Ex-Guns n’ Roses Drummer Steven Adler Is Scaring the Crap Out of Us

1/26/09, 4:52 pm EST

Things were looking bleak for former Guns n’ Roses drummer Steven Adler when he was a patient on Dr. Drew’s VH1 reality-detox show Celebrity Rehab … and then we caught the first two episodes of its uber-depressing sequel, Sober House. The series, as the title suggests, is supposed to track addicts coping with the return to semi-independent living in a group home free of drugs and alcohol (but full of Andy Dick — how is that going to help?). So far the entire show has been devoted to watching the guy who played drums on Appetite for Destruction sink deeper and deeper into holy crap territory — he entered the house with needles and a package of heroin, left to sober up, and returned more FUBAR than ever.

Most recently Adler, “high as a kite” as house boss Jennifer Gimenez likes to say, starts violently railing about the cameras tracking his every move — and according to rehab specialist Bob, Steven has never met a camera he didn’t like. When the lights go out in a rolling California brownout, Adler smokes heroin in a bathroom and becomes so disoriented and wobbly he can’t even find his way back to his room (the concerned camera crew try to nudge him back towards the staircase, but he can’t follow hints, let alone keep his eyes open).

What’s worse? The fact that the Celebrity Rehab Website is advertising this calamity with cutesy copy befitting an especially outrageous episode of Full House (”Check out more of Steven’s out of control behavior from this week’s episode!” and “It’s only the first day and the Sober House staff already have their hands full!”). The look on Steven’s wife’s face says it all: this guy is in Intervention-worthy shape, not Rock of Love Bus condition. Trust us, we’d be far happier if Adler was trading germs with wasted Brazilian strippers in vinyl bikinis right about now.

this is just really sad.

A huge fan of Stevens | 1/26/2009, 6:41 pm EST

I have seen both episodes and I must say I’m extremly scared for Steven’s life. I’m scared to read that he will be found dead.I pray he makes it through. On the other side of this coin, I do believe all should see these two episodes. It shows the evil of what drugs do. We all hear about it, but to see it first hand, really puts it in perspective. Please get well Steven!

Kris | 1/26/2009, 7:22 pm EST

“Bob” from the show is Bob Forrest of LA band “Thelonious Monster”. You are a music magazine. You should dig into the “Monster” and Bob’s story. It is Shane McGowen’esqe, only with a happy ending.

Jeff | 1/26/2009, 8:42 pm EST

That was one of the most depressing things I’ve ever watched. And I first saw Steven Adler on Hard Copy in 1996 after he survived a stroke and heart attack. I was 12 when I watched that.

Shame on VH-1 and especially shame on Dr. Drew for exploiting such an obviously sick individual.

Would Rolling Stone care to interview Dr. Drew and have him address how he can sleep at night knowing he is profiting from displaying tragedies like this on public television?

Eugene | 1/26/2009, 9:49 pm EST

Dr. Drew never should have put Steven or Shifty in the sober house. They both needed to go back to rehab and it looks like they were both pushed into a less structured setting for the good of a TV show.

terry | 1/27/2009, 1:06 am EST

I watched the sober house along with America, I feel this is very important for us all to see how ‘drugs’ affect people, and ‘Is this attactive?’, hopefully this program will affect someone and save their life, when they see what can actually happen and what they really look like when they are ‘HI’,

Logan | 1/27/2009, 3:09 am EST

That was sad. Drugs and alcohol so so so easily obtainable in the music biz. I’ve worked in the biz for 20 years. I have curbed the drugs…I don’t do them anymore. Alcohol is another thing…I’m still trying to curb it. It’s sad to see such a talented and accomplished person struggling with his demons. I agree, with the other post’s… get well Steven. We are scared for you.

deedee sue | 1/27/2009, 4:37 am EST

i wanted to cry
steven is so cute when he’s not high

Another Steven Adler fan!!! | 1/27/2009, 5:44 am EST

I love Steven Adler and I am praying for him all the time. I agree that tv episode could be the best antidrug ad of all time for kids to see what heroin, in particular, will do to a person. He is so very ill. I have some extremely unsettled feelings about these shows. I am so concerned the best interests of the addicted are being overlooked in order to make ratings. I pray it isn’t so, but I am worried about some of things I am seeing. Dr. Drew, don’t forget these people are depending on you even as they mug for the cameras. You have to be the voice of reason here. Steven was so obviously headed for trouble at the end of his inpatient stay, if we could see it, why didn’t you?

aptyu | 1/27/2009, 11:19 am EST

Fuck Matt Sorum. Steven Is The Best Drummer That GNR Ever Had And Always Will He Should Be With Slash And Duff With Velvet Not Matt

BK | 1/27/2009, 11:19 am EST

I agree with Kris. Bob Forrest (Thelonius Monster, Bicycle Thief) is a legend in the Hollywood music scene and has helped many musicians (Anthony Kiedis, John Frusciante, etc.) with their drug problems and sobriety. He was once an addict himself. I would be interested in hearing his story and to see how he became sober.

I feel bad for Steven Adler. I think that the barbecue was a bad idea. The guests who showed up were obviously not concerned with the sobriety and well being of the addicts in the house.

Hang in there Stephen. Hopefully this relapse will give you some vision on what addiction really is. I hope that you rebound and realize that you need help. I know you can stop using if you really want to.

