Exclusive Taylor Swift Video: “Oh My God, I’m on the Cover of Rolling Stone”

2/20/09, 1:58 pm EST

Taylor Swift should probably be jaded by now. She was the biggest selling artist of 2008, she’s taken her songs to stages around the world, and despite her young age, she’s been pursuing music as a profession for eight years already.

But there are still plenty of steps on this unique journey that get Taylor excited, like a spot on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Taylor’s cover hits newsstands across the U.S. today, but the singer is across the pond right now in the U.K. preparing for the release of her album there on March 9th. So we shipped her a copy of her cover along with a Flip cam, and she was kind enough to let it roll as she checked it out for the first time. Her reaction? Everything you’d expect from a 19-year-old: giddiness, awe and pure excitement.

But what’s the use of being on the cover unless you can show it off? Taylor immediately took her cover down the hall to show her band, and captured that moment for us as well: watch it here!

The story underneath that cover comes courtesy of contributor Vanessa Grigoriadis, who found Taylor to be essentially the young woman you see in these videos — a composed and driven musician who, at her core, is still a wide-eyed teen. “She really is that girl in the tiny little bedroom at home writing songs about the things she hopes and dreams and feels,” Grigoriadis told us in our story-behind-the-story.

For more undiluted Taylor, we pulled together a Q&A from Vanessa’s interview with the country crossover star, plus put together a collection of private snapshots from her family album and a gallery charting her swift rise to superstardom.

mike | 2/20/2009, 6:36 pm EST

RS writers, quit posting on your own board. You’re not fooling anybody.

Anonymous | 2/20/2009, 6:51 pm EST

What happened to Rolling Stone magazine? I know there is a global recession, but that does not mean it’s okay to put pop stars and reality show celebs on and in your magazine. RS has the same credibility as MuchMoreMusic, which airs reality shows most of the day, so your kids don’t miss a single episode! Unbelievable. Today is Kurt Cobain’s birthday, did RS cover that, or perhaps an article about the influence grunge has had, or a hypothetical about “What Kurt would be doing if he was alive today” type thing? Not likely. RS is about as valid as People magazine.

Jack | 2/20/2009, 7:27 pm EST

Kurt Cobian was a LOSER!

TAYLOR SWIFT is better than any music from the 1990’s!

AAA | 2/20/2009, 7:38 pm EST

The last thing we need is more Cobain worship.

Terry | 2/20/2009, 7:40 pm EST

Wow.What a babe!

eightball | 2/20/2009, 8:19 pm EST

for the post on the bottom: you could not be more wrong. She doesn’t hold a god dang candle to the beatles. She can’t sing worth a jack live either.

rs1234 | 2/20/2009, 8:43 pm EST

Stop giving us stories on this awful music, what are you doing Rolling Stone? Do you have any dignity?

Tory | 2/20/2009, 8:47 pm EST

Taylor Swift is the best!!
amazing cover!! :)
she is so beautiful, inside and out
she makes my heart smile!!
i may not be religious but man do i have faith in Taylor Swift
she is the greatest thing to ever walk this planet
and she is so adorable when she opens up the cover! aww

Hey "Jack," You suck! | 2/20/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Jack,
you’re a f***ing IDIOT!!!! Did Taylor Swift start a new generation of music? Did she revolutionize rock? Did taylor swift, a nerdy, kiddish, pop princess committ suicide with a shotgun? HELL NO! Kurt would bitch slap Taylor if he heard her music. BTW, Cobain was born on this day 40 years ago! R.I.P.

taylor's fan | 2/20/2009, 11:01 pm EST

THE SECOND BEST COVER EVER!
THE FIRST ONE IS THE JONAS BROTHERS…
ANYWAYS, WE LOVE YOU TAYOR!!!!!!!

Maddie | 2/20/2009, 11:42 pm EST

This is great! Taylor must be so proud! I know I would be. She looks so edgy on the cover – I like it.

Anonymous | 2/21/2009, 12:08 am EST

Wow…
Come on RS.
Jonas and Taylor Swift?
I hate to say it but it would make more sense to have Lil Wayne on the cover! Even though that guy is just as much of a joke, he has had a much bigger impact on music lately than this chick.

