In the new issue of Rolling Stone — on newsstands today — Brian Hiatt catches up with guitar hero Eddie Van Halen. The guitarist is having a busy year: he launched a new Website where fans can buy replicas of his gear (and tennis shoes), he’s getting married in June … and he’s already writing new Van Halen material. “I’ve got tons of music written, such a variety of stuff,” he tells us. “The essence of me is obviously there, and those drums, they’re always recognizable. But people expect a certain thing from Van Halen, and this isn’t exactly bang-your-head-against-the-wall stuff.” And yes, he plans to keep his reunion with David Lee Roth going. Last year’s Van Halen tour grossed $93 million, after all.

Ah yes, Edward is granting interviews now because he has something to sell. If it weren’t for his new line of overpriced guitars, he would still be holed up at 5150. As with anything Van Halen, I will believe it when I see it!

And please, I must ask this question. Are there people out there (besides high schoolers) who would actually wear the striped sneakers he will be peddling? I mean, wear them out in public??

I’m sure you know by now but Eddie fired him and replaced him with his kid Wolfie in 2006. They got Dave back in 2007. I saw the band twice and when I saw them w/ Dave, I just had this sad feeling that we were so close to having the origial line up back. I don’t like Wolfie’s presence.

I’m glad 2 c Diamond Dave with VAN HALEN. Everyone leave Wofie alone,he’s the only one that can get alone with Ed.

Great that ROTH & VAN HALEN is working out and that Eddie finally realized they can have FUN again…this is the ultimate configuration the band. NOTHING ELSE WILL DO!

Michael Anthony’s out gigging on cruise ships with that guy from all of the Guitar Center posters holding a surfboard like a guitar…ummmm…what’s his name? The guy who started turning Van Halen tunes into love songs. You know – the guy who took Van Halen from “Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love” to asking “How does it feel when it’s Love?”. That guy who made it possible for my grandparents to start liking Van Halen. Sham-Wow Haggard or something like that.

This line-up is great even without Anthony, although his backing vox were really great. I’m really looking forward to the new stuff!

And congrats to Eddie for the upcoming marriage and the new site!

Michael Anthony's Treatment | 2/5/2009, 8:52 am EST

First off: I am sooo happy that VH is back with Roth. Roth is a D–k as a person, but he is the best front man for VH (and I like Sammy, just not in VH). But
Eddie has been a total A-hole to Michael Anthony. The line-up is NOT complete without Michael and his backing vocals and tireless onstage energy. He has been a gentleman about the whole thing (even asking the fans to be nice to Wolfie). Michael should be invited back cause it will only be the original VH when he returns!

It will sound like 3/4 of Van Halen, without Michael Anthony’s background vocals. My first concert ever was VH in 82, something that i will never forget!

VAN HALEN IS DEAD! VAN HALEN SHOULD RETIRE, YEARS AGO, MY GOD, GARY CHERONE! HEY EDDIE AND DAVE, TAKE A LISTEN TO CHICKENFOOT. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TAKE THE EDDIE AND DAVE SHOW TO LAS VEGAS OR A LOUNGE CLOSE TO AN L.A.X.
