News of the death of punk-rock icon Lux Interior spread today, as fans paused to remember the wild frontman of psychobilly pioneers the Cramps. Interior (born Erick Lee Purkhiser) was an onstage force, strutting and provoking as his band’s horror-surf guitars reverberated behind him, and his groovy bark influenced legions of punks to come.

So what better way to celebrate the life of a legend lost too soon than with a playlist of the Cramps’ classic tracks? Click below to start listening to everything from “What’s Inside a Girl” to “The Creature From the Black Leather Lagoon.” And browse a collection of vintage photos of the band from their start in the 1970s to 2006, when the band continued to bust out old songs and newer material from 2003’s Fiends of Dope Island live:

Lux will be sorely missed…..Anyone who was lucky enough to see one of their over-the top, loud, in your face rubber writhing, stage rolling, microphone swallowing, tongue lapping exhibitionism MISSED IT!

I had never heard of them until the lead singer’s passing. I listened to some of their songs and fell in love!

There was no mention of Lux’s sudden death in either the Feb or March issues of Rolling Stone (or any other mainstream media). Thank you for posting the songs and 3 articles about The Cramps on-line.

The guy wasn’t right in the head and we frickin’ loved him for it.

The man was a genius, light years ahead of any other band I have seen, a true rock visionary. Perhaps the only other band I know of that has been equally as innovative is Kraftwerk. Was lucky enough to see them live in 2001. Rest in peace, Lux! Will keep on listening your records!
