Chris Cornell Quotes Scripture, Responds to Trent Reznor’s Twitter Slam

Following Trent Reznor’s Twittering that Chris Cornell’s new album Scream was like “that feeling you get when somebody embarrasses themselves so badly YOU feel uncomfortable,” Cornell took to his own Twitter to respond to Reznor’s diss. “What do you think Jesus would twitter,” Cornell asks. ” ‘Let he who is without sin cast the first stone’ or ‘Has anyone seen Judas? He was here a minute ago.’ ”

So in summary, Cornell maybe called Reznor a stone caster and “Judas,” perhaps for slamming a fellow member of the ’90s alternative rock fraternity. Or maybe he wasn’t talking to Reznor at all. Cornell’s Twitter is filled with a bunch of new age mumbo jumbo, like his tweet this morning that read “Sometimes in the morning I look out across the day, and I see the fist fight between the wind pushing me back and the sun calling my name” and, from February 5th, “I just ate shrimp.” If he really wanted to hit Reznor where it hurt, he could’ve Twittered “The Fragile should’ve been only one disc!” or “I downloaded Ghosts I-IV for free off Bit Torrent!” Instead Cornell took some confusing biblical high road.

Incidentally, Reznor wasn’t alone in his hating on Scream. Former NIN keyboardist Alessandro Cortini tweeted about Cornell’s newest album around the same time as Reznor. “Chris Cornell + Timbaland = depression,” was Cortini’s first post, followed by “Once again, please somebody erase this nightmare that is Chris Cornell’s new album” and “I don’t know why I am listening to it. I am so bummed right now! Where’s Soundgarden?” Speaking to Rolling Stone about the Timbaland-produced Scream, Cornell said, “Maybe I’m an optimist or just an idiot but I really think the fans will come around to the concept.” We’ll have much more with Cornell in our next issue, out next week, so keep an eye out.

Both Reznor and Cornell are irrelevant.

Jere | 3/13/2009, 3:21 pm EST

Ah, but Reznor has been pointing the way for true independence from labels (at least, for established tech-savvy artists), which makes his significantly more relevant than Cornell. (plus Year Zero and The Slip were both pretty good)

Cornell, on the other hand, has managed to both do a lot AND nothing since the end of Soundgarden.

thezero | 3/13/2009, 3:58 pm EST

rock stars… can’t these people wait til they run in to each other and tell each other in person how they feel about each other’s work?.. unprofessional…

CODYT | 3/13/2009, 4:11 pm EST

I actually find Scream to be quite refreshing. I get that it’s really different and typical but it’s more interesting than anything Cornell has done in the last ten years.

George | 3/13/2009, 4:13 pm EST

Reznor is a prick. At least Cornell is trying something different. I’m sure he could cash in on a Soundgarden reunion or something but instead he’s trying something different. So if this album tanks, it’s not a huge deal. Reznor keeps putting out the same crap every few years.

twi | 3/13/2009, 4:33 pm EST

bahahahaha. Get owned Chris. Can we haz Soundgarden nao pl0x?

Anonymous | 3/13/2009, 4:53 pm EST

Trent Reznor… Chris Cornell…

With these two dolts, they should change the name to ‘Twatter’.

taniasue | 3/13/2009, 4:58 pm EST

Trent Reznor is NOT irrelevant, and his music sounds different every time….the problem is we grew to Love Chris in Soundgarden and his later music. His new song(s) sound like everything else Timberland has touched….he went to far left and not enough right. He didn’t just “try something new” he left all his true fan base going wtf. We could listen to Justin if we wanted to her Scream

levifig | 3/13/2009, 5:01 pm EST

Can someone help Cornell come back to his senses and drop Timbaland???

No offense to Timbaland, but we want our ROCK back! “Carry On” was a pretty good album…

:(

Mike | 3/13/2009, 5:35 pm EST

I can’t say I quite know what to think about Cornell, who followed up his departure with a pretty tuneless solo album and now this (I liked Euphoria Morning quite a bit).

