Guns n’ Roses’ “Chinese Democracy” Coming To “Rock Band” April 14th

4/10/09, 9:14 am EST

Get ready to sing like Axl and emulate whichever guitarist is in Guns n’ Roses these days: Gn’R debuted their song “Shackler’s Revenge” on Rock Band 2, and now Axl Rose will bring the rest of Chinese Democracy to the music video game on April 14th as a new batch of downloadable content. Thirteen tracks off Chinese DemocracyRock Band is assuming you’ve already beat enough challenges to add “Shackler’s Revenge” to the in-game track list — will be available both in bulk and as individual tracks for Playstation 3 and XBox 360, while the Wii will only sell CD as individual tracks.

At least Axl is finally doing something to promote this album after failing to tour (so far) or give interviews through conventional channels or even release that video for “Better” that’s just sitting on a editing dock somewhere. As the album has failed to reach sales expectations since its release as a Best Buy exclusive on November 23rd, making the entire LP available to players might expose Axl’s long-in-the-works Chinese Democracy to a larger audience, ingraining itself into the skulls of users who might not have cared for “Street of Dreams” at first listen. Plus, people seem to use the Rock Band and Guitar Hero series as a way to discover new music. We have a friend who had never heard the Cars’ self-titled album until it became available in its entirety on Rock Band 2 in May 2008. Rock Band is the new MTV.

While tracks like “Better” and “Scraped” seem almost tailor made for a Rock Band release, we’re curious how the ballad “This I Love” will make the jump to Rock Band as it’s all piano and vocals until the guitar solo kicks in around the three-minute mark. Chinese Democracy was ranked Rolling Stone’s 12th best album of 2008. Gn’R become the latest band to have an entire album playable through RB, joining the Pixies, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Megadeth, Judas Priest and more.

Fucking Awesome,

NOW AXL

RELEASE A FUCKING MUSIC VIDEO GOD DAM IT!

Oddjob | 4/10/2009, 10:02 am EST

People aren’t giving Chinese Democracy enough credit. It’s easy to make cheap jokes and knee-jerk judgements about it but it really is a great album, even if it is clearly the sound of an insane person.

“Chinese Democracy”, “Street of Dreams” and “Better” stand up alongside almost anything Axl Rose has done.

Ed | 4/10/2009, 10:20 am EST

agreed on both points. whats so difficult with releasing a music video, and many never gave the album a chance.

and announce the freaking tour already. i’m tired of all this bullshit

jsbrain | 4/10/2009, 11:29 am EST

Yes this is a great cd but no matter how Axl tries to distance himself from Slash, its just silly, these guys are like were like the left and right arm of their body of music created. It suck for us fans seeing this sort of crap like a bad divorce. They should or Axl should work through what ever the hell their differences are.History will show that they were a larger part of rock than they are now wasting there creative energy on their own ego’s now. They could have probably put out a 4 cd if they worked together, and Duff and Izzy Stradlen they are all clean and sober now, that was the real problem. A crying waste of creativity………

jsbrain | 4/10/2009, 11:35 am EST

As well as Slash too, as for Steve Adler I dont really know if he can really drum or not anymore after what he’s been through. Oh well Maybe they’ll come to there senses when their in the 60’s..LOL

Jsbrain | 4/10/2009, 11:58 am EST

Its unfortunate that its us fans that have to suffer through their little differences like a bad divorce. Yes I love velvelt revolver and this new gnr cd but the band that got them to be who they are is whats missing that heart, no matter how Axl tries to distance himself from his right arm, Slash will always be remembered with his name and vise versa. Its a crying shame to see this nonsense go on, and on. Maybe they need to remember what they had before they became who they are, and why they are where they are. They are all clean and sober now which was the greatest problem likely. They got their money their all damn good musicians Duff and Izzy included in this whole comment as well.

Jsbrain | 4/10/2009, 12:00 pm EST

sorry I wrote the same comment twice did not think the last one went through.

