“American Idol” Boots Alexis Grace, Welcomes Back Carrie Underwood

3/19/09, 11:13 am EST

Now that American Idol judges can “save” one contestant that would have otherwise been booted, the show’s producers can speed through 90 percent of the results and draw out the agonizing “will they or won’t they save the contestant?” debate with sadistic slowness. We were reminded of the suspense from the moment the show started last night (”In my hand, I have the results that may shock you,” Ryan Seacrest warned) and until Alexis Grace opened her mouth to sing again, it seemed plausible the judges would use their one unanimous save on the contestant Simon had called a “dark horse” of Season Eight.

But, let’s go back to the beginning of the results show. After Ryan’s ominous opening, we got the usual clip package of Tuesday’s performances. Then the top 11 launched into Elvis’ “Trouble” — deemed appropriate for Grand Ole Opry week because Opry member Travis Tritt covered it, natch. The plus: the judges decide to have Scott MacIntrye play piano (intentionally or unintentionally feeding into Paula’s “Scott, your piano is becoming a crutch” comment from Tuesday?), which eliminates any awkward choreographing situations. The minus: the horrific lip-syncing is making these numbers even more painful than the Ford music commercials.

Last night we also got a new pre-taped package that took us behind the scenes after last week’s results show. And then, finally … the results. Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai were safe, safe, safe. Allison Iraheta and Michael Garver were told one of them is in the bottom, and Paula picked Allison. Ryan confirmed Allison was in the bottom, but then told Michael he was in the bottom three, too (in the words of Stephanie Tanner, “how rude!”).

The hyper-speed continued after Brad Paisley performed “Then”; in a matter of seconds we found out Scott MacIntyre, Megan Joy, Matt Giraud and Kris Allen were also all safe and ultimately Adam Lambert moved to the Top 10 and Alexis Grace joined the bottom three. Allison headed back to safety almost immediately leaving Alexis and Michael in the bottom — the “shocking” results Ryan promised.

Finally, after former Idol winner Carrie Underwood duetted with Randy Travis on “I Told You So,” the promised drama played out: Simon admitted the judges would consider saving one of the bottom two this week. Ryan revealed Alexis received the fewest of the more than 31 million votes cast, and Simon asked Alexis to sing again. But the dreadful arrangement of “Jolene” didn’t get any better and Alexis, overwhelmed by nerves, sounded worse than she did on Tuesday. The judges ultimately booted her, leaving the judges’ save in tact.

Next week, the Top 10 (who will be heading to a venue near you on this summer’s Idol tour), tackle Motown and President Obama’s Tuesday night speech will bump Idol to Wednesday and Thursday. Was Alexis rightfully eliminated? Is it wrong to sing the song that got you booted when you’re fighting for your spot? Sound off in the comments.

whaaaat?? megan joy is the WORST one!

imnottellin | 3/19/2009, 11:50 am EST

I think the contestants should be able to sing anything they want to sing if they are fighting for their career.

Les | 3/19/2009, 11:51 am EST

ALexis should have stayed. It was a shame to put her through that. She is better than that arrangement of Jolene. There are 3 other contestants that should have been knocked off rather than her. I wont name names.

This is a truly sad day for “Idol.” I feel that Alexis was one of the most gifted performers to appear on the show in this — or any — season. It really makes you wonder about the American public — but also the judges, who ignored their rave reviews of most of her other performances to allow this wrong-headed decision to stand.

Judy | 3/19/2009, 12:04 pm EST

Why would you keep Meagan, Scott, Michael, or even Anoop over her? One bad arrangement and you’re out? I agree with the poster who said that the contestants should be able to sing whatever song they like in order to stay.

long time idol watcher | 3/19/2009, 12:05 pm EST

Yes I think it is fair, a good singer, if they picked the correct song for their vocal range then that individual should be able to sing the song at the their best.

anonymous | 3/19/2009, 12:09 pm EST

unfortunately…people are the judges now. megan may be the worst one…but people like her more than alexis (who is more talented)

but…what the heck happened to Carrie’s look? it looks like she had a tarantula on her head? what’s up with the hairdo. and that is such a gaudy dress she’s wearing!

Jim72344 | 3/19/2009, 12:17 pm EST

Megan Joy is the next worst. Alexis “was” the worst.

chickc | 3/19/2009, 12:22 pm EST

There are many good singers on this show, and many that have had a rough song or two (because they’re human). Alexis just didn’t cut it this time round, but she really made a good run for it. (Hey, ya can’t keep everybody, its a show requiring elimination to find the winner).