A Queen | 2/21/2009, 12:36 am EST

Kurt Cobain was born 42 years ago… and Taylor Swift is ok… But not worthy of a cover, not at all…

tytydt | 2/21/2009, 12:44 am EST

pretty ridiculous but she seems like a nice girl. at least it’s not miley cyrus. then there might be hell to pay.

SteffM | 2/21/2009, 1:37 am EST

Great cover Taylor! the haters can suck it!

SLM | 2/21/2009, 1:50 am EST

Taylor rocks! the haters can go play in another sandbox.

SLM | 2/21/2009, 1:51 am EST

Taylor rocks! the haters (yup-rock snobs I’ talking to you) can go someplace else.

SLM | 2/21/2009, 1:52 am EST

Taylor does rock! Congrats RS for having the guts to admit it.

Renfield | 2/21/2009, 7:23 am EST

My favorite moments, regardless if I enjoy her music or not, are:

1) Popping the bubble wrap with her right hand before she even opens it. It speaks volumues.

2) The assistant tossing the scissors in order to help with the obscene amount of packaging involved and she being so unaware of it in her excitement.

3) Her silent, yet discriminating, disappointment in the cover and the headline.

George | 2/21/2009, 7:33 am EST

Kurt Cobain. Puke. Who has respect for a heroin junkie that blew his head off. Great Role Model. He can join all the rest of the loser “grunge” groups from Seattle that write such downer lyrics. What a great role model.

At least Taylor Swift is a fresh faced young writer/artist that is just living for the moment. She is turning into a great performer. I see lots of young girls that respect her ands look up to her. She doesn’t drink or smoke and she is really a very nice person.

Hats off to Rolling Stone for featuring her. This almost makes up for the fake George Bush interview. (almost) It’s about time you got back to being a music magazine

mi | 2/21/2009, 8:16 am EST

hey guys stop hatin on her
she is teh best!
I love you taylor keep rocking!!!

rockballs | 2/21/2009, 9:52 am EST

taylor swift on the cover of rolling stone is the equivalent to having a dump without toilet paper.
it makes no sense and it stinks.

I Am So Disapointed | 2/21/2009, 10:13 am EST

I’m so disapointed. Now I’m not a rock purist but Taylor Swift’s not even a country singer. She is pure pop sugar. Now there’s nothing wrong with derrived pop in its place, but the cover of the worlds premier music publication is not the place

GEORGE QUEENS NY | 2/21/2009, 10:28 am EST

Taylor Swift Sucks

TAYLOR = GOD. | 2/21/2009, 10:48 am EST

i cant believe how many jealous people are up here
you guys are lame!
yawn*
get a job

Rock 'n' Roll Mag | 2/21/2009, 2:06 pm EST

RS- What is up with putting all the teen and kiddie stars on your cover? I thought you guys were a pure rock magazine- that’s why I read it, instead here lately, RS is making itself a teen magazine. It’s nothing that pure rock fans want to read about. Country? Get real- but that’s a ways from rock!

Jackson | 2/21/2009, 2:58 pm EST

Taylor Swift STOMPS on wimpy indie rock losers!

Splum | 2/21/2009, 3:18 pm EST

Taylor Swift= My cock in her mouth

= ) | 2/21/2009, 8:14 pm EST

Has rolling stone lost its mind? Princess taylor rules she is this generations beatles? You gotta be kidding me. She hasnt changed music at all and not even close to as good as the beatles.

henry | 2/21/2009, 8:50 pm EST

she definitely has potential, but is really not in a position to be on such a widely respected magazine…then again, she is selling a shitload of records, its only natural for RS to take notice

Aaron | 2/21/2009, 9:38 pm EST

Rolling Stone is a MUSIC magazine. thats what its known for. then it has its subgenres. the rolling stone cover is an honor for ANY musican of ANY music style.

