Michael Jackson Announces Dates for “This Is It!” Run at O2 Arena

Michael Jackson has revealed the dates for his 10-night This Is It! run of concerts at London’s O2 Arena. The King of Pop’s first show is July 8th, and he’ll perform every other night until July 18th (leaving a day’s rest between every show), when he’ll take a four-night break before his next date, July 22nd. After that, only three shows remain: July 24th, 26th and 28th.

The general public onsale is March 13th, and fans who entered the online lottery the day Jackson held his press conference will find out soon whether or not they’ll have the opportunity to purchase tickets beforehand with a pre-sale password. For those in Europe — and super-fans willing to travel — the London shows are a huge deal. “This is it. I just want to say these will be my final show performances in London,” Jackson said during a press conference last Thursday. “I’ll be performing the songs my fans want to hear — this is it. This is really it. This is the final curtain call.” Jackson has not yet announced plans to perform anywhere else.

Why the gap between shows? Rock Daily has several explanations (and theories). First, the O2 already had some shows lined up in July — including a July 11th Ne-Yo gig (a Ne-Yo appearance during one of MJ’s shows wouldn’t be out of the question, or vice-versa). A full-scale stage show is exhausting — just ask Janet Jackson, who nixed most of her Rock Witchu jaunt — so Michael’s people may be factoring in recovery time for the now 50-year-old star. Maybe Jackson has a thing for even numbers (he’s not performing on a single odd date). Perhaps promoters AEG Live are leaving some room in case Jackson decides to extend the run beyond a “This Is It!” 10 gigs.

Regarding the last possibility, if you’re buying tickets for July 28th expecting to see Jackson’s last London show, you might not actually being seeing Jackson’s last London show — Billy Joel fans experienced this phenomenon when his supposed last concert at Shea Stadium became his second-to-last show at Shea (and the final concert wound up featuring Paul McCartney.) Jackson dates as they stand now:

Michael Jackson
July 8 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 10 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 12 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 14 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 16 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 18 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 22 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 24 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 26 – London, England @ O2 Arena
July 28 – London, England @ O2 Arena

Joel’s ‘Last Play At Shea’ was never advertised as a one night only or final show date. And Paul MacCartney’s appearance at the second show was as much of a surprise to Billy Joel as it was to the audience.

what about a new album for his fans all across the world!

Mark | 3/10/2009, 1:24 pm EST

I don’t believe he will ever step on the stage on July 6, 2009. It just isn’t going to happen. You are hiding your heads in the sand.

How much would one of these tickets be expected to sell on ebay?
And what are the chances of every show selling out?

Amrik | 3/10/2009, 3:35 pm EST

MJ will always be known as the king of pop he practically owned the 80’s with hi music and I can safely say that I will be on those ticket lines 1st thing in the morning!!!!!

He was bigger than big, then Michael Jackson released Thriller. It broke some many recording records that you almost need a book to record it. Now it’s 25 years later and we are going to get an updated dose of Thriller from the slightly off throned King of Pop.
It’s not Usher’s fancy footwork that his audience is most impressed by. It’s when Usher rips open his shirt to reveal a finely honed torso (a gesture that has become his trademark) that his mostly female audience go wild.
Justin Timberlake has been compared to Michael Jackson, but if Timberlake keeps at the pace he is at then Michael Jackson’s reign as the “King of Pop” could be in jeopardy.
Whether you love Michael Jackson or hate Michael Jackson, whether you believe the rumors or you don’t, whether you think he’s “Wacko Jacko” or “The King Of Pop,” one thing most people agree on is the fact that he is a great performer.
The Beatles have claimed to be “more popular than Jesus,” but they possessed neither the talent nor the staying power to be more popular than Michael Jackson.
What is so sad is that if Michael Jackson would just put on a paper bag over his face we could all still enjoy his AMAZING singing.

Anonymous | 3/10/2009, 6:10 pm EST

Tickets are 75 British pounds, which is approx. $105 US Dollars.

