Actually, when Green Day was introduced over the loudspeaker at the event, it noted that their next album is being called “21st Century Breakdown.” Yeah, technically the band didn’t bring it up, but it was mentioned during the broadcast.

Sounds like American Idiot Part II in terms of concept, but I am quite looking forward to it.

I’m a HUGE Green Day fan, and I’ve loved all their work, especially American Idiot, but this is starting to sound like American Idiot Part II to me… AI was a great and innovative album, but can’t they come up with something different five years later? I’m probably worrying to much. Even if it’s similar I’m sure it will be just as tuneful and thoughtful.

Also, Sum 41’s last album completely ripped off American Idiot on many of its songs, including one called “March of the Dogs.” Kind of ironic.

I freaking love Green Day. I can’t wait-well, scratch that, I obviously CAN wait for 21st Century Breakdown. I am just VERY anxious and excited to actually have new Green Day music grace my ears. and to see them again! I have been waiting for what seems like forever to see them live again!!!! I’m kind of going of my mind with anticipation for the new addition to GD’s music. I didn’t have to suffer this bittersweet wait when AI came out,since that’s around the time that I became a fan but I’m just freaking estatic that it’s coming out…in 3 months! Hopefully it’s closer to Mike’s b-day than mine though (mines at the end of the month.)
Everyone said that my love of GD would be a phase…and that was 4 years ago. I’ve never ceased loving or listening to Green Day since I “discovered” them. Most of the music that I like is because of Green Day. I love them and I always will.

Blink 182 has had some great music. I’m not going to say they haven’t. And different bands music touch people in different ways-but in MY opinion Blink has nothing on Green Day. I will love Green Day until the day I die-and I will listen to their music until then. Well, probably longer because I’m defintitely going to have a GD song played at my funeral. whereas Blink is a good band that I’ll turn up if I hear on the radio. I like them enough to be happy to hear they were apparently reuniting-but they could never top Green Day in my heart. And as for the worth of Green Day’s albums-every single album is great. I have and love every one. and I’m not overlooking any song on any album when I say that. I haven’t disliked ANY GD song no matter how many times I’ve heard it. I for one am not accepting it just because it’s Green Day. I’m accepting and loving it because whatever Green Day has come out with is worth listeing to. unlike most music now-a-days. Every album from 1039 smoothed out slappy hours to AI is fantastic in book-and my heart and my ears. and I have no doubt that 21st century Breakdown will be up to par with all their other music. because when GD does something, they give it their all. People are always a little bit biased about their favorite bands, but I mean every word.

I’ve always enjoyed Green Day for there story telling lyrics. Hope this is a continuation of American Idiot. Rock on GD!

Green Day was always to real Punk what Bon Jovi was to Heavy Metal. a convenient badge to wear until it becomes an albatross around the neck. I’m sure the band is smart enough to ditch the punk clothing when it isn’t working and hit up the Dixie Chicks for a duet.

But you can’t deny this; Billy Joe is a great songwriter. That not only transcends fashion but age and politics as well. I completely agree with 72. Every one of their albums was awesome, in its own way. I’d struggle to choose between Nimrod and Insomniac as to which is my favourite album, but the bottom line is I haven’t heard a single album by Green Day that I didn’t enjoy. I hope Breakdown is just as experimental as Warning and AI, but brings us a lot of new stuff too. It’ll probably one of their last albums, so I hope it lives up to its expectations. Which, with Butch Vig producing, are pretty high.

Must people keep condemning them for being successful? Warning and AI are both fantastic albums-and they had no idea whether either album would get them anywhere. And even though Warning was a great album-it didn’t. Because the popular “mainstream” music at the time was stupid Limp Biscut crap. At the time AI came out-artists were getting reamed and turned against just for speaking their thoughts. The reaction to AI could have been that way too. However, the way that they chose to make their statement, the great music that they conveyed it with and the fact that people were ready to hear it made people more willing to accept it. They took a chance and were rewarded for it. and I am not and have never been Emo. Get over yourself.

This better NOT be one of Green Day’s last albums. They aren’t even 40 yet! They better be playing as long as bands such as The Who (with less deaths) and Rolling Stones. They better be around until I’m gone-I plan to be an old grandma rocking out at a Green Day show in 30 years. Take my kids to their shows etc.
The fact that this is could be one of the last is inconceivable to me. In my mind, this is only the midway point. At least another 20 years. In the future the Greats will be Green Day and the Foo Fighters-just as The Who and Rolling Stones before them.

