Aerosmith and ZZ Top Announce Summer Tour Dates

Aerosmith and ZZ Top have announced the dates and cities they’ll visit on their joint tour this summer. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers‘ jaunt will kick off June 10th with a show in St. Louis, Missouri, and run through the entire summer, covering most major markets before concluding — as of now — with a September 16th show in Detroit. Live Nation is handling the ticket onsale, and venue information is slowly emerging on the service’s Website.

When Rolling Stone caught up with Joe Perry backstage at last week’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the guitarist said he was pumped about touring with world’s most famously bearded band. “That’s just amazing to be able to play with them because it’s going to be a kickass show,” Perry said, adding that Aerosmith would reinvigorate their set lists this time around. Perry also told RS that Aerosmith’s new album has been delayed, but they’re aiming to finish it after the tour wraps.

While venues for the majority of shows hasn’t been announced — details for just three shows were announced last week — it’s easy to guess what amphitheater or arena the tour might hit by looking at the itinerary. For instance, Wantagh, New York’s show will obviously take place at the Nikon at Jones Beach, the Holmdel, New Jersey show will be at the PNC Bank Arts Centre, Uncasville, Connecticut is Mohegan Sun, etc. Guess the venue in your market by checking out the full tour dates below — and stick with Rolling Stone for the most updated news on the Aerosmith/ZZ Top tour.

So that means the average age on stage will be 147 years old and I bet tickets for the “pay off the ex wife tour 4″ will cost about the same

Harm410city | 4/13/2009, 11:39 am EST

the June 21 date is actually in Bristow VA @ Nissan Pavilion, its not in DC as listed. Well according to LiveNation anyway.

I’d like to see Aerosmith come back with a raw, tight, strong rock record devoid of radio ballads.

If Metallica can channel “Puppets” with their newest album, why not have these guys go back and use “Rocks” as a template for their new record?

Unless Aerosmith comes back in 2009 with a strong effort, I don’t see how they continue to avoid falling into the abyss that swallowed KISS years ago.

ZZ Top always delivers and appear uninterested in performing with Brittany and Justin or catering to the Y Generation. They do what they do, and still deliver solid blues/rock efforts.

ZZ Top will push Aerosmith every night and this should be a fun tour because of that.

bestofclassicrock.com | 4/13/2009, 12:11 pm EST

Richard- I agree, ZZ will push Aerosmith. I’d love to see them pick an old album (like ROCKS) and play it start to finish!

The Seeker | 4/13/2009, 12:23 pm EST

The past few ZZ Top tours have consisted almost entirely of their greatest hits (which isn’t a problem as they’re all fantastic), but I wonder if they’ll bust out some of the new tunes…

Kurt's Corpse | 4/13/2009, 12:23 pm EST

This tour will be awful.

flank | 4/13/2009, 12:43 pm EST

I wish ZZ Top would concentrate on finishing the new album and then tour.
Same for Aerosmith.
Two great bands!

Anonymous | 4/13/2009, 1:19 pm EST

These two bands are perfect for each other. Both bands are a bunch of grandpa rockers.

It’s not just their age. Everyone gets old, but these guys have taken it too far. They could have gone out while they were still relevant. I guess they need the money. Enough already.

Jon G. | 4/13/2009, 1:53 pm EST

I see it just the opposite: The Top sounded like crap last year – hopefully, Aerosmith will be in fine form, pushing ZZ to improve.

T | 4/13/2009, 2:18 pm EST

anyone who’s a fan of these bands has seen them already. now they’ll be playing shorter sets. great music, but not real exciting tour announcement.

Flush | 4/13/2009, 2:23 pm EST

Forget all of these nay-sayers. I’m sure this concert will be amazing.

MisterHate | 4/13/2009, 3:13 pm EST

I would love to see Tyler and his buddies retire. One Billy Gibbons solo would blow anything away that Aerosmith has to offer.

Wayne Campbell | 4/13/2009, 4:03 pm EST

Aerosmith and Pearl Jam…

bub | 4/13/2009, 4:26 pm EST

no san antonio show!!! wtf

Steve | 4/13/2009, 4:53 pm EST

This is gonna be great! Now if we can get a confirmation that Guns N Roses and Van Halen are touring together – that would make it the ultimate summer to ROCK!!!

