Axl Rose and Guns n’ Roses have recruited Sixx:A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba for their “upcoming tour,” the band announced in a press release issued Saturday, March 21st. Ashba is also known for co-writing and co-producing Mötley Crüe’s Saints of Los Angeles. Rock Daily recently reported that Gn’R were planning a worldwide stadium tour for this summer, so Ashba’s addition is likely the final piece of the touring-band puzzle before we start getting some concrete details regarding Axl and company hitting the road.

“DJ’s a gifted, energetic guitarist that Guns n’ Roses is proud to have on board!” Axl Rose said of his new axeman in an exclamation-point-packed statement. “We’re very excited to have the opportunity to work together. Guns’ radar has silently been aware of DJ’s presence for quite some time! He brings a fresh approach to our particular brand of mayhem expanding the tapestry of Guns n’ Roses live. Once DJ’s name was in the hat, the hat disappeared!”

“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to be a part of a band that I have always loved and respected,” Ashba said of his new job. “I’m looking forward to working with Axl, who is not only one of the few great frontmen of our generation, but a true artist.” Ashba, who was born in Indiana like Rose, replaces guitarist Robin Finck, who played a large role in the recording of Chinese Democracy but absconded from Guns to rejoin Nine Inch Nails. Ashba becomes the latest in a long line of Gn’R guitarists, joining Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Gilby Clarke, Buckethead, Finck and currently, Richard Fortus and Bumblefoot. To quote the press release, “Now, one step closer to the abyss, Ashba joins a band whose all time roster is nearly as long as its founder Axl Rose’s rap sheet!”

Are they talking about Slash?

W Myers | 3/23/2009, 11:51 am EST

WHat is the source for the “upcoming tour” part of the article? I did not read that in the press release on their website.

To Axl. | 3/23/2009, 12:05 pm EST

Axl..you are such a coward and a control freakish loser! Just do one tour with the original band will you?????

Don’t go to this moron’s fake GNR tour!

BTW: No offence to DJ Ashba (who is a great, great guitarist!)

Leonardo | 3/23/2009, 12:23 pm EST

I am very happy to see that Axl is giving this young gifted/talented hotshot a chance.

This is getting really interesting and exciting.

really? | 3/23/2009, 12:32 pm EST

can the fake GNR really sell out stadiums? who wants to see the axl vegas review?

Mucky Fingers | 3/23/2009, 12:58 pm EST

The never-ending drama and inconsistencies that surround Axl Rose is just getting boring.

I’d rather see Slash playing back-up for some unknown blues band than suffer Axl’s latest incarnation of Guns N’ Poses.

The band disappeared from the spotlight almost 15 years ago. The audience has grown up, and they’ve grown up on other bands. It’s over.

Really | 3/23/2009, 1:08 pm EST

can the fake GNR really sell out stadiums?

No.

GNR Rules | 3/23/2009, 1:08 pm EST

I was reluctant to give new GNR a chance. I bought Chinese Democracy and loved it! With all the crap aside, it is a great album. Listen to it without pre-judging it.

DJ Ashba has been fired. We are attempting to get Jimi Hendrix back from the dead for our upcoming 2018 tour.

MB | 3/23/2009, 2:10 pm EST

Only the real GnR will sell out stadiums. This new techno 9 piece band that Axl has going on wont sell out a stadium sorry….

Mel F | 3/23/2009, 2:36 pm EST

Who cares if they can sell out stadiums. They’re good. Spend all your time judging other people, what have you guys done lately?

bigmama | 3/23/2009, 2:55 pm EST

cool, CD was great, a real suprise and very very good. I can’t wait untill the new tour

Please Axl come to the uk

gnr has been sucking since slash and izzy left the band. The new cd sucks also

Will not happen ... | 3/23/2009, 3:09 pm EST

The rumor is a Van Halen / GnR tour, although I’m not sure why Ed would agree to tour with that nut.

almost famous | 3/23/2009, 3:20 pm EST

what the fuck?? guns n roses is like the band that ringo starr put together, in which every 3 months theres a new lineup.axl should stop using the gnr name right now.besides the band members all look like michael jackson including axl pose.

Anonymous | 3/23/2009, 3:36 pm EST

The new album is shit!! GNR should just go away.

The new album is shitty song after shitty song!!

