Sir Mix-a-Lot Likes Burger King’s Ad Money, Squarer Booty

4/8/09, 3:41 pm EST

Burger King has recruited one-hit-wonder Sir Mix-a-Lot to transform his classic ode to ass “Baby Got Back” into a commercial promoting their new SpongeBob SquarePants Happy Meal to kids. To give some background on the evolution of the single, “Baby Got Back” was once quarantined in late-night music-video blocks because MTV deemed it too sexual for prime-time television in 1993. Now it’s being used during college basketball commercial breaks to sell hamburgers to children.

As Gawker points out, the masterminds behind this campaign are also “teaching obesity and sexuality to your kids.” Still, 99ยข is a pretty good deal for a kids’ meal, and Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Booty is booty” cameo at the end is almost as funny as that “Get Dunked On By Patrick Ewing” Snickers commercial. It’s also the most action the good Sir has seen since his appearance with Blake Lewis on American Idol two years ago.

One-Hit Wonder?
No props to “Put ‘Em on the Glass”, Mix-a-Lot’s ode to the woman’s front side?

Anonymous | 4/8/2009, 5:21 pm EST

Spongebob/Sir Mix A Lot should have hooked up with Wendy’s instead.

The ’square butts’, remind me more of a Wendy’s burger, than BK.

Lauren T. | 4/8/2009, 7:53 pm EST

I find the square booty commercial obnoxious!

Gladys | 4/8/2009, 8:46 pm EST

I think this ad is the worst ever. What kind of example is Burger King setting for chldrend. Burger King is promoting a kids meal deal with a bunch of rump shaking adults no wonder children are so fresh and grown. I think this ad should be pulled.

JJ | 4/8/2009, 10:45 pm EST

Teens will love it and that’s all the matters. Old people’s comments are irrelevant. The comment about selling obesity to kids is ridiculous as all food commercials do the same thing. Advertising is not actually designed to be good for people. It is mostly designed to trick people into buying something they don’t need. That’s why media businesses are multi-billion dollar corporations.

Jenn | 4/8/2009, 11:06 pm EST

This commercial is disgusting! I am in my early twenties, so to JJ i am not old is this comment irrelevant?? I think this is a horrible example to set for children…I will not let my children see this and every time i see this it makes me want to avoid Burger King and Spongebob all together!

Sarah C. | 4/8/2009, 11:31 pm EST

This ad is very disgusting. Please stop running it on TV.

J_Andrews8081 | 4/8/2009, 11:39 pm EST

Just another example of how out of touch society is with good examples for kids….I’m sad to say I cant even convince my own boyfriend that things like that are damaging our kids’ sense of morality and decency

Holly L. | 4/8/2009, 11:57 pm EST

I’d never let my grandchildren watch this commercial and I can’t believe that the networks are letting it run during prime time. It’s degrading to women and just encourages the whole attitude of letting our children grow up too fast. Sponge Bob is for little children, not booty shakin admiring men! PULL THIS AD!!!!

Disappointed Parent | 4/9/2009, 2:12 am EST

I was a Sir Mix-a-Lot fan back in the day (and have to admit that I still find his music entertaining), but as the parent of a two-year-old who loves Spongebob I am completely disgusted by this ad. I sincerely hope that BK comes to its senses and pulls this ad ASAP. Unreal!!!

Disgusted | 4/9/2009, 2:24 am EST

This commercial is so out of line. It’s one thing to target teenagers, but to use an adolescent show like Spongebob is just unethical. I know it won’t matter, but I will not purchase anything from BK.

momof5 | 4/9/2009, 7:09 am EST

I agree that the commercial is both disgusting and degrading. I saw it for the first time yesterday and can’t believe that that is the image Burger King has decided to move toward especially when advertising a child’s (not teens) meal with a toy. We will not be getting the toy or going to Burger King again. Too many places to choose from to encourage things like this.

smh, PA | 4/9/2009, 10:13 am EST

I could not believe my eyes when this commercial came on last night. How low does Burger King have to stoop to sell a burger. I believe this ad should be pulled from airing. It’s obnoxious!!!! What message is that sending to children? Think about that?

triple k | 4/9/2009, 11:00 am EST

The whopper virgin commercials were ridiculous and now we have gyrating square butts!!!! who is making these decisions?? After seeing the commercial I thought of WENDY’s hamburgers and McDonald’s filet-of-fish. WAY TO Go burger king.

Lynn B | 4/9/2009, 11:24 am EST

That does not belong on a Burger King commercial especially promoting a kids meal. I think it should be taken off the air.Kids see and hear enough these days, stop already with the sexy women shaking their “bootys” in front of our kids. At the end when he says a booty is a booty,WHAT IS THAT!!!!.it makes me mad everytime I see it.Promote positive stuff for our children. You cannot be parents whoever came up with this trashy commercial.

