Kanye West’s “VH1 Storytellers” Won’t Air Rapper’s Radiohead Diss, Chris Brown Support

If the material edited out of Kanye West’s VH1 Storytellers is any indication, what the rapper has to say promises to be just as entertaining as the performances themselves. Reuters reports that West spent three hours on a Los Angeles soundstage for the performance, airing this Saturday, February 28th, with only 90 minutes of it making it to television. Left on the cutting room floor is West railing against Radiohead, one of his favorite bands, and telling the audience that everyone should give Chris Brown “a break.”

According to Reuters, the VH1 Storytellers filming came five days after West was supposedly snubbed backstage at the Grammys by Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. West has constantly declared his love of Radiohead and especially Yorke’s solo album The Eraser. “I don’t listen to rap in my apartment, I listen to Thom Yorke,” Yeezy posted in November 2008. But the snub perturbed the 808s rapper. “So when he performed at the Grammys, I sat the fuck down,” West said of the band’s “15 Step” with the USC Marching Band at the Grammy ceremony. However, two days before Storytellers took place, Kanye posted on his blog “Oooooh Mr. Yorke… You Are Very Much The End All Be All… Amazing” and embedded a video of Radiohead’s “15 Step” from the Grammys.

As for his comments on Brown, West reportedly told the crowd, “Can’t we give Chris a break? I know I make mistakes in life.” To West’s credit, that comment to the Storytellers crowd came out before there were more damning details regarding the incident between Rihanna and Brown, and well before the photo of a battered Rihanna leaked out. Thus, that comment was edited out before the telecast. But West’s support of Michael Jackson and Michael Phelps, as well as a strange observation about O.J. Simpson. (”What he did, when he did, what he did. Was he not amazing though?”) all will air tomorrow.

Getting to the music, West performed a 14-song set of his greatest hits and 808s & Heartbreak tracks including “Stronger,” “Touch the Sky” and “Amazing.”

Oj? Chris Brown? Michael Jackson? some of the worst mentally damage black men in the industry, I love West but I’m very disapointed, hope he’s not pro violence or domestic abuse.

hokeycoke | 2/27/2009, 12:44 pm EST

kayne west is dumb. good rapper though.

Wait | 2/27/2009, 1:17 pm EST

Haha. This clown is not fit to clean Thom Yorke’s glass eye. Or something pertaining to whatever the hell is going on with Thom’s eye. Either way, suck it Kanye. Thom doesn’t owe you the time of day.

What a POS | 2/27/2009, 2:07 pm EST

Totally unwarranted ego on this guy.

Omri | 2/27/2009, 2:19 pm EST

Very uncool on Thom’s part.

* tina | 2/27/2009, 4:11 pm EST

Why should Thom Yorke talk to Kanye?–you are disrespctful to others–people are disrespectful to you. Kanye West is only a genius in his own mind. His latest album is laughable–if he believes that he embodies music–we are in for a pretty crappy future of music. Cockiness gets you know where–he is basically a rich kid who paid his way into the business. And he has no street cred–so he is insecure and prides himself on being the best. In reality, he his own worst enemy and surrounds himself with actual talentlike Common because he knows deep down that he can’t play ball against the big boys and he is indeed a jokek and marketing tool that some PR agency dreamt up. So Kanye, my advice? stick with your fashion line.

Greendale | 2/27/2009, 4:17 pm EST

I wonder what Yorke did to that puffy-cheeked bitch in order to “diss” him.

um | 2/27/2009, 4:31 pm EST

Kanye paid his way into the industry? Are you serious? Or did he produce consistent number one hits from one of the greatest rappers ever? Hmm….

GK | 2/27/2009, 5:34 pm EST

Kayne needs to stop saying the first thing that comes into his head. I love his music but his ego and his mouth both need to be checked. He needs to seriously shut the f**k up!

Josh | 2/27/2009, 6:19 pm EST

Kanye is such a WHINER!!! I wonder how many people have been unknowingly snubbed by Mr. West throughout his glorious career.

Exhilarate | 2/27/2009, 9:28 pm EST

Kanye, you’re not even worthy of breathing the same air as Thom, you’re such a prick.

