Let’s take a trip back to 1989 Seattle with Soundgarden. Trent Reznor might argue that the above video is why he felt “embarrassed” after hearing Chris Cornell’s new, Timbaland-produced Scream, as once upon a time Cornell’s Soundgarden were a bunch of hard-to-interview, long-haired rockers who liked to wear Nirvana shirts and make sweaty, kick-ass music. Before Superunknown, the band just hoped they’d making it bigger than Loverboy and Mr. Mister. “I recognize myself foremost as a visionary,” 1989 Cornell says.
What makes this Flashback extra-grungy is the interviewer, Nirvana guitarist Jason Everman, who is credited with playing on that band’s debut Bleach, even though he allegedly just helped fund the recording.