BK Lover | 4/9/2009, 11:43 am EST

This ad is obviously not targeting children. It is meant for adults. After all someone has to take them to BK to get their kids meal. If you don’t like it then don’t go. I loved it. I’m sure most of you let ya kids watch much worse things on tv or play adult rated video games…

Whoa | 4/9/2009, 11:51 am EST

This is a hysterical commercial. I nearly fell off my couch. Yeah, the media is _BAD_ but a little slack should be granted once in a while for quality humor.

Crystal | 4/9/2009, 12:10 pm EST

I’m glad to see other people had my reaction to this commercial. At first I thought it was just stupid, but after thinking about it I got more and more angry. How could this possibly be for a kid’s meal? They need to pull it off the air and issue an apology. And fire their advertisers. I know it won’t make much difference, but I’m done with Burger King.

aaquint | 4/9/2009, 12:15 pm EST

It’s just sad. You are marketing this to kids? Whoever made the decision to air the sir mix-a-lot commercial should be fired immediately!!! I’ve heard that when you please people, they tell 3 people. However when a company insults someone, they tell 12. I’ll be telling at least 50. I’ll also be spending my money across the street to places that have family friendly advertising!

Msto | 4/9/2009, 12:31 pm EST

I’m shocked and appalled that RS considers Sir Mix-a-Lot to be a one-hit wonder. “Jump on It”? “Posse’s on Broadway”? Come on, now.

2rugrats | 4/9/2009, 12:41 pm EST

I cant believe Nick would approve this commercial for children. Did Burger King hire a porn exec. to come up with these commercials?

This commercial will not make my 8 year old or my 2 year want one of these meals.

Does everything have to be somehow turned sexual?

Phatdaddyshu | 4/9/2009, 2:05 pm EST

It’ really funny. Let’s see more of em’.

Wish you all were as worried about what our kids learn in school as you are about what is on TV.

By definition, you are a looser for even responding to this stupid article.

Mix is the best. Sea/Tac homeboys need to stay together.

Clark | 4/9/2009, 2:07 pm EST

As a fifth grade teacher I find this ad so obnoxious and inappropriate for kids. It is against everything we are trying to teach children about self image, relating to other people, and accaptance of peers. What a disgrace. It should be pulled and advertisers should grow a brain.

crazies | 4/9/2009, 3:16 pm EST

Really? Stop taking this so seriously…it’s a funny commerical! The target market for this commerical was most likely NOT watching the NCAA Finals…

Shelley | 4/9/2009, 5:58 pm EST

What a stupid commericial — as if that ridiculous burger king mascot wasn’t bad enough…who is in charge of their marketing / advertising…..so glad I own stock in McDonalds!!

Lauren | 4/9/2009, 7:11 pm EST

ok so i saw this commercail last nite and i was soo shocked!!! wat are we teaching our kids now n days….its ridiculous and this needs to b taken off the air and if u dont find anything wrong with this program then there is SOMETHING wrong with u……!!!

Anonymous | 4/9/2009, 7:48 pm EST

Has this been run during children’s programming, or just with shows geared more toward adults? There IS an adult audience for Spongebob, so if they want to target that specifically with this ad, so be it. But it would be in poor taste to actually run it along with the cartoons. Has anyone actually seen it during programming for kids?

concerned | 4/9/2009, 7:51 pm EST

This is sooo SAD!!! What has happened to our core values? Burger King is wrong to advertise sex to our children. The words Kids meal, Spongebob, and “Booty” do not go together. I will not be going to BK and I will encourage other families to boycott BK.

Loren 23yold | 4/9/2009, 7:52 pm EST

I cannot stand this commercial I have 2 children & 2 nieces and I don’t let them watch it. That is not what we need to let our kids think is right sponge Bob is for kids & “sir mix a lot” is for grownups don’t mix it. They show it on fox every time there is a commercial break. Take it off the air!!!

CC | 4/9/2009, 8:03 pm EST

What filth! Burger King should be ashamed for insulting women and children with this trash. It’s time for women to boycott them – that is the only message they will understand.

stooks | 4/9/2009, 8:04 pm EST

Burger King, your advertising team is biting you in the “Bootie”! Marketing to kids 2-8 with sex? Is your “Marketing team” full of a bunch of child preditors??? Hire a team that knows who they are marketing to!! I believe a requirement should be that they have taken Marketing 101!!

Anonymous | 4/9/2009, 8:19 pm EST

BOYCOTT BK till they take this stupid commercial off the air!!!

There is no reason to sell “Booty” to kids like like sponge bob. What the hell???

Lame…. There is a recession out there, hire a better marketer.

buildman | 4/9/2009, 9:37 pm EST

This is horrible. What message are they sending to our kids. Can not believe Nick in on board with this. Burger Kings ads get worse and worse. Who is their ad agent. Don’t every want to use them. Yes I stopped eating at Burger King.

