I am so sick of this hall. This hall has such an elitist atitude towards some of the greatest rock bands of all time. God bless James Hetfield for requesting the future inductions of Deep Purple, Rush, Alice Cooper, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ted Nugent, and Thin Lizzy. I am a fan of all those bands. He also mentioned Kiss. Which is a band I don’t like at all, but I know they belong in for their huge influence and fans. Bottom line here is that Run DMC were inducted on their first year eligibility and are not a rock band. Hip-Hop is not a rock subgenre and the hall is not called the Pop Music Hall of Fame. Those bands have been waiting for years and honestly I don’t think any of them will ever be inducted. Which should be a criminal injustice. I you are a fan of rap/pop music and reading this don’t feel offended by the fact that I think Run DMC, Madonna, Grand Master Flash, Michael Jackson, ect. should not be in the hall. It’s just that attitude or big hits or influence in their own genres don’t make them qualified to be in this hall. A person/band has to play rock music to be in the hall. Run DMC even know they are not a rock band.

By the way didn’t this magazine once call the oscars pointless? If so why has it not critized the hall?

it was nice seeing metallica get the respect they deserve. theyve come a long way to get where they are today. the performance wasnt as good as i anticipated though. havin 2 bassist on stage messed up there over all tone. you could barely here james or kirk. it was cool hearing them play ‘puppets’ but ’sandman’ was the last song i wanted too hear. but of course i’m sure the majority of the people their knew that song and only that song. playing whiplash or fade to black wouldve been killer!! but overall they deserve enrything theyve accomplished.

Stormi | 4/6/2009, 1:57 pm EST

I just don’t think Metallica was a good decision…there are many other bands who are more deserving.

Can we say Thin Lizzy?

Plus, quite a few of the artists in the hall aren’t even “Rock and Roll.”

:sigh:

Rock N Roll hall of fame is flawed yea i can see metallica being in their but it was a very crappy rock hall, people who have been inducted in the past some arent even rock like run dmc!!!

James made a point when he announced many of the bands that should be in their like
KISS, ALICE COOPER IRON MAIDEN!!!!

Screw Run DMC!!

The whole idea of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about as anti Rock and Roll as you can get anyway.

NY Dolls aren’t in. Stooges aren’t in. Faces aren’t in. Replacements aren’t in. Oasis won’t get in.

It’s absurd.

Can anyone explain to me how Robert Trujillo deserved to be included? 5 years and 1 album doesn’t make a HOF entry, but that’s just me. If he deserved to get in, then Ronnie Dio sure as hell deserved to get in with Sabbath a couple years back.

Imp | 4/9/2009, 10:08 pm EST

Just wait…it will get worse I’m sure.A poster a couple of weeks ago actually made a good point in terms of this downward spiral. He said Ratt (who ROCKED) will NEVER get in ,while Bon Jovi (who NEVER rocked)will get in.Pathetic.

Pearl0863 | 4/13/2009, 3:30 pm EST

Without Deep Purple in the rock and roll hall of fame I will personally never walk inside that building. All these great artists passed up by the likes of Madonna and Run DMC. The hall is a complete joke and the judges should be ashamed of themselves.

amarie | 4/13/2009, 9:42 pm EST

Complaining about the hall of fame is like whining about how your favorite band hasn’t won a Grammy. Who cares? This is a commercial, elitist, institution. These artists deserve to be recognized and so do many more who have been snubbed. But the bands many of you have mentioned probably care more about what their fans think than what a handful of “music experts” think about their place in music history. But it makes me so sad to hear people who claim to love rock and roll, talking about who doesn’t belong. You’re no better than the “masterminds” behind the ceremonies. Rock and roll is not any one thing. It never was. If you’re that disgusted about Madonna or Run DMC maybe you don’t understand what rock and roll is about as a form of music or a state of mind. Besides, being narrow minded about music and whining is not going to change the fact that the people in charge of the rnrhf don’t care what we think. So why do you care about what they think?

BOTTOM LINE: Rap Hip Hop Modern Pop Dance Music What Jokingly Passes for Soul R&B these days IS NOT and WILL NEVER be Rock and Roll!

Don’t worry, be happy. The Stooges and Deep Purple will make it eventually.. Alice Cooper & KISS as well and don’t forget The MC5. The rest of all you guys mention may or may not get in because they don’t allow enough slots I think. Double the inductees IMO. You’ll see Beastie Boys in before most of em though.. and please don’t tell me the Beasties don’t rock or that they haven’t been a huge influence on rock. Who had the biggest influence on the Beasties?

shane walsh | 5/8/2009, 7:22 pm EST

it is true,
this is ridiculous,
rap and pop artists get in before deep purple?????
now that is a joke,
joint with zeppelin for being the most influencial rock band of all time,
run dmc.?
they did a remix of 1 aerosmith song and are somehow legendary?
its ridiculous no matter how you look at it,
sabbath only got in in 2006,
waaaay to late for the most important metal band of all time,

deep purple, guns and roses, judas priest, thin lizzy, megadeth, motorhead, alice cooper,
ozzy and dio, saxon, the misfits, motley crue

and future inductees nirvana, pearl jam, alice in chains,

#1kinks fan | 6/9/2009, 2:27 pm EST

Jeff Beck only getting in now is the ultimate disgrace. He and Clapton remain the two best guitar players and innovators ever.
