Michael Jackson Sells Out 50 London Shows as Controversy Brews On Secondary Market

Tickets to all 50 of Michael Jackson’s This Is It! concerts at London’s O2 Arena have completely sold out, the BBC reports. After 360,000 presale tickets sold out in record time, the remaining tickets went on sale to the general public this morning, and they didn’t last long. Hundreds of fans “queued” outside the O2 Arena this morning to wait for tickets and over a quarter million people stormed Ticketmaster.co.uk. In the end, more than a million tickets for the This Is It! run were sold. But with a ticket this high in demand, there’s going to be a huge secondary market, and that’s where the controversy begins.

As Rock Daily reported this week, the Wall Street Journal recently exposed artists who set aside their own tickets for sale on the pricier secondary market; This Is It! promoters AEG Live did just that with some of the best seats to all the MJ shows and stuck a deal making Viagogo the authorized secondary-ticket dealer for the shows. AEG CEO Randy Phillips told Billboard.biz, AEG cut a deal with Viagogo “to give fans access to premium seats and the market would set the price on only a small percentage of the house every night; and, secondly, to give fans a peer-to-peer platform where they know these tickets aren’t counterfeited.”

But then, “Viagogo did something really bad yesterday we had no idea they were doing,” Phillips said. Apparently Viagogo then took those tickets they received from AEG and started e-mailing other secondary ticket brokers, offering them packages and discounts and thus raising the price on the secondary tickets even higher. Plus, by pushing these tickets off on brokers, neither AEG or Jackson would see the additional profits from these tickets that sold in the trinary market. AEG Live filed an injunction against Viagogo to ensure that the site actually sells tickets to fans instead of brokers.

With the 50 sell-out shows official, Jackson more than doubles Prince’s previous O2-record of 21 consecutive packed arenas. “Not only are these concerts unparalleled, these records will never be broken,” Phillips told the BBC. “We knew this was show business history, but this is a cultural phenomenon.”

I would never see MJ, but these ticketing agencies are a bunch of motherfuckers. I can’t wait until they day where the consumers have the upperhand by competition created by artists seeking alternate ticket selling sources. this will come back and bite them in the ass soon enough. ticketmaster/livenation will not stand the test of time.

David | 3/13/2009, 12:01 pm EST

I think the likelihood of Michael Jackson fulfilling his obligation of fifty shows is wide of the mark anyway! I think people who’ve bought tickets on the black market for those later shows could be in for a nasty surprise…

Travis | 3/13/2009, 12:37 pm EST

I bought 4 tickets for the Sept 6th show. Me and my family are flying to London from Canada. People don’t realize just how popular Michael Jackson is. What other artist could sell out a 20,000+ venue 50 times over…in the worst economic downturn in decades? One can…MJ

Chris | 3/13/2009, 12:43 pm EST

I have had the privilege of seeing Michael Jackson perform live twice and I am fortunate enough to have a ticket to see him this summer in London. His showmanship is incomparable. I have seen other 80’s pop phenomenons like Madonna and Prince live and they don’t come close to the electricity which Michael Jackson generates in a stadium or arena. He will prevail this summer. There are long enough breaks between each performance at the O2 to make the 50 peformances run doable.

Lauren | 3/13/2009, 12:55 pm EST

I tried to buy a michael jackson ticket this morning when they went on sale but all the sites i tried crashed and by the time they were working again all the tickets had gone. I was devastated when i couldnt get a ticket. I have bin a big fan of michaels all my life and i have always wanted to go to see him live but now i cant. Truly upset

MOFO | 3/13/2009, 1:07 pm EST

Hey MJFan, you little ponce – anyone who says anything about Whacko Jacko like that should get a medal – the ‘dude’ is a total freak show. His brain is the one that is rotting, as it yours.

Saddened Michael Fan | 3/13/2009, 1:19 pm EST

My presale code didn’t do anything for me. And then I tried from 3am until 7:30am to order tickets during the general sale. And after 5 and a half hours, came away ticketless. But I soon learned that AEG made a nice dollar selling a good chunk of tickets to Viagogo, tickets that I cannot afford. Good one, AEG, way to screw over the fans.

Tj | 3/13/2009, 1:21 pm EST

The touts will make mega bucks off these shows.. Its sad. Concerts these days are impossible to get tickets to first hand. Its robbery what is happening.

