no Blue Man Group?

You guys are pretty funny. The Pink Spiders killed this poll with 47% of total votes before you started deleting their fan’s opinions. The guys are on tour and had nothing to do with it. They were all individual fans, voting for their band. What’s wrong with rock ‘n roll rebellion anyway? Isn’t this supposed to be about the fans? I’m just sayin’

wow! | 3/30/2009, 7:25 pm EST

This really proves just how much the fans votes matter to you, Rolling stones! Honestly why hold a poll for people to vote on if you’re just going to delete comments for a band just because you think the votes are from the same one person. Honestly, Rolling Stones, To delete all the votes for the Pink Spiders after they had 47% of the vote early into this little poll?

Maybe you should be more open to the bands that AREN’T overplayed on the radio or tv programs, you might just be surprised at the number of bands you’re missing out on because your so afraid to give the unknown a listen.

I’m a Spider Lunitic and damn proud of it!

Good Job, RS, Now we know just how much our opinions matter to you!

Dude Man | 3/30/2009, 7:45 pm EST

Most of the Pink Spiders votes don’t count because it’s quite obvious that the few people that voted for them changed their names and voted a million other times. Deep Purple should be number 1. I am surprised Living Colour and Rainbow did not make the list. Did they not count as real colors?

Anonymous | 3/30/2009, 7:55 pm EST

Pink Spiders for honorary 21 spot?

Mary | 3/30/2009, 8:16 pm EST

Why even hold a poll if you’re just going to delete comments when a street team decides to support their band?

Anonymous | 3/30/2009, 8:36 pm EST

what makes you think that all our votes were not legitimate? we read your article, we did as you asked, to leave a comment voting… and because a lot of us just happen to vote a certain way, you think it’s cheating. yeah. this is just one example why i don’t subscribe to your magazine anymore.

wow! | 3/30/2009, 9:22 pm EST

ok? your website is strange to not show all the comments at the same time.

Seriously? | 3/30/2009, 9:33 pm EST

The Pink Spiders should have won, by far. You mean to say that just because the people who voted for them just happened to be in a street team that our votes didn’t count? What are you a communist?

Anonymous | 3/30/2009, 9:50 pm EST

I lost all respect for your magazine.
Polls are meant to show the opinions of everyone. So what if TPS had more fans who decided to vote.

You should be happy that so many people came onto your website, originally intending to support your magazine. I guarantee we won’t make the same mistake again.

Anonymous | 3/30/2009, 10:06 pm EST

Ew, how did Red Hot Chili Peppers beat Pink Floyd?

anyonymous | 3/30/2009, 11:08 pm EST

How in the world can you “stuff” an online ballot box?

Youre just upset that the Pink Spiders had more loyal followers

I thought rolling stone was supposed to help support underground bands and non-mainstream artists.

Take the high road, admit your fault and apologize directly to the band and fans

psprincess | 3/30/2009, 11:31 pm EST

Unbelievable! What an insult to The Pink Spiders and their fans. I’ve read Rolling Stone Magazine for years and because a fan base rallied around their favorite band (like they were asked to do in your poll)…you delete their comments. Not downplaying the list…but…looks pretty mainstream to me… Very disappointed in your actions…and your magazine. We all know who REALLY won this little contest…

Anonymous | 3/31/2009, 12:05 am EST

Dude Man,

Ever hear of a My Space Bulletin? One gets posted and suddenly all of us know that we had a chance to support our favorite band.
We are all different people, just with the same goal. To show our love for TPS.

judy | 3/31/2009, 12:32 am EST

There was no need to change our names. The Pink Spiders have lots of loyal fans. It may have been your “supreme” decision to select Green Day, but The Pink Spiders won the popular vote

Dude Man | 3/30/2009, 7:45 pm EST

“Most of the Pink Spiders votes don’t count because it’s quite obvious that the few people that voted for them changed their names and voted a million other times.”

I Am Deeply offended by this. How do you know that at that one particular hour 3 or 4 people came to the website at the same time to cast their votes?
Is it so hard to believe that the Pink Spiders have such a vast following online of dedicated fans willing to support the band at whatever opportunity arises?

Anonymous | 3/31/2009, 12:55 am EST

Wow, I’m really proud to be a Pink Spiders fan right now, I mean, look how dedicated we are. The vote and everything is over, yet we’re all still here defending our boys.
Go us! I know they’d be proud.

word of advice | 3/31/2009, 1:18 am EST

NEVER underestimate the power and devotion that a rock band’s loyal group of followers have!

paul | 3/31/2009, 5:17 am EST

wow that sucks…you really couldn’t be happy that an “unknown” band could actually win.
i’m proud of what us pink spiders fans achieved, you should be ashamed.

matt | 3/31/2009, 10:24 am EST

this is the most biased thing i have ever seen.ever thought that the pink spiders just might be better than green day? or yellowcard? of the black kids? not taking anything away from those band, but come on.the spiders clearly won this.i have lost any respect i ever had for rolling stone magazine,i chose not to renew my subscription to this magazine, and i will never pick up another rolling stone magazine.and there is absolutely no way you can know that people changed their names and voted over and over.were you there when they voted?
didn’t think so.

Anonymous | 3/31/2009, 11:06 am EST

Oh, come on!

Just because we street team, our votes aren’t legitimate? Seriously? We love the band, and we’re sure as hell going to support them when they’re up for things like this. Y’all should be damn ashamed.

Pink Spiders for the mother fucking win.

TPSRMY – DC.

StrummerJones | 3/31/2009, 12:21 pm EST

I’m satisfied with this result.

However, I suggest that next week’s reader rock list is about albums. It could be color (Pink Flag, Purple Rain, and Green River, but albums like The White Album or The Black Album or The Blue Album that are not explicitly titled as such are disqualified) or it could be something else, but just do an album list.