Anonymous | 4/10/2009, 12:02 pm EST

Why do people give a shit what this guy does. Axl was a joke then and hes worse now. He has always been an asshole, and always will be one. I might have liked him if he didnt tell me to go fuck myself and go home, when i spent my hard earned money to try to go see him live back in the day. Id respect it a little more if it were called axl rose and friends.

Cloudman | 4/10/2009, 12:16 pm EST

Ugh. I don’t have anything against GnR but Shackler’s Revenge was fucking terrible in-game. I can think of countless other classic albums that are far more deserving of a Rock Band release then this pile.

eddierose0608 | 4/10/2009, 12:29 pm EST

Finally really wanna get rockband2 mainly for this! about time CD gets the promotion it deserves well worth the 14 year wait!!!

Lily | 4/10/2009, 12:36 pm EST

Wow! Now I will start playing Guitar Hero. Thanks Axl for the great record. Actually I become a fan of rock music after my friend bought me the CD( Chinese Democracy.

??????? | 4/10/2009, 12:51 pm EST

Chinese Democracy is like Appattite just great rock.

C | 4/10/2009, 1:18 pm EST

Guns N’ Roses consist of

Vocals: Axl Rose

Lead Guitar: Ron Thal

Lead Guitar: DJ Ashba

Rhyme guitar: Richard Fortus

Bass Guitar Tommy Stinson

Drums: Brain, Frank Ferrer

Synth, Keyboards: Dizzy Reed, Chris Pitman.

Guns N’ Roses will Tour this summer or fall. Hope that clears everything up about this band.

MegaSudz | 4/10/2009, 1:22 pm EST

Who cares anymore. Chinese Democracy shot its load turned over and went to sleep, and left us wanting more.

Anonymous | 4/10/2009, 1:29 pm EST

This band, whoever is in it at the time, has been so unreliable it is quite funny that the big exposure for this defeated album is a video game.

Is all of this still Slash’s fault? I’m sure there is a long explanation as to why it is all Slash, Duff, and Izzy’s fault.

I cannot believe Best Buy agreed to do the album. They obviously lost money on the deal. I’m sure they have a few extra million copies sitting around on the shelves.

p | 4/10/2009, 1:34 pm EST

i just want to know why? oh maybe just another way for axl to sell out, oh wait its going to bomb just like the record did.

Adam | 4/10/2009, 1:52 pm EST

I think Chinese Democracy is a fantastic album. Have been listening to it since Christmas. I been waiting for them to release the album on Rockband. Thanks Axl.

Dizzy | 4/10/2009, 3:13 pm EST

Whoo! Now I gotta go whore my self out cause I can barley afford to buy the whole album! CD is a great album, Slash is a hack, and Velvet Revolver has been dead since it formed.

Jeff | 4/10/2009, 3:23 pm EST

Monumental earth-shattering baby-killing Chinese D. promotion starts now!!!11!!

Seriously, go tour already and stop giving rambling tirade e-mail “interviews”.

Or as the song says, “shut up and sing”!

who gives a shit | 4/10/2009, 7:09 pm EST

who gives a shit

Dude Man | 4/10/2009, 8:46 pm EST

Velvet Revolver is amazing and Slash is no hack. I have only heard the title track and “Better” off GNR’s album( well Axl’s solo album under the GNR name). The title track’s not that great, but “Better” is alright. So far it’s no Appetite, but we’ll see. Isn’t “Street of Dreams” an old Rainbow song?

Greg | 4/10/2009, 8:52 pm EST

In my opinion, “Chinese Democracy” is a stunningly good album.

fried chicken | 4/11/2009, 12:01 am EST

chinese democracy (axls solo album) sucks.

deeznuts | 4/11/2009, 1:07 am EST

Now it’s time for The Cult to put out another shitty album!

. | 4/11/2009, 1:25 am EST

wow, now more people can realize how Korn-y and stuck in 1999 Axl has become and what a joke Chinese Whatever-it-was-called was.
The album flopped because people heard it on myspace and realized it was wretched and no amount of hype could save it.