Zig | 2/22/2009, 4:52 am EST

I like Taylor Swift (and congrats on her RS cover) and I like the Beatles too but saying she is this generation’s “Beatles” but “only way better”?I have to disagree with that because they are two, different artists in two, different places of time. The Beatles had each other’s input when it came to writing a song.Taylor is pretty much on her own.I consider Taylor to be more of a country/pop singer.I’m not hating on Taylor.I like her very much but I will say Taylor has way more talent than the Jonas Brothers…Gee,I wonder what those guys are going to be doing in five years?…Asking people “Would you like to super size that for a dollar more?”…

bees | 2/22/2009, 6:03 am EST

She’s precious. Congrats Taylor!

shut-up | 2/22/2009, 6:24 am EST

Ii am not a fan of her music but she seems nice and her album sold huge and was #1 in the U.S. Get over it you hate filled people… And at least she is a good role model for young girls, there aren’t many anymore.

Jodie | 2/22/2009, 7:24 am EST

Taylor, you are such a pretty young girl. What colors and brand makeup do you use, or they use on you. I love your blue eye shadow and all your make up. Please let someone write me to let me know.Love ya. Jodie

Cory | 2/22/2009, 8:43 am EST

Canadian Boy | 2/22/2009, 12:14 pm EST

Wow, if Taylor Swift can grace the cover of RS, surely I can as well! Why not just throw random street performers, and kids in guitar lessons as well?

ludwiz | 2/22/2009, 12:52 pm EST

Amazing

wow | 2/22/2009, 1:06 pm EST

This cover blows so bad.
I thought RS had morals for good musicians.

this is an example

Taylor Swift | 2/22/2009, 2:42 pm EST

Hi, I am so thrilled to be on the cover of Rolling Stone! Thank you so much, also I don’t appreciate the rude comments. Oh and by the way I have a better voice than all of y’all so yeah. Love ya!

Taylor Rocks!!! | 2/22/2009, 3:07 pm EST

for those who hate taylor — shouldn’t you be doing something else other than saying bad words to someone who’s only doing what she loves best?

TAYLOR SWIFT RULES!!!!!!

Saylor Twift | 2/22/2009, 4:24 pm EST

She’s cute, got some talent, slightly above average voice, co-writes some of her hits and seems pretty nice. We’ve seen better and we’ve seen a lot worse. Seems like a nice girl. Deserving of an RS Cover? Only because she’s one of, if not the top selling artist out there and that’s what RS seems to go for. (Mostly.) There are obviously some truly amazing songwriters and performers out there who really deserve recognition but you don’t make the cover unless you’ve already got some. Like it or don’t buy or read it and maybe things will change.

tinybubblezgirl | 2/22/2009, 4:25 pm EST

she is atleast real unlike most people you see out there in the music world. way to go Taylor… Keep being number 1.

B Dylan123 | 2/22/2009, 4:36 pm EST

What happened to you Rolling Stone, this is absolutely pathetic, I though Rolling stone was a relatively legitimate magazine. give us real music, not this garbage, do not sink this low!!!!

c bowen | 2/22/2009, 6:13 pm EST

well, rolling stone has to do what it has to do, when you do not have any rock talent worth a crap to put on your cover, you have to cross over to the music everyone else is listening to, duh!

Anonymous | 2/22/2009, 6:19 pm EST

LIKE I SAID BEFORE, ROLLING STONE HAS TO DO WHAT IT HAS TO DO WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE A ROCK BAND WORTH ANYTHING TO PUT ON YOUR COVER YOU HAVE TO GO OUT THERE AND GET WHO PEOPLE ARE LISTENING TO, DUH!

Anonymous | 2/22/2009, 7:10 pm EST

taylor swift is amazing. none of you know what your talking about.

meagan | 2/22/2009, 7:28 pm EST

I really find it humorous that Taylor Swift says “ya’ll” when she’s from Reading/butfuck Pennsylvania. And the reason why no one liked her in High School was because she walked around like she was better than everyone. Get a clue. Way to make Rolling Stone slightly less badass. :P

Laura Jean | 2/22/2009, 7:51 pm EST

Taylor Rocks!!!!!!!

Guys,

Rolli ng Stone is for all music. And I know not many country gals have made the cover so KUDOS TO YOU Taylor!!!! She is amazing!!! I am not a Jonas Borther basher either but Joe you messed up, this girl should have been the one. What talent and beauty. You rule Taylor!!!!

gch | 2/22/2009, 8:28 pm EST

a major rock and roll honor to be on the cover of the rolling stone!