D.C. | 3/23/2009, 3:53 pm EST

I loved the old Guns like everyone else, and really liked some of the news ones from Chinese Democracy. However, to spend good money to go see someone who may or may not show up is not worth the risk. I’m gonna spend my money on MetallicA. You know they will show up, and you know they will put on a great show!!!!

i love the real GNR | 3/23/2009, 3:59 pm EST

replacement after replacement
Slash and Izzy are the only Guns players.
Nugnr SUCKS

rock | 3/23/2009, 4:23 pm EST

Get a life and move on, i like the old and new stuff, but thats just because im a true fan!!!!! i love axl he is the man and if Van Halen tours with GNR that would be the best rock show of all time!!!
Dave and Axl, what a combination!

rock | 3/23/2009, 4:24 pm EST

Also im really looking forward to the tour!!!

lame | 3/23/2009, 4:36 pm EST

1)the new album was horrible minus a few tracks and 2) There is no way they can sell out stadiums. Get the old crew together and I will give you my money in a heartbeat.

Denis in Boston | 3/23/2009, 5:45 pm EST

VH and Guns N Roses would be sick! But this ain’t really GNR so they would have to open for Halen. Either way – SICK show.

jagoff | 3/23/2009, 5:58 pm EST

All the know it all haters need to get a life. “New GNR” already has sold out stadiums & will again if they do another tour. If you hate the band so much, just don’t listen to it, buy it, read about it, etc. Do the world a favor & shut your pie holes, & crawl back under the rocks which you slithered from beneath of. No one cares about your uninformed, worthless opinions. Chinese Democracy Rocks! Period.

Steve | 3/23/2009, 6:07 pm EST

They probably will tour with VH or someone just as big since I’m sure Axl knows he can’t sell out stadiums with this new ‘GNR’ lineup. They would sell out a few stadiums but the other 20 dates, forget about it.

blow me axl | 3/23/2009, 6:22 pm EST

seriously who the hell cares!

why doesnt axl team up with billy corgan and form smashing roses!

our particular brand of mayhem | 3/23/2009, 6:43 pm EST

“He brings a fresh approach to our particular brand of mayhem”

I had to laugh at that. Axl’s brand of mayhem is to be a predictable dickhead. He’s the ring leader in a circus of dickheads.

Drag Queem Roses | 3/23/2009, 7:10 pm EST

Why is it with every new addition to the band, they look more and more like Frankie Goes to Hollywood meets Flock of Seagulls

DrZ | 3/23/2009, 8:30 pm EST

Or like when Pat Smear joined Nirvana!

DrZ | 3/23/2009, 8:38 pm EST

The VH Gnr tour would rock, but for multiple reasons, I don’t see that happening. A more realistic train-wreck of a tour would be Gnr with the opening band being the band GnR stole from the most to begin with.THE NEW YORK DOLLS!

gnr rules | 3/23/2009, 10:43 pm EST

CR1ZZ | 3/23/2009, 11:22 pm EST

I would go see the original line up without slash, but it has to be more than Axl. It would be a lot better with Slash but there’s only so much you can ask for. And I don’t think new Guns’n'roses is so low in the rock world it should be opening for Van Halen.
If Led-Zeppelin did a tour they could open. Van Halen should just do a full world tour by themselves, (optional opening act). And when I say world tour I mean
North America
UK
China
Japan
Can ada
Australia
New Zealand
Not in any particular order. New Guns’n'roses could’nt pull that off.

gabriel | 3/23/2009, 11:52 pm EST

bring back finkkkkkk!

Jake | 3/24/2009, 12:05 am EST

Forgive me if I read wrong but, GnR should not have to open for Van Halen, but Led Zeppelin should open for Gnr?? HA HA HA HA HA Ha HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian Gallagher | 3/24/2009, 12:21 am EST

I will be interested in seeing how many tickets they sell. Axl, if you had any smarts you would get the original line up together. That would sell but to think just because he is in it, is so self indulgent. He sounds like Kate Smith…..it`s over Axl…like your hair.

Jeff | 3/24/2009, 12:37 am EST

Blah blah blah, if Axl was smart he’d get the original lineup back together.

Blah blah blah, it’s not Guns N’ Roses.

Blah blah blah, it’s the Axl Rose solo project.

Blah blah blah, Axl’s hair, yadda yadda yadda.

How insightful people. Really. Brilliant notions. You’re all so clever and fresh.

Bring on the tour!

yeah, that guy looks queer. | 3/24/2009, 1:55 am EST

and not the good kind of queer. and the good kind of queer is homosensual. that guy looks queer as in something is wrong with him.