CC | 4/9/2009, 10:21 pm EST

My 12 grandchildren love to eat at Burger King at least twice a month. We usually spend over $60 to feed all of them. We are shocked that this type of marketing is being used!! People who consider it funny may want to examine their values if they find humor in the exploitation of women and openly selling sex to our children. We will be taking the grandkids to McDonald’s until you pull this ad!

This ad and others are going way to far. I go to burger king alot, but not now.

Ronald McDonald | 4/9/2009, 10:45 pm EST

it’s sexist, and degrading, just simply put “inappropriate”..

the *only* thing that makes this so inappropriate, IMO, is that it is marketing a “KIDS MEAL”.. period.

“Bad Choice” BK!
(i eat at home anyways) :)

Jennifer | 4/9/2009, 11:22 pm EST

That commercial is so disgusting! That is the last thing in the world I want my child (who, by the way, loves Spongebob) to see. Who in their right mind puts an ad out to attract children by using a song about sex? What is wrong with them?

Get Real People | 4/9/2009, 11:35 pm EST

Is this really your biggest concern right now? I know. Let’s get the King to testify before congress.

BLB | 4/9/2009, 11:39 pm EST

My husband and I are soooo glad to see there are people that have been thinking the same as we do. The commercial is just down right ridiculous!!! What possesed burger king and nick to acually go through with this add?? I have 2 boys that get happy meals very often, I used to let them pick where to go. Now burger king is not an option!! Nick is not on my tv! I know that maybe just 1 channel that I don’t put on and that 2 less happy meals a week might not make a difference but I think if enough mothers take a stand we can!!!!

Gatorgirl | 4/10/2009, 12:02 am EST

OMG! Seriously people. This is just a commercial. My son and I thought it was the funniest thing. Y’all need to laugh a little. Just a commercial, that’s all.

Grandmother to be | 4/10/2009, 8:09 am EST

Ok Burger King… you have lost the business of one entire family! Come on you aren’t going to get more families with this one. Those of us with brains should BOYCOTT BURGER KING until this ignorant commercial is off the air. Lets not let women be degraded like this. THINK! Are we going backwards?

Dschluck | 4/10/2009, 9:31 am EST

I am boycotting BK until the ad is removed. Yes, my kids and grandkids food for their minds are much more important to than a cheap burger.

txsunflour | 4/10/2009, 10:44 am EST

What kind of ad agency have you hired and more importantly who approved this type of sexist commercial in the Burger King company???? I am in utter disbelief that this is on the air! I would not let my child watch MTV back in the booty shaking days because of this behavior and here you are not only using this as a tool to entice young people but you are using what is called subliminal advertising to tell kids this type of behavior is o.k.
SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!

Susan & Jan | 4/10/2009, 11:52 am EST

We are boycotting BK and suggesting that others do the same. Always thought your “King” was kind of creepy. Now the content of a kids commercial is disgusting & creepy.

Crossed the Line | 4/10/2009, 12:15 pm EST

Sometimes push back is needed to make sure responsibility does not disapperar altogether. Call Burger King and Nickelodeon and complain. This is pathetic marketing concerned only about making money with no thought about the children.

Typical.... | 4/10/2009, 2:01 pm EST

Typical sex-driven media. The people supporting this commercial are low-lives and will wonder why their kids will soon be making them “surprise” grandparents… before their kid even gets through high school. No morals anymore….

Bec30 | 4/10/2009, 2:26 pm EST

Oh come on BK, that commercial was BLATENTLY sexual in nature and you know it! JJ – how can you say that “old people’s oppinions don’t matter” it is people my age to whom that commercial is targeted (who actually remember that song when it was new and cool). Here’s the flaw in their reasoning: people my age are now parents trying to raise children in a time when it is growing increasingly difficult to shield our children from material of a violent or sexual manner that is not appropriate for them to view durring their formative years. Tell me honestly… If you had a daughter, would you approve of her dancing like that and allowing some guy to grope her?!!! This commercial is portraying young women in school girls clothing gyrating for an older man who is touching himself and them. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want my daughter thinking that is OK!

alphabegnaud@aol.com | 4/10/2009, 2:27 pm EST

As a life long consumer of BK. I have notice that the comercials that BK have been putting out lately have been on the risky side . With the creepy mascott, But this is where I draw the line . This is the most disgusting comercial I have witnessed in my life . What does a square butt have to do with a kids meal . Both BK and Nick should be ashamed . As for me and My family , we will no longer be eating anything from BK or Watching anything from Nick!!!

PennyD | 4/10/2009, 5:06 pm EST

It’s nothing but funny and silly!