AJ | 3/13/2009, 1:56 pm EST

You few haters have far too much spare time in your hands.MJ is still biggest and best entertainer on the planet so just get use to it.

Andy | 3/13/2009, 4:14 pm EST

My presale code was no good spending hours online, the site kept crashing—then spent 5 hours trying today with no luck -only massive disappointment–cant understand how anyone got through to Ticketmaster when it crashed all the time. Waste of time –Obviously one big rip off– I do not believe the majority of tickets were sold online-

Steelersguy | 3/13/2009, 4:22 pm EST

That is the great thing about Prince. With his fan club the “actual” fans get the best seating in the house. I went to 11 Musicology shows in 2004 and had 1st or 2nd row 9 out of the 11 shows. That was kick ass!

massively disapointed mj fan | 3/13/2009, 4:28 pm EST

sooooo annoyed! i had a stupid pre-sale code – didnt work, had what i thought was “o2 priority” which didnt work (is absolute rubbish) and been trying general sale, everything kept crashing and slowing and then find out that loads of the AEG tickets were sold to secondary sellers… that makes me sick! so upset, ive been soo soo unlucky! :(

Anonymous | 3/13/2009, 4:48 pm EST

To all those moaning that they can’t go because the shows are sold out…

Get a job, and pay a little more for tickets from a broker!

I mean, Jesus Christ, with 50 shows, there’s somewhere around one million tickets available.

Surely, you shouldn’t have much difficulty finding a few at a reasonable price from a 3rd party.

David | 3/13/2009, 5:29 pm EST

What a con, every little ticket tout in the land can now get their little cut and the real fans have to pay hundreds of pounds for tickets to see their idle.
this isn’t just MJ, it happens all the time and it needs to be stopped. MJ himself should stop this, as he himself doesn’t see these extra commissions. Ticketmaster is like a tombola at a fair and they too are incompetent.
All in all, as a fan, going to see MJ at one of the 50 concerts should not be this hard.

I am sure when people say all the tickets are SOLD OUT, that they are not, surely 1 in 20 of the UK population that could and would see him haven’t bought a ticket in the 3 days I have been online. It’s just marketing spin and GREED. Disgusting.

Anon. | 3/13/2009, 6:25 pm EST

Aha I don’t quite know what you lot are on about. bought 4 great tickets FOR ME AND MY FAMILY on the opening of presale.August the 1st block a1 row c. couldn’t get that much better really. I think you lot are mad. a bunch of angry fans that have over xxagerated because your rubbish on computers and can’t use ticketmaster properly lol
Oh well, Good luck getting seats like mine off of secondary sellers
sellign at £900 a piece lol

David said: re: ticket brokers: “It’s just marketing spin and GREED. Disgusting.”

So you’re saying ticket touting for a few extra bucks, is BAD greed?

But Michael’s ripoff tickets in the first place, to pay off his super luxurious wealthy habits (like private amusement parks), is GOOD greed?

I just want to be clear about it.

Kay | 3/13/2009, 7:20 pm EST

I agree the ticket agencies have pulled a fast one and in desparation after 7 hours on line I purchased tickets at £205 each!! I managed to book more than 4 so if anyone is desperate can purchase from me

NTF | 3/13/2009, 7:27 pm EST

Sucessfully registered for the pre sales but didn’t receive a code. Got on ticketmaster before 7am and the best I was offered was right at the back on the upper level… rubbish. Not paying Viagogo prices, hoping for a reasonable one on ebay.

David | 3/14/2009, 6:43 am EST

I can’t say I agree with Chris. I have never seen Madonna live but I have seen Prince and I thought Prince was better live than MJ. Prince seemed a lot more free to do what he wanted and interacted with the crowd. Went from full production to very intimate acoustic sets and I really feel he took me on a rollercoster of emotions through the show. It was the best concert I have ever seen!

I was a little disappointed with MJ. It seemed a lot of hyped up people and not that much content really. MJ is a good dancer but he mimed most of the tracks and played to backing tracks. It was more about the hype of the audience. I think MJ has great marketing!!

Michael WILL definitely fulfill his obligation and perform all 50 shows as planned. If only because he DESPERATELY needs the money. The tickets for all 50 shows are completely sold out, so its a guaranteed paycheck. He’ll do them.

And then disappear again.

