Motley Crue Go Cruising in an Ambulance to Announce Crue Fest 2 Tour

Mötley Crüe rolled up outside the 7th Avenue headquarters of Fuse TV in New York this afternoon in an old-school Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance that resembled the Ecto-1. Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee and Mick Mars emerged — with two emaciated Goth chicks wearing sexy nurse outfits, of course — and posed for photographs with fans who had gathered for one the band’s now signature public tour announcements. This time the rockers were in town to tell all about Crüe Fest 2, which kicks off in Camden, New Jersey, on July 19th with openers Godsmack, Drowning Pool, Theory of a Dead Man and Charm City Devils.

The tour is a bold move considering other festivals and treks are scaling back due to the recession. “I just didn’t want to go up against the economy, and start to put together a package with 21 artists and go out there,” Sharon Osbourne said of nixing this year’s Ozzfest. But the members of the world’s most dangerous rock & roll band are a bit more optimistic about Crüe Fest 2.

“On the first Crüe Fest, the economy was pretty much the same as it is now, and it didn’t seem like it affected sales at all,” says frontman Neil. “I think people still want to go out and have a good time, listening to some good rock music, and maybe forget about the shitty economy, have a couple of beers, and let loose.”

“When the economy goes to shit, entertainment is the one steady,” adds bassist Nikki Sixx. “That and alcohol. Ozzfest also paved the way for us to think about what we wanted to do in the future, and I’m excited to see that it’s had its run and it did what it did for a lot of fans, and hopefully, we can do the same thing.”

Crüe Fest 2 will feature the band ripping through their entire 1989 classic Dr. Feelgood, as this September marks the 20th anniversary of the album’s release. Neil said fans will get their first chance to hear several of the disc’s tracks for the first time live, as well as hits from the Crüe’s immense back catalog. Noting that there are at least six tracks from that effort the band has never performed outside a studio, he added that they’ve got a lot of work to do before those tunes are stage-ready.

“We had talked about doing Dr. Feelgood in its entirety… well, we had actually wrestled with that, Shout at the Devil, Girls, Girls, Girls, and when we decided on Feelgood, it was only after that that we realized it was 20 years,” Sixx said. “Looks like a big master plan, but it wasn’t.”

In addition, the band promised they’d start work on a new record after this summer’s Crüe Fest, and Lee confirmed that his reunited side project, Methods of Mayhem, would be returning this fall, too. Sixx has also been working on fresh material for his other band Sixx AM’s next offering.

After briefly intimating that the band has been approached about a possible Mötley Crüe-themed Guitar Hero, Sixx waxed poetic about American Idol alumn Carrie Underwood, and her recent take on their track “Home, Sweet Home,” which is this season of Idol’s official parting montage tune. Sixx said he’s hoping to work with Underwood in the not-so-distant future.

“I spoke to Carrie a while ago and she wanted to cover the song, and I was actually going to fly down to Nashville and play bass on it, but it was during the holidays, and I was just spending time with my family,” he explains. “After she cut it we spoke, and she was excited about it. In the end, the thing is, I think we both want to write songs together. She writes pop songs and I think I’m a pop songwriter, however the songs are performed.”

MOTLEY CRUE KICKS ASS!!!

CR1ZZ | 3/16/2009, 9:53 pm EST

The opening acts suck. No offence.
But the Crue rule 80’s hard rock! I have a higher opinion of them now due to Zeppelin, the kinks and Guns not reuniting properly. Motley Crue are right up there on my list with Van Halen, Def Leppard, the Who and the Stones who are all touring together PROPERLY. Except maybe the stones but the still do proper shows.

Another album would be tits! This whole past year people were amazed at the great new Metallica album, the return of AC/DC (always welcome)and Axl’s first material in what seemed like a lifetime. “Saints of Los Angeles” was nothing short of face-peeling, and unfortunately will never get the cred it’s rightfully due. Let me sum this up…13 tracks…no ballads! That’s balls! If this was Aerosmith coming out with thier first album in over 8 years you know what we would’ve gotten? Two kind-of-rocking tunes and 7 or 8 sound-a-like, lame ass break-up songs. Sorry Aerosmith, you used to be great.