Kayla | 2/22/2009, 8:56 pm EST

I agree 100% with B Dylan123
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU ROLLING STONE?!

taylor swift doesn’t even write most of her songs.

Shann | 2/22/2009, 10:21 pm EST

RS, seriously? I thought having our failure of a president and his interview about farts in the oval office was enough. Now this? What happened! Nothing against Taylor Swift, but when did we switch from underground, brilliant creativity to placing tween pop princesses on a pedestal? I’m very dissapointed.

Shann | 2/22/2009, 10:25 pm EST

Oh God, please never, ever use Taylor Swift and The Beatles in the same sentence. There is no way it would be possible to ever compare them, specifically because The Beatles were epic.

Axl Rose | 2/22/2009, 10:41 pm EST

B Dylan, Rolling Stone lost “legitimacy” when it started putting politics on the cover

Kevin | 2/23/2009, 12:18 am EST

Bruce and U2 gets 5 stars? Come on – those are reserved for elite albums… Jonas Brothers gets 4 stars? Now Taylor Swift? I’ll actually be excited when my subscription expires… And at least Spin doesn’t try to kiss the elite ass like RS and report on complete nonsense as you are turning into…

Kevin | 2/23/2009, 12:46 am EST

Taylor Swift on the cover? Awful overrated reviews… aka U2 and Bruce… 4 stars for Jonas Brothers? Really? Your magazine has no focus or direction… when the renewals are low this year, don’t blame the economy… blame yourselves…

Anonymous | 2/23/2009, 12:58 am EST

I’m not a Taylor Swift fan. but she has every right to be on this front page. People who question the integrity of this magazine yet come back to make big deal of who should NOT be on the article should suck it.

and stop saying what Kurt Cobain would’ve done to Taylor when he was alive for fuck sake. Have some respect for him as you claim that you do. I have respect for Kurt Cobain so I’ll tell you this. If you want an article on Kurt Cobain, write your own god damn.

I did lose respect for RS for putting JBrothers on the cover though. They are bunch of corporate tools. I guess your magazine became part of it too.

Jimmy B | 2/23/2009, 1:04 am EST

poor kevin… all those little demos he made in his parents basement never got him anywhere :-(

too bad he’ll attack any talent that is better than he ever was at the first chance he gets

scott | 2/23/2009, 1:40 am EST

Acuelly Kayla she does write her own songs, how do you think she got famous!!! She won a contest for writing Tim McGraw, and the Beatles were epic like 50 years ago, this is 2009, the Beatles are dead.

Any7way | 2/23/2009, 5:22 am EST

Taylor Swift write ALL her songs!! On Fearless she wrote 8 all by herself, and she cowrote the other 5. She is also coprodusing her songs. Very tallented!!!! And spesial in every way. LOVE HER!

Sum1 2no | 2/23/2009, 9:33 am EST

That pic of her kinda remindz me of britt Spearz…
i bet she’z gonna b-come the next brit….

Oh Jeez…that kinda bad LMFJAO!!!

Remember when... | 2/23/2009, 10:55 am EST

RS was worth reading, and people like Hunter Thompson wrote articles for it?

Look at it now… it’s forums interjected with teenage girls squealing with delight about their latest manufactured star.

RS is dead. Those of us who have been following it for a long time know that. It should be allowed to die a quiet death, lest its dignity continue to wither.

Sigh | 2/23/2009, 10:57 am EST

“That pic of her kinda remindz me of britt Spearz…

This is the state of American English and the kind of person who enjoys Taylor Swift.

RS is dead.

Sum1 2no | 2/23/2009, 11:56 am EST

What im saying iz that her face should not be on RS. like Bon Jovi or motley crue or even twisted sister. i really don’t think she’z all that big. they should put someone on there more worthy and popular than her.

Taylor Swift is incredible. The article was a great read, instead of bitching about how she shouldn’t be on the cover, take some time and actually learn about who she is and what she does. I’m sure you will be impressed. I’m a 19 year old guy who listened to her songs cause I had a giant crush on her, but I genuinely love her voice and her songs.