30 days of treatment followed up by living in a “sober house” where they let the participants go to night clubs and have barbeques with drug dealers is setting these addicts up to fail.

Judge | 1/27/2009, 1:49 pm EST

Steven who?? No time to waste over the pathetic show of former “celebrities” on rehab…what’s next?

sb99 | 1/27/2009, 2:39 pm EST

i think is sad the steven situation but its nobody fault but his own he needs more than a thirty day treatent before the sober house everyone in the house r former addicts trying to get better and he is not making it easier. that was not the first time he has done it he probably has been using befrore the house i think they should put his ass out if i was there it would be him or me cause he is messing with everyoune lives

joe bubz | 1/27/2009, 2:46 pm EST

As a 29 year old,rocker/ musician, Steve and Slash were 2 of the biggest role-models of my childhood and it’s killing me to see him like that. I wish I could punch him in the face like an older brother. The only problem is I’m only 29. He’s 40 I already addressed my own issues with the nasty smack. There are options now. He can do it. He keeps talking about a GNR reunion oblivious to the fact that he’ll never come close to one if he doesn’t get help. Try Suboxone or Subutex and love yourself a little bro. You are one of my heroes. You still are. I’m praying for you Steve. I know it’s hard. Keep trying.

“You used to love her,now it’s time to kill her”

John Sorkness | 1/27/2009, 3:45 pm EST

Huge Steven Adler fan. AppforDistruction is my favorite 80s record.I have a copy in my car, house, everywhere. Axl said in a interview that Steven couldnt leave his drugs. They gave him so many chances and he was given the opportunity of a life time. Get Sober and drum for the most explosive rock band since The Sex Pistols {GUNS n ROSES}or ??? Do what he has been doing since his last real gig with GnR which was Farm Aid. He has not done anything! Is he so far gone that Dr Drew cant save him? I would hate to see Steven Adler in prison, because if God doesnt intervene soon, Steven will be dead or in prison and hel wish he was dead. I prayed for Ozzie when I saw how bad he was and he got it together. We all should pray for Steven Adler and every other junkie.

labar | 1/27/2009, 3:45 pm EST

I TRULY WISH FOR STEVEN ADLER TO FIND THE GRACE WITHIN LOVING ONES SELF. MAYBE THEN HE WILL KNOW PEACE WITHIN. MY HEART BREAKS FOR HIS WIFE. IN MANY WAYS SHE HAS ALREADY LOST HIM AND IT MUST KILL HER TO WATCH HIM GO THROUGH THIS AND KNOWING THERE IS NOTHING SHE CAN DO TO STOP HIS SELF DESTRUCTION. I PRAY THAT SHE DOESN’T LOSE HIM PERMANENTLY. WE ALL HAVE OUR STORIES. I HOPE HIS HAS A HAPPY ENDING.

Danielle | 1/27/2009, 5:14 pm EST

I really hope Steven is doing better. I hate to see him like this it’s just not who he really is.

Beans | 1/27/2009, 5:41 pm EST

As bad as it sounds… Jail or death are the only things that will stop Steven and his abuse.

Henry | 1/27/2009, 5:45 pm EST

He’s just one of millions who struggle with addiction and he’s had better life experience with more opportunity than just about anyone. Nothing to feel sorry about. He does it because he wants to.

chefjoe7 | 1/27/2009, 9:18 pm EST

Maybe Steve hasn’t hit his personal”rock bottom”yet.Numerous detox visits and rehabs did nothing for me until I hit mine.Only then does one figure out one doesn’t want to live that life anymore. At least Steve has some educaton on the subject so when he is ready,he’ll know where to step.

Hey guys, comments are made more valid if they contain correct grammar and spelling. Steve, you go boy. Keep on riding that H train. Eventually you’ll figure out that you life life more than you like heroin.

Anonymous | 1/28/2009, 2:44 am EST

I really hope he gets the help he needs, these two episodes were just down right scary. I can’t even begin to imagine what he is going through since I have never gone through it myself but I have been on the family side of things…and it sucks! Please, get the help you need not only for yourself but for your family and friends.

billbo | 1/28/2009, 9:49 am EST

I have watched celeb rehab and I think it is a great show, in the fact it wakes up those interested in the life of a drug addict. Pretty eh?Why would anyone use heroin? Meth? cocaine? In these days everyone should know those drugs kill, sometimes it take a while but they always get their addict. I was a fan of adler and still am. But i lost respect for him after watching the needle and H episode on soberhouse. Adler needs to stop thinking about himself and start thinking about his wife, and real friends. He has had a life many dream about G-N-R, he let drugs destroy that. Get well or leave it all behind.

Dan In Texas | 1/28/2009, 1:00 pm EST

Steven, I have no idea what you are going through but I do know you are a very talented drummer and you seem like an all around neat guy WHEN YOU ARE NOT WHACKED OUT. I don’t know what it’s going to take but I hope you can get clean and stay clean. Start with your wife man, Of all the family members on the shows she is one of the few that really seemed to care. You have had a rough life at times and I hope you can turn the corner but you are going to have to stay away from many of the places and people that you know. Take care and know that you are still respected and you are not a bad guy but a guy with a problem we all hope you beat One Day At A Time. All the best. Dan

Annoyed | 1/28/2009, 2:57 pm EST

I have no sympathy for someone who having survived a heart attack and stroke from drug abuse continues to use.
I made my son watch it so that he will see and understand that even the person who seems to have it all lost everything due to drug abuse.

hellbound6@msn.com | 1/28/2009, 3:03 pm EST

steven it breaks my heart to see you like this. You have so much talent use it on your music not the freaking drugs.