Thom | 2/28/2009, 8:03 am EST

There is a fine line between Kanye’s outbursts and Michael Richard’s outbursts. Both are offensive, except Richard’s was trying to be funny. Kanye is just lame.

anon | 2/28/2009, 11:02 am EST

thom quite shy and not really into mainstream music anyway he didnt snub kanye probably had nothing to say to him. Why should thom talk to him anyway is kanye royalty or something?

wrong message | 2/28/2009, 1:21 pm EST

IT is wrong for K. West to say to give a break for Chris Brown. It is sending a wrong message out for young people. Doing drugs is a completely different thing from beating up a woman. Violence should not be tolerated. People make mistakes but Chris Brown has to pay for what he has done. and I am more annoyed that Rhianna is getting back with him if that is true!! That’s another wrong message she is sending to young women.

A lot of celebs say and do silly stuff to get in the news. To get their name in the paper. Its a form of marketing. Whether you get negative attention or positive attention, it is attention and advertising and marketing nonetheless. Kanyes comments have everyone here talking about him, which is the point of the comments. He’s staying fresh and famous that way. Rock On!

BigBoss | 3/1/2009, 8:18 am EST

“Bush doesn’t care about black people.” Remenber that? We all know Kanye speaks his mind, so why is this so shocking? Yeah, Chris Brown beat up his chick and that’s bad, but I’m sick and tired of hearing about it. He’s losing his sponsorships and any record sales he has left, on top of possible jail time, so he’ll get what he deserves. As for Radiohead, who the f*ck cares? Everybody here has favorite artists or groups. How much do you wanna bet that some of them aren’t total d*cks in real life? And even if they were, would you stop listening to their music? And Tina, were you high when you made that comment? Wasn’t it making beats and award-winning albums that got him in the industry. If what you said is true, then he must’ve paid his way into everyone’s ipods and CD collections. And Mike, don’t compare M.J. to O.J. and Chris Brown. He has a reason for being the way he is, Both O.J. and Brown are just plain stupid.

Jungleland2 | 3/1/2009, 3:30 pm EST

This guy, I swear he tries to say the dumbest shit to become controversial….He is a rich boy who is controlled by the media and record companies, he is not even in the same league as Thom Yorke. Now Kanye shouldn’t even be comparing himself to others like Yorke

Anonymous | 3/2/2009, 11:13 am EST

C J | 3/2/2009, 1:33 pm EST

The things kanye says are truthful and heart felt I am a fan for life the music is something special if you like it or not. If everyone lived their life like him not worried about what people think about you the world be a better place.

Chell | 3/2/2009, 2:31 pm EST

I saw the VH1 program and really enjoyed it. No one has walked in his shoes so no one can really say nothing about how he copes with anything in his life. Hopefully he will mature as time goes by. His music is different but nice. Can’t deny that.

kdgnonsgs | 3/2/2009, 2:41 pm EST

if anyone else that was not under the limelight said the things kanye west does than it wouldnt be a big deal whatsoever but just because he is, his word is counted a million times more which is bull, he’s a person with opinions too and who gives a f**k what he supports or does not support

common sense | 3/2/2009, 3:54 pm EST

Kanye is a cocky idiot who really needs to understand the world doesnt revolve around him. he was quoted saying that radiohead is one of the bands that rival his creativeness. hmmm on 808s and heartbreak he didnt even sing without the artificial autotune. This man needs to be shot

miller | 3/2/2009, 4:59 pm EST

Kanye has talent but he’s a jerk. Good for Thom Yorke. In my book Thom Yorke became cooler while Kanye became a whole lot lamer.

If you really dont “appreciate, like,or are respectful to kanye, then why ya makin comments about him? Hes a sensitive guy. He expresses his life, feelings, and eberything through his music. Now i for one RESPECT that guy! God bless his soul! Hes TRUE; unlike those fake rappers who are just about stupid SH*TT!
I watched mr.west on storytellers & i recorded it. He was amazing, despite sum comments. I still look up to him & i always will

Violence is cowardly ESPECIALLY violence against woman! I hope Kanye West reads just how lame he is.

patrick | 3/4/2009, 5:03 pm EST

Thom snubs alot of people, but Kanye deserved it. He’s a jerk to begin with. Nice to see someone snub the egomaniacal Kanye West down to size. Not to mention it’s great he snubbed Miley Cyrus. Thom doesn’t buy into these “fake popstars” And for those that think he snubs all celebrities, he’s friends with Michael Stipe.

