Green Day Nail Down “21st Century Breakdown” Release Date: May 15th

Green Day’s 21st Century Breakdown — the band’s eighth studio record and first since 2004’s Grammy-winning American Idiot — has a firm release date: May 15th. While Tuesday is the traditional release day for albums in the States, the band is following the lead of labelmates Metallica and dropping its album worldwide on a Friday. First single “Know Your Enemy” will hit digital retailers in April, and the track’s video will debut on MTV and VH1 on April 24th. “American Idiot marked a really high bar for us,” Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tells Rolling Stone for our Spring Album Preview. “It’s easy to go, ‘OK, we can just write a collection of songs.’ But there was something about trying to keep going for it.”

As Rock Daily reported in our first listen to Breakdown, the 16-track album is broken into three acts — Heroes and Cons, Charlatans and Saints, and Horseshoes and Handgrenades — and ranges from garage rock to Queen-style grandeur. In our Spring Preview, Armstrong reveals the band plans to perform the whole album, all three exhausting acts, on a summer world tour.

If this album and it’s singles are anywhere near as big as American Idiot was then we have a problem. It’s not that i dislike Green Day, cuz trust me i get their appeal, but when you can’t turn on a radio or a televesion without hearing or seeing them in some form and they have their own clothing section at Walmart, somethings gotta give.

Bartholomue or whatever…Both American Idiot and Dookie were top selling albums? Dookies up there on the all time list…and soon Idiot will surpass it. Also, playing in front of 65,000 people is kinda the exact opposite of not haveing that many people at a show. AC/DC, with all due respect, are out of their prime, the had their shot of fame in the 70’s and 80’s…this era isn’t meant for them. Leave the saviors of Rock to Metallica and Green Day, they will be forever engraved as top contenders in 00’s rock catagory. Black Ice didn’t even dent Idiots status…so shut the fuck up and keep listening to songs with the EXACT same drum beats…again with all due respect AC/DC…

wow..I’m honestly surprised how many Green Day fans there are. I thought everyone hated them…like me! American Idiot was largely overblown, and all their songs have the same typical bullshit message. Plus, they don’t have as much musical credibility as everyone here thinks they do. Oh, and Mcbain, Green Day is old news too!