It’s like watching a train wreck or a bad accident. You drive buy and you can’t help but need to look at it. Steven seems like an endearing gentle person that is being eating alive by drugs. STEVEN, I can think of a much better way to die. But most of all, a much better way to live. I’m praying that you’ll turn around.

Gunsfan | 1/28/2009, 7:06 pm EST

This almost makes me want to tear up, Adler is one of my hero’s as far as drummers are concerned, I cant believe they would even exploit him like this on television when the guy is literally on the brink of death from heroin abuse. Good luck to you Steven, people look up to you and even though you have a problem I’m sure you’ll get through it. Much love bro.

a 60's survivor | 1/28/2009, 7:09 pm EST

adler is a painful reminder of what a life of self indulgence and selfishness culminates in. someone in this “post-a-comment” forecasts a life ending in jail or death which is most likely true. adler is a pathetic adolescent eking out his final act in the raddled body of an old drug hag…but i must confess, mea culpa,i get the same guilty pleasure watching him as i would if i watched a particularly hideous train wreck….thank you dr. drew for this especially lurid entertainment.

Dragan | 1/28/2009, 8:15 pm EST

As a HUGE Guns N’ Roses fan, it sucks to see Steven”Popcorn” Adler like this. I hope he one day realizes how much talent he has before he is either dead or in jail.

mikehunt | 1/28/2009, 9:12 pm EST

Hey Steven,

Where can I get some of that shit you have?

Get better Steven | 1/28/2009, 9:34 pm EST

Anyone who says this is all his fault is an idiot. There are reasons people turn to drugs, Steven was kicked out of his house at age eleven for no reason, and his mom stole all his money later in his life. He has issues that lead him to drugs and causes him to keep using. It is not all his fault like a lot of you idiots have said. Yes he is a big time addict, but it is not all HIS fault, a huge drug addiction is not something you can just drop with the snap of your fingers. All of you who say otherwise probably have had no real world experience and live in your mother’s basement.

Ray | 1/28/2009, 9:51 pm EST

Oh please, I don’t doubt for a minute that Adler is screwed up, but how convenient that cameras just HAPPEN to be set up where he’s roaming. This is about as real as Survivor, which isn’t real at all. Reality televison has absolutely nothing to do with reality.

TIPSYMCSAGGER | 1/28/2009, 10:37 pm EST

I have already said I was married to someone addicted to Oxy – Steven? When will you realize how amazingly talented you are? PLEASE, find a way to stay out of H or any other drug classified as such. You have great pain, but you are bigger than life, and can be such an amazing musician. Please stop. Please find your center, whatever, whoever… You can do it. Good luck.

i am using heroin right now! steven, why are you using it? maybe we can meet up and smoke?

maxeythecat | 1/29/2009, 4:20 am EST

Holy Christ, what a pathetic attention seeking nimrod…..talk about Appetite for Destruction! I’ve seen some moronic losers in my day, but Adler certainly tops ‘em…when is this useless waste of space ever gonna figure out that HE’S the one who’s responsible for his own actions and should only point the finger at that gibbering, slackjawed visage staring back at him from a mirror,NOT his mommy…ferchrissake, we know she fucked you up, we know you still suck yer thumb like a two year old…fucking GET OVER YOURSELF!

JP | 1/29/2009, 11:02 am EST

When I watched this episode, I actually couldn’t believe it. I even thought for awhile it might have been staged, because who would let someone get that messed up on camera, or simply that messed up period.

I have seen some people messed up and I was no saint myself at one time. However, this had to be one of the most f@$#$% up I’ve seen someone in a long time, or ever even.

This guy has major problems and it’s kind of disgusting how Dr. Drew and VH1 use Adler’s weak condition for ratings and to churn money. However, I guess in some ways we’re all guilty…because I will watch the next episode (as I know many will) to see what happens…attentively.

Winnie | 1/29/2009, 12:02 pm EST

I hope he OD’s and we get to see it on TV. Fuck him, he is just another loser addict. I would just love to see him die on TV. Hopefully live and uncut! Get to it Steven.

Shanna | 1/29/2009, 3:13 pm EST

Winnie, your a douche… real people who are good people sometimes slip into an addiction that takes them to the brink of death. I know I for one have been there, there is hope to come back but its very unlikely and a very hard and painful process if you do succeed…shame on you for wishing death on someone going through an addiction like that.

I dont understand why more people arent questioning why this is acceptable tv “entertainment”… Steven needs to be in a hospital or someplace else to get clean and stay clean, not on tv making the ratings jump with his painful trainwreck moments.

Rosemary | 1/29/2009, 3:24 pm EST

What is wrong with Adler’s wife? Half the time she seems like she’s laughing. Does any of this register with here? She will never get to have a family and most likely will contract HIV or hepatitis from him. Is she condependent or stupid?

Lisa | 1/29/2009, 4:50 pm EST

i thought the same thing about his wife. she goes there and seems to be laughing about it, and doesnt care about his problem.

& winnie, thats JACKED UP! people develop problems or have mental issues because of shit filling their head. if you havent experienced it or known anyone like that, then you know room to talk shit about Steven!