Finally, Camden is referred to as Camden and not Philadelphia on a tour schedule.

Shout at the Devil [Elektra, 1984] Grade – D
It’s hardly news that this platinum product is utter dogshit even by heavy metal standards; under direct orders from editors who don’t know Iron Maiden from Wynton Marsalis, my beleaguered colleagues on the dailies have been saying so all year, and every insult goes into the press kit. Still, I must mention Mick Mars’s dork-fingered guitar before getting to the one truly remarkable thing about this record: a track called “Ten Seconds To Love” in which Vince Neil actually seems to boast about how fast he can ejaculate (or as the lyric sheet puts it, “cum”). And therein, I believe, lies the secret of their commercial appeal–if you don’t got it, flaunt it. Follow-up: “Pinkie Prick.”

Truly an underated guitarist, Mick Mars…and cheers to the Crue for gettin’ it together and puttin’ on a KICKASS show for CrueFest1! Like ‘em or not, one can’t deny they will go down in history! I wish them all the best on their upcoming tour!

helenkeller | 3/18/2009, 9:22 am EST

saw cruefest 1 it was amazing. cruefest 2 like bad. theory of a deadman are still touring with the crue? they should have gotten alice cooper! i like godsmack but there are only 2 good acts for $100 pit tickets. no thank you!

Nikki99 | 3/18/2009, 1:24 pm EST

Wow, they’ve really gotten ugly and old, lolz! Entertainment gets better with a bad economy?? Obviously, you’re not an economist Stikki. People can’t afford the min $100 tickets & $7 beers @ the arena, so we’ll all just stay home, listen to good tunes & party in a comfy backyard with our hot tub & cheap liquor. No one wants you anymore Stikki, except some skanky old broads living in a dream. Don’t go away mad, just go away.

CrueFest was awesome and I’m sure CrueFest 2 is gonna be awesome. I just wish they were coming to Wisconsin. I guess it wasn’t a spectacular crowd in Milwaukee last year-still prolly 10-12,000 people though. O well, not a huge fan of any of the supporters so it’s not a huge deal. It would be sweet to hear all of Dr. Feelgood though. That would be sweet.

Rockin' Out In Maine | 3/21/2009, 2:32 pm EST

Just saw the Crue on their tour closer in Portland, Maine. They were awesome. Rock out with your cock out! Went the night before on St. Patty’s day in Manchester, NH. My buddy got us kicked out! How the F#$% do you get kicked out of a Crue show? Hope I can see them in @ Mansfield.

Dear Members of Motley Crue:

I am writing to urge you to abandon the naughty nurse themes you have used in promoting “Dr. Feelgood”-related products. I hope you will reconsider linking female sexuality with nursing–a stereotype that has undermined the profession for decades–in the midst of a critical global nursing shortage.

I saw reports about the press conference for your summer 2009 Crue Fest 2 Tour, where you appeared with two women dressed in naughty nurse outfits. I note that this troubling theme is recurrent. In 2007, Vince Neil initially used the idea of naughty nurse waitstaff as a promotional theme for his West Palm Beach club “Dr. Feelgood’s” (thank you for abandoning that theme), and Tommie Lee’s appearance as “Dr. Feelgood” in Keith Anderson’s 2005 “XXL” video included naughty nurses. It’s not clear if the naughty nurses will be along for Crue Fest 2. But since you have stressed that your shows are a way to help fans cope with the lousy economy, we hope you will consider applying that laudable concern for public wellbeing to the nursing crisis, and leave the naughty nurse part out.

Presenting nurses as brainless bimbos reinforces a damaging stereotype. Of course people know these are not real nurses, and presumably most people don’t think real nurses show up for work in lingerie-like outfits, looking for sex. But the relentless global linking of the idea of nursing with vacuous female sexuality undermines nurses’ claims to adequate resources for education, research and clinical practice, encourages sexual abuse (a major problem for real nurses), and reinforces the idea that nursing is a low-skilled job for women with limited options, rather than a modern life-saving profession for members of both genders. Unlike medicine, nursing remains more than 90% female. And the nursing shortage continues to take lives worldwide.

There really are countless other ways to feel good, and we hope the Crue will consider them. Thank you.