I would fly to london for two shows, (if they ever happened),
Led-Zeppelin 2nd one-off reunion
Kinks reunion
I would’nt see Michael Jackson even if he came to my neck of the woods and the tickets were $50. England has produced the greatest rock artists off all time, but for some reason it can fill 50 arenas full of pop fans. It raises the question …
What the fuck?

Rob J. | 3/14/2009, 8:46 pm EST

Michael’s certainly always been a talented entertainer. But I do think the praise and adulation he’s received is way too much.

Yes, his vocal style is distinct, and unique, but it’s hardly what anyone with a real ear for music, would call a ‘great voice’.

He’s also not much of a ‘musician’. Other than a little bit of rudimentary piano playing, I’ve never seen him pick up an instrument.

I wouldn’t really call him a great songwriter. Most of his songs were written by other people. And the songs that he did contribute to writing, have been very iffy.

Sure, he’s an amazing dancer, but that’s not really what music is all about.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate Michael Jackson, but there’s SO many more truly talented people than him, deserving of that kind of attention.

Blerta | 3/14/2009, 9:10 pm EST

The fact that Michael Jackson is still the king of pop music, it is revealed by the swift sale of tickets. This means that there are people out there that love and admire Michael Jackson and his music. Every time that such record setting events take place, the sale of tickets in a secondary market cannot be avoid. There are many examples of that: the rocketing price of Super Bowl tickets or the World Cup tickets. However, I think that in this case, it is not the fault of the event. The concert promoters, AEG Live were the first to put the tickets on a secondary market. They would have probably known that this would mean an immediate increase in ticket prices. I don’t really believe that they did that in order to give fans more possibilities to watch the show: I do think that they did this to raise the price of the tickets. Since they thought they had everything in control and that both AEG Live and Jackson would profit from this secondary market, they didn’t see any wrong doing in the action. The turning point and the start of the problems seem to be when AEG Live and Jackson lost the control of the ticket sales and therefore to the profit gained by the exponentially raising prices.
On the other hand, Viagogo could argue that since AEG Live accepted a secondary market, there is nothing in what they did. Is a secondary market permissible only when AEG Live does it? That might be the case on a legal standpoint. However, from a moral and ethical perspective Jackson and AEG Live did not fulfill their responsibilities to the fans. The fans showed their support to Jackson by immediately buying tickets. They were repaid with extremely high tickets and moral incorrectness. When looking at this issue, we can see that the first action taken by AEG Live to expand the sale into a secondary market was the root of the problem. I don’t think that there is much to do now to resolve the problem by neither AEG Live, Jackson or by filing lawsuits: the fans are the ones who are going to pay.

50 shows sold out in record time. That’s the power of a cultural phenomenon called Michael Jackson. The press like to put him down but the people shows that what matters is his music and art, not his look.

CR1ZZ | 3/15/2009, 8:47 pm EST

I have 3 important questions, (not stupid ones).

#2 Will Eddie Van Halen join him on stage for the guitar solo in ‘beat it’?
#3 WHO WILL BE THE SUPPORTING ACT?????

Kikuchiyo | 3/18/2009, 12:46 am EST

@Rob J.
On album “Of the Wall” Jackson wrote and composed 3 songs. Biggest hit from that album was song “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” and that is completely HIS song.
On album “Thriller” there is 9 songs and Michael Jackson ALONE wrote and composed 4 of them including 2 biggest hits from that album “Billie Jean” and “Beat It”.
On album Bad there is 11 songs and Michael Jackson ALONE wrote and composed 9 of them plus he cowrote and cocomposed Man in the Mirror. Only song that he didn’t wrote and composed was “Just Good Friends”.
On Dangerous there is 14 songs. 12 of them has Jackson’s signiture (8 of them are collaboration). Biggest hit from that album was “Black or White” and that is HIS song.
On HIStory there is 15 songs and 12 of them has Jackson’s signiture (5 are collaboration).
On Invincible there is 16 songs and 14 of them has Jackson’s signiture (12 are collaboration).

In Motown’s years Michael Jackson was a kid so he didn’t contribute as an author. In The Jacksons, Michael (co)wrote and (co)composed around 20 songs including hits “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)”, “This Place Hotel”, “Can You Feel It”, “State of Shock” etc.