But I will say that it seems kind of unfair to lay all this on him while no one is calling out Timbaland. Seems like he should share a lot of the blame here.

Reznor is not irrelevent. He has been very active in music for the past 4 years. Still has poupular as ever. Chris is selling out. Scream is not the worst thing I have heard in a while, but it is nothing special.

SoWhat | 3/13/2009, 7:07 pm EST

I’m with you George. Give the man a break; he’s not producing music for the acne set anymore. Maybe he wants to try something different? I think “Scream” is really interesting, though I LOVE his work with Audioslave and Soundgarden. I admire his courage. He knew he’d get flack for this.

Axl Rose | 3/13/2009, 7:24 pm EST

Will Rock musicians PLEASE stop collaborating, and/or working with hip hop artists. I’m begging you

WTF Chris? | 3/13/2009, 7:27 pm EST

Chris Cornell is my all time favorite vocalist and musician. With that being said, Trent Reznor is right on the money. It’s like Chris has lost his edge. This is NOT something new and different, this is absolute trash. I thought that “Be Yourself” was as commercial as he would ever get, but it’s almost like he’s not even trying anymore. Some of his lyrics from the Soundgarden days are poetic and innovative. Scream is just lazy and uninspiring. Im all for trying new things, but this album is crapping on your legacy. Why not delve into Blues, R&B, classical, anything else!? If I had a time machine and played Scream for a 30 year old Chris Cornell, he would kill himself.

Roxanne | 3/13/2009, 8:07 pm EST

Give Chris a break. Hes just trying something new. He’ll probably suprise us all with something great. After all he is the arcitect of Grunge. He still has that powerful voice. Did you watch the interview w/ him and Timberland(whatever his name is, doesnt matter) T wanted to know if Chris could sing anything-what a joke!

Right On | 3/13/2009, 8:13 pm EST

Dude, Cornell sounds good. I really like this direction. Very chill and why the fuck not? I don’t know if Reznor drinks, but he should listen to the album with a glass of bourbon and relax. Both of these guys rock, – Trent you know how crazy this biz is, give the dude a break.

timbaland | 3/13/2009, 8:22 pm EST

timbaland is the future of rock n roll LOL

Mdubb | 3/13/2009, 10:32 pm EST

“Long Gone” is the best song Chris Cornell has ever written. Yes, I love Soundgarden….Audioslave was mediocre at best.

This is his best solo album.

noname | 3/13/2009, 10:34 pm EST

What Nine Inch Nails twittered is un-professional (as previously stated) immature, and shows a boated ego. Since Trent is leaving NIN behind after this tour, get a pin and prick your fat head to let the hot air out. You’re not all that, smartass.

Anonymous | 3/13/2009, 10:45 pm EST

Trent’s a bonehead to make a crack like that. What if another musician slammed NINs drummer, Ilan Rubin, who has an album he’s trying to independently sell. I’m a music twitter follower for honest critique, not baby games and Trent’s ‘Don’t kill the messenger’ as if this is really funny. Chris is trying, dude, leave him alone. And Ilan’s music? Trent, don’t make me LOL you prick.

Gman | 3/13/2009, 10:46 pm EST

Downloaded the new album and I can see why some don’t like it. To be honest it is way different than anything he’s done before but his voice is one of the purest voices in rock and roll. I love his sound and after giving the album a few listens I’m hooked. It’s just my opinion but I love it.

Anonymous | 3/13/2009, 10:49 pm EST

Chris has a family to support unlike Trent. Let the public decide what we like, we don’t need jerks like you slamming good, decent people. Chris has the right to try to achieve going solo, he doesn’t have a huge fan base and he’s not a young kid. You should be ashamed and your idiotic twitter about Chris deleted.