Me | 3/19/2009, 12:23 pm EST

The poor kid tries to do everything … show range, stay true to herself, dirty it up, pick the right song … the judges tell her to do, often with conflicting advice, and they let her go. I hope someone out there helps her fulfill her dream!

croc | 3/19/2009, 12:24 pm EST

I found Alexis a bit boring. These competitions are looking for something new and different. She is talented, and I’m sure she’ll do well in the industry; she’s just not what the show needs right now.

Anonymous | 3/19/2009, 12:35 pm EST

Alexis Grace, the 12 year old hooker is finally good. Hooray!

Alexis Grace, the 12 year old hooker is finally gone. Hooray!

R T Johnson | 3/19/2009, 12:48 pm EST

There are 3 or 4 of the top 10 worse than Alexis… but I don’t think she could have made the top 4, either. Her leaving so soon was a surprise, but that keeps it interesting. People are fickle – one bad performance and there go the votes. It’s kind of like that for artists, too, though. Consistency is important. Lesson learned the hard way.

Anonymous | 3/19/2009, 12:57 pm EST

All of the singers are pretty good this season, but as at least one of you already mentioned, the format of the show requires elimination each week. Each of the contestants has the potential, perhaps the desire, and certainly the national exposure, to develop a singing/performing career. Some, including Alexis, also have the “look.”

Two other comments. I do think it very strange that contestants must repeat the song that got them a low vote when they are fighting for another chance. And I also think it very strange that contestants get so much help on styling their wardrobe and appearance, yet seemingly little help on choosing songs appropriate to their range and other vocal strengths. I additionally wonder why, since the format of the show is similar each year, contestants have not already decided which songs they can blow everyone away on before they even tryout for their first AI audition.

Robbery | 3/19/2009, 1:01 pm EST

Alexis was both insulted (Randy didn’t even get her name correct), and robbed. Get rid of that big oil-rig worker stiff. Or the semi-blind charity/pity case (aren’t people sick of his playing up the disability angle?). Or the weird gal who can’t dance (but has nice teeth). Also, Carrie Underwood’s hair was a joke….she is only 26, but that sprayed-stiff helmet hair looked like it belonged on a 50-year old CW singer…maybe she’s just trying to fit in there at the Grand Ol’ Opry!

Sandy G | 3/19/2009, 1:13 pm EST

Listening to Carrie Underwood sing made it apparent why she is the most sucsessful of all the Idols to date. Her voice was incredable. It was easy to get past the hairstyle once she started to sing. Great performance.

DTCxxx | 3/19/2009, 1:17 pm EST

Alexis Grace needed more help with her dress, but other than that, she can sing circles around a few of the other contestants. Megan Scott is absolutely the worse “singer” (and I use the word loosely in her case) I have ever had to listen to. Thank God I can Tivo past her! And the oil rig guy is nice, but he can’t sing anywhere close to Alexis Grace. She was different in a way that was refreshing. Shame on the public picking boobs and blue collar over talent!

DG | 3/19/2009, 1:17 pm EST

I personally loved Alexis Grace’s voice – she had a very unique look and sound, and I thought she had a real shot at making it all the way (or at least the top 4). Her nerves did get the best of her last night, and in desperation, she overdid the song. She would have been better to stick with the softer version of Tuesday night. I hated seeing her leave, but understood the judges’ decision. Must say, though – she will be missed.

Amanda | 3/19/2009, 1:30 pm EST

She was my favorite. I don’t know why people didn’t like her or vote for her. Michael Sarver, or that Kris guy.. or the blind guy.. they are all way worse. come on america.. seriously?

Ronald Weber | 3/19/2009, 1:45 pm EST

Alexis, was the most soulfull and interesting contestant on this show, if she was allowed to sing her choise of song, she would have blown them all away, I have no doubt someone will pick her up and make a star out of her, just like Jennifer Hudson.

robie | 3/19/2009, 1:49 pm EST

It was a reasonable conclusion, given that she really didn’t sing very well this week. After all, that’s what happens on this show. What probably makes it disappointing to many is in the early going she had been so highly praised, only to quickly fall. As for your asking should they have to do the same song, I think you are on to something with that. However, the logistics with the band would be rather difficult were a contestant able to choose another song on the fly.

rock | 3/19/2009, 2:05 pm EST

We will all miss Alexis, her great voice, her upbeat personality, and her delectably edgy look. I know that Lil Rounds outsings her, but I really thought, given the chance, she could go deep. That leaves some decidedly overrated talent, such as Megan Joy and Matt Giraud.