I kicked dope in 1981, however, I started drinking a few years later and couldn’t stop until 2005. I really feel sorry for people who feel so high and mighty that they say things like “I hope he dies” I hope that those types don’t ever have to go through what Steven, I, and others go through on a daily basis basically because those type of folks are so full of ego that they most likely will not live through it.
I pray for steven and his family
along with the others in the house.
My love and respect always, Dave Green

Becoming a rock star is extremely difficult. So is overcoming heroin addiction. Hang in there Steven. You have proved that you can beat the odds. Lets see you do it again! Remember, the only kind of respect that matters is self-respect!

Jro | 1/30/2009, 5:09 am EST

Whether this was “staged” or not (which I don’t beleive it was) it was freakin scarey, but necessary. That episode should be saved and shown in schools or to every kid or person out there who’s even THINKING of touching a drug…Take it and use it for something postive, to get and keep people off of drugs… Talked about scared straight!!!

LA DUDE | 1/30/2009, 6:29 am EST

I worked on the show. Everything you are seeing is real, RAY. The cameras didn’t just “happen” to be there. They are always there, 24/7. Steven snuck drugs into the house and really did get that wasted. I can’t give info on his future, watch the show, but when not fucked up Steven is a very generous and good natured guy. I was rooting for him.

steven from tennessee | 1/30/2009, 2:29 pm EST

stven i just want you to know man that it is your life nobody els’es but it does hurt them to. you got a lot of support from your loved ones and fans. your one of the greatest drumers thats been in a band. not just any band but GUNS N ROSES. I think of others users that has beat the addiction like Johnny Cash, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry. They done it an man I know you can. Trust in your self others like me do. thanks for all the great years. I hope there will be a lot more great years still to come. Dont listen to all the crap others tell you.anything is possible….

Heather | 1/30/2009, 4:27 pm EST

I agree with steven from tennessee. Personally I say fuck all the people that only have shit to say. I would speak my mind right now but I dunno how to sum what I have to say into words. I really hope you beat the addiction and realize you’re better than that. Stay positive. I have all hope in you.

Too sad.

To all you that have negative comments or think it is cool what Steven did can kiss my ass. This guy accomplished more in one year that what most of you losers have done your whole life and the only way he is going to get through this is with the rite kind of support. Heroin is a nasty habit to kick and sometimes there is know stopping and the only way to stop is to die. That is the last thing I would ever want to see a guy like him do.

JAM | 1/30/2009, 9:15 pm EST

This show is so irresponsible. 3 weeks of inpatient treatment followed by a sober living house where on the 1st day YOU get to make the decision to go to a nightclub? I am so disappointed in Dr. Drew. I am a recovering alcoholic who works with addicts/treatment agencies and sober living houses on a daily basis. This show, in terms of recovery, is not the real world nor should it be. Do these addicts go to meetings? I hear no AA/NA fellowship at all other than the AM Just for Today reading. After 3 weeks of treatment, transitional housing should still be making decisions such as “no, You cannot go to a nightclub”. Did anyone tell them to speak to their sponsor. This show is just awful and Dr. Drew and VH1 should be ashamed.

If you’re going to be an addict, be an addict. If you’re going to quit, quit. But, doing both, repeatedly, will get you killed. I don’t know if Steven is ready to make a choice. But it looks like, sooner than later, one will be made for him.
Best of luck Steve, Get well and stay well. Dan

I think he needs to shoot up right on camera, and let us watch him tweak to the point of no return. His revenge for being on this lame motherfucking show. Hell, tie down Dr. Drew, and give him a bump as well…

maxeythecat maybe you shouldn’t say shit anymore, freedom of speech only applies to people that know something about anything. A heroin habit is THE toughest thing anyone could ever have to do. I kicked it a couple years back and to this day I think about using everyday even after I lost my wife and house because of it. Its not willpower is a disease. You wouldnt be sitting here talking shit about a tuberculosis patient for coughing so why the fuck would you talk shit about an addict portraying symptems of addiction. And no there is no difference between the two, anyone who says otherwise has NO idea what they are talking about. Any person who says a person who cant kick a dope habit is just weak minded should be put in Haiti with the rest of the stupidest people on earth. Work the program steven I know you know what it is. It works if you work it.

someone who cares | 1/31/2009, 7:49 pm EST

Steven,
clear your mind of all the negativity around you… just remember their are alot of idiots out their who do like to see others fail..just surround yourself with good people and stay humble and real..all will work out .i send this message with positive energy…namaste someone who cares in canada

Ridiculous | 1/31/2009, 7:49 pm EST

I get so tired of him going on about how the other guys took everything away from him — he did that all on his own IMO. Yes he has a disease, but he needs to get wake up and realize that the old GN’R are probably never going to reform, and move on. From what Axl said in December in that online post — he doesn’t plan on appearing at their RRHOF induction in the upcoming years, so if that isn’t going to happen, I doubt the old band is going to reform. Also if I was Jennifer the house manager, I would say “your damn right I’m a bitch Steven — get over it. I’m responsible for these people’s and your’s safety. You don’t like leave — get screwed on your own time.” Sorry if that is too mean but I’m over this BS. Peace.

What he needs | 1/31/2009, 8:02 pm EST

Put him on Suboxone or Bupernex and he can shoot all day and nothing will happen. If you want to kick this is the only thing that will help.