Sum1 2no | 2/23/2009, 8:33 pm EST

Her music is for little girls who think they’re inlove with there 12 yo BF.
Wheres the real talent these days??
Not in country! that’s for sure…
Not in bloody disney graduates either!
Jobros, Cheetah girls, Miley, Hilary, that girl of phil of the future…
Genre = Pathetic!

she is AMAZING!!!! Definantly my hero and role model!!! I am happy for her!!! I bought the magazine :)

Marisa | 2/24/2009, 10:31 am EST

I am not necessarily a Taylor Swift fan, but I must say, the girl can write! For anyone who loves music they can really appreciate her style of writing. She isn’t that great of a singer, but her attitude and enthusiasm sure make up for it. I think she has every right to be on the cover of Rolling Stone!

hizzle | 2/24/2009, 11:24 am EST

Uhh im pretty sure britney spears has been on the cover more than once. I think taylor swift is 10x more talented than a dumb southern sleezy dancer.

what’s happening to the rolling stone ?

MN Luke | 2/24/2009, 5:45 pm EST

Thats it! I know magazines have to pay the bills, I know this monotone warbler is popular with 14 year olds. Whatever…fine! But C’mon! Argh… I have so many hateful things I want to say but know I shouldn’t. Why does this magazine consistently alert us on things that are either already very popular or classic rock guys who’ve already graced the cover 17 times!? Show us someone that we may not know but should. I’m sure she’s lovely -but putting her on the cover is beyond worthless. Might as well have put a Cadillac logo on her cheek and take the train completely off the rails.

Slash | 2/24/2009, 5:45 pm EST

She has no talent and should not be on the cover. RIP Rolling Stone.

This is really sad Rolling Stone, how could you put someone like this on your cover, I remember when rolling Stone used to be a legitimate music magazine, with real artists who write their own music, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU ROLLING STONE?, this is PATHETIC!!!

Hendrix 6758 | 2/24/2009, 7:48 pm EST

how could you rolling stone? Your magazine has lost all of its respectability, first the Jonas brothers, and now this on the cover. I used to read Rolling Stone for talented musicians who created their own music, now I have to look elsewhere. SHAME ON YOU ROLLING STONE!!

Vicky | 2/24/2009, 8:50 pm EST

“Congratulations Taylor”

Ella | 2/24/2009, 9:35 pm EST

Um…Taylor Swift on the cover?
Clearly, RS is looking for artists that will $ell a lot of magazines for its covers, not people who actually deserve to be on the cover. Okay, so Taylor’s a decent lyricist. That’s about it.

Anonymous | 2/24/2009, 9:52 pm EST

When her fans turn 13, they will realize her lack of talent. I LOVED the Backstreet Boys in their hay day. Then I turned 12. It’s just a vicious cycle.

lizzerd | 2/24/2009, 10:59 pm EST

i love her! i am so glad to see her down to earth honest reaction!

Oldtimer | 2/25/2009, 12:45 am EST

To those who always complain that Rolling Stone has “lost its edge” or “sold out” by putting teen stars on its cover, here’s a little historical context. From its earliest years, Rolling Stone has always followed current pop trends, even during what some think fondly of as its “golden years.” That’s always been its mission – smart coverage of popular culture. Here are some of the teen-pop acts that appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in its very first decade:
* 1971: Michael Jackson – 11-year-old pop star (in same issue: Hunter S. Thompson story)
* 1972: David Cassidy – TV teen idol (in same issue: William S. Burroughs)
* 1973 – Tatum O’Neal – child movie star and daughter of Ryan (in same issue: Norman Mailer)
* 1974: Tanya Tucker – 15-year-old country-pop star
* 1976: Donny Osmond

“…with real artists who write their own music…”

——————- —

Although I can appreciate your opinion, I do have to correct you on one point you made- TS does write all her own material.

Rolling Stone IMHO has not been a serious music mag for a LONG time. It’s the musical equivalent of People, which is not TS or The Jonas Brothers’ fault (did *I* just defend the Jonas Brothers?!?!?!). They are byproducts of what the industry has become- a money machine.

Anyone using gay as a pejorative should be tarred, feathered and forced to read rs comment posts for the rest of his or her life.