Daniel | 3/13/2009, 11:07 pm EST

Just wow. Is this what Nine Inch Nails resorts to? Slamming another musician publically? Whether his music is good or bad is something you should just shut up about. Good luck getting your foot out of your disrespectful mouth. I’ve read NIN is going on hiatus after this tour. Fine. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. And by the way, try, TRY to write something relevant because your lyrics are drivel. Chris is a gentlemen, you’re a pig.

Anonymous | 3/13/2009, 11:16 pm EST

@George: I agree, Reznor is a prick. Is this what he does to get followers on Twitter? How about making good music then maybe I’ll go see a show. His music has been crap for a loooooong time, always having the same fanbase. At 43 or so you’d think he’s be changing musically but it’s the same garbage over and over and over and

losangeles | 3/13/2009, 11:58 pm EST

A body slam for Chris from the pumped up ego of Nine Inch Nails and opening a pandora’s box of artists grabbing each other’s b****. Aren’t you proud!!! Now other artists will have the chance AND opportunity to slam Justin, Ilan, Alessandro and Josh for anything new they might try. Way to go fool.

Anonymous | 3/14/2009, 12:06 am EST

Trent Rocks!!! I do think he needs to shut up once in a while. He is great at music, but he should not talk so much trash. With Teeth sucked. I am a huge nin fan, but he needs to chill.

Ken | 3/14/2009, 12:07 am EST

there’s a reason for music critics, an artist still has some semblance of a career and a life.

no musician wants to be linked with a douchebag comment on twitter where tens of thousands read it. He’s dug a hole with his acidic remarks but this is too personal. Nine Inch Nails can dish it out but I wonder how well he takes it. Not too well I think. Immature for a 40 something troll because that’s what he did.

Anonymous | 3/14/2009, 2:35 am EST

Trent Reznor is a cranky old bitch isn’t he!!!!!!!!! Maybe he needs to get a life!

widgeting | 3/14/2009, 3:30 am EST

Chris has quite a singing range but Trent screams most of the time. And he’s mocking Cornell’s latest work? I always look for fresh music and listen to bands promoted by bigger bands. The ones Trent chooses makes my ears bleed so I’ll chalk up his twit as a bad joke. It’s a joke right?

ZenLunatic | 3/14/2009, 8:03 am EST

Cornell can sing but he hasn’t done shit since Soundgarden, Audioslave was a huge disappointment and so is his solo stuff. To try and compare Chris Cornell to Trent Reznor is silly, they aren’t in the same league, Reznor IS NIN, and has continuously made fantastic records for two decades. Cornell should do himself a favor, reunite Soundgarden, and get Reznor to produce it.

Anonymous | 3/14/2009, 9:31 am EST

Trent Reznor said his personal opinion, and now you are all saying your personal opinions. Everyone here is either bitching about Reznor, or bitching about Cornell. So…. YOU’RE ALL AS BAD AS HE IS. Good for you, I hope you hypocrites feel proud of yourselves.

nagboy92 | 3/14/2009, 10:33 am EST

I’ve heard some of this new Chris Cornell album. It was okay but I agree It went too far into Pop music. What he needs to do is reunite with Soundgarden and record an album with them. Too show that he’s still got it. Chris is a talented guy, He just need better material.

Anonymous | 3/14/2009, 10:43 am EST

Hasn’t Trent gotten into worst things…like saying on tv “I don’t have to tell you Limb Bizkit sucks, you know it, I know it, everybody knows that” Ha! ha!…Artists tend to over-react…I think he’s entitled to his opinion, though I personally respect Mr Cornell…but yeah, he could have been more subtle on that one

Jennifer | 3/14/2009, 11:11 am EST

How did poor Ilan get thrown into this. Just because he’s in NiN? Reznor and Cornell can go at it, but leave innocent bystanders out of it. And don’t get me started on Ilan’s solo album, because it’s mint.

Jim | 3/14/2009, 11:15 am EST

With due respect to both artists, Cornell’s new disc is a walking embarrassment. The guy is one of the great rock singers of his generation, and for him to completely and totally sell out like this is shocking to say the least. Atrocious. An abomination if ever there could be one. That being said, Trent is in no position to rip someone elses’ music for not being up to par. The Downward Spiral was the last(and only) truly great thing he came up with.