Erin | 1/31/2009, 8:38 pm EST

I feel real bad for Steven, but if Axl Rose tells you, you have a problem- then you must seriously have a problem considering Axl’s the one who told you so.

I hope he gets his life situated and he stops his drug use, and I really don’t think that either TV show is helping his problem out at all. If anything- it might even be worsening it.

Another prime example of why America is a such a stinking cesspool of idiocy,& is infecting other countries with the same mind numbing bullshit..ANYBODY claiming to be a true GUNS”N”ROSES fan(new or old) would & should refuse to watch trash like this. How the hell does this HELP Steve Adler get over his addiction ???????????? What,by putting him in a public forum where everybody can point, laugh, make fun of the druggie so they can feel good that their not like that…What is it with America & this public confession/masochistic/self degrading I wont get better unless I humiliate myself on national television attitude….Watching someone slowly fuck up & destroy themselves on tv is not entertainment, its mass consensual approval of his demise & people obviously would rather watch that then offer any REAL HELP…Maybe if your all lucky he might overdose LIVE so you can watch him die,or walk in front of a truck,or have a psychotic reaction,I’m sure the camera follows ever move he makes. That would be so cool for the ratings & the networks market share wouldn’t it…?????
Any REAL FRIEND of this man would get him the hell away from everybody & everything that affects him & take him somewhere where he can truely get it together,
like ‘The Buttery’ in northern NSW Australia,it saved the life of Rick Grossman from the Divinyls & probably a hell of a lot of people….Yes I know people have to help themselves & be responsible for their own actions, but he is obviously in a seriously bad way & needs someone who can help find THE CAUSE,& REASON of his addiction & offer REAL SOLUTIONS…AND dont wait for God to step in & fix the situation,he’s doing a dandy job isn’t he…?????? …Remember this man is a talented musician who once was a member of one of the biggest & best bands in the world, who would really throw that away for no reason…??????????
All the people involved in making this piece of crap should hang their heads in shame & be put before the judicial system for abuse, for the exploitive & embarrassing situation they are putting these people in…OH sorry I forgot theres $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to be made from this, lest anyone upset the amazing capitalistic applecart…
Remember the old saying,IF your not part of the SOLUTION,your part of the PROBLEM….Its time tv was cleansed of this offal, vote with your remote, shut it down…..
Steven here’s hoping you have some REAL FRIENDS in America that will do the right thing for & by you,it would be great to see you behind a drumkit again kickin arse….

Ace | 2/1/2009, 4:52 am EST

You people really want to help Steven as well as thousands of other addicts? Start writing your congressmen and senators to stop giving jail time for drug offenders and use some of that “War ON Drugs” money to open better drug treatment facilities. If they wont listen then elect somebody who will. This is how laws get passed and lives are saved. Don’t wait until its your son or daughter. At least express your feelings to someone who might give a shit!

Steve | 2/1/2009, 2:03 pm EST

First off, drug addiction shouldn’t be considered a disease seeing to how it’s SELF DOING. It’s not like cancer, tuberculosis, polio,MS,A lzheimers. Those are DISEASES. Just because I like food and am big , does that mean I have a disease and people should feel sorry for me? NO!
2nd, Why should a person who is in possession or takeing an illegal drug or etc. not be arrested and suffer consiquenses? I got arrested for DUI. Was I pissed? yes. but not at society. what if I had hurt or killed someone? If you CHOOSE to do this stuff then be willing to accept the consiquences. In simple…… DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jesse | 2/1/2009, 5:24 pm EST

Steven, Bless you! Your mother should take full responsibility for any and all you downfalls!!!
Unbelieveable that she throw you out of the house at 11.She should be ashamed of herself!!!!!!!
God bless you Steven, you wont see her in heaven!

Kaila.xoxo | 2/1/2009, 9:36 pm EST

steven im a huge fan of yours, your my hero.
ive been through a lot shit too, and i hope you can overcome your problems, your gorgeous and the sweetest guy when your not on heroin. i hope you get well, i know it’s hard but you can do it. its so sad to see you like this

Bill | 2/1/2009, 11:29 pm EST

I watch celeb rehab and sober house. It reminds me,why I never tried heroin, glad I never did.
Adler had it all, and the drugs took it away. Sad? Yes, that he couldn’t see the light before he lost it all, including a good portion of his sanity. If programs like these, can show young people why they don’t want to use heroin, cocaine, meth,X and excessive amounts of alcohol then it is good.If Adler dies from heroin, he takes with him, all the people that love and care for him.
Selfish choice to make. lets hope he and all the other junkies can kick the habit before it kicks them.

Dave | 2/2/2009, 8:34 am EST

After watching the show steve needs help in a bad way. It might be funny to some people but lets hope he can get back to how he used to be. Once certain drugs get a hold of you they take control of you and its dangerous.