Joan | 3/19/2009, 2:09 pm EST

I agree about Megan Joy. I’m sorry she stayed and Alexis was sent home. If she didn’t look like she does she’d have been gone long ago, imho. Alexis is a far better singer, despite the Joline song, which was pretty awful.

Rodgman | 3/19/2009, 2:13 pm EST

Alexis was my favorite also. Unfortunately, she set a very high standard for herself early on with that incredible rendition of “I Never Loved a Man”. It really became imperative from that point forward that she choose her songs very carefully … songs that would continue to emphasize and highlight her singing strengths. I don’t think that either “Dirty Diana” or “Jolene” were good song choices for her. I have to wonder who was advising her on this matter. If she was relying on someone to help her make her song choices, she didn’t get very good advice. Anyway, it’s really a shame that she didn’t go further. I hope that she is able to find success elsewhere.

Miss Kitty | 3/19/2009, 2:29 pm EST

I am so very sad to see Miss Alexis voted off.. Every season starts out to be a popularity contest then half way through the season the voters get serious and vote the right way! I beleive Alexis had a great chance of going all the way or least to the top 3.. I beleive fans take it for granted that their Idol is safe so they don’t vote.. Had Alexis made it through her fans would have made sure they got all their votes in.. She is a doll and has great vocals and I pray she is given a record deal.. Alexis please don’t give up! I am so sorry to see you leave and sorry you will not be on the Idol tour! Your song choice was not my fav but you did not butcher Jolene like Adam killed Ring of Fire! His fans pulled through for him.. As for Megyn she is sweet and pretty but the girl can’t sing or dance. Popularity kept her safe! God Bless you Alexis Grace.. Best wishes. Hope to see you on a record lable soon..

mmego | 3/19/2009, 2:30 pm EST

I think she got booted partly because she promised to “dirty it up” next time. She repeated it several times and I thought “oh, she shouldn’t have said that…” She sounded like, look, I’ll sing naked if it will help. I really thought she would go a lot farther with her voice. Megan, Scott, and Michael should thank their lucky stars this week. One of them should go home next week for sure.

Lynnie | 3/19/2009, 2:36 pm EST

I have to agree with everyone, that Alexis had a far better voice than many of the others. This is supposed to be the best “singer” contest.

Anonymous | 3/19/2009, 2:37 pm EST

Alexis and Allison are two of my favorites which makes me wonder if there’s something wrong with me.

julie | 3/19/2009, 2:56 pm EST

Alexis’ singing overall was the most interesting and soulful, most mature, and most musical in the competition. While her Jolene understandably didn’t inspire votes, her promise must also have inspired complacency among voters, who assumed she’d get through anyway and voted instead for their favorite underdog. This would have been the appropriate time to use the save, and the fact that the judges let her go suggests that this show is not so much about talent and good singing after all. It would seem Simon thinks he’s got the pulse of the common denominator, and that mediocraty is what is most easily marketed.

Anonymous | 3/19/2009, 2:59 pm EST

I was thinking last night that they should pick any song they like to save themselves. They’re trying to save themselves from a subpar performance they gave the night before (which could be to blame because of their poor song choice or the genre chosen by the show’s producers), using the same song! It’s just ridiculous. Let them have a song prepared throughout the whole season to be their “save” song.

I actually loved the way Alexis sang Jolene, it was in my head for hours afterwards. I couldn’t believe she got voted off and then dissed by the judges. Hope she has a great career ahead of her.

nwclassicalguitarist | 3/19/2009, 3:17 pm EST

All I hear is that American Idol is a ’singing’ competition. Am I the only one who sees this competition for what it is? Clearly it is about _performing_ and not about singing! Idols are judged based on their performance, which happens to be the exhibition of their talent, which happens to include singing, but is so much more than singing. To be a successful Idol, one must be an amazing singer before a foot is put on stage. Any issues with an Idol’s voice – no matter how it arises (nerves, wrong song, bad genre, lack of judge appreciation) – subjects them to failure.

Goodbye to the 12 year old hooker.