About Jackson’s voice…
Michael Jackson has one of the best voice in music – 4 octave range (100% FACT). Also Seth Riggs, one of the best vocal coach in the world and founder of a technique “Speech Level Singing” said that Michael Jackson has the most perfect transition between registers of any singer he’s come across. BTW Seth Riggs was voice teacher to Barbra Streisand, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Julio Iglesias, Prince, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Cher etc.

About instruments…
Michael Jackson play a drums, piano, guitar, bongos… He can also improvise with anything to make music for example he can make music with bottles.

Kikuchiyo | 3/18/2009, 2:23 am EST

Little correction: Jackson didn’t co-wrote&composed “Man in the Mirror” on “Bad” album; he was co-producer with Quincy Jones.

Anyway, MICHAEL JACKSON IS THE KING OF POP!

So many haters on this post.
If you think so badly if this strange man, why waste your time time kicking up a stink about it?
Michael Jackson is a fruit loop, and a social retard and there’s no doubt about that.
I like what he did in his ‘prime’ as an artist and performer (even if he was using other peoples music and lyrics).
If i could get a ticket i’d go.

FormerFan | 3/27/2009, 8:55 am EST

I wouldn’t doubt if he’s about to die and just needs alot of money. I used to like MJ, but he disrespected all blacks AND people with Vitiligo with his plastic surgery and lie. No doubt toxic skin depigmentation chemicals have left him in his deteriorating state. His current fans are dellusional. The man LIMPED on stage for God’s sake. He can’t perform a concert. He can’t even TALK without sounding like he has a sinus infection and he had to LIPSYNCH all the songs on the HISstory tour because his voice is so damaged from the destruction and collapse of his nose. He’s running a scam.

Prince | 3/29/2009, 4:59 am EST

1/Jackson wasn’t a musician.
2/ And even if his company of discs claim he has composed twenty nine (29) songs since 40 years, in reality he wasn’t alone.

Off the wall: 10 songs – 3 songs by MJ (including biggest hit “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough”) (30%)
Thriller: 9 songs – 4 songs by MJ (including 2 biggest hits “Billie Jean” & “Beat It”) (44%)
Bad: 11 songs – 9 songs by MJ (82%)
Dangerous: 14 songs – 12 songs by MJ (86%)
History: 15 songs – 12 songs by MJ (80%)
Invincible: 16 songs – 14 songs by MJ (88%)

So in 22 years Michael Jackson released 6 studio albums. Cumulative that is 75 songs and 54 has Michael Jackson’s signiture or 72%. Of course there are many more songs (co) written & composed by Michael Jackson; around 20 in The Jacksons, then some previously unreleased and new songs on his compilation album from 2004 – “Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection”, then songs on his remix album “Blood On The Dance Floor” etc.
With Lionel Richie he wrote “We Are the World” and for that song Michael Jackson won Grammy Award (Song of the Year) as a songwriter. Also as a songwriter he won Grammy Award for Billie Jean (Best R&B Song) etc.
In 2002, Jackson was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

Jay-Z | 3/30/2009, 5:32 am EST

To Kikuchiyo: Prince is right

You said:

“I must correct Prince.
Songs (co)written & (co)composed by Michael Jackson”

Excuse me but you play with the words.

“Composed is not the same thing with…(co) composed.

For example: the song ” jam” was written and composed by rene moore, bruce swedien, michael jackson and teddy riley.

So without rene moore, bruce swedien and teddy riley, the songs “jam” could never have existed.

But you never talk about rene moore, bruce swedien and teddy riley!

You can’t assign songs to a single person while this song was composed by several persons.

(Fan = fanatic)

2/ “So in 22 years Michael Jackson released 6 studio albums.”

?????????

No between 1969-2008 – 39 years- michael jackson has composed 29 songs on 26 albums:

DIANA ROSS PRESENTS THE JACKSON FIVE (1969)

ABC (1970)

THIRD ALBUM (1970)

CHRISTMAS ALBUM (1970)

MAYBE TOMORROW (1971)

LOOKIN’ THROUGH THE WINDOWS (1972)

GOT TO BE THERE (1972)

BEN (1972)

SKYWRITER (1973)

MUSIC & ME (1973)

GET IT TOGETHER (1973)

DANCING MACHINE (1974)

MOVING VIOLATION (1975)

FOREVER, MICHAEL (1975)

THE JACKSONS (1976)

GOIN’ PLACES (1977)

DESTINY (1978)

OFF THE WALL (1979)

TRIUMPH (1981)

THRILLER (1983)

VICTORY (1984)

BAD (1987)

2300 JACKSON STREET (1989)

DANGEROUS (1991)

HISTORY (1995)

INVINCIBLE (2001)

Another thing: Prince is right when he said “He don’t play music on this songs, he sang only”

A singer can not make a career without musicians!