Dennise | 4/10/2009, 5:06 pm EST

I was horrified when I saw this commercial- I believe in freedom of speech- but this is ridiculous. What about the children, After all they are the ones’s that choose to eat at Burger King. I don’t intend to take my family there anymore

Drake82 | 4/10/2009, 5:12 pm EST

Wowwwww, why is everybody getting so mad about this? When you saw this commercial did you think, “I want a kids meal!” Commercials dont change people opinions, and kids dont get their morals from television. I’m 15 years old, and this commercial only made me laugh. Maybe instead of sitting on your computers and watching tv. You should lighten up and take your kids to go do something fun.

zoobie | 4/10/2009, 6:55 pm EST

OMG! I laughed so hard when I saw the commercial! Lets face it, lots of people who are now 30 to 40 years old were at clubs watching the original Baby Got Back long ago, and now those of us in that age range ‘get it’ that this is a funny dig at a silly video. It shows BK is ready to laugh at itself (the line ‘makin me richer’ is priceless) and is clearly pitching this to a target audience that, like me, is going out for BK tonite.

Anonymous | 4/10/2009, 7:40 pm EST

This commercial is disgusting. BK should pull the ad. We will not be taking our daughter to eat there again! Some example you are setting for children

heidirosen | 4/10/2009, 7:48 pm EST

The problem wasn’t so much the commercial. It was no worse than anything else they show on tv. The problem I had with it they were targeting it to children, “kids’ meals.” Had the booty stuff been advertising a mens’ nightclub it might be a different story.

a concern mom | 4/10/2009, 8:21 pm EST

I WILL NO BRING MY CHILDREN TO BURGER KING NO MORE EVER AGAIN! THIS IS AN AWFUL COMMERCIAL AND BURGER KING SHOULD PAY FINES NOW I HAVE CONTACTED MY LAWYER TO SUE BURGER KING AND START A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

Househead in Chi-Town | 4/10/2009, 8:48 pm EST

I just hope Juan Atkins got royalties for BK to use that – Sir Mix-a-lot had stole the music for “Baby Got Back” from “Technicolor” by Model 500.

Anonymous | 4/10/2009, 9:51 pm EST

okay..honestly.
everybody just needs to get over it.
this commercial isn’t nearly as bad as half the stuff they put on tv. i personally thought the commercial was hilarious.
so some girls were dancing..
whoopdeefrickindoo.

Get over it | 4/10/2009, 11:17 pm EST

For every mom boycotting BK and getting upset, I will eat at BK 5 times and bring my friends.

Maybe if these parents were doing a better job at home, their kids wouldn’t be in front of the TV 24/7 anyway. Only YOU control what your kids watch….it’s not the job of companies.

..Jenny.. | 4/10/2009, 11:17 pm EST

those of us with brains should have something better to use our minds for than boycotting a COMMERCIAL. this is more ridiculous than any of you know.

Also | 4/10/2009, 11:28 pm EST

This commercial is NOT targeted to kids. It’s targeted to the adults who actually have to spend money on kids meals (if they buy an adult meal, the kids meal is only .99). I wish people would think before they post or “sue/boycott/trip”.

katie | 4/10/2009, 11:50 pm EST

Is this Songe
Bob “song” what we want little children to sing? Is this the dance we want the little children to imitate? What have they got for the ad agency, pedophiles who want to “groom” little children by desensitizing them to sexually explicit movements and dance? I am shocked at those who license the Sponge Bob characters would agree to this.

Squilliam | 4/11/2009, 12:01 am EST

Really, have any of the “disgusted” viewers ever seen Spongebob’s show itself?

The visual and audio content of the commercial are precisely aligned with the cartoon’s sensibilities in every regard.

Cochese | 4/11/2009, 2:17 am EST

As a parent, I laughed and rewinded it and showed it to my wife, who also laughed. Great marketing job; people who are offended by it probably have little sissy kids because the parents are a bunch of tools.

mumrock | 4/11/2009, 8:56 am EST

I am more bothered by the name “Bikini Bottom” in the SpongeBob cartoon than by this commercial.

burgertime | 4/11/2009, 10:31 am EST

I saw it on TV, then Googled it and saw this. LOVE it, it was the funniest parody I ever saw. PARODY. Look it up.

jodifl | 4/11/2009, 10:52 am EST

I wonder how many of the parents that are so offended are currently preparing their young daughters to go into pageants or cheerleading where chances are they are going to be even MORE objectified? Are they going to yank them off the squad when they come and have to learn a new routine to this song and “shake-that” on a football field?

Cyndy | 4/11/2009, 10:52 am EST

I called burger king headquarters to voice my opinion of this disgusting commercial.I don’t understand why it doesn’t bother people that it is not only stereotyping but it is supposed to be geared towards young children. The children in my family certainly will not be going there.

Cyndy Again | 4/11/2009, 10:56 am EST

I’d love to sit down and talk to the idiots who created this commercial and then the ones who approved it. No wonder kids in our society have so many problems nowadays. Just look at the role models they’re presented with.

cyndy hater | 4/11/2009, 11:07 am EST

chick….get a life…you’re making my coffee taste bad. Get off the computer and go spend time with your kids.