Anonymous | 3/19/2009, 3:28 pm EST

Can we get rid of the blind-guy!!! He is getting votes because people feel bad for him and the judges are are too scared to say anything bad. He is terrible!!!!!

johnny | 3/19/2009, 3:39 pm EST

Alexis is way better than at least 3 of the other singers. that was some major bull last night

Sid Zork | 3/19/2009, 3:54 pm EST

Alexis Grace has something special that only 4 others on American Idol have. Most contestants are quite forgettable. So once again, it this a talent contest or a popularity contest. Hope we see more of Alexis in the future, she has verv!

Joe Blow | 3/19/2009, 4:24 pm EST

Someone needs to direct the singers that Pink hair, and tattoos are not mainstream, most Middle Class American are turned off by anyone that is not like the “Girl Next Door” someone needs to save these strange individuals and explain the facts of life to them.
It is OK to look different, but it may hurt their career.

alexisisdope | 3/19/2009, 5:01 pm EST

the show will be much less interesting to watch, i was watching because of alexis – her voice is so great. i have this far out notion that they will bring her back, somehow. i can only hope!!

anonymous | 3/19/2009, 5:14 pm EST

very sad that we still have people in this world that are so rude…like the person who criticized the ‘blind guy’. his name is scott and is very talented and deserves to be in the place he is for his ability not because he is blind.

Anonymous | 3/19/2009, 5:43 pm EST

to 5:14:

He is still “the blind guy” because that is the only reason he is still on the show. He lacks real talent. Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder would be embarrassed that he is still around….

dingbat | 3/19/2009, 5:51 pm EST

just wanted to clarify an error, Elvis’ Trouble and Travis Tritts T.r.o.u.b.l.e. are too differnt songs. check out the lyrics!!

Anonymous | 3/19/2009, 6:00 pm EST

I have to say that the best person in this competition was definitely not Alexis, but I also agree that she should not have recieved the boot last night. I’m picking Danny to win the whole thing, and I’m making the prediction that the next two off the show are Michael and Megan Joy.

MeganNo-Joy | 3/19/2009, 6:03 pm EST

Man, Alexis “Super hot” Grace goes home and Scott “Creepy perma-smile” MacIntire stays. I’m again convinced that this is the worst season ever.

Glimmer Twin | 3/19/2009, 6:05 pm EST

Is it just me or did Randy Travis look like Mick Jagger if he went through Southern charm school?

You must be a pedophile, because she looks just like a 12 year old hooker.

Actually, Glimmer Twin…. i thought Randy Travis looked more like a redneck version of David Bowie.

What is going on? Alexis was great. The heavy set guy, or the blind guy,or Megan could have gone. Hope someone picks up Alexis and gets an album out by her before the AI tour starts. That will show them. What is going on?

anon | 3/19/2009, 8:38 pm EST

I think its pretty obvious that Scott is just getting pity votes, because he has a blatant lack of talent. Plus, Adam needs a punch in the throat for BUTCHERING a Johnny Cash classic.

maswinaz | 3/19/2009, 9:00 pm EST

You have to be kidding me! Did I really hear the word “dope” in reference to “awesome, great, really good”? Isn’t this a family friendly show? Isn’t this show supposed to be something to encourage kids to work hard at developeing their talents? I really don’t want to live in a world where kids are saying “Wow that was dope!” Haven’t we learned anything? My son became a heroin addict right out of high school. Our family is not a stranger to the pain and devastation that drugs can bring to a family. I am offended by the reference made two nights in a row and repeated over and over again to make sure everyone heard it. Well, I bet EVERYONE did hear it, even the young, impressionable children who love to watch the show. Guaranteed, they will be repeating that phrase on the playground this week. An apology would be nice, but probably unrealistic. I am hoping I am not the only one upset by the references. We are doing all we can to not glamorize drugs for the youth of our country. Why can’t they help us in that effort?