Kikuchiyo | 3/30/2009, 11:08 am EST

Rob J. aka Prince aka Jay-Z you are WRONG!
You completely IGNORED all Jackson’s collaborations. I explained everything about Michael Jackson’s songwriting in my posts –> 3/18/2009, 12:46 am EST and 3/29/2009, 11:39 pm EST. THAT IS COMPLETE TRUTH!
BTW it is very funny how you count Jackson’s songs. You don’t count songs cowritten & cocomposed by Michael Jackson, actually you don’t even MENTION those songs?!?!?!?! LOL Hmmmm, VERY interesting. Using same ANOLOGY do you know how many songs John Lennon wrote in The Beatles? The Beatles released 13 studio albums and using your great “I hate Michael Jackson” method John Lennon wrote ZERO, NULL, 0 songs because all his song are collaborations with McCartney and of course you don’t count COLLABORATIONS. Hahahahaha! You are very funny man.
You also said “29 songs from 26 albums”?!?!?! LOL Completely WRONG statistics.
Did you ever heard for group “The Jacksons”? For example songs “Blues Away”, “This Place Hotel”??? There are completely Michael Jackson’s songs. What about Michael Jackson’s song(s) from his remix album “Blood on the Dance Floor” like “Morphine” and many more from his compilation album “The Ultimate Collection” like “Sunset Driver”, “On the Line”, “In the Back”, “Beautiful Girl”, “The Way You Love Me” and what about song(s) “Someone in the Dark” from Thriller SE or “Streetwalker” and “Fly Away” from Bad SE… etc. etc.
Michael Jackson wrote&composed or co-wrote&co-composed more than 100 RELEASED songs but you are ignorant full of hatred so you don’t know that.

You said “A singer can not make a career without musicians!”
I repeat Michael Jackson IS A MUSICIAN. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, musician is : A COMPOSER, conductor, or PERFORMER of music.
So composers and singers are also musicians and you are again ignorant because it is obvious that for you musician is only a instrumentalist! BTW did you ever heard for “a capella” singing? Also musician-instrumentalist CAN NOT make career without musician-COMPOSER(s) so…

Jay-Z | 3/30/2009, 3:35 pm EST

To Kikuchiyo:

The problem it’s you:

For example, “Jam” is a songs composed by rene moore, bruce swedien, michael jackson and teddy riley…but you said:

“It’s a Michael Jackson’song”

Excuse me but it’s exactly like a person said…”Jam” is a song composed by bruce swedien.

You are just a fan and like all the fan you doing the “cult of personality” with your idol.

But you can’t contest the truth.

If you read the credit on the 26 albums of Michael Jackson, he composed 29 songs between 1969-2009.

Madonna | 3/30/2009, 4:12 pm EST

February 1976 (6 years after the break-up of the Beatles).

“At the start of the month, Bill Sargent, a Los Angeles pop promoter, offers The Beatles a guaranteed $50 million to perform one reunion concert, which will be televised on closed circuit television throughout the world. His basic plans are laid out as follows:

1. All four Beatles will perform live at any location of their choice, anywhere in the world, and that they may perform individually but they must play together for a minimum of at least 20 minutes.

2. Bill Sargent will retain all rights and all interests in the show in all media in perpetuity. He estimates that the cost of putting on the concert will be about $68,000,000 but, by charging $50 a seat at all cinemas showing the closed circuit broadcast, he believes he can gross approximately $150,000,000 in one single night. First reports suggest that The Beatles are keen on the idea, although there are complications that stand in their way. Sargent reveals that he has met with lawyer David Braun, who represents George, and that John is “keen on the idea”, having suggested a reunion some weeks before the news of Sargent’s offer broke.”

The Beatles refused!

$50 million in 1976 = $187 million in 2008.