Chris…if you needed the money that badly, I’d have been willing to break you off a check just to leave you with a little bit of pride, my man. Timbaland? Y-I-K-E-S

laughin | 3/14/2009, 11:32 am EST

Chris – if the choice is optimist or idiot – I’m going with idiot after listening to Scream. I like you but I’m not coming around to that crap.

I’m a fan of Chris’s past music and not so much of Trent’s – but I find Trent’s twitter refreshing because he said what basically millions of people were thinking.

What would Jesus twitter?
Maybe “Chris your wasting the talent Dad gave you – repent”

plax17 | 3/14/2009, 12:34 pm EST

I miss Chris Cornell in Soundgarden, Audioslave. And I don’t like new stuff, but Trent should lay back-not his business.

LoudLove | 3/14/2009, 2:36 pm EST

I love Chris Cornell and was more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but after listening to this junk I’m re-thinking my entire stance on Chris Cornell. This CD is legacy destroying stuff! Just awful…

Anonymous | 3/14/2009, 3:12 pm EST

I don’t think Trent expected the remark to be so publicly exposed.

This was just Trent expressing his opinion, to the very small group of subscribers of his Twitter feed. Sure, Twitter is ‘public’, but its not like millions of people read it.

I’m sure he didn’t realize at the time, that Rolling Stone, and others, would shine a bright spotlight on his comments that were originally meant to only be read by a small handful of people.

Now that I’ve said that, I think Trent is absolutely right on the money, about Chris and his sellout direction.

McWoods2 | 3/14/2009, 9:36 pm EST

After reading this article, without ever hearing any of Cornell’s new songs, I was eager to hear, and accept his new sound. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical after I reading that “Timbaland” had produced the album. I’m sure some of the “grunge” greats, such as Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain are rolling over in their graves. Yet still I’m not one to stick to a particular genre, so I sympathized with Cornell for taking a new direction and experimenting with music, because thats what musicians do, , experiment, music wouldn’t be so great today if they didn’t.
I had all this in mind until I actually went to YouTube to watch one of the albums video “Scream”. After seeing and hearing Chris Cornell’s new venture I have to admit I do not condone what he is doing to his name and his legacy. I know that anyone who really jammed out to Soundgardern wouldn’t be able to listen to even half of that song before cringing and asking themselves “Why?”. It is so far from everything we have come to know and love that is Chris Cornell and the alternative music scene. Cornell has strayed so far from Soundgarden and Audioslave it Trent Reznor is entitled to bash Cornell’s “embarrassing” mistake, I would say the same. I do however still have so much respect for Chris Cornell and all of his accomplishments, but I feel like he has gone too far. It is almost as if music like all animals is going through an awkward stage of evolution. “Scream” is an ugly mutation the beginning of a new appendage in the musical world, who knows whether it will fall prey to a better, stronger adaptation or morph into a new standard of what is good music. Personally I believe it will crash and burn, but there are many different people, with many different tastes for all we know, someone who tunes into the latest hip hop or pop tunes.

Eddie | 3/15/2009, 12:07 am EST

I completely support Trent Reznor ending his music career to devote himself to being a music critic. Next up…his review of the latest Pussycat Dolls record!

Joe Kane | 3/15/2009, 5:05 am EST

I have to say, I am very, very disappointed in the response to Chris’s new album. I went out and bought it, and I love it. I was a huge fan of Soundgarden, and even thought Audioslave didn’t do as well as everybody had hoped that it would, they still had some decent stuff. And even though Chris’s solo career hasn’t turned out any huge hits, neither has almost any other person’s solo music. Just because somebody became popular for playing music one way, that doesn’t mean they should be condemned for trying something new. Chris is an amazing musician, his new cd absolutely rocks, and i can’t wait until people take their heads out of their behinds and realize that this new direction is incredible!