Thom | 3/6/2009, 12:16 pm EST

What’s with all these “celebrities” talking publicly about being snubbed. Are they really that insecure, that they have to lash out and diss someone in a public forum? If it happened to me I would just laugh about it or think the person was too busy. Never would take it seriously. But then again my ego is not in the clouds and self esteem in the dirt.

RealityCzech | 3/6/2009, 9:41 pm EST

When is this joker’s 15 minutes up? I can’t wait for two years from now when Radiohead rules the world and Kanye “OK with woman beating” West is playing rib joints with Chris Brown. If I was Thom Yorke I’d tell him to suck it too.

Rich | 3/8/2009, 11:39 am EST

I love Radiohead, but Yorke is a little man and such a dork. Good thing he is a musician… he would be getting thrown in a garbage can otherwise. And everyone says Kanye has the huge ego!

Z3R0Z3R0129 | 3/9/2009, 3:14 am EST

Yeah, ’cause beating the shit out of a woman is totally a mistake and is totally, completely forgivable. Yep, let’s give the poor wifebeating piece of shit a break. Boo hoo, poor millionaire Chris Brown, I feel so bad for him and his felonies. :[

MSyndrome | 3/10/2009, 5:16 pm EST

Haha. | 3/11/2009, 7:48 pm EST

Yeah guys give Chris Brown a break, I mean he only beat the shit out of Rihanna. What is so awful about that? AND O.J? What he did? When he was? What he did? Kanye West is a loser. I’m so glad Radiohead ‘dissed’ him, because he’s the biggest tool in the world its not even funny.

O.j is a murderer, and Kanye West is an idiot to praise him. I hope he is crushed.

FKanye | 3/12/2009, 11:02 pm EST

Wow, I really think Kanye is just trying to throw himself out into the light to get publicitiy or something…Atleast I hope so….
To say give Chris Brown a break for beating the shit out of a WOMAN and then be upset at a band for not meeeting with you….How arragont can this fu*k be?? Dude really needs to check himself and stop with this ego-centric bullsh*t

jaz | 3/13/2009, 4:47 pm EST

Why would that pitiful hack Kanye imagine that Thom cares to meet him or what he did during the grammy performance? Thom has always been notoriously shy with other real musicians, much less with a pompous windbag like Kanye!

BspikeB | 3/13/2009, 5:23 pm EST

Nobody knows what ANY of these people go through. But unfortunately, ego’s often prevail in the media. Kanye obviously likes and admires Yorke, but his ego won’t allow him to be “snubbed”. BFD. Kanye, stick to what your good at…making beats. Otherwise, keep your mouth shut. Nobody cares if you get dissed, and “give Chris Brown a break”?? really??? Just goes to show that Radiohead makes music to make music. Kanye makes music to be famous and thinks people care what he says.

I think you’re the one who doesn’t know shit about music. if you knew anything about it, you’d now a REAL musician cares about the MUSIC rather than how much cash he can throw around, or how many albums he’s sold.

BTW…I’m not saying that Kanye is overrated…I’m saying you overrate him

Shax | 3/14/2009, 3:52 am EST

ed blake | 3/14/2009, 3:21 pm EST

Hey Kayne. How about a speech as you did before, but this time, where you tell us that its clear Barrack Obama doesn’t care about white people. How much time has he spent in KY? So you think its cool and amazing that one black man killed a white woman and got away with it. Nice to see your support for men who beat on women, be they black or white. No one needs a stereotype like you in their defense. You think women are just hoes, and it shows. America, black and white, should show you the door and not let you ‘beat’ then anymore. Angry and white in Washington.