LifeInUnemploymentLine | 4/11/2009, 1:02 pm EST

I think Burger Kings commercial people are on drugs

Rosie O'Grady | 4/11/2009, 4:11 pm EST

I think it’s a subliminal sexual message for kids and BK knows it. It encourages boys to look at girls butts and girls to shake it for them (the boys) and it’s aimed for YOUNG children!!I can just see 2-6 yr. olds imitating the “dance”. They get enough of this when they’re older. The camera just zoomed in on the “square butts” over and over and over…. Let kids sbe kids, will ya!!!!

common sense | 4/11/2009, 4:19 pm EST

What is wrong with all of u listen parents the commercial is maybe a little over the edge but come on kids are going to be exposed to this were not in the 50s so there and people defending I think u should rewatch it and tell its a little over and for real u can’t endorse everthing so the oldies do would they want consider everything I’ve said calm down people and kids please understand your parents who get repusled trust me they actually had the real song they probaly had u to it ha thanks ps I’m 12

common sense | 4/11/2009, 4:22 pm EST

The mcdonalds clown is problay a pedophile so reconsider the ad

Gigi | 4/11/2009, 7:46 pm EST

to cyndy hater and common sense:
are you for real? allowing burger king to exploit and stereotype women is a disgrace and poor judgement. Only those who are uneducated and naive are the ones who find no harm in this commercial. Shame on you burger king!!!!!!!!

booty lover | 4/11/2009, 8:35 pm EST

ok – so when booty call comes, your kids will be ready (all they’ll have to do is look for someone that looks like the guy at the end of the commercial to work for)…

rmkchi | 4/11/2009, 9:28 pm EST

All I can say is Burger King ads are not young kid friendly. The ads,so many to mention, give yours/mine/our kids BAD stereotypes and bad judgment calls.
BRING BACK THE OLD CARTOON KING!!!!!
I don’t eat here anymore. Bad commercials & bad food

Chiefd2 | 4/11/2009, 9:29 pm EST

The commercial is offensive and needs to pulled. I wonder where the outrage is from the African-American community.

OutOfTouch | 4/11/2009, 10:08 pm EST

Just happened to see this commercial one night. I only have one channel where I live “bunny ears.” with terrible reception. Had a friend over who HAD to have the tv on!! So don’t watch tv EVER. Neither do my kids in my house unless it’s a movie I get for them. It is offensive yes. That is why we have no tv watchin’ at my house. I noticed all the people who loved the commercial were men or males and the ones who disliked it were women. Hmmmmmmmmmm

TwoTimeLoser | 4/11/2009, 10:17 pm EST

I don’t think just anyone would have done this commercial. Eminem wouldn’t have I don’t think. He thinks too much of his kids. LL Cool probably not either or Will Smith…Just Sir Mix ALot, or any other “one Hit Wonder” would do this obscene stuff geared for kids. Maybe Billy Ray Cyrus would have done it to boost himself up too had he been asked first. It is gross advertising but nothing is a shock to the American public anymore.

chups | 4/11/2009, 10:57 pm EST

I can’t believe this ad… BK …
They are trying to corrupt young kids with this ad… disgusting!!!

Love it | 4/12/2009, 12:30 am EST

Great commercial. Hilarious. But then I don’t feel sinful, shameful, and dirty about my natural desires like you all do.

Ginger | 4/12/2009, 2:10 am EST

The best way to show my opinion of this …Ad… is to promise NEVER to buy another product from this company again. I’ll vote with my wallet.

suzyq | 4/12/2009, 3:37 am EST

To “Love It” This has nothing to do with you or your natural desires. This is about BK being irresponsible in their advertisement.

For those who say it is funny – “Those who laugh at anything will most likely fall for anythin” You can tell a persons character and morals by what they find to be humorous.

For those who say lighten up this commercial is geared toward adults, you should be angry that BK thought so low of you as a consumer that they stooped to such a low level to get in your pockets. They said you are of such low intelligence that will just make you think sex and you’ll spend your money! Dah! I guess they had you pegged.
I hate this commercial and will be taking steps to contact the company and voice my disgust. My family does not eat at BK but I will contact others who do. I HAVE NEVER ALLOWED MY CHILDREN TO WATCH SPONGE BOB! I preview everything my kids watch and found it to be not what I wanted my 7 and 9 year old to watch. BK, pull the commercial!!!!!

GS & JM | 4/12/2009, 5:01 am EST

Since when do we have to have a “dirty old man” selling burghers to our children. Makes us mad and upset everytime we see this ad. McDonalds here we come…

Kevin | 4/12/2009, 5:47 am EST

It is sick and a shame mix alot sold out to them, i know who not to listen to now on my stereo. No they don’t twist your arm to come in and eat but it is advertised as a good thing and everything they serve is garbage with no values of good or bad. They should be sued and put out of business. if you like your internal organs stop eating there!

anonymous | 4/12/2009, 5:43 pm EST

I will no longer be eating at Burger King. This commercial is way too sexualized for any adult, not to mention a child. Burger King went way to far in their attempts to get children and families through the front door. This commercial is out of line.

melissa | 4/12/2009, 9:06 pm EST

i work at burger king and i thought that the commercial was absolutely great! our sales have not gone down whatsoever since the commercial and they have not gone up either. so you can keep boycotting or whatever you guys do but our business is still booming and i dont think a few people are going to stop the whole world from coming to BK!