Angel | 2/2/2009, 10:57 am EST

Steven,s MOTHER is to blame for his
problems!!! She kicked a child of 11 out on the streets for “not listening to her, and breaking some rules”! She should be horse-whipped for what she did!!! That is criminal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

argentina | 2/2/2009, 9:52 pm EST

axl has to help him he is the only one who knows how to do it and he knows what im talking about thanks…

Karin | 2/3/2009, 10:39 am EST

Steven Adler is a very sick man. I watched him on “Rehab” and “Sober House”. I am really routing for him though. HE really seems to want to get well, but can’t. I know from experience that it isn’t an easy thing to overcome. My prayers are with Steven and everyone at Sober House.

krista | 2/3/2009, 12:11 pm EST

JAIL IS BULLSHIT for someone who is strung tha fuck out.calling the cops on steven may have been an option ,but i assure you it wasnt the only one.as a recovering herion addict i wish him the best of luck b/c its a hard road ,but it can be overcome!

krista | 2/3/2009, 12:23 pm EST

MOTHERFUCKER!!!I WISH THE BEST FOR EVERYONE & IN SOBER HOUSE ,BUT MY MAIN PRAYERS ARE GOING 2 PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO EMOTION FOR SOMEONE WHO IS SUFFERING & TELL THEM 2 DIE,GROW UP,ECT..YOU HAVE 2 UNDERSTAND EVERYONE HAS PROBLEMS & DEAL W/THEM IN THEIR OWN WAY IN THEIR OWN TIME.MAYBE IMMATURE COMMENTS ARE BETTER KEPT 2 URSELF & NOT DISPLAYED ACROSS THE INTERNET.**I HOPE HE REACHES THE POINT WHERE HE SAYS “I CANT DO THIS ANYMORE” & LIVES 2 HELP OTHER ADDICTS IN SEARCH OF HOPE/RECOVERY**

the watcher | 2/3/2009, 12:42 pm EST

I cannot believe how invested I
became in watching sober house.
I hate the fact that I care about
someone I have never met. STEVEN
ADLER I have a 7 year old son that
wants to be a drummer just like you
what am I suppose to say to him about you.

Cami | 2/4/2009, 1:33 am EST

My heart goes out to mr. Adler because I have a father with mental illness and substance dependencies. When I see steven I see my father and I just want to help them both and want for them to enjoy life again. I believe that any peace of mind I can offer them it is only right that I share. Remember draw close to god and he will draw close to you. Read his word daily to give you the tools to get through. Go to him in prayer, throw your burdens on him. Remember that he (god) is hurt when we go through trials and suffer because of satan and his demons. I hope this info reaches you and I will pray that you get in touch with the creator and that you let his holy spirit reach your heart and work through you. I will pray for you and your family that reach a full recovery.
Love Cami

RS/ATX | 2/4/2009, 4:52 pm EST

Mr Adler Godspeed to you. Thats all I can say.

much love & respect,

RS

My michelle | 2/5/2009, 1:46 am EST

I love you steven. You are a GREAT rock and roller. Please get clean! I am 34 days clean from methadone. I’ve used for 16 years. It IS possible. Show America you can do it. Maybe go far away where H and other drugs are not accessible. It is extremely difficult otherwise. We love you. You are adorable!

cathryn | 2/5/2009, 1:18 pm EST

I read one of the comments above and I believe that if Steven wants to live and carry on with being a drummer he needs to be far away from everone and everthing, lock him up for a year or so, put him on an island where he can’t get ahold of the junk, my heart goes out to his wife, she continues to hang in there for this man and I believe if she wasen’t a part of his life he wouldn’t be here. Maybe if Slash hasen’t already tried to help his friend it might be a good time to start now. I know you can’t get help if you don’t want it but then maybe it’s time to take it out of this mans hands and do something drastic for him. One last comment Steven needs to consider what this might do to his wife if he was to die, don’t be greedy with your life.

Just Say No...to Adler that is | 2/5/2009, 6:14 pm EST

Everyone keeps feeling sorry for this guy, wah wah wah, but it is okay for him to hit, disrespect and only God knows what else he has done to those around him and in that “Sober House”. He knows what must be done to get clean. I mean he has done this too many times before. He has got to WANT to STAY clean. He can give as many “I’m sorry” rants as he wants, but it means jack squat if you don’t follow through with it. Now, as for the house, anyone with half a brain knows that Steven needs a more rigid system for getting through this. Not a sober house, more like a hospital with services for detox and medical challenges(due to his numerous strokes). Sober house is not for him. He needs a hospital and he should have been sent to one when he showed up to a “SOBER HOUSE” with drugs and a lame excuse for having them. Dr. Drew dropped the ball on this one. He needs help, not pity people. geez, I guess I am over seeing the pity party….

My Michelle | 2/6/2009, 9:29 am EST

Obviously, some of the people giving opinions and advice have never been a victim of substance abuse. Locking Steven up will not help him. He has to do this for himself. He has to want a clean life more than anything. And yes, he deserves support and pity. He has a demon inside, larger than life. It is possible to kick that demon. I hope and pray that Steven does. He is really a sweet person.

Jay in Texas | 2/6/2009, 12:11 pm EST

I hope Steven KICKS THIS THINGS ASS. If he approachs this in the same balls out way he did his music theres no way he can lose. people all across this nation are pulling for him. Steven give us more years to watch you beat the hell out of those drums, KICK THIS THINGS ASS!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Drumteacher43 | 2/7/2009, 8:51 am EST

Someone asked in this comment section “What Happened to Steven’s face and speech?” The answer is; He had a stroke and half his face is paralized and has trouble speaking as well..He overdosed A speedball (HEroin and Coke) That would be enough Reason to quit If I was was Steve…DT43

W.AXL.ROSE | 2/7/2009, 10:58 am EST

oh my god

Smurfette | 2/7/2009, 2:00 pm EST

I feel for the guy, he is so messed up, I hope to God he doesn’t OD, but I think he will. He won’t get clean until he really wants to quit, deep down he likes getting high, and he has to make the desicion himself or it will never work. I myself have been an addict and I know if someone gave me some shit I would take it, because I like it too much. He had a stroke for God sake, if that doesn’t make you quit, what will. He can be a really sweet guy, but when he’s high he is completely different. Does someone who wants to get clean bring needles to a sober house? hello! no way. And his wife needs to support him a little more, she thinks it’s funny, get some guts and support him!

