  • Neither DMC nor Russell Simmons seem thrilled about the planned Run-DMC biopic. “I don’t really have anything to do with it,” DMC told MTV. “I’m just happy that somebody thinks I’m important enough to do movie about.” Simmons also said that the Run-DMC story has been told twice before (Krush Groove, Tougher Than Leather), and added that the film shouldn’t be made “on a shoestring budget.” However, something the famed rap group is excited about: Their upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • Arkansas police discovered 500 pounds of marijuana on rapper Fabolous’ tour bus, the Boombox reports. Although the rapper was not on board at the time, the two men arrested in the bust told police that the weed belonged to Fab, and that the rapper loaded it onto the bus himself.
  • Britney Spears’ ex-boyfriend, paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, was charged with three felonies for allegedly trying to smash his car into a process server, TMZ reports. A warrant is out for Ghalib’s arrest. The process server was trying to give Ghalib papers on behalf of Britney Spears’ legal team, so Ghalib hit him with his car and kept driving as the server was on the hood. If convicted he faces a possible seven years in jail.
  • Barenaked Ladies lead singer Steven Page has decided to leave the band after 20 years to pursue solo projects. “These guys are my brothers. We’ve grown up together over the past 20 years. I love them and wish them all the best in the future,” Page writes on the BNL Website. The band will continue on without Page, entering the studio in April 2009 to record a new album.

No I think the worst group ever has to be Disney’s roster!

Thanks That Was Fun.
No Regrets
Except maybe one
Ended Too Soon

OK. Just what we need. Another lead singer thinks that he is bigger than the rest of the group to embark on a solo career. He will ultimately come slithering back and a reunion tour will occur that will put the group back in the news and make bundles of money! What a unique strategy!

Ughhh…WHO likes Barnaked Ladies?? WHO?!?! WHO is buying their records???

Jaminers | 2/25/2009, 3:44 pm EST

Paul McCartney said Barenaked Ladies is the best band out there right now … so back off.

You’re saying BNL is worst than Toto, Aldo Nova and Madonna? If that is your opinion, then you hold absolutely no credibility.

Steven Page already did a solo project. This is more than an ego getting out of control.

This forum is just another example of why BNL are underappreciated: ignorance.

getthedoggiedork | 2/26/2009, 12:28 am EST

they probably got rid of him with the stuff he was up to. ruined their last tour when they were suppossed to promote the kids album. (his drug bust) it will be different without him, too bad. can’t put yourself before the band.
p.s. Why hate on a bunch of good guys making a good living making music. Good group!

notacrazymf | 2/26/2009, 4:15 pm EST

BNL are basically good guys trying to do the right thing and keep the band and its members on the right track. When they say the exodus of Steve was mutual, I believe them. It is not another case of a lead singer going off the deep end, or going off to get rich only to come back a year later. Besides, if one member of BNL could actually pull that off, it would be Ed, not Steve… Quit jumping to conclusions.

Too bad about Steve, but hey…lots of relationships don’t last 209 years. They are more of a thinking man’s band so they obviously don’t appeal to everyone

Pfft, they got over Andy leaving the band pretty quickly. Granted they replaced him with Kev and he wasn’t the lead singer, but they’ll get through this just fine and make another great record. I think Ed’s voice is better for the music of 2009 anyways.

I have seen the BNL in Torontos Massey Hall. Later that same year I watched Brian Wilson in the same majestic venue with a member of BNL sitting right behind me…it was weird because just a few months before the Wilson concert I had seats in the hall listening to “Lying in bed like Brian Wilson did”. T’was surreal but with good vibrations. They’re from Scarborough (north of Toronto) where all of my cousins lived, they will be missed, but not forgotten. Hope they reconcile at some point. KL