Quite frankly, the commercial is disgusting. Apparently Burger King has been hit by the economic crisis and chose to use “booty” to sell Kids Meals. What a disgrace.

Sean Blueart | 4/13/2009, 1:42 pm EST

It’s not just a commercial, it’s culture, and it’s a fitting contribution to that culture. It’s an oppressive, stinking, expensive contribution to our culture that will stick. Someone WILL BENEFIT from blurring the lines between dehumanizing images of women and selling something to children. I wonder who that will be. I wonder who might loose out? any ideas?

Hey! RELAX! It’s only degrading!

Squid | 4/13/2009, 5:55 pm EST

I thought it was a great ad. I’m going to BK for a value meal and to pick up my 99 cent Spongebob toy.

HeyMelissa!!! | 4/13/2009, 6:45 pm EST

You work at BK? It only SEEMs like sales are the same because you work so hard at those gosh darned fast food places anyway. Believe me I know!! You don’t notice any decrease. You’re too busy too look up muchless notice customers. And then, you work hard for those kibbles and bits!

AndThenThereWasOne | 4/13/2009, 6:48 pm EST

Never go to Burger King period. But I’ll not stop going to Dollar General. Now, there’s a store that knows value in these tough times.

buffy | 4/14/2009, 12:22 am EST

I could not believe this ad! It was sick, degrading, and made me want to protect my child from Burger King’s creepy ways. I will be contacting the American Family Association (AFA) about this, I suggest other concerned parents, grandparents, and others to do the same. I do not plan on “making them richer” until they value our children. A huge thanks to McDonald’s for respecting our children and us as their parents who are the ones who take our children to these restaurants.

Corey | 4/14/2009, 4:30 pm EST

HA! Ha! Way to many old people! You guys need to relax. It’s really not that bad lol. People find the oddest things to complain about. I think we have enough problems in our lives with out creating drama over a burger comercial lol. Bottom-line, some needs alittle drama to livin up their boring life.

HaHa | 4/15/2009, 1:25 am EST

I love this commercial even more now knowing its pissing off you Puritans.

person | 4/15/2009, 2:56 am EST

the commercial made me laugh. i don’t eat at burger king and i don’t feel an attraction to square butts. but i may reconsider eating at bk just to piss some of you off :] love the ad, keep it up

Leah | 4/15/2009, 2:30 pm EST

Puritan? What is a Puritan?

a sanford | 4/15/2009, 3:00 pm EST

with all the great options of where to eat are any of the things you spend your money on. when any retailer does something this stupid i just dont ever spend another penny with them.

JunkFoodLover | 4/15/2009, 3:57 pm EST

People..BK only conjures up advertisements like this to hype people up and cause squabbling. It only boosts their Name and their sales. Better ignored. Everything is so sensationalized nowadays just for shock value only. Cheesh.

panda | 4/15/2009, 10:15 pm EST

I love it. It’s funny and clever. If you want an example of a marketing campaign that’s obnoxious and offensive to women, check out those horrible Axe ads. The BK/Mix-a-Lot commercial was fantastic.

So this is America | 4/15/2009, 11:57 pm EST

What a great culture and a wonderful impression that the good old U.S of A give to other countries. A Kid’s Meal…won’tchaknow advertisement using a catchy sexual nature song because no one could come up with a great marketing ad linking Spongebob for a toy! HAHA! BK is so smart. Give the people something to talk about, must be pretty desperate.

JunkFoodAddict | 4/16/2009, 12:23 am EST

Oh no, the AXE ads are appropriate, although sexist yes. They are aimed at men to get them to buy their product, not aimed at children.

JohnMichael | 4/16/2009, 1:42 am EST

This is particularly directed toward buffy. Did you seriously just say you want them to value your children? Even more so, you added ‘like McDonalds’. Neither of them value your children! I don’t eat fast food because it’s pretty much the absolute worst thing for you. I thought that commercial was dumb. That’s it, but I think all those corporations making the U.S. fatter should have some stricter limits. If everyone was healthier, the country would be a better place. You can’t argue with that.

Tracy | 4/16/2009, 11:09 am EST

BK knows that they’ll have to take the commercial off the air after enough buzz has been stirred up and all the little kiddies know to go see the “full – uncut” version on YouTube which is much worse (add a lecherous old nasty guy with a telescope and another guy with a magnifying glass both aimed at and zooming in on the square butts bouncing up and down).