It’s interesting reading many of the negative comments that are posted not only here, but in many other blogs that talk about green day. I really don’t understand what they are mad about. The major negative issue people bring up is that they sold out. That comment has become so overused and means nothing anymore if we were to really examine what that means then everyone sells out. We all end up working for someone else and those who don’t and own their own business end up doing the impossible to be successful. Those who go to college do that in order to improve their lives and so on so in the end we all do some form of selling out. The reallity is that Green Day should be congratulated for their success. They have done some great things, they have been able to stick around for two decades now while still producing music that not only draws in new fans, but keeps a majority of the old ones. They managed to keep rock alive with AI because at that time the music that was commercially comming out was sub-par and it all sounded the same. After they presented AI then you began hearing others write about the problems america and the world were facing at the time. I agree with those who liked their old music it was great and those who say they cant go back to writting what they use to write because of their age. These are all true comments, but the reality is that they have kept some of their old style in their new stuff and just listen to their music and take look at their concerts. That is why this band can’t continue past their mid 40’s. They will either have to make a complete turn and turn into something like U2 or they will have to end it. In the end they have already done pretty well and they have earned a place in the mentionables of rock and music in general. I hope their upcoming ablum is a good one their will be stuff that might seem different and strange but, in the end that what music is and just like anything else it changes whether it be for good or bad it will be nice to hear whats next. Im reminded about what Lemmy from Motorhead said in and interview “all those who say they don’t want success in this business are full shit” Its true hell thats why anyone who picks up an instrument picks it up to have some form of success it might not always be monetary, but non the less they are searching for something in which they hope to find success. Hey and if you make millions out of it then your one of the lucky ones. So Lets Hear it Green Day “HOPE ITS A GREAT ONE”

I’m not the biggest American idiot fan, I respect them trying to take the band in a new direction to reflect them growing up, but they don’t have the same talent for politically charged songs as NoFx or Bad religion. Just because some people became Green Day fans after American Idiot doesn’t mean that they only know American Idiot or don’t like their other songs as much as “long-time” fans. They just hadn’t had the chance to it. It happened the other way around. It started with AI and then they “discovered” their other albums.
I, for one became a fan because of AI, not because I was too young (I am 35 now), but because it just happened that way (for several reasons, but mostly because I got bored of the music they started playing on the radio (especially rock – it was frustrating, whether they were too noisy or weren’t noisy enough to sound like I think rock rock should sound, and Green Day have the perfect balance for me).
As for their teenage fans, I think most of us start adquiring our musical taste in our early teens and as a rock fan I am glad they’re learning from them.

Like Green Day but I hope they dont do anymore politically charged songs. Not that I disagreed with them, I agreed with them, but I didn’t believe them if you know what I mean. American Idiot the song was a pop song disguised as a protest song, and Holiday was quite Laughable actually. I didn’t believe they felt that way, just wanted to make some money, it felt fake.. Aside from Rebel Girl and Whatsername the album sucked. Hopefully they get back in the Nimrod,Dookie mode and leave the protest singing to real protest singers like Bob Dylan.

I liked American Idiot a lot but I agree they should combine that with the Dookie feel. I think they can make some great punk music if they do so.

They just posted the lyrics for this album it’s pretty mediocre, I just don’t understand the whole opera theme it worked for AI but to milk the cow and do it all over again just seams pretty dull, what happen to integrity in the lyrics? When I saw someone in the comments comparing green day to the who I laughed it’s like comparing dog crap to apples . 21st century is the most pathetic attempt at a rock opera ever it can never compare to one of the who’s rock operas or pink floyds the wall . I still reckon their old stuff is better. They used to have a more natural feel.

I’ve just realised something: you can’t say an album isn’t Green Day if it’s written by Green Day. They are what they want to be. They could become a rave/techno band and they would still be Green Day. So this is Green Day, the same as Dookie or even Shenanagins, even if it does suck.

I was reading through the comments when I was shocked to find people insulting Blink 182. They were the reason I don’t listen to mainstream music. They had a sense of humour once. And to those people saying Green Day is the best band in the world, have you heard every single band out there? Because if you haven’t your point is invalid. Oh well, at least they don’t scream.

Albums pretty fucking rad. Green Days music just makes everything at peace for me and i can’t wait for you guys to go on tour with it!

there new album is awsome!! everyone says their old stuff is better, but in my oppinion the old stuff is ok. i mean a lot of it sounds the same, and has the same rythm. look i luv green day but this album has soul.
