Metallica’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Performance Plus All-Star Jams Hit the Web

If you missed Metallica’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past weekend — or if your DVR screwed you over and cut off the band’s performance — you can catch it on Fuse’s Website now. The music network just posted highlights from this year’s Rock Hall ceremony from Cleveland (check ‘em out, above) featuring Metallica’s performance of hits “Master of Puppets” and “Enter Sandman” — a set that marked the return of bassist Jason Newsted, who was invited to the ceremony despite quitting the band in 2001. “I’ve been levitating all weekend,” Newsted said during his speech. The father of bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a tragic tour bus accident in 1986, also spoke, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea gave a fantastic induction speech.

Fuse also posted a pair of all-star jams featuring the majority of the night’s honorees: Spooner Oldham, Wanda Jackson, Jeff Beck, Little Anthony, Bobby Womack and many more sang “Jailhouse Rock,” while Metallica, Beck, Jimmy Page, Flea and special guest Ron Wood busted out “Train Kept A-Rollin’ ” for the Cleveland crowd.
Other highlights up at the Fuse site include Beck and Page’s awesome take on “Beck Bolero” and Eminem’s moving introduction speech for Run-DMC.

Metallica was great, and showed a lot of class in how to accept such an honor, even with older members.

Van Halen should have put their own egos aside and done the same.

One song with Sammy, one with Dave and then “You Really Got Me” as a 5 piece band, including Michael Anthony.

These moments only come once. It takes a complete idiot to blow it.

Congratlations to Metallica for doing it right.

Yeah, I love how Jason and Robbie were jammin together. Defintely better than Van Halen or Blondie. Loved the shout outs by James too, all those bands def deserve to be in if Madonna is in. Iggy and the Stooges too.

the performance was cool but the overall tone didnt sound to great due to havin 2 bassist on stage. i could barely hear james or kirk. and sandman was the last song i wanted to hear. but of course they had to play what is arguably their most popular song. whiplash or fade to black wouldve been nice to hear. i still think jason and rob shouldve played ‘anestesia (pulling teeth)’ together. that wouldve been sik as fuk!!

Rob and Jason playing “Anesthesia” as a tribute to Cliff Burton would have been sweet.

I agree “Sandman” is tired.I would have preferred this set:

“Master of Puppets”
“Anesthesia”
“Seek and Destroy”
“One”

drugs will do good, drugs will do bad. Take them at your own risk, LSD can make a person go crazy, it can also be an incredibly inspiring experience. The problem is, you don’t know which end of the spectrum you will end up on until you take it. It is for sure dangerous, but it is not the scourge of society. Taking it constantly, like anything used out of moderation, will damage you. Learn what you can, then leave it behind.

just wanna point out you forgot to mention joe perry from aerosmith in the train kept a rollin jam – the man played a friggin solo!

and yh, sandman was a bit predictable, would’ve been awesome if there was some more old school songs,but then again what kind of atmosphere could you get from a crowd of people in tuxedos?

was quite surprised they actually did puppets and not another black album song or somethng from the load-era

Ok I think metallica did a class thing by having both bassists on stage. To be honest I don’t care that the sound quality kinda sucked with two bassist with very different styles. It made thing of the world most famous and successful garage band jamming it out. As far as them playing anesthesia as a duet or even a solo? No. What would have set the tone even better would been for them to walk of the stage with anesthesia playing on tape with the stage dark with a sole spotlight on Cliff’s bass and maybe a picture of him like the one on his gravestone. That woulda set the tone perfectly

Metallica was a class act showed that despite any controversies, bad blood, etc. they’ve grown as individuals and place the importance of honoring the people that helped put them there past and present above all else. As for the double bassist thing sounding bad, I actually thought it sounded great.

They invited Dave Mustaine to come to the induction, but he turned them down. Anyway, even though I’m a huge Megadeath fan he still should not have been inducted with them because he didn’t play on any of the albums they did. He does have writing credits on some of the albums. Still if he was inducted than Ron McGovney would have to be inducted too. Also, thank God James requested the induction of a lot of bands that have been screwed out of this hall. I’m gald someone did it. I think the set list was good. I wish it could be longer though. Congrats Metallica and keep on rocking.

I really liked the performance a lot. I was surprised when James started playing the intro melody to “Sandman” but I wasn’t really thinking of it that much, I was just “levitating” and enjoying the moment. These guys could have played “Ain’t My Bitch”and I probably wouldn’t have cared at all.

I couldn’t see it until the end
but i would love if somebody can rate Jimmy Page’s performance. From what i saw, everybody want him to solo and i just didn’t see him stunning his guitar

well….they handled that with a lot of class. I could see no bad blood between any of the current band members and jason newstead. The performances were pretty good. Not the best I’ve heard from them, but still…..what a great moment for those guys.
