great effort. It’s exactly what the world of rock needs…..new music from great musicians……not reunion tours.

Detroit Rock City | 6/14/2009, 10:13 pm EST

It’s all good. It’s only rock-n-roll. Just sit back and watch the fire works. Detroit awaits.

Brad | 6/17/2009, 12:29 am EST

I’ve played guitar for 30+ years and followed Van Halen since they were an opening act for Black Sabbath in 1978. I’ve also followed Joe Satriani’s career since he started and I can tell you this. Satch is not only more technically accurate, but his knowledge of his instrument and music in general frankly puts Eddie to shame. Don’t get me wrong, I love Van Halen, just Joe has kept up on his homework and Eddie has got complacent. (Getting rid of Micheal Anthony was a BAD IDEA EDDIE) I know you want to jam with son Wolfy, but Micheal brought more to Van Halen than people think. He’s not only a great bass player, he’s a helluva vocalist. Eddie is coasting into oblivion and Satch still has the burn to learn!

Soap on a Rope is a refreshing classic hard rocker that beats the hell out of most of the stuff out there now.

AUSSIE ROCKER | 6/20/2009, 3:42 am EST

mark from Detroit | 8/9/2009, 12:58 pm EST