SORRY! WRONG WAY AROUND!! SORRY.

nawaf | 3/24/2009, 3:53 am EST

gnr day n night in the news for every type of news but they are never in the news for their music

jc | 3/24/2009, 7:05 am EST

It’s not only up to AXL to get the original members back together, and if it did happen they would not last a week.DJ will be a good fit into the lineup, a fresh look, great guitar work.I think he could very well be a permanent member of GNR,he’s young and talented, and he fits the mold better than Robin.

thedetoxg | 3/24/2009, 7:48 am EST

bring back slash wtf, this guy? u for real. i bet he has some talent but axl should bring back the original lineup just for this year being such a big year in music. if your doing a show you have to play all the songs guns used to do 2 and to do that in a stadium is going to be a challenge because the 3 ohter guitarist is not going to be good. guns has no natural groove anymore. way 2 produced but if they tried tey can make it work i guess

Brilliant notions | 3/24/2009, 9:23 am EST

if Axl was smart he’d get the original lineup back together.
it’s not Guns N’ Roses.
it’s the Axl Rose solo project.
Axl’s hair
fuck axl.lol

Ann | 3/24/2009, 9:24 am EST

Loved the old stuff…

basser | 3/24/2009, 12:47 pm EST

I wonder if the economy will hurt this tour. Axl didn’t think the new CD sold as well as it should have, and blamed Best Buy for it. Was it due to the fact that the original lineup is no longer around? Who knows. With GNR going out on the road against tours like U2, Fleetwood Mac and Coldplay this summer, I wonder if the economy will hurt their tour and others …

Ha | 3/24/2009, 1:25 pm EST

Actually the only real “replacement” in GnR is Tommy Stinson.

Mikel K Poet | 3/24/2009, 1:26 pm EST

I’m as curious about Guns N Roses pulling off a stadium tour as I am U2. How many copies of, “Chinese Democracy,” sold at Best Buy?

Rob, Brighton | 3/24/2009, 2:52 pm EST

Great guitarist brought on board, technically better than Fink imo. But, like others point out, although CD was generally a strong album it didnt come out soon enough nor did Axl or the record company promote it as was necessary. Touring stadiums will be financially crippling, especially in the current economic climate. Your gambling big time Axl.

deano | 3/24/2009, 3:37 pm EST

It doesn’t matter who replaced who, it’s still not the same band that recorded “Appetite for Destruction” or “Use Your Illusion.” Here’s hoping the tour is a financial disaster that will convince Axl to patch things up with the guys. Unfortunately, Best Buy is the only one financially stung by the poor sales of “Chinese Democracy.”

Rocker | 3/24/2009, 3:50 pm EST

They should have hired Billy Duffy, former Cult guitarist . But, that’s my humble opinion.

Snaves | 3/24/2009, 5:24 pm EST

Look! He and Axl can compare bandanas. How cute.

DrZ | 3/24/2009, 6:49 pm EST

Ummm…Billy Duffy is STILL the Cult’s guitarist, and I hope never joins GnR. CFFC!

fishing widow | 3/24/2009, 9:18 pm EST

DJ is incredibly talented. Lets hope he can pull G N R’s ass out of the weeds.

Ticketbastard | 3/24/2009, 9:36 pm EST

Steve | 3/24/2009, 11:08 pm EST

C*J* | 3/25/2009, 7:36 am EST

let the haters keep hating…. go see velvet revolver to see old guns.
the old guns is a great mark in history, but let the man who created & formed gn’r to carry on the name and carry out what he wants to do.

Smashing Pumpkins
The Cure
Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath (at one point)
Megadeth

have all had/have one original/founding member that has carried on the name yet people didn’t give them nearly enough grief as Axl’s got. f*ck give this guy a break!

Wes | 3/25/2009, 8:24 am EST

Ashba looks like a douche, funny just like AXL

Stadium tour, huh? Demand would not fill half the arenas in the US…Smells like a bomb

Everyone | 3/25/2009, 1:15 pm EST

if you guys were deeping to their new album “Chinese Democracy” and to other stuff they created, without Slash
you can see the guns n’ rose’s playing didnt got worse like you think so, it’s just because slash is an unsapreatable part of the band

you’re just resist it because slash isn’t in the band anymore,
and because Axl doesn’t take a really famous guitarist like slash was, and the only one who stayed from the old guns n’ roses, is Axl

Axl shows Slash, really hard that guns n’ roses can play good stuff without him in the band

and you know what? it makes the band powerful and better without Slash, and without the old members

Axl gives here a fight, a very good fight
other people, in his situation,
would just give up and quit, enjoying the money he had recieved from the good days of the band
and resting for the rest of their life

but it’s true too, that the old guns n’ roses was something very special, and it’s harder changing

Slash is the spirit of the history of the band, everyone who hears guns n’ roses knows whos slash, and respect him, but too much
slash isn’t a very good guitarist like everyone who hears GNR (Guns N’ Roses) thinks
he made himself a very good guitarist by his own pride to himself

people (who thinks that the new members of guns n’ roses sucks) says that, it’s just because slash isn’t anymore in the band,as i wrote, slash is unsapreatable part of the band, he’s too unsapreatable
it’s a final answer for why people was buying albums and like the new stuff of the band less than the old stuff of the band

did you wanna hear new stuff of Black Sabbath if their guitarist was decieded to quit the band?
did you wanna hear Jimi Hendrix Experience if Jimi Hendrix was decieded to quit the band?