Anonymous | 4/11/2009, 3:16 am EST

What? There was a new GnR album?

Pete | 4/11/2009, 5:45 am EST

Great. When’s the tour with VAN HALEN?!?!?

boness nik | 4/11/2009, 12:36 pm EST

fantastic

KC | 4/11/2009, 6:30 pm EST

Nice!

Anonymous | 4/11/2009, 8:17 pm EST

Was Chineese Democracy worth the wait? How can you people get wrapped up in Axl’s drama.I stoped being a fan of that man the day he told me to go fuck myself and go home, when i spent my hard earned cash to go see him. Who does he think he is Jim Morrison? If it were jim maybee id still think he was kool. But there are way to many other acts that are fresh and exiting in 09. I have no need to go see Axl Rose and Friends. ROCK ONN!!!

Hot! | 4/12/2009, 1:39 pm EST

Loved the album…may very well get the dlc on Rock Band for my next house party!

Rock on Axl

God, No... | 4/12/2009, 5:01 pm EST

Put Appetite For Destruction on Guitar Hero if you want the kids to hear REAL G-n-f’n-R. Chinese Democracy is a 14-year waste of time and money. Axl’s probably out of creativity because his real band left and he has no underwear models left to slap around.

nawaf | 4/13/2009, 1:46 am EST

Chi Dem a cool cd one of the best cds in 08 for me i kept it in the cd player for 2 month and it played day n night my pals they all liked it no one said a bad things about it but i never understood why do other in the USA and the UK always dis the cd was it worth the wait i didnt wait for it i did want to hear it and hear what Axl had been doing all this time but the truth that i didnt buy other cds and i did go to other gigs

Slash | 4/13/2009, 1:21 pm EST

Does anyone know where I can find Axl? He left his tampons in my car.

theCloser | 4/14/2009, 9:58 am EST

Axl has matured. You will find the music is more complex then what the original band was putting out 15 years ago. Chinese Democracy is like an old Pink Floyd album; the more you listen the better it gets. Axl voice is better, richer, and healthier than it was years ago. The band members that replaced the original band are as good in their own right, and actually bring a more modern sound to Gun N Roses. Chinese Democracy will eventually be deemed a rock and roll masterpiece.

Eureka | 4/14/2009, 5:44 pm EST

Now we’re supposed to care because…?

chuck | 4/15/2009, 8:25 pm EST

AXL IS NOTHING BUT A SPOILED FUCKING CRY BABY AND TATTOOED FREAK.HIS BAND SHOULD HAVE KICKED HIS JUNKY ASS,WHEN HE STARTED THROWING TEMPER TANTRUM,LIKE A GOD DAMN TWO YEAR OLD…..HE OWES ME MONEY WHEN WALKED OUT ON A CONCERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! THE SKINNY BITCH.

Tiggy | 4/16/2009, 10:38 pm EST

When I went to purchase the cd, the salesperson told me it was a cd that gets better with each playback. Absolutely correct! This cd is a true work of art, a lifes journey, love and loss, hope and dispair. As in great works of art, one needs to study it, hear it and feel it. Great Job Axl..

jim | 4/17/2009, 3:57 pm EST

tiggy, agree with u completly, Chinese is great and better than the illusions, I really like it.
Better, This I Love and Prostitute are ones to look out for

maria | 4/19/2009, 8:01 am EST

Chinese Democracy is really a fantastic album,I love it! With Rock Band everybody can know the great work for make this album and the talents of the new guys..I hope for a tour!!

Ed Davis | 4/20/2009, 8:33 pm EST

I bought the album on its release date and I bought the DLC on its release date. I openly admit, I don’t think it’s as good as the other earlier Gn’R stuff, but it is good music and I think, like many other posters have written, it does get beter with each listen. I hope they tour. I have seen three versions of Gn’R in concert and all were good. The songs are fun to play on Rock Band, but I’d be lying if I didn’t want a more classic Gn’R song pack to be released down the road, or even better, an entire Guitar Hero game.