Starr | 3/10/2009, 6:16 pm EST

I’d love to see Michael and all…but I bet those tickets are ridicoulously priced and I’m terrified of flying over the ocean from St. Louis Missouri to London England…

Jay C | 3/10/2009, 6:18 pm EST

He is music GOD!!!! Period almost 1 billion albums sold… F***K the Beatles, It’s Michael’s world…

john smith | 3/10/2009, 8:10 pm EST

there are loads of sites claiming they will be able to get tickets to this tour – like thisisittour.com – if this is the last tour, its going to be near on impossible!

steve | 3/10/2009, 8:17 pm EST

It amazes me how people can ignore that this man is a pediphile. If anyone has ever studied the subject they would know his words and actions receive his true nature. They never talk of sex but there “Love”. And the brilliant move of having famous children around that verify he dos nothing, but then preys on the vulnerable.Wake up

Otis Mack | 3/10/2009, 8:18 pm EST

I’ve been waiting since late 2001 for
this to happen. I wonder after London there will be U.S. dates.

We will see! Go Michael! Go!

Amanda | 3/10/2009, 8:27 pm EST

Michael Jackson is the best! The King Of Pop is my role model, threw his songs you can hear the pain, hurt, lonely, thankful, happ y and so much more in his songs just by his voice. It is 2009 and i am 14 and i am still listeneing to Michael and the j5!and i am not going to stop!I love it when people ask him where he gets his ideas and he simpley says i get them from the clouds!!Michael Jackson will always be my idol and no matter what people say Michael Jackson/King Of Pop/the best/my idol will always be loved abd praised by many fans like me!!!Dont give up on Michael Jackon! He didnt stop cause he never gave up on his fans,so do the same for him!

RE:

Cartman | 3/10/2009, 1:54 pm EST

I hope that this is his big comeback and that he hits the US before he truly says goodbye

** don’t you wonder exactly what it is that he is saying good bye to? Does a man who would seek to have such a thin nose to the point of disfigurement perhaps be mixed up about his racial roots, a man who seeks POWER not of an “artistic” nature? Performers are not on par with Jesus of Nazareth, unless Jesus knows how to do the Moon Walk… i think perhaps a destitute man seeks a lot of money too?

The final curtain call seems an ominous sort of reason to have a series of concerts in London doesn’t it? A man who owns the cataloge of rights to music that he did not record or lyrics he did not write…

is MJ riding the winds of change…. or revenge ? mooooo

Just a thought or two to ponder.

PEACE comes to all who truly want it..

Amanda | 3/10/2009, 8:35 pm EST

I wish i could go but i cant i have no money!!but all of my support and the wishes for the king of pop!good luck Michael and i hope you wont stop!i know you “Never Can Say Goodbye”IF you do say good bye we all will miss you!!you maysay no one cares then tell me why people are trying their hardest to get the tickets for the king of pop’s concert!!No one can or will be able to hold a candle to MICHAEL JACKSON!!!!!!

MORGAN | 3/10/2009, 9:31 pm EST

I hope very much that he makes to the u.s. anywhere.Ill be there if he does!!!!!He may have a lot of controversy but he is the best.THE BEST!

Anthony | 3/10/2009, 9:58 pm EST

look people…Prince did the same venue-the 02- IN 07 FOR A RECORD BREAKING 21 NIGHTS…and the man did aftershows as well (ofcourse) Prince is 50 too…plus Prince plays guitar, bass, piano, dances, all that and more…Michael just cant keep up…he will live on in song though…but he gonna have to be careful trying to match what the real King-Prince, did and does and will do. For all time.

styles-p | 3/10/2009, 10:07 pm EST

I want to go to this concert so bad.

brunoo | 3/10/2009, 11:35 pm EST

he rocks my world.. simply THE BEST.!! EM-JAY KING OF POP FOR LIFEEEEE

garyb | 3/10/2009, 11:41 pm EST

I am somewhat amused at the suggestion that Michael jackson was, is, or will be more talented or popular than The Beatles ?
Why do you think MJ called Paul in the early 80’s to “make some hits” and then bought the rights to the Beatles.Get your facts right.

Anonymous | 3/11/2009, 2:20 am EST

may you have long life.

Tom | 3/11/2009, 4:46 am EST

Hey steve from 3/10/2009, shut up, nobody gives a damm what you think.

