RS Grammy Pool: Get Your Ballot and Place Your Bets

2/5/09, 6:06 pm EST

Lil Wayne, Coldplay and this year’s Grammy class will hit L.A.’s Staples Center on Sunday in hopes of trading in their nominations for some hardware. Sure, the stakes are high for them, but what’s in it for us? Let’s face it — an award show just isn’t the same unless there’s something riding on it. Not money, mind you (that would be wrong… very very wrong). Instead, we prefer to play for bragging rights.

So as the Grammy Awards draw near, we’re hunched over our ballots, each of us marking the predictions that we are sure will lead us to victory in the RS office Grammy pool. But this time, we thought we’d share. We’re posting our Grammy pool ballot here, complete with picks from our resident expert, Austin Scaggs. We focused on the top rock, pop, R&B and rap categories (sorry country fans). As you can see Austin’s calling a big night for Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, two wins for Kings of Leon and a major coming out party for Duffy. Other experts and artists have already made their Grammy predictions, but what about you? How many of his eight nominations can Lil Wayne really cash in? Will the night bring a gold rush for Coldplay? And more importantly, do you think you can beat Austin? (Grab your ballot here!)

Print out your ballot, make your picks and see if you can beat our man on the ground (or if you really want to put yourself out there, post your picks in the comments section). Check in all weekend long for our reports from inside all of this year’s Grammy events, and don’t miss our other essential Grammy coverage on our Grammy hub.

I feel a Coldplay clean-sweep for some reason. Have to admit “Viva La Vida” is a fantastic song.

Frank from MusicNerdClub.com | 2/5/2009, 10:26 pm EST

I’m betting Austin is right on Plant & Krauss for Album of the Year. The others will get their share, but not that one.

dude | 2/5/2009, 11:10 pm EST

Fuck Lil Wayne and Coldplay. Nothin but radio/mtv crap. it’s not art.

Johnny Cash Money | 2/6/2009, 1:12 am EST

Lil’ Wayne will take the cake with album/song, but after he’s hit his apex. Carter III redefined everything on the radio; but post-production, the rhymes, mixtapes, interviews, rock albums looks like a down hill snowball. It’s too bad Wayne’s eccentricities couldn’t have come out in an 808’s style release so that he can back to what he’s good at.

Anonymous | 2/6/2009, 11:10 am EST

Ah, The Scammys hype-machine
is working overtime, trying to
fix, the unfixable.
The Scammys will this year once-again do what they do best: Pander.
Thus, your “winner”? Lil Wayste,
because Bustin Timberfake isn’t “nominated”.

h_e_n_r_y | 2/6/2009, 2:46 pm EST

Jonathon | 2/7/2009, 2:40 am EST

Radiohead should be taking any award they’re nominated in this case

MMJ | 2/8/2009, 10:22 am EST

my morning jacket’s evil urges destroy’s radioheads in rainbows. I would really like for MMJ to win best alt album. However the grammys have turned into a joke so I dont take them seriously anymore.

Hate4MusicIndustry | 2/8/2009, 3:22 pm EST

The Grammys are just terrible. Really. I don’t even know why they deserve this type of coverage anymore. Most (not all) of the nominees are garbage and reflect nothing but the worst trends in the industry. Please stop writing about as if it actually matters. Thank god college radio still exists.

danielle | 2/8/2009, 6:11 pm EST

paul mccartney needs to win everything he is nominated for!!!!!

jayman | 2/8/2009, 9:13 pm EST

Colplay is the most over rated band on the planet. There music sounds like music from a cell phone commercial. I would rather listen to Taylor Swift try to keep her thin faltering vioce in tune.

Frank from MusicNerdClub.com | 2/9/2009, 12:08 am EST

Winning Grammy bets never felt so good. I’m getting my free filet mignon for Plant & Krauss winning Album of the Year as I predicted 2 months ago. Austin, enjoy your “bragging rights”!

mitchperkins | 2/9/2009, 8:15 am EST

I’m pretty sure that the musicians in the Staples audience were pretty blown away by the astounding performance of Radiohead. I watched in HD and was riveted. Transposing “15 Steps” for a live performance with the USC drums and horns was surprising, effective and certainly the highlight of the evening. On another note, I loved the Plant/Krause album… and while it certainly deserved notice, In Rainbows was clearly a masterpiece. I detect a predilection for Americana with Grammy voters and this brings their credibility into question.

wtf lil wayne | 9/29/2009, 2:53 am EST

lil wayne doesnt deserve any awards, he is a no talent fuck

-_-i am dissapoint | 9/29/2009, 3:08 am EST