7 months after : 20 september 1976

“Sid Bernstein – a promoter for the early Beatle tours in America – publicly offers the Beatles $230 million dollars if they would re-unite to do a concert for charity. John, Paul, George and Ringo turn down the offer.”

$230 million dollars in 1976 = $863 million dollars in 2008.

Kikuchiyo | 3/30/2009, 5:21 pm EST

To Jay-Z

Hey man what are you talking about?!?!
I am Michael Jackson’s fan but I am writing THE COMPLETE TRUTH and you are writing (again) LIES because you are ignorant, full of hatred. I REPEAT I wrote in my FIRST comment here (see post 3/18/2009, 12:46 am EST):
“On Dangerous there is 14 songs. 12 of them has Jackson’s signiture (8 of them are collaboration). Biggest hit from that album was “Black or White” and that is HIS song.”

….and that was response to Rob J. who didn’t MENTIONED Jackson’s collaborations. So I repeat I said that 8 songs are COLLABORATIONS. If you don’t know, one of those 8 collaborations is song “Jam”. So I repeat I specifically said that 12 songs on Dangerous has Jackson’s signiture – 8 are collaborations and 4 are completely Jackson’s songs. THAT IS COMPLETE TRUTH. You only mentioned 4 songs and NOTHING else?!?!?! Later, Prince again didn’t mentioned any Jackson’s collaboration and I corrected him because he didn’t tell complete truth. If you are talking about Jackson’s songs you also must say SOMETHING about his collaborations. Michael Jackson won many awards for songs as co-author and you completely IGNORE those songs only because you don’t like Jackson or you have some problems!? MJ get money (royalties) as a co-author for all collaborations and you don’t wanna mention those songs?! As I said before using your counting method John Lennon in The Beatles wrote 0 songs and Paul McCartney also wrote 0 songs in The Beatles. For you that is THE TRUTH. LOL

You said “If you read the credit on the 26 albums of Michael Jackson, he composed 29 songs between 1969-2009.”
LOL again. I have all those albums and many more you don’t count here for some reason (?!?!) and Michael Jackson didn’t wrote 29 songs. You are LYING or you have some mental problems. In my PREVIOUS comment I mentioned for example 11 more RELEASED songs written and composed COMPLETELY by Michael Jackson and you don’t COUNT that?!?! Man you are realy obssesed with hatred of Michael Jackson. BTW for your information there are even more RELEASED songs written & composed completely by Michael Jackson.

You also mentioned album “2300 Jackson Street” from 1989. That is The Jacksons’ album BUT without Michael. He only appeared as guest on one song (”2300 Jackson Street”) with complete family minus LaToya. So that song also include Janet, Rebbie and 5 Michael’s brothers but on that album The Jacksons are only Jermaine, Jackie, Randy, and Tito.

Jay-Z | 3/30/2009, 6:52 pm EST

I don’t understand why you talking about the Beatles(???)
But for information, the Beatles has composed 251 songs between 1962-1970.

Kikuchiyo | 3/31/2009, 2:12 am EST

I am talking about The Beatles’ songs just to show you that your ignorant counting method is crap.
“The Beatles” didn’t composed songs. The Beatles is name of group and songs were wtitten by REAL people – by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr (as Starkey)… The Beatles also recorded many cover version songs written and composed by other people like Chuck Berry etc.
Paul McCartney and John Lennon wrote majority of The Beatles’ songs but with using your counting method – John Lennon wasn’t songwriter or composer in The Beatles because, remember, you don’t count collaborations as songwriting. I repeat ALL Lennon’s songs in The Beatles are credited to Lennon/McCartney. Using your “great” ignorant counting method if for example Michael Jackson wrote only 4 song on Dangerous than John Lennon wrote 0 songs in The Beatles.

Kikuchiyo | 3/31/2009, 2:24 am EST

Also, Jay-Z when & where did I said that singer don’t need instrumentalists, songwriters, composers?!?!
Of course that singer need first of all, musician-COMPOSER and then musician-INSTRUMENTALIST etc.
I only made a remark on your comment “A singer can not make a career without musician” becuase for you musician is ONLY instrumentalist and that is WRONG by definition. I repeat according to Merriam-Webster dictionary or any other english dictionary, musician is : A COMPOSER, conductor, or PERFORMER of music. Michael is composer and performer. FYI singer performs music with voice. For example Elvis Presley was a great musician. Great Bob Dylan said that Elvis Presley’s voice is his instrument.