Do you have ANY PROOF whatsoever to back up what you just said? Id wager a guess you have none, as there is none.

So go away, turn off your computer and go back to your sad life and let Michael Jackson fans enjoy the king of pop without people like you out to destroy an innocent man.

Reg | 3/11/2009, 5:14 am EST

This is gonna be good. How many shows will be postponed or outright cancelled because of “exhaustion”? Will he hire Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson’s technical people to get the latest lip syncing technology? How many liens will be filed by those he has used, screwed and stiffed over the years?

Kevin | 3/11/2009, 6:46 am EST

I agree with Steve and besides where have all you rockspider lovers been hiding all these years. What a weirdo.Give the music back to Macca where it truly belongs.

chris | 3/11/2009, 7:23 am EST

I managed to order tickets this morning!!!!!!!!!
These shows are by far the hottest concerts this year and with new shows rumoured due to be announce through August and September (the o2 has an almost blank diary for those months on their site) he will break Prince’s record if they go ahead. Prince has never been able to match mike’s popularoty, record sales or concert sales in the past. I don’t think Mike will be beaten at the O2 either.

James | 3/11/2009, 7:23 am EST

I couldn’t give a F*ck what all you Jackson haters think. I have tickets already and bloody proud of it!

Mambon | 3/11/2009, 7:25 am EST

Steve’s comments just show that he is totally ignorant to the reality of what happened in the court room. Read the court transcripts you moron and get a brain. Don’t believe every misinterpretation, rumour and lie you read.

ginny Australia | 3/11/2009, 8:25 am EST

From Queensland Australia to London for Michael’s first night at O2. I was so Grateful to get tickets. Dont ever ever allow the media & tabloids with their own agenda to do such evil & cloud peoples critical thinking trying to damage Michael as they did to Princess Dianna just because these 2 great people declined to let the media cash in. Read Read study & investigate see the truth. We are fortunate in life to have & have had such kind & giving souls such as MJ & Dianna to make less fortunate lives brighter. I thank them for their selflessness & sacrifice. See you in London Michael. Gin 1958.

No one can deny that he is the GREATEST artist of all time.

And for the media & and his doubters: “don’t speak for the rest of us! Michael has definately the strongest fanbase in the world.

I`m proud to say, I love this talented artist and I can`t wait to see him in spotlight again.

steve | 3/11/2009, 7:05 pm EST

A come back tour after living in a hiding in a country that has a blind eye to Pedophiles.Lets face it he needs the money because of all the out of court settlements.
I bet all of you believe OJ did not kill Nicole also.

Matt (England) | 3/11/2009, 9:13 pm EST

Lets put this into perspective people, and get real!Heres some facts on this “so called” king of pop. I havent got enough time to note them all… Five and a half albums in a 30year solo career, king of pop my ass! HIStory album partly included because only half of it was new material. Blood on the dancefloor album only contained 5 new tracks out of 13, dont count! Add to this numerous “best of” “ultimate” “greatest hits” albums/dvds etc released to forfill his sony contract, its laughable! Great songwriter Michael! Fact: Thriller album (greatest album of all time, supposedly) was written by Quincy Jones & Rob Temperton, apart from Billie Jean & Beat it. Michael was just the front for a “vision”. No new material SINCE 2001, 8 years! He spent 32million dollars and 4 years recording his last effort (Invincible), he recorded 164 tracks for it, which was scaled down to 16, yet he wrote ONLY 3 OF THEM! Even record shop appearances couldnt shift it off the shelves! SHALL I GO ON??? Want more facts??? GREAT SHOWMAN, GREAT STAGE PERFORMER HE WAS! (yes I have seen him live) KING OF POP (composer, producer, songwriter, musician, performer) THE “COMPLETE PACKAGE” HE ISNT! Finally to even try and put him in the same league as Prince is beyond stupidity, and I can prove that fact too….GOOD LUCK MJ….Bet you wont make it past the 4th show. Matt

MJlove | 3/12/2009, 5:03 pm EST

Jackson is the single most over- rated star of all time.
He was dead years ago.
