News Ticker: Kid Rock, New Supergroup Tinted Windows and Jimi Hendrix

  • Meet the Kid Rock stimulus package: the Michigan Brewing Company will produce a line of Kid Rock-branded beer, Detroit’s 7Action News reports, which is expected to create 700 new jobs in the state. The Rock N Roll Jesus singer is working close with the brewing company on the beverage, which is expected out this spring.

  • Really strange supergroup alert: The Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha, middle Hanson brother Taylor Hanson, 57-year-old Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos and Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger have joined forces to form Tinted Windows. According to Billboard.com, the band has already recorded their debut album, due out in the spring, and plan to play SXSW on March 20th.
  • The estate of Jimi Hendrix was awarded a $3.2 million judgment after suing Electric Hendrix Spirits for infringing on the guitar god’s trademark, says Blabbermouth. It was a pretty open-and-shut case, as Electric Hendrix Spirits used Jimi’s name, signature and likeness on a vodka bottle without permission. They even named their company Electric Hendrix Spirits without permission. A judge also demanded all distributors of the vodka pull it from the marketplace.

Taylor Hanson posted this on his blog today about Tinted Windows-

“Over the last couple years, Adam Schlesinger from fountains of Wayne and James Iha have been working on this project – We first met Adam years ago when we were making Middle Of Nowhere. So the deal is a band that I am mostly taking the vocals on, with James and Adam on bass and guitar, as well as the legendary drummer Bun E Carlos of cheap trick. All of us have just sort of made time for the creation of the album when we could over the last couple years, and now it is going to be coming out, with all the trimmings.

It is a fun thing that is musically different but i think (hope) you will dig. We will premier it at sxsw this year, and we will be telling you guys more about what will be happening with it as it rolls out.

For me and the other guys in the group this is a great project that is an addition to who we are in our core bands.”

I know the Cheap Trick-Smashing Pumpkins connection…but this is shocking!!! I’m really interested in what his will sound like.

I’m more interested in the Tinted Window project than Chickenfoot. I will say I sincerely hope Michael Anthony makes a profit from it. Screw Eddie!

I’m a huge power-pop fan so I’m definitely intrigued by Tinted Windows. Not quite sure how James Iha fits into this, but I love the sound of Hanson, Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne.