thedude | 3/15/2009, 11:09 am EST

Its bad enough we are stuck with hip hop and rap after we all thought it would be a fad. unfortunatly it is here to stay. So like many I choose to ignore it. But how can you ignore Chris Cornells new album. Timbaland stick to your pop tarts and thugs for your “beats” we dont need them!

viktor | 3/15/2009, 2:24 pm EST

“twittering” a neg review? reznor you used to be cool with ur “fuck you aesthetic” and now you’re just another tool. the album is shit though, but have some fucking class and let other artists do their own thing, who really cares anyway?

i still don’t know what twittering exactly is, i’m guessing another way to dumb down our already stupid country.

jsg | 3/15/2009, 6:11 pm EST

Both of these guys suck. Reznor ran out of ideas after “Downward Spiral” and Cornell has been a joke since Soundgarden broke up. His new album is atrocious.
Age has nothing to do with it. Pearl Jam is still good, so are U2, REM made a comeback.
Reznor and Cornell just werent that good.
And Reznor can’t criticize people for embarassing themselves. All you have to do is look up NIN and “Dance Party USA’ on youtube and his cynical credentials are gone.

Watching simpsons | 3/15/2009, 11:15 pm EST

riba | 3/15/2009, 11:34 pm EST

Hey Trent was just expressing his opinion, which mind you many people im sure hold the same opinion as Trent, so who gives a shit, im sure other 90s music legends think the bloody same, the cd is a souless joke fuck with try hard black wanabe songs like “this lil bitch aint a part of me”.. WTF please Chris go back to writing some true lyrics not crap for the useless masses of miley cyrus fans that think by using word “bitch” is cool, and therefore will buy ur records.

exc1t3r | 3/16/2009, 6:42 am EST

the only thing i can say is what was written in the RS review for “Scream”: “…a strange mutation that could only have been born this decade…”. i [and i think it goes for all CC fans "us"] can only hope.

Mac | 3/16/2009, 9:31 am EST

Put me in the camp with the minority. I didn’t like the album much on the first listen but as I gave it a 3rd and 4th try it really started to grow on me. There are maybe 2-3 songs that I’ll consider “duds” but the rest of the album really has some swagger to it.

I’m tired of hearing the term “sold out” in regards to Chris. Just because he wants to push his art in a different direction and work with another great mind in Timbaland, how is that “Selling Out.” Its experimenting. Its growing.

People need to realize that with any great artist the change and morph into new musicians with new sounds. If this one isn’t for you oh well. Don’t bash the man for having the balls to try something new.

A-Train | 3/16/2009, 10:00 am EST

Huge fan of Cornell’s new album. I was really put off by the snip-its I listened to online, but after hearing the record as a whole, I really think it’s brilliant. Can’t stop listening to it.

bitphonic | 3/16/2009, 10:36 am EST

I think it is funny that there are some people here who in one breath will criticize Cornell’s album, then in the next say Reznor should shut his mouth. Am I missing something? Is it somehow more appropriate for you to voice your opinion on something because you aren’t famous?

Chris is the best singer on the planet, so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and definitely plan to buy his new disc. I have listened to some tidbits online and it certainly doesn’t seem as bad as everyone is saying….

then again, I’m the one who’s always saying “I’d buy a Chris Cornell album of nursery rhymes” :)

judas O | 3/16/2009, 10:27 pm EST

WHY TRENT??? Why put two sides against each other? Trent’s comments are just a little off-base. He could have said that it “missed the mark” but the whole ‘embarrassing’ comment was out of line. He was very unprofessional. I love them both and have listened to them both for over 10 years!!! Chris could make a million Soundgarden albums if he wanted to. He’s been doing that since the mid 80’s!! You know what you are getting in to when you get TIMBERLAND on board! DUH! HE’s NOT trying to do the same ol’ thing. TOo bad Trent has been for years now. It’s the same 3 chords and the same angst. Why bother?