Anonymous | 4/13/2009, 5:24 pm EST

I love Aerosmith i would love to go to the st.paul Show

dream on | 4/13/2009, 5:27 pm EST

aerosmith is the greatest band of all time next to metallica all of u dont know what your saying get over yourselves and stop hateing on aerosmith

sirloin | 4/13/2009, 6:59 pm EST

Guns N Roses should NOT tour with vulgar Van Halen. I hope that never happens.
Even without Duff and Slash GnR is several cuts above Van Halen who mainly play escapist comedy music.

coyoterdog | 4/13/2009, 8:45 pm EST

if you don’t like these two great bands, don’t go!

bicuspid | 4/13/2009, 9:48 pm EST

I will not go to any of these shows.
I love ZZ Top.
I love Aerosmith.
I have all their albums.
But I don’t want to get pissed on by an ex-cop.

old and sloppy | 4/13/2009, 9:58 pm EST

These two bands were awesome years ago but along with old age comes sloppy playing. Stick to recording where everything is crisp and clear thanks to producers.

Josh | 4/13/2009, 11:17 pm EST

Wow, I can’t wait to not go see this.

Tickets | 4/14/2009, 1:24 am EST

Does the world still really need bands with glitsy “fashion show” frontman? I want to see steven as much as i want to see Axl Rose run around on stage with nothing but a speedo. Bands that really do know how to rock dont have to rely on such cheap onstage theatrics. These gimicks are used to attract drunken idiots.

Go VH! | 4/14/2009, 2:43 am EST

“Guns N Roses should NOT tour with vulgar Van Halen. I hope that never happens.

“Vulgar Van Halen?” Wow…just…wow. Hey, do me a favor and listen to “Get in the Ring” from “Use Your Illusion,” or “One in a Million” and “Used to Love Her” from “G N R Lies.” That Guns N’ Roses…such a wholesome band!

That said, I couldn’t care less about the lyrics of either band. I’m concerned about musicianship. To me, both are stellar bands. Axl and DLR’s voices were wonderfully distinct and powerful, I thought. Eddie’s an amazing player and riff-writer, and few bands could work a groove like Guns.

Also, bear in mind that Slash listed Eddie as one of his big guitar heroes growing up. So, not exactly a lot of bad blood betwixt those two camps.

Ooo, I got another! Listen to “It’s so Easy” from “Appetite from Destruction.”

Sergio | 4/14/2009, 9:09 am EST

Gimme old Aerosmith/ ZZTop any day of the week instead of the crap ‘current artists’ that clutter the airwaves!

Anonymous | 4/14/2009, 9:43 am EST

Axl is a talented screw ball. His fellow musicians can’t stand to play with him for more than one tour. He has a history of treating the fans like crap by showing up late to concerts and missing them entirely.

Van Halen should go it by themselves. They give the audience what they want and with the price of tickets these aritists should.

lokin’ forward to this tour

Steve F | 4/14/2009, 11:46 am EST

Aerosmith is my favorite band and
one of the best live bands ever.
I have seen them 17 times going back to 1976 and even though I like
ZZ Top I’m a little disappointed. When Aerosmith co-headlines
a tour you get kind of a condensed
version of a show. Oh well, still looking forward to Cincy.

Anonymous | 4/14/2009, 6:28 pm EST

Got tickets to see them in Pittsburgh on June 24th. Will probably be the best concert I ever get to go to! This is going to rock!

Diencephalon | 4/14/2009, 10:41 pm EST

I would like to see these bands but can’t handle their loud volume and drunken fans.
If only they would schedule a few quiet shows somewhere at a carpeted dinner theatre maybe I could attend.

Anonymous | 4/14/2009, 10:47 pm EST

ZZ is the greatist, aerosmith should be the opener…

shank | 4/14/2009, 11:42 pm EST

I prefer ZZ Top myself but Aerosmith has a more charismatic frontman so I think it would be better if they closed the show.

Mish | 4/15/2009, 3:17 pm EST

Not thrilled with this pairing; but that’s life. What they are charging for tickets is disgraceful.

rockerchick | 4/15/2009, 3:20 pm EST

love aero, hate the tkt prices—insanity! especially in a recession! gonna listen from the pkg lot!

BigDawg | 4/15/2009, 3:40 pm EST

AEROSMITH and ZZ BORING! This should be the lamest show of the summer. Saw both back in the 70’s rank as some of the worst music and shows I ever had to be at. Even drugs did not help!

AEROSMITH and ZZ boring. Both sucked in the 70’s horrible music and shows. Even drugs could not help.

“jasmine”:

This list only shows the US dates. Aerosmith/ZZ are playing in Vancouver in August, as well as many of the other large Canadian cities that month.

rosemarie | 5/28/2009, 7:49 pm EST

a little disappointed that aerosmith is not coming to portland maine on this tour. on past tour they have come to our city and have always immediatly sold out. we may not be as large as some of the other venues they play at but we are as loyal as any of the people that attend those shows. i pray they remember us who cant get to all the larger venues because of the distance and the money for travel that is added to the price of the tickets. the price for myself and husband and my 16 yr old son and 13 yr old daughter just dosent allow it. come on back AEROSMITH PORTLAND MAINE IS WAITING FOR YOU!!!!!