Taylor Swift | 2/25/2009, 6:05 pm EST

Wow my reaction says it all! =D

Shann | 2/25/2009, 7:13 pm EST

If you seriously think that The Beatles are dead, you should probably read more about them. 2009 or not they helped create rock’ n roll and had large contributions to music, as well as influencing our young culture as a whole in the 60’s and 70’s. If you really think anyone will remember Taylor Swift 40 years from now, there are no words that could help you.

MIG | 2/25/2009, 10:01 pm EST

A lot of young teenage girls will probably buy this magazine featuring their hero. Too bad they will also be subjected to the Calvin Klein smut submitted as an ad on page 3. Parents, and the moral majority should be offended.

Anonymous | 2/25/2009, 11:48 pm EST

Just because you don’t like Taylor Swift doesn’t mean you have to put her down. id like to see you go sing in front of fans and lets see how good you sound Taylor Swift is a wonderful singer and if you don’t like her thats your problem you don’t have to post it. no one need your negativity

Moral Majority? Who is that? What do morals have to do with anything? If you don’t like the ads, don’t by the magazine. It’s still a free country. You don’t have to read anything you find offensive, but don’t think that you can dictate what others like and want to read.

If Taylor Swift was on the cover naked it would have been worth it.
Taylor has marginal talents and her daddy had to buy her way into the music industry from what I understand.Does she deserve to be on the cover? maybe for being a hot piece of ass.

With the music industry dying, it needs artists like Taylor Swift. It is also good to see a muscian who is newsworthy for her music and not for being photographed sitting in a puddle of urine. Yeah, I talking to you Amy Winehouse.

Vince | 2/28/2009, 6:05 pm EST

Taylor sucks and cannot sing to save her life. She has yet to stay on key live. She is over-rated and over-hyped. She needs to go to pop and stay there as she is NOT country.

Vince | 2/28/2009, 6:07 pm EST

Carrie Underwood sings circles around this talentless wench. She should be on the cover, not Taylor-Can’tSing-Swift. She is the worst singer in any genre of music. Period. My ears hurt every time she takes the stage and destroys a song with her pitchy off key voice. Horrid.

Christina | 3/1/2009, 2:58 am EST

Okay, first off, Taylor is amazing and I’m SO happy she finally gets to be on the cover! I love her and she’s such a great role-model. No matter what anybody else says! I just got through reading the article, and I adore it. It’s one of my favorites! Aaah! Thank you for putting Taylor on the cover! She deserved it more than anybody.

First of all…to all the haters…if Taylor Swift didn’t have a good voice, she would’t sell so many albums..I am starting to think that all the negative comments came either from crackheads or plain stupid ppl…no offense..second, i have no idea why you ppl think that her fans are 12 year old teenagers..i am 21..i am not obsessed with Taylor, but i love her songs…so..if any of you haters will ever sell as many albums as she did, i would love to hear your comments. Until then, get a life! Oh and not to mention that most of the haters can barely write..go finish highschool, go to college..it MIGHT help!!:P BTW i don’t normally post comments, but this is really disturbing!!!
Taylor Swift has a great voice and wonderful songs! :)

Scootman | 3/26/2009, 5:56 pm EST

Ya know, I wish my Dad had bought a record company when I was her age, so he could pay for me to become rich and famous (like hers did). Of course, then again, I’m a guy, can sing on pitch without help from a computer, don’t look like a porn star, and wouldn’t claim to be a country artist ‘coz I couldn’t cut it in pop. I’d never make it in this environment. Word.

Michael Waring | 3/27/2009, 7:35 am EST

hank you Rolling Stone for acknowledging true talent in today’s youth pool! It is truly refreshing to know that your staff would put Taylor Swift on the cover…she is no longer just a country singer but a real music artist for all genres. She proves that you don’t have to be a prima-donna or have to behave badly and treat others like underlings not worthy of their time to become successful. Taylor has set a wonderful example with her attitude and inspired literally hundreds of thousands of young people to pick up an instrument and learn to play music. A person does not have to be perfect to be successful but should enjoy their chosen path in life~you cannot tell people how sincere you are~ if it comes from the heart fans just feel it.This is a lesson even an old dog like me has learned from this golden girl. I have grown up with Rolling Stone and hearing that my Influences are getting their third and forth wind is wonderful… to know that good music knows no boundaries with age and abilities is priceless! You ~ Rolling Stone ~ are and have always been my guide to new and old music now with Taylor on your cover you are the most savvy!