ANON | 3/15/2009, 4:56 am EST

Is it just me or can everyone else tell who is black just by the comment that they leave?

seriously | 3/15/2009, 12:34 pm EST

Some of you need some need proper grammar lessons. I’m sure Kanye said what he said about Chris BEFORE he knew what really happened! As for what he said about OJ, he knows OJ did it. I think he’s just amazed at how he got away with it. I personally wouldn’t call myself a “Kanye Fan.” Every time I’ve seen him on TV or hear about something he’s done, I feel the guy can be a real jackass. But some of you venting your frustrations about currently having a Black president and always relating any situation with a Black celebrity to Obama is annoying and wrong. Get over it. As for Kanye, he’ll keep doing what he’s doing and making a sh*t ton of money doing it. Whether we like it or not.

countrygal | 3/15/2009, 2:52 pm EST

I saw West on TV. Pull up your damn pants you twit. I wouldnt buy your cd if it was free. Hope you flash in the pans all end up in the bucket and you can all be your own girlfriends. Eat shit and die slow.

See you in the bucket – only thing keeping you out is some white dude managing your career. Too bad he cant duct tape your mouth at the same time

Buffy | 3/15/2009, 6:04 pm EST

Celebrities aren’t gods, therefore I don’t see where they get the idea that it’s scandalous for them to get “snubbed”. Kanye is absolutely appalled by being “snubbed”. Normal people get snubbed all the time, by everyone. But when it’s comes to some celebrities, such as Miley and West public rants and tantrums seems the way to go. God, grow up and kill your damn ego.

Seriously is West a grown man or a spoiled five year old brat?

Eynak | 3/15/2009, 8:20 pm EST

Kanye who?

Kcuf Ffo | 3/15/2009, 8:24 pm EST

“George Bush don’t care about the black man! George Bush don’t care about the black man!” I’d tell a “Yo momma!” joke here but it’s probably not appropriate in this situation.

I say Kcuf Ffo to Kanye West.

Who is Kanye West? | 3/15/2009, 8:27 pm EST

Who is this Kanye West character? Is he an extra from the movie “Roots” or was he that bartender on the “Love Boat”? Isaac, yeah that’s the ticket. Now I remember where I saw Kanye West before.

Gavin MacLeod | 3/15/2009, 8:29 pm EST

The “Love Boat”. Yep, Kanye West played the bartender on my ship.

Ted Lange | 3/15/2009, 8:30 pm EST

Gary Coleman | 3/15/2009, 8:32 pm EST

Hey, Lange! No one, and I mean no one, steals my, “What you talkin’ about Willis?” line. DO YOU UNDERSTAND. Kanye is the man, although he ain’t as tough as me, you know, when I play a security guard in real life.

Susan | 3/16/2009, 12:41 pm EST

I really try to hold my tongue about celebrities because it just fuels the fire but with Kanye it’s just too hard to be quiet. He’s just an idiot and everyone knows it!! I can’t wait till the day that he’s right up there on the list of jerks with Michael Jackson and O.J. Simpson. I don’t have long to wait!!!!

i have to agree | 3/16/2009, 6:15 pm EST

I dislike Kanye with a passion… i have to agree with some of the comments comparing him to a little kid.. if it’s not his way, it’s a tantrum… but as far as Chris Brown goes.. no way am I for men beating women.. but ig the woman is going to go back to the guy who beat her, then why is he being punished? what he did was wrong.. But he doesn’t deserve all this punishment if the woman who is causing all of this has forgiven him, no?

ManDeep | 3/16/2009, 7:12 pm EST

It really is a shame what music has become. Radiohead has never been a band that gave a shit about the limelight. Why would this group of introverts care to meet kanye or hannah montana. They dont care to meet anyone like that. It ws simply put that they dont do that. Normal people who are huge fans of artists are snubbed all the time but do they hate the artist for it? No, and if they do why? Kanye needs to lose his sense of entitlement for real. Fine youre famous, you make money and you bite of tpain and daftpunk. I agree he should shut the fuck up and just make beats. I think kanye makes dope beats but he acts like a little bitch ass. I have no respect for him beyond that.

Jodi | 3/18/2009, 1:36 am EST

If these men were white they’d be getting the treatment they deserve. But sadly, since the LA riots everybody’s been favoring blacks. Until we can get off this trend, blacks will get away with murder, molestation and other forms of abuse. And be commended for it while they’re at it, too. Sick. Just sick!