basser | 3/16/2009, 10:41 pm EST

Boy, that’s mature – rock stars fighting with each other and dissing each other to the press. Yawn, yawn, and double yawn. Boring.
It’s OK for fans to quibble about their favorite bands, but when rock stars do it – Axl Rose, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, the Ramones, etc., it is foolish and naive. I remember reading Joey Ramone (RIP) burning on The Who (before the band’s 1996 and 2000 tours) for “carrying far too long,” yet, in reality, The Who, from 1966 to 1982, was together fewer years than The Ramones were. Robert Plant also said some unkind remarks to the press about Townshend and Co., but at least The Who would always have Entwistle, when he was alive, in on the action, unlike what Page and Plant did to poor John Paul Jones. Plant ended up opening for The Who on part of their 2002 tour. Ironic, indeed. Trent kind of seems immature for dogging on Cronell’s work. Those guys must have a lot of free time. And idle hands …

poopypants | 3/17/2009, 12:32 pm EST

Kliff | 3/17/2009, 1:57 pm EST

I even thought it was awful that Duran Duran used Timbaland on their latest release but Cornell?!! ugh! isn’t Rock music suffering enough without this type of blasphemous selling-out?

Jenna | 3/17/2009, 7:59 pm EST

Kliff? Why are you and so many people convinced that when Chris Cornell worked with Timbaland that was the point where he sold out? Come on grow up. Isn’t this whole anti-establishment teenage angst thing a little outdated for these men? I doubt if Timbaland was an alternative producer and was goth, indie, b.s. etc nothing would have been said. This is purely a clique in genres thing

yeah nin is irrelevant yet “with teeth” debuted at number one on the billboard in 2005 and had 3 number one singles in different charts in the states while spreading a very influential democratic message. soundgarden was an amazing band and i havent heard his entire new album so i cant really judge it but to act like trent is some sorta satanist is nonsense, he’s the closest thing to “the crow” in mainstream music.

eleveno | 3/24/2009, 6:04 am EST

Reznor can be a moody character. He is notorious for firing his band and getting a new one.
And i seem to remember TR saying something mildly off color about Nirvana back in the day.
I am a NIN fanboy for life. I just take good old Rezno with a grain of salt.

lance | 3/24/2009, 7:55 am EST

Trent Reznor should hang himself and twitter about it to the world while he’s doing so. So we may rejoice

Harris | 3/24/2009, 10:38 am EST

Unlike many of you who responded below I’m 100% on Trent’s side.
I think he’s right about his statement.
What Chris has done with his new junk is pure sellout.
Wait and see in about 5 years and I’m pretty sure Scream is more or less forgotten. :)

night train wreck | 3/26/2009, 9:08 am EST

I love it when people yell “sellout”. Listen people, to quote Scott Ian, “if you sell your songs for a profit, you’ve sold out”.
All artists who sell their music have gone commercial. And thier you go.

VirgoLibra8 | 3/26/2009, 3:45 pm EST

evidently youre not aware that as soon as trent reznor gladly split from interscope he put out an entire new album out for free on his website. i think its cool that cornell wants to experiment but i think a soundgarden reunion is a much wiser idea personally.

brad | 3/27/2009, 12:54 pm EST

I don’t think he was talking – sorry twittering – about Trent at all. I think he was just posing a fairly humorous question about what Jesus would twitter. Stop reading into what isn’t there.

Chris Cornell (to me) is one of the greatest songwriter’s ever to grace Rock n’ Roll. Concerning all the recent uproar over his new album Scream, I would just like to say, that, if Cornell wanted to explore a certain realm of music w/Timberland, and see how it would mold together, than all the more power to him; he is, of course, Chris Cornell. The same Chris Cornell of everyone’s beloved Soundgarden (mine too); the same Chris Cornell of recent Audioslave fame; The same Chris Cornell who is just one of the most amazing singers to hit the mic in the last two decades; slated emcee or the Zeppelin, Superunknown screamer. There is a level of respect any musician should give to another, or any fan should give to a musician, if they, themselves, have played a Chris Cornell song more than once in the last 20-25 years.