Taylor Swift Fan | 3/29/2009, 5:19 pm EST

I love Taylor!! Her music is great!!!

Fireface | 3/31/2009, 1:02 am EST

So her dad bought her a record company huh? Do you actually have any proof? Something in writing perhaps? Or is that just a rumor you heard? Glad to see you believe everything you hear. You’re smart.

So from what i can make out of all these comments is that she doesn’t deserve to be on the cover because she’s not a legend? She’s not “Epic” enough? Because 40 years from now people might not be listening to her music? Wow i never looked at it that way… So basically, if you’re not the best…than you’re the worst. If you’re not first…you’re last. It’s very clear to me that a lot of you don’t know the first thing about Taylor. And that it’s easier to hate her because she’s a young country-pop star than actually give her music a chance. Such narrow minded bigots. It’s pathetic (and hilarious) that some of you are going unsubscribe because Rolling Stone put her on the cover. Cry me a river. If you don’t like her than just don’t buy the magazine, and if you’re subscribed to it just don’t read it..throw it away or something. If you don’t like Taylor Swift then why are you even here watching a video of her? Just to remind us Taylor fans that we have bad taste in music? It amazes me how ignorant some of you people are. Whatever, Congratulations on the cover Taylor. You deserve it.

Go for the bucks all you producers, magazines, record labels, and whatever. If this is what you call music and continue to promote, you will go broke.Taykor Swift will be your downfall. Those teeny boppers will wake up sooner or later, then what will you do.RS is history.BIG MISTAKE!!!!!

abc | 6/15/2009, 8:09 am EST

I am from Reading PA and knew Taylor Swift’s family. She grew up on a small horse farm on Freemansville Road, not “Wyomissing, PA” like her bio insists. She moved to Wyomissing later on, right before she moved to Nashville. Trust me – there are NO horse farms in Wyomissing. It’s filled with big, expensive homes and mansions. Her house had an elevator in it, for christ’s sake. I’m sure they stated she lived in Wyomissing her whole life because it sounds more “country” (ala like “Wyoming”).

Taylor Swift has indeed always had a luxurious and wealthy lifestyle. Her dad made his millions off being a stockbroker in NYC. Got her some sleazy junior “record deal” with Sony by the time she was 12, even though she had minimal songwriting experience, if any. A few years later she was getting huge endorsements by Taylor Guitars and appearing in Abercrombie and Fitch ads, years before she even had a cd out (ahem, daddy’s money). Her dad also at this time got her involved in the Britney Spears talent agency. TRUST ME – SHE ONLY GOT ALL OF THIS BECAUSE HER FAMILY IS LOADED.

Ever wonder why she can’t sing for s— live? Here’s your answer. She attempted to get into acting before this too. Her family has sold her since the beginning. She also wasn’t country off the bat. She was attempting to do pop songs until it was recommended by a friend to go the country route. She is Avril Lavigne in country boots….a man made product of the music industry.

trobs | 6/28/2009, 5:40 pm EST

Let’s be serious and point out that although money can get you meetings and get peoples attention, it cannot convince people you have talent, nor can it convince the public, because really, what do we care if her dad was a millionaire from the beginning?

All the money in the world cannot convince record executives to roll the dice on the random daughter of a millionaire if she really had no talent.

There are plenty of wealthy individuals, especially the children of former celebrities who are convinced they can ride on their family name. IT DOESNT WORK. Taylor Swift is in the position she is because she is a gifted writer and vocalist, and most important she does not seems contrived. She seems genuinely kind and sweet, and on top of that her music is relatable and good.

Best of Luck.

Livi | 8/7/2009, 11:06 pm EST

I’d like to see Taylor Swift plug into a wall of marshall stacks, and ride the lightning. Oh, and as much as you resent grunge- you cannot deny the lasting and important impact of Kurt on todays music. Honestly, if it werent for him all music today would sound like Swift. -And if you think thats a good thing, I have too much faith in you.