that’s the same situation, slash is unsapreatable part of GNR more than Axl and more than anybody who was in the band all over the history
he designed the profile of the band, he designed the style of the band

if every guitarist who was quit his band could be a root of a band, just like slash was in GNR, most of the bands were gone faster, just like Thin Lizzy, by their singer’s death

the thing that i’m trying to tell you (GNR’s New Members Haters)
when slash was still on GNR,
most of GNR’s fans were exited about the band
slash is the root of GNR, and nothing can change it anymore, the only thing that Axl can do is just cover it deeper and deeper, and try to find a way to show everyone that even if the root of the band was gone, there’s still new good stuff that the band still creating,
and the band didnt get anyworse

the really step that Axl should do right now, is to cover deeper and deeper the past of the band, and to create a new future and happy for the band..

the guitarists that was in the band after slash weren’t worser than slash, but i don’t think that they were better than slash..

i hope the GNR’s new guitarist will fly the band to successful of the band and i hope he doesn’t play just like he looks

Omer.

Dani C | 3/25/2009, 1:45 pm EST

Ashba rocks. I give it a month before he can’t put up with Axl.
Too talented for that rubbish.

mike clink | 3/25/2009, 2:04 pm EST

According to most out here, what does it matter who calls it GnR. Slash/Duff/Izzy have no claim to GnR, seems many on this site see them as just guitar players on a record, keeping the seat warm for the next person Axl wanted. Damn, the Stones, Zeppelin, Who, all of them should have done that. Like many said “hey Slash was sloppy in 1988, Buckethead, Bumblefoot, or any of the next dozen players to play for axl are WAY better than Slash”….damn, Jimmy Page was pretty sloppy at points too, Plant & Co should have kicked him out & replaced him with Steve Vai in 1977. he’s way better technically….what a stupid concept…why have bands then, just have robots….WAR, good name though!….go for Steve Adler, you have just as much right to the GnR legacy as that paranoid redhead, who was nothing but sloppy & shit sounding live from 1988 on. Not to mention he’d not show up for “work”. Should have canned his primadonna a$$.

do you think that Axl will get worse on 60 years old? think about that again, maybe on 70 or 80 years old, but 60 is still younger for a rock star to go out for tours

Mike.
Buckethead is better than any guitarist who was in the band, more than slash and anybody, and i’m sure he’s better than the new one..
but he didn’t got known just like slash got known, thats why people that hear the old guns n’ roses like him the most

Thanks to Axl’s singing, talent, moves, character, etc the rest of the guys are famous. Label liked Axl more than anyone. So Adler as well as others need to be thankful for that singer. The singer made it happen.

Saint Subversive | 3/27/2009, 8:31 am EST

So how many shows does Axl plan on not showing up for at the last minute this tour? Will he throw an infantile tantrum when he finds out nobody wants to pay to see his tour, just like nobody wanted to pay to hear his crappy album? Do any of his yes-men even have the courage to tell him that Chinese Democracy flopped? Stay home, Axl, and keep this reptilian puke and your favorite ass-kissing sycophant Sebastian Bach with you.

I don’t know if he quit or he was fired, but I can say with unwavering certainty that DJ Ashba is no longer in Guns N’ Roses.

I honestly don’t care if the line up over the years has changed, the band is still Guns N’ Roses, it still has Axl Rose and Dizzy Reed in it, their new stuff is good and members like Slash, Izzy and Duff are long gone from the band but their work is still legendary.

I’m friends with DJ Ashba on Facebook, and he is working with Sixx A.M. again.

I don’t think he’ll ever actually tour with Guns – he’s just replacing Robin’s parts for the follow-up record, and hopefully writing some new stuff.

Paul McCartney has joined Guns.

I wasn’t aware that Guns N’ Roses even existed anymore. I thought Axl went into hiding after November Rian.

If you are a GN’R fan, and you’re not a Slash fan, then you are a stone cold dope.

Give me some hot wax and I’ll gladly go to town on Axl’s back, sack and crack.

oh boy .. I thought Ashba has something going for him but I guess not if he has to resort to this. Only a total washed up loser would join this guns fiasco. I mean look at the guys …. Britney Spears could step into Axl’s place and the band would fit right in .. oh yeah thats right LITERALLY.

These cheap sidemen Axl hires … it shows you what the reality of rock tours is these days. If you are not 40 plus and famous you aint gonna be … just a cheap paid sideman to an aging old freak. Gee .. I’d rather watch old Golden Girls episodes on TV than be one of these guys or worse – pay to see them.