His new album Scream, produced by Timberland, is not the greatest album in my opinion, but who the fuck are we to say our cusses and swears that condemn the album to a timberland grave. I read that Trent Renzor was all twitter, trigger happy about his choice words for the album; acting like a school yard boy taunting a fellow classmate. But, seeing how Trent probably has enjoyed a Soundgarden album once or twice in his life, he should not have to resort to thinking his twittering words have any conscious use for any good that go beyond the schoolyard playground. Trent himself has been known to do some things that have been considered more than embarrassing — in the years of NIN. And, those years of addiction— I’m sure —served him a good plate of honesty and humility, but now I’m second guessing that. Twitterbug. But, this is not about Trent, or his Nine Inch Honesty Nails being filed down, but about Chris Cornell, one of the greatest Rock n Roll songwriters ever to grace music.

That being said, I would personally like to express my great admiration for Chris Cornell’s solo album Euphoria Morning. This album—one of my top 10 albums of all time— could not be any better than it already is. The songwriting and lyrics are astonishing to say the least and I have read over lyrics on the CD sleeve more than a few times in my life. So, I guess that means, if Chris Cornell wanted to make an album with Timberland called Scream, who am I say it is embarrassing or bad, at least Chris is taking a shot at something new and exploratory, rather than taking a shot of something, well, not of any good use, or something to be proud of, when going on the record.

Even though Chris Cornell’s new album is not on my radar for likeability, I would encourage him to do an opera next — if he so chooses to do so— since he is, let’s all remember, Chris Cornell.

Signed,

The one who doesn’t Twitter.

(Or sees any actual good use for it—Twitterbug)

Sucking in Seattle | 3/27/2009, 4:41 pm EST

I’m sure Chris is trying just something new. Like Meth or Crack Cocaine, there are something’s you shouldn’t experiment with. This offering is a good example.

msr | 3/28/2009, 11:16 am EST

I don’t like Scream (or anything else Cornell has done) any more than those guys, but NIN sucks worse than anything he’s ever done, and that’s saying something. So they should probably just keep their mouths shut.

Seattle guy | 3/29/2009, 10:14 pm EST

Hey,Mattwong26, you sound like a 15 year old girl with a chrush. Trent’s drug use was legend. Chris’s was secret. Alot of people in Seattle, especially those closest,(like family and friends) saved his sorry ass countless times. The thing I find most amazing about C.C. is that he isn’t serving 30-to-life.

ninfan | 4/2/2009, 6:11 pm EST

as a devout NIN fan, I was actually a little upset with Trent after I thought about the way he expressed his opinion. Like someone said above, his ego is bursting at the seams. Hes great, but could have been a little more respectful. Twitter :: rolls eyes ::

Black Hole Sun | 4/5/2009, 1:45 am EST

I’m pretty shocked that such pettiness is coming out of these guys. I’d expect this from Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, who are teenage girls and aren’t expected to be terribly smart for their age. 40-something-year-olds, however, are a different story. You’re supposed to be wise and mature enough to not resort to this childishness. So what you think Chris Cornell’s new album is crap? Will the world end as a result of that? I don’t think NIN would take it lying down if Chris dissed their work the same way. You’re entitled to not like the record, but twittering about it is lame and stupid, usually a reflection of the twitterer. You’ve sold millions of albums worldwide, you’ve got enough money, fans, critical acclaim and respect to last you a lifetime. So why feel so threatened that you would diss someone like that? Especially if he’s never done anything to you. I thought Trent and his dudes were above this Christina-Britney type of B.S., but I guess I thought wrong.

angel | 4/6/2009, 1:45 pm EST

Seattle guy, now Chris Cornell claims his new wife saved his sorry ass, not people from Seattle. Chris Cornell isn’t in touch with his family and his Seattle’s friends anymore. Scream and his new direction are horrible. Trent’s right.