The people that think this is funny – well you are the exact targets the BK advertisers crafted this ad for.

You are low income, low education, marginal consumers with low morals and a pocket full of change.

Have fun being PLAYED and spend your little .99 cents there. Idiots.

Won’t see ME at Bugger King.

buffy | 4/16/2009, 5:51 pm EST

This is directed right back at you, JohnMichael. I was not speaking of food quality in my post, but rather moral quality in not exposing our children to vulgar ads. Perhaps I should have made that more clear. However, since you mentioned it, McDonald’s has improved the quality of their food, but I will also say, it comes down to personal responsibility on what, where, and how much we let our children eat.

Me | 4/16/2009, 10:07 pm EST

Wow! I am shocked you all would complain about anything. Don’t like it? Turn your TVs to PBS Kids or something like that and don’t let you or your kids watch anything else. Old PEOPLE!! OMG!!

BBCNewsReader | 4/17/2009, 8:47 am EST

When in 2006 UK regulator Ofcom announced tough new rules governing the way advertisers of junk food were allowed to target kids, campaigners cheered while the ad execs were left scratching their heads.

The new rules stated that ads for foods high in salt, fat and sugar were banned from children’s TV programming, including programmes that could have a appeal to the under 16 crowd

The ruling cut off one of the junk food industry’s main paths to reach children, almost overnight. As a result of the ruling Ofcom expect to see the number of junk food adverts children see on the TV drop by 41% compared to the level before. Combined with health campaigners’ continuing concerns about the unhealthy aspects of junk food – this put the industry in a particularly difficult position. This article is from the UK no here in USA folks

m | 4/18/2009, 3:20 pm EST

Wow you guys are rediculous there is nothing sexual about this video is spoge bob has square pants hence square booty what it is is a rapper so its got to be sexual you people are the same people who think the victory garden is sexual. You people watch vampire movies or shakespeare and say that they are not sexual or probably only have sex in the missionary position maybe there are more important issues in the world like genecide in africa than square butts that are so so so so sexy. By the way since when is a boxshape a sexy thing?

memem | 4/18/2009, 3:24 pm EST

I guess you have to agree that the video is awful to get posted

YoungPerson | 4/19/2009, 3:19 pm EST

I am from the Phillipines and it is well known that Americans are SO big!! and fat!! and they act like it is normal?

rdfre43 | 4/20/2009, 1:38 am EST

It is disgusting. The butt movements are not for kids…Burger King is a place kids love and they don’t need to see a bunch of square butted twits moving their “box” (ehem) in such a provocotive way.

doodz | 4/20/2009, 2:21 am EST

Theres more butt references in a Spongebob episode than this commercial.

If you gonna take the commercial down you might aswell ban all those 3D movies with sexual references (almost all pixar and dreamworks movies have this)only adults are seeing the sexual part in this, every kid I have seen watching this, has just taken it as pure dancing fun.

Nothing but more whine from Soccer mom America…If spongebob was holding a gun killing other fishes to keep freedom in bikini botton, this thing would be praise.

necronomiconguy | 4/20/2009, 1:11 pm EST

I dont understand about this new ad for spongebob. I wonder what NIckalodien thinks about this ad…it is degrading I thought spongebob suppose to be for kids and what not this is why OUR children/Teens think about sex and are having it thanks to the basterds that promote Mix-a-Lot’s

buffy | 4/21/2009, 12:25 am EST

I have to admit, the intelligence is shown in the posts. The majority of you who feel the ad is fine have resorted to name-calling, belittling, and just plain crudeness. Perhaps this pushes my reasoning a bit further about how disgusting this ad is. Those of you who think it’s no big deal are some of the rudest. Just for your information, I am not an old person, unless you consider 30 old. I am not a soccer mom either. I am just a mother who loves her child and does not want her viewed as a sex object by anyone. Bill O’Reily even had this commercial on his show today. But now I suppose those who are ignorant think I am a right-wing conservative. Wrong again. I’m also an independent. Just thought I’d beat you to that one.

JohnMichael | 4/21/2009, 1:35 am EST

Alright, hearing all this just makes me wonder, have any of you people watched Spongebob? You’re making a big deal about a commercial that’s nowhere near as sexual as all the other things kids hear and say. I’m 16 and i have to say, the world kids have been exposed to and the world they’ve now created on their own sickens me much more than any stupid commercial. Spongebob is naked in nearly every episode, and i don’t really care because children know far more than you might expect them to. Most of the latest generation has lost their virginity and their dignity at a barely pubescent age. I guarantee, any kid that saw that ad and thought anything more than some girls with funny shaped midsections has seen or experienced far more disturbing. i’m glad to see some parents involved, but you think you’re raising children. Those children will grow up someday. You’re raising adults.

