The Killers, “Four Winds” [Bright Eyes Cover]
The Killers breathe life into this stodgy Bright Eyes moaner, finally joining two of rock’s most confusing lyricists in one spectacular song.

Various Artists, Nirvana Covers [Covers]
It’s never too early for nostalgia! Artists from the Liars to, uh, Local H alternately celebrate and defile the legacy of rock’s last great game-changers.

El Michels Affair, “C.R.E.A.M.” [Wu-Tang Clan Cover]
New York soul band the El Michels Affair gives C.R.E.A.M. a dash of S.O.U.L., making those piano trills drip like melting icicles.

Marvin Gaye, “Sexual Healing” [Jocks Ode to 92 Bootleg]
For the amorously ambitious: Jock double-times the beat to this Gaye classic, making for a particularly breathless evening workout.

Amadou & Mariam, “Sabali” [Paul Epworth Remix]
Surprisingly synthy song from Malian couple gets even glitchier courtesy of this Paul Epworth remix.

The Killers did a great job

Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) is not a confusing lyricist. He is simply the most intelligent, creative poet in the music medium. I am a fan of both Bright Eyes and The Killers, but that Four Winds rendition is brutal. The rawness is gone, replaced by electronica – hardly an upgrade.

That Wu Tang album by El Michels is crazy! Vintage-soul inspired instrumentals of classic Wu tracks. !!!