Of course that Michael Jackson needs instrumentalists for performing & recording but in music all starts with musician-COMPOSER. Without musical composition and songs instrumentalist(s) and singer(s) don’t exist. EOD

Jay-Z | 3/31/2009, 4:08 am EST

In the world what’s the most covered songs during the twentieth century?

It’s the songs of the Beatles.
(251 songs composed between 1962-1970)

Not the songs of Lennon or McCartney or harrison or Starr

But after 1970, how many songs composed by this 4 guys

seriously i do not know exactly but if you count only 10 songs per albums:

John Lennon ~~70 songs
Paul McCartney ~~ 200 songs
Harrison ~~ 100 songs
Ringo Starr ~~ (I’m so tired for search)
Michael Jackson = 29 songs

Jessamine | 4/16/2009, 5:08 pm EST

Michael Jackson is a human being, a beautiful one. Misunderstood perhaps.

unknown | 5/12/2009, 9:33 pm EST

Michael Jackson owns the beatles catalogue and that pissed off many beatles fans who were once followers of MJ as well. They know MJ well and they are closet MJ fans. But why? because MJ is BLACK and they said he stole the white legacy, beatles catalogue but for $47million

Michael Jackson fu*ked elvis presley’s daughter and that pissed off many whites who see elvis presley as their god, sort of. But why are they pissed off? well, because MJ is BLACK and a much much better entertainer than ep could ever be.
Pls: MJ wrote hits such as Billie Jean, Beat it, Black or white, Heal the world, Earth song, They dont care about us and so on on his own. Talentless ep wrote none of his songs.

Michael Jackson sold out 50 shows after all he had been through and this pissed off fans of the 80s stars and “legendary” bands. Why?
Because they know very well their idols could never achieved what MJ has achieved.

filth | 6/5/2009, 6:33 pm EST

you guys just jealous cause he’s making a lot of money from this tour. It doesn’t change the fact that he’s loved by many fans. Being successful especially on his level…not easy.

MotTheWot | 6/26/2009, 10:13 pm EST

I refer to my comment March 18th, “it will take a miracle for him to perform 1 concert let alone 50″ What was everyone thinking? Who let this happen? How did it happen? I feel sad that Michael Jackson is dead, i do not feel sad for the vultures that misguided him into believing he could do this concert tour. He was not the young man who did the moonwalk in 1983!! 26 years ago! He was 51 in August and he had spinal and leg fractures, weighed about 45kg and was in a wheelchair weeks up until his death!! WTF? There was no way possible for him to perform one concert let alone 50 and a follow up World Tour. Heads will deservedly roll for this obscene accessory to murder.

Rahul | 6/27/2009, 7:15 am EST

really he was a greatest Dancer

katherine | 6/29/2009, 2:49 am EST

Michael Jackson may have been talented BUT his obsession with little boys was just plain wrong and inexcusable. He even admitted on tv to sharing his bed with them. King of Pop or not this is unacceptable. Had he been convicted for this crime he may have received the psychological help he so desperately needed. I do hope he can rest in peace now.

Ali | 7/2/2009, 9:13 am EST

All the haters should take a look in the mirror they are just jealous that their mama did not make them gifted. MJ is the king of Pop.

R.bird | 7/6/2009, 10:53 am EST

Why don’t you keep your hateful comments to your self Ali. M.J. has not been barred yet. You must be a M.J hater. Just shut the F up. M.J gave his life to us. And he strive for World Peace. You need to look at your ugly self in the mirror and see the hate that comes out. I reject your comment. Micheal RIP I love you

Travis Shiranai | 7/23/2009, 11:02 pm EST

What is with the comment by ‘unknown’ concerning racism towards Micheal Jackson? It seems more like a racist comment towards white people then one concerning black racism to me. Why can’t people see that these things go both ways?
Black and White is one of my favourite songs by Jackson, because it showed how loving and wonderful Jackson was.
By the way, people didn’t stop loving him because of his color, it was purely because his first false child molesting accusation by a greedy, jealous father. Also, it was because of his insanity, and the fact he HELD A CHILD OUT A WINDOW. Not because of his color.
Honestly, it seems like some of you people forget what ‘common sense’ even is. Where did you leave your brains?