Avacado | 4/6/2009, 1:55 pm EST

I think it’s great Chris is trying new stuff. NIN has been doing the SAME music forevA. Change it up. Robert Plant did it like it or not. It doesn’t mean either of them will STAY in this style. Don’t worry, both with definitely ROCK AGAINE. And BTW at Chris’ concert I just went to, he rocked it out MORE than the Scream Album, Black Hole Sun and all!

andy | 4/6/2009, 2:03 pm EST

Yes Avacado, Chris still rocks only because he’s rather clever to play his old stuff at his concerts

Chris | 4/7/2009, 5:37 am EST

Rest in peace,Trent

Avacado | 4/7/2009, 1:28 pm EST

You know what. No matter what musical direction Chris decides to take, it’s gonna be amazing. I even heard him sing the Ave Maria one Christmas and was blown away! His voice is exceptional and his vocal range limitless. He CAN sing anything and it’s always PERFECT. I think he’s way more than just a rock singer.

Jodan | 5/23/2009, 10:46 am EST

Hold on!!! To NIN’s defence Trent has done some ground-breaking things lately like releasing his albums on multi-track or giving his latest album out for free- As far as creativity is concerned there is no comparison. Timbaland has said in interviews that one of his favorite producers is Trent Reznor. Trent writes and produces all of his own shit. Furthermore NIN is independent on there own label and the most generous fan oriented band out there. p.s. BY THE WAY CHRIS CORNELS ALBUM IS A ABOMINATION!

Hmmm... | 6/2/2009, 1:55 am EST

I don’t really care about Reznor’s criticism of Cornell’s new album in and of itself. It is arguably childish, but he can say whatever he wants–fair enough. Also, Reznor is certainly talented. I will not argue with that. However, if you publicly slam another artist and are being a hypocrite, expect to be called out. That being the case, there are 3 things that can be said to Reznor:
1. Exotic Birds
2. Dance Party USA
3. ROFL

Hmmm... | 6/2/2009, 3:51 am EST

Oh yeah! How could I forget?

4. American Eagle Outfitters in-store music video promotion loop back in 2005: “The Hand that Feeds”

It was being played with the Black-Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani, and Will Smith. Now THAT was embarrassing.

Chriscornellissolame | 6/2/2009, 2:20 pm EST

Poor Chris Cornell. Since Soundgarden he just sucks cock. Awful music, awful lyrics, he should fuckin retire to study his new age interests. Most of the great voices of the 90´s survived but he´s so fucking dead.

abigGOOBER | 6/5/2009, 8:06 pm EST

Cornell needs to give it a rest…this album is an abomination. Trent could have shown a little more respect, but at least he’s telling the truth.

dave | 6/12/2009, 1:23 am EST

Hey mabe you are too. And whatwas your name?

dave | 6/12/2009, 1:28 am EST

Mabe all you idots need to exame your own lives and live it than exame everyone else.

BritneyFANnumberOne | 8/2/2009, 1:58 am EST

This is the kind of album I do LOVE!! CAn’t wait to buy it!

burnikshrapnel | 8/9/2009, 12:26 am EST

Trent Reznor may sound like an asshole but he’s right. Cornell’s “i may be an idiot” statement is clearly just to save face from a massive screwup where it’s too late to do anything but to say ‘oh shit’. experimenting is nice. but just because you want to break new grounds doesn’t mean you have to pimp yourself to what mtv dictates nowadays just to sell records. trent reznor > chris cornell.

Anonymous | 8/9/2009, 5:58 pm EST

trent reznor is balding fatty with a dick nose. you shouldn’t say shit like that about your peers. it just isn’t nice.

thecromathicloop | 9/30/2009, 9:24 pm EST

i`m really a rock fan ,and i think the fragile and euphoria morning even considering are opposites are two of the best goddamn albums of the 90’s and can’t no one has putout albums like those since!!!!!!!!!.

Anonymous | 11/5/2009, 2:14 pm EST
