Tool Announce Plans to Hit the Road Summer 2009

Last year was a quiet one for Tool, with frontman Maynard James Keenan concentrating on Puscifer and not much activity to follow up Tool’s 2006 album 10,000 Days. But the band’s vacation will end soon, as the Tool Website has revealed plans for a summer tour. No dates have been confirmed as yet, but “once they are finalized and official, we’ll be sure to announce them on the site,” the band writes. According to a press release announcing the performers at Denver’s Mile High Festival on July 18th and 19th, Tool are confirmed headliners.

The announcement of the summer trek comes as a minor surprise, as Tool tour rumors have been buzzing about the Internet. Tool was last week mentioned by the Chicago Tribune as one of the bands possibly headlining this year’s Lollapalooza festival, so the fact that the band revealed plans to tour this summer lends credence to that theory. Plus, Tool took part in the 1993 and 1997 mobile Lollapaloozas, and with rumored headliners like Jane’s Addiction, the Killers, Beastie Boys and Kings of Leon all having previously played the fest through the years, Tool’s addition makes sense.

The band’s last tour was an 18-month world-spanning jaunt that kicked off at April 2006’s Coachella Festival and wrapped up December 14th, 2007 in Las Vegas. In between, the quartet headlined a night at the 2007 Bonnaroo. If you really can’t wait until this summer to see Tool, there’s some good news: Keenan will be hosting a wine signing at the Whole Foods Market today, March 26th in Houston, Texas and tomorrow at a Whole Foods in San Antonio. The Tool site promises that the tour dates will be “posted soon,” so check back with Rock Daily soon for all the details.

Man… all my “disposable income” is being taken up by bad ass shows like Tool, NINJA, and others… guess eating will have to be put on the back burner if this keeps up.

King Jeremy | 3/26/2009, 12:39 pm EST

I’ve never been to a notorious Tool concert. God of Summer ‘09, pray for me.

TOOL | 3/26/2009, 12:55 pm EST

announced at mile high fest in denver!!!!

Critic | 3/26/2009, 1:01 pm EST

Tool’s Lateralus = one of the most genius songs ever written. Google lateralus + fibanacci sequence and prepare to be blown away.

Joe Mama | 3/26/2009, 1:14 pm EST

Seen them a half-dozen times and can’t wait for this tour – they’d better hit Toronto!

BpOuOsTsS | 3/26/2009, 2:26 pm EST

ditto Schultz!

pmack | 3/26/2009, 2:39 pm EST

if this is true: phenomenal. But something tells me with April Fools Day a week away and Tool’s love affair with messing with people makes me keep my expectations guardedly low.

thank you! | 3/26/2009, 3:52 pm EST

thanks for the info, I live in San Antonio and had no idea he will be here tomorrow. I’m definitely going to check out his wine. Keep up the good work RS!

Adam Blanchard | 3/26/2009, 7:58 pm EST

I have seen them twice and I will be praying for a couple Canadian dates…..Atlantic Canada would be amazing!!

Meatwad | 3/27/2009, 9:13 am EST

I hope they come to the midwest. I’ve wanted to see them live for a long time. A damn good band, one of the very few outstanding bands left.

dude | 3/27/2009, 9:18 am EST

i agree with pmac. tool has a rep for pulling jokes with the media. i wont believe anything until i see official tour dates. but if its true i’d love to see them again. seeing them live isnt like going to a concert, its an experience.

TOOLJUNKIE | 3/27/2009, 4:23 pm EST

THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!! I work for an active rock radio station & the rumors are true. I’ve seen them 6 times & have been blown away each & every time. The times we live in now are tough ones but if you can scrap up enough cash for a ticket, you will not be disappointed

dude | 3/27/2009, 4:45 pm EST

he was recently on a radio staion here in houston for 94.5 ‘the buzz’ and the dj’s asked him if he had any plans with tool or APC this year and he clearly said ‘NO’. and this was last week. thats why im not calling this tour official yet.

Jason | 3/28/2009, 2:24 am EST

Hooray! But it’s time for a new album too!

smokeandreason | 3/28/2009, 1:16 pm EST

No, it is not time for a new Tool album. I’ll be expecting it in the Spring of 2011, after the standard 5 year gap. We’re lucky we’re getting a tour this soon. I have a feeling they’ll be playing some songs that we’re not used to hearing live…

Tool’s ‘5 year gap’ is anything but standard. The band members have stated that they are now getting older and might have to move forward faster than usual. So a new album in 2010 isn’t impossible.
