Before Lil Wayne goes rock on his forthcoming Rebirth, Rolling Stone takes a look back at his 10 best under-the-radar tracks, from “Random,” where Weezy and protégée Drake claim to have picked up the pen for Dr. Dre’s Detox, to “Unstoppable,” where the pair rhyme over a Santigold sample, uniting the hipsters and the ‘hood. For a guide to the rest — including team-ups with Pimp C, T-Pain, the Game, Jim Jones and more — check out the full story:

Good idea. Lil Wayne isn’t the greatest rapper alive (Eminem? Kanye West? Big Boi? Andre 3000? Hell, even Jay-Z?) but he gets some unneeded hate here.

The man’s a clever lyricist and he can put together a good song.

Does Lil’ Wayne have any essential songs? His biggest hit is a mush-mouth rap song about BJ’s.

StrummerJones | 4/3/2009, 12:30 pm EST

Yeah, and Chuck Berry’s biggest hit is a gigantic dick joke. He still has essential songs.

Chuck Berry didn’t rise to fame with “My Ding-A-Ling” like Lil’ Wayne did with “Lollipop”. “My Ding-A-Ling” was a fluke hit at the end of his career. While “Lollipop” is Lil’ Wayne defining hit. It was intentionally crafted song to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Lil’ Wayne has miles to go before anybody could compare him musically to Chuck Berry. The way Lil’ Wayne is spinning his wheels doing gimmicks like badly singing autotuned rock songs. He will never get close to Chuck Berry’s acclaim.

Even though he might not get as much support on his road to rock and roll, i personally think Lil Wayne is the best rapper alive. Even big artist such as Kanye, The Game, and many more all give him props on being the best rapper. So I think people should just leave Lil Weezy alone and let him do what he do best… Music.

wayne cant even be compared to other rapers thats how sick he is. i bet any song or beat he gets on he is garenteed to kill it no questions asked

“Even the best say weezy the best”

Wayne is the best rapper alive, he produces so much music that everyone likes, how can you not be the best if so many people like your music? weezy is 10x’s better than chuck berry will every be (no offense to chuck) but until you or someone else can produce more music that everyone likes than lil wayne can stop hatin and listen to what is being said and not how its being said.

Dicky,

So just because I am not a rap artist, I’m not allowed to have an opinion besides absolute adoration?

Chill out a little, just because I think differently from you doesn’t mean I am wrong.

Yo Hunh, Im sure your have better things to do with your time then express your thaughts and feeling over a message board, well then again I take that back bc it seems here all you are doing is bad mouthing. Now as much as you would like to belive that Lolipop was definig hit for lil wayne that song came out several years before the Carter 1 which was actualy his real rise to fame. So go waste your time giving unspected people other clips of your spotty information and stop badmouthign people just bc you wish you had there everything. and dont lie you wish you were lil wayne. maybe one day, buti doubt it