Hmm | 3/22/2009, 5:06 pm EST

I don’t mind Kanye West’s music or music taste ..

but he’s acting just as immature as Miley is about Radiohead not wanting to meet them. I’m not a fan of his egotistical personality.

If he was an understanding fan, he would realize Thom Yorke isn’t one to want to meet people before a performance. Nevermind celebrities, he probably wouldn’t want to talk to anybody, including friends before a show. He’s a quiet, almost neurotic type.

Plus, Radiohead is far more talented than Kanye.

If someone is a fan and wants to meet you, it’s very rude to deny them the opportunity. The fans are what got Radiohead to where they are, so that Thom Yorke guy needs to remember just exactly why he is where he is right now. I hate people who think they are too good for others. If I was Kanye, I would be upset too. Michael Jackson, someone who is more legendary than Thom Yorke, would not have denied ANYONE the opportunity to meet him. Fame really does corrupt people when they think they are all high & mighty.

Kayne West is a joke.Rap and Hip Hop are individuals prancing around on stage with a microphone in their hand and talking bulls–t into the microphone. These clowns are taking your money all the way to the bank.Wake up people !!!!!

“Michael Jackson, someone who is more legendary than Thom Yorke” That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard in a long time Michael Jackson had like one actually good album Radiohead has had 7 and second they are NOTHING alike that alone makes it a ridiculous comparison. Now that Michael Jackson is dead everyone sees him as “Legendary” he barely wrote any of his own music? Put things into perspective.

Kanye is the voice of African American dreamers. He may have an extensive bit of narcissism, but I admire Kanye. He is not afraid to say what’s on his mind, whoever this Thom fellow is, so what, Kanye is still a musical genius. People are always so partial to those who do their job the way it’s supposed to be done, that’s why they hated on Eminem and other great artist who are not afraid to be different or indifferent, should I say.People get a life, Kanye got one, he followed his dream “coulda let the dream killers kill my self esteem or use the arrogance as the steam that power my dreams”(West,2009).

Yeah, Ashley. ‘Whoever this Thom fellow is’. He’s a hell of a lot more talented and relevant than that overhyped narcissist will ever be.

Personally, I’m a fan of Yorke AND Kanye. This is really about the music. Kanye and Yorke both have incredible talents and are great at what they do. People are forgetting that these guys are also human beings just like all of us. Someones personality doesnt have anything to do with the talents that someone has. Kanye and Yorke have OPINIONS just like all of us. If everyone that commented on here was a celebrity, the crazy stuff that has been said would be criticized as well. Respect the music. If you dont like someones opinion, the pay it no mind. Nobody is forcing you to agree or be a part of it. Peace to everyone and the music.

Just about every person on this earth has heard of Michael Jackson and his music, and he was already considered legendary WAAY before he died. “One good album”? What rock have you been living under? “Barely wrote his own music”? Wow, you’ve just proven how incredibly STUPID you are. Not only did Jackson write his own music, but in addition to that he ALSO wrote for other artists. Yeah Radiohead has 7 albums under their belt, and they’re all designed to put you to sleep. If that’s what you consider to be “true music”, fine. But don’t knock others who prefer music that have more life. And this sudden need to kiss Radiohead’s ass only launched because they released their last album for free. When they accomplish what Michael has accomplished (you know, 750 million albums sold worldwide, break every music record known to man), then you can talk. Until then, shut up. How’s that for perspective?

Yeah, that Natalie chick is crazy for making that comment about MJ, do some research before you make a fool of yourself on the net, i feel everyone deserves to have an opinion, but it would help if it was an educated opinion, i love MJ, i love Radiohead, and i love Kanye as well, and you cant take anything from any of them, but MJ is the King of Pop and the greatest entertainer of our time, and you definitely cant take that from him ever, Radiohead is an awesome group, but when it comes to worldwide popularity and revelance, one man stands alone, and you know who that is.

Bryan Heck | 9/13/2009, 10:14 pm EST

relevance not revelance, my mistake.