MervThePerv | 3/19/2009, 9:03 pm EST

Hey Hugh Hefner:Get a hold of Alexis as soon as possible so she can complete the “Dirtying up” cycle

I have to agree with you. the “dope” comment surprised me too. Inappropriate!

skipper | 3/19/2009, 9:28 pm EST

Scandal? It was impossible for the judges to save Alexis. Earlier Ryan had already confirmed with the other 10 contestants that they were safe and to pack their bags they were going on the summer tour. If Alexis would have been saved she would return next week and someone else could be voted off. Shame

dlt | 3/19/2009, 9:44 pm EST

Bah–humbug–you hate music. They all need to go, including Simon Cowell. Check out segments of Hy Lit, Ready Steady Go, Where the Action Is, 1950s thru mid-1960s Dick Clark–songwriters–the Henry Rollins show

pissed off | 3/19/2009, 10:31 pm EST

I keep saying it over and over again. American Idol is supposed to be a singing competition and not a beauty competition. The judges keep praising Megan Joy. For what!! We all know she can’t sing. It’s all about looks!! Shame on you Simon!!

Interested | 3/19/2009, 11:31 pm EST

I agreed that when the contestant is fighting for the save, then he or she should be given the song choice. No sense in working the same song.

DD | 3/20/2009, 12:04 am EST

American Idol is certainly about the best singer, but they are also looking for a combination of singing and best performer. AI knows that they need someone who will generate CD sales and concert sell-outs, like a David Cook. There are only a very few contestants who have both and only one who is truly fascinating to watch. I loved Alexis Grace – what a voice in a little body. For some reason, she was pretty shy when interviewed and maybe that didn’t inspire voters. She will do really well, she just needs to jump on it NOW.

Oliver | 3/20/2009, 2:17 am EST

I think Alexis was the reason I was watching the show. I tuned in to hear her sing, and I’d replay her songs, loved her voice. Ok, so why is she out. I think the top two women are Alexis and Alison, and these two are better then all the guys with maybe the exception of Adam, and Gokey (who has pretty dull presence). And, 31,000,000 votes in 2 hours is equal to over 250,000 calls per minute, continuosly for 120 mintutes. I don’t buy that the capacity to answer calls at that rate yet exists. So the judges choose, and they perhaps have chosen Alison to go all the way, and her best competiton was Alison so they got rid of Alexis. Or, Alexis took a break, and they got rid of her for that. And, they have been clearly setting her up for the last two weeks to take a fall, and meanwhile praising Anoop, and Michael, and Blind dude, and Alex, all of whom can’t touch Alexis performance or vocal wise. What a drag Alexis is gone!

Dean | 3/20/2009, 4:06 am EST

Allison is clearly the best singer this season, and did not belong in the bottom three. The Blind guy should have gone home.He is the weakest one there.Alexis went home too early. This happens nearly every year on American Idol.

abba babba | 3/20/2009, 4:29 am EST

Peggy Demetrius | 3/20/2009, 8:38 am EST

I think the judges wasted their save. After the top 10 it is not needed and Alexis was one of the top four for sure. They will never need the safe after this point and she was worth saving. Bad call judges.

dlt | 3/20/2009, 9:03 am EST

The best singer? That’s like asking who’s the best comic–or anything else. The individual could be famous or not; everyone’s subjective, a judge, a king/queen, but we allow ourselves to be swayed by demographics, cynics, hateful, money/status grubbing clowns.

Why Madonna, followed by (daughter)Brittney Spears. Because they’re blond (Aryan)women? Many fine looking women at the malls too, everywhere, in fact.

Simon Cowell said that Bob Dylan’s no good. How can he judge Dylan? Cowell wouldn’t know a songwriter if he/she bit him.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Cowell–Randy and Paula too?–listens to Dylan in the closet.

Lori | 3/20/2009, 11:54 am EST

Carrie Underwood was flawless Wednesday. I loved it.

Haley | 3/20/2009, 12:04 pm EST

Bad call! If the judges new rule of a last minute “save” is to give the singers a chance to show them one last time that they are worthy – then they should be given the option to sing whatever song they want. We already knew the judges hated Alexis’ song choice (Jolene) – so why have her sing it again! You already know the outcome. Whoever get’s the “save” factor next time – will more than likely lose it as well. I can’t imagine the pressure to perform. The drama of it all – for pete’s sake – just give it to them. Let them perform and get voted for on the next round.

And I have to agree, they are several who are there that should have gotten the boot first. I think one in particular has a sympathy factor in their favor more so than their voice! Also are teenage girls voting for the good looks this season?

I think the “powers that be” should be rethinking this format.

Cindy | 3/20/2009, 12:07 pm EST

Alexis, was definitely one of the top 3. The judges messed up by not saving her. All of her other performances were perfect! I also think they should have a different song to save themselves. It doesn’t make any sense to sing the one that got you the least votes.
I hope someone snatches Alexis up for a record deal. She is truly very talented.

