Will U2 last for another 20 years? What really happened with those scrapped Rick Rubin recording sessions? What does Bono think about Pop 12 years later? Check out raw interview from Brian Hiatt’s U2 cover story, where Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. speak candidly about the band’s tight bond, times they pondered going solo, how Rubin wanted to approach the U2 sound and how their new No Line on the Horizon has its roots in Pop.

great interview.

I do wish they gave themselves more credit for Pop.

While it was considered a commercial failure (by their high standards), i thought it was a great album.

I always love reading interviews of U2. Their words are reflective and respectful whether they talk about their unique friendship, the music or their producers.

I also think that the criticisms about “Pop” were a little too harsh. In other interviews U2 talked about the lack of time for the album, because the tour had already been booked. For me it´s an exciting and courageous record, I like the sound experiments and at the same time I can feel the heart and soul of U2 in it. My two favourite songs are “Gone” and “Mofo”. Both songs are very dense and the way Bono sings about his mother in “Mofo” is very moving.

No Line On The Horizon is a truly beautiful Album where they added several new colours to their sound. It’s just a shame that some people are truly colourblind.

I’m glad, I’m not.
