- Amy Winehouse canceled her April 18th Coachella performance because her recent assault charge prevents her from attaining a work visa, Reuters reports. The situation echoes Winehouse’s 2008 travails, when she was forced to perform on the Grammys via satellite. Coachella loses their second biggest performer on what was already considered a subpar Saturday slate.
- A screenplay written by Tupac Shakur will hit theaters in 2010, Vibe reports. Live 2 Tell, which was to star Tupac, was penned by the rapper during his 1995 prison sentence. The plot revolves around an ex-drug dealer trying to get his life back on track. Afeni Shakur, the rapper’s mother, sold the script to Insomnia Productions, who will start casting in April.
- With a guest spot on CSI:NY already in the can, sources tell Entertainment Weekly that Ashlee Simpson will soon have a TV residency after being cast in the Melrose Place reboot planned for the CW’s fall schedule. According to EW’s Ausiello Files, Simpson will play Violet, “a character whose disarming naiveté masks the calculating, shrewd sex kitten within.”
- “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper Coolio was busted late last week at LAX Airport on suspicion of possession of drugs, Reuters reports. Airport security found Coolio in possession of crack cocaine before he boarded his Southwest Airlines flight on Friday, March 6th.