I Smell A Fix | 3/20/2009, 2:57 pm EST

Megan Joy should have gotten the hook. The oozing and gushing is becoming so over the top that I’m beginning to smell a big, fat rat! If Simon is looking for a new bed partner he should keep it out of the Idol contest…unless of course they’re looking to crown a new Britney Spears????

I cannot believe tha tmy absolute all-time favorite contestant was voted off! I was honestly not expdcting it :( I thought that Michael Sarver would be the one to pack his bags, because, let’s face it, he sucks big time. He caan’t sing (and I can’t stress that enough), has no presence and he’s just a bit dull, really. He’s only lasted as long as he has because he’s a “nice guy” and all the blue collar hicks relate to him so he gets their votes.
I don’t really have any beef with the other contestants -except that I think Michael needs to GO! And that I only really watched it because of Alexis. I hope that some record label snaps her up because she has a really beautiful voice. Terrible performace of Jolene, though, it has to be said. But they should have saved her. She’s too good to just be dropped like that. I hope that Michael gets voted off next week -he has no place on this show let alone in the top 10!! Come on, I mean, seriously..would YOU buy his records?
That’s what I thought..
Alexis is the only person who, if she put out a record, I would buy it.

carries hairdo was horrible i dont know what she was thinking not attractive at all.

Frank | 3/20/2009, 4:14 pm EST

There is a simple explanation….Those “judges” have a taste for shit.

Curious | 3/20/2009, 6:26 pm EST

I wonder if the reason Alexis had a low number of votes is because most votes come from a person’s home town. Memphis was split between two top performers on AI and Anoop also has ties to Memphis. I’m just wondering if this is a factor in her low vote count. What do you think?

it is not nice to call Scot “the blind guy” please show some respect

AI 2009 took a HUGE dive in legitimacy when Alexis Grace was let go. She has the full package (voice, stage presence, confidence, showmanship, looks, personality) of elements that make a star. She also brought lots to this year’s show that now will be missing. Several of the contestants are straight up boring. Also, it’s a good group overall, but only a small handful of them have talent in Alexis’ league.

What made them tease her so with the Save, when everyone knows that 1) they don’t intend to use it so soon, and 2) they have 3 clear favorites, and 99:1 odds no one outside of those 3 will get the benefit of the Save.

Also, why did Simon end last weeks 2-hour show by telling Alexis, straight off a good performance and positive comments from 3 judges, “not as good as you think it was.” Huh? How does he know what she thinks? Why the destructive comment with no explanation, especially after she got crammed into a very small time-window because they let other contestants take up more time?

And why the bizarre phone number for her last week?

More to the point, why does AI keep deleting threads off their website from fans wanting to know why they got zero text messages back this week after voting for Alexis dozens of times? And why do they delete threads pointing out the inconsiderate way she was treated, as well as the odd unanswered questions about votes for her? And why do they delete threads pointing out that, with all these inconsistencies and unfortunate events, a case for Alexis to join the top 10 on tour this summer is far stronger than the case to send 13 to the final 12 was, and that a show that bent its rules to allow 13 into 12 could certainly send the very worthy 11th contestant on tour?

I won’t say anything negative about any other candidate, but will simply state that 1) Alexis Grace was clearly worthy of at least the top 6, and 2) While her performance this week was not great, it was not even the worst this week, and in consideration of her other strong performances, and red flag issues about both the voting and the way she was treated, AND the fact that you have been merciful on others when outside their genre (and that Alexis would have friggin jammed on Motown next week!!), she should have been kept.

And the final big question, why did they, or at least Simon, turn on her? They wanted “dirty” and she gave it. Some said it was all she could do, so she showed her softer more human side (song performance notwithstanding). I would have thought some of what is written here to be paranoia, if I had not witnessed the problems with voting, & the fact that others saw the same things I did, and most telling of all, I witnessed the shocking fact that AI is deleting threads on its website that are NOT in any way offensive, but merely point to and ask very obvious questions about inconsistencies with the treatment of Alexis. What are they afraid of, by resorting to such censorship? (And no, I am NOT one of the ones who even contributed to those threads – I just saw what was happening.)

She will do fine with her music, but AI owes her a lot more than the short stick she got.