CARE | 2/8/2009, 6:27 pm EST

I want to know why Slash and Axl and any other friends may be ???
If they cant step up and show Steven that they care even just a little bit , then I dont even want to listen to one more song by GNR…Bastards…
Why does his wife always seem to have a smile on her face, can’t she show a little more concern as well.

Steven fan | 2/9/2009, 3:21 am EST

I feel compelled to write a comment on this subject after watching dr drew sober living tonight. Don’t ever judge Steven unless you’ve walked in his shoes. Being an addict. I saw myself in that episode. I snuck drugs into a detox centre never mind a halfway house. I had flowers delivered to the hospital in flowers. I’ve even had dope on me in jail. You will never fully understand addiction unless you’ve been there. I was an honour roll student with a 90 percent average in first year sciences. I never wanted to be sticking needles in my arms, working for crack. I would never wish the punishment of addiction wished upon my worst enemy. It’s a life struggle. Today is my first day clean andvi thank Steven for that episode, but have no respect for dr drew. If you truly know addiction you would know he wasn’t ready and exploit him like that. Hang in there and fight those demons. I know I will.

Steven fan | 2/9/2009, 3:28 am EST

Sorry just proff read my post. Meant to say I had herion sent to the hospital in flowers. I should say I had someone purchase them and send them up. Not feeling so good but hanging in there. Fr dumb ass

rubber necker | 2/9/2009, 5:03 pm EST

This is like watching a train wreck- guilty, and wrong on so many levels, but now I want to watch in the hope that they all clean up… Hard to watch friends and family go through this, now I am invested in watching total strangers. Sad that this show will put even more pressure on him. Not a good environment for someone trying to get and stay clean.

paquette6868 | 2/10/2009, 2:37 am EST

what about the guy or girl on the corner doing the same shit do you all feel sorry for that person live by sword die by the sword

Spoiledpage | 2/13/2009, 10:22 am EST

Its to bad that he relapsed but… He was NOT ready and YES I AGREE that his mother plays a HUGH part in his addiction. He needs to get counsiling on how to deal with what had happened and possably cut all ties with that woman in order to fully start the recovery process. Everyone deals with their life problem diffrently and his is drugs and yes he did have a stroke but that is not enough!! Have Faith Steve and really concentrate on the healing process with in and get better for yorself and no one else. Then you can Live!!

Tattooed Jack | 2/13/2009, 10:44 am EST

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the absurdity of this shit? Sure, Steven was great in his day and it’s real depressing to see him spiral out of control. But in my opinion the real issue here is that media, fans, family, friends, and all the rest enable this poor excuse for a man by televising his downfalls and making a spectacle of addicts in general. The guy was a fucking role model for people in the 80’s and 90’s. Doesn’t matter what his PERSONAL demons might be…. They’re his to deal with. And just like guns, drugs don’t do bad things. People ON drugs do bad things. I smoke a pack a day, does it give me the right to make my problem a circus act for all to see? No. It give ME the responsibility to get help on my own for myself. Not for rating, or money, or fame. Yeah Steve’s got it rough. BooHoo. Get a life off of VH1 and let us get back to watching something more entertaining. I’m kinda missin Brit and her antics now……..

Spoiledpage | 2/13/2009, 12:24 pm EST

Kind of harsh aren’t ya!! Once you’re in the public eye you stay in the public eye and all the dirty laundry is going with it. He chose to be on a show that releases his dirty laundry to the world. Could be a good thing but also a bad. They chose this lifestyle and they want it to be better weather or not in the public eye. Some will be successful other wont be s=due to not being ready and need more time. He needs more time!! IF you can’t handle what you read then get out!!

Dirty Duck | 2/18/2009, 3:17 pm EST

The media sucks…..period!
All these lame ass reality shows…man….I was a child of the 80’s. I grew up with some GREAT TV shows. WTF happend!? I dont give a shit about any celeberty or rock star on drugs or recovering. A lot of these people had a chance of a lifetime which many will never have…and I’m supposed to tune in every week to watch this shit? No thanks. You can keep your pathetic reality tv shows and shit magazines like rolling stone (your mag hasnt been cool in over 2 decades)US…etc!
This is the world we live in…where showing how fucked up u are makes for family viewing. Not for me….
It’s a shame that steven is going through a tough time…but isnt he also like close to 50 years old?
Get your shit together dude…

samantha | 3/10/2009, 3:44 am EST

try going through half the shit steven has gone through. imagine the band that you helped form catch you when your at your worst and sign away all your rights to everything that is in the future played by radio stations with albums and dozens of songs he is on and has no more royalties to. that’s fucked up shit and those band members were supposed to be his best friends. he had a dream, conquered it, the rock and roll got the best of him when the band was at its height, but instead of helping their friend they say f*** you and tell him to leave the band. sellfish as* HO****!!! everything you worked so damn hard for and ever dreamed of just stripped and taken from you like that in a snap. people need to focus and let steven know that he can still succeed and be a tight ass drummer sober because he has TALENT! he has the musicians ear, and that will stay with him forever. steven gets better throughout the episodes, but understand he is trying to stop from about a decade of abuse. be positive and support him and his sobriety. HE CAN DO IT!!!!