StrummerJones | 3/31/2009, 12:24 pm EST

Hey, Pink Spiders fans!

Can you quit your bitching if I check out an album or two of theirs? It doesn’t matter if you won this meaningless poll, but your raid sparked a bit of interest in me, and isn’t that the point? I’ll listen, just shut the fuck up.

KS | 3/31/2009, 2:13 pm EST

Dear Strummer Jones,

I am pleased that you will listen to TPS because we’re such stinky diapers about this band. That’s cool – that’s our whole point. Please go to their website, which I cannot post here because this bogus tool will not accept it.

What RS is missing is the real story in two parts: 1) it’s about the fans, not the poll – i mean seriously, does RS care about which band is most preferred with a color in their name? I think not – but they should care if fans are intense about something; and 2) you cannot make or enforce bogus rules on the internet. If I could trade this team shutting up for a whole bunch of new fans and record sales for my favorite band, I would. But, that’s the point – I don’t control it and neither does Rolling Stone. All we can do is inspire the fans to act on behalf of the band and the band inspires them with the music – and that’s the real story here. The industry is losing control of the music and they are pissed! The bands and the fans are in charge – and we’re not giving the wheel back, never, ever.

StrummerJones | 3/31/2009, 3:00 pm EST

Well, you have to remember that if a bigger band street teamed this poll, they’d destroy you. This is their poll and if they don’t want to accept the street teaming, whatever. You got the name out to people who hadn’t heard it, so there you go.

Dude Man | 3/31/2009, 3:05 pm EST

I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I’m not saying they did not belong on the list because they do have alot of loyal fans like most of you and they did get a large amount of votes. I apologize if I hurt any of the Pink Spiders fans and the band themselves.

hayleeeee | 3/31/2009, 4:03 pm EST

stuff like this makes me laugh chill out all that matters is Jesus

StrummerJones | 3/31/2009, 4:16 pm EST

i sure hope that last poster is being ironic

Anonymous | 3/31/2009, 8:47 pm EST

I second the vote for a poll with color-named albums.

KS | 4/1/2009, 12:17 pm EST

Be prepared – Pink Spiders LP2 is entitled “HOT PINK” – not sure you really want to do this again, do you?

yes yes | 4/1/2009, 7:40 pm EST

RS, you best change your morals on people posting their opinions on your website before you start that idea about cd titles with a color in the name. The Pink Spiders are in the running for that one as well!

I´m blue.

I think that have no problem write stupid news (like this list) to don´t have the magazine with blank pages. But, stupid choices and professionals, that leave Blue Man Group and put Green Day in first… That´s the problem of the journalists, they don´t REALLY read about the theme before create their publishing.

GreenDayFan518 | 4/5/2009, 1:44 am EST

I’m glad to see one of my favorite bands getting some attention here…The PINK SPIDERS! Great band! I love you Matt & even though Jon & Bob are missed, you still rock hard!

Anonymous | 4/5/2009, 1:56 am EST

I agree with the TPS fans. Though I’m a Green Day fan, I don’t think that Green Day, Yellowcard or RHCP should’ve been in this list. As far as I know, they’re very mainstream. You guys (Rolling Stones) should really think through what you want in a poll. Whatever you guys did really did piss off some loyal fans to some kick-ass bands.

finksgirl | 4/5/2009, 2:35 am EST

Lookit that number one…
what’s done is done. and my boys won. =D

yallll | 4/5/2009, 4:29 am EST

to put a band like green day above some of the most influential musical acts ever such as james brown and pink ffloyd is an outrage and it thoroughly disgusts me. in fact to have any bands above james brown, pink ffloyd or the white stripes is a blow to music the world over

yallll | 4/5/2009, 4:38 am EST

floyd**

Hasan | 4/5/2009, 4:51 am EST

You guys! try understand it.It’s not a poll for ‘Best Rock bands’ out there,it’s about ‘bands with great color names’.

whatsernamee(: | 4/5/2009, 8:17 am EST

Green Day won :]
haha!

Breakdown | 4/5/2009, 9:42 am EST

greenday#1fan | 4/5/2009, 11:47 am EST

Angela | 4/5/2009, 12:02 pm EST

I’m really happy that Green Day won. :)

Bob | 4/5/2009, 12:13 pm EST

Green Day’s just influential and there’s nothing anybody could do about it. It’s done. They won.

Anonymous | 4/5/2009, 1:46 pm EST

pink spiders people stfu. haha go green day.

thatruth101 | 4/5/2009, 2:08 pm EST

whoever said pink floyd and james brown should’ve been over green day for influence apparently isn’t aware of green day’s influence on [the good] modern rock music.

the pink spiders are garbage. shut up.

Amy | 4/5/2009, 2:11 pm EST

Green Day is not only the greatest color band, but the greatest all-around band ever. Word.

SILVERCHAIR | 4/5/2009, 2:26 pm EST

SILVERCHAIR are better than at least half of them and should easily be in the top 5!

_Maisie_ | 4/6/2009, 5:50 pm EST

Well Green Day are my fave band ever and I’m so glad they won :D

But coz of the TPS thing, I’ve decided to check them out and I think they’re awesome and should definitely be on the list.

(:

WOAH | 4/10/2009, 1:12 pm EST

Wait, did someone just say RHCP is mainstream? Where have you been for the past twenty years?

Cassandra Danielle | 8/20/2009, 7:29 am EST

Maybe it’s just age showing, but what about Moody Blues, White Animals and/or White Angel??? All three were major players during the era they were popular…

haha | 9/25/2009, 8:40 am EST

green day totally won this.
they win everything.
they’re just great?

haha | 9/25/2009, 8:40 am EST