Boo, AI! You know all of these things to be true. And you know who “Vote for the Worst” is plugging. And speaking of that, why not just tell the truth about the reason for the Save? And if a Save is justified for the wrong person getting voted off, then why only one? The distance between the best half dozen or so is not only small, but seems to change from week to week.

Again, boo!! Your 2008 show is tainted. I’ll watch one more time, at least part of a show, to see how this travesty is handled. After that, at least one of your faithful watchers is changing channels. You won’t miss just one, but hopefully others see the same and will join in.

OK, let’s stop the BS and get real. Alexis should not have been voted off yet, the blind guy was the weak link, he is soooo pedestrian, he has no place on the show, stop the BS and send him home. This is reverse discrimination. And the only reason Megan is still there….? Great presentation of those mammories in that halter dress! Even half-gay Ryan was dumb-founded! Hellooooo somebody out there, get this show back on line! America is waiting.

raisedlefteyebrow | 3/20/2009, 11:26 pm EST

I give this pathetic music polluting show 2 more seasons before it kicks the bucket.

jazk | 3/21/2009, 3:39 am EST

Judges might regret that and call her back nex time.. Watch out people!!

alia | 3/21/2009, 11:21 am EST

I am totally blind, and I must say none of your comments about scott are offensive to me. I agree with all of you completely. He is horrible, and he is getting sympathy votes, and I as a blind woman am angry about that. Vote for him because he is talented, which he is as a pianist, not a singer. He has no concept of the pitch of a song. He shouldn’t have made it to the top 13; my fave, Nathaniel Marshall.

CarrieFan | 3/21/2009, 6:03 pm EST

While I was very glad to finally have a country week on Idol, I think that people who stray from the genre should be punished for that, not sent on tour. Adam’s total thrashing of Ring of Fire was unacceptable, whether or not it was inspired by someone else’s remake. No, Alexis didn’t do a fantastic job of Jolene, but at least she did it country, and Jolene is a very hard song to nail. I agree about the save thing… if she gets a chance to save herself, she should be able to shoot for it in whatever genre she does best, to show them that maybe it was just country week that killed her, and since she probably won’t be a country artist anyway it’s ok. But I agree, Michael and Megan need to go. So does Scott. I don’t like any of them. I did like Megan, when she did Rockin Robin, but after that she annoyed me. I really liked Adam too until he decided he was above the genre he was supposed to be singing and butchered it. bleh.

Jeff | 3/22/2009, 11:27 am EST

C’mon, people. Don’t be fooled by this judges’ save nonsense. They aren’t going to use it until far later in the competition, and only for Adam, Danny, or perhaps Allison. It’s just another way they are going about selecting the winner themselves.

Socorro | 3/22/2009, 12:07 pm EST

All I can say, make sure you put in your precious vote. No use when the counting is over. You can criticize everybody else you want but, in the end it’s that “vote” that counts for this contest. Good luck to Alexis. You might even turn to be another Jennifer Hudson. This is just one of the many opportunities you can get to have those “authorities” in the music industry notice you. Keep on trying…

wellidoloveit | 3/22/2009, 2:45 pm EST

watched it on friday night here in london, what a TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE!!!

seriously, they so shoulda saved her, she was so gooooDDD!!!!!!

and what are people’s opinions of adams messed up ring of fire? i didnt really like, but interested to hear your thoughts.

gawd, why did she have to go, i tell you, you guys need to vote more next time!!!! don’t let megan be the next one!! please!

whalespoon | 3/23/2009, 12:07 pm EST

I cannot wait for AI to run its course on television and become another Trivial Pursuit question. This show has gotten worse and worse almost every year and the talent pool from which they are drawing is becoming smaller and less talented with each passing season. Stop watching and voting so that the show can be put out of its misery.

Sorry! | 3/23/2009, 4:44 pm EST

Alexis did DESERVE to go. Just not that intersting or good. As Simon would say, “sorry”.

You can argue over who should have gone this round or next. There are a few obvious ones for the next few weeks as well.

Just goes to show... | 3/24/2009, 6:13 pm EST

Just goes to show that most Americans have all of their taste in their mouth.

I downloaded Alexis Grace’s “Dirty Diana” from iTunes and the song is absolutely stunning.
She is one of three artists that have a signature sound.

Danny, Adam, & Alexis should have been the top three.

Gillian | 5/6/2009, 8:47 pm EST

I think that Alexis was good

foxy roxy | 7/26/2009, 10:50 pm EST