Don’t blame the band. From what I understand, they tried heaps to get him into rehab and each time he kept escaping until eventually they had no choice but to fire him because he just wouldn’t clean up.

That being said, I feel awful for this guy. I hope he manages to get it together, this was really depressing stuff.

RussJFK | 3/13/2009, 12:24 pm EST

Steven Adler, great see’ing you again on Dr. Drew’s Sober House on VH-1.
You called it man, “if you want to get sober, have someone film you while you ARE drunk or high and then watch that video of yourself when you ARE sober, the next day. That will show you what you really look and act like while partying. It helps!!

Tandra | 3/14/2009, 4:42 pm EST

Steven is the ONLY drummer for GNR!! My heart breaks for him and his family. He’s been through hell due to his addiction. I only have the best wishes for him. I’ve been a fan of GNR since day one!! I’ve watched this man rock his ass off for years and he deserves only the best. When he smiles it literally lights him up!! The smile really shows the real Steven, I think. So GOOD LUCK STEVEN!!! I love you and thanks for all the years of awesome rock n roll!!

Man, it breaks my heart to see Steven deteriorate on Sober House. I never really knew much about the guy before…but seeing him (sober) interacting with the other members I found myself rooting like crazy for him to make it. I believe God gives something special to all addicts because he takes so much away from them in other way.
I’m on Steven’s side and I sure hope he eventually makes it.

I watched Celeb rehab and sober house every episode. My favorite TV show. Do I feel sorry for Steven Adler? Not any more. I did, and yes, I wish him well, and hope he can kick the addiction, but lets face it. He took the drugs, as I’m sure all the GNR boyz did. He screwed up.,Please.. several heart attacks. and how many OD’s…WTF all this, before he reached 30. He is on a national TV show, and getting paid to be there. He likes the attention, back on stage, with a bigger audience than any Adlers appetite show, could deliver. Look at the drama between say Rodney King, who followed the program, kept his focus on rehab, and most likely will make something of his life, enough that DR Drew and crew cleaned up that dump he lived in, for a sober house, King plans on running. Smart guy, he will stay sober, a lot easier by helping others with their addictions, than going back to that mess he lived in, and the bottle again. Perhaps even become “housemom” for other celeb rehabbers, in future episodes. Adler will continue to do heavy drugs, until it kills him, or he gets so low he quits cause he really wants to.I have used all kinds of drugs, and I never got addicted to any of them.
i Don’t drink, use any heavy drugs what so ever, including pharma drugs. My family has a history of addiction and I grew up with my mother chemically addicted. I had no interest following in her addicted footsteps. This was doctor sponsored addiction.

When he finally says enough change will happen, until that, he is living on extreme borrowed time.

I met Steve at the HardRock Seminole in Fort Lauderdale during the Denis Leary show. I have to say, he is a gracious and adorable human being. I talked with him for about 5 or 10 min (while he downed three shots) but he was very gracious and sweet and I was glad to have met him. I wish him the best and I hope he can recover from his addiction.

Craig | 5/29/2009, 1:05 am EST

I met Steve last night at a drum clinic here in Brisbane Australia. He was lucid, very opn in his thoughts, and most importantly drummed his ass off!! he was very gracious and couteous to all who attended and I hope he continues to do well.

Shanny | 6/18/2009, 11:17 am EST

Sorry – Steve Adler is a loser. Anyone that supports and encourages this type of crap is crazy. So what – the guy plays drums – big deal. He is a selfish arsehole. His poor wife. Funny – everyone feels sorry for the weak arsed heroin addict – and not for the wife – or siblings or friends! Wake up people – this guy is a dead shit loser and causes misery and stress to all those around him. Drug addicts are not to be admired, and I do drugs in recreation – but it’s weakness of character to become like Adler. If I read tomorrow he’s dead of drug overdose – it will be a shrug – and get on with my day! We control our lives – we self destruct – then we self destruct. What a waste of a life.

I will pray for you, just like I pray for Steven (at least he has a kind soul, unlike you). He is lost and hopefully will find his way before it’s too late. Good Luck, Steven. Get Well!!!!!!!

I am not famous, but I managed to get and stay clean. I am not as much of a selfish quitter and was able to hang tuff. He is the kind of week punk that will always do things his way and will keep getting the same results. Not everyone is willing to go through the go through. There are winners and losers. It is time every stopped babying this spoiled ex-talent. Unless he gets free of his Hugh Ego and self centered control and becomes willing to do what it takes, he is going to die a loser. They will say that he was constitutionally incapable, but I will say he was a punk — quitter, with too much brain damage.

Im just worried that Steven is going to get real sick from inhaling the fumes from the tinfoil he smokes thru. Its got some bad chemicals in it and shouldnt be used as a smoking apparatus. Steven is a very good looking guy and im just worried his looks will deteriorate from inhaling the chemicals that tinfoil posses.