SpongeBoob SquareAss | 4/22/2009, 9:30 pm EST

Sir Mix-a-lot should go the way of the washed up MC and stop approving these ridiculous parodies. It was cute in the 90s, but by 2009, the song is PLAYED OUT. To quote Samuel L from Snakes on a Plane (TV EDIT): “Enough is enough, I’ve had it with these monkey-fighting JOKES on this monday to friday SONG.” This commercial looks to have been written by a high school student in between 3rd and 4th period.

? | 4/22/2009, 9:56 pm EST

the point is to all of you people who are saying to lighten up is that this isnt comercial isnt directed toward you it is directed to 5-9 or 10 year olds who have no bisness watching provokitive comercials. it is a big deal because america is already turning into a very ungodly country and things like this only make it worse. its time we remember what this country was based on instead of posting all kinds of suggestive comercials because we are only going downhill right now. o yeah i cant spell very well so thats why the spelling isnt to great and im 14 if you consider that old.

Tara | 4/25/2009, 1:43 am EST

It’s creepy, shameless, sexually charged, funny in a very campy, horrible way, vulgar, bizarre, blatantly stupid, aimed at parents who don’t regulate what their children eat and watch, and purposely made to create controversy and get attention. Yes, people can turn the channel. Yes, people can not let their children watch tv to begin with. Yes, some people are too uptight. Yes, some kids will find it funny and really understand what is going on. Yes, there are larger issues out there. People could go back and forth forever; but the truth is this commercial is just the most relevant and recent example of how idiotic and irresponsible the majority of both consumers and advertisers have become. Period.

SpongieFan | 4/26/2009, 9:22 am EST

You think the commercial was funny? You gotta see the full version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVKj2D KYm3o

NGB | 4/26/2009, 12:39 pm EST

looks like a bunch of white people tryin’ to act black to me. That’s always offensive.

Randy | 4/28/2009, 1:27 pm EST

To ?, our country is tame compared to the commericals that air on the continent of Europe and Australia. While the commericial is a little suggestive, it is just that: a commericial. A commericial about a talking sponge with a square behind. It is geared towards parents who don’t mind feeding their kids crap. Don’t like it, change the channel. The internet has become polluted with people with too much time on their hands to complain about things they can’t change. Burger King is a multi-billion dollar company. If they wanna buy a 30 sec spot talking about square butts so be it. And where did you learn to spell? I could spell better when I was in third grade.

--- | 4/28/2009, 4:17 pm EST

Well, in case you haven’t noticed, America is also becoming stupider. Probably because America would rather sit in front of the tv and bitch about what’s shown to them, then sit in front of a computer and bitch some more in a forum. This country is way too corporate…if Burger King wants to put a Spongebob ad on the t.v., they’ll do it. They make over 13 billion dollars a year…whose gonna stop them? And to those people who say they aren’t going to take their kids anymore to Burger King…why the hell are you taking them there in the first place?? Congratulate yourselves for putting them on the fast track for diabetes, obesity, and bad eating habits. And to the person who said the commercial wasn’t targeted towards kids…seriously? It’s Spongebob…a CHILD’S cartoon…a child will on average see 10,000 advertisements each year, directed towards them, most of those commercials are for fast food and junk food.
Some of the posts from people here are true–go outside…spend time with your kids without wasting your money…

:) | 5/1/2009, 9:53 pm EST

i think the ad is great! it only shows the butts for a like half a second.and if you dont like it change the channel. its a funny ad that gets peoples attention. kids wont even be thinking anything sexual. my little sister (9) wants a kids meal everytime shes sees the ad. which is what they wanted.

somnolence | 5/1/2009, 11:06 pm EST

This ad would have worked a lot better in a Charmin commercial with the bears demonstrating for the “target” audience. I’m a middle-aged man with no kids in the house and I believe this commercial reflects part of the disintegration of society.

WHATS THE BIG DEAL?!?!?!?!?!?! | 5/23/2009, 10:00 pm EST

WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL SO THE RAPPED ABOUT SQUARE BUTTS ITS NOT LIKE THEY WERE TALKIN ABOUT REAL BUTTS THEY WERE TALKIN ABOUT SPONGE BOB’S BUT SO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE SURING BUGER KING… GET A LIKE BECAUSE THERE ARE WAY WORSE STUFF ON T.V TODAY I DONT HEAR ABOUT YOU SUEING THEM

deedee | 6/8/2009, 9:13 am EST

Commercials do not make teens have sex. Yes, the commercial was a little too much but there are way worse commercials out there. Parents, why don’t you try talking to your kids and teaching them right and wrong. That is your job. Stop thinking that television is supposed to do that.
People today are so uptight over the dumbest things.

WWWTNWOLF | 6/29/2009, 10:01 pm EST

Why has Burger King moved to a view that only sex sells. They are targeting this(Square Butts) add toward Kids and the new suggetive add for the “7 INCHER” Is also viewable by kids. I used to LOVE Burger King. From now on I WILL BOYCOTT BURGER KING. I HOPE YOU JOIN ME
